Texto completoThis study has analyzed the presence of Italian sculptors in Paris from the beginning of the 20th Century to the end of the third decade, with the aim of reconstructing an important chapter of the history of artistic exchanges between Italy and France. We have favored an historical-philological method, based on critical publications and old French and Italian press.Concerning the beginning of the century, we have remarked a considerable participation of Italians in the main expositions in the French capital, such as official Salons; critical and market success allowed them to get a main role in the crew of the most popular artists.During the twenties, we have noted a less considerable participation of Italian sculptors; we have interpreted it in relation to historical context of fascist Italy, where the government was trying to develop a national cultural program. The Italian artists in France, after the First World War, didn't share the new Italian artistic orientation; they went on with outdated aesthetic choices. The last part of our research was interested in the development of the new Italian artistic language, finally known out of Italy. The Italian sculptors consequently could take part in arts activity in Paris, showing the face of a new sculpture, finally aware of its potentialities. France gave these experimentations a good welcome in the aim of constituting a longtime friendship with the Italian country

Texto completoOur study is partially based on two important fields of italian linguistics, dialectology and sociolinguistics. It is then composed of two parts: "the dialects" and "folk perceptual dialectology". We chose the province of bergamo after staying up to twenty months there which revealed to us the interest of the comparison of the data provided by dialectology (phonology, historical phonetics, morphology and syntax, lexis, the different subdialects, and their place in the italian dialectal continuum) and those provided by sociolinguistics (the oral and the written aspect, the fields of reference, the markers, the folk ethnonyms, the culture). Common bergamask culture, whatever its origins, produced several myths and it still contribues to strengthen others. Due to the devaluation the identity of the province suffered in the past, the inhabitants are even more intent on enhancing their dialect; their wish for prestigious or faraway origins, their will to be different since it is impossible to be part of the whole, are often expressed with the same words. Our study shows that linguistical originality does not belong to the bergamask dialect more than to the family of north italian dialects it is a part of

Texto completoThis thesis presents a sociolinguistic analysis of the role of French and Italian language in the migration context, notably in the community of Senegalese immigrants in Brescia (Italy). In the first part, the first chapter is dedicated to Senegal, which is described in its historical, cultural, ethnic and religious features and depicted as far as its current linguistic and sociolinguistic situation is concerned, referring to French, Wolof and other local languages. The evolution of the Senegalese diaspora in Europe and Italy, in its different stages, is treated as well. The second chapter focuses on Brescia, elective hometown of the Senegalese in Italy, because of its socio-economic features which make it a territory particularly favorable to the creation of solidarity networks between Senegalese and Italian people. The second part is entirely dedicated to the sociolinguistic analysis of the languages involved in this context, notably Wolof, along with other national languages of Senegal, French and Italian. The survey is based on twenty interviews made with a sample of Senegalese immigrants in Brescia, from which the linguistic practices and representations of the subjects, about the languages known and spoken, emerge. To expand the scope of the survey, a sample of Senegalese immigrated in Milan has been included as well, and their interviews have been inserted in the general analysis of the linguistic practices and representations under focus. In the conclusions of the thesis, a global view on the research carried out and on the method adopted for the survey will be given

Texto completoIn this research we analyze the dynamics of linguistic contact with the Italian language, dialects and regional varieties described by adult immigrants and their sociolinguistic representations of these varieties. Our study is based on a corpus of fifty audio-taped conversations gathered in the Emilia-Romagna region (in Bologna and Forlì) and realized at immigrants’ work places. The acquisition of dialects and regional Italian varieties has also been considered in some linguistic studies on immigration but they have mainly highlighted the use and attitudes of migrants, underlining their role in the experience of linguistic learning in some regions of the North and of the South of Italy. Neverthless, linguistic socialization practices, which involve the endogen plurilingualism, seem to be less studied and they are the focus of our research which examines the role of dialects for immigrants in their journey since their arrival in Italy and in relation to their personal social network. We considered the role of linguistic socialization practices at work places for repercussions on social and linguistic integration in the host country

Texto completoThe aim of this dissertation is to analyse how literature and cinema have represented the city of Milan during the decade 1955-1965, which slightly precedes and follows what the majority of historians now call the “economic miracle” (1958-1963). This research attempts to retrace the real and the imaginary portrait of a city, whose experience and dynamics at the time of the “economic miracle”, appeared as a representative sample of Italy as a whole. This topic has been considered from an interdisciplinary perspective through works of history, architecture, urbanism and sociology, focusing first on the real forms of the city. These forms are then subsequently confronted with their imaginary representations through literature and cinema. This choice was dictated by the conviction that the complexity of the city, as an object of study, integrates various levels of structuration: physical, economic, social, but also temporal and imaginary. This dissertation is composed of five parts beginning with the analysis of the urban form of the city and ending with the examination of its social composition. After this investigation, three distinct, yet seemingly contradictory, images appear, which could define the Lombard city as “the dynamic city”, “the city of the capital” and “the crystalized city”. These three contradictory images are expressed through a large variety of modes of representation, styles and tones, which form a broad mosaic of artistic expressions reflecting the complexity, relations, contrasts and conflicts that characterize the city of Milan at the time of the “economic miracle”

Texto completoMy research falls into three parts : firstly, an introduction situating the town of Bari historically as well as linguistically. This chapter comprises three paragraphs : the first deals with the linguistic history of the city, the second focuses on the principal characteristics of the Bari dialect, and the last, called "Bari dialect : from paper to the web" analyses the way today's internauts have adapted their own dialect in web communications. Part two is a study of the answers provided by 120 people selected according to parameters of age, gender and educational attainment. This survey reveals the various situations where either dialect or a mix of Italian and dialect is used. The results show that dialect is still very much live in Bari, as 90% of interviewees claim to use it, particularly old people, while among the educated use is much less frequent. The third part mainly consists of a linguistic analysis of a 115-minute recordind, plus two theoretical paragraphs dealing with the width of the Italian linguistic repertory, and how this interacts with the use of dialect. The report concludes that, even though dialect is losing ground, it still plays an much more important role in the daily lives of Bari's inhabitants

Texto completoThe theory of social categorization shows that the membership can produce certain particular behaviours. The favouritism towards the in-group seems more particularly to take place with most of intergroup relationships. With greater reasons, this happens when we are in front of ideological memberships -meta-memberships as we called them-such memberships seeming to include straight away all the other memberships. Being exhaustive, and therefore non-cumulative, they do not tolerate any complementarity. When, thanks to a historical, economical, political. . . Contingency, it is possible to consider an intra-individual plurality of two ideological memberships, the pattern elaborated through the theory of social categorization is not any more sufficient. A better adequation comes out of the works made on memberships crossings, as the decrease of tendency to ingroup favouritism registred in this field seems to happen in a situation of ideological memberships plurality. One of the major purposes of our works has been to test a number of hypothesis as regards to the behaviour of the members of two particular ideological groups (who have been always considered as opposite to each other): Catholics and communists, such behaviour depending on the representation -acceptance or refusalof each group towards plurality of ideological memberships. We have mainly established the following hypothesis: a) favouritism towards the ingroup decrease b) there will be a perception of a less intergroups distance at the ideological level, as well as a larger similarity in behavoiurs between the two groups. These hypothesis will apply for the members who admit the plurality of two memberships. Three experiments have been carried out to test the above hypothesis: the results enable us to consider our hypothesis as proved and confirmed

Texto completoThis PhD thesis questions the label « Ecole romaine » (also known as Scuola romana) used to designate a group of painters and sculptors in Rome between 1918 and 1945. We aim to understand the reasons for the success of this expression until now. We use various methods in order to investigate the discourses of both art critics and scholars as well as more fictional texts, often written as testimonies. Furthermore, this work analyses the singular career of each artist and the reception of their works in order to consider the Ecole Romaine within a history of taste in Italy and abroad. Our study follows a chronological development. First, we analyse the reception of the School when active, between 1918 and 1945. Then, we examine the place of our artists in post-war Italy, in a context of great political divisions. Finally, we study how, in the early 1980s, various actors on the artistic scene tried to raise the value of the Ecole Romaine's works on the art market. What were the results of their attempt, and to what extent this renewal of interest had a lasting impact, especially in the museums field ? The questions of artistic modernity and of the relationship between the Ecole Romaine and the fascist regime are central in this research. These constitute new approaches to a theme which has remained relatively unknown outside of Italy

Texto completoThe present study debates the Italian documentary in Berlusconi’s era reflecting on its interactions with historical and cultural transformations in Italy. This documentary production reveals the urge to expose power mechanisms and seek truth in a moment when making political cinema looked difficult. We started from the theory that a political protest documentary certainly existed, and the study of the social context in which a certain movie was realized allows us to establish the frame in which the authors operated their criticism. The documentary focused on reality, correlating with history and memory. It served as an archive for struggles. These movies witness painful stories, but also show the resisting fraction of a people. This kind of documentary aspires to being the historical memory of that Italy

Texto completoThe work of thesis tackles the question of the relation between teaching and the new linguistic minorities in Italy. The problems are based, at first, on the observation of the following paradox: whereas the cultivated occidentals consider the mastery of several languages as a prestigious experience, there exists today in Europe, and more particularly in Italy, many ethnics groups for which the learning of another language represents a hard necessity caused by the escape of a country in war, the exile of a system in oppression, or simply due to economic needs. The linguistics minorities are clearly disadvantaged in the work research, and the problems of school insertion of their childrens led the researchers to work out various approaches for the training of the national language like second language in the large urban centers and developing, at the same time, native language. Experiments were installed in the areas most touched by immigration. The study examines the various aspects of the question of the insertion of the children of immigrants in the school and the Italian society : assessment of the existing studies, field data analysis, new didactic dimension

Texto completoThe dialectal space of berceto being a part of the emilian area is absent from italian linguistic atlas elaborated until today. In this space situated at the frontier of three regions : emilia-romagna, liguria and tuscany, we can notice important linguistic variations which in most cases put in competition two or three forms for a same linguistic criterion. Our research was focused on linguistic description and variation in this dialectal space. We achieved a complete description of linguistic phenomenons of each point of the space setting to explain all the geolinguistic variations. The methodology used refering at the same time to descriptive studies and to the principles of linguistic atlas, intends to build an approach of microvariation in a dialectal space which considers different linguistic theories in order to be eclectic. The phonological study is composed of a structural analysis, a reflection on isoglosses, a diasystemic analysis without forgetting a diachronic approach, the morphosyntactic study is based on the principles of generative and transformational grammar without excluding other approaches particularly diachronic and psychosystematic (refering to gustave guillaume) insisting on the structure of the sentence, on the deixis and on the verbal morphology. The lexical study highlighted the variations in this field and introduced the original structure "verb plus adverb of place" characteristic of the dialects of the space. Finally, all the microvariations collected during the research were form of a microdialectometric study which results in a new methodological approach of geolinguistic microvariation and in a new definition of the concept of linguistic boundary

Texto completoThis doctoral thesis explores the Italian art song genre from 1958 until the dawn of the twenty-first century; the broad scope of investigation was chosen so that the subject would not be overly circumscribed either temporally or notionally. The thesis also examines the relationship between the Italian art song and its social and political contexts. The first part, taking into account those influences as well as the effect of the random events of History, analyses the main artistic phenomena at the end of the '50 that led to an "artistic" turning point for the Italian popular song, hitherto locked into an opera derived melismatic mode. The second part investigates the language, the poetics and the aesthetics of the art song genre addressing at length dialect, demonstrating that this question cannot be explained merely in terms of folklore. The third part develops the art song seen through the lens of History, both retrospectively and as a reflexion of the current events of the day. The fourth and last part discusses the new forms of art song that have developed within a contemporary context: rock, the new cantautoriale school and rap. The rewriting, the performance act itself are discussed; the cultural legitimacy of an artistic genre and new forms and ways of experiencing art, as well as revolutionary modes of creation with the advent of the Internet are explored. The song was granted an important place in the society and culture of the second half of the twentieth century and the beginning of the twenty-first; today, imbued with the troubles of a new period, it invites our questions and research more than ever to help us understand the age we live in

Texto completoRomanzo nuovo, new novel, is a title encompassing all research into new novelistic forms. This title began to be used in the early 60s in Italian neo-avant-garde circles without becoming a label designating any specific school. The purpose of this study is first, to understand if there has been a true literary movement that would have paved the way for a radical change in literature, and thus for a romanzo nuovo; then, to analyse the novels and theories of the Italian neo-avant-garde novel; lastly; to examine the experimental novels of the past thirty years. In this way, we will evaluate some postulates of the neo-avant-garde : experimental literature has developed since the 60s thanks to the work of the writers and critics of the "Gruppo 63"; literary research has remained alive and active since the dissolution of the group, right up to the 90s; an unbroken line can be traced back through the literary research of these past thirty years

Texto completoIn the france of the end of the 19th century, italian language teaching is poorly organized. In 1894, a society of italian studies (société d'études italiennes) is founded with the goal of encouraging the dissemination of italian language and culture in france and improving relations between the two countries. This mobilization, in which institutions like the “ecole normale superieure” and the “ecole francaise de rome” take part, leads to the opening of an italian agregation (a prestigious professional qualification for teachers) in 1900. The prosopographical study of persons who passed the agregation (the “agreges”) prior to 1940 begins with an examination of the individual career paths undertaken by the agreges with the objective of reconstructing the organization of italian studies in france. The resulting analysis is then studied in line with dissertations and academic journals. The role of french and italian professors in public life is studied for the years of the first world war as well as those following the takeover of power by fascism in italy. Mussolini's regime will develop propagandistic strategies in france by using the italian language, via the dante society and via italian foreign language assistants (lecteurs) sent to french universities

Texto completoThe Italian theater of the late 19th c. And early 20th c. Is little known and neglected by critics, though it contributed to the national revival once political unity was achieved in Italy. Turning away from dialects it chooses the national Italian language ; through its original approach to contemporary social issues it takes an independent stand against the overwhelming influence of French and Scandinavian drama. Hundreds of new plays are written each year by professional or amateur playrights. The plays are produced by dozens of itinerant troups, travelling all over the Italian territory, and even going on tours abroad. Leading actors according to tradition direct their own troup. This period is also a time of experiments : "permanent" theaters are created ; playrights, actors and company directors organize themselves in the defence of their respective interests ; a specialized press develops and increases the theater's impact on a large and enthusiastic audience. Authors deal with subjects that reflect the concerns of a rapidly rising bourgeoisie. Such themes as family and money are part of all plots. Some problem plays stage familiar concerns on the contemporary social scene, like duels and suicide. Others illustrate the new laws, underline the difficulties implied by their enforcement and suggest necessary reforms in the fields of marriage, separation, divorce, heritage, etc. All plays rely on traditional moral standards. The present work pertains to both literature and the sociology of theater. As we study the texts of the plays, the letters exchanged by authors and actors as well as the archives of the theater companies we draw attention to a literary genre which often provides an accurate image of the new Italy while revealing the obsessions of a rapidly transforming society

Texto completoHow can one become and stay an activist in the current context of a "crisis of politics" and a downward trend in party militancy ? Contrary to what the hyper-rationalist analysis of individual behaviours often suggests, involvement depends on social agents assimilating the specific political culture which characterizes each partisan organization. From a qualitative research carried out among the young activists of three Italian right-wing and far right-wing parties (Alleanza Nazionale, Lega Nord and Forza Italia), we intend to identify the conditions that make possible the appropriation of political cultures and their transformation / alteration over time, paying particular attention to the changes which follow from the conquest and the exercice of power. We show that youth activism is built on a double social mechanism : a) an appropriation of a model of society (one city, one trritory, one memory) and of a militant carrer (one appropriate type of dedication, socialization and promotion), and b) an indexation between the discourse of partisan organisation and the biographical narrative. .

Texto completoThe "extinction" of the present Italian community established in Tunisia from long ago, will be due to the non-renewal of the generations, as the majority of the working population leaves the country. Different surveys conducted on several members of this community have shown that in spite of the colonial authority of France on Tunisia and the pressure of the Tunisian government on the community, they have been under French and Tunisian influence, but they have actually assimilated neither one nor the other. They have still kept their cultural identity and the specific characteristics of their original language

Texto completoThis dissertation examines, from a corpus of about 950 images, the various scenes of the Trial of Christ in the late medieval Italian culture. It claims two aims. Firstly, it draws the iconographic evolution of each scene (Christ before his judges, Mocking, Crowning of Thorns, Flagellation) and of the entire sequence, from the first centuries of Christian art ; secondly, it inserts theses images of injustice in the spiritual, cultural, judicial and political context of a society which is profoundly pervaded by the theme of justice. The first section deals with the textual and visual sources in order to examine the elaboration of the sequence and the inventiveness of the Italian solutions since the second half of the XIIIth century. The second section is a survey of the corpus, lead by a geographico-historical analysis of the production of these images. This aspect is extended by a semantic approach of these scenes picturing the injustice and the infamia endured by the Son of God, notably through the light of the increasing corpus of images of institutional justice. The last section examines the question of the efficacity of these images in various contexts (devotion, judicial rituals, civic rhetoric, politics). Thanks to that diversity of approaches, the theme of the Trial of Jesus reveals profound resonances in the web of Italian societies, where justice is an institution in search of its own identity, a Christian virtue and the privilege of God at End Time. Its acts notably as a powerful but ambivalent rhetorical counterexample.Key words : agency of image, altarpiece, visual apparatus, Arena, episcopal aula of Bergamo, Ben Comune, Blind Justice, Caiaphas, Pietro Cavallini, Christ, Comune rubato, conforto, Crowning of Thorns, devotion, Diligite iustisiam, discipline, Duccio, Ecce Homo, efficace des images, fama, Flagellation, Florence, frescoes, Giotto, Herode, imitatio Christi, infamia, injustice, Jews, Last Judgment, justice, Pietro Lorenzetti, Maestà, Meditationes Vitae Christi, memento falliri, memoria, visual metalepsis, painted cross, Passion, Pilate, Pilate washing his hands, Rhetorica ad Herennium, rituals, judicial rituals, Siena, mendicant spirituality, tavoletta, trial, vice, virtue

Texto completoItalian passive form offers a variety of choices that are hardly comparable to those of French. Apart from the canonical form essere and Past Participle, there are also the forms with venire, andare, finire, rimanere, risultare, restare, stare. The objective of this work is to understand the use of essere, venire, andare, rimanere and restare, auxiliaries of the Italian passive form, and the function of the existence of such a diversity within the framework of the Lexicon-Grammar of Maurice Gross and Amr H. Ibrahim's Methodology of Analytical Defining Matrixes (ADM).The study develops through 10 chapters. The first part introduces the state of the art on the Italian passive and the description of the chosen five auxiliaries, according to the traditional description of linguists and grammarians. The following chapters are devoted to the description of each auxiliary and the comparison of their uses. The work concludes with the synthesis of the different characteristics of passive periphrases and considerations of an aspectual-temporal order with an attempt at systematization. The aim of this work is to prove that the said auxiliaries are rarely commutable and that each of them introduces different morpho-syntactic and aspectual restrictions
