Resumen
The Fucose-Mannose Ligand (FML) of Leishmania donovani is a complex glycoproteic fraction. Its potential use as a tool for diagnosis of human visceral leishmaniasis was tested with human sera from Natal, Rio Grande do Norte, Brazil. The FML-ELISA test, showed 100% sensitivity and 96% specificity, identifying patients with overt kala-azar (p < 0.001, when compared to normal sera), and subjects with subclinical infection. More than 20% apparently healthy subjects with positive reaction to FML developed overt kala-azar during the following 10 months. In the screening of human blood donnors, a prevalence of 5% of sororeactive subjects was detected, attaining 17% in a single day. The GP36 glycoprotein of FHL is specifically reconized by human kala-azar sera. The immunoprotective effect of FML on experimental L. donovanii infection was tested in swiss albino mice. The protection scheemes included three weekly doses of FML, supplemented or not with saponin by the subcutaneous or intraperitoneal routes and challenge with 2x 10(7) amastigotes of Leishmania donovani. An enhancement of 80.0 % in antibody response (p<0.001) and reduction of 85.5 % parasite liver burden (p<0.001) was detected in animals immunized with FML saponin, unrespectivety of the immunization route.

Resumen
Leg movement during cycling is constrained to the pedal/crank path and predominantly occurs in a sagittal plane. Medial-lateral force (FML) applied to the pedals is considered as a waste and does not contribute to the pedaling. The aim of this study was to examine the changes in FML across different cadences and workloads, and to examine the correlation with lateral knee movement (Q-angle). Twenty-two cyclists completed six trials at three workloads (2, 2.5 and 3 W/kg) and three cadences (75, 85, 95 rpm). Forces were recorded from the force pedal mounted to the left side. Absolute and normalized (to the peak total force) FML were compared across conditions and cross-correlation with Q-angle was calculated. Absolute FML was significantly different across cadences and workloads (p < 0.05) with higher absolute FML at higher cadence. There was no significant difference in normalized FML across the three cadences. There was a significant decrease in normalized FML (~10 N) at higher workloads. Statistically significant correlations were found between the FML and Q-angle (R = 0.70–0.77). The results demonstrate the link between the FML and Q-angle in healthy pain-free cyclists during stationary cycling. It has also been observed that smaller normalized magnitude of the FML is present when the force effectiveness is increased.

Resumen
Abstract OBJECTIVES Our goal was to assess the aortic leaflet free margin length (FML) and geometric height (gH) in a normal aortic valve (AV), aorta dilatation and aortic leaflet prolapse. METHODS We measured the FML and gH intraoperatively in 132 patients operated on for aortic insufficiency, aortic dilatation, endocarditis or fibroelastoma. Patients were divided into 3 groups: normal tricuspid AV (group 1, n = 12), aortic dilatation (group 2, tricuspid = 43, bicuspid = 18) and leaflet prolapse (group 3, tricuspid = 32, bicuspid = 27). The FML and gH were compared between the groups and between the leaflets within each group. RESULTS In a normal tricuspid AV, the mean FML and gH were 34.7 ± 3.1 mm and 18.8 ± 1.7 mm, respectively. In group 2 tricuspid, the FML and gH were greater than those in group 1 (FML 43.7 ± 4.4, P < 0.001; gH 21.2 ± 1.8, P = 0.003). In group 3, tricuspid, the FML of the prolapsing leaflet was greater than the FML of the non-prolapsing leaflet (48.3 ± 5.4 vs 42.2 ± 3.6; P < 0.001). In group 2, bicuspid, FML of both leaflets were similar in group 2, but augmented on the fused leaflet compared to the non-fused leaflet in group 3 (fused 55.4 ± 6.3; non-fused 46.2 ± 6.2; P < 0.001). In groups 2 and 3 bicuspid, the gH of the non-fused leaflet was systematically greater than the fused leaflet (group 2 non-fused 24.6 ± 2.5 vs fused 20.4 ± 2.1; P < 0.001) CONCLUSIONS In aortic dilatation and leaflet prolapse, FML and, to a lesser extent, gH increased significantly compared to those of normal AV function. FML and gH dimensions also depended on the valve configuration (tricuspid/bicuspid). These data provide new insight into the pathomorphology of AV disease and will serve to further develop new methods of AV repair based on intraoperative measurements of the FML.

Resumen
The Fiber Metal Laminate (FML) discussed here was made from Fiber Reinforced Polymer (FRP) composite, laminated by aluminum alloy sheet. The FRP composite panel was made from abaca fiber and polyester resin matrix. The objective was to study the bending strength of the FML with different fiber content. Five panels of abaca FRP were prepared using hand-lay-up methods. The weight content of the fiber in the panels were 0%, 3.56%, 5.18%, 8.94% and 12.22% respectively. The aluminum alloy sheet was laminated to the composite panel using epoxy super glue. The density of the FMLs were measured to confirm the fiber content in the panels. The bending specimen were prepared based on ASTM D-7264. The bending strength that represented by flexural stress of the FML panels were 53.15, 56.44, 46.80, 63.53 61.48 and 49.57 MPa, respectively. The result of the experiment showed that the content of abaca fiber significantly affects the bending strength of the FML. The highest bending strength (63.53 MPa) was produced by the FML with 5.18% fiber content. The result of the study showed that the bending strength of abaca FML was 19.5% higher than commercial FML (53.15 MPa). It was an indication that abaca fiber could be used to substitute the glass fiber in commercial FML.

Resumen
Background: Making silage added with additives can improve the quality of silage nutrition and speed up the fermentation process. Molasses are widely used by farmers as additives for making silage. The use of molasses can be replaced with Fermented Mother Liquor (FML) in making silage. Purpose: to determine the effect of molasses addition on physical and chemical quality of corn plant silage given Fermented Mother Liquor (FML). Method: Observative data collection by making direct observations on making silage with two treatments consist of P0 (Corn Plant + 2% Fermented Mother Liquor (FML)) and P1 (Corn Plant + 2% Fermented Mother Liquor (FML) + 2% Molasses). The silage storage time was one week and on the seventh day observations were made on the physical and chemical quality of silage in each treatment. Result: The corn plant silage given fermented mother liquor (FML) without the addition of molasses produced better physical and chemical quality compared to corn plant silage given Fermented Mother Liquor (FML) with the addition of molasses. Conclusion: the corn plant silage given Fermented Mother Liquor (FML) only had better physical and chemical quality

Resumen
Purpose The purpose of the study was to develop the forming methodology for FML laminates with complex shapes, based on aluminium and epoxy-glass composite. Design/methodology/approach The subject of research encompassed Al/GFRP fibre metal laminates. Autoclave process has been selected for FML profiles production. The manufacturing process was followed by quality analysis for laminates produced. Findings The achievement of high stability and dimensional tolerance of thin-walled FML laminates is ensured by developed technology. The values of selected sections angles are significantly limited as a result of forming of FML laminates through the components performing. Failure to adhere to technological recommendations and to high regime of developer technology may lead to the occurrence of defects in FML. Practical implications Thin-walled composite structures could be applied in light-weight constructions, such as aircraft structures, which must meet rigorous requirements with regard to operation under complex load. The development of this type of technology may contribute to increased importance of FML sections in research area and finally to increased scope of their applications. Originality/value The production of thin-walled FML profiles with complex geometry, which would be characterized by dimensional stability and repeatable structural quality free of defects, is associated with many problems. No studies have been published so far on an effective forming process for FML laminates with complex shapes. Developed methodology has been verified through quality evaluation of produced profiles by means of non-destructive and destructive methods. The development of this type of technology may contribute to increased importance of FML, e.g. in aerospace technology.

Resumen
Low aqueous solubility of drug causes difficulties in preparation and inconvenience of administration. Polymeric micelles of fluorometholone (FML) using solid dispersion technique were prepared to develop an eye drop formulation with enhanced water solubility. Solid dispersions of FML were prepared at various FML:Soluplus® w/w ratios using solvent evaporation method. A physical mixture was also prepared. Physicochemical characterization was performed with various methods. Ex vivo porcine corneal permeation of polymeric micelle, physical mixture, and commercial product were compared. FML solid dispersion (1:15) showed the highest solubility, which was c.a. 169.6- and 15.3-fold higher than that of pure FML and physical mixture. Characterization showed that the crystalline form of FML changed to amorphous state and polymeric micelles were formed in round micelle. Flucon®, a commercial product of FML, showed significantly large particle size and high poly dispersity index. In contrast, FML polymeric micelle showed submicron size with uniform size distribution. Ex vivo porcine corneal permeation study showed that permeation by polymeric micelles was significantly higher than that by the commercial product and physical mixture. In addition, confocal laser scanning microscopic analysis supported the enhanced porcine corneal tissue permeation property of polymeric micelle. In conclusion, polymeric micelle prepared with solid dispersion using Soluplus® can be a potential nanomedicine for ocular delivery of poorly water-soluble FML.

Resumen
Here, we investigated the roles and mechanisms of flavonoids from mulberry leaves (FML) on lipid metabolism in high fat diet (HFD)-fed mice. ICR mice were fed either a control diet (Con) or HFD with or without FML (240 mg/kg/day) by oral gavage for six weeks. FML administration improved lipid accumulation, alleviated liver steatosis and the whitening of brown adipose tissue, and improved gut microbiota composition in HFD-fed mice. Microbiota transplantation from FML-treated mice alleviated HFD-induced lipid metabolic disorders. Moreover, FML administration restored the production of acetic acid in HFD-fed mice. Correlation analysis identified a significant correlation between the relative abundances of Bacteroidetes and the production of acetic acid, and between the production of acetic acid and the weight of selected adipose tissues. Overall, our results demonstrated that in HFD-fed mice, the lipid metabolism improvement induced by FML administration might be mediated by gut microbiota, especially Bacteroidetes-triggered acetic acid production.

Resumen
ABSTRACTThe aim of the present study is to analyze interfacial adhesion and characterize the tensile properties of a FML elaborated from thin layers of an aluminum alloy and layers of maleic anhydride modified polypropylene (MAHPP) reinforced with an aramid woven fabric. For the analysis of interfacial adhesion, a microbond test is carried out on the MAHPP-aramid fiber system and a single lap joint test is performed on FML constituent materials, as well as the tensile characterization of the FML and its constituents is conducted accordingly. Microbond testing revealed an improvement in interfacial shear strength for the MAHPP-aramid fiber system in comparison with that of polypropylene-aramid fiber systems reported in the literature. The apparent shear strength between the FML constituent materials is comparable to that for bonding of aluminum with MAHPP. Tensile characterization of the FML and its constituents showed that the FML presented greater tensile strength than the aluminum alloy; and a more ductile behavior in comparison with its individual components due to the degree of adhesion between the constituents which allows the material to deform in unison.

Resumen
In this paper, the impact behavior of repaired cracked plates was investigated experimentally. single edge cracked aluminum plate having crack length to width ratios of 0.1, 0.3 and 0.5 was repaired with four different patch configurations namely: 3 layer GRP, 5 layer GRP patch, 2/1 FML patch and 3/2 FML patches tested in Charpy impact and the energy absorbed by specimens were compared together and compared with the unrepaired cracked plate. FML patches were made of thin layers of glass/epoxy composites of 0.2 mm thickness with phosphor bronze sheets of 0.2 mm thickness. The patching was single side. The composite and FML patching was more effective in repairing the specimens with greater crack length. Placing 3 GRP and 5 GRP patches increased the absorbed energy by only 3 to 4 joules respectively as compared to unrepaired plate. The use of 2/1 and 3/2 FML patches could increase the absorbed energy two to four times depend on crack length.

Resumen
During the past decades, increasing requirement in aircraft for high-performance, lightweight structures have caused strong interests on the development of fiber-metal laminates (FMLs), which are manufractured from thin layers of glass fibre reinforced composite and alluminium alloy. In this paper, the nonlinear dynamic response problem of the FML plate subjected to unstable temperature with interfacial damage is analyzed. Based on the weak bonded theory, the interfacial constitutive relations of the FML are constructed. According to the Hamiltons variance principle, the nonlinear motion equations of the FML with interfacial damages subjected to the unstable thermal field are obtained. And then, the finite difference, Newmark-and the iteration method are applied to solve the nonlinear motion equations. In the numerical examples, the effects of the interface damage, the amplitude and frequency of imposed loads and the temperature fields on the nonlinear dynamic response of the FML plates are investigated. And in conclusion, the effects of various type of temperature on the nonlinear dynamic response of FML plate are different obviously.

Resumen
The present investigation deals with the assessment of parametric resonance behavior of new aircraft material, i.e., woven fiber metal laminated (FML) plates subjected to in-plane static and harmonic loading using finite element (FE) technique and Bolotin’s method. In this analysis, a four-node isoparametric element with five degrees of freedom per node is adopted. Based on the first-order Reissner–Mindlin theory, the parametric instability of FML plate subjected to in-plane harmonic loading is examined. A MATLAB code is developed for the parametric study on the dynamic stability of FML plates. The reliability of present formulation is checked by comparing numerical results obtained from present FE analysis with the published researches in the field. The influences of several factors, viz. static load factor, aspect ratio, length-to-thickness ratio, number of layers, ply orientation and boundary conditions on the dynamic instability regions are discussed. Significant variations of these factors on dynamic instability zones of FML plates are observed. The instability zones can be used as guidelines for the prediction of the dynamic behavior of FML plates.

The quality of the part and the robustness of the process in stamp-forming of sheet materials are determined by a number of variables. This study looks at the application of the stamping process to a Fibre-Metal Laminate (FML) material system and the effect of the process variables on the formability characteristics of these material systems. The effect of pre-heating temperature on the splitting and wrinkling behaviour has been investigated for two different FML systems. It has been found that different FML systems exhibit different failure modes.

In this paper, we demonstrate the application of Fuzzy Markup Language (FML) to construct an FML-based Dynamic Assessment Agent (FDAA), and we present an FML-based Human–Machine Cooperative System (FHMCS) for the game of Go. The proposed FDAA comprises an intelligent decision-making and learning mechanism, an intelligent game bot, a proximal development agent, and an intelligent agent. The intelligent game bot is based on the open-source code of Facebook’s Darkforest, and it features a representational state transfer application programming interface mechanism. The proximal development agent contains a dynamic assessment mechanism, a GoSocket mechanism, and an FML engine with a fuzzy knowledge base and rule base. The intelligent agent contains a GoSocket engine and a summarization agent that is based on the estimated win rate, real-time simulation number, and matching degree of predicted moves. Additionally, the FML for player performance evaluation and linguistic descriptions for game results commentary are presented. We experimentally verify and validate the performance of the FDAA and variants of the FHMCS by testing five games in 2016 and 60 games of Google’s Master Go, a new version of the AlphaGo program, in January 2017. The experimental results demonstrate that the proposed FDAA can work effectively for Go applications.

Resumen
The aim of this study was to compare the effectiveness of a music appreciation training program (MATP) to that of focused music listening (FML) for improving music and/or speech in noise perception for postlingually deafened cochlear implant (CI) recipients. It was hypothesized that the MATP would show greater improvements than FML. Ten CI recipients were randomly divided into two groups: one undertaking the MATP and the other undertaking FML. Participants completed four 30-minute sessions per week for 8 weeks, with tests of music and speech-in-noise perception being administered four times per participant: before and after a control period, immediately after the intervention, and 4–8 weeks after intervention. There was a significant pre- to posttraining difference for the MATP group on the instrument identification test, as well as for half of the quality rating assessments. Although no statistically significant improvements were obtained for the FML group, there was a trend of higher scores postintervention for the instrument and ensemble identification tests, and compliance was substantially better than for the MATP group. While the results showed that only the music training significantly improved music perception, the potential of FML to benefit some CI recipients for some tasks was also observed.

Resumen
ABSTRACT The fucose-mannose ligand (FML) complex of Leishmania donovani is a promising vaccine candidate against murine and canine visceral leishmaniasis, and its main component is a 36-kDa nucleoside hydrolase (NH36). In this study, we tested the immune response and protection induced by the purified FML, the recombinant NH36 (rNH36), and NH36 DNA vaccines against the agents of visceral (L. chagasi) and cutaneous (L. mexicana) leishmaniasis in BALB/c mice. Mice developed weak humoral response to the vaccines alone, except for those immunized with FML. However, all three vaccine groups presented elevated immunoglobulin G (IgG), IgG1, and IgG2a levels after infection with L. chagasi, whereas no differences were observed between vaccine and control groups after infection with L. mexicana. A strong intradermal reaction to L. donovani and L. mexicana antigens was observed in mice immunized with rNH36 or FML, whereas mice immunized with NH36 DNA only reacted against L. donovani antigens. Experimental infection of immunized mice demonstrated that FML and rNH36 induced significant protection against L. chagasi infection with reductions in parasite loads of 79%. FML also conferred partial protection against L. mexicana infection. The best protection was observed in mice immunized with the VR1012-NH36 DNA vaccine, which induced an 88% reduction in L. chagasi parasite load and a 65% reduction in L. mexicana lesion size. Fluorescence-activated cell sorting analysis indicated the DNA vaccine induced a two- to fivefold increase in gamma interferon-producing CD4+ T cells, indicating a Th1-type immune response. Our results showed that the NH36 DNA vaccine induced a strong immunoprotection against visceral and cutaneous leishmaniasis, suggesting that this DNA vaccine represents a very good candidate for use against several Leishmania species.

Resumen
Abstract Temporal and spatial patterns of near-inertial kinetic energy (KEmoor) are investigated in a database of 2480 globally distributed, moored current-meter records (deployed on 690 separate moorings) and compared with the distribution of wind-forced mixed-layer energy flux FML. By computing KEmoor using short (30 day) multitaper spectral windows, the seasonal cycle is resolved. Clear winter enhancement by a factor of 4–5 is seen in the Northern Hemisphere for latitudes 25°–45° at all depths <4500 m, in close agreement with the magnitude, phase, and latitudinal dependence of the seasonal cycle of FML. In the Southern Hemisphere, data coverage is poorer, but a weaker seasonal cycle (a factor of 2) in both KEmoor and FML is still resolvable between 35° and 50°. When Wentzel–Kramers–Brillouin (WKB) scaled using climatological buoyancy-frequency profiles, summer KEmoor is approximately constant in depth while showing a clear decrease by a factor of 4–5 from 500 to 3500 m in winter. Spatial coverage is sufficient in the Northern Hemisphere to resolve broad KEmoor maxima in the western portion of each ocean basin in winter, generally collocated with FML maxima associated with storm forcing. The ratio of depth-integrated KEmoor to FML gives a replenishment time scale, which is about 10 days in midlatitudes, consistent with 1) previous estimates of the dissipation time scale of the internal wave continuum and 2) the presence of a seasonal cycle. Its increase to ≈70–80 days at lower latitudes is a possible signature of equatorward propagation of near-inertial waves. The seasonal modulation of the magnitude of KEmoor, its similarity to that in FML, and the depth decay and western intensification in winter but not in summer are consistent with a primarily wind-forced near-inertial field for latitudes poleward of ≈25°.

Resumen
Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to use the fiber metal laminates (FML) composites as a patch for repairing a single notched specimen made of AL1035 aluminum alloy. The FML composite patch was bonded on one side of the cracked specimens by adhesive Araldite 2015. Then the fatigue crack growth tests were conducted on the specimens and the effects of both FML patch lay-up sequence and pre-crack angle on the fatigue life were investigated. Finally, the effect of repairing on the fracture parameters (SIF and crack propagation direction) at the crack front has also been calculated using three-dimensional finite element analysis. Design/methodology/approach – The fatigue crack growth tests were conducted on the specimens and the effects of both FML patch lay-up sequence and pre-crack angle on the fatigue life were investigated. Findings – The results show that the fatigue life of the patched specimens with inclined crack increased approximately 2-6.02 times compared to the un-patched specimens. In addition, the fatigue crack growth rate decreased significantly when the patch was used. Generally, the FML patch with Plate-Fiber-Fiber-AL lay-up has more efficiency than other lay-up sequences. Originality/value – Recently, composite patches are used in the structure repair processes to increase the service life of cracked components. The bonded patch method is one of the efficient methods among repairing methods. Today, the FMLs are used in the aircraft structures as a replacement of high-strength aluminum alloys due to their lightweight and high-strength properties. Many researches have been performed on single and double side repaired panels using composite patches. In this study, the FML composites have been used as a patch for repairing a single notched specimen made of AL1035 aluminum alloy.

Resumen
The review is devoted to the most common monogenic autoinflammatory disease – familial Mediterranean fever (FML) caused by MEFV gene mutation that occurs mainly in the representatives of certain ethnic groups and manifests itself as recurrent 6–72-hour attacks of pyretic fever accompanied by the phenomena of aseptic peritonitis, pleurisy, arthritis, and inflammatory rash. The disease can lead to a life-threatening complication, such as amyloidosis. FML is noted to be comorbid with a number of other inflammatory diseases: systemic vasculitis, chronic joint inflammatory diseases, and inflammatory bowel diseases. Emphasis is laid on the therapy aspects set out in the 2016 EULAR guidelines. The mainstay of treatment for FML is colchicine that prevents recurrences of the disease, minimizes the risk of amyloidosis, and should be prescribed immediately, once diagnosed. The paper deals with the definition of colchicine resistance that is observed in 5–10% of patients. Biological agents, among which interleukin-1 are most preferred, are now used to treat this category of patients. The high efficacy of these agents in patients with FML has been confirmed in randomized controlled studies.

Resumen
AbstractThe use of fiber-metal laminates (FML) allows for substantial advantages over a fuselage skin made of monolithic aluminum materials. Glass fiber prepreg reinforced aluminium is characterized by high damage tolerance capabilities, supporting the structural strength capability in case of any kind of damage. For this reason, FML, and GLARE in particular, have been identified as superior materials for aerospace applications. More than 400m2 FML is applied on each A380, as skin panels and as D-noses for both, vertical and horizontal stabilizer. FML possess the potential to become the baseline material for next-generation single-aisle aircrafts [1, 2, 6].The development of a new production chain that will allow automated fuselage production for future short-haul aircrafts is the focus of the studies that make up the joint project AUTOGLARE. As part of the fifth call-up for the German Aeronautical Research Programme (LuFo), the German Aerospace Center (DLR) is working with its project partners Airbus Operations, Premium Aerotech (PAG) and the Fraunhofer Gesellschaft (FhG). The development of a production chain for stiffened fuselage panels made of Fiber metal Laminates should support a production rate of 60 aircraft per month [3].This study contains the research work of the DLR and FhG regarding the automated and quality assured process for chain stiffened FML fuselages. In addition to a detailed explanation of the systems that were set up, this paper covers the planned tests, the completed demonstration models and the findings derived from them.

Resumen
The free vibration of fiber–metal laminate (FML) thin circular cylindrical shells with different boundary conditions has been studied in this research. Strain–displacement relations have been obtained according to Love’s first approximation shell theory. To satisfy the governing equations of motion, a beam modal function model has been used. The effects of different FML parameters such as material properties lay-up, volume fraction of metal, fiber orientation, and axial and circumferential wavenumbers on the vibration of the shell have been studied. The frequencies of shells have been calculated for carbon/epoxy and glass/epoxy as composites and for aluminum as metal. The results demonstrate that the influences of FML lay-up and volume fraction of composite on the frequencies of the shell are remarkable.

Resumen
In this study, the impact responses of sandwich structure with both FML and aluminum skins were compared. The force-time histories from the low-velocity drop weight impact tester were recorded under various impact energies. Energy absorbed from the two types of sandwich structures under various impact energies were also calculated by measuring its initial velocity before impact from a series of recorded high speed camera pictures and force-time histories. Based on results obtained, pure aluminum skins with PP honeycomb core that being impacted by lower impact energies shows higher absorbed energies as compared to FML skins. However with higher impact energies the FML skins shows improvement over the aluminum with higher energy absorption capacity. Damages created were also being characterized under optical microscope for further investigation.

PURPOSE: Skull morphometrics is very important in archaeology and forensic sciences for sex identification, especially when only limited osteometric data are available. The foramen magnum (FM) and occipital condyles, appears to be the most permanently preserved region of the human skeleton. The FM length (FML) is the most frequently measured, and often, the single available parameter of the FM in dry skulls. METHODS: FM data for 2524 skulls were taken from the Howells craniometric dataset (HCD). The validation cohort consisted of data for 177 Greek adult non-pathological intact dried skulls (GRD) as provided by the Aristotle University and National and Kapodistrian University (Athens). Descriptive statistics, parametric and non-parametric tests were used. Logistic regression modelling with the derivation of predicted probabilities and receiver operating characteristic ROC curve analyses with 95% CI were applied. Two-tailed P<0.05 was considered significant. RESULTS: The results indicate that the mean of the HCD FML in male was 35.78mm while FML mean in GRD was 35.337mm. The original regression model had predicted correctly 65% of skulls. CONCLUSIONS: There was no significant difference between the predicted and observed values for sex in the Greek skulls validation set. FML, alone, can predict sex (male) with accuracy limit of 71%.

Resumen
The present study deals with numerical and experimental investigations on the vibration behavior of fiber-metal-laminated (FML) plates, a new aircraft material. A finite element (FE)-based formulation is established for the plate using the first-order Reissner–Mindlin theory, including both fibers and metals of different material properties in alternate layers. A four-node isoparametric quadratic element with five degrees of freedom per node is adopted in the analysis. Convergence studies and comparison with previous studies are made to validate the present FE formulation. A set of experiments was conducted to get natural frequencies of vibration for glass FML (GFML) plates using Bruel and Kjaer (B&K) Fast Fourier Transform (FFT) analyzer with PULSE platform. The effects of different parameters such as aspect ratio, side-to-thickness ratio, ply orientation, and boundary conditions on the dynamic behavior of the FMLs are studied. Good agreement is achieved between the numerical and experimental results. Both results indicate that increasing the aspect ratio can increase the natural frequency of the FML plate, while the increase in the side-to-thickness ratio decreases the natural frequency of vibration. The boundary conditions can significantly affect the natural frequency of the FML plates due to the restraint effect at the edges.

Resumen
The microwave composite forming (MCF) process can reduce manufacturing cost because the process time is reduced by the dielectric heating of the mold and the composite material. In a previous study, the MCF process using a commercial microwave oven with a polytetrafluoroethylene mold was applied. Disadvantages of the previous MCF process have been investigated. These included the difference in tensile properties according to the cutting location, absence of a method to measure temperature during the MCF process, and the fact that the input power cannot be controlled according to the temperature. To solve these problems, a microwave oven with a silicon carbide mold was proposed in this study. Uniaxial tensile tests were conducted to obtain the tensile properties of the fiber metal laminate (FML) specimen. In addition, a microscopic image was captured to investigate the non-adhesive area. The tensile properties and thickness distribution of the FML specimens manufactured by the proposed and previous MCF processes were compared according to the cutting location of the FML sheets. Furthermore, the non-adhesive area was quantified to compare the processes. The results revealed that the proposed MCF process improved the tensile properties of the FML specimen and reduced the non-adhesive area.

Resumen
In this work we investigated the application of a novel high performance polymer, polybenzoxazine, as a polymeric matrix in Fiber Metal Laminates (FML). This polymer, when applied on the development of FMLs, generated higher mechanical properties in comparison to fiber metal laminates obtained with epoxy. To investigate the mechanical performance of the polybenzoxazine matrix in FMLs, a mechanical behavior comparison was carried out among epoxy matrix laminates - glass fiber reinforced aluminum laminate (GLARE) and carbon fiber reinforced aluminum laminate (CARALL) - and FML constructed with aluminum and carbon fiber reinforced polybenzoxazine. The mechanical properties were characterized by drop weight impact and flexural methods, and the polybenzoxazine curing behavior through differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). Polybenzoxazine FML generated increasing of: 18% of maximum load, 11% of maximum elongation under flexure and 7.5% of impact energy absorption compared to other fiber metal laminates.

Resumen
AbstractIn recent years, studies on the development of new and advanced composite materials have been increasing. Among these new technological products, Fiber Metal Laminates (FML), and hybrid structures made of aluminium, carbon, glass or aramid fiber, are preferred especially in the aircraft industry due to their high performance. Therefore, free vibration analysis is necessary for the design process of such structures. In this study, the vibration characteristics of FML for clamped-free boundary conditions were investigated experimentally and numerically. Firstly, numerical results were obtained using Finite Element Method (FEM) and then these results were compared with the experimental results. It was seen that the numerical results were in good agreement with the experimental results. As the theoretical model was justified, the effects of various parameters such as number of layers, fiber orientations, and aluminium layer thickness on the in-plane vibration characteristics of the FML straight beam were analysed using FEM. Thus, most important parameters affecting the vibration characteristics of the hybrid structures were determined.

Mechanical damage and storage conditions may alter carbohydrate metabolism and oxidative enzyme activity, causing darkening and impairing the use of tubers in pre-fried potato processing industry. The objective of this study was to evaluate the enzymatic changes and carbohydrate metabolism of ‘Markies’ potato tubers subjected to mechanical damage and exposed to high temperatures before processing. The tubers were stored for 4 months at 8 °C, and further divided into treatment with impact and abrasion damage; and control treatment, in which the tubers were not damaged. Afterwards, they were stored at 28 °C room temperature, evaluated for loss of accumulated fresh mass (FML); total soluble sugar (TSS), reducing sugar (RS) and non-reducing sugar (NRS); color after frying and activity of polyphenoloxidase (PPO) and peroxidase (POD) at 0, 12, 24, 36 and 48 h after placed at room temperature. The mechanical damages incremented FML, RS, PPO and TSS, NRS and POD up to 35.6, 34, and 22 h, respectively. Regardless of the occurrence of mechanical damage and the period of evaluation, the sticks showed a light color after frying and were classified in category 2. The increase in the evaluation time led to the rise in FML and the PPO activity. It is concluded that the mechanical damages increase the FML and cause darkening of the tips of the sticks after frying, however this variety still display qualities that are suitable for industrial processing.

Resumen
Aircraft structures are frequently subjected to impacts from objects such as runway debris and birds. In new aircraft structural design, Fiber Metal Laminates (FMLs) play a significant role due to their excellent mechanical properties, particularly the impact properties. In this study, the aircraft sandwich wing with FML face-sheets are analyzed by finite element model for simulating the bird strike. The numerical simulations of bird strike impact are performed adopting a lagrangian approach to design the wing by MSC/PATRAN FE code. The numerical obtained results are compared with the results in the literature for validation of the model. The effect of fiber orientations, fiber types, metal types in FML face sheets in sandwich wing on impact responses are investigated. The impact responses are illustrated by displacement history, contact force history and energy absorption. According to these results, the sandwich panel with FML skin is suitable structure for energy absorption (that is the most important factor in impact phenomena). The lay-ups with titanium metal layer with aramid fibers are the best.

The study using multi attribute seismic has been done on TG12 field which situated at Lower Foreland Formation, Barito Basin dominated by sandstone on layer area of the target X. The objective of the study is to map the sandstone reservoir by predict distribution value of gamma ray log, neutron porosity, and density which goes through wells such as FM1, FM2, FM3, and FM4 on seismic data. Total attribute that is being used by step wise regression method by considering validation error. Multiattribute process only applied on FM2, FM3, and FM4 wells, whereas FM1 is used as a test well to determine the correlation value between seismic data and log data that is being used. In addition, from well test correlation showing great correlation result of neutron porosity log and density log both obtain the correlation around 0.6322 and 0.6557 while the gamma ray log obtain low correlation that is 0.1647 towards multi attribute result. The processing result of multi attribute obtained distribution of sandstone with gamma ray estimation range value of 65-75.8API, neutron porosity estimation range value 0.15-0.2262, while density estimation range value 2.4308-2.77gr/cc.

Resumen
Purpose: The array of options for the initial management of follicular small cleaved lymphoma (FSCL) and follicular mixed lymphoma (FML) ranges from little or no therapy to the use of intensive combinations of drugs. The Cancer and Leukemia Group B (CALGB) compared two contrasting approaches: a single agent, and combination chemotherapy capable of curing diffuse aggressive lymphomas. Patients and Methods: A total of 228 patients with stage III or IV FSCL or FML were randomized to cyclophosphamide or the combination of cyclophosphamide, doxorubicin, vincristine, prednisone, and bleomycin (CHOP-B). Treatment was continued in responders for 2 years beyond maximal response. The primary end point was survival in the most common subtype, FSCL. Results: Ninety-one percent of all patients responded; complete responses were seen in 66% of those treated with cyclophosphamide and in 60% treated with CHOP-B (P = .36). At 10 years with either cyclophosphamide or CHOP-B, respectively, overall time to failure (25% failure free v 33%; P = .107) and survival (44% alive v 46%; P = .79) were similar by treatment. Outcomes in FSCL also were similar. In 46 patients with FML, at 10 years the combination was associated with better failure-free (9% v 48%; P = .005) and overall (25% v 61%; P = .024) survival. Acute toxic effects were more common with combination chemotherapy. Second malignancies, which might be attributed to treatment, were seen with both approaches. Conclusion: There is no advantage to the initial use of the relatively intensive combination, CHOP-B, for patients with FSCL compared with the less toxic single agent, cyclophosphamide. However, in an unplanned subgroup analysis, patients with FML who received the combination experienced improved disease control and survival.

Resumen
This paper presents an investigation into the effect of graphene nanoplatelets (GNPs) as a means of improving the impact buckling performance and delamination propagation resistance of a recently developed 3D fiber-metal laminate (3D-FML). One of the highlights of the investigation is the examination of the performance of the GNP-reinforced resin at a sub-freezing temperature (−50 °C). 3D-FML beam specimens were subjected to axial impact of various intensities at room-temperature, while they were subjected to quasi-static axial compression load at the sub-freezing temperature. Moreover, the influence of two different surface preparation methods on the performance of the metallic/FRP interfaces of the hybrid system was also investigated in this study. Although the inclusion of the GNPs in the resin resulted in some gain in the buckling capacity of the 3D-FML, nevertheless, the results revealed that the lack of adequate chemical bond between the GNP-reinforced resin and the magnesium skins of the hybrid material system significantly limited the potential influence of the GNPs. Therefore, a cost-effective and practical alternative is presented that results in a significant improvement in the interfacial capacity.

Resumen
The composite accompanied with a function of thermoelectric conversion has been fabricated. It was a fiber metal laminate (FML) consisting of two aluminum alloy sheets of 0.5mm thickness and a central layer of glass fiber reinforced plastic (GFRP). The central layer with a thickness of 1mm included thermoelectric elements of Bi-Te based alloys between glass fibers. The mechanical properties of FML with and without the thermoelectric elements were evaluated by tensile and bending test. The thermomechanical properties were measured by a potentiometer for a module with heated and cooled sides, and plotted a potential as a function of difference in temperature between both sides.
