Resumen
This review of literature highlights the efforts teacher educators and researchers have made over the past 18 years to work toward social justice in secondary English language arts (ELA) preservice teacher (PT) education. Drawing on Dantley and Green’s framework for social justice leadership, we highlight the work that teacher educators have engaged in to support secondary ELA PTs in developing (a) indignation/anger for justice through exploring beliefs about students and themselves, (b) a prophetic and historical imagination through broadening understandings about teaching and learning, and (c) accountability to students and communities through university-to-classroom transitions. We close this article by drawing on this framework to honor what we, as a field, have accomplished while acknowledging the efforts that still need to be made in working toward justice in secondary ELA PT education and, ultimately, in the schools and communities in which our PTs teach.

Resumen
This paper makes the case for working at relational depth (Mearns & Cooper 2007) in qualitative work. To establish this case, I trace the roots of psychological methods in qualitative work, and their foundations in the European and American schools of psychology. In particular I describe a split between holistic and elemental approaches, which I believe has done much to undermine the potential of qualitative work. I have also tried to set qualitative work in an appropriate psycho-social context because I feel it can play such a key role in sustaining democratically-based commercial growth and innovation in the UK and elsewhere in these days when consumer choice is as important in deciding our future as any other element of society.

Resumen
When considering digital futures for universities it is the instrumentalising narratives developed by corporate ‘ed-tech’ which often drive the debate. These are narratives which, aligning tightly to marketisation, unbundling and other dominant ideological trends, describe a highly technologised, datafied and surveillant future for teaching. This future is often framed as an imperative, leaving university communities with the sense that a future is being designed for them over which they have relatively little control. This paper describes the theory, methods and outcomes of a project which set out to counter this tendency, using participative, co-design methods within a ‘top down’ policy initiative to envision an alternative future for digital education within our own institution. Our starting point was that universities need to get better at crafting their own, compelling counter-narratives concerning the future of technology in teaching, in order to assert the agency and presence of the academic and student bodies in the face of technological change. In working toward this, we drew on recent thinking in anticipation studies in education and developed an original methodology for participative futures work within universities. The paper reports on the outcomes of this project, and its implications for the sector more generally, arguing that university communities can work to define their own digital futures through an emphasis on collectivity, participation and hope.

Resumen
This article proposes a soft skills framework. Successful employment of IT graduates in the IT industry depends essentially on the level of soft skills. Five soft skills groups are proposed: management, communication, personal effectiveness, strategic management and information management. Each group contains a specific list of skills and competencies that a graduate of the university's IT profession should possess. Indicators were developed to measure the level of soft skills development and a rating scale was proposed. A model for forming and developing the soft skills of future IT professionals has been developed. It includes: target, procedural, substantivemethodological, technological and diagnostic-resultant components. According to the developed model, the stages of formation of "soft skills" for future IT-specialists are grounded: preparatory (formation of communication and management skills), professional (skills of personal efficiency), integral (skills of strategic management, personal efficiency and information management). Content, methods, forms, cloud tools and services are defined for each stage. The effectiveness of the application of blended learning technology, which combines the use of project methodology, forms of individual and group work with the use of cloud tools for the implementation of collective and individual projects, is substantiated. In the course of the pedagogical experiment, soft skills were identified, the effectiveness of the developed model of software development of skills was proved. Soft skills, the level of development of which is most intensively explored, are explored. These are soft skills such as: understanding your own responsibility to the team while working on a project, being able to present the project to investors or your own team, working with colleagues and performing tasks independently, clearly formulating their needs and expectations for the team and the environment, the ability to unite the group and build effective team interaction to solve certain tasks, to form a communication system in the team using answers other cloud services, the ability to plan long-term based on the intermediate goals of the project, the willingness to delegate its authority to other team members, the ability to quickly identify important and minor, solve problems more effectively, more carefully and efficiently handle different tasks.

Resumen
ecopa, the European Consensus-Platform on Alternatives, is an international not-for-profit organisation, based in Belgium and complying with Belgian Law. It is the only quadripartite organisation that promotes the Three Rs at the European level. Ecopa brings together national consensus platforms on alternative methods. Consensus means that all parties concerned are represented, including animal welfare, industry, academia and government. Ecopa currently includes the National Platforms of 14 EU Member States (or future Member States; eight full members, namely, Austria, Belgium, Finland, Germany, The Netherlands, Spain, Switzerland and the UK, and six associate members, being the Czech Republic, Denmark, Italy, Norway, Poland and Sweden). Ecopa also has three working groups, concerned with: a) the 6th Framework Programme of the EC for Research, Technological Development and Demonstration Activities; b) the EC White Paper Strategy for a Future EU Chemicals Policy; and c) the formation of educational programmes on alternative methods within the EU. Ecopa is thus uniquely placed and has huge expertise to offer to the debate around political topics, including the White Paper, the 6th Framework Programme, and the 7th Amendment of the EU Cosmetics Directive. Ecopa should be considered a key stakeholder by the European Commission and Parliament, and it is essential that the views of ecopa are fully incorporated into future legislation. Recently, the ecopa working groups made a strong common statement on the Chemicals Policy White Paper and made a number of recommendations to the Commission based on scientific, practical and realistic grounds. These are to be found on the ecopa Web site ( http://ecopa.tsx.org/ or http://ecopa.vub.ac.be ).

Resumen
The purpose of this study was to understand the lived experiences of Jamaican Expatriate Female C-suite executives in the diaspora of working in Multi-national Companies (MNCs). A further question to be answered was the meaning they derived from their experiences. With little research emerging from the Caribbean about this elite class of professionals, the research intended to expose the challenges faced as an outsider in unfamiliar spaces. Research on other groups have exposed limiting factors to women’s progress in MNCs. Critical Race Theory with a brief mention of Critical Human Geography and Intersectionality are lens applied to critique the experiences of the eight participants. This research mined the extant literature that looked at navigating barriers, disrupting stereotypes and gender diversity in international careers. The method of inquiry applied to this research was existential phenomenology and its utility in getting to the essence of the women’s lived experiences highlighted the glass-border phenomenon. In reflecting on the outcome, this research opens the door for scholars and practitioners alike, to critically assess the expatriate literature and to probe further the complex relationship between international business, the movement of black talent across geographic and culturally diverse boundaries and the challenges encountered. The results of this study illuminated several themes from the participants textural descriptions: (1) Moving from Invisible to Visible – Disrupting Bias; (2) Who am I? – Identity, Gender and Heritage; (3) Renegotiating the Rules of Engagement paired with Re-branding the Role and Authority of Women in Business; (4) Male Sponsorship Leads to Acceptance; (5) Improving Skill and Competency Capital for New Roles; (6) Building and Maintaining Bridges – Network Management.

As a result of the Covid-19 pandemic, the construction industry in Sweden has been forced to accelerate the digitalization process, which has contributed to an increased use of digital tools and teleworking. Previous research in the subject indicates both positive and negative consequences of teleworking and recurring factors are the work environment, communication, knowledge sharing and technology. The study examines how designers at a medium-sized construction company in Sweden are affected within the aspects of efficiency and quality in the transition to telework and whether it is a suitable working method to use permanently in the future or not. To answer the questions in this study, the authors have chosen to use an interview method to examine the experience of telework and a data collection to check the effectiveness and quality. The interview method in the study is a semi-structured interview with five selected designers at the company that participated in this study. The collection of data for the study was given from the company's internal time reporting system, quality documents from the company’s subcontractors and a supplementary survey. The respondents in the study felt that the designers’ efficiency was reduced, which do not correspond with statistical data in the study. The results show that efficiency has increased and the quality of the designers' documents is equivalent in the transition to telework. The authors' assessment after the implementation of the study is that teleworking is a good working method to apply if it is an optional complement for the designers. A permanent transition to teleworking can mean that the designers experience a reduced affiliation to the company, less fellowship with other employees, a more difficult communication and impaired knowledge sharing, which in the long run can affect the efficiency and quality of the designers' documents.

This quantitative survey aims to study managers and employee’s willingness to telework. Isany of the groups particularly driven by digital teleworking and what does it entail for the futureafter the COVID-19 pandemic is over? Willingness is operationalized through Wicks (2002)and Shareena and Shahid (2020) and consists of predicted performance, self-reportedpersonality traits and the home's compatibility with telework. Based on these studies, atheoretical framework was created, which resulted in twelve hypotheses. Through a websurvey, 323 respondents were collected, of which 295 were used in the data analysis whichconsisted of independent t-test (hypothesis testing), one-way ANOVA (analysis of variance)and multiple linear regression analysis. The overall results from the study can be summarizedas follows: A person with a high willingness to telework is generally an employee, older than35 years, with children at home who work in a digital industry. A person with a low willingnessto telework is generally a manager, younger than 35 years, without children at home who workin a non-digitized industry. The study also found that high freedom and variety is an importantfactor for an employee to want to work remotely. The results from the study indicate a sharpincrease in telework in the future for both managers and employees compared to the situationbefore the pandemic. The study thus indicates that COVID-19 is a catalyst for a paradigm shiftregarding telework.

Resumen
In this final chapter of European Pain Management the editors summarize what has been learned from taking stock of the experiences in the 37 countries. There are common issues, such as the need to keep pace with the change in demand as demographics change, the requirements for creating specialty status in pain management, and the need to update and innovate with new methods and new science, and the challenges of working within different policy requirements, especially in regard to the control of medicines. There are examples of innovation in practice in all countries. Finally, we discuss the need for greater planning across Europe in order to innovate novel, sustainable models of the organization and delivery of care.

EPDF and EPUB available Open Access under CC-BY-NC-ND licence. Groups most severely affected by COVID-19 have tended to be those marginalised before the pandemic and are now being largely ignored in developing responses to it. This two-volume set of Rapid Responses explores the urgent need to put co-production and participatory approaches at the heart of responses to the pandemic and demonstrates how policymakers, health and social care practitioners, patients, service users, carers and public contributors can make this happen. The second volume focuses on methods and means of co-producing during a pandemic. It explores a variety of case studies from across the global North and South and addresses the practical considerations of co-producing knowledge both now - at a distance - and in the future when the pandemic is over.

Texto completo
Resumen
Hydrometeorology aims at measuring and understanding the physics, chemistry, energy and water fluxes of the atmosphere, and their coupling with the earth surface environmental parameters. Accurate hydrometeorological records and observations with different timelines are crucial to assess climate evolution and weather forecast. Historical records suggest that the first hydrometeorological observations date back to ca 3500 BC. Reviewing these observations in the light of our modern knowledge of the dynamic of atmospheres is critical as it can reduce the ambiguities associated to understanding major fluctuations or evolutions in the earth climate. Today, the ambiguities in hydrometeorological observations have significantly improved due to the advances in monitoring, modeling, and forecasting of processes related to the land-atmosphere coupling and forcing. Numerical models have been developed to forecast hydrometeorological phenomena in short-, medium- and long-term horizons, ranging from hourly to annual timescales. We provide herein a synthetic review of advances in hydrometeorological observations from their infancy to today. In particular, we discuss the role of hydrometeorological records, observations, and modeling in assessing the amplitude and time-scale for climate change and global warming.

Resumen
Many young people in South America experience repeated conditions of economic, social, and cultural exclusion, with low rates of secondary school completion and high unemployment exposing them to social violence. Yet, they are also the driving force for change in the region; their creativity is a transformative power. This chapter proposes a pedagogical reflection on the learning process and on social and educational participation. Each young person’s individual experiences and the knowledge they acquire in institutions and diverse social contexts are a platform to develop cultural promotion opportunities that produce the conditions to build a future project. Social educators practice one of the social tie professions that help generate bonds with culture, institutions, and other people, whereas educational action relates each young person to common cultural heritage. Social pedagogy faces the challenge and responsibility of creating strategies and cultural transmission methods for all youth, becoming a political action that fosters equality.

Resumen
Rice (Oryza sativa L.) is the staple food of the majority of Indians, and India is both the major producer and consumer of rice. Rice cultivation in India is confronted with diverse agro-climatic conditions, varying soil types, and several biotic and abiotic constraints. Among major fungal diseases of Rice in India, the blast caused by Magnaporthe oryzae is the most devastating disease, with the neck blast being the most destructive form. Most of the blast epidemic areas in India have been identified with a mixture of races blast fungus resulting in the resistance breakdown in a short period. At present, a more significant number of the rice varieties cultivated in India were bred by conventional breeding methods with blast resistance conferred by a single resistance gene. Therefore, the blast disease in India is predominantly addressed by the use of ecologically toxic fungicides. In line with the rest of the world, the Indian scientific community has proven its role by identifying several blast resistance genes and successfully pyramiding multiple blast resistance genes. Despite the wealth of information on resistance genes and the availability of biotechnology tools, not a great number of rice varieties in India harbor multiple resistance genes. In the recent past, a shift in the management of blast disease in India has been witnessed with a greater focus on basic research and modern breeding tools such as marker-assisted selection, marker-assisted backcross breeding, and gene pyramiding.

Resumen
Optical Communication (OC) for data transmission was introduced more than 30 years ago. It employs two main technologies, fiber optics using a physical wire and Free Space Optical (FSO) wireless transmission. Fiber optics has been well developed over the years in terms of distance, bandwidth, speed, reliability, and other enhancements that contribute to its use. Recent developments in FSO transmission has made it the mainstream and a better alternative compared to RF wireless transmission, concerning all parameters. In this chapter, we focus on advancements in OC that represent innovative ideas of how to enable new methods of secured optical data transmission in different ways and not simply as an extension to current methods and technologies.

Texto completo
Resumen
The use of conventional fuels is decreasing globally due to its limited reserves and negative impact on the environment. The associated cost of conventional fuels is increasing owing to the higher demand for conventional fuels. Hence, utilization methods of biomass to generate energy are of growing interest. Among different biomass feedstocks, rice husks, waste plastics, and sawdust are significantly available in the global environment. The annual generation amount of rice husk is approximately 120 million tons worldwide, with an annual energy generation potential of 109 GJ with a heating value of 15 MJ/kg. The gasification process is assumed to be the most effective biomass conversion method that can generate synthetic gas to operate IC engines, fuel cells, and boilers. Synthetic gas production from biomass using a gasification process is a significant source of future energy. Downdraft fixed-bed gasifiers are considered as a feasible option of biomass conversion in the gasification process. By optimizing the operating conditions of downdraft fixed-bed gasifier, such as reaction zone temperature, combustion zone temperature, intake air temperature, airflow rate, the humidity of intake air, a significant amount of synthetic gas can be produced from rice husks, waste plastic material, and sawdust.

Azuma, Hideki. "Is EEG a Useful Examination Tool for Diagnosis of Epilepsy and Comorbid Psychiatric Disorders?" En Epilepsy [Working Title]. IntechOpen, 2020. http://dx.doi.org/10.5772/intechopen.94352.

Texto completo
Resumen
Diagnosis of epilepsy usually involves interviewing the patients and the individuals who witnessed the seizure. An electroencephalogram (EEG) adds useful information for the diagnosis of epilepsy when epileptic abnormalities emerge. EEG exhibits nonlinearity and weak stationarity. Thus, nonlinear EEG analysis may be useful for clinical application. We examined only about English language studies of nonlinear EEG analysis that compared normal EEG and interictal EEG and reported the accuracy. We identified 60 studies from the public data of Andrzejak 2001 and two studies that did not use the data of Andrzejak 2001. Comorbid psychiatric disorders in patients with epilepsy were not reported in nonlinear EEG analysis except for one case series of comorbid psychotic disorders. Using a variety of feature extraction methods and classifier methods, we concluded that the studies that used the data of Andrzejak 2001 played a valuable role in EEG diagnosis of epilepsy. In the future, according to the evolution of artificial intelligence, deep learning, new nonlinear analysis methods, and the EEG association with the rating scale of the quality of life and psychiatric symptoms, we anticipate that EEG diagnosis of epilepsy, seizures, and comorbid psychiatric disorders in patients with epilepsy will be possible.

Resumen
"The role of history in future studies History is one of the fields of human research and has a strong relationship with politics, political studies and future studies. Future studies are considered a new field in effective and developed scientific research and have an essential role in politics since they influence each other. Future research fields are enhanced by taking advantage of other human and scientific research fields or using interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary methods. One of the fields that future researchers cannot disregard is historical research. This research focused on the two different directions: the fields of future research and history, i.e., past events, on the one hand, their future and scenarios on the other. The research seeks to answer some main questions: What is the common ground and relationship between history as a field of human research with future research? What is the function and purpose of both fields? What are their common keywords? Where will history assist the science of future research? The importance of the research is that working on the relationship between history and future science will keep history away from the past. It also makes future studies more realistic in identifying and cooperating with politics, political reform, management, and other aspects of society and choosing a better future among futures ahead of any society and individual. Moreover, historical research and academic centers in Kurdistan have been less likely to apply history as a science to understand the future. The research aims to find common ground and the effective relationships between the two fields of futures and history and link them by analyzing their content, tasks and methods. The research methodology is descriptive-analysis and has benefited from historical and comparative methods to explain the definitions, emergence, and common grounds for both research's variables."

Texto completo
Resumen
The purpose of this panel is to compare the long existing "Brick and Mortar” (BM) universities with the new E-Learning (EL) universities. The comparison is based on the type of people (lecturers, students, teaching assistants), and activities (lecture, lab, seminar, office hours, library usage, one-on-one meeting, working together, testing, etc.) that are involved. In this panel we will not deal with the commercial aspects and prospects of either learning methods. The result of the panel is not necessarily a clear conclusion on which method is better, more likely it will help the participants to consider which method is better in a given situation. For example: if you live in a lone farm in the middle of nowhere then E-Learning is the right solution for you. However, if you want to experiment with chemistry then you better be in a real laboratory.

Resumen
The energy producing power plants are designed for operational period of 20, 30 years. During this period, inspections are realized to investigate the operational capability of the respective components and the plant as a whole, and when the designed time is approaching its limit, the crucial questions are raised with respect to the following possible operation, its safety and risks that stem from the fact that the continuous degradation of material properties occured during the longtime service as a result of service conditions, e.g. high temperatures, fatigue loading etc. The inspection of the boiler and the assessment of its future operational capability should ensure the safe operation and minimazing the failure risks. In comparison with the more sofisticated and much more expensive methods that use numbers of variables that enter the evaluation process of the lifetime exhaustion, or the metallographic non-destructive or even destructive methods that do not result often in a quantitative lifetime assessment, a relatively simple assessment method was used to evaluate the remaining lifetime of the high temperature components. On the basis of accelerated creep test data performed on the degraded materials, the remaining lifetime hours were calculated for the three “safety” situations: 1. “ZERO SAFETY” (neither recommended k = 1, 5 safety coefficient for working stress nor +70deg Celsius increase of working temperature were taken into consideration). 2. “STRESS SAFETY” (1, 5 safety coefficient for working stress and working temperature were taken into consideration). 3. “FULL SAFETY” (1, 5 safety coefficient for working stress and working temperature +70 deg Celsius were taken into consideration). This paper summarizes the results of remaining lifetime calculation for three different cases of steam boilers inspected after longtime service by Skoda Research ltd. Recently. On the basis of performed examination, the results provided the customer the recommendations relating the future safe and reliable operation.

Texto completo
Resumen
In well known conceptual design methods movement based working principles are considered to provide demanded key function of the future mechanism. Acceptable kinematical structures are searched within large number of topological diagrams generated on the base of original mechanism selected in accordance with functional demand. Further filtering of topological diagrams is leaving structures which are satisfactory for structural characteristics and additional functions. For many cases of mechanical design those concept design methods are not providing equal synthesis conditions for all functions, discriminating the rest of functions against the key function. The suggested novel concept design method [1] provides possibility of wide modifications of mechanism and function entities with mandatory dependence between sets of functions and mechanism’ various embodiments and implies application of identical design cycles for different stages of concept design. Some chapters of this method, as main idea, unified synthesis tools, modeling in concept design, graph and matrix based formalization of functions and mechanisms were presented in the earlier publications [2, 3]. Current study aims to formalize the concept design method itself, which facilitates presentation of the suggested design method and enables its formalized comparison with existing ones. Examples of product concept design are considered and resolved by existing methods and by the novel one, thus making obvious feature and performance efficiency evaluation.

En ASME 2015 International Mechanical Engineering Congress and Exposition. American Society of Mechanical Engineers, 2015. http://dx.doi.org/10.1115/imece2015-51024.

Texto completo
Resumen
Within industry there is an established need for enhanced virtual tools and methods to improve product tolerance setting and conditions for successful manufacturing of non-rigid assemblies. A significant amount of research has been performed in the area, but there is still a need to find efficient working methods and the right preconditions in practice. This paper reports experiences and findings made during recently performed virtual matching and trimming of sheet metals in a real automotive industrial setting. A case is presented, demonstrating the possible use of the Computer Aided Tolerance (CAT) tool RD&T, (Robust Design & Tolerancing), in order to predict the geometric behavior of non-rigid parts when assembled. Scanned parts are used as input and the analysis is performed using the described virtual platform instead of physical type-bound rigging equipment traditionally used for conflict, gap and final springback analysis. The proposed working procedure, and the reasons behind it, are presented. The need of additional radical and incremental innovations is brought into light, in order to make earlier predictions in the product realization process. Furthermore, it is discussed whether the necessary changes in working procedures can impose innovation barriers in the future.

Resumen
The combined diesel-electric and gas turbine (CODLAG) plant is a new type of ship power plant combining the advantages of electric propulsion system and mechanical propulsion system. The requires about ship power grid is lower than full electric propulsion mode, at the same time it can gain the quiet of electric propulsion in the low working conditions and increase the mobility of the ship in the high working conditions. Unlike traditional mechanical propulsion methods and forward-looking all-electric propulsion methods, the CODLAG plant has a coupling between mechanical propulsion and electric propulsion mode. The cooperative working characteristics of two different nature systems is still need further research. For the in-depth research of CODLAG device’s characters, this study built a simulation model of CODLAG device based on Matlab/Simulink and C/C++ platform. A kind of torque-shaft speed double closed-loop control strategy based on PID was used on the CODLAG device. And the typical work condition of CODLAG, including merging, merging off and variable work condition, was simulated in this study. Through the simulation, the dynamic response of main parameters at typical condition have been got. Then, characters of CODLAG device with CPP was simulated at variable condition. And the thrust response was compared with FPP’s. Through comparative analysis, the effectiveness of integrated simulation method specifying to CODLAG device was verified, and some useful conference was provided for the future research.

Texto completo
Resumen
Abstract One unique facet of digital technology is the merging of separate technologies for new workflows and products. Like other industries, energy is also doing this. This project will automate the bit inspection process and this system will reduce labor costs, increase product quality, and improve bit performance. The innovation center is working on various aspects of the project, which aims to join automation technologies with robotic capabilities. Industrial robots are used extensively in traditional high-volume manufacturing applications. The high-mix, low-volume nature of oil and gas manufacturing operations has impeded deployment of automation solutions. Recent advances in sensors, computers, and machine learning now enable integrating robotics and automation technologies into these flexible manufacturing workflows. Driven by digital transformation, an automated inspection system for polycrystalline diamond compact (PDC) drill bits has been developed. The system uses high-resolution robotic 3D scanning, 2D imaging, and artificial intelligence to improve inspection efficiency and product quality. In our user-experience- (UX-) focused approach, we streamlined the user interface (UI) research methods to develop the robotic inspection UI and successfully tested the design with end users. This paper introduces the inspection system and improved workflows for the PDC bits, illustrates the innovative UX/UI development process, and targeted evaluation with the end users, which is crucial before deploying the system in production. We also concluded with some recommended improvements to guide future work.

Texto completo
Resumen
Aero engine component design and development makes increasing use of computer codes for flow field calculations, such as two- or three-dimensional flow fields and flow fields with strong viscous effects. The accuracy of these calculation methods depends on the mathematical models and numerical schemes used to describe the physical reality. The proof of validity and the refinement of such methods depend on verification against relevant test cases, primarily experimental test cases. The AGARD Propulsion and Energetics Panel established Working Group 18 to specify relevant reference test cases to serve as validation bases for new methods, but also as check for existing production codes. The present paper gives an overview on the results of the Working Group and briefly describes the different test cases. These test cases refer to analytical and experimental test cases for steady flow in linear compressor and turbine cascades, single blade rows, single and multistage axial compressors and turbines and ducts. In addition, suggestions for future tests designed to reduce the limitations are discussed.

Resumen
The commercialization of ceramic components for structural applications are continuing gradually, but not as quickly as expected. One of the obvious reasons is that a worldwide, common set of standard methods to compare and assure the ceramic component quality does not exist. In order to solve this problem, Japan has set up cooperative activities industrial standards for the structural ceramics among the government, academia and industry. As of 1992, 16 methods of the standard testing procedure had been settled. However, further work is needed, as at least another 203 standards are required. The following topics will be reviewed. 1. The relevant organizations, their task functions, and how they are co-working with each other. 2. Schedule of standardization settlement. 3. General steps involved in finishing a standard test method. 4. Present view on utilizing properties measured by standard methods of Japanese industry. 5. Future tasks to be solved.

Resumen
Innovation has been shown to be a key factor in determining a country’s competitiveness and economic growth potential. Through investments in education and research and development, many developing countries have tried to avoid the “middle income trap” of stagnation by working to create high-value employment opportunities. To better understand country-level readiness to innovate, we have compiled a set of publicly available data indicators and created a data tool to illustrate innovation capabilities and infrastructure by country. Our approach builds on and advances existing national innovation metrics by constructing transparent, publicly sourced indicators that emphasize changes over time and interrelationships between different indicators, as opposed to creating simple indices across groups of indicators. This occasional paper is targeted to an applied audience, explaining the methods used to assemble the data, an overview of the indicators, practical applications of the data, summary statistics, and data limitations. The data are not intended to be a tool for providing answers about innovation, but rather a starting point for future work including market landscaping, country-level diagnostics, and qualitative protocols for research.

targeting rural NEETs. In my opinion, this is the most outstanding contribution of this manual, and also an original one, considering that to date no other efforts have been made with the intention of developing a grid of how to describe interventions dealing with rural NEETs. This manual offers, therefore, valuable contributions for upcoming research efforts within and beyond RNYN, including: (a) a complete methodological framework for future case stu-dies; (b) practical tools to conduct field research than can be combined with many different methodological approaches (qualitative, mixed-methods, etc.); and, (c) strategic criteria for conducting research in complex settings such as community-based programs. In addition, this manual sets the necessary conditions to present evidence-based conclusions about programs targeting rural NEETs, further aiding policy-makers to opt for solutions that clearly produce better results. This manual would not have been possible without the efforts and best knowledge from its editorial team. Therefore, as the Chair of RNYN, but also in a more personal note, I would like to thank Claudia Petrescu, Emre Erdogan and Paul Flynn for the impeccable and rigorous way in which they conducted all the process. I would also like to thank the Working Group 2 mem-bers traversing many countries who contributed to this document.
