Resumen
Landscape researchers tend to reduce the diversity of tangible heritage to physical aspects of cultural landscapes, from the wealth of intangible heritage they focus on land-use practices which have a direct and visible impact on the landscape. We suggest a comprehensive assessment of both tangible and intangible heritage, in order to more accurately assess the interconnection of local identity and the shaping of cultural landscapes. As an example, we looked at Saxon culture and cultural landscapes in southern Transylvania (Romania), where we assessed features of tangible and intangible cultural heritage, identified their resilience and the driving forces of their change. Our analysis, based on 74 interviews with residents in ten villages in southern Transylvania, showed a high resilience of tangible heritage and a low resilience of intangible heritage. A major factor responsible for changes in the Saxon heritage was a decline in the population at the end of the Cold War, due to migration, driven by political and economic factors. We conclude by discussing the specific merits of such an analysis for integrated landscape management.

Resumen
Heritage has been defined differently in European contexts. Despite differences, a common challenge for historic urban landscape management is the integration of tangible and intangible heritage. Integration demands an active view of perception and human-landscape interaction where intangible values are linked to specific places and meanings are attached to particular cultural practices and socio-spatial organisation. Tangible and intangible values can be examined as part of a system of affordances (potentialities) a place, artefact or cultural practice has to offer. This paper discusses how an ‘affordance analysis’ may serve as a useful tool for the management of historic urban landscapes.

Resumen
The widely recognized definition of ‘Cultural Landscape’ in current practice is borrowed from UNESCO as Combined works of Nature and of Man.1 They are complex entities consisting of multiple layering of built-unbuilt components including intangible cultural aspects. These components are interrelated and interdependent. The landscape evolves together through combined natural and cultural processes. In current discourse and practice of heritage management, value-based assessment is a widely accepted approach. Evaluation of cultural landscapes for its Significance and Value is a complex process that requires an understanding of interwoven layers of components and attributes.2 Systematic understanding of such relationships between components and attributes is still in its infancy. Amongst various such identified intangible agencies, this study chooses to explore music. A study of secondary sources was undertaken. Cultural landscapes nominated as World Heritage Sites and identified Indian sites were systematically examined to understand various components and attributes. Using the indicators from this study and the theoretical framework of sociomusicology, a research design was prepared. Recognizing the historical association of music with the sites on the Kaveri river basin in peninsular India, a reconnaissance study was undertaken for onsite validation. Musical associations were spatially mapped for analysis and the findings are presented. Systematic understanding of the relationships between components of a cultural landscape and intangible cultural traditions is still in its infancy. The undertaken study is an exploratory work that focuses on understanding the relationship between components of a cultural landscape and ‘intangible attributes’, especially music. A study of secondary sources was undertaken in two parts. In the first part, concept of cultural landscape has been explored. Cultural landscapes nominated as World Heritage Sites were systematically examined to understand various components and attributes. The knowledge helped in formation of indicators for evaluation of cultural landscapes. In the second part of the study, selected case studies of Indian cultural landscapes were studies with the developed indicators. Musical traditions existing in these sites were theoretically reduced to basic components and mapped for analysis.

Resumen
Pierre Bourdieu (1986) introduced the concept of capitals as forms of intangible resources that individual use to advance their socio-economic status. Past relevant researches have not focused on all Bourdieu capitals. This study conceptualises the Bourdieu capitals to empirically determine the intangible resources of Malaysian leader landscape architects. The aim of this study is to determine the type of capitals of leader landscape architects in Malaysian landscape architecture firms. All landscape architecture firms (73 nos.) in the database of the Institute of Landscape Architects Malaysia were chosen for the survey. The firms were given the letter of invitation and questionnaires through the post. Thirty-nine firms responded to the invitation which resulted in 90 subordinates landscape architects and assistant landscape architects as respondents. The subordinates were asked to rate their leaders’ (landscape architects) capitals. The data were analysed using descriptive statistics and factor analysis. Factor analysis findings generated 5 factors (capitals). The capitals are social, human, emotional, cultural and design authority. The study findings provide evidence of the validity of scales to measure the intangible resources of the leading landscape architects in Malaysian landscape architecture firms. It also suggests a new research perspective for the Trait Theory of Leadership by replacing the traits with Bourdieu’s forms of capitals.

Abstract. The rapid development of industrialization and urbanization brought about changes in the economic structure, forms of production and lifestyle, resulting in deterioration of the natural and human environment, as well as many intangible cultural landscape degradation. To display intangible cultural heritage landscape in the form of eco-museum aims to achieve harmony between man and nature and human environment. Eco-museum with community residents’ participation in live state display is the way to retain the cultural heritage, is a means of protecting intangible cultural heritage and tradition. In this paper, based on the concept of ecological museum theory and practice, the author makes an overview of the history of establishment of eco-museums in accordance with our national conditions, to avoid the homogenization of intangible cultural heritage display modes, and to improve the cultural landscape heterogeneity and retain historical memory of diverse cultures, to protect natural and cultural environment of the country.

Resumen
Though agricultural landscape biodiversity and ecosystem service (ES) conservation is crucial to sustainability, agricultural land is often underrepresented in ES studies, while cultural ES associated with agricultural land is often limited to aesthetic and tourism recreation value only. This study mapped 7 nonmaterial-intangible cultural ES (NICE) valuations of 34 rural farmers in western Taiwan using the Social Values for Ecosystem Services (SolVES) methodology, to show the effect of farming practices on NICE valuations. However, rather than a direct causal relationship between the environmental characteristics that underpin ES, and respondents’ ES valuations, we found that environmental data is not explanatory enough for causality within a socio-ecological production landscape where one type of land cover type (a micro mosaic of agricultural land cover) predominates. To compensate, we used a place-based approach with Google Maps data to create context-specific data to inform our assessment of NICE valuations. Based on 338 mapped points of 7 NICE valuations distributed among 6 areas within the landscape, we compared 2 groups of farmers and found that farmers’ valuations about their landscape were better understood when accounting for both the landscape’s cultural places and environmental characteristics, rather than environmental characteristics alone. Further, farmers’ experience and knowledge influenced their NICE valuations such that farm areas were found to be sources of multiple NICE benefits demonstrating that farming practices may influence ES valuation in general.

Resumen
The research attempted to discover the impact of displacement phenomena on the identity of landscape, by using Janet Stephenson’s Cultural Values Model to study and analyze cultural landscapes. The model was chosen due to its universality, simplicity and embodiment of the relational concept of landscape perception and evaluation. The result of landscape evaluation depends on the characteristics of both landscape and observer, as well as on the relation of the object and subject. In order to understand the complexity and diversity of landscape and its identity, these were analyzed through a ternary system, consisting of forms, practices, and relationships, i.e. what is seen, what is happening and what it means to those who see and use it. The research represents a feasible and pragmatic approach to understand the complexity of landscape and its identity, by tracing back their retrospective changes due to the impact of displacement phenomena – a shift of objects, behaviours or relationships. Through this theoretical and methodological model, multiple universal correlational patterns were developing, in which the three components encountering the displacement behave and interact with each other, leading to an ambiguous impact on landscape identity and the socio-cultural quality of the human living environment. By studying and time-tracking different landscape cases that experienced major displacements from around the world to one of landscape’s systemic components, the research results show some regular patterns in landscape identity changes, and how its structural tangible and intangible system performs and effects in creating, or destroying landscape identity, defying the limits of spatial and historical context.

Resumen
This article analyses the role of monasteries as a sacred space and how their relationship with tourism depicts a landscape of 'good taste'. Monasteries are examples of both tangible and intangible heritage, and are highly symbolic built spaces that have often become the guardians of tradition. They are strongly embedded within a local cultural landscape, which has determined their historical evolution. Monasteries used to be self-sufficient communities that relied on the resources available in their local environment, e.g. they produced their own wine, which was essential for the celebration of the Eucharist; or they preserved food from their own produce. Gastronomy in monasteries can be a tool to improve tourists' visitor experience, in so far as it respects the values that these sacred spaces represent. This article explores the literature on monasteries as sacred spaces; the relationship between their tangible and intangible heritage attributes; and how monasteries and their heritage are linked to tourism. This is illustrated through examples from Spain.

Resumen

This dissertation is site driven, emerging from an interest in the controversy and resultant inspired community input surrounding the Princess Vlei wetland. It explores the approaches of designing for a natural open space that a community is strongly connected to by uncovering distinct meanings in the vast natural landscape of Princess Vlei and embodying them in an architectural and landscape intervention. This dissertation proposes enhancing site experience through the use of poetic landscape and built strategies, while simultaneously supporting and diversifying current activities by means of pragmatic considerations of program. An exploration into the history, legend, memory and imaginings associated with Princess Vlei illustrate that landscape is not simply made up of physical attributes, but holds intangible values. The variety of human expression and activity that take place at the vlei define it as a cultural space whereby the practices and relationship of the community with the site are what form its unique character and provide a strong basis for it to be conserved and enhanced. The increasing pressure of urbanisation and commercialism have led to contestation over the use of land on the eastern bank of the wetland. The proposal of the City to sell the land to private developers for the construction of a mall on the wetland's banks inspired counter-proposals by environmental organisations. These have in turn inspired this dissertation project which puts forward a more meaningful approach to green spaces in the city. The project is built upon community driven imaginings and embodying intangible qualities of landscape through an evocative intervention that captures memories that run the risk of being lost through inappropriate development.

Resumen
The Tswaing Meteorite Crater, formed 220 000 years ago, on the farm of Zoutpan, (or also known as the Pretoria Saltpan), had been a topographic and geological riddle for a long period of time. The gathering of salt from the crater was its main attraction for many groups that flocked to the crater, which later became an important beacon of infrastructure, becoming the largest producer of Soda and Salt in the Transvaal in the early 1900’s. Knowledge is an intangible quality of the cultural landscape and its history which can be lost in the blink of an eye if it is not preserved, commemorated and conserved for future generations. Through the investigation of Inclusive Design and the application of its principles, the narrative which is Tswaing, can be made accessible to all by revealing the concealed narrative of the place, tangible and intangible, through time. The afterthought or lack of design for disabled individuals can be seen in many projects. By ensuring accessibility is part of the design process from the onset of the project, valuable resources are not needlessly wasted later. As a result the cultural landscape and its secrets can be uncovered and shared with all.

This work consists in investigating two cultural events that occur in the Mucuripe neighborhood, Fortaleza: The celebration of Sao Pedro and the celebration of Nossa Senhora da SaÃde. What sparked interest for this research was the record in 2011 as official manifest of Fortaleza held by the Conselho Municipal de PatrimÃnio HistÃrico e Cultural (COMPHIC). The questioning arises from the strong presence of Nossa Senhora da SaÃde in the construction of religious imagery in Mucuripe neighborhood, represented by her image during the celebration of SÃo Pedro, as patron of the SÃo Pedro dos Pescadores Churchy. We observed the imagetic regimes of the festivities, supported by Durand, realizing the extent to which the images produced in the festivities influence on the record. Thus, we intend to analyze the festive landscapes built during the festivities, highlighting the dynamics of the day and night imagetic regimes, looking at the relationship of these with public policies for the protection of intangible cultural heritage. To carry out this research, we used bibliography references in the geographic field which discuss the cultural manifestations in space and the scenery reproduced in the celebration. The reference from authors of the Psychology and Anthropology fields had a significant importance to this research, as well as the application of a hundred questionnaires in both manifestations observed, using Geography's cultural approach to evidentiate the relationship between the festive scenery reproduced with the process of non registration of the intangible cultural heritage of the city. We can realize the relationship between the festive landscapes and the public politics about cultural heritage.

Son esprit s'y révèle être une émotion insaisissable ressentie dans tous les environs, entre passé et présent, matériel et immatériel; ABSTRACT: Set at the crossroads of heritage and landscape studies, this thesis investigates the concept of the spirit of place in the Ovcar – Kablar Gorge, an area of religious and natural heritage in southwestern Serbia. Popularly known as “Holy Mountain’’, the gorge is protected as a landscape of outstanding beauty and features, with significant elements of geological heritage and biodiversity. It is also a unique cultural and historic site with ten medieval Orthodox monasteries and two church caves that preserve around five centuries of living religious practice. The research seeks to examine the elements that contribute to the spirit of this sacred landscape, as well as the means of its transmission and the instruments of representation. Applying a concept of an itinerary that connects the sacred places in the area, the study delves into the intertwined relationship that exists between people and the landscape. Grounded in phenomenological approach, the methodology married historical analysis with narrative research, using a dialogue with residents of the local community, to document a narrative of living landscape that is at the same time a place of worship and a telltale of power. Echoing understanding of the “lived experience” between “insideness” and “outsideness”, practice based research introduced drawing to examine how a spirit of place arises in the intimate encounter of self and the landscape. Following the guidance of the narrative and sense of place, the research wove a story of the landscape of the Ovcar – Kablar Gorge as the one in which its spirit reveals itself as an unfathomable emotion felt throughout the environs, shapeshifting between the past and the present, and between tangible and intangible.

The research focus Mondego River cultural landscapes changes and its main goal is to propose their revaluation and revitalization by a territorial project centered on cultural heritage. The Mondego River Heritage Park (MRHP) lay on heritage areas rehabilitation experiences and take several lessons on scientific studies upon them. Paying a special attention to issues such as sustainability, intangible heritage, and visitor’s interface, the MHRP introduces an interactive and also intelligent use of new ICT. Eminently a communicative space, the MRHP offers a structured interpretation of the landscape and a new territory map expressed by critical elements: park area and boundaries, a set of selected heritage resources, interpretation centres, entrance gates and intermodal nodes, and finally, a dynamic and flexible system of pedagogical, leisure as well as touristic routes. The main hypothesis is that of the river persistence; it means that the river can be seen as a geographical and cultural matrix that prevails and synthesizes the territory identity, a productive identity, shaped by ancient labor activities. The project inquires on the permanencies and transformations in the relationship between river, landscapes and local communities. Conclusions highlight heritage park potentialities as an instrument for cultural landscapes management.

Bruschi, Viola Maria.

The present work addresses issues related to the identification, cataloguing evaluation, protection and utilisation of geodiversity's resources. One of the main difficulties to carry out such tasks lies in the subjectivity. The work presented here includes an initial inventory of sites of geological interest in the region of Cantabria. Then, a group of sites of geomorphologic interest has been selected to make comparisons between different evaluation methods, determine the degree of coincidence between the ranks of classifications obtained and make recommendations on the most advisable procedures. These methods make it possible to apply transparent, clearly defined criteria which can provide replicable results if applied by different operators and can therefore be subject to external test and scrutiny. The above methods can provide good results using only six parameters that express three significant qualities of sites: scientific interest or intrinsic quality; potential for use; threats for conservation. The type of evaluation methods described has been applied to design a method for the incorporation of geosites into the EIA process. In order to contribute to the valorisation of geodiversity's values, a series of specific proposals are presented for the protection and use of sites of geologic interest in Cantabria.

The main objective of this study is to demonstrate, in times of global economic crisis, how it is possible to combine economic growth needs and strategies for the protection and enhancement of the heritage in a sustainable way, starting from the assumption that tourism is one of possible areas for regional development, social integration and improvement of living conditions of local communities. The Campania Region and the Province of Caserta – territories object of study in Italy - have a unique cultural, landscape and intangible heritage but is not sufficiently protected and enhanced. To this end, the research analyzes and proposes policies for managing assets through the study of international "best practices", in particular in France, in the field of cultural tourism, seen as an engine for sustainable development of local communities. France, the first country in the world for number of international visitors, according to updated data, provided by the World Tourism Organizations, has developed a long-term government policy aimed at the protection and enhancement of heritage, through actions on assets, on the organizational structure of the institution in charge, and targeted promotion of all art forms of intellectual production. In Italy, however, the management strategy has often shown inadequate compared to the international prestige of the country for its cultural, landscape, food, wine and intangible heritage, with a limited growth of economy if compared with this heritage’s potential with the consequent negative effect on heritage

The biotope and species inventory of various fortifications of the 19th century in Germany, Poland and Lithuania was examined through vegetation-ecological field studies. One aim of the study was to evaluate the locations for integration into the FFH biotope network, supplemented by evaluations of historical aerial photos and Sentinel2 remote sensing data. Investigated fortifications tended to reforest in recent decades due to the lack of use and maintenance of the open land areas. Within a few decades, urban forest-like sites have developed here at the investigated sites. A development towards site-typical expressions of PNV or other communities, which could be designated as FFH biotopes according to Annex I of the Habitats Directive, has not been observed. High biotope qualities in open land biotopes and other types were not observed Fortresses and their biotopes can be designated as Novel Ecosystems and should only be integrated as such into the biotope network. Satellite based evaluations only provide a limited picture of the small-scale nature and diversity of local biotope structures. The lack of maintenance and use of fortresses as well as emerging forest stands cause successive degradation and damage to the building fabric. There is no nature conservation justification for the fundamental lack of remediation and preservation of building fabric, even though these sites often have habitats for species listed in Annex IV of the Habitats Directive. In contrast, the care and preservation of the cultural heritage "fortifications" is even demanded by the European nature conservation and cultural agenda, as they have an intrinsic pan-European cultural value in addition to still unspecified nature and recreational value. This is even reflected by the aim of the Habitats Directive. This must be taken into account in local spatial and nature conservation planning and in regional land management.

Resumen
This book explores the various avenues—institutional, substantive, and procedural—for the protection of landscape in international law. Since the inclusion of ‘cultural landscapes’ within the scope of the UNESCO World Heritage Convention in 1992, landscape has gained increasing importance at the international level. ‘Cultural landscapes’ were intended to give recognition to the intangible and associative values attached to certain landscapes, to sustainable agricultural practices, and to ‘people and communities’—essentially the human dimension of landscape. This shift came full circle with the adoption of the European Landscape Convention (ELC) in 2000. The European Landscape Convention conceives of landscape above all as a people’s landscape and accordingly, provides for the active participation of the public in the formulation of plans and polices. It not only focuses on outstanding landscapes, but also on the everyday and degraded landscapes where most people live and work. This brings ‘landscape’ back to its early etymological origins—when it corresponded to a close up, human perspective—and has a number of implications for human rights, democracy, and spatial justice. How does international law, which deals for the most part with universality, deal with something so region-specific and particular as landscape? What is the legal conception of landscape and what are the various roles played by international law in its protection? This book assesses the institutional framework for landscape protection, analyses the interplay between landscape and human rights, and links the etymology and theory of landscape with its articulation in law.

Chapter 4 traces the origins of international landscape law, particularly in the soft law instruments adopted under the auspices of UNESCO and the Council of Europe. This first phase of international landscape law retains a strong conceptual dependency upon aesthetics and nature, which slowly began to change towards a more people-centred approach in the early 1990s. This is evident in the developments made in protected areas designation and other environmental regimes, such as the Convention on Biological Diversity, which began to include intangible heritage, relationships between people and place, and local knowledge in the consideration of landscape and land use management.

Resumen
Public heritage practice in American cities has largely focused on the physical landscape of the European-based majority culture. As the nation’s urban areas continue to become more culturally diverse, preservationists have begun to explore new approaches to serve the needs of minority populations through community development planning. Examples include programs in San Francisco that focus less on physical fabric and more on the intangible cultural aspects associated with marginalized groups, and the work of Project Row Houses in Houston, which uses the historic building fabric of an African-American minority community as a canvas for expressing the group’s experience within the majority society. While US public heritage practice still lags behind in its representation of America’s diversity, the ability of preservationists to combine more subjective tools like intangible culture and artistic place-making with community development planning can help prevent the displacement of minority cultures from their traditional locations due to development pressure.

Resumen
In recent years, Japan’s cuisine, or washoku, has been eclipsing that of France as the world’s most desirable food. UNESCO recognized washoku as an intangible cultural treasure in 2013, and Tokyo boasts more Michelin-starred restaurants than Paris and New York combined. Together with anime, pop music, fashion, and cute goods, cuisine is part of the “Cool Japan” brand that promotes the country as a new kind of cultural superpower. This book offers insights into many different aspects of Japanese culinary history and practice, from the evolution and characteristics of particular foodstuffs, to their representation in literature and film, to the role of foods in individual, regional, and national identity. It features contributions by both noted Japan specialists and experts in food history. The book poses the question, “What is washoku?” What culinary values are imposed or implied by this term? Which elements of Japanese cuisine are most visible in the global gourmet landscape and why? Chapters from a variety of disciplinary perspectives interrogate how foodways have come to represent aspects of a “unique” Japanese identity and are infused with official and unofficial ideologies. They reveal how Japanese culinary values and choices, past and present, reflect beliefs about gender, class, and race; how they are represented in mass media; and how they are interpreted by state and nonstate actors, at home and abroad. Chapters examine the thoughts, actions, and motives of those who produce, consume, promote, and represent Japanese foods.

Resumen
The field of cultural heritage is no longer solely dependent on the expertise of art and architectural historians, archaeologists, conservators, curators, and site and museum administrators. It has dramatically expanded across disciplinary boundaries and social contexts and now includes vernacular architecture, intangible cultural practices, knowledge, and language, performances, and rituals, as well as cultural landscapes. Heritage has become entangled with the broader social, political, and economic contexts in which heritage is created, managed, transmitted, protected, or destroyed. Heritage protection now encompasses a growing set of methodological approaches whose objectives are not necessarily focused upon the maintenance of material fabric, traditionally cultural heritage’s primary concern. Rather, these objectives have become explicitly social with methods foregrounding public engagement, diverse values, and community-based action. Thus, we introduce the term “public heritage” as a way of bringing together these emerging practices. This handbook charts major sites of convergence between the humanities and the social sciences—where new disciplinary perspectives are being brought to bear on public heritage. This introduction outlines the potential contributions of development studies, political science, anthropology, management studies, human geography, ecology, psychology, sociology, cognitive studies, and education to the field of public heritage.

The field of cultural heritage is no longer solely dependent on the expertise of art and architectural historians, archaeologists, conservators, curators, and site and museum administrators. It has dramatically expanded across disciplinary boundaries and social contexts, with even the basic definition of what constitutes cultural heritage being widened far beyond the traditional categories of architecture, artifacts, archives, and art. Heritage now includes vernacular architecture, intangible cultural practices, knowledge, and language, performances, and rituals, as well as cultural landscapes. Heritage has also become increasingly entangled with the broader social, political, and economic contexts in which heritage is created, managed, transmitted, protected, or even destroyed. Heritage protection now encompasses a growing set of methodological approaches whose objectives are not necessarily focused upon the maintenance of material fabric, which has traditionally been cultural heritage’s primary concern. This handbook charts some of the major sites of convergence between the humanities and the social sciences—where new disciplinary perspectives are being brought to bear on heritage. These convergences have the potential to provide the inter-disciplinary expertise needed not only to critique but also to achieve the intertwined intellectual, political, and socio-economic goals of cultural heritage in the twenty-first century. This volume highlights the potential contributions of development studies, political science, anthropology, management studies, human geography, ecology, psychology, sociology, cognitive studies, and education to heritage studies and management.

Resumen
AbstractThe Banda Primitiva de Llíria is presented as an open heritage resource, which has been built on the uses, values and symbols assigned to it by the local town of Llíria and its inhabitants over the musical society’s two centuries of history. This work focuses on analysing how this musical phenomenon contributes to positioning creativity and cultural industries at the centre of local development, reinforcing the identity elements of Llíria and the Valencian Region. It intends to support the safeguarding, respect and awareness of one of the oldest civic bands in Spain, providing greater visibility and creating positive recognition of the fundamental importance of this form of intangible cultural heritage for social cohesion and development, in an environment that is transformed into one of collective action, shared culture and creativity.

Resumen
Lemon houses (limonaie) are ancient terraced citrus gardens that shape the landscape along the NW shore of Lake Garda (Northern Italy). We propose an interpretation of limonaie as a deeply anthropogenic, labour intensive, multifunctional landscape that shares many characteristics with the oases of the wider Mediterranean basin. Any intervention which aims at preserving the fragility and peculiarity of the area, as well as the intangible cultural heritage of the citrus cultivation, should be framed in a holistic agroecosystemic perspective, deeply rooted in the knowledge of the limonaie past.

Resumen
Part III of the book focusses on Zvërnec, a small village located in the southern part of the Lagoon of Nartë, on a promontory over a small gulf (Gjiri i Vogël), which looks like a miniature of the ‘great’ Gulf of Vlorë (Gjiri i Vlorës). Zvërnec is part of the Protected Landscape Vjosë-Nartë and is well-known for the suggestive island which hosts the Byzantine church of the Dormition of Mary (Category I Cultural Monument), which every year attracts many faithful and tourists alike, both Albanian and foreign. In the first chapters, the importance of the intangible heritage is stressed. In Zvërnec the cultural traditions in the lagoon area play a pivotal role, especially the fishing tradition together with the culinary tradition connected to sea products. In the following chapters, the multiple aspects of the tangible heritage are analysed. The protected landscape of Vjosë-Nartë requested a special attention. It includes a number of habitats, which constitute one of the most significant assets in terms of biodiversity at a national level. Unfortunately, both active and dismantled industrial sites present in the area as well as questionable development policies, threaten the fragile and delicate lagoon landscape. As far as the built heritage is concerned, the Church of the Dormition of Mary, traditional dwellings and the abandoned military heritage were thoroughly analysed. For each of the aforementioned issues, the theoretical and historical analysis are closely bound to an evaluation of those features of the cultural heritage that could be enhanced to guarantee a sustainable tourism development of the area. Each chapter ends with a consistent set of specific intervention strategies. They are substantive tools for action aimed at public and private local actors.

Resumen
Part II of the book focusses on Razëm, a hamlet of the mountain village of Vrith, in the Municipality of Malësi e Madhe. Razëm lies within the Regional Natural Park of Shkrel and is considered the “gateway” to the Western Albanian Alps. The evocative landscape, the quality of the air and the proximity to Shkodër have transformed Razëm into a proper tourist resort. In the first chapters, the importance of the intangible heritage is stressed. The quality of the typical products and of the culinary tradition, the rhapsodic chants based on the Eposi i Kreshnikëve, the tradition of the customary law based on the Kanun code, the religious festivities and the xhubleta (as a most significant feature of local craftsmanship) are some of the issues addressed. In the following chapters, the multiple aspects of the tangible heritage are analysed. Here, the quality of the natural and pastoral landscape – characterised by alpine pastures and typical hut settlements –, together with the building tradition of the area, is highlighted. A special attention is dedicated to a complex of villas built by the rich bourgeoisie from Shkodër during the Twenties and Thirties, a unique phenomenon that deserves a proper in-depth study.

Resumen
The landscape is the system of both tangible and intangible heritage. A key element to evaluate a landscape is its integrity intended as the wholeness and intactness of natural and/or cultural heritage. The problem of identifying the integrity of a landscape is twofold: on one side it is necessary to identify the element that determines the intactness of a landscape and on the other side the methodology to study and quantify the integrity. Different methodologies have been developed in literature to assess and measure landscape integrity: some of them are more quantitative, while others are more qualitative. This paper presents two different methods for landscape integrity evaluation: the Valutazione Storico Ambientale (VASA) and the Landscape System Historical Analysis (LaHSA) one. The comparison of the two methodologies is carried out in a portion of the Ticino river (North Italy) and more specifically in the municipality of Morimondo. The two methods are compared considering a set of elements taking into account both the understanding of tangible and intangible permanencies and data accessibility/accuracy to carry out the analysis.

Resumen
This paper presents a scientific analysis of the topic of interpretation of intangible heritage in tourism – through the myth of the arrival of the Slavs. By planned design, myth becomes a real tourist attraction. Embarking from the postulates of the paper, we try to explain the importance of the local community for the interpretation of the intangible heritage and of establishing a sustainable system of its interpretation. The paper makes an effort to emphasize and prove the exceptional relevance of animation for the shaping and developing of a tourist product. Interdisciplinary features of the paper impose the use of recent sources from a variety of scientific fields and disciplines (archaeology, anthropology, phylology, cultural creative tourism, economy of experience). This entire paper has features of a scientific review which mostly uses desk method and deconstruction analysis aimed at intangible heritage and interpretative capacities in animation, within the economy of experience. The process of interpretation, which includes recognition and shaping or 'packaging', converts the myth into a tourist product. This packaging is not a mere cosmetic process which would help improve the product or simplify it. Interpretation is actually the essence, or the basic content of the product, which is sold in order to enrich the tourist offer by traditional elements which, in a large measure, form base of the national and regional identity. The contribution of this paper is the animation model for the interpretation of intangible heritage in a tourist destination of cultural tourism, which gives guidelines for the interpretation and formulation of intangible heritage for tourist purposes at a more subtle and higher level, outside the hitherto known frame of predictable and familiar processes. This model indicates the way to interpret the myth and to recognize and register its particular parts through the system, in the space, as local, regional and national attraction, which is illustrated by the example of 'holy geography'. A special contribution is in the change of paradigm, where it is shown that a tourist area can be interpreted in a novel, original way, as a spiritual resource for tourists visiting the area, and for the local population.

The urban landscape assesment as an important element in the quality of life and the sustainable development of the city constitutes an incipient field of investigation from a new perspective that adds meanings and values. An analysis of the different methodological developments and national and international experiences in the assessment of these landscapes will highlight its importance as a strategic element to improve the quality of the city. It starts from the concept of assessment as a system where tangible and intangible values are considered by the population and the experts. These include among other formal, economic, environmental, social, cultural issues (…) and the relationships between them. Consideration of the opinions of experts from different points of view such as urbanism and architecture but also environment, economy, geography, history, archeology, sociology, social assistance, etc. Together with the preferences expressed by the population regarding the spaces they inhabit on a daily basis and their aspirations, strengthen the sense of belonging and the identity of the place as key elements in the perception of the urban landscapes that allows to contribute new qualities, integration criteria and contemporary values to any type of intervention. These are strategies and intervention procedures that start from the complexity of the city as a system and incorporate the perception that citizens have or will have of their immediate environment. Resumen
There are presented the essence, basic terminology, methodology and scientific perimeter of the discipline "Ethno-cultural landscape studies". By use of a brief historic overview, there is traced the development of the cultural landscape as a scientific notion from its onset to present times. Regulatory postulates of UNESCO are taken into consideration, which explain the meaning of the terms "tradition", "intangible cultural heritage" and "cultural landscape". There are also summed up the practical and applied benefits from studying the discipline: a model for making an ethno-cultural landscape profile of the tourist site as a ground for creating unique tourist products based on traditional culture and turning folklore rituality into a generator of touristic plots.

Resumen
This research project aims at the regeneration of European universities created in the 60s and 70s through a systematic, circular, open and integrated process of their cultural heritage. At present, these campuses represent both a tangible and intangible heritage (architecture, urban planning, landscape… but also pedagogy, specialization areas, educational policies) whose adaptation to contemporaneity involves issues related to environmental sustainability, to the institution organizational capacities, and to its social implication. Specifically, this proposal aims at lines of action that would offer strategies such as the renewal of infrastructures and services and the adaptive reuse of the built heritage (space recycling, sustainability), the updating of the physical teaching spaces to the new teaching methodologies (European Higher Education Area), and the campus social consideration as a comfortable, conflict-safe and cultural-integrated area. Beyond the simple conservation, restoration and physical rehabilitation of a set of buildings and a university fabric, this project has the added value of an integrated or interdisciplinary action model that seeks four aspects of innovation: the organizational, the formative, the technological and social. This research proposes to ensure a longer life cycle for the heritage through its participation as a resource in the dynamics of regeneration of the universities.

Resumen
The late but accelerated industrialization of our country in the early 1900’s resulted in a polarization of the population movements: while certain cities increased exponentially their number of inhabitants, an important percentage of the territory gradually experienced a consequent depopulation. Whereas the effects of the former phenomenon in the cities have been deeply examined, the impact of the latter in the territory is a relatively unexplored subject, thus full of possibilities. In some areas, the rural exodus was so sudden that the development of their pre-industrial residential schemes froze-up and, thus, the high-value cultural landscape that they take part in remained almost unaltered until today. Most of these abandoned settlements had an intense and balanced relationship with their surroundings. Their location, morphology and the links among them were built upon an environmental friendly and resource efficient basis. This study will focus on the sustainable anthropization of the territory that was performed by these villages, in order to value them as intangible assets and to identify the most feasible strategies to their recovery. As case study, in Altoaragon, we can find no less than 150 abandoned settlements and, in the same territory, almost 30 villages that have been recovered in the last 30 years. Through a comparative study of the latter, we seek to develop generic strategies to help identify, among the former, those settlements or abandoned areas with more potential, and to draw the basic guidelines to restore and protect the pre-industrial stage as a whole.
