Texto completoThe aim of the present study was to determine how graphic designers around the globe perceive Scandinavian graphic design. 53 participants from industrial countries around the world partook in the study, which used a combination method of mail interviews and questionnaires.The results of this study indicated that, regardless of continent, Scandinavian graphic design was perceived as simple and functional. The often grid-based layout favored the use of sans-serifs, white space and few graphic elements according to the participants in this study. Achromatic colors such as black, white, and grey without gradients and shadows were preferred. Followed by earthy and pastel hues. Motifs were used sparingly, but when they were, they depicted elements found in nature or geometric shapes. Photos and illustrations were perceived to be equally in use, with a slight inclination towards illustrations being used more. The perceived impact of Scandinavian graphic design was wide-ranging. The participants who found the impact to be high were due to advocating simplicity and functionality, intertwining design fields, and/or raising awareness of conscious graphic design. The participants, who found the impact to be low, believed that too little exposure was a contributing factor. Most participants in this study considered Scandinavian graphic design simpler in comparison to what they can see in their own countries. Furthermore, African, Asian and South American participants perceived the colors to be lower in chromatic value.

Texto completoVideo tutorials is common in teaching environments. Some tutorial producers record a simple screen recording while others add graphical elements to attract the user's attention to specific parts of the screen. Currently, no guidelines exist on how a video tutorial should be presented. Guidelines would not only help the producers but more importantly, the users. In this study, two platforms using video tutorials were analysed; LinkedIn Learning and SkillShare. These platforms were analysed to collect requirements that, together with a literature study, specified the requirements later used for the design of the prototype. The prototype was examined by 14 students using the A/B-testing method, as well as being reviewed by an expert within human computer interaction (HCI). The result of this study indicates that graphical elements is an important part of video tutorials, as they help the users to focus on important and relevant elements explained by the instructor. A result from the study is a list of recommendations for video tutorials.

Texto completoThis work covers applications of one of the vector graphics format – SVG in internet applications, sites. The work presents four SVG usage variants – “SVG with JavaScript and CSS”, “SVG behind JavaScript objects”, “SVG behind XBL elements”, “SVG and symbol/use elements”. In every case examples of implementing user interface elements are given. Also advantages and disadvantages are listed for mentioned methods. As an example vector graphics redactor was implemented in four different ways, which shows that SVG can be used for today’s applications. The work describes common SVG integration principles in the web, briefly compares SVG and Flash, introduces four SVG usage variants, user graphics interface elements, gives recommendations which method is better according to chosen criteria.

Texto completoThe thesis deals with web design problems, when designers create web templates. Second chapter deals with considering basic file formats such as JPG, PNG and GIF, their advantages and disadvantages. There are analysed problems of image file format selection, network bandwidth usage and dependance from the web site size also the review of commonly used web graphics software and image compression comparison. Third chapter deals with web graphics development and optimization system. There is use case model for describing functional requirements of a system. In the work is described the architecture of a system, detailed description of class diagram with used methods and functions description in detail. All classes are clearly explained by usage and interface. Also third chapter deals with activity diagrams represented as step-by-step workflows of major components in a system. Testing material of created web graphics development and optimization system is given too. Fourth chapter deals with user documentation. There are explained menu items, drawing tools, and their parameters, color selection tools, transparency, brightness, image compression settings and image viewing and converting tools.

Texto completoFor my bachelor degree work I created motion graphics short films which are suited to be shown at schools for children, as well the creation of them are written down in this work and can be used for school as a methodical instructions how these kind of films can be made. My work inspired by Ivan Krylov - a classic well known in the world Russian fables writer. This way my motion graphics films have a deep educational value. To create them I mainly used Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Flash, Sony Vegas and Audacity computer software. My work is great methodical instructions for young art and design teachers who want to teach their students how to use computer software basics for creative tasks. To create my motion graphics films I used computer software which is highly used by today's professional digital artists.

Texto completoIn this dissertation nurse rostering problem is investigated. The formulation of the problem is based on real-world data of one of the largest healthcare centers in Lithuania. Most recent publications that tackle the nurse rostering problem and the methods for solving the nurse rostering problem are reviewed in this dissertation. The mathematical formulation of the single objective and the multi-objective nurse rostering problem is presented and the requirements for the roster are described in the second chapter. In the third chapter, the methods for solving the single objective and the multi-objective nurse rostering problem are described. A new method for solving the single objective and the multi-objective nurse rostering problem is proposed in the third chapter. In the fourth chapter, the experimental results of our proposed method are introduced. In the first section of this chapter, the results gathered solving single-objective optimization problem are analyzed, and in the second section of this chapter, the results gathered solving multi-objective optimization problem are analyzed. Dissertation research results were presented at one national conference and three international conferences and published in three scientific journals.

Texto completoDenna studie behandlar yrkesrollen grafisk formgivare och undersöker nio utvalda grafiska formgivares åsikter om strategiarbete i designprojekt. De personer som ingår i studien är fast anställda på designbyråer i Stockholm. Studien har en kvalitativ ansats och bygger på samtalsintervjuer. Vi har valt att undersöka detta ämne då det finns en uppfattning i branschen om att strategiarbete inom grafisk formgivning har ökat under de senaste årtiondena. Det finns en tro bland yrkesutövare om att strategiarbetet i vissa fall upptar en för stor del av designprocessen och att det främst används som ett argument för att kunna ta bättre betalt av kunden. Vidare undersöks oklarheter kring att yrkesrollen grafisk formgivare upplevs som diffus då personer som går under samma titel ändå kan utföra olika arbetsuppgifter. Studien visar på att det finns en genomgående åsikt bland de tillfrågade respondenterna om att strategiarbete i ett designprojekt ger stöd för projektets genomförande, dels för det interna arbetet och dels för att en kund är involverad i processen. Studien visar på att det finns en genomgående åsikt om att alla formgivares strategiska arbetsprocess är individuell och ter sig olika beroende på projektet och designbyråns utformning. Respondenterna gemensamma åsikt är att de oftast först tar fram en strategi som sedan mynnar ut i en idé och att de sällan arbetar utifrån en idé som inte föregås av en instuderingsfas. Den mest förekommande åsikten hos respondenterna är att ju färre personer som arbetar i ett designprojekt desto större krav ställs det på att den grafiska formgivaren kan arbeta strategiskt. Studien visar dessutom att respondenterna har en liknande åsikt om att yrkets bredd gör innebörden av yrkesrollen grafisk formgivare svår att definiera.

Resumo: As cargas de carbono, tais como grafite, nanotubos de carbono, fulerenos e mais recentemente o grafite tem atraído a atenção de inúmeros pesquisadores, que buscam formas de aproveitar suas excepcionais propriedades elétricas no desenvolvimento de compósitos com potenciais aplicações nas áreas de sensores eletroquímicos, células solares, barreira eletromagnética entre outras. Neste trabalho teve-se como objetivo o desenvolvimento de compósitos baseados em poli(estireno-co-butadieno-co-estireno) ¿ SBS e as cargas de carbono, grafite e grafite. Para tanto, o grafite foi obtido pela oxidação do grafite empregando-se a metodologia de Hummers, seguida de redução por hidrazina. Os compósitos de grafite e "grafite¿ foram preparados por mistura mecânica e por casting de soluções em diferentes solventes na faixa de composição de 0,5 a 10 % em massa de carga. O processamento mecânico resultou em compósitos que apresentaram comportamento mecânico dependente do tipo e quantidade de carga. Porém, esses compósitos apresentaram-se como isolantes elétricos devido a não formação de uma rede de percolação. A matriz de SBS nos compósitos obtidos por casting apresentou morfologia dependente do solvente empregado, o que se deve aos parâmetros de solubilidade dos solventes e dos blocos de poliestireno e polibutadieno do SBS, e a dispersão da carga pela matriz foi mais uniforme do que no caso de compósitos preparados por mistura mecânica, promovendo uma melhora nas propriedades mecânicas e conferindo propriedades de condução elétrica
Abstract: Carbon fillers such as graphite, carbon nanotubes, fullerenes and currently graphene have attracted the attention of many researchers, due to their exceptional and useful electrical properties for the development of composites with potential applications in electrochemical sensors, solar cells, electromagnetic barrier, and so on. The objective of the herewith work is the development of composites made up of poly(styrene-co-butadiene-co-styrene) ¿ SBS and carbon fillers (graphite or graphene). The graphene was obtained by oxidation of the graphite by the Hummers¿ method, followed by hydrazine¿s reduction. The graphite and graphene - based composites were prepared by melt compounding and by solvent casting using different organic solvents in a composition range of 0,5 to 10% in weight of filler. The results showed that the melt compounding produced composites with mechanical properties dependent on the type and amount of filler. Also, these composites behave as electrical insulators due to the absence of percolation thresholds. The morphology of SBS matrix in the composites obtained by solvent casting is determined by the organic solvent, more specifically by the interaction paramenter of solvent and of the polybutadiene and polystyrene blocks of the SBS. The filler dispersion throughout the matrix in the composites obtained by solvent-casting was more uniform than the dispersion level in the composites obtained by melt compounding. Texto completoThe aim with this bachelor thesis was to apply rhizomatics as an approach when creating game graphics. We choose rhizomatics as an approach because we believed that the creative part of 3D-graphics was stagnating. The purpose was to possibly broaden the horizons within the creative part of 3D-graphics to present new and interesting ways of working with it. Rhizomatics as an approach turned problematic when applied to hierarchical software programs. To constantly have this approach during the practical work, turned out to be difficult to control. The reason being is that the rhizomatic itself lacks structure and to try to control rhizomatics on a practical level became almost impossible. We realized that the rhizomatics was too free to be used as a consistant approach when it comes to creating 3D-graphics. We tried to control the rhizomatics during the practical work and came to the conclusion that it does not become a rhizomatic work.

Texto completoJag har under en period motsvarande 10 veckor på heltid utvecklat ett grafiskt konfigurations-verktyg för konfiguration av ftp-servern ioFTPD [4]. ioFTPD är en relativt ny ftp-server för Windows som är resurssnål och högpresterande [4]. ioFTPD utvecklas av iniCom Networks [4] som även utvecklar den kända ftp-klienten FlashFXP [4].
Idén till att utveckla ett grafiskt konfigurationsprogram kom till eftersom det inte fanns några grafiska verktyg för vare sig konfiguration eller övervakning av servern. Eftersom det inte fanns något användarvänligt grafiskt konfigurationsverktyg var användaren tvungen att editera ioFTPD:s konfigurationsfil manuellt. Manuell editering av en så stor fil gör det lätt att införa fel.
Mina delmål var att skapa tre grafiska applikationer för att hjälpa till att konfigurera och övervaka ioFTPD-servern.

Huvudmålet var att implementera det grafiska konfigurationsverktyget, vilket jag gjorde. Jag är nöjd med slutprodukten även om det finns detaljer som kan förbättras.
Under projektets gång har jag bland annat förbättrat mina kunskaper i C++ och Win32-programmering, samt att jag insett vikten av att göra en genomtänkt design innan man påbörjar implementationen.
I have, during a period of ten weeks, full time, developed a configuration utility, featuring a graphical user interface for the configuration of the ftp server ioFTPD [4]. ioFTPD is a relatively new high performance and resource efficient ftp daemon [4] for Windows. ioFTPD is developed by iniCom Networks [4], who also develop the popular ftp client FlashFXP. [4]
Because ioFTPD lacks graphical applications for the configuration and monitoring, the idea to develop a graphical configuration utility arose. Since there was no user friendly graphical configuration utility, the user manually had to edit ioFPTD's configuration file. Manually editing such a big file could easily result in error introduction.
My goals were to develop three graphical applications to aid in the configuration and monitoring of the ioFTDP server.
• A graphical configuration utility
• A monitoring application
• A vfs-editor to aid in the creation and editing of the virtual file system
The main goal was to implement the graphical configuration utility, which I did. I'm satisfied with the result even though there are details that could be improved.
During the project I have improved my knowledge with C++ and programming
with the Windows API. I've also realized the importance of doing a thoroughly thought through design before one starts the implementation.

O foco desta dissertação é a narrativa visual sobre a cidade de Blumenau por meio da Revista Blumenau em Cadernos, periódico dedicado à história de Santa Catarina. No decorrer da pesquisa, relacionou-se a revista com o seu fundador, José Ferreira da Silva, um intelectual com considerável produção sobre a história de Blumenau enquanto escritor e jornalista, para então estabelecer a trajetória da revista, assim como sua linha editorial. A narrativa visual presente na Revista Blumenau em Cadernos evidencia a presença de alguns personagens constantes nas suas edições, em que são reproduzidas fotografias do final do século XIX e início do século XX. Nelas figuram os primeiros colonizadores e os indígenas, formando uma narrativa sobre a colonização de Blumenau, constituindo o mito fundador local. Faz-se uma leitura da narrativa fotográfica sobre a cidade de Blumenau do século XIX aos anos 50, quando se comemorou o centenário da cidade. Estas imagens dos postais, criadas inicialmente para divulgar a cidade, também evidenciam uma narrativa do progresso em que o presente é compreendido como resultado do passado. Estas imagens perpetuam os espaços de memória da cidade ao serem selecionadas para ilustrar os textos veiculados na Revista Blumenau em Cadernos, nesta narrativa temos a repetição do mito fundador da cidade. The focus in this paper is the visual narrative about Blumenau city through the magazine Blumenau em Cadernos, which is dedicated to the history of Santa Catarina, mainly to the local history. Throughout the research, the magazine was related to its founder, José Ferreira da Silva, an intellectual with considerable production about Blumenau history while writer and journalist, to so establish the magazine trajectory, as well as its editorial line. The visual narrative present in the magazine Blumenau em Cadernos evidences the presence of some constant characters in its editions, in which are reproduced photographs taken between the end of the nineteenth century and the beginning of the twentieth century. In them are the first settlers and the Indians, forming a narrative about the colonization of Blumenau, constituting the local founder myth. It is made a reading on the photographic narrative about Blumenau from the nineteenth century, the fifties, when it was commemorated the city centennial. This narrative began with three photographic images of Blumenau Settlement and continued with two series of postcards: one from 1900 with 45 cards, and another from the twenties, with 25 cards. These images from the postcards, created initially to spread the city, also evidence a narrative of the progress in which the present moment is understood as a result from the past. These images perpetuate the city memory spaces as they were selected to illustrate the texts published in the magazine Blumenau em Cadernos, in this narrative there is the repetition of the city founder myth.
