Resumen
Abstract Historians have shown that fish culturists and anglers enjoyed a mutually beneficial relationship in 19th century North America. Sharing interests in producing and protecting fish for recreation, the two groups supported emerging regimes of fisheries administration and fish culture that privileged angling and game fish species. In Ontario, it has been argued that anglers achieved control of inland fisheries with help from state fish culturist Samuel Wilmot who, as a sportsman, shared anglers' recreational perspective. A closer look at Wilmot and fish culture in late 19th century Ontario, however, reveals a more complex struggle over recreational fisheries administration. I show that game fish culture under Wilmot was subordinated to fish culture programs that supported the Great Lakes commercial fisheries. Indeed, Wilmot resisted anglers' refraining of Ontario's fisheries as a private recreational resource. By the 1890s, however, this position was unpopular with Ontario's anglers and government officials, who demanded greater provincial control over recreational fisheries and fish culture. It was only after Wilmot's retirement in 1895 that game fish culture received higher priority in Ontario with both federal and provincial governments engaging in programs of wild bass transfers. In 1899, Ontario won a share of fisheries jurisdiction and established its first provincial fisheries administration, which laid the basis for more comprehensive programs of game fish culture in the 20th century.

Resumen
Tilapia is one of the most important cultured fish in the world. However, the gap between seed supplies and farmers' demand is one of the serious limitations for tilapia culturists. Notice about different effective agents on tilapia reproduction might be useful for increasing of production and better management of tilapia hatcheries. In the present study, higher efficiency of tilapia Oreochromis niloticus hatchery was considered based on the impact of sex ratio, stocking density, photoperiod, water salinity and replacement period on spawning performance. Sex ratios 1:1, 1:4 and 1:7 (Male: Female), stocking densities 2, 3.5 and 5 fish/m3, photoperiods 6:18, 12:12 and 18:6 (Light:Dark), water salinities 12, 8, 4 and 0 ppt, also10 and 15 days replacement of breeders were studied. Fecundity, breeder and egg per day, spawning intervals, egg diameter and weight were investigated. Results showed stocking density 5 fish/m3, photoperiod 12:12, 8 ppt water salinity and 10 days replacement had better performance. Sex ratio treatments had similar performance.

Resumen
Finfish aquaculture is expected to continue to benefit from significantly improved fish diets, which are the source of energy to support the growth and health of fish. Strategies to enhance the transformation rate of dietary energy and protein to fish growth are greatly desired by fish culturists. Prebiotic compounds can be used as supplements to human, animal, and fish diets to populate beneficial bacteria in the gut. The goal of the present study is to identify low-cost prebiotic compounds with high efficacy in increasing the absorption of food nutrients by fish. Several oligosaccharides were evaluated as prebiotics in Nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus), one of the most widely cultured species in the world. Several parameters of the fish on different diets were evaluated, including feed conversion ratios (FCRs), enzymatic activities, expression of growth-related genes, and the gut microbiome. Two age groups of fish (30 days old and 90 days old) were used in this study. The results indicated that the addition of xylooligosaccharide (XOS), galactooligosaccharide (GOS), or XOS and GOS combination to the basic fish diet significantly decreased the feed conversion ratio (FCR) of the fish in both age groups. Both XOS and GOS decreased the FCR of 30-day-old fish by 34.4% compared to the fish on the control diet. In the 90-day-old fish group, XOS and GOS decreased the FCR by 11.9%, while the combination of the two prebiotics led to a 20.2% decrease in FCR compared to the control group. The application of XOS and GOS also elevated the production of glutathione-related enzymes and the enzymatic activity of glutathione peroxidase (GPX), indicating the enhancement of antioxidation processes in fish. These improvements were associated with significant changes in the fish gut microbiota. The abundance of Clostridium ruminantium, Brevinema andersonii, Shewanella amazonensis, Reyranella massiliensis, and Chitinilyticum aquatile were upregulated by XOS and GOS supplements. The findings of the present study suggested that the prebiotics would be more effective when they were applied to the younger fish, and the application of multiple oligosaccharide prebiotic compounds could result in a greater growth enhancement. The identified bacteria can be potentially used as probiotic supplements in the future to improve fish growth and feeding efficiency and ultimately reduce the cost of tilapia aquaculture.

Resumen
Aquaculture has been the world's fastest-growing food production sector for the last two decades. Collectively, the local aquaculture sector produced 391,000 tonnes of cultivated organisms, with an economic value of over USD 700 million, accounted about 0.2 percent of Malaysia's gross domestic product (GDP) in 2019 (Azra et al., 2021). Penang's aquaculture production gained the highest wholesale revenue in Malaysia. Brackish water ponds and cages constitute the majority of Penang's aquaculture and reported the highest number of culturists. Fisheries from brackish water have been contributing nearly 50% of the total fish production, and about 69% of its value in Penang (Penang Institute, 2020). Of these, sea bass and snapper recorded the highest production, followed by shrimp, cockle and other brackish water cages species, such as hybrid grouper and mackerel. Technology and practice adoption research has recently gained popularity in the area of aquaculture studies (Joffre et al., 2020). A variety of factors have contributed to the low output. A lack of knowledge about recommended fish farming practices is one of the socioeconomic characteristics of fish farmers and non-adoption (Muddassir et al., 2016). Lack of livelihood asset, either physical or human assets particularly in terms of knowledge, access to information, and experience, and aspects of sustainability in terms of environmental conservation. The issue of production sustainability, employment of improved technology, concept of eco-friendly, and food safety regulations are known challenges for the aquaculture industry. Furthermore, constraints such as the education and knowledge, human greed, irresponsible, short-sighted activities, small farm size and investment, uprising cost of production and weak legislation and enforcement are generally common among the aquaculture farmers (Othman, 2010). With the aforementioned, this research is aimed to access extension and advisory services, adoption of aquaculture technology, and determine the barriers that threatened the sustainability of the aquaculture industry. Resumen
AbstractScanning electron microscopy of the scales of Cyprinus carpio, inhabiting two government-sponsored fish farms, with different sources of pollutants, in the North-East state of Meghalaya, India revealed extensive damage to them. Lepidonts, which are teeth-like structures present on the edge of circulii, were discovered to be either partly or completely damaged. The dislodgment of complete rows of lepidonts along with broken lepidonts was also observed. Loss of symmetry and torn areas of circulii are some of the abnormalities also observed as compared to control samples. The alterations observed could be because of the high sensitivity of the scales to environmental stress and their capacity to react to low concentrations of pollutants, which makes them a sensitive bioindicator of water pollution. The study hence not only represents an advance in pollution research, by employing a highly sophisticated analytical approach to reveal the above-mentioned microstructural scale abnormalities, but it can also have scientific impact on the society at large and the fish culturist in particular in understanding the destructive impact of pollution caused by mismanagement of city garbage and agricultural effluents.

This dissertation has as its theme the collective action and the difficulties encountered by family farmers. As central question, we sought to answer what characteristics of cooperation to make a strategy that sustain us in the long term. As the object of study, it was investigated whether the agribusiness system (SAG) of pisciculture specifically the Association of Farmers Maripa and region (Aquimap). In This way, the objective of this study was to analyze the effect from an initiative of horizontal cooperation established by fish culturists family of the city of Maripa - PR, which factors have promoted and strengthened the Aquimap over time. The study was based on literature of collective actions, through the approaches with different approaches, seeking from these literatures the significant variables for the success or failure of a collective action. The empirical data were collected through interviews, questionnaires and records, performed with the associated with the entity, former president and the technician of Emater. For the analysis of the data, we used the descriptive analysis. The results showed that the majority of the variables analyzed as positive for collective action in study. However with regard to homogeneity and strong ties, it was observed as negative for the study, in spite of presenting as negative, the case empirical obtains success. Still meets highlight that the collective action obtains success over time, and the small family producers has remained with the production of fish. This study presents significant contribution to the studies of collective action, identifying the variables that can be considered as inductors of the success or failure of an action.

Abstract.—Michigan’s fish hatcheries were originally developed in the 1870s in response to rapidly declining commercial fish stocks caused by massive overharvest and habitat degradation. While the writings of early fish culturists decried the waste from the commercial fishery and the destruction of critical habitat, there was little political will to do anything but stock fish, so for nearly 50 years, hatcheries became the only fishery management tool to address these problems. In the 1920s and 1930s, fishery managers recognized that more than hatcheries were needed to restore fish populations. Efforts were initiated to improve habitat and strictly control harvest. Hatcheries were still the primary focus of fisheries management, but culture policy changed to the production of fingerling rather than fry. This philosophy held sway until 1950 when a combination of research on fingerling returns and social demand for instant recreation forced the start of the legal-size trout program along with a reduction in the coolwater culture program in Michigan. In 1964, a complete shift in thought occurred. The legal-size trout program was discontinued, habitat rehabilitation was emphasized, and a policy of a 1:1 return to the creel as stocked was instituted. Propagated fish also became a tool for ecosystem change and Great Lakes salmonid stocking started in earnest to balance these prey dominated systems. In the 1970s and 1980s, coolwater fisheries programs were re-examined as water quality improvements from the Clean Water Act opened up new habitat for the re-establishment of these species. Large-scale culture operations for fingerling walleye, northern pike, muskellunge, and lake sturgeon culture operations were reinitiated. In the 1980s and 1990s, public concern over hatchery programs forced managers to review fish culture and stocking practices, and hatcheries became one of many biological, legal, and sociological tools to rehabilitate fish populations. Current Fisheries management philosophy in Michigan uses cultured fish to meet four objectives: (1) reestablish extirpated species, (2) rehabilitate degraded fish populations, (3) provide for ecosystem balance, and (4) create new sportfishing opportunities.
