Depuis la première publication du « Roi-Grenouille ou Henri-de-Fer » dans les « Kinder- und Hausmärchen » du 19e siècle, on se heurte à l’aspect érotique du conte, à commencer par la scène de la fontaine, lieu de transition et de promesse. En l’occurrence, on oscille entre une « désexualisation » et une « re-sexualisation » non seulement du texte, mais également de sa représentation picturale. Comment les artistes contemporains ont-ils abordé cet érotisme ancré dans le conte lui-même ? Jadis comme naguère, ils ont trouvé leur propre piste d’interprétation. Ancient carbon reservoirs in freshwater bodies have the potential to introduce ancient carbon into charred cooking residues adhering to pottery wall interiors when aquatic organisms are parts of cooked resource mixes. This ancient carbon results in old apparent ages when these cooking residues are subjected to accelerator mass spectrometry dating, the so-called freshwater reservoir effect (FRE). Roper's (2013) assessment of the FRE on14C ages from cooking residue in the Central Plains is only the second such peer-reviewed regional assessment in eastern North America. Roper suggests that 13 of 2314C ages on residue are too old as a result of ancient carbon from fish or leached from shell temper or old carbon introduced via maize nixtamalization. Herein, we re-assess Roper's data set of14C ages on cooking residues and annual plants and argue that she is mistaken in her assessment of the accuracies of14C ages from residues. This outcome is placed in the context of the larger FRE literature.

Abstract This essay explores reasons and methods for combining historical research in medieval music and postmodern critical theories associated with “new musicology.” I discuss recent historiographie writings by medievalists and theories of intertextuality from literary critics who argue for the conscious integration of present-day frames of reference into interpretations of historical material. Three postmodern themes form my frame of reference: (1) the critique of metanarratives, (2) the constitutive relationships between central and marginal “texts,” and (3) the recognition of plural perspectives and meanings. I show how these themes instigate compelling readings of two treatises—Johannes de Grocheio's De musica (ca. 1300) and Dante's De vulgari ekquentia (ca. 1305)—and some contemporaneous monophonie mensural additions to the chansonnier F-Pn fr. 844 (trouvère MS M, also known as the Manuscrit du roi).

Abstract Purpose A recent systematic review determined that the physiological effects of concussion may persist beyond clinical recovery. Preclinical models suggest that these physiological effects are accompanied by a window of cerebral vulnerability that is associated with risk for subsequent, more severe injury. This study examined the association between persistent diffusion tensor imaging signal following clinical recovery of sport-related concussion and risk of re-injury. Methods Average mean diffusivity (MD) was obtained in a region-of-interest (ROI) in which concussed athletes showed significantly elevated MD acutely after injury (<48 hours), at an asymptomatic timepoint, 7-days post-return to play, and 6 months post-injury relative to controls. The relationship between MD in the identified ROI and risk of sustaining a subsequent concussion over a 1-year period was examined with a binary logistic regression (re-injured, yes/no). Results Eleven of 83 concussed athletes suffered a second concussion within a 1-year period. The relationship between MD at 7-days post return to play and risk of sustaining a secondary injury within 1-year showed a non-significant trend (X2(1)=4.17, p=.057, B=0.03, SE=0.017; Nagelkerke R2=0.16). Mean differences in MD between the repeat injury and non-reinjured group at 7-days post return to play produced a large effect, d=.75. MD in the a priori ROI at the other recovery time points did not predict elevated risk of re-injury. Conclusion These preliminary findings suggest that a large effect size was present in the relationship between persistent diffusion signal abnormalities and risk for subsequent re-injury. This provides support for a window of cerebral vulnerability following concussion, though further examination is needed.

Resumo: Com o objetivo de refletir sobre o que impinge os discursos e os acompanha na dinâmica (re)significação midiática da mulher, esta tese tem como objeto de investigação discursos sobre mulheres políticas, enquanto acontecimentos históricos e midiáticos. Nesse sentido, esta pesquisa, organizada em quatro capítulos, sustenta-se em três eixos de discussões sobre a produção de subjetividades - a memória, o corpo, a territorialidade -, que são constitutivos dos discursos que situam a mulher na história e produzem sua espetacularização na política. Com base nos postulados da Análise do Discurso francesa e, principalmente, sob a ótica dos estudos de Michel Foucault, procuramos investigar como a mídia produz, em diferentes práticas discursivas, um dispositivo de poder que reserva à identidade da mulher política lugares vigiados, presos à esfera da vida privada em sua intersecção com a vida pública. A partir de discussões sobre as identidades na modernidade tardia, analisamos a presença das mulheres na cena política, enquanto lugar de memória e, portanto, de enunciabilidade na longa duração da história. Outrossim focalizamos a visibilidade do corpo feminino em sua articulação com a espetacularização nos discursos sobre mulheres políticas, discutindo como ele intercala um diálogo com a história nos discursos midiatizados sobre a mulher política, e como estes, enquanto dispositivos de poder, constituem uma existência que justifica uma dissimetria entre os sexos, forjando identidades de gênero. À memória e ao corpo acrescenta-se, em nossas análises, a observação de que a territorialidade e o imaginário sobre o Nordeste brasileiro se estendem e se reproduzem nos enunciados sobre mulheres políticas nordestinas a partir de uma regularidade/dispersão de sentidos que conduzem suas identidades a um lugar de pertencimento... Résumé: Avec l'objectif de réfléchir sur ce qui renforce les discours et les accompagne dans la dynamique de la (re)définition médiatique de la femme, cette thèse a pour objet de recherche les discours sur les femmes politiques, en tant que faits historiques et médiatiques. Ainsi, cette recherche organisée en quatre chapitres, s'appuie sur trois axes de discussion, concernant la production de subjectivités - la mémoire, le corps, la territorialité -, qui sont constitutifs des discours qui placent la femme dans l'histoire et produisent sa spectacularisation dans la politique. Sur la base des principes de l'analyse française du discours et en particulier du point de vue des études de Michel Foucault, nous étudierons comment les médias produisent, en diverses pratiques discursives, un dispositif de pouvoir qui réserve à l'identité de la femme politique des lieux gardées, attachées à la sphère de la vie privée dans sa rencontre avec la vie publique. A partir de discussions sur les identités dans la modernité tardive, nous analyserons la présence des femmes sur la scène politique en tant que lieu de mémoire et par conséquent d'énonciation dans la longue durée de l'histoire. La thèse Les hapax de l’Œdipe roi de Sophocle : communication dramatique et réception est une étude qui analyse les 25 hapax absolus de la tragédie de Sophocle. Dans l'introduction on présente les enjeux de la recherche. Préalablement on donne une définition d'hapax et on reprend la théorie sur la composition des noms en grec ancien. Cette partie introductive est complétée par une récapitulation générale des hapax de la pièce, des tableaux qui donnent une vue d'ensemble, une définition de style et le status quaestionis sur la datation de la tragédie. Le premier chapitre, qui constitue la partie centrale de la thèse, contient les analyses de tous les hapax et chaque analyse est précédée par le passage intéressé, en grec et en traduction (Mazon, Sanguineti, Quasimodo, Del Corno, Ciani, Paduano). Dans le deuxième chapitre les hapax sont mis en relation avec quatre champs lexicaux: le cheminement, le divin et le destin, la relation avec la polis, la vision. À partir de ces données on propose des réflexions interprétatives sur la pièce. Le troisième chapitre cherche à investiguer la valeur pragmatique des hapax de l’Œdipe roi. Dans le dernier chapitre on attire l'attention sur les traductions de ces hapax et on en propose, parfois,' des nouvelles. Dans la conclusion on reprend les résultats mis en évidence du point de vue pragmatique et on les ramène à la théorie de la « coopération interprétative ». The thesis Gli hapax dell'Edipo re di Sofoele: comunicazione scenica e ricezione is a study analyzing the 25 hapax of the Sophocle's tragedy. In the introduction the aim of the research is presented. At the beginning, the hapax is defined and the theory of the composition of the ancient Greek names is briefly presented. This introductive part is completed by a general summary about the hapax in the play, and by some tables giving an overview , by a definition of the style, and by the status quaestionis about the date of the tragedy. Chapter one is the core of the work. In this section, the analysis about each hapax is presented. Each analysis is introduced by the relative passage and by its translations. In Chapter two the hapax is linked with four lexical fields: the walking, the divine, the relationship with the polis, the vision. Starting from these results, an interpretative thought about the play is given. Chapter three concerns the pragmatic value of the Oedipus king. The last chapter is focussed on the translations of these hapax, and sometimes, new translations are proposed. In the conclusions, results are summarized, stressing the pragmatic aspects. These aspects are referred to the theory of the "interpretative cooperation". Moreover, a personal interpretation of the Oedipus king is proposed

Œdipe roi de Pier Paolo Pasolini (1967), Hiroshima mon amour d’Alain Resnais (1959) et les textes critiques d’André Bazin se donnent à la fois comme les témoins et les acteurs d’une relation théorique en acte qui se propose de réfléchir à la notion de mimesis dans la modernité cinématographique. Ces trois systèmes sont le fondement d’une interrogation sur la représentation et l’imitation cinématographiques au sein de ce que Jacques Rancière nomme « le régime esthétique de l’art », à partir d’un retour vers ce qui constitue l’essence de la mimesis : les textes de Platon et ceux d’Aristote. Une hypothèse est ici avancée : du cinéma moderne émergerait un paradoxe, celui du double cinématographique, suivant lequel le cinéma serait à la fois présenté comme une duplication, la reproduction parfaite de son modèle, reproduction qui double le monde jusqu’à se confondre avec lui, et comme le double grotesque des corps, ressemblance trompeuse, épuisée, imitation dérisoire d’un modèle. Ce double statut implique que la duplication cinématographique soit régie par une logique du même et de l’autre, de l’identité et de la différence, de la présence et de l’absence. Cette émergence de la mimesis au cœur du cinématographique soustrait la copie cinématographique, le double, à la valeur de l’imitation ontique, saisie comme imitatio, comme action de reproduire ou de chercher à reproduire suivant la logique de l’homoïosis, d’où la nécessité d’étudier les conséquences de l’immersion de ce concept antique dans la notion de modernité cinématographique
Edipo Re by Pier Paolo Pasolini, Hiroshima mon amour by Alain Resnais and reviews by André Bazin are the testimonies of a theory which tackles the problem of mimesis in the ²cinema modernity ²; this modernity has been raised by Gilles Deleuze. Those three systems are the basis of a questioning about the representation and imitation in cinema, within Jacques Rancière calls ² the ‘aesthetic’ form of art², a questioning based on the first texts dealing with mimesis : the works by Plato and Aristotle. Let’s bring forward the following hypothesis : modern cinema has emphasized a paradox entitled ² double cinématographique ², implying that cinema is both a duplication – a perfect reproduction of an original, a reproduction which copies the world to become one and the same thing – and a grotesque replica of a matter, a misleading resemblance, and a derisory imitation of an original. This double status implies that the cinema duplication is ruled by a logic of similarity and difference, a logic of presence and absence. This emergence of mimesis leads to the following awareness : the cinema replica does not only mean reproducing or trying to reproduce according to the homoïosis logic, hence the necessity of studying the consequences of the insertion of this antiquity concept in the "cinema modernity" notion

Vision is organized around material objects; they are most of what we see. But we also see beams of light, depictions, shadows, reflections, etc. These things look like material objects in many ways, but it is still visually obvious that they are not material objects. This chapter articulates some principles that allow us to understand how we see these ‘ephemera’. H.P. Grice’s definition of seeing is standard in many discussions; here I clarify and augment it with a criterion drawn from Fred Dretske. This enables me to re-analyse certain ephemera that have received counter-intuitive treatments in the work of Kendall Walton (photographs), Brian O’Shaughnessy (light), and Roy Sorenson (occlusions).

Reactive oxygen species (ROS) is the collective term for several oxygen containing free radicals, such as hydrogen peroxide. ROS is important in innate immunity, protein folding in the endoplasmic reticulum and as a cell signalling molecule involved in cellular proliferation, survival, differentiation, and gene expression. ROS has been implicated in both hematopoietic stem cell quiescence and hematopoietic differentiation. Consequently, ROS is of considerable interest as a therapeutic target, with both pro-oxidant and anti-oxidant cellular modulation being explored. Recently, it has been established that increased ROS production in acute myeloid leukemia (AML) leads to increased glycolysis and metabolic reprogramming. It is often stated as a key tenet of the Warburg effect, that transformed cells, including AML, show increased aerobic glycolysis accompanied by increased cellular glucose uptake and lactate secretion. This review will summarize ROS state of the art in acute leukemia and how these reactive molecules re-wire metabolism in cancer cells. The review will focus on what are ROS? What are the sources of ROS in hematopoietic cells and their function and how this relates to the Warburg effect and regulation of metabolic pathways in acute leukemias.

Flow characteristics of nitrogen flows in the three different microchannels (hydraulic diameter Dh ranging 30–3000 μm) have been investigated numerically considering of the effect of compressibility and viscosity heating. It indicated that pressure drop at inlet and outlet is nonlinear with Reynolds number. Transition Re is as low as about 1200 for microchannels with Dh = 300 μm. To incompressible flow, Dh, has no effect on friction factor f. However, L/Dh has great effect on f, and f increases with the decrease of L/Dh. It was found from numerical results that fRe can be expressed as a function of Mach number. By compared with the experimental results, the function has been proved right. When pressure drop at inlet and outlet is over 10kPa, the effect of compressibility could not be neglected. This implies that the effect of compressibility in microchannels can be described better by pressure drop at inlet and outlet than Ma, which is in contrast to the practice in the conventional scale. At last, the viscosity heating effect was simply analyzed. It was found that the effect of viscosity heating increases with the increase of Re and decrease of size.

This paper studies the film effectiveness and heat transfer coefficients on a large scale symmetric circular leading edge with three rows of film holes. The film hole configuration focuses on a smaller injection angle of 20° and a larger hole pitch with respect to the hole diameter (P/d = 7.86). The study includes four blowing ratios (M = 1.0, 1.5, 2.0 and 2.5), two Reynolds numbers (Re = 30,000 and 60,000), and two free stream turbulence levels (approximately Tu = 1% and 20% depending on the Reynolds number). The method used to obtain the film cooling effectiveness and the heat transfer coefficient in the experiment is a transient liquid crystal technique. The distributions of film effectiveness and heat transfer coefficient are obtained with spatial resolutions of about 0.6 mm or 13% of the film cooling hole diameter. Results are presented for detailed and spanwise averaged values of film effectiveness and Frössling number. Blowing ratios investigated result in up to 2.8 times the lowest blowing ratio’s film effectiveness. Increasing the Reynolds number from 30,000 to 60,000 results in increasing the effectiveness by up to 55% at high turbulence. Turbulence intensity has up to a 60% attenuation on effectiveness between rows at Re = 30,000. The turbulence intensity has the same order of magnitude but opposite effect as Reynolds number, which also has the same order of magnitude effect as blowing ratio on the film effectiveness. A crossover from attenuation to improved film effectiveness after the second row of film holes is found for the high turbulence case as blowing ratio increases. The blowing ratio of two shows a spatial coupling of the stagnation row of film holes with the second row (21.5°) of film holes which results in the highest film effectiveness and also the highest Frössling numbers.

The hydrodynamics of impingement flow is a key partner of heat transfer analysis of run-out table (ROT) cooling. The long circular free-surface water jets with industrial parameters (e.g. Re = 16,000–50,000) were numerically simulated by laminar and two variants of turbulent k-ε and k-ω models where the effect of gravity is significant. The development of water impingement film was computed and compared with the experimental data which obtained from the ROT facility. The propagation of water flow over the impingement surface is better simulated by Shear Stress transition k-ω (SST) model. The impingement flow features such as jet deceleration before hitting wall and velocity and pressure profiles were compared with short jet data to explore common flow characteristics between the short and long jets. The effect of target surface on retardation of long turbulent liquid jet before incident is pronouncing as jet Reynolds number increased. However, the velocity reduction is not noticeable until where the speed of short jet starts decreasing. In impingement zone, the flow radial velocity varies linearly similar to short liquid jets which gravity effect is neglected. But, the velocity gradient was found higher which shows enhanced heat transfer for a long turbulent water jet. The dimension of impingement zone as an influential region in boiling heat transfer analysis is found smaller respect to the estimation which used in ROT modeling. The effect of local impingement pressure on saturation temperature is found important in stagnation zone which influences the prediction of heat fluxes by boiling heat transfer correlations up to 9%. This has to be considered in ROT modeling where the heat flux can be as high as 10 Mw/m2.

Periodically fully-developed swirling laminar flows in twisted tubes with elliptical cross sections are computationally simulated. The tubes are helically twisted and their geometry is described by the 180° twist ratios y of 3.0, 4.5 and 6.0, and ellipse cross-section aspect ratio of 0.7. Constant-property flow of water (nominal Pr = 3.0) with a Reynolds number range of 10 to 1200 is considered. The analysis quantifies the improvement in the Nusselt number as well as the increase in friction factor in order to map the effective heat transfer enhancement due to the twisted-tube-geometry-induced swirl flows. To this effect, the numerical results are compared with the baseline cases having a twist ratio of y = infinity, or straight elliptical cross-section tubes for which well established correlations are available. Numerical results show that the friction factor and the Nusselt number are a strong function of the twist ratio and the Reynolds number. The increase in fRe and Nu is higher as the twist becomes tighter (lower values of y). For Reynolds numbers below about 100, the heat transfer results do not deviate significantly from the straight-tube values, but at higher values of Re, significant enhancement in heat transfer is evident for all twist ratios considered here. The friction factor and Nusselt number results provided in this paper will help practicing engineers in integrating twisted elliptical tubes in various heat transfer applications.

Abstract Virtual reality (VR) provides a design space consisting of three-dimensional computer images where participants can interact with these images using natural human motions in real time. In the field of engineering design, prototyping and design verification have provided the initial application areas for VR. The research presented in this paper takes the scenario one step further by incorporating free-form deformation techniques and sensitivity analysis into the virtual world such that the designer can easily implement analysis-based shape design of a structural system where stress considerations are important. NURBS-based free-form deformation (NFFD) methods and direct manipulation techniques are used as the interface between the VR interaction and the finite element model. Sensitivity analysis is used to allow the designer to change the design model and immediately view the effects without performing a re-analysis. An engine connecting rod is analyzed to demonstrate how virtual reality techniques can be applied to structural shape design.

Microfluidic particle separation technologies are useful for enriching rare cell populations for academic and clinical purposes. In order to separate particles based on size, deterministic lateral displacement (DLD) arrays are designed assuming that the flow profile between posts is parabolic or shifted parabolic (depending on post geometry). The design process also assumes the shape of the normalized flow profile is speed-invariant. The work presented here shows flow profile shapes vary, in arrays with circular and triangular posts, from this assumption at practical flow rates (10 < Re < 100). The root-mean-square error (RMSE) of this assumption in the circular post arrays peaked at 0.144. The RMSE in the triangular post array peaked at 0.136. Flow development occurred more rapidly in circular post arrays when compared to triangular post arrays. Additionally, the changes in critical bumping diameter (DCB) the DLD design metric used to calculate the size-based separation threshold were examined for 10 different row shift fractions (FRS). These errors correspond to a DCB that varies as much as 11.7% in the circular post arrays and 15.1% in the triangular post arrays.

Oscillating vortex generator jets have been used to control boundary layer separation from the suction side of a low-pressure turbine airfoil. A low Reynolds number (Re = 25,000) case with low free-stream turbulence has been investigated with detailed measurements including profiles of mean and fluctuating velocity and turbulent shear stress. Ensemble averaged profiles are computed for times within the jet pulsing cycle, and integral parameters and local skin friction coefficients are computed from these profiles. The jets are injected into the mainflow at a compound angle through a spanwise row of holes in the suction surface. Preliminary tests showed that the jets were effective over a wide range of frequencies and amplitudes. Detailed tests were conducted with a maximum blowing ratio of 4.7 and a dimensionless oscillation frequency of 0.65. The outward pulse from the jets in each oscillation cycle causes a disturbance to move down the airfoil surface. The leading and trailing edge celerities for the disturbance match those expected for a turbulent spot. The disturbance is followed by a calmed region. Following the calmed region, the boundary layer does separate, but the separation bubble remains very thin. Results are compared to an uncontrolled baseline case in which the boundary layer separated and did not reattach, and a case controlled passively with a rectangular bar on the suction surface. The comparison indicates that losses will be substantially lower with the jets than in the baseline or passively controlled cases.

The film cooling performance downstream of a single row of double-fan-shaped film cooling holes in a flat plate have been investigated by experimental measurements and numerical simulation. The entrance and exit of double-fan-shaped holes are comprised of a lateral expansion of 15° from the original simple cylindrical shape with stream-wise inclination of 45°. The width of the exit face to cylinder diameter ratio is 1.5; the length-to-diameter ratio is 4.24 and the pitch-to-diameter ratio is 3. The experimental method used to obtain the adiabatic film cooling effectiveness values and the heat transfer coefficient is a transient narrow band liquid crystal technique. Both film cooling effectiveness and heat transfer coefficient are measured at three momentum ratios (I = 0.5, 1, 2) at constant Reynolds number (Re = 10000) and free stream turbulence (Tu = 2%). The film cooling effectiveness, heat transfer coefficient and Net Heat Flux Reduction (NHFR) are presented for detailed distribution and span-wise averaged values. Discharge coefficients are also measured in the experiment. A commercial package is used to numerically simulate the flow and heat transfer of double-fan-shaped holes; simple cylindrical holes are also simulated for comparison. Numerical simulation use RNG turbulence model with a standard wall function for near wall region. Experimental and Numerical simulation results show that: 1) the double-fan-shaped holes present higher discharge coefficient than simple cylindrical holes at respective momentum ratio; 2) the numerical simulation film cooling effectiveness results of double-fan-shaped holes accord well with the experimental results; 3) at measured three momentum ratios, the double-fan-shaped holes demonstrate better film cooling performance (higher NHFR) than simple cylindrical holes, better film cooling expansion on span-wise; 4) the best momentum ratio of double-fan-shaped holes is 0.5.

Heat dissipation in modern high-power electronics require high performance cooling, which traditional air-based systems cannot provide. Rather, novel systems using liquids, which have inherently better heat transfer characteristics, must be used. Therefore, these have recently been extensively examined. The present study aims to identify the liquid flow patterns which significantly increase heat transfer, examine them through simulation (transient 2D laminar DNS) and experimentally realize the most promising configuration. Any such flow patterns should target a major inhibitor of heat transfer, namely, the development of the thermal boundary layer. From the literature, it was seen that traveling vortices should meet this demand, due to generation of perpendicular unsteady or periodic flows, and consequently significant disruption of the boundary layer. Traditionally, micro-channels have been widely employed for micro-electronics cooling. However, the generation and persistence of the desired vortices over longer distances, as well as a desired lower pressure drop can be obtained in micro-gaps, which have inherently overall lower wall-fluid friction. The desired vortices can be further enhanced by active methods such as inlet flow pulsation. In the present study, based on numerical simulations (grid-independent and validated against an analytical solution) a suitable micro-gap geometrical configuration was chosen, while the flow rate (Re) and excitation frequency (Strouhal number around the well-known resonance, St = 0.3) with low amplitude, were examined over a wide range. Further examination led to the choice of two methods for vortex generation. The first is a use of bluff bodies as flow obstructers in the micro-gap, whereby vortex shedding (von Karman street) occurs already at low Reynolds numbers (Re>50). A preliminary experimental device was constructed with side and top view capabilities, for flow visualization, as well as the possibility of wall temperature measurement by IR thermography. Preliminary simulations and experiments showed that Vortex shedding onset was only mildly affected in the micro-scale (200 micron obstruction in 600 micron channel), while heat transfer was seen to increase three-fold over obstruction-free gap, with only mild pressure drop increase. The second method has additional advantage of imposed perpendicular flow. The model consists of a row of slot-jets in a micro-gap with cross-flow. Recent experimental and numerical studies employing a similar hybrid cooling scheme, showed significant heat flux dissipation (305 W/cm2). Here too, significant increase of the heat transfer was found, with additional increase associated with flow pulsation. In future experimental work, the intention is to include MEMS based actuators for individual control of the jets’ excitation ability and effective slot width.

Leaks in fuel storage tanks and distribution piping systems have been identified as a mission-critical problem by the Department of Defense and the U.S. Army. Fuel system leaks are often hard to locate and virtually inaccessible for efficient repair because the piping is often installed under a concrete pad or tarmac. Leak repair could cost up to $2,000, and the cost of cleanup and re-mediation for fuel spills can exceed $50,000. In this project an acoustic remote sensing system was installed to monitor an Army heliport refueling system to determine whether it could detect and accurately locate fuel leaks using computer software technolo-gies to distinguish acoustic leakage signatures from normal fuel system operational noise. Demonstration and validation efforts were disadvantaged by the fact that no fuel leaks occurred in the monitored system for the duration of the project. However, the monitoring system did identify several unusual acoustic events within the fueling system and interpret them as indications of intermittent malfunctions of a check valve and a fuel pump. The 30-year ROI is about 6.42. Further work is required before the technology can be fully implemented: its ability to detect fluid leaks must be proven, and the system specifications must be certified through an EPA third party.
