Resumen
Abstract The effect of female job titles on the credibility of medical specialists Speakers of Dutch as spoken in the Netherlands often use masculine job titles for female professionals. We tested the influence of gender(in)congruent job titles on the credibility of medical specialists in Dutch as spoken in the Netherlands. More specifically, we investigated whether the credibility of female medical specialists is boosted by referring to them with a masculine job title (e.g., neuroloog ‘neurologist (masc.)’) as opposed to a feminine job title (e.g., neurologe ‘neurologist (fem.)’). We also tested if this effect is moderated by participant gender. We constructed three news articles in which a medical specialist – either a neurologist, oncologist or a surgeon – shared their opinion on a health topic. The medical specialist was referred to by either the masculine or the feminine job title, thereby being incongruent or congruent with the female medical specialist’s actual gender, respectively. After having read the article, participants had to rate the medical specialist on several dimensions, based on which we calculated the health professional’s perceived credibility. The results of this study showed a significant difference between female and male participants regarding the influence of gender(in)congruent job titles on the credibility of medical specialists. Women perceived male and female medical specialists as equally credible, regardless of their job titles. Men, on the other hand, evaluated the credibility of female medical specialists to be lower when they were referred to with a masculine job title. Gender congruent job titles thus increase female medical specialists’ credibility from the perspective of men.

Resumen
Purpose Transgender sex offenders are a small, complex and atypical group. The purpose of this paper is to highlight the issues in relationship to the assessment of gender dysphoria in transgender sex offenders and approaches to risk management. Design/methodology/approach Clinical and research experience as a Gender Specialist and Consultant Forensic Psychiatrist who has managed sex offender populations has informed this publication. Findings Little is known about the relationship between gender dysphoria and criminality. More research is required to develop a typology of transgender sex offenders and develop actuarial risk instruments. Protective factors in relation to gender affirmative care are also important to understand. Research limitations/implications There is little empirical research to guide gender specialists and criminal justice professionals in the management of gender dysphoria and address risk and recidivism in transgender offender populations. The treatment of gender dysphoria could result in improved well-being and better psychosocial adjustment but cannot be relied to reduce future recidivism. Practical implications There is no evidence that treatment of gender dysphoria reduces risk and recidivism in transgender sex offenders and that research is required to identify specific gender related dynamic risk factors. Social implications Recommendations are directly relevant to the work of prison and probation staff, community supervisors and gender identity specialists. Originality/value As far as the author is aware it is the first paper on the assessment and management of gender diverse sex offenders integrating approaches to gender dysphoria assessment and treatment and risk management. It has implication for gender identity specialists, criminal justice professionals, research and policy.

Resumen
ObjectiveThis study examined the distribution of the sexes across Australian medical procedural specialties in 2017 and investigated the proportion of currently registered female specialists based on their graduation date from 1969 to 2008. MethodsA cross-sectional analysis of current Australian procedural and surgical specialists registered with the Australian Health Practitioner Registration Agency as of January 2017 was undertaken. Participants included 4851 surgical specialists (594 female, 4257 male) and 14948 specialists in specialties with high levels of procedural clinical work (4418 female, 10530 male). The number of male and female specialists across each procedural specialty and the medical school graduation date of current female specialists were analysed. ResultsIn 2017, female fellows represented only one in 10 surgeons and three in 10 procedural specialists. All surgical specialties are underrepresented by female specialists. Cardiology is least represented by female practitioners (one in 10), followed by intensive care and ophthalmology (two in 10). General surgery, otolaryngology and urology saw more female specialists with graduation dates between 1983 and 2003 compared with the other surgical specialties. ConclusionThe number of female practitioners registered as specialists is increasing, but they continue to be underrepresented at specialist level across many procedural and surgical specialties. What is known about the topic?Although the number of female students entering medical school now outnumbers that of males, female practitioners remain underrepresented at the specialist level. What does this paper add?Surgery continues to be underrepresented by female specialists, but general surgery, otolaryngology and urology have shown increases in females reaching specialist level. All procedural specialties have shown increasing numbers of female practitioners reaching the specialist level. What are the implications for practitioners? All surgical specialties and nearly all procedural specialties need to adopt evidence-based practices to make their training programs both appealing and sustainable to female trainees in order to work towards achieving gender parity.

Resumen
The article highlights the urgency of the problem of training engineering and technical professionals, taking into account the development of technology and social challenges of the market economy. Emphasis is placed on the need to ensure gender equality in the choice of engineering professions, equal opportunities for men and women. The essence of the concepts: “gender”, “gender pedagogy”, “gender culture”, “gender socialization”, “gender stereotypes”, “gender competence”, “gender education”, “gender inequality”, “gender roles” and others are substantiated. It is determined that gender studies are of great interest for pedagogical and psychological science, as they relate to the gender-role socialization of a person, his/her personal and professional development. The results of an empirical study on gender stereotypes in occupational choice among students of Ivano-Frankivsk National Technical University of Oil and Gas are presented (110 people took part in the survey). It has been revealed that gender is not the prerogative of many young people in engineering profession choice, however, such stereotypes still exist in the society. It was proven that for future professionals in this field, gender discrimination took place in their lives (28.4% of respondents) and it is mostly female who acquire technical professions. One third of students (32%) admitted that they had faced cases of unequal wages to men and women. It has been proven that negative gender stereotypes are more subjective than objective, which gives hope for a fundamental possibility of overcoming them in the training of specialists at the Technical University.

Resumen
I assess the extent to which the gender gap in physician earnings may be driven by physicians’ preference for referring to specialists of the same gender. Analyzing administrative data on 100 million Medicare patient referrals, I provide robust evidence that doctors refer more to specialists of their own gender. I show that biased referrals are predominantly driven by physicians’ decisions rather than by endogenous sorting of physicians or patients. Because most referring doctors are male, the net impact of same-gender bias by both male and female doctors generates lower demand for female relative to male specialists, pointing to a positive externality for increased female participation in medicine. Context. Studies about knowledge of emergency management of traumatic dental injuries (TDIs) which affect children by general dental practitioners (GDPs) and specialists in Saudi Arabia are lacking. Aim. The aim of this cross-sectional study was to assess the knowledge level of GDPs and specialists about TDI emergency management and its relation with demographic variables in Qassim region, Saudi Arabia. Materials and Methods. A random sample of 239 GDPs and specialists was given a two-part questionnaire; the first part included demographic questions and the second part included questions related to knowledge of emergency management of luxation (intrusion and extrusion), complicated crown fracture, and avulsion injuries. Data was statistically analyzed using chi-square and ordinal logistic regression tests. The significance was set at P<0.05. Results. The mean knowledge score was 5.57 for GDPs and 6.69 for specialists (out of 12). A significant difference was observed between both groups in the management of avulsion injury. Three factors significantly improved the dentists’ knowledge: gender (female), practice type (specialist), and previous experience of encountered TDIs (P<0.05). Conclusions. GDPs and specialists in Qassim region had moderate knowledge of emergency management of TDIs. Specialists were significantly more knowledgeable than GDPs in the management of avulsion injury when compared to the rest of the injuries.

Resumen
This research deals with the issue of diagnosing the readiness of social services workers to implement gender-sensitive approach to working with offence-prone juveniles. As a subject of such diagnosis, we have determined a corresponding professional readiness – social service specialist’s theoretical and instrumental mastery of a sum of methods, means and techniques, and also offence-prone juvenile resocialization algorithms that are based on gender-sensitive approach. Criterion basis for researching the readiness state of social services specialists for gender-sensitive activities with offence-prone juveniles (motivation criterion: aiming towards success in the profession; ability to implement professional aims, notably to work with juvenile offenders; cognitive criterion: knowledge of legal and regulatory framework of Ukraine, primarily international documents that protect the rights of orphaned children and children deprived of parental care, notably the juvenile offenders, which were ratified by Ukraine; knowledge regarding non-discriminatory approach to social work with offence-prone juveniles; theoretical and practical knowledge and abilities, which are necessary during resocialization of juveniles based on gender-sensitive approach; operation-activity criterion: ability to analyze, predict, develop and carry out social projects and technologies aimed at social-pedagogical accompaniment based on gender-sensitive approach; ability to carry out social-pedagogical accompaniment of juveniles, taking into account non-discriminatory approach) was justified. The result of diagnostics that was carried out for social services specialists shows mostly medium and low levels of readiness practically by all indexes, “blind spots” and contemporary challenges of such preparation were defined. It was proven that such preparation must be based on pervasive approach and the concept of constant professional growth, raising qualification and life-long education. Despite the socio-political, ethical and business case for female board membership, women remain underrepresented in company boards. Using theories that support the membership of women on boards, this article presents the case for gender diversity in the boardroom. By employing a sample of 506 directors from 56 JSE-listed mining companies this article reports on the demographic characteristics, percentage of women in mining boards, and attributes that are predictive of women’s membership on boards. Results show that women serving on mining boards possess specialised knowledge in combination with advanced education. They either bring external support as outsiders, or are support specialists with financial, legal, arts and economics backgrounds. This study recommends the development of a talent management framework of women directors focused on their recruitment, development and retention.

This paper deals with analysis of gender issues in an ethnic religious system in Western China, the religion of the Tu ethnic group. We focused on gender in Tu religion, which entailed documenting gender dynamics in three major ethnographic domains that have been present in religious systems around the world and through time: spirit beliefs, rituals, and specialists. Though examined gender dynamics as they occur among the Tu in all three of these niches, we found that in the Tu spirit world, there are major male and female spirits who are viewed as having equal status and equal power over the weather. However, in the domain of ritual specialists, the gender situation changes. As for gender-differentiation in rituals, we found practices that excluded women from entering temples and from participating in public emergency rituals associated with weather crises. In addition, we have attempted to identify the multiple causal factors that that may have affected the evolution of Tu.

Resumen
Gender stereotypes have determined that the concepts of management and leadership are more associated with men than women. There are more men working in management positions than women in various countries, including Lithuania. The most widely discussed cause for that is discrimination against women in the labor market. The aim of the study was to examine evaluation differences between personnel specialists and comparison group, depending on their own and candidate‘s gender. Study was based on quasi-experimental strategy which included a hiring simulation. Participants had to evaluate potential candidates, a man and a woman, seeking for a job in management position. Data was collected from 128 people (age range - 19 to 56 years): 48 personnel specialists (M=29,38; SD=7,48), 49 women, who represented other specialties (M=26,29; SD=7,36) and 31 men, who represented other specialties (M=25,39; SD=5,05). Both personnel specialists and comparison group evaluated man and woman-candidate as similar. There were no significant differences between the two candidates on their hireability, reliability, competence, potential salary and promotability. However, results also indicate that personnel specialists and women, representing other specialties, suggested that man was more capable to work in teams than woman. The study gives an insight about the possibility of gender stereotype change.

Resumen
Hypothetical clinical cases were used to investigate transfusion-related decision-making. Three red cell, three fresh frozen plasma (FFP) and three albumin transfusion decision cases were administered by questionnaire to 228 medical staff. The transfusion decision triggers were identified and comparisons made between resident and specialist groups and between Melbourne and Sydney participants. Factors important in red cell transfusion decisions included haemoglobin, symptoms of anaemia, presence of co-morbidities or surgery, gender, period of hospitalisation and the degree of documented blood loss. FFP administration was influenced by an abnormal coagulation test, the presence of co-morbidities and by the number of red cell units transfused. The administration of albumin, concentrated or 5% SPPS, was influenced by the period of hospitalisation and clinical circumstances such as a falling urine output postoperatively, and by the presence of hypotensive complications. Different transfusion responses were noted: resident staff transfused red cells and FFP earlier than specialists; Sydney specialists were more conservative of red cell transfusion; Melbourne specialists more conservative of FFP administration and surgeons were four times more likely to transfuse patients than physicians or anesthetists at certain haemoglobin values.

Resumen
Gender mainstreaming (GM) is a strategy used by governments to promote gender equality. It entails integrating gender and intersectional considerations into all aspects of policy work, including policy formulation, implementation, and evaluation. However, its success in achieving gender equality and social transformation has been limited. Drawing on implementation research and narrative analysis, this article explores the micro-level dynamics and the local actors that help shape the character and outcome of gender mainstreaming. Using narrative analysis, we explore how GM specialists within the Canadian public service make sense of their role, and we identify the strategies they use to make gender matter in policy work. By examining their stories of isolation, disempowerment, and resistance, we uncover the administrative and political forces that shape not only the “space” for gender work but also the opportunities for individual activism and resistance. These stories convey how, by engaging in these micro-level strategies, GM specialists both challenge and reinscribe, at the macro level, technocratic representations of GM and of policy work in general. We conclude with some reflections on the insights that micro-level analysis and implementation research can bring to the study of gender mainstreaming.

Resumen
In this review, we introduce the topic of transgender medicine, aimed at the non-specialist clinician working in the UK. Appropriate terminology is provided alongside practical advice on how to appropriately care for transgender people. We offer a brief theoretical discussion on transgenderism and consider how it relates to broader understandings of both gender and disease. In respect to epidemiology, while it is difficult to assess the exact size of the transgender population in the UK, population surveys suggest a prevalence of between 0.2 and 0.6% in adults, with rates of referrals to gender identity clinics in the UK increasing yearly. We outline the legal framework that protects the rights of transgender people, showing that is not legal for physicians to deny transgender people access to services based on their personal beliefs. Being transgender is often, although not always, associated with gender dysphoria, a potentially disabling condition in which the discordance between a person’s natal sex (that assigned to them at birth) and gender identity results in distress, with high associated rates of self-harm, suicidality and functional impairment. We show that gender reassignment can be a safe and effective treatment for gender dysphoria with counselling, exogenous hormones and surgery being the mainstay of treatment. The role of the general practitioner in the management of transgender patients is discussed and we consider whether hormone therapy should be initiated in primary care in the absence of specialist advice, as is suggested by recent General Medical Council guidance.

Resumen
Advertising is a worldwide phenomenon nowadays that has gained the attention and interest of a large number of individuals in different societies around the world. Advertising is not only an “ideal tool” for reaching people economically, but also a device of attaining and maintaining contact with people socially, culturally, politically and even psychologically. As men and women perceive various social phenomena and often react to certain situations in quite distinct ways, it is also vividly expressed in the ways they perceive the effectiveness of advertising language. This is also conditioned by the fact that men and women create different imagery from the advertisements they see. This confirms the fact that ad specialists should analyze how they choose the target viewers and what language they should use to focus on them. Thus, gender is one of the main segmentation variables for the advertiser, and a significant factor that makes it interesting to advance the study of how gender differences are manifested in the language of advertisements.

Resumen
The article presents the essence and ways of the gender aspect of social development of future specialists in the socionomic sphere. Several legislative documents on the establishment of gender equality adopted at the state level in Ukraine are analyzed. The necessity of developing the gender aspect of specialists in the socionomic sphere is substantiated. Analyzed components: «gender» (one of the basic components of the social structure of society), «sociality» (acquired in the course of human life in society supra-individual structure of his personality), «hidden curriculum» (what is latently broadcast to students in parallel with the official curriculum). The components of the development of the gender component of human sociality (cognitive, value, emotional-personal activity-behavioural), which are formed based on the social experience of the individual, values of gender equality, subjectivity in gender construction, gender sensitivity, gender tolerance, empathy behavioural strategies. Theoretical provisions for the development of a safe and healthy educational environment are outlined. It is established that in practice the development of the gender component of the sociality of students of socionic specialities in the conditions of pedagogical higher education establishment becomes possible through the implementation of the following areas of work: organization of meetings with representatives of units concerned with prevention and prevention of discrimination; updating of programs and material of initial disciplines taking into account the leading principles of gender-sensitive approach; introduction of certain topics on gender issues into the educational process; promoting the self-education of student youth on the implementation of gender policy; creation of gender promotion centres in higher education institutions.

Resumen
Abstract Background and Aims Measuring quality of care [QoC] in inflammatory bowel diseases [IBD] has become increasingly important, yet complex assessment of QoC from the patients’ perspective is rare. We evaluated perceived QoC using the Quality of Care Through the Patient’s Eyes—IBD [QUOTE-IBD] questionnaire, and investigated associations between QoC, disease phenotype, work productivity, and health-related quality of life [HRQoL] in a high-volume IBD centre. Methods Consecutive patients attending McGill University Health Centre [MUHC]–IBD Centre completed the QUOTE-IBD, Short Inflammatory Bowel Disease Questionnaire [SIBDQ], IBD-Control, and Work Productivity and Activity Impairment [WPAI] questionnaires. The QUOTE-IBD comprises 23 questions, each rated by a quality impact [QI] score. QI scores were calculated for the evaluation of IBD specialists, general practitioners [GPs], and hospital care. Results In all, 525 patients completed the questionnaire. Total QI scores for IBD specialists, GPs, and hospital care were 8.57, 8.70, and 8.33, respectively. The lowest QI scores were related to ‘accessibility’ for both IBD specialists and GPs. Female gender, current disease activity, poor HRQoL [SIBDQ score ≤50], and poor disease control [IBD-Control score <13] were associated with lower mean QI scores [p <0.001 for all]. Disease phenotype was not associated with QI scores in either Crohn’s disease [CD] or ulcerative colitis [UC] [p = 0.69, p = 0.791, respectively]. An inverse correlation was found between total QI scores and work productivity loss [IBD specialist: p <0.001; GP: p = 0.004]. Conclusions Overall patient satisfaction with QoC was good; however, improving patient accessibility to care is warranted. Disease phenotype was not associated with patient satisfaction, whereas female gender, current disease activity, HRQoL, and work productivity loss were associated with patients’ quality assessment, underlining that perceived QoC could be partly subjective regarding disease control and quality of life.

Resumen
ObjectivesTo estimate the gender gap in hourly wages earned by medical specialists in their main jobs after controlling for age, number of hours worked and medical specialty.DesignObservational using governmental administrative and survey data.SettingNew Zealand public employed medical workforce.Participants3510 medical specialists who were employed for wages or a salary in a medical capacity by a New Zealand district health board (DHB) at the time of the March 2013 census, whose census responses on hours worked were complete and can be matched to tax records of earnings to construct hourly earnings.Main outcome measuresHourly earnings in the DHB job calculated from usual weekly hours worked reported in the census and wage or salary earnings paid in the month recorded in administrative tax data.ResultsIn their DHB employment, female specialists earned on average 12.5% lower hourly wages than their male counterparts of the same age, in the same specialty, who work the same number of hours (95% CI 9.9% to 15.1%). Adding controls for a wide range of personal and work characteristics decreased the estimated gap only slightly to 11.2% (95% CI 8.6% to 13.8%). At most, 4.5 percentage points can be explained by gender differences in experience at the same age.ConclusionsMale specialists earn a large and statistically significant premium over their female colleagues. Age, specialty and hours of work do not appear to drive these wage gaps. These findings suggest that employment agreements that specify minimum wages for each level of experience, and progression through these levels, are insufficient to eliminate gender wage gaps between similar men and women with the same experience.

Resumen
AbstractMigraine is considered mostly a woman’s complaint, even if it affects also men. Epidemiological data show a higher incidence of the disease in women, starting from puberty throughout life. The sex-related differences of migraine hold clinical relevance too. The frequency, duration, and disability of attacks tend to be higher in women. Because of this, probably, they also consult specialists more frequently and take more prescription drugs than men. Different mechanisms have been evaluated to explain these differences. Hormonal milieu and its modulation of neuronal and vascular reactivity is probably one of the most important aspects. Estrogens and progesterone regulate a host of biological functions through two mechanisms: nongenomic and genomic. They influence several neuromediators and neurotransmitters, and they may cause functional and structural differences in several brain regions, involved in migraine pathogenesis. In addition to their central action, sex hormones exert rapid modulation of vascular tone. The resulting specific sex phenotype should be considered during clinical management and experimental studies.

Today the issue of ensuring gender equality in Ukraine is becoming more and more relevant. The implementation of the principle of equal rights and opportunities at all levels of social life is a necessary precondition for the formation in the state of a civilized, parity society and its integration into the European educational space. Therefore, the main task, that the scientific community now solves, is the creation of a better world for all people, in which there will be no place for any inequality: class, gender, racial or ethnic. In this aspect, fundamental changes in the content of theoretical and methodological approaches in education are naturally occurring, purposes of teaching and upbringing of youth are outlined in a new way. Resumen
Public procurement is a strategic public-sector function that has been recognized as a vehicle in supporting the government to achieve social goals and sustainable economic development. In line with this, gender inequality can be a significant constraint to economic growth and poverty reduction. Women procurement specialists have experienced inequality access and poor participation in the capacity building program and lack of contribution being leaders in public procurement managerial positions. Most females who attended the training have returned their certificates due to the challenges of being the procurement committee. These indicate female gaps, barriers, and obstacles in working as procurement specialists. The main purpose of this study is to identify the importance of Women’s Circle initiative to obtain additional support in increasing women’s capacity to provide services better and succeed in the profession; to improve skills and networking of women and access, participate and perform their tasks as the procurement professional. The study reveals that the issue of female procurement specialist is still ‘underground’ and programs related to female procurement profession remain ‘absent’. Gender stereotypes and discrimination indicate the main gaps to promote to the manager position, even though they have a high level of education, smart and also a good commitment to their work. Women are still recognized as the second group and are not allowed to play a leadership role, to some extent. This is due to the burden of domestic responsibilities that eventually catch up with them, making it difficult to remain in that role for an extended period of time. As a consequence, they have lack of self-confident, self-respect, self-esteem and also lack of capacities in communication and leadership skills and no motivation to promote themselves to the higher position. They agreed for the Women’s Circle initiative and this forum plays a vital role in supporting female professional capacity, enhancing the bargaining position and, empowering women to negotiate career development. Women’s Circle approach is a strategic path and potentially being an Educational and Training-based Forum or Learning-based forum; an agent of Reform-based Forum and as a Networking-based Forum. For a long-term benefit, Women’s Circle becomes an agent of change among women procurement specialist that finally led to being champions for Indonesian government procurement in reaching the quality of being more equitable, transparent and accountable. This approach is one of the indicators for increasing the quality of procurement modernization program with a gender perspective.

It is a common belief that priests who sexually abused minors specialized in victim type, particularly in regard to age and gender. The Nature and Scope study showed that 81% of the victims of sexual abuse by priests were male, and more than half the sample was aged 11 to 14 years. However, a closer analysis of victim type shows that only 693 of the 4,392 priests with sexual abuse allegations “specialized,” or abused multiple victims of the same gender and age. Few studies compare child sexual abusers who are versatile in their victim choice and those who sexually abuse a particular type of victim. Findings here indicate that priests who were versatile in their choice of victim differed from specialists in that they had more victims over a longer period of time, more grooming behavior, and an earlier onset of abusive behavior. There are also differences among various specialist groups in regard to age of onset and duration of abusive behavior.

Resumen
Hardly two decades old, historians of gender and colonialism might well claim to have invented a whole new field of scholarship: gender and colonialism specialists draw as much of their intellectual inspiration from each other as they do from the nation- or region-bound fields in which they research and teach. As the field of gender and colonialism has developed and expanded, it has been faced with two significant challenges. One is whether the concerns of gender and colonial history have affected the concerns of older fields in history, such as economic, political, labour, and military histories; recent assessments of imperial history suggest that gender is considered a marginal category of analysis. Another challenge is how to define and study gender and colonialism so that it does not replicate the inequalities and hierarchies of colonialism, so that we study colonizing and colonized societies in equal measure.

Abstract Objective: To document and analyze factors involved in decision-making by orthodontists in managing disturbances of eruption of maxillary canines. Materials and Methods: The participants comprised orthodontic specialists and active members of the Swedish Orthodontic Society. Those selected for the study sample were under 65 years of age or younger and had been treating orthodontic patients for at least 1 year as a specialist. Three typical cases were presented for treatment proposals. The case notes, including radiographs and specific background data, were sent to the 182 selected orthodontists. The orthodontists were also requested to complete a questionnaire about practice profile, comprising eight questions. Results: The response rate was 86.3%; yielding 157 participants (mean age 53.8 years, SD 8.12). Analysis disclosed no differences between responders and nonresponders regarding age, gender, and years of specialist practice. For treatment plans based on panoramic radiographs, intraoral radiographs, and status and anamnesis, there was general consensus. However, when supplementary information from computer tomography (CT) was provided, disclosing root resorption half-way to the pulp or more on the lateral incisor, the orthodontists' treatment proposals varied. Gender, age, and practice profile of the orthodontists had little association with the decision-making. Conclusions: Supplementary CT information led to variations in decision-making with respect to treatment of eruption disturbances of maxillary canines. This lack of consensus among specialist orthodontists can have negative implications for patients.

Abstract This work presents a first morphosyntactic account of the category gender in Ninilchik Russian, a highly-endangered dialect of Russian, within the framework of Distributed Morphology. Furthermore, it compares gender in Ninilchik Russian with that of Contemporary Standard Russian. I show that, unlike Standard Russian, Ninilchik nouns have no grammatical gender features on the nominal head. Masculine is the default grammatical gender. Human nouns, however, can be assigned feminine gender through the context, which is determined by the natural gender (sex) of the referent. The investigation is multi-disciplinary. The anticipated results will be of interest to theoretical linguists, language typologists, language-area specialists, and language educators. Since Ninilchik Russian is on the verge of extinction, the findings will also be relevant to the fields of education and endangered language documentation, maintenance, and revitalization.

Gender disparity exists generally in academia and specifically in research and education among academic medical specialists. Reasons for this disparity include overt and unconscious biases that result in women getting fewer opportunities to lead, receiving less compensation, being excluded from networking channels in which privileged positions are discussed, and facing bias in research, including in the peer review grant process. The recent spotlight on these disparities in other sectors pushes us to focus attention on the causes and consequences of gender disparity in academic medicine and to advocate for structural changes to ensure gender equity in academic departments of hospitals and universities.

The Aim. This paper examines the problem of reliability of aptitude screening currently in place in commercial aviation in terms of its indiscriminate applicability to males and females. The task consisted in evaluating some professionally important qualities in males and females, who have successfully completed aptitude screening while being admitted to the aviation school, and identify the presence or absence of differences between the obtained results. For that purpose, a research was conducted that involved 60 third-year traffic controller students of the Saint Petersburg State University of Civil Aviation (35 males and 25 females).Methods. The psychodiagnostic method included the Prognoz-1 and Prognoz-2 stress tolerance evaluation forms developed in the S.M. Kirov Military Medical Academy, H.J. Eysenck intellectual development test, A. Buss and A. Durkee hostility assessment forms. The authors’ earlier findings were also used. Statistical processing was performed using correlation analysis and Pearson’s chi-squared test.Results. The analysis of psychodiagnostic findings has shown the absence of positive differences in the intellectual development of males and females in the observed group. In general, the intelligence of the study participants was sufficiently high (121.17 average IQ for males and 123.04 for females). The assessment of the stress tolerance of the surveyed group using two different variants of the Prognoz forms also has not identified any significant differences between males and females (stress tolerance of females is somewhat lower, than that of males, but the identified difference is obviously not crucial). However, both among males (1 person) and females (1 person) participants were identified, for whom the prediction per both diagnostic method was “unfavourable”. Positive differences between the examined males and females were identified in terms of tendency towards physical aggression (A. Buss and A. Durkee test).Conclusions. The psychodiagnostic method used as part of this work have not identified fundamental gender differences. An exception is the tendency towards physical aggression. In females this indicator is clearly lower, though there are girls who display high aggressiveness. Most experimental subjects demonstrated high stress tolerance and sufficiently high level of intellectual development. And while the examined group does not display clear differences in IQ (there are reasons to believe that the larger is the surveyed group the less significant are the positive differences between males and females in terms of intellectual development), however, the trend of female aviation specialists having overall higher IQ can be observed. The research must continue, extending the range of assessment methods, including alternative approaches that do not involve personality inventories, while simultaneously evaluating the extent of professionally important psychological qualities of aviation specialists, yet not with respect to gender, but in accordance with a candidate’s identified gender type.
