Resumen
Abstract Based on his unpublished memoirs, this essay describes the university and practical training of Fritz Beblo (1872–1947), who was in charge of the Building department of Strasbourg from 1903 to 1918. Beblo was a student of the architecture teacher Carl Schäfer in Karlsruhe, who was the starting point of a wide-ranging network of architects: the Schäfer students formed a sworn fraternity and supported each other in their professional advancement. Thus, out of loyalty to his teacher and his fraternity, Beblo only hired employees who had studied under Schäfer. In this way, he simultaneous

Proteins can be used as building blocks of functional materials for electrochemical applications due to their structural properties and the possibility to tailor their ionic and electronic conductive properties.[1] One of the most attractive applications is in the bioelectronics field, for example as energy storage devices such as Electrical Double Layer Capacitors (EDLCs), due to the nontoxicity and biocompatibility of the materials.[2] EDLCs are primarily used for applications where high power is required during a short period of time. They present several advantages, such as fast charge-dis

Resumen
AbstractFor an integer linear optimization (ILO) problem, persistency of its linear optimization (LO) relaxation is a property that for every optimal solution of the relaxation that assigns integer values to some variables, there exists an optimal solution of the ILO problem in which these variables retain the same values. Although persistency has been used to develop heuristic, approximation, and fixed-parameter algorithms for special cases of ILO, its applicability remains unknown in the literature. In this paper, we reveal a maximal subclass of ILO such that its LO relaxation has persistenc

We consider the Hypergraph-k-Cut problem. The input consists of a hypergraph [Formula: see text] with nonnegative hyperedge-costs [Formula: see text] and a positive integer k. The objective is to find a minimum cost subset [Formula: see text] such that the number of connected components in G – F is at least k. An alternative formulation of the objective is to find a partition of V into k nonempty sets [Formula: see text] so as to minimize the cost of the hyperedges that cross the partition. Graph-k-Cut, the special case of Hypergraph-k-Cut obtained by restricting to graph inputs, has received

We study here the semisupervised k-clustering problem where information is available on whether pairs of objects are in the same or different clusters. This information is available either with certainty or with a limited level of confidence. We introduce the pair-wise confidence constraints clustering (PCCC) algorithm, which iteratively assigns objects to clusters while accounting for the information provided on the pairs of objects. Our algorithm uses integer programming for the assignment of objects, which allows us to include relationships as hard constraints that are guaranteed to be sati

Resumen
AbstractThe $$1\vert \text {s-batch}(\infty ),r_j\vert \sum w_jU_j$$ 1 | s-batch ( ∞ ) , r j | ∑ w j U j scheduling problem takes as input a batch setup time $$\Delta $$ Δ and a set of n jobs, each having a processing time, a release date, a weight, and a due date; the task is to find a sequence of batches that minimizes the weighted number of tardy jobs. This problem was introduced by Hochbaum and Landy (Oper Res Lett 16(2):79–86, 1994); as a wide generalization of Knapsack, it is $$\textsf{NP}$$ NP -hard.
