Texto completoENGLISH ABSTRACT: Organizations are changing rapidly and within organizations, teamwork is increasing and interpersonal relationships are becoming more important. The role of leaders is also changing and emotional and interpersonal competencies are becoming the skills needed for leaders to fulfill the demands of the current workplace. Emotional intelligence is one of the few remaining areas in an organization that can be developed to make a significant impact on the bottom line. In this work, the concept of emotional intelligence as defined in the literature is explored. There is also an overview of the vast body of literature available on leadership, and what is very clear, is the sparse research available on the role that emotional competence plays as being an essential tool in the kit of the effective leader. The question about the impact that emotional intelligence and competence can have on the enhancement and development of leadership and organizational processes is then explored. The conclusion drawn is that emotional intelligence will in actual fact enhance leadership and interpersonal skills which will enable a leader to build an emotionally enhanced organization. Suggestions for future research is that empirical research is indicated to explore the assumptions made and conclusions drawn based on this literature review regarding the role that emotional intelligence plays in leadership development and effectiveness.
AFRIKAANSE OPSOMMING: Organisasies gaan huidiglik deur snelle verandering. Spanwerk is besig om toe te neem en interpersoonlike verhoudings raak meer en meer belangrik binne organisasies. Die rol van leiers is ook besig om te verander en emosionele en interpersoonlike vaardighede raak toenemend die vaardighede wat deur leiers benodig word om aan die eise van die huidige werkplek te voldoen. Emosionele intelligensie is een van die min areas wat oorbly binne organisasies wat nog ontgin en ontwikkel kan word ten einde 'n beduidende impak te maak op winsgewendheid. Die konsep van emosionele intelligensie soos gedefinieer in die literatuur, is in die werk ekploreer. 'n Oorsig van die magdom literatuur beskikbaar oor leierskap is ook gedoen. Wat duidelik blyk uit die literatuur oorsig, is die geringe literatuur beskikbaar oor die rol wat emosionele vaardighede speel as een van essensiële vaardighede van leierskap. Die vraag oor die impak van emosionele intelligensie en vaardighede op leierskap en die mate waartoe dit leierskap en die effek daarvan op organisatoriese prosesse kan verbeter, is ondersoek. Die gevolgtrekking waartoe gekom is, is dat emosionele intelligensie inderdaad leierskap en interpersoonlike vaardighede sal verbeter wat die leier sal toerus om 'n emosioneel gevorderde organisasie te bou. Voorstelle vir toekomstige navorsing is om empiriese navorsing te doen ten einde die aannames gemaak en gevolgtrekkings waartoe gekom is in hierdie literatuuroorsig ten opsigte van die rol wat emosionele intelligensie speel by leierskapsontwikkeling en - effektiwiteit te toets.

It seems that every business movement is related with information transformation. When computers are used to deal with business data, we begin to search a way to make digital data into refined format information in order to let people to understand. This change results in a changing of business forms. For example, e-services refer to provide a certain service or play function on line, which has the tendency to replace the place of traditional service. How this kind of service can be developed remains a question mark to us.
The challenge of e-service is how to get different functions into integration. This thesis begins to research it focusing the point view of GIS (Geography Information System). Take Google earth as an example to illustrate how GIS is being used and what possible future uses of it can be developed. By exploring its use in data collecting, and analyzing, the possible applications in business world can be obviously released.

Texto completoSom forskare fann att genom hela historien är en gemensam utmaning för företag inom olika branscher när det gäller att utnyttja och fånga värde från en teknologisk innovation starkt påverkad av företagets dominerande affärsmodell, en etablerad ram genom vilken bedömning sker. Det övergripande syftet med denna studie är att ge en djupare förståelse för den roll som företagets dominerande affärsmodell har vid bedömningen av den inverkan som ny teknik innovation, i detta fall AI, kommer att ha på företaget och marknaden där företaget driver . Denna avhandling är delvis undersökande och delvis beskrivande med kvalitativ och deduktiv natur. För att svara på målet användes en forskningsstrategi av fallstudier där empiriska data samlades in från intervjuer med 47 bolagets ledande befattningshavare från olika hierarkiska nivåer och affärsenheter, från Sverige, Schweiz, USA, Tyskland och Finland. Den teoretiska ram som beskriver hur AI som ett nytt teknikverktyg uppfattas ur företagets Xperspektiv, antingen som en radikal, spelväxlare eller ett inkrementellt innovationsteknologiprogram och undersöker den roll som dominerande affärsmodell har på denna uppfattning skapades. Den utvecklade implementeringsramen har grundat sig i tidigare forskning rörande innovationsmodellteorier. Data som samlades in från företagets chefer analyserades sedan och jämfördes med modellen. De viktigaste resultaten tyder på att AI som ett nytt teknikverktyg uppfattas som en spelväxlare, radikalt innovationsverktyg för vissa områden inom företaget X och att företagets dominerande affärsmodell påverkar denna uppfattning väsentligt.

Texto completoTack vare den ständigt ökande lagringskapaciteten så strävar idag många organisationer efter att samla på sig så mycket data som möjligt om sin verksamhet. Denna data kan sedan aggregeras och visualiseras för att förbättra företagets strategi, vilket kallas Business Intelligence (BI). Idag känner en del verksamheter inte till den sanna potentialen av informationsvisualisering inom BI, däribland äldre banker.Denna rapport är en experimentell, design-orienterad forskningsstudie med syftet att utforska möjligheterna och utmaningarna med att designa en informationsvisualisering för att förbättra både management och själv-utvärdering av börsmäklare inom private banking, på en storskalig, svensk bank.För att utforska detta område så utvecklades en prototyp iterativt, baserat på information som löpande samlats under semi-strukturerade intervjuer och utvärderingar. Prototypen utvärderades slutligen av två chefer och fem av deras anställda börsmäklare genom en kombination av task analysis och semi-strukturerade intervjuer. Resultaten visar att den föreslagna visualiseringen förbättrade ett flertal aspekter inom finansiellt management, bl.a verksamhetsöverblick och balansering av arbetsbörda. Den föreslagna prototypen var dock inte användbar sett till själv-utvärdering eftersom börsmäklares prestationer är så starkt kopplat till marknadens dagliga skick.

Texto completoENGLISH ABSTRACT: The aim of this thesis is an investigation and study into the impact of emotional intelligence (EQ) on the leadership qualities and competencies of the management team of the T-Systems South-Africa’s Systems Integration (SI) department. The Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) business arena is a volatile and unpredictable environment that brings about unique challenges for the leadership qualities and skills of the modern leader and team member. During his studies towards the degree of Master in Business Administration (MBA) at the University of Stellenbosch, the researcher was introduced to the concept of emotional intelligence and the impact that it could have on the management of people and the growth and success of an organisation as a whole. Organisations are investing more and more in ICT practices to direct their business initiatives towards financial success. These investments include the professional disciplines such as program and project management. This lead to the question whether the so-called “hard” sciences that are applied on a daily base to govern a project, team or a business will be enough to sustain growth and ensure financial sustainability for a company. The importance of the “softer” sciences such as EQ are often overlooked and the researcher wanted to investigate the impact that increased awareness and knowledge regarding EQ abilities could have on leadership within an ICT department towards achieving overall success. The value of EQ can only be understood if managers and teams understand the concept and potential impact of EQ on both a personal and professional level to guide them to eventual success, even in difficult and trying times. The aim of this study, whilst focusing on the impact of EQ on leadership, will be to provide information and create awareness of the EQ concept to the broader SI department’s employees.
AFRIKAANSE OPSOMMING: Die doel van hierdie tesis is verkennende navorsing en verdere studie om die impak wat emosionele intelligensie (EQ) op die leierskap strukture binne die Stelsel Integrasie department (SI), van T-Systems, Suid-Afrika kan hê, verder te verken. Die korporatiewe omgewing van vandag is uiters mededingend, onvoorspelbaar en kompleks. Die omgewing bied unieke uitdagings aan die leierskapkwaliteite van die moderne leier en bestuurder binne die Informasie en Kommunikasie Tegnologie (IKT) veld. Gedurende sy studie aan die Universiteit Van Stellenbosch om die Meestergraad in Besigheidsadministrasie (MBA) te voltooi, was die navorser blootgestel aan die konsep van emosionele intelligensie en die onderlinge impak wat die wetenskaplike veld kan teweeg bring om volhoubare groei en ontwikkeling binne ‘n organisasie te stimuleer. Organisasies spandeer en investeer jaarliks miljoene rande aan Informasie en Tegnologie (IT) stelsels om hulle besigheidsprosesse te aktiveer en sodoende suksesvol te wees op alle strategiese gebiede insluitende volhoubare finansiële sukses. Die investerings sluit die konsepte van program- en projekbestuur in. Die vraag wat gereeld gevra word, is of die sogenaamde “harde” wetenskappe soos projekbestuur wat daagliks in ’n projekomgewing aangewend word, genoeg sal wees om te verseker dat ’n organisasie volhoubare groei en finansiële sukses op die langtermyn kan nastreef. Die belangrikheid van die “sagter” wetenskappe soos emosionele intelligensie word baie kere oorgesien en die navorser wil poog om die impak van emosionele intelligensie op die leierskapkwaliteit en standaarde binne die SI department te ondersoek en te bepaal of dit bydra tot die departement se sukses. Die waarde van emosionele intelligensie kan net verstaan word indien leiers en bestuurders die onderliggende konsepte en potensiële impak verstaan en die waarde besef wat die veld op beide hulle persoonlike maar ook professionele lewens mag hê om suksesvol te kan wees, selfs in moeilike tye. Die doel van die studie, alhoewel meer gerig op die impak wat emosionele intelligensie op leierskap mag hê, poog ook om bewustheid te skep en die nodige inligting rakende emosionele intelligensie konsepte uit te lig en van toepassing te maak op die werknemers binne die SI department.

Texto completoDetta forskningsarbete fokuserar på tillämpningar av elektroniska utlärningsmetoder som alternativ till lokala lektioner vid integrering av maskininlärning i produktutvecklingsprocessen. Framförallt är syftet att undersöka om det går att använda elektroniska utlärningsmetoder för att göra maskininlärning mer tillgänglig i produktutvecklingsprocessen. Detta ämne presenterar sig som intressant då en djupare förståelse kring detta banar väg för att effektivisera lärande på distans samt skalbarheten av kunskapsspridning. För att uppnå detta bads två grupper av anställda hos samma företagsgrupp, men tillhörande olika geografiska områden att ta del i ett upplägg av lektioner som författarna hade tagit fram. En grupp fick ta del av materialet genom seminarier, medan den andra bjöds in till att delta i en serie tele-lektioner. När båda deltagargrupper hade genomgått lektionerna fick några deltagare förfrågningar om att bli intervjuade. Några av deltagarnas direkta chefer och projektledare intervjuades även för att kunna jämföra deltagarnas åsikter med icke-deltagande intressenter. En kombination av en kvalitativ teoretisk analys tillsammans med svaren från intervjuerna användes som bas för de presenterade resultaten. Svarande indikerade att de föredrog träningarna som hölls på plats, men vidare kodning av intervjusvaren visade på undervisningsmetoden inte hade större påverkningar på deltagarnas förmåga att ta till sig materialet. Trots att resultatet pekar på att elektroniskt lärande är en teknik med många fördelar verkar det som att brister i teknikens förmåga att integrera mänsklig interaktion hindrar den från att nå sitt fulla potential och därigenom även hindrar dess integration i produktutvecklingsprocessen.

O presente trabalho visa relatar a experiência obtida na empresa EDP Serviço Universal e as tarefas que foram atribuídas ao longo do período de estágio. É também relatada a importância das ferramentas de business analytics e de business intelligence nas organizações, tal como os seus impactos e fatores críticos de sucesso. Por último a revisão da literatura terá como tema a gestão da qualidade dos dados e de que forma pode ser relevante para a respetiva análise. A empresa Serviço Universal do Grupo EDP, com o objetivo de analisar e fornecer informação com qualidade aos seus colaboradores e melhorar a atividade operacional, proporcionou ao estagiário a oportunidade de pertencer a uma equipa de analistas de negócio e aplicar todo o conhecimento adquirido ao longo do mestrado de Gestão de Sistemas de Informação. A fim de cumprir os objetivos propostos pela empresa, foi fornecida a ferramenta de análise SAS Enterprise Guide, que permitiu efetuar análises e elaborar relatórios de negócio sobre dados existentes na organização.
The exponential increase of available data has led to the need of use the management and analytical tools necessary to transform it, into useful information for organizations to create value for their business. This study aims to report a work experience in the company EDP Serviço Universal and tasks assigned during the internship period. It is also described the importance of business analytics and business intelligence tools in organizations, their impacts and critical success factors. Finally, the review of literature will focus on data quality management and what form can be relevant for their analysis. The company Serviço Universal of EDP Group, with the objective of analyzing and providing quality information to its employees and improving operational activity, offered the opportunity to belong to a team of business analysts and apply all the knowledge acquired over the Master in Management and Information Systems. In order to meet the company's proposed objectives, the SAS Enterprise Guide analysis tool was provided, which allowed the analysis and business reports on existing data in the organization.

Likewise, it is sought to identify that, with this computer tool, it will be possible to have the possibility of improving the import operational processes. Finally, the relationship between the two variables studied Business Intelligence for the best decision making and the efficiency of the Operational Processes will be verified, in order to optimize the value chain and present an innovation tool for the world of international business. The advanced information technology, well developed internet, increasing computing capability of computer and continuing improvement of data collection and storage not only accelerate the accessibility of data but also change the way of data application. On the other hand, the technique of data mining also help to dig out the potential data model and transferring into valuable information for decision makers to initiate appropriate strategy, which is one of the most important competitive advantage. Therefore, data mining and business intelligence (BI) are gradually valued by the industry. The business intelligence system integrates, connects, and collects the data from different enterprise systems, such as System, Application and products in data Processing (SAP) and Customer Relationship Management (CRM). BI can be used to analyze business data and the commercial operation value. By using the analysis techniques of data warehousing, Online Analytical Processing (OLAP), and data mining, decision makers can get the maximum value of the information and initiate strategy more efficiently. This research focus on applying current business intelligence tools to design an in-depth analysis, and end up designing a report as a basis for corporates to query and make decisions. Work process software, which base on Microsoft SQL Server 2008R2 is incorporated with SSIS (SQL Server Integration Services) to transform, combine, sort and generate clean Data Warehousing and SSAS (SQL Server Analysis Service) for the purpose of Multidimensional Cube analysis. Through the language of MDX (Multidimensional Expressions), the elements, calculation and query of data analysis are defined. At the same time, the advantage of DMX (Data Mining Extension) is also coordinated to predict future and seek for business opportunity. Regarding displaying the front-end management decision making, the OLAP is used, so users can generate an exclusive business intelligence reports by execute the Microsoft Excel Pivot Table. In recent years, with the advent and adoption of cloud computing, different prediction models provided to deal with the same prediction task are simultaneously available on the cloud for companies and individuals. Therefore, the service to provide integrated prediction results from these prediction models is emerging. However, the attributes involved in the models for the same prediction task may be much different due to different perspectives, capabilities, or resources of the model providers. Moreover, these models may also provide different model information, i.e., under different information disclosure level. Although some model integration methods have been proposed in the prior studies, these methods are based on the assumption that the complete data source is available for training. Such assumption is not tenable in our mentioned scenario. To address this challenge, novel model integration methods are therefore necessary. In response, we first propose four model integration methods to deal with the models under a given level of information disclosure by adopting a corresponding measure for determining the weight of each involved model. Furthermore, we propose two model integration methods to deal with the models under different information disclosure levels. A series of experiments are performed to demonstrate that our proposed model integration methods can outperform the benchmark, i.e., the enhanced model selection method. Our experimental results suggest that the accuracy of the integrated predictions can be improved if the stakeholders ask all the model providers to release more model information. The generalizability and applicability of our proposed method is also proved. Finally, when the models are under different information disclosure levels, the recommended way of integration is to only use the common model information for reference.
