Due to the increased need for more bandwidth, access networks are evolving constantly. At the moment, GPON networks are the main choice in Europe, but due to the increased traffic in recent years, developing a new option for access networks defined NGPON2 as one of the main focuses in telecommunication research. In this document the current PON networks and the possible NGPON2 candidates will be studied. The main focus will be the possibility of designing a WDM-PON network while maintaining the main GPON architecture already implemented. By using SFPs, an example will be shown where a normal GPON transmission will be converted to another wavelength in order to show a possible implementation of a WDM network.
Com o aumento da necessidade de largura de banda nos últimos anos as redes de acesso encontram-se em constante evolução. Sendo que as redes GPON são de momento a principal escolha num âmbito europeu, devido ao aumento de tráfego nos últimos anos, a necessidade de uma nova tecnologia para redes de acesso NGPON2 é um dos principais focos de investigação em telecomunicações. Neste documento irá ser realizado um estudo das actuais redes PON e as possíveis opções para uma rede NGPON2. Maior ênfase será dado à possibilidade de realizar uma rede WDM-PON utilizando como base a arquitectura GPON já implementada. . Utilizando SFPs irá ser demonstrado como é possível converter uma transmissão GPON para outros comprimentos de onda com o objectivo de criar uma rede WDM.

Neste trabalho analisamos e propomos a utilização de TDM (Time Division Multiplexing) nativo canalizado/estruturado em redes PON (Passive Optical Network) com padrão GPON (Gigabit Passive Optical Network), com ênfase na estrutura de transmissão do legado das redes de telefonia. O objetivo principal é obter um aumento na eficiência de banda transmitida através da fragmentação de sinais E1 sem que seja necessário o uso de técnicas de emulação de circuito (que reduzem a eficiência de banda devido à adição de cabeçalhos). Inicialmente, é descrito o transporte TDM em redes GPON, como efetuado pelos equipamentos comerciais atuais através de duas técnicas: CES - Circuit Emulation Service e TDM nativo não estruturado. Em seguida, é introduzido o conceito de comutação digital visando sua aplicação no transporte TDM nativo estruturado em redes GPON. Nesta etapa, é proposta uma solução para este transporte, é descrito o protocolo utilizado bem como seu funcionamento. Por fim, como prova de conceito, é apresentada uma implementação em HDL (Hardware Description Language) para FPGA (Field Programmable Gate Array).
In this work we analyze and propose the use of native channeled /structured TDM (Time Division Multiplexing) in GPON (Gigabit Passive Optical Network), with emphasis on the structure for transmission of the telephone network legacy. The main target is to achieve an increase in transmitted bandwidth efficiency by fragmenting E1 signals, thus avoiding the use of circuit emulation techniques (which reduce the bandwidth efficiency due to overhead addition). Initially, it is described in TDM transport in GPON networks, as it is performed in present commercial equipment by two techniques: CES - Circuit Emulation Service and Native TDM - unstructured. Next, we introduce the concepts of digital switching aiming its application on the transport of native and structured TDM in GPON. At this stage, we propose a transport solution, describe its protocol and functionalities. Finally, for concept proof, we present an implementation in HDL (Hardware Description Language) meant to FPGA (Field Programmable Gate Array) application.

As redes de comunicação de nova geração, onde se incluem as tecnologias de fibra óptica, têm sido uma área na qual tem havido imensa investigação e desenvolvimento. As tecnologias de FTTx, em especial a FTTH, já são uma realidade em milhares de habitações em variadíssimos países. A presente dissertação descreve um estudo da tecnologia GPON - Gigabit Passive Optical Network - nas instalações da EMACOM, Telecomunicações da Madeira, Unipessoal, Lda. Inicialmente são enumerados os requisitos necessários, quer seja por parte dos clientes como dos fornecedores. Em seguida apresenta-se o padrão do ITU-T G.984, contendo as várias camadas, tais como a camada física e a camada de convergência de transmissão, abordando também a estrutura das tramas e as principais características do referido padrão. Depois é dado a conhecer ao leitor os elementos que constituem uma rede GPON, sejam estes equipamentos passivos ou activos. Seguidamente foi descrito o planeamento para o projecto proposto onde foram estudados os vários tipos de arquitectura utilizados pelo FTTH e definiu-se qual seria a melhor opção para a zona urbana considerada. Utilizou-se o ArcMap da ESRI Portugal - Sistemas e Informação Geográfica, S.A, criando uma base de dados e um esquema da própria rede num mapa da freguesia de São Martinho. Utilizou-se o AutoCad, onde foram elaborados vários sinópticos da rede da área escolhida, nos quais englobam a rede de alimentação, e a rede de distribuição. Toda a informação ilustrada nos sinópticos foi colocada numa folha de cálculo de Excel sendo mais rápida a sua pesquisa. Posteriormente, criou-se uma lista de material com as quantidades necessárias a utilizar para a sua implementação. Para verificar a viabilidade do projecto em termos de potência óptica foi efectuado um cálculo do balanço de potência. Assim, é considerada a ligação mais distante para averiguar se existe potência óptica suficiente para cobrir essa ligação. Caso seja viável, então os outros pontos de distribuição ópticos com distâncias inferiores também estarão suficientemente alimentados em termos ópticos. São ainda abordados os vários tipos de perdas nas fibras ópticas, as definições de link power e link loss budgets. Finalmente, foram efectuados testes de simulação com o programa OptiSystem simulando a ligação usada para o cálculo de potência podendo-se assim comparar valores e verificar o desempenho do sistema através do diagrama de olho obtido.

Resumo: O objetivo deste trabalho foi propor uma arquitetura de rede óptica passiva (PON) capaz de suportar um sistema GPON e permitir a evolução para redes PON de nova geração, ou XG-PON, de maneira que ambas as tecnologias possam coexistir na mesma infraestrutura de rede óptica. Na arquitetura foram considerados um mecanismo de proteção parcial e equipamentos que possibilitam sua efetiva construção. Foi apresentado um modelo matemático que permitiu a validação da arquitetura em função do cálculo do power budget de acordo com as premissas estabelecidas pelas normas das tecnologias PON. Um modelo de cálculo de disponibilidade de redes com proteção parcial foi apresentado. De posse destes modelos foram obtidos resultados do alcance máximo da rede, número máximo de clientes suportados, as classes requeridas de equipamentos GPON e XG-PON e a relação entre o comprimento do enlace protegido e a disponibilidade, sendo obtido um alcance máximo de 13 km e disponibilidade próxima a 5-9s para uma rede com proteção parcial. O desempenho do sistema foi validado utilizando o simulador Optisystem e testes realizados em equipamentos reais
Abstract: The aim of this work was to propose a Passive Optical Network architecture (PON) capable of supporting a GPON system and enable the evolution to next-generation PON network, or XG-PON, where both technologies can coexist in the same optical network infrastructure. In the architecture were considered a partial protection mechanism and devices that allow their deployment in real situations. It was presented a mathematical model to validation of the architecture based in the power budget calculation and in the premises established by the PON technologies recommendations. A mathematical model to calc availability in networks with partial protection was presented. Using these models were obtained the maximum reach of the network, maximum supported clients, which GPON and XG-PON equipment classes were required and the relationship between the length of the protected link and availability. It was obtained a maximum reach of 13 km and network availability next to 5-9s using partial protection. The system¿s performance was validated using the Optisystem simulator and tests performed in real equipment

Resumen

This thesis includes the GPON management system concept study and implementation work to translate the command line interface management mechanism to a user friendly GUI (graphic user interface). The original system was developed in C program with a client-server structure. The new system retains the same communication structure and protocol interface between the OLT PON card and user workstations. On the workstation side, a new GUI management client application is developed in Java to offer the similar functionalities as the original one, and a totally new graphic real-time system traffic statistics function is integrated to make it easier for user to monitor system traffic information in real time.

 

The main object of this project is to study the GPON specifications, and understand GPON system working procedure and traffic transmission principle. On the other hand, ‘original system management application’ study is necessary including third party documentation reading and C code understanding. This study has resulted in the development of a new application in Java with third party user libraries and plug-ins. This new application has been tested using basic function tests executed in the GPON lab environment.

Táto práca sa zameriava na analýzu vybraných častí GPON rámca pomocou algoritmov strojového učenia implementovaných pomocou knižnice TensorFlow. Vzhľadom na to, že GPON protokol je definovaný ako sada odporúčaní, implementácia naprieč spoločnosťami sa môže líšiť od navrhnutého protokolu. Preto analýza pomocou zásobníkového automatu nie je dostatočná. Hlavnou myšlienkou je vytvoriť systém modelov za použitia knižnice TensorFlow v Python3, ktoré sú schopné detekovať abnormality v komunikácií. Tieto modely používajú viaceré architektúry neuronových sietí (napr. LSTM, autoencoder) a zameriavajú sa na rôzne typy analýzy. Tento systém sa naučí na vzorovej vzorke dát a upozorní na nájdené odlišnosti v novozachytenej komunikácií. Výstupom systému odhad podobnosti aktuálnej komunikácie v porovnaní so vzorovou komunikáciou.

This thesis focuses on development of software for security incident reporting from GPON networks. The theoretical part introduces the principles of GPON and provides an introduction to security incidents. The practical part is focused on the selection of suitable open-source systems and the design of an application in Python for the creation of alerts. The output of the work is the deployment of TheHive, Cortex and MISP systems and the creation of an application enabling the creation of various types of alerts based on prepared template. The thesis is finalized by a detailed description of deployment, custom configuration and testing.

As Redes Ópticas Passivas de Acesso são hoje uma forte aposta dos operadores de telecomunicações. A constante necessidade de baixar os custos de instalação, levou o ITU a criar normas para regular a criação de dispositivos que aumentem a capacidade das redes GPON actualmente instaladas. Ao longo desta dissertação vamos analisar os requisitos definidos na norma GPON, para a implementação destes dispositivos, e avaliar os já existentes no mercado. Vão ser analisados os amplificadores ópticos existentes, e vai ser proposto um protótipo para uma Extender Box totalmente óptica. Esse protótipo vai ser implementado e serão feitos testes que aprovam o seu funcionamento em redes GPON
The Passive Optical Access Networks are today very important to the telecommunications operators. The constant need for lowering cost lead the ITU to create recommendations to allow the creation of devices that can increase the capability of the installed GPON networks. In the scope of this thesis we will analyze the requirements defined in the GPON recommendation to the implementation of such devices, and we will evaluate the available solutions in the market. We will analyze as well the optical amplifiers available and propose a prototype for an all-optical Extender Box. This prototype will be implemented and tests will be performed to validate its operation in GPON networks.

A procura por maiores larguras de banda nas redes de telecomunicações em curtos períodos de tempo tem crescido bastante. Mas tem-se verificado um desequilíbrio em termos de flexibilidade, eficácia e custo, uma vez que há zonas de difícil acesso, onde se torna caro levar uma fibra, e há ligações que podem ser apenas temporárias, outras de longo termo. É o chamado problema de “last mile bottleneck”. Uma das possibiblidades para ultrapassar estes obstáculos, é a utilização de uma tecnologia chamada óptica de meio livre (mais conhecida pela tradução inglesa “Free Space Optics”, ou FSO). Esta tecnologia, mesmo sendo já antiga, apresenta ainda alguns desafios em termos de perdas na atmosfera ou de possíveis desalinhamentos do emissor e receptor, por exemplo. Neste trabalho é feito um estudo de uma ligação de FSO, aplicando-lhe um sinal GPON, que é uma rede óptica passiva, bastante usada pelos operadores de telecomunicações hoje em dia. Em primeiro lugar é feita a caracterização do sinal GPON apenas em fibra, assim como do “Extender Box” existente no laboratório, e só depois se fez o teste desse sinal sobre uma secção de FSO. Aplicou-se também um sinal de vídeo para perceber se o facto de passar na secção de FSO afectava a qualidade do mesmo. São feitas também algumas simulações de modo a perceber de que forma é que as perdas na ligação e o BER são afectados pela turbulência e pelo comprimento da própria ligação.
The seek for higher bandwidth in telecommunications networks on short timelines has grown quite. But it has been found an imbalance in terms of flexibility, efficiency and cost, because there are areas of difficult access, where is expensive the deployment of fiber, and there are connections that could be only temporary, and others are long term. It’s called the last mile bottleneck problem. One of the possibilities to overcome these obstacles is the usage of a technology called Free Space Optics (FSO). That, even if already old, still faces some challenges in terms of atmospheric losses or possibility of misalignment between the emitter and the receptor, for example. In this work a FSO connection is studied, applying a GPON signal, which is a passive network, quite used by the telecommunications operators nowadays. First a GPON signal characterization is done, only with fiber cables, as well as the Extender Box existent in the laboratory, and then the test of that signal over a FSO section is carried out. A video signal was also applied in order to assess the impact of the FSO section in its quality. Some simulations are also done in order to understand how link losses and BER are affected by turbulence and by the link length itself.

Com a padronização das redes óticas passivas, em particular do GPON (gigabit-capable passive optical network) adotada no Brasil, uma nova gama de serviços passou a ser viável, dentre eles a transmissão de canais de TV para assinantes usando o protocolo IP (Internet protocol), sistema conhecido como IPTV. Este processo apresenta inúmeras vantagens, dentre elas a possibilidade de um número maior de canais e com qualidade variável. O grande inconveniente neste sistema é que em qualquer sistema de transmissão de TV digital o tempo de troca de canais, conhecido como tempo de zapping, pode chegar a alguns segundos. Para reduzir este problema, este trabalho descreve um processo de codificação e transmissão de IPTV em redes GPON que reduz o tempo de zapping, podendo chegar ao tempo de recuperação de um quadro (frame). O estudo foi baseado na codificação escalável em qualidade (SNR, signal to noise ratio) proposta no padrão MPEG-2 (Moving Picture Experts Group) e pode ser facilmente portado para outros padrões de codificação como os FGSs (fine grain scalability) do MPEG-4. O transporte utiliza a característica multicast das redes GPON além do protocolo IGMP (Internet group management protocol). Uma vez que o sistema IPTV propicia ao assinante vantagens como, o aumento do número de canais e a melhoria da qualidade de cada um deles devido à flexibilização da banda, este trabalho pressupõe que o assinante aceitará uma qualidade de vídeo inferior, no momento do zapping, desde que aumente com o decorrer do tempo. O aumento da qualidade é ilustrado por curvas comparativas, que mostram os tempos entre a mudança do canal, a entrada dele em baixa resolução e a melhora progressiva até a estabilidade em qualidade máxima.
With the standardization of passive optical networks, in particular GPON (gigabit-capable passive optical networks), which is adopted in Brazil, a new range of services become feasible, among them TV channels transmission to subscribers using the IP (Internet protocol), known as IPTV system, is one of the most important. This process has many advantages, including the possibility of offering a greater number of channels with variable quality. The greater inconvenience of this solution is that in any system of digital TV transmission the time to exchange channels, known as zapping time, can reach some seconds. To reduce this problem, this M.Sc thesis proposes a coding and transmission process for IPTV in GPON networks that reduces the zapping time to values smaller than one frame time. This work is based on the scalable SNR (signal to noise ratio) proposed in MPEG-2 standard and can be easily ported to other standards like FGS (fine grain scalability) in MPEG-4. Transport uses GPON multicast characteristics beside IGMP (Internet group management protocol). Once IPTV system offers many advantages like, increasing number of channels and better image quality per channel since bandwidth can be flexible. It is assumed that the IPTV subscriber will accept low video quality, at the zapping moment, but quality will increase progressively. Comparative graphics show the quality increase in terms of time between zapping, low quality video starting and the progressive quality increase up to stability in full quality.

Neste trabalho propomos e analisamos algoritmos de alocação dinâmica de banda para rede óptica passiva (PON) de acesso padrão GPON (Gigabit PON). Estes algoritmos utilizam dados oriundos de SLA (service level agreement) para gerenciar a alocação de banda e classificar em 4 contêineres de tráfego (T-CONT) o tráfego gerado em 16 ONUs (optical network unit). Na transmissão upstream é utilizada a técnica de multiplexação por divisão de tempo (TDM) para gerenciar o acesso ao meio, evitando colisões. O primeiro algoritmo proposto aloca banda garantida para as ONUs e distribui a banda não utilizada de acordo com critério baseado em três SLAs. A taxa de bit upstream é 1,25 Gbps e o desempenho do algoritmo é analisado com base na variação do atraso de pacotes em função do tráfego gerado nas ONUs. O segundo algoritmo proposto utiliza ponderação de tráfego. Neste, analisamos o comportamento dos atrasos e a quantidade de banda solicitada e atendida por ONU quando as bandas garantida e extra são alteradas. Por fim, acrescentamos em nossa implementação um intervalo para o processamento do algoritmo de alocação dinâmica de banda (DBA) e resposta do hardware relacionado ao ciclo de interrogação. Então, analisamos o atraso de pacotes quando variamos o intervalo de processamento do DBA. Ao final, propomos uma solução preliminar para minimizar estes atrasos. Os resultados obtidos por meio de simulação computacional mostram a versatilidade dos algoritmos.
In this work we propose and analyze the performance of dynamic bandwidth allocation algorithms for optical passive networks (PON) in GPON standard (Gigabit PON). These algorithms use data from SLA (service level agreement) to manage bandwidth allocation and classify in 4 traffic containers (T-CONT) the traffic generated by 16 ONUs (optical network unit). In the upstream transmission the time division multiplexing (TDM) technique is used to manage the medium access, avoiding collisions. The first proposed algorithm allocates guaranteed bandwidth for the ONUs and distributes the bandwidth not used according to the criteria based on three SLAs. The upstream bit rate is 1.25 Gbps and the algorithm performance is analyzed based on the packets delay variation versus the traffic generated by ONUs. The second proposed algorithm uses weighted traffic. In this, we analyze the delay performance and the required bandwidth for each ONU and how much it is served when the guaranteed and extra bandwidth are changed. Finally, we added in our implementation an interval for the processing of the dynamic bandwidth allocation algorithm (DBA) and response of the hardware related to the interrogation cycle. In the end, we propose a preliminary solution to minimize these delays. The results obtained by means of computational simulation show the versatility of the algorithms.

A fibra óptica é amplamente utilizada hoje em dia em várias aplicações e áreas, inclusive nas telecomunicações, e cada vez mais na medicina. A sua capacidade de armazenar uma maior quantidade de informação, transportando os mesmos a uma velocidade elevada constitui uma das vantagens sobre os fios de cobre, podendo os cabos de fibra óptica ser usadas tanto para transmissão a curta ou longa distância – ligando redes locais, ou até mesmo países. No presente trabalho faz-se o estudo de mecanismos de multicast nas redes GPON, usando a tecnologia FTTH. Começa-se por se fazer uma abordagem sobre a fibra óptica, motivação, características, e limitações à sua utilização. Analisa-se um sistema de transmissão GPON Ponto-Multiponto e faz-se a implementação de mecanismos de multicast, respeitando a norma do Broadband Fórum/WT-156 Multicast, num FPGA (Field Programmable Gate Array) – Virtex 5, realizada em software, tendo-se usado o ambiente de software integrado ISE Design Suite 10.1 (Integrated Software Environment).
The optical fibre is widely used today in many applications and areas, including telecommunications, and increasingly in medicine. Their ability to store a larger amount of information, carrying the same at high speed is one of the advantages over copper wires, and they can be used both for transmission to short or long distance - connecting local area networks, or even countries. This work is the study of mechanisms for multicast networks using GPON FTTH technology. Begins by making an approach to optical fiber, motivation, characteristics, and limitations on its use. It analyzes a transmission system GPON Point-to-Multipoint and makes the implementation of multicast mechanisms, respecting the rule of Broadband Fórum/WT-156 Multicast, in a FPGA (Field Programmable Gate Array) - Virtex 5, held in the integrated software environment ISE Design Suite 10.1.

This diploma thesis describes a design and implementation of a system for monitoring events in passive optical networks, specifically in GPON networks. The main technologies used in the implementation of this system are Apache Kafka, Docker and the Python programming language. Within the created application, several filters are implemented. This filters obtain essential information from the captured frames in terms of traffic analysis on the given network. The result of the thesis is a functional system that from the captured GPON frames obtains information about the network traffic and stores them in the Apache Kafka, where the stored data is accessible for further processing. The work also provides examples of how to process the stored data, along with information about their meaning and structure.

La presente tesis busca lograr un mayor acceso a la banda ancha en el distrito de Magdalena del Mar y con ello acortar la diferencia de acceso a la banda ancha fija que existe en el Perú, en comparación a los demás países de Sudamérica como Uruguay (23%), Argentina (15%) y Chile (13%). Para lograrlo, se propone un diseño de red FTTH con estándar GPON el cual brindará un servicio con velocidades altas de carga y descarga, una red confiable debido a su red redundante y costos accesibles para el usuario del hogar. Para ello en el primer capítulo se realizará un diagnóstico de la situación actual respecto de los servicios de telecomunicaciones y el nivel socio económico del distrito. En el segundo capítulo, se desarrollará toda la teoría correspondiente a la tesis para entender los conceptos básicos necesarios para el diseño de la red. En el tercer capítulo, se mostrará toda la ingeniería de red, donde se explicarán los pasos que se realizaron para diseñar la red FTTH; así como, el dimensionamiento de las potencias y las tasas de transferencias en la red. Y por último, se realizará un análisis económico en donde se plantea un horizonte temporal de 5 años para recuperar lo invertido y generar rentabilidad. Al final de la presente tesis, se mostrará las conclusiones a las cuales se llegó a lo largo del desarrollo del diseño de la red FTTH con estándar GPON para el distrito de Magdalena del Mar.

La presente investigación se desarrolla a fin de establecer el impacto positivo por la implementación de una red FTTH (Fibra hasta el hogar) aplicando el estándar GPON en el distrito de Santiago de Surco, provincia de Lima, departamento de Lima; la cual brindará mayor acceso a la banda ancha fija y disminuir la brecha digital que existe en el Perú ofreciendo costos accesibles a los hogares. Actualmente existe la necesidad de mejorar las tasas de velocidades de transmisión de bajada y subida, por lo que surge la necesidad del diseño de una red que se soporte en un medio de transmisión que permita realizarlo; siendo la fibra óptica la mejor opción. Al final del presente trabajo de suficiencia profesional se presentarán los resultados del por qué una red FTTH es la mejor opción técnica y económica frente a otras tecnologías como HFC y xDSL; y adicional, se va a presentar la evaluación financiera con un tiempo proyectado de 5 años para lograr recuperar la inversión y generar rentabilidad, por lo que se concluye que una red FTTH permite cubrir las exigencias técnicas y económicas de los hogares, razones por las cuales se convierte en una opción viable para su implementación.

Resumo: Esse trabalho apresenta os detalhes e os resultados de testes automatizados e manuais que utilizaram a técnica de injeção de falhas e que foram aplicados em redes ópticas. No primeiro experimento o teste foi automatizado e utilizou a emulação de falhas físicas baseadas na máquina de estados do software embarcado dessa rede. Para esse teste foi utilizado uma chave óptica que é controlada por um robô de testes. O segundo experimento foi um teste manual, que injetou falhas nas mensagens de comunicação do protocolo dessa rede, a fim de validar os mecanismos de tolerância a falhas do software central dessa rede. Esse experimento utilizou a metodologia Conformance and Fault injection para preparar, executar e relatar os resultados dos casos de testes. Nos dois experimentos também foi utilizado um padrão de documentação de testes que visa facilitar a reprodução dos testes, a fim de que eles possam ser aplicados em outros ambientes. Com a aplicação desses testes, a rede óptica pode alcançar uma maior confiabilidade, disponibilidade e robustez, que são características essenciais para sistemas que requerem alta dependabilidade
Abstract: This work presents the details and the results of automatic and manual tests that used the fault injection technique and were applied on GPON network. In the first experiment the test was automated, and it performed the emulation of physical faults based on the state machine of the embedded software in this network. In this test is used an optical switch that is controlled by a test robot. The second experiment was a manual test, which injected faults on protocol communication message exchanged through the optical network, in order to validate the main software fault tolerance mechanisms. This experiment used a Conformance and Fault injection methodology to prepare, execute and report the results of the test cases. In both experiments, it was used a standard test documentation to facilitate the reproduction of the tests, so that they can be applied in other environments. With applying both tests, the optical networks reach greater reliability, availability and robustness. These attributes are essential for systems that require high dependability

The object of this research is to develop a solution for band-limited channels. Backplane channels and GPON channels are investigated to apply an equalization technique. Different lengths of backplane channels are measured with different signal speeds to investigate the channel performance. Also a GPON system with different fiber lengths is designed and set up in a lab to measure the BER performance. The GPON system utilizes a Fabry-Perot laser for the most economical solution. After the circuits are fabricated, they are inserted into the system to measure the performance of the channels with equalizers. Both the backplane and the GPON system show successful channel improvement in measured eye diagrams and BER. To expedite the procedure and eventually build an adaptive system which could be inserted and self-optimizing, we found it essential to monitor the output of the equalizer. A novel analog way to achieve this goal is suggested. All the equalizers mentioned in this dissertation have one summing node to add up all the values from VGAs. This structure is very efficient, but in the event that there are too many VGAs, it draws too much current through the one node. This issue is dealt with by the design of two nine tap equalizers, which are compared to assess the difference in performance between the unbalanced structure and the balanced structure.

Resumo: Neste trabalho apresentamos um estudo atual das plataformas GPON e EPON, mostrando suas principais características técnicas, realizando uma análise comparativa encontrando as vantagens e desvantagens entre as duas tecnologias. Utilizou-se o software livre analisador de protocolos Ethereal, para o estudo experimental de um enlace ponto a ponto Gigabit para diversos testes de tráfego, obtendo a perspectiva desde o modelo OSI do enlace. Também se realizaram estudos econômicos sobre a factibilidade ao momento de desenvolver uma rede óptica passiva, encontrando e apresentando argumentos válidos tanto econômicos como técnicos ao momento de implantar e massificar este tipo de redes em uma região.
Abstract: This work presents a study of the current GPON and EPON platforms, showing its main technical characteristics, making a comparative analysis finding the advantages and disadvantages between the two technologies. We used the free software Ethereal, which is an analyzer of protocols for the experimental study of a point to point Gigabit link doing tests for different kinds of traffic to get the perspective from the OSI. We also conducted studies on the economic feasibility of developing a passive optical network, finding and presenting valid economic and technical arguments to deploy and expand this type of networks in a region.

Jönköping Energi AB (JEAB) is a local energy supplier for the county of Jönköping. JEAB also maintain the local Metropolitan Area Network (MAN). They have recently installed GPON in a portion of their network and have connected it to the MAN via an Extreme switch.

However JEAB would prefer to use Cisco equipment instead of Extreme since the MAN comprises of Cisco hardware. They require a solution to connect GPON to the MAN with a recently purchased line card (Cisco 7600 ES20) which can be installed in a Cisco 6500 Catalyst switch. There is also a possible solution with an Alcatel-Lucent 7450 ESS-1 switch. The proposed solution is to use Virtual Private LAN Service (VPLS), though the exact implementation required is unknown. Additionally JEAB have asked for research into GPON and VPLS in order to improve their understanding of both techniques. This would be of benefit to them both now and in the future.

In order to achieve the stated objectives the following questions are raised:

• How does GPON work?

• How does VPLS work?

• How can GPON be connected to the MAN via Cisco Systems 6500 Catalyst switch/7600 Router?

• How can GPON be connected to the MAN via Alcatel-Lucents 7450 ESS-1?

The research into GPON and VPLS provides the required background knowledge in order to investigate how GPON can be connected to the MAN. The main body of the work is to analyse the requirements of the company and build a configuration which satisfies them. The desired implementation via Cisco Systems solution was deemed unsuitable due to a feature of DHCP option 82 which did not function as required. The focus then turned to Alcatel-Lucents solution.

The resulting solution uses a part of VPLS via Alcatel-Lucents 7450 ESS-1. All the key elements are included, including hiding customer VLANs from the ISP and per-service QoS bandwidth management.

The conclusion is that whilst using Alcatel-Lucents solution means a deviation from the all-Cisco implementation that had been planned; the benefit of including all the desired functionality outweighs the mixing of manufacturers.

The techniques of GPON and VPLS are extremely versatile and can be used in a variety of networks. Therefore there is scope for further research into how these two techniques can be used together in other types of MAN.

V teoretické části je stručně popsaný paketový analyzátor a jeho možnosti, dále také jednotka GPON a možnosti zapojení s analyzátorem k detekci provozu. V praktické části, zařízení jsou nakonfigurovaná a zachycená data analyzovaná.. Aplikace vyvinutá s pomocí jazyka Python podporuje příjem a zpracování dat. Výstup analýzy by měl být v rámci možností co nejpodrobnější s popisem významu jednotlivých položek.

In the practical part, you can find creating a source database and an application to create a OLAP cube and display multidimensional data. Los sistemas de transmisión de datos basados en fibra óptica se han constituido en el medio de comunicación más admisible para la transmisión de video, audio, voz y datos; especialmente para comunicaciones de alta velocidad. En el presente proyecto de tesis se busca diseñar una red FTTH basado en el estándar GPON para la conexión de videocámaras para el distrito de San Martin de Porres, dada la necesidad de tener una arquitectura de red de fibra óptica; además, de contar con un medio de transmisión confiable para las videocámaras a desplegarse en el distrito. Uno de los grandes problemas de la arquitectura actual de comunicaciones inalámbrica es la falta de capacidad, crecimiento y disponibilidad de ancho de banda para poder operar correctamente con sus sistemas de seguridad ciudadana. Así, el Plan Local de Seguridad Ciudadana 2017 – 2018 del distrito es el documento en el cual se basa este proyecto, a fin de recopilar información y determinar las ubicaciones críticas que necesitan ser cubiertas por videocámaras de seguridad. Este proyecto se enmarca en las mejoras a las arquitecturas de red de tipo MAN como es el estándar GPON de tipo FTTH (Fibra hasta el hogar) que es capaz de cubrir grandes distancias sin necesidad de usar repetidores de señal y/o amplificadores, y que además de eso, ofrece un ancho de banda de transmisión de gran envergadura, que proporciona confiabilidad para la transmisión y procesamiento de información que generen las videocámaras de seguridad. Asimismo, cabe mencionar que actualmente, dicho estándar viene siendo implementado por operadores de telecomunicaciones que brindan servicios a través de un solo medio de trasmisión que les ofrezca un ancho de banda.
The fiber-optic data transmission systems have become the most admissible means of communication for the transmission of video, audio, voice and data; especially for high-speed communications. In this thesis project we are looking to design an FTTH network based on the GPON standard for the connection of video cameras for the district of San Martin de Porres, given the need to have an optical fiber network architecture; in addition, to have a reliable transmission medium for the camcorders to be deployed in the district. One of the great problems of the current architecture of wireless communications is the lack of capacity, growth and availability of bandwidth to be able to operate correctly with its citizen security systems. Thus, the Local Civic Security Plan 2017 - 2018 of the district is the document on which this project is based, in order to gather information and determine the critical locations that need to be covered by security camcorders. This project is part of the improvements to MAN network architectures such as the GPON standard of type FTTH (Fiber to the home) that is capable of covering large distances without the need to use signal repeaters and / or amplifiers, and In addition, it offers a wide transmission bandwidth, which provides reliability for the transmission and processing of information generated by security camcorders. It should also be mentioned that currently, this standard is being implemented by telecommunications operators that provide services through a single transmission medium that offers them a bandwidth.

The research initiatives addressed in this thesis are geared towards improving the performance of passive optical networks through the development of advanced dynamic bandwidth allocation protocols. In particular, the aim of the research undertaken is to enhance the quality of service offered by standard passive optical networks with reduced network costs. To that extent, a dynamic multi-wavelength protocol has been developed to increase the network upstream bandwidth and introduce multiple service levels to a fibre to the home-based giga-bit passive optical network. Simulation results have confirmed the reduction of the mean packet delay by adjusting the ITU-T standard G984 giga-bit passive optical network frame format by means of the introduction of extended wavelength band overlay based on the ITU-T Coarse- Wavelength Division Multiplexing grid to support the multi-wavelength functionality. To evaluate the multi-wavelength upstream operation of the newly implemented models in OPNET, 2-dimensional Dynamic Bandwidth Allocation algorithms have been introduced to manage the network resources in both the time and wavelength domains. Furthermore, the enhanced traffic allocation among the supported wavelengths in new protocol confirmed a performance improvement in the network total capacity and the mean packet delay, which demonstrates the network reliability and improves the quality of the provided service according to the subscriber service level agreement, with a minimum guaranteed bandwidth of 100 Mbit/s to fulfil applications and associated bandwidth requirements for the next generation access network.

Another part of the work is dedicated to progressive methods of construction such as microtubes and solution using the hanging cables, which due to the efficiency of construction, rapidity, economic and facilitate implementation. In conclusion the theoretical part there is issues of measurement. It describes a Optical Loss Test Set, OTDR method and method of measuring dispersion. Increasing demands on the capacity of the transmission paths, and their quality are caused of monitoring optical access networks, which can evaluate the failure on a route, target problems and inform service. The practical part compares EPON and GPON. In program OptiSystem was created model which these technologies are evaluated in terms of performance parameters, noise, jitter and eye diagram quality. The common feature of technology is transmission TDM frames, where EPON uses Ethernet and GPON technologies ATM. The outcome of simulation don´t show which technology is better, but result shows the conditions of the proposal of these technologies. At the end of work there are created several models for solving the optical access network with pricing per user. The most developed technology is FTTB in urban areas, when transmission in last mile uses copper circuit. This solution causing a rapid return on investment. Other technologies such as point-to-point FTTH or PON are implemented as individual proposals. Each of these solutions has advantages and disadvantages, so each project is unique and the solution is dependent on the project site and the requirements of customers.

Diploma thesis is dealing with access networks, especially with the passive optical network. The theoretical part is a list of different types of passive optical access networks, including theirs basic description, which then goes on to feature connectivity options for optical units, customers, including topology of distribution network. Analysis of different types of networks and the possibility of physical and logical design is the basis for successful design and prepa-ration of future optical access networks. Practical part is devoting to data analysis of measurement existing metropolitan network to be used for construction of optical access network in Brno, Ţlutý kopec – Preslova location. Data evaluation showed possibility of connecting with already installed network hence is created proposal of optical access network mentioned before. Selected location is analysed in detail and illustrated on situational scheme of location and customers, whose will be passive split-ters to central office. Consequently is developed project of optical access network based on data analysed date from measurements. Project is study and description of planned solution of optical access network in order to bring Triple Play services to customers. Within the interpretation of the feasibility of the project and verification physical layer pa-rameters of network was made a simulation in OptiSystem. The possibility of successful op-eration of the optical access network with the attributes entered in its design is approved in accordance with the evaluation results. The proposed network is passive in character of GPON standard, and the text describes in detail physical layer, proposed transmission speed, wave and attenuation plan of optical net-work. The work implies a specific line of HDPE ducts and microducts in them, including drawing the maps and identification in-depth. The work contains a description of the elements that are installed on the route – the number, type and eventually its length. Diploma thesis is introducing the technology and construction sequence of access network leading to its opera-tional state.

The diploma thesis is focused on design of new laboratory exercises on the topic of gigabit passive optical networks. The theoretical analysis is devoted to acquaintance with basic problematics of PON and analysis of individual PON standards. Special attention, besides GPON, XG-PON and EPON standards, is devoted to security issues in PON. The goal of practical section of the thesis is the design of four laboratory exercises. Two exercises are focused on configuring GPON and XG-PON networks in a console environment with the help of exemplary console commands. The goal of the third exercise is to hook up and configure an EPON network using web configuration interface. The fourth exercise is designed for a realization of DoS attack against a fully functioning laboratory GPON network. The objective is to jam the upstream communication bandwidth with laser transmission causing a desynchronization between active network elements.

Les réseaux de télécommunication doivent être fiables et robustes pour garantir la haute disponibilité des services. Les opérateurs cherchent actuellement à automatiser autant que possible les opérations complexes de gestion des réseaux, telles que le diagnostic de pannes.Dans cette thèse nous nous sommes intéressés au diagnostic automatique de pannes dans les réseaux d'accès optiques de l'opérateur Orange. L'outil de diagnostic utilisé jusqu'à présent, nommé DELC, est un système expert à base de règles de décision. Ce système est performant mais difficile à maintenir en raison, en particulier, du très grand volume d'informations à analyser. Il est également impossible de disposer d'une règle pour chaque configuration possible de panne, de sorte que certaines pannes ne sont actuellement pas diagnostiquées.Dans cette thèse nous avons proposé une nouvelle approche. Dans notre approche, le diagnostic des causes racines des anomalies et alarmes observées s'appuie sur une modélisation probabiliste, de type réseau bayésien, des relations de dépendance entre les différentes alarmes, compteurs, pannes intermédiaires et causes racines au niveau des différents équipements de réseau. Ce modèle probabiliste a été conçu de manière modulaire, de façon à pouvoir évoluer en cas de modification de l'architecture physique du réseau.Le diagnostic des causes racines des anomalies est effectué par inférence, dans le réseau bayésien, de l'état des noeuds non observés au vu des observations (compteurs, alarmes intermédiaires, etc...) récoltées sur le réseau de l'opérateur. La structure du réseau bayésien, ainsi que l'ordre de grandeur des paramètres probabilistes de ce modèle, ont été déterminés en intégrant dans le modèle les connaissances des experts spécialistes du diagnostic sur ce segment de réseau. L'analyse de milliers de cas de diagnostic de pannes a ensuite permis de calibrer finement les paramètres probabilistes du modèle grâce à un algorithme EM (Expectation Maximization).Les performances de l'outil développé, nommé PANDA, ont été évaluées sur deux mois de diagnostic de panne dans le réseau GPON-FTTH d'Orange en juillet-août 2015. Dans la plupart des cas, le nouveau système, PANDA, et le système en production, DELC, font un diagnostic identique. Cependant un certain nombre de cas sont non diagnostiqués par DELC mais ils sont correctement diagnostiqués par PANDA. Les cas pour lesquels les deux systèmes émettent des diagnostics différents ont été évalués manuellement, ce qui a permis de démontrer dans chacun de ces cas la pertinence des décisions prises par PANDA
Telecommunication networks must be reliable and robust to ensure high availability of services. Operators are currently searching to automate as much as possible, complex network management operations such as fault diagnosis.In this thesis we are focused on self-diagnosis of failures in the optical access networks of the operator Orange. The diagnostic tool used up to now, called DELC, is an expert system based on decision rules. This system is efficient but difficult to maintain due in particular to the very large volume of information to analyze. It is also impossible to have a rule for each possible fault configuration, so that some faults are currently not diagnosed.We proposed in this thesis a new approach. In our approach, the diagnosis of the root causes of malfunctions and alarms is based on a Bayesian network probabilistic model of dependency relationships between the different alarms, counters, intermediate faults and root causes at the level of the various network component. This probabilistic model has been designed in a modular way, so as to be able to evolve in case of modification of the physical architecture of the network. Self-diagnosis of the root causes of malfunctions and alarms is made by inference in the Bayesian network model of the state of the nodes not observed in view of observations (counters, alarms, etc.) collected on the operator's network. The structure of the Bayesian network, as well as the order of magnitude of the probabilistic parameters of this model, were determined by integrating in the model the expert knowledge of the diagnostic experts on this segment of the network. The analysis of thousands of cases of fault diagnosis allowed to fine-tune the probabilistic parameters of the model thanks to an Expectation Maximization algorithm. The performance of the developed probabilistic tool, named PANDA, was evaluated over two months of fault diagnosis in Orange's GPON-FTTH network in July-August 2015. In most cases, the new system, PANDA, and the system in production, DELC, make an identical diagnosis. However, a number of cases are not diagnosed by DELC but are correctly diagnosed by PANDA. The cases for which self-diagnosis results of the two systems are different were evaluated manually, which made it possible to demonstrate in each of these cases the relevance of the decisions taken by PANDA

The aim of this thesis is to formulate the design of optical access network in designated area. The design is focused on the physical network layer and it covers optical fibers, cable protectors and links, optical hubs, racks and active components. The thesis also docu- ments network architecture, the configuration of active components and provides results from monitoring of selected network segments. The thesis consists of the theoretical part and practical part. In the theoretical part, there is an introduction to optical networks, their configurations (FTTH, FTTB, FTTC, FTTN), relevant networking standards and technologies. The practical part of the thesis covers design proposal of a network located in Slavičín. The design reuses infrastructure and technologies of existing network. The proposed design follows FTTH architecture which has benefits of low maintenance cost and it also fulfills GPON standard.

This diploma thesis deals with the historical development of passive optical networks, according to the standards that was defined by International Telecommunication Union (APON, BPON, GPON, XG-PON and NG-PON). Further, the thesis describes the security of passive optical networks, but also a security threats which the deployment and use of passive optical technology carry. In the introductory chapters of this thesis the passive optical networks are described. The following is a description of the standards of passive optical networks in terms of their historical development. The next part is dedicated to the security of passive optical networks and possible security threats. In conclusion a description of the practical part of this thesis is given -- rack assembly, which will serve for future testing. The basic configuration of the optical line terminations that are fitted in the rack is also described. The last part of this diploma thesis is dedicated to the testing of selected security risks, which was described in the theoretical part of this thesis.

För att kunna ha förberäknade animationer användes autodesk fbx-filer. Skinningen har använt dubbel kvaternioner istället för matriser.Rapporten visar att skeletal animation med dubbel kvaternion skinning teknik kan utföras genom att använda fbx-filer med data som först exporterats till json-format.

Afin d'augmenter le nombre d'utilisateurs de ces systèmes, nous proposons deux architectures systèmes OCDMA. La première est une architecture système hybride WDM/OCDMA à encodage temporel integrant une source large bande découpée spectralment afin de multiplier le nombre d'utilisateurs multiplexés OCDMA par le nombre de canaux WDM générés. La seconde est une architecture système OCDMA à encodage spectral en phase qui permet d'implémenter des codes bipolaires. De même, nous avons réduit les interférences d'accès multiple (MAI : Multiple Access Interference) rencontrées dans ces systèmes OCDMA du fait des utilisateurs interférents, en utilisant un absorbant saturable après décodage des données de l'utilisateur désiré. Dans le cadre du projet ANR SUPERCODE, nous avons étudié la génération d'une source continuum optique et l'implémentation d'un absorbant saturable, basées sur l'exploitation d'effets d'optique non-linéaire dans des fibres spéciales ; conçu et implémenté des codeurs et décodeurs tout-optique via des réseaux de Bragg photo-inscrits dans des fibres optiques; puis réalisé l'intégration système des architectures proposées, ainsi que l'étude et l'evaluation des performances obtenues.

This thesis works is in line with high-bit-rate optical access systems, where optical fiber bandwidth is shared between several users. In this context, we interest on Optical Code Division Multiple Access (OCDMA) comunication system is considered as an attractive solution. However, thoses system has disadvantages of being limited terms of capacity multiplexing and undergoes interference from unwanted users. In order to increase the number of users of these systems, we propose two OCDMA systems architectures. The first architecture is a hybrid WDM / OCDMA system based on temporal encoding, including a spectrum-sliced broadband source in order to increase the number of users multiplexed via OCDMA by the number of WDM channels generated. The second architecture is an OCDMA system based on spectral-phase encoding that allows the implementation of bipolar codes. Furthermore, we reduced the Multiple Access Interference (MAI) encountered in these OCDMA systems because of interfering users, by using a fiber-based saturable absorber after the data decoding of the desired user. In the framework of the French National Agency for Research (ANR) project SUPERCODE, we studied continuum source generation and optical implementation of saturable absorber, based on optical nonlinear effects in special fibers; designed and implemented all optical encoders and decoders based on Bragg gratings photo-inscribed in optical fibers; and done sytem integration of proposed architectures, as well as analysis and evaluation of system performance

This work deals with the modern trends in FTTX, but mainly focuses on FTTH, who represents the connecting of fiber to the homes of the participants. Sum up the basic problems of communication on the optical fibre, followed by comparison with other types of access networks. Another part is the analysis of the problems of construction and a description of the optical network topologies and technologies used in FTTH. In following chapter are characterized active and passive elements forming AON and PON networks. Next part deals with the study of the most common services that can be on the optical access network to operate. They are mainly associated with the TriplePlay services. An integral part of the project is the study of management and supervision optical networks. In the main part is created real model situation where is the requirement for the creation of optical access networks with broadband of TriplePlay, followed by selection of appropriate options and detailed project with a selection of active and passive elements with economic balance.

The research initiatives addressed in this thesis are geared towards improving the performance of passive optical networks (PONs) through the development of advanced dynamic bandwidth allocation (DBA) protocols. In particular, the aim of the research undertaken is to enhance the quality of service (QoS) offered by standard PONs by means of providing subscribers with service level agreement (SLA) to fulfil applications and associated bandwidth requirements on demand. To accomplish the research objectives, a novel service and bandwidth focused DBA protocol is developed for standard time division multiplexing (TDM), gigabit-capable PONs (GPONs) by flexibly assigning a guaranteed minimum bandwidth to each optical network unit (ONU),terminated at subscribers premises. Modelling and simulation of the developed algorithms have displayed a tenfold enhancement in network performance, showing a superior performance to other published DBA protocols, in terms of mean packet delay. To accomplish protocol optimisation, the ONU upstream transmission properties of TDM-PONs have been further analysed and subsequently the ONU data transfer order in each communication cycle has been dynamically configured to increase the network upstream throughput by overlapping the upstream transmission period with parts of the bandwidth request-allocation process between OLT and ONUs. In addition, with the objective of extending the application of the developed protocol to long-reach PONs by means of reducing the augmented propagation delays due to the network’s extensive reach, the concept of virtual communication cycles has been incorporated into the optimised DBA algorithm. This approach demonstrates comparable transmission efficiency in the context of subscriber throughput and packet delay as in a standard PON but at much longer distances from the network exchange. To overcome the inevitably limited communication capacity of single wavelength TDM protocols and with the transportation of the ever increasing, time-sensitive, multi-media services in mind, a novel multi-wavelength DBA protocol is then developed to be applied to a wavelength division multiplexing–PON. With this protocol, both the downstream and upstream network capacity is dynamically adjusted according to subscribers’ service level and bandwidth demand in each polling cycle as opposed to a fixed upstream network capacity in TDM-PONs. It therefore also demonstrates improved upstream transmission efficiency.

Resumo: No ambiente colaborativo das grades computacionais são poucas as ferramentas para gerência de processos e serviços orientadas ao usuário. Esta dissertação apresenta o Grid Process Orchestration (GPO), uma infraestrutura que faz orquestração de serviços e processos em grades computacionais, permitindo ao usuário criar e gerenciar ?uxos complexos, com tarefas fortemente acopladas, sem suporte adicional. O GPO é baseado na OGSA (Open Grid Services Architecture) e descreve os ?uxos usando o conceito de orquestra¸ao de serviços Web aplicados aos serviços das Grades Computacionais. A dissertação descreve a arquitetura da infraestrutura proposta, detalha seus principais componentes, suas funcionalidades para gerência de ?uxos e alguns aspectos do protótipo implementado. Abstract: In the collaborative environment of the Computational Grids, there are few tools used for process management and user guide services. This work presents the Grid Process Orchestration (GPO), an infrastructure for service and process orchestration in computational grids, which allows to create and manage complex work?ows composed of strongcoupled jobs with no additional support. The GPO is based on the Open Grid Services Architecture (OGSA) and describes work?ows using Web Services orchestration concepts applied to computational grid services. This work describes the architecture of the proposed infrastructure, detailing its main components, functionalities for ?ow management, and shows an implemented prototype. In addition to the architecture, it proposes a compact language for describing work?ows. An application example is presented to illustrate the facilities of the proposed infrastructure

A presente dissertação permitiu quantificar a presença de glicerol-3-fosfato oxidase (GPO, sn-glicerol-3-fosfato: oxigênio 2-oxidorredutase, EC 1.1.3.21) em extratos de levedura seca de panificação por dois métodos: polarográfico e colorimétrico. A melhor metodologia de purificação da GPO foi obtida por rompimento celular com esferas de vidro, em homogenizador do tipo Bead Beater (Biospec products, USA), por 15 minutos, com 27,6% de eficiência de lise celular. O extrato celular bruto foi tratado com 1% de sulfato de estreptomicina antes da precipitação com igual volume de solução 30% (p/v) de polietilenoglicol 3350, dialisado e a sua atividade otimizada por método colorimétrico. A determinação das características da GPO foi possível em ensaios contendo: 250 mM de glicerol-3-fosfato em tampão 0,1 M Tris-HCl pH 8,0 contendo 0,1% Triton X-100; 0,0133% de 4-aminoantipirina; 0,0266% de fenol; cerca de 0,40 unidade de peroxidase (PO) e água destilada para completar o volume de ensaio. A reação foi iniciada pela adição de 15 æL de extrato enzimático diluído 10 vezes seguido de uma incubação de 2 horas a 60°C e interrompida pela adição de solução 10% de SDS e a coloração desenvolvida foi medida a 500 nm. A GPO apresentou alta estabilidade térmica, pH de estabilidade entre 7,0 - 8,0 e a presença de azida de sódio na concentração de 0,05% manteve a atividade da enzima por 21 dias a 40°C. Este método permitiu também quantificar glicerol-3- fosfato, importante metabólito intermediário da biossíntese lipídica e glicolítica, na faixa de 56 - 250 mM.
The present dissertation allowed to quantify the presence of glycerol-3- phosphate oxidase (GPO, sn-glycerol-3-phosphate: oxygen 2-oxidoreductase, EC 1.1.3.21) in baker s yeast extract by two methods: polarographic and colorimetric. The best methodology of purification of GPO was obtained by cell debris with glass beads, in a Bead Beater homogenizator (Biospec products, USA), for 15 minutes, with 27.6% of efficiency of cellular lysis. The crude cellular extract was treated with 1% of streptomycin sulfate before the precipitation, with equal volume of a solution of 30% (w/v) polyethylene glycol 3350, dialysed and its activity was optimized by colorimetric method. The determination of the characteristics of GPO was possible in assays containing: 250 mM of glycerol-3-phosphate in 0.1 M Tris-HCl buffer, pH 8.0 containing 0.1% Triton X-100; 0.0133% of 4-aminoantipyrine; 0.0266% of phenol; about 0.40 unit of peroxidase (PO) and water distilled to complete the volume. The reaction was started by the addition of 15 ìL of enzymatic extract diluted 10 times, followed by incubation of 2 hours at 60°C, interrupted by the addition of solution 10% of SDS, and the developed coloration was measured at 500 nm. GPO presented high thermal stability, pH of stability among 7.0 - 8.0, and the presence of sodium azide in the concentration of 0.05% maintained the activity of the enzyme for 21 days at 40°C. This method also allowed to quantify glicerol-3- phosphate, important intermediate metabolite of lipid biosynthesis and glycolysis, in the range 56 - 250 mM.
