Master thesis deals with a comparison of two web application frameworks in PHP. The aim of this work is to provide a comprehensive view of the possibilities, differences and advantages of the selected frameworks. The main source for comparison is sample web applications that demonstrate these possibilities. For a comprehensive comparison, various criteria were chosen to analyze the properties of frameworks. These criteria are divided into five categories. Technology support examines the compatibility of framework for different versions of the platform. The most important and most widespread category is the analysis of options for creation of web applications, which discusses the most common tasks in developing applications and how frameworks approaches it. Other categories are design and architecture of framework, testing and general support for developers, which analyzes both online and offline sources of information used to learn and solve problems using the selected framework . Comparison results based on above mentioned criteria can help developers when choosing a modern web development framework for PHP platform.

This thesis investigates how to decide what JavaScript framework to use when the front-end world is constantly changing and new technologies are added. Choosing the right framework can save a developer or company time, money and reduce complexity. An interview study with developers was done to extract what is important in a framework. The interview study concluded in six themes regarding what to investigate when choosing a framework along with a checklist and in-depth questions. Based on the results from the interview study together with a test application design, four web applications were implemented in the JavaScript frameworks React, Angular, Vue and Svelte. This was followed by a qualitative evaluation to see if this investigative approach provided meaningful insights. The test application results show that the combination of in-depth questions and design specification gave a basic technical understanding of the strengths and weaknesses of the frameworks together with an understanding of their history and current development. The goal of this thesis is to provide more ways of comparing frameworks in the front-end communities and academic world.

The diploma thesis compares first and second version of the PHP framework Zend Framework. It examines framework architecture and technology changes that were brought about by its second version released stable in September 2012. It demonstrates the changes using a practical example application and evaluates them by a set of diverse criteria. The introductory part of the thesis characterizes and classifies web frameworks and determines their place among other software frameworks. In the subsequent part the thesis looks into fundamental characteristics and history of Zend Framework and puts it into its place among web frameworks based on their previous classification. The practical part, that represents the majority of thesis, demonstrates the differences between the first and the second version of Zend Framework using the example application, starting with framework installation and configuration, describing its architecture and ending with evaluation of its speed and security.

<p>This master thesis presents a new and redesigned version of Peer2Me, a framework for developing mobile collaborative applications on mobile phones. The first version of Peer2Me was designed and created by Carl-Henrik Wolf Lund and Michael Sars Norum in 2005, which was presented in their master thesis, The Peer2Me Framework, [31]. We evaluated their framework in our depthstudy [5], fall of 2005. The evaluation showed that the framework lacked some desired and necessary functionality, had some bugs and was a bit hard to use. This thesis also describes the history of Peer2Me along with cental concepts regarding peer-to-peer networking in an mobile ad hoc environment. There are a lot of on going and finished projects that can be related to Peer2Me. We have chosen to investigate the most interesting and relevant projects, which are presented in Chapter 11, State of the Art. Since a redesign of the Peer2Me framework was necessary, we have performed a research in the most recognized architectural tactics, design patterns and architectural patters. Before embarking on the task of designing the framework, a research in the latest technology was necessary. In our depthstudy [5], we had already performed such a research, so we only had to obtain the latest development in the related areas. Special attention was given to the Bluetooth wireless network technology. All created packages, classes and interfaces are thoroughly described along with their roles in the framework. We felt that a mere description of the modules was not enough, so we wrote Chapter 16, Design Decisions, which discusses the different crossroads we faced with during development, and the path we chose. To give the reader an impression of how the framework can be used, we also developed some applications that utilizes the new framework. Lastly we evaluated our work, compared the old and new framework, discussed the problems we encountered, answered our research questions and summarized the thesis. All source code, javadoc and a functional, new version of Peer2Me are attached along with this report.</p>

In diesem Beitrag wird ein Framework vorgeschlagen, mit dessen Hilfe eine Aussage über das Referenzpotenzial einer Person auf Basis ihres Kommunikationsverhaltens in Microblogs getroffen werden kann. Innerhalb des Gestaltungszieles werden zunächst passende Determinanten des Referenzpotenzials identifiziert und beschrieben. Darauf aufbauend wird das Influence Potencial Framework mit drei Indikatoren ausgestaltet um diese Determinanten zu operationalisieren. Anschließend wird ein Portfolio zur Einordnung von Personen nach ihrem Referenzpotenzial aufgestellt. Abschließend wird ein Fazit gezogen und ein Ausblick auf weitere Forschungsziele gegeben.

Los sitios web dedicados al comercio tienen una oportunidad única totalmente nueva para desarrollar negocios. Existe la oportunidad de desarrollar vetajas competitivas significativas en sus respectivos mercados creando experiencias gratas para el usuario. El éxito dependerá en perfeccionar los esfuerzos para abordar las expeciencias de clientes centrados en el usuario.
Los Frameworks Open Source disponibles permiten desarrollar una gran variedad de soluciones e-Commerce, además de tener grandes comunidades que las respaldan así como muchísimos usuarios satisfechos. Sin embargo, todas estas opciones fueron construidas en un contexto en donde el poder de procesamiento de los clientes era limitado. Muy distinto al actual panorama, en donde la web ha madurado alcanzando una serie de características que mejoran las experiencias de los usuarios.
El presente trabajo propone una solución tecnológica base para apoyar el desarrollo de diferentes soluciones e-Commerce donde es posible (en comparación a los Frameworks actuales): resultados más rápidos, ideal para prototipos y productos entregables mínimos; una solución integral que desarrolla características para servidores, browsers y dispositivos móviles; contruido nativamente con capacidades tiempo-real para minimizar el esfuerzo en desarollo; e integración de herramientas de desarrollo para hacer que la configuración, desarrollo, e instalación sea extremadamente rápido.
Durante el trabajo de título se logró desarrollar una plataforma con base sólida construida a partir de las buenas prácticas obtenidas por la experiencia de los actuales sitios web e-Commerce, pero con características de las aplicaciones web modernas tales como reactividad y tiempo-real, lo que le entrega ventajas competitivas. El mayor aporte de este trabajo fue el desarrollo de una arquitectura genérica útil para cualquier aplicación web. Finalmente se plantean transformaciones útiles en la arquitectura que beneficiarán también al framework.

From the first generation, 1G, to the fourth generation, 4G, the development and technological advancements in telecommunications network systems have been remarkable. Faster and better connections have opened up for new markets, ideas and possibilities, to that extent that there now is a demand that surpasses the supply. Despite all these advancements made in the mobile communications field most of the concept of how the technology works and its infrastructure has remained the same. This however, is about to change with the introduction of the fifth generation (5G) mobile communication. With the introduction of 5G much of the technology introduced will be different from that of previous generations. This change extends to include the entire infrastructure of the mobile communications system. With these major changes, many of the tools available today for telecommunications network evaluation do not really suffice to include the 5G network standard. For this reason, there is a need to develop a new kind of tool that will be able to include the changes brought by this new network standard. In this thesis a simulation framework adapted for the next generation telecommunication standard 5G is set to be developed. This framework should include many of the characteristics that set 5G aside from previous generations.

<p>This project continues the work started in our depth study project in the fall of 2004, develop- ing a framework for mobile collaborative applications on mobile phones utilizing Personal Area Networks (PANs). This paper describes central, theoretical concepts connected to the Peer-to-Peer (P2P) comput- ing, the Mobile Ad Hoc NETworks (MANETs) and the Computer Supported Cooperative Work (CSCW) domains, focusing on "Same-Place-Same-Time" collaboration. We argue how the spread of PAN technology and mobile phones enable for a broad range of new collaborative applications supporting both collocated work and spontaneous interaction. Updated information about relevant technologies and related projects are discussed and evaluated. The requirements for the Peer2Me framework are presented and updated along with a revised and improved design. The design and the requirements are a product of an explorative development effort to develop the next generation of the Peer2Me framework using Java 2 Micro Edition and the Java APIs for Bluetooth wireless technology (JABWT). The Peer2Me framework is then tested on actual developers in a workshop arranged in May 2005. Data gathered from this workshop is used to illustrate the benefits of using a framework like Peer2Me for developing mobile collaborative applications. In addition to the actual Peer2Me framework implementation along with its Bluetooth network module, example applications are designed, implemented and tested in order to verify the suit- ability of the Peer2Me framework in the problem domain. These applications illustrate different kinds of aspects of the Peer2Me framework and the domain of mobile collaborative applications. The tests of these applications are done through enactment of the usage scenarios from which the applications were derived. The main results of this project are the technical products comprised of the Peer2Me framework, the Bluetooth Network module and the example Peer2Me applications, as well as the empirical data supporting the advantages of Peer2Me and the evaluations upon the suitability of the applied technologies.</p>

Includes bibliographical references<br>The South African city is facing overarching issues which include skewed and dysfunctional urban forms, rapid urbanization and population growth resulting in ever increasing poverty, inequality and unemployment. The spatial configuration and socio-economic concerns were triggered by the 'historical development trajectory' during the Apartheid Era alongside with infective urban management policies and practices during the post-Apartheid period. These innumerable patterns of spatial segregation have created important structural ineptitudes which contribute to the aforementioned socio-economic challenges. According to Stats SA (2011), more than 60% of South Africans live in urban regions. Thus, the consequences of urbanisation and a high fertility rate are bringing new challenges to the urban management in South African's settlements. There are two main implications deriving from these identified demographic dynamics. Firstly, the patterns of urban growth which accompany rapid urbanisation. The legacy of the Apartheid Planning Model together with the rising demand for housing and social service infrastructure has resulted in an urban system characterised by low density urban sprawl, a fragmented coarse-grain urban fabric, the separation of various social groups (racial and income) and dysfunctional urban land-uses. Secondly, the social consequences resulted from expanding growing level of poverty, imbalanced development, unemployment and informality levels within human settlements. In response to the fore-mentioned issues, this report argues a Spatial Development Framework and precinct design for the town of George. The SDF and precinct design are believed to create a restructuring process for a balanced approach towards development and economic growth. From a spatial perspective, the SDF aims to achieve this vision through the creation of a sustainable and equitable town.

<p>The single core processor stagnated due to four major factors. (1) The lack of instruction level parallelism to exploit, (2) increased power consumption, (3) complexity involved in designing a modern processor, and (4) the gap in performance between memory and the processor. As the gate size has decreased, a natural solution has been to introduce several cores on the same die, creating a chip multicore processor. However, the introduction of chip multicore processors has brought a new set of new challenges such as power consumptions and cache strategies. Although throughly researched in context of super computers, the chip multiprocessor has decreased in physical size, and thus some of the old paradigms should be reevaluated, and new ones found. To be able to research, simulate and experiment on new multicore architectures, simulators and methods of prototyping are needed by the community, and has traditionally been done by software simulators. To help decrease the time between results, and increase the productivity a hardware based method of prototyping is needed. This thesis contributes by presenting a novel multicore architecture with interchangeable and easily customizable units allowing the developers to extend the architecture, rewriting only the subsystem in question. The architecture is implemented in VHDL and has been tested on a Virtex FPGA, utilizing the MicroBlaze microcontroller. Based upon FPGA technologies, the platform has a more accurate nature than a software based simulator. The thesis also shows that a hardware based environment will significantly decrease the time to results.</p>

This thesis is a continuation of the author’s specialization project where the ultimate goal is to build an object recognition framework suitable for mobile devices in real world environments, where control over parameters such as illumination, distance, noise and availability of consistent network architectures are limited. Based on shortcomings related to object recognition performance and architectural issues the author’s goal was to increase the flexibility, usability and performance of the framework.Literature was reviewed on frameworks in order to discover useful techniques for development and documentation. Together with a re-introduction to the implemented recognition scheme an evaluation of the original framework artefact was performed with regards to the goals of this thesis. The results from the evaluation aided in finding an approach that balanced trade-offs between flexibility, usability, correctness and performance. By using proven framework development and documentation tactics from the literature study the author created a new iteration of the framework, improving upon the previous solution. The result is a stand alone artefact containing a hierarchy of software packages which divide functionality and offer customization using a combination of inheritance and components. The introduction of components hides domain knowledge and allows for easier reuse.In order to improve recognition performance and framework flexibility the author added external server support for image information extraction as well as support for the usage of different feature detectors and descriptor extractors. Because of time constraints the author did not test these new feature detectors and descriptor extractors suitability or performance. This testing can now be performed by the customer.In order to ensure proper correctness a lower bound on the image resolution is set at 600x600 pixels. Using properly built models correct recognition in about 90% of the cases is achievable. The added support for server side information extraction improves the object recognition performance by 42% in ideal conditions using the lower bound images. This improvement is still not enough to meet the performance criteria and combined with other issues results in the framework falling short of being ready to build production environment applications.

This t.hesis describes the synthesis and characterisation of metal-organic framework matenals based on cobalt and nickel salts with rigid organic ligands. 'It also contains an account of synthetic and catalytic work towards the incorporation of rhodium into existing frameworks. Chapter 1 provides an introduction to the topic, covering background on the zeolites, an account of the development of frameworks and their applications in modern chemistry, and specific examples relating to the novel frameworks described in later chapters. Chapter 2 covers the synthetic and analytical techniques used to prepare and characterise these materials. ' Chapter 3 describes the detailed crystal structures of five entirely novel frameworks based upon nickel salts and bipyridylligands (4,4'-bipyridine (bipy) and 1,4bis( 4-pyridyl)benzene (3RB». Nickel (II) nitrate and 3RB combine under solvothermal conditions to produce a dense material formed of herringbone layers, [Nb(N03M3RBh] (BC160), with no extra-framework voids. The substitution of nickel nitrate for the equivalent sulphate, combined with room temperature diffusion techniques gives rise to an inclined interpenetrated phase of cross-linked dimer chains, [Nb(S04h(3RBh(H20)] • 2(CH30H) • 3(H20) (BC261). This material displays a 49% extra-framework volume, but suffers from an instability to guest loss. The use of bipy in place of 3RB under similar conditions generates a three-dimensional array of Ni-bipy square grids, pillared by sulphate anions, [Ni(S04)(bipYh] • 3(MeOH) • 3(H20) (BC402). The uniform channels running through the infinite lattice impart an extra-framework volume of 50%. However, given the presence of an irremovable impurity in the as-made crystalline phase, this material presents no opportunities to explore its porous applications. The use of microwave solvothermal techniques produces a new crystalline material, a possible precursor for BC402 above based on the same reactants, [{Ni(bipy)(S04h(H20h} {Ni(bipy)(H20)4} • Bipy] • 3(H20) (BC482). The dense crystal structure comprises two species of one-dimensional chain, which stack in alternating layers along with unbound intercalating bipy molecules. The material possesses no void spaces, and will not undergo phase transition to the BC402 structure. Finally, chiral aspartic acid (Asp) is combined with nickel nitrate and 3RB under solvothermal conditions to form an extended analogue of a bipy-based structure, Nb(L-Asph(3RB)· x(3RB) (BC533_3). Despite a 19% extra-framework volume, this material possesses unbound 3RB occupying its channels. Chapter 4 explores two routes toward catalytic heteronuclear rhodium frameworks. (1) Solvothermal doping of rhodium dimers into CU3(btch(H20h (H3btc = 1,3,5-benzenetricarboxylic acid). Catalytic activity toward the hydrogenation of 1-hexene is investigated, and turnover frequency in the doped frameworks reaches 0.15 molhexane/ mol-Rh/hr. (2) Synthesis of rhodium terephthalate paddlewheel units into existing metal carboxylate frameworks. Discrete paddlewheels are produced, and room temperature and solvothermal techniques toward new heteronuclear frameworks are explored. Chapter 5 covers the synthesis of a further five novel frameworks, based upon a (10,3)-a network topology. New materials are synthesized solvothermally from cobalt nitrate, btc, methyl-pyridines and 1,2-propanediol (1,2-pd) as analogues to existing nickel frameworks, producing four-fold and two-fold interpenetrating nets: C03(btch(4picolineM1,2- pd)6 (BC144) and COJ(btch(3-picoline)&(1,2-pdh (BC143) respectively. Further variations on BC143 are explored through the use of alternative pyridines (resulting in the successful synthesis of Nh(btch(3-ethylpyridine)6(1,2-pdh (BC198» and diols, producing C03(btch(3-picolineM1,2-pentanediolh (BC173) and C03(btch(3picoline) 6(1,2-hexanediolh (BC174). The final two frameworks possess channels functionalised by diol alkyl chains, with a subsequent reduction in void volume.

To facilitate eye tracking algorithm development that would benefit from simulation we created an eye tracking simulation software library and Application Programming Interface with reusable components. The main part of this library consists of a simulation core able to accept different geometrical models for the eyes, depiction mechanisms, illumination sources and eye tracking algorithms. The library has support for data generation using these models as partial input. It is also capable of performing eye tracking, including eye model calibration using the generated data and algorithms as input. We describe a selection of methodological techniques and principles for software engineering and exemplify how these can be used to improve functionality and usability of software systems. Finally, we discuss future uses and improvements which could further increase the tool’s usability and engineering qualities.<br>För att underlätta utveckling av eye tracking-algoritmer har vi skapat ett simuleringsverktyg och programmeringsgränssnitt med återanvändbara komponenter. Verktyget består i huvudsak av en kärna, vilken utifrån geometriska modeller för ögon och ljuskällor, mekanismer för optisk projektion och algoritmer genererar eye tracking-data från virtuella scener samt kalibrering av ögonmodeller med algoritmer som tolkar genererat data. Vi beskriver ett urval av formella metoder och principer för mjukvaruutveckling och exemplifierar hur dessa kan användas för att förbättra funktionalitet och användbarhet av mjukvara. Slutligen diskuterar vi framtida användningsområden och förbättringar som ytterligare kan öka verktygets användbarhet och ingenjörsmässighet.

Requirements traceability provides support for many software engineering activities like impact analysis, requirements validation and regression testing. In addition requirements traceability is the recognized component of many software process improvement initiatives. Requirements traceability also helps to control and manage evolution of a software system. This thesis presents a systematic review and a framework for requirements traceability. The systematic review is aimed at presenting fair evaluation of research concerning requirements traceability over the period 1997 – 2007. The systematic review aims at identifying probable gaps in research about requirements traceability and opens new horizons to explore. Moreover, two companies have been interviewed to understand the practice of requirements traceability in industry. After the analysis of industrial interviews these companies have been classified into two categories of traceability users. These categories are high-end traceability users and low-end traceability users. Based on the analysis of systematic review results and industrial interviews, this thesis presents a framework for requirements traceability called ‘Three Level Framework for Requirements Traceability (TLFRT)’. This framework is composed of three levels. The level 0 of this framework focuses on pre-RS traceability where as level 1 and level 2 focuses on post-RS traceability. The level 1 provide traceability for the functional requirements, where as level 2 provide traceability for non-functional requirements. TLFRT provides guidelines to a process that can be tailored to fit the needs of the high-end traceability users and low-end traceability users as well. This framework has been statically validated in two companies. The validation of TLFRT in industry resulted in compilation of lessons learned, which ensures that this theoretical framework could also be used in real industrial environment. Over the last decades there have been many attempts to develop and implement systems with various degrees of diagnostic and prognostic abilities, some successful some not. This master thesis presents a software architecture that is used to implement an on-board diagnostic framework capable of advanced diagnostics and prognostics in industrial vehicles. The presented architecture consists of a set of modules that focuses on performance, scalability and simplicity that fulfills the demands of current and upcoming diagnostic and prognostic techniques.

This thesis addresses the challenges with unit testing of embedded software. Embedded software uses peripheral devices that are not available during testing, which results in higher barriers to use unit testing, compared to normal software. But even with these barriers there are no problems with unit testing of embedded software. The study looks at challenges with unit testing of Energy Micros software library, and solutions to the problems with automated testing of embedded software. Use of automated testing will reduce the number of errors when code is refactored. Use of unit testing will also make it possible to take advantage of agile methods like test-driven development. The main goals for the study is to see if CMock is suitable for generation of mock modules and if testing with mock modules can reduce the number of errors in software.Unity is a test harness that supports the needed assertions for testing of embedded software. CMock is able to automatic generate mock modules, but has a few problems with inline functions and custom types, but it is possible to solve these problems. Even with these problems CMock is able to generate mock modules that is working, and supports the testing of embedded software.An experiment was performed to see if testing of embedded software with mock modules could reduce the number of errors. The result was significant and showed that the number of errors was reduced by using mock modules, compared development without testing. Observations were also done during the experiment, which found some problems with use of mock modules during testing. The experiment was done by undergraduate students in computer science.Use of unit test and mock modules as a substitute for hardware during automated testing on a native computer, it is possible to reduce the numbers of errors and refactor code without breaking the existing functionality.

Human Systems Integration Capstone<br>Approved for public release;distribution is unlimited.<br>In the United States Air Force (USAF), a system is generally thought of in terms of technology; but there are other
types of systems supporting our warfighters. A system is “a group of related parts that move or work together”
(Merriam-Webster, 2014), suggesting that systems can also be a compilation of human activities and interactions. One
such system is the Air Force Medical Service (AFMS). The AFMS has been charged with the delivery of healthcare
for the USAF. It is an organization within which there are many workplaces, and these are prototypical of workplaces
in the USAF. The USAF currently has no framework for developing organizations.
This capstone project took an inside look into the organizational structure of the Keesler Air Force Base’s Base
Operational Medicine Cell (BOMC). By conducting a macroergonomic analysis, I was able to make
recommendations for an effective and fully harmonized organizational design. Human systems integration (HSI)
played a pivotal role in the evaluation of the Keesler BOMC, as Manpower, Personnel, and Training (MPT) are key
drivers in the development of organizations. The results of this analysis lead to the development of BOMC
requirements and subsequently HSI requirements for organizations, or an HSI Framework for Organizations.

dificuldade intrínseca relacionada à captura do
conhecimento do domínio, mas também por causa da falta de
métodos e técnicas apropriados para dar suporte à sua
evolução e desenvolvimento iterativo.
Neste trabalho de tese é proposta a utilização de duas
técnicas complementares para dar suporte a evolução de
frameworks: regras de refactoring e regras de extensão.
A técnica de refactoring foi desenvolvida para restruturar
software de forma a tornar o código mais legível e fácil de
ser reutilizado. Regras da extensão são propostas para
modificar a estrutura de pontos de variação do framework,
possibilitando a adição mais fácil de novas funcionalidades
no design. Ambas as técnicas preservam o comportamento
observável dos programas. Esta propriedade é verificada
formalmente usando-se CCS e técnicas de verificação de
modelo. A abordagem proposta é testada com o auxílio de uma
ferramenta semiautomática, desenvolvida para dar suporte à
aplicação das regras definidas.<br>Framework development is expensive not only because of the
intrinsic difficulty related to the elicitation of domain
knowledge but also because of the lack of methods and
techniques to support its evolution and interactive
development. The present thesis proposes the use of two
complementary techniques to support framework evolution:
refactoring and extension rules. The refactoring technique
has been developed to enable software re-structuring in
a way to produce more readable and reusable code. Extension
rules have been proposed to change the structure of the
framework variation points by allowing the addition of
new design functionalities. Both techniques preserve the
observable behavior of programs. This property is
formally verified in this work by using CCS approach to
model checking. The proposed approach has been tested by
means of a tool specially developed to support the
application of the defined rules.

In many cases, scientific theories can be regarded as organized into hierarchies, with higher levels sometimes called 'paradigms', and lower levels encoding more specific or concrete hypotheses. The first chapter uses hierarchical Bayesian models to show that the assessment of higher level theories may proceed by the same Bayesian principles as the assessment of more specific hypotheses. It thus shows how the evaluation of higher level theories can be evidence-driven, despite claims to the contrary by authors such as Kuhn. The chapter also discusses how hierarchical Bayesian models may help to resolve certain issues for Bayesian philosophy of science, particularly how to model the introduction of new theories. The second chapter discusses the relationship between Inference to the Best Explanation (IBE) and Bayesianism. Van Fraassen has raised the concern that the explanatory considerations in IBE go beyond the Bayesian formalism, making IBE incompatible with Bayesianism. The response so far has been that the explanatory considerations can be accommodated within the Bayesian formalism by stipulating that they should constrain the assignment of the probabilities. I suggest a third alternative, which is that the extra explanatory considerations have their origins in the relationship between higher and lower level theories and can be modeled in Bayesian terms without directly constraining the probabilities. The third chapter discusses an aspect of the debate over scientific realism. The No Miracles argument and the Pessimistic Induction are often seen as the primary arguments for and against scientific realism. Yet recently it has been alleged that both of these arguments commit the base-rate fallacy. Binding appears in logic, programming and concurrency, e.g. it appears in Lambda Calculus, say the λ-abstraction. However, the binding in Lambda Calculus is <i>unary</i>. Certainly, we can generalize the idea of unary binding to an arbitrary finite numbers of binding. Algebraically, we can extend the framework of Universal Algebra and take arbitrary finite bindings as primitives. Therefore, operations in the new extended signature must be of second order instead of first order, and we name them as <i>Binding Operators</i>. The resulting framework is named as a <i>Framework for Binding Operators</i>, which coincides with Shapiro's diminished second order language. With a modification of Aczel's Frege Structure, we derive the algebras for Binding Operators, i.e. <i>eBAs</i>. The usual first order algebras, Plotkin's ω-model of Lambda Calculus, and Girard's qualitative domains turn out to be special cases of eBAs. And also eBAs turn out to be (i) a generalization of Kechris and Moschovakis' <i>suitable class of functionals</i> in Recursion in Higher Types and (ii) a generalized Volken's λ-family. Following Birkhoff, we would like to equationally characterize Binding Operators. Kechris and Moschovakis' Enumeration Theorem suggests that an algebraic characterization of such might be possible. Unfortunately, eBAs and the usual satisfaction models<SUB>eBA</SUB> of <i>Binding Equations</i> over these eBAs, in Birkhoff's approach, do not work. Therefore, we have to find either a <i>remedy</i> for it or a new semantic model for Binding Operators. We will present two solutions, one for each. (a) For a remedy, we discover a condition for Birkhoff's approach to work. This condition is necessary and sufficient, and we call it an <i>admissible</i> condition, which turns out weaker than Plotkin's <i>Logical Relations</i> in the sense that 'logical' implies 'admissible'. An admissible equational calculus vdash<SUB>eBA</SUB> for Bindind Equations is obtained, whichis sound and complete wiyh respect to admissible satisfactionmodels<SUB>eBA</SUB>. The relationship between Completeness and Admissible Completeness (or between satisfaction models<SUB>eBA</SUB> and admissible satisfaction models<SUB>eBA</SUB>) is discussed, although it is not completely clear. Other problems remain open as well, say the closedness of direct products and the admissible variety problem. (b) For a new semantic model, we will give a new binding algebra, i.e. <i>iBA</i>, which is intensional in contrast to the previous (extensional) one. Actually, an iBA is a generalization of Friedman's Prestructures. A sound and complete equational calculus vdash<SUB>iBA</SUB> (in IBAs) is established. However, the derivability of vdash<SUB>iBA</SUB> is weaker than the one of vdash<SUB>eBA</SUB>. In other words, to share a same proof power with vdash<SUB>eBA</SUB>, vdash<SUB>iBA</SUB> has to use axiomatic schemas instead of pure axioms. Thesis (MScEng (Industrial Engineering))--University of Stellenbosch, 2010.<br>ENGLISH SUMMARY: The research documents the development of a conceptual framework, the improbable circumstances strategic (ICS) framework, which guides organisations in the preparation for improbable circumstances.
Four fields include: strategic management, innovation, systems thinking and complexity theories (black swans). The black swan principle was introduced with its applicability to the 2008 economic crisis. The black swan is an event which is retrospective in its predictability, highly improbable and carries extreme impact. There are various principles to cope with black swans which will now play a role in strategic management.
Strategic management is studied from a systems thinking perspective which is a school of thought that strategy is a process which an organisation should follow from analysis, synthesis, implementation through to the operation phase. Some tools applicable to the analysis and synthesis phases were studied to give a greater understanding of the current field of strategic management. Innovation is an underlying principle which supports the strategic process.
Innovation is a field which is currently not playing a large role in the strategy process. The principles of the innovation life cycle, innovation management and open innovation were studied to support the framework as well as create awareness around the advantages thereof within the field strategy.
The dissertation uses aspects of these four fields to form the ICS framework. The framework consists of four phases: the analysis phase; the improbable event creation phase; the fragility analysis phase; and the synthesis phase. The first three phases run parallel with the current analysis phase of strategic management as the ICS framework is not designed to replace the strategic management process, but to add to it. The synthesis phase is where the design of the strategic plan for improbable circumstances takes place. Each phase sets out the inputs, requirements and deliverables needed for the successful implementation of the framework. Some tools for each of the phases are given, but they are given merely as a guideline as different organisations have the infrastructure for different tools. The framework is partially validated by being able to apply various tools to each phase, but the framework’s place in the field of strategy should be validated.
The validation is done through interviews with eight industry experts in the four fields of study discussed. The results show a positive response with a call for future study through implementation, a tracking of the framework through this implementation and critical factors that arise from that.<br>AFRIKAANSE OPSOMMING: Hierdie navorsing beskryf die ontwikkeling van ‘n moontlike raamwerk; die onverwagte omstandigheids strategiese (ICS) raamwerk, wat organisasies met die voorbereiding vir onverwagte gebeure kan help.
Vier areas word beskryf wat insluit: strategiese bestuur, innovasie, stelsels denke en kompleksiteitsteorie(swart swane). Die swart swaan beginsel is gebruik weens die toepasbaarheid daarvan op die ekonomiese krisis van 2008. ‘n Swart swaan is ‘n gebeurtenis wat terugwerkend voorspelbaar is, baie onwaarskynlik en ‘n groot impak het. Daar is verskeie beginsels om swart swane te hanteer wat vorentoe ‘n rol in strategiese bestuur kan speel.
Strategiese bestuur word vanuit ‘n stelsels denke oogpunt bekyk wat strategie as die proses sien wat ‘n organisasie moet volg van analises, saamvoeging en implimentering tot die bedryfsfase. Sommige tegnieke wat op analises en sintese gerig is, is ondersoek om ‘n groter begrip van strategiese bestuur te gee. Innovasie is die onderliggende beginsel wat die strategiese proses ondersteun.
Innovasie speel tans nie ‘n noemenswaardige rol in die strategie proses nie. Beginsels van die innovasie siklus, innovasiebestuur en oop innovasie is ondersoek om die raamwerk te ondersteun asook om ‘n bewuswording van die voordele daarvan in strategie uit te wys.
Hierdie verhandeling bespreek vier fases van die ICS raamwerk: analises; die onverwagte gebeurtenis skepping; kwesbaarheids analises; en sintese fases. Die eerste drie fases word parallel met die bestaande analitiese fases van strategie bestuur as die ICS raamwerk gedoen en is nie ontwerp om die strategie bestuurs proses te vervang nie, maar om daartoe by te dra. consider key IT outsourcing elements to provide the required IT outsourcing or similar services to
its customers to better fulfil its mandate as outlined in the SITA Act and other related legislation.
Design/methodology/approach: The information gathered from various literature sources was
analysed, evaluated and assessed to determine trends, lessons learnt and pitfalls of IT outsourcing,
and IT mergers and acquisitions to develop an IT outsourcing framework and approach.
Findings: The IT outsourcing framework for SITA consists of customer value drivers (motivating
factors), governance model, engagement and supplier management model, and business model as
the key IT outsourcing elements that SITA must consider to successfully provide the required IT
outsourcing or similar services to its customers to improve its credibility.
Research limitations/implications: To extend this research, more work is necessary to assess each
element of the framework to determine specific actions that must be taken to leverage on economies
of scale, improve productivity and IT capability within Government departments.
Practical implications: This framework is intended to provide SITA with guidelines and an
approach that may be used to successfully respond to the customers requests respond to the IT
operations of its customers or to collaborate with the customer in providing its IT outsourcing
services.
Originality/value: This research will contribute towards establishing the best practices for agencies
like SITA to successfully provide IT outsourcing services to Government.

service into web-services, expecting to reach worldwide potential new clients. In fact, nowadays Web Services and Service Oriented Architectures (SOA) are the technological elements most commonly used. However, these are passive elements in the sense they do not perform any action
towards pursuing business interests, which constitute a limiting factor from a business
perspective. Another approach for the above mentioned enterprise is to follow the Multi-Agent Systems (MAS) approach, as the pro-activity is a keyword in such contexts. Nevertheless, as MAS approaches are not so commonly used and not so robust yet, the worldwide potential set of new clients is reduced; which also constitutes an inhibitor factor from the business perspective.
This dissertation proposes a Pro-Active Services Ecosystem Framework, gathering
inspiration from both the SOA and MAS research areas, trying to bridge the business and ICT worlds through the base concepts for the creation of a Services’ Ecosystem where business services are represented in a pro-active manner towards pursuing business interests, like finding
collaboration opportunities or improving the chances each CN member has to see its services selected among competitors, for example. This work also includes a prototype system applied / validated in the area of a Professional Virtual Community of Senior Professionals.

2013<br>The application of software systems in business organizations continue to increase as the Internet technology grows. Business processes that previously required manual interventions are becoming automated using software systems. The use of software systems is fundamental to electronic processing of business transactions. More business organizations, large and small, are utilizing information technology in order to have competitive advantage in the business arena. Software is ubiquitous. Among areas where software plays core roles are e-Banking where software systems are used to process banking transactions, e-Health where software systems are used to facilitate activities in the health sector, e-Commerce where software systems are used to facilitate online business transactions, e-Government where software system are used to facilitate government activities and e-Learning where software systems are used to facilitate the teaching and learning process.
Nevertheless, the large number of failing software projects and the increase in software security problems coupled with shortage of skilled software developers are still major obstacles in the software development industry. Among others, the solution can be achieved by improving the competency of software developers so that software systems developed are of good quality, safe, robust, and support business objectives. Software companies and business organizations stand a big chance to increase their return on investment (ROI), if competencies of software developers are improved. A software developer plays critical roles in software development projects. A software developer, however, requires specific skills and knowledge in order to develop software systems that solve problems and deliver solutions.
This research is about competencies of software developers. The research focuses on software development activities performed by software companies and business organizations within the Western Cape Province. The unit of analysis is software developers. Data pertaining to tasks performed by software developers, tools used by software developers and skills required were collected, examined and analysed. The objective of the research is to develop a competency framework for software developers. It can be used by institutions and the industry to provide better education. Most importantly, the industry will have access to competent software developers who can perform their job well. As justified in this research, knowledge of a competency framework for software developers is extremely essential.ÿ

The circumstances of responding to loss due to human death are among the most stressful experiences encountered in life. Although grief’s symptoms are typically considered essential to their gradual diminishment, possible negative impacts of complications related to grief are also well known, and have been associated with detriments to mental and physical health. Grief, however, can also generate transformative positive change. Thus, albeit ineludible, responding to loss is not uniformly experienced, expressed, or understood. It is also culturally-shaped, making attempts to define “normal” grief, as well as to label some grief “abnormal”—and to medicalize it—possibly problematic. Bereavement (the situation surrounding a death) and mourning (the publicly expressed response to loss due to death) are changing. Some of these changes (e.g., the increase in hospice care settings prior to deaths, and alterations in the ritual responses following all deaths—irrespective of their context) may have important implications for avoiding grief’s possible complications and for promoting its potential benefits. An improved alignment of grief theory, research, and practice is warranted; but theories of grief are diverse, and historically have not been empirically well-supported. This research articulates a new grief model, the loss-processing framework, featuring three dimensional components (perception, orientation, and direction). As a first step toward validation of the framework, also included is an empirical study examining retrospective descriptive reports of adult loss response relating to the first of these three dimensions (perception). As an interpretive, translational approach to understanding grief, the loss-processing framework may serve to positively impact grieving, health, and life quality.

V této práci prozkoumáváme existující algoritmy pro přijímání jazyků definovaných bezkontextovými gramatikami. Na základě těchto znalostí navrhujeme nový model pro reprezentaci LR automatů a s jeho pomocí definujeme nový algoritmus LSCELR. Modifikujeme algoritmy pro přijímání jazyků k vytvoření algoritmů pro překlad založený na překladových gramatikách. Definujeme atributové překladové gramatiky jako rozšířené překladové gramatiky pro definici vztahů mezi vstupními a výstupními symboly překladu. Implementujeme překladový framework ctf založený na gramatikách, který implementuje překlad pomocí LSCELR. Definujeme jazyk pro popis atributových překladových gramatik a implementujeme překladač pro překlad této reprezentace do zdrojového kódu pro implementovaný framework.

Cílem této práce je vytvořit komunikační sběrnici pro platformu Testos, což umožní nástrojům platformy spolu komunikovat a využívat navzájem svoje služby. V textu jsou prozkoum8na současná řešení a protokoly založené na modelu Publish-Subscribe. Dále také práce specifikuje požadavky na komunikační sběrnici vyhovující potřebám platformy Testos a také navrhuje řešení pro splnění daných požadavků. V rámci výzkumu byly prozkoumány tři řešení - MQTT, DDS a AMQP. Průzkum každého řešení byl zaměřen na způsob komunikace a hlavní funkční prvky. Jako startovací bod implementace sběrnice byl vybrán protokol MQTT. Tato práce také specifikuje jak tento protokol rozšířit, aby byly splněny požadavky na sběrnici. Mezi stěžejní rozšíření navrhnuté v rámci této práce patří management životního cyklu požadavků rozšiřující způsob doručování zpráv a mechanismus zasílání požadavků standardu MQTT. Protokol byl také rozšířen o možnost shlukování zpráv do BULK paketu za účelem snížení množství potřebných síťových zdrojů. Výsledkem je Testos Bus, který je postavený na upraveném a rozšířeném protokolu MQTT, který zahrunuje implementaci brokeru a klientských knihoven pro Python a C++. Testos Bus naplňuje všechny povinné požadavky platformy, což ověřují automatické testy.

Background An increasing number of companies in Europe are interested in reshoring the production to their home country. Advantages in other countries, such as low direct wages, do not seem to play the major role anymore. Companies start to reassess their manufacturing location decision and start to see advantages in having production facilities in their home country and closer to the market. Nevertheless, reshoring is a long-term decision and comes with many factors that must be taken into consideration. Purpose The purpose of this thesis is to show learnings from shortcomings of outsourcing and offshoring decisions, so the shortcomings can be avoided when making reshoring decisions. Based on this together with a deep research of the literature, factors to consider when deciding to reshore should be proposed. These factors should be compared to the results of the empirical research to see their validity and if possible, they should be developed and complemented. Method To answer the research questions, a thorough literature review was crafted and a qualitative case study in form of semi-structured interviews with highly experienced employees of different companies in Sweden, Germany and Switzerland was conducted. The companies were picked based on their location, their industry and their experiences with manufacturing location decisions. The collected data was summarized, discussed and analyzed based on common themes. Conclusion After reviewing a vast amount of literature and empirical material concerning the topic of reshoring, the nature of the reshoring decision became a lot clearer. It is a very complex decision which requires the companies to take a close look at many different factors, as shown in figure 2. This framework allows companies to have a better overview of the factors influencing their reshoring decision. Since the reshoring decision itself varies quite substantially depending on the company, it is important that companies adapt these factors to their specific needs. Only when considering this step, a correct decision can be ensured.

Currently, most of HSA hardware and software components are either still in development. It is useful to provide an emulation environment for HSA developers in developing HSA software stacks. In this paper, we introduce the design of HSAemu framework, a full system emulator for the HSA platform, which is based on PQEMU and Multi2Sim. HSAemu framework provides a generic interface, which can integrate different simu-lator and emulator to HSAemu, the component of the framework including HSA runtime, HSA GPU emulator and CPU emulators. In our preliminary experiments, HSAemu framework already passed several benchmarks. It can help developers test-ing a complete HSA software stack and profile system performance.

A framework e os serviços serão desenvolvidos utilizando software TIBCO, como TIBCO ActiveMatrix BusinessWorks™ BPM, TIBCO Enterprise Message Service™ e TIBCO Designer™. Foram aplicados os conhecimentos de arquitetura Service Oriented Architecture (SOA), para uma melhor e mais eficaz framework, em serviços a serem utilizados por sistemas heterogéneos. Os requisitos do banco eram: -Os serviços podem ser síncronos ou assíncronos. -Todos os serviços assíncronos terão de dar uma resposta com o resultado da operação. -Uma manutenção do sistema reduzida e simples. -Uma integração fácil entre os diferentes sistemas do banco.- Baixo índice de bugs por serviço; e facilidade em descobri-los, analisá-los e corrigi-los. A framework é responsável pelo log das atividades dos serviços na camada de integração, pela validação dos cabeçalhos, pelo encaminhamento das mensagens entre as duas camadas que compõem a framework (Business e Technical). Fica ainda responsável pela gestão das mensagens em serviços assíncronos, onde dará uma resposta genérica à origem, informando que a mensagem se encontra a ser processada pela framework, enviando posteriormente outra resposta genérica com o resultado da operação no destino. Durante o desenvolvimento da framework, foi tida em atenção a normalização dos nomes, tanto para target namespace dos schemas, ficheiros, e outros itens que são transversais a toda a framework, bem como as regras para aumento das versões major e minor. Dos vários serviços que utilizaram a framework, pode-se dar o exemplo de um serviço que te tem como origem Customer Relationship Management (CRM) e o destino BankFusion Universal Banking (BFUB). O serviço retornará os vários balanços de uma conta, dando como input o número de uma conta. O serviço é um serviço síncrono que o depois de 60 segundos o serviço retornará um erro de timeout.<br>This project had the objective to develop an Enterprise Application Integration (EAI) Framework for the integration of the various systems in Co-operative Bank in Kenya. The framework and the services will be developed using TIBCO software, such as TIBCO ActiveMatrix BusinessWorks™ BPM, TIBCO Enterprise Message Service™ and TIBCO Designer™. We applied our expertise in Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) architecture, for a better and more effective framework, in those services to be used by heterogeneous systems. The bank's requirements were: -Services can be synchronous or asynchronous. -All asynchronous services will have to respond with the outcome of the operation. -A reduced and simple system maintenance. -An easy integration between different bank systems. -A low “bug” rate per service; and an easiness in finding, analysing and rectifying it. The framework is responsible for logging the service activities on the integration layer, through validation of headers, routing of messages between the two layers the make up the framework (Business and Technical). It will also be responsible for managing the messages in asynchronous services, which will send a generic reply to the origin, informing that the message is being processed by the framework, sending subsequently another generic reply with the result of the operation at the endpoint. During the development of the framework, the normalization of names has been taken into account, for both target namespace of schemas, files and other items that are transversal to the entire framework, as well as the rules to increase the major and minor versions. From the several services that will use the framework, it can give you an example of one service, that as Customer Relationship Management (CRM) from origin and BankFusion Universal Banking (BFUB) as destiny It will return the several balances of an account, giving in the input the account number. The service is a synchronous service, and after 60 seconds it will reply with a timeout error.
