Lars Schreiber Pedersen: “Die grosse Zeit ist vorüber”. Extract from H. O. Lange’s correspondence with Georg Steindorff 1937-1939 During his first stay at the home of Professor Adolf Erman in Berlin in 1887, the Danish Egyptologist, H. O. Lange (1863-1943) also got to know a number of Erman’s students. The oldest of them was Georg Steindorff (1861-1951), with whom Lange developed a long, friendly relationship, which was to last for over 50 years.Based on the archive material from the Royal Library in Copenhagen and the Egyptian Museum at the University of Leipzig, this article focuses on the correspondence between Lange and Steindorff in the years 1937-1939. These were landmark years for both men. After 13 years as a lecturer in Egyptology at the University of Copenhagen, 74-year-old H. O. Lange had retired on 1 July 1937, and Georg Steindorff, who was two years older at this point, had also retired after more than 40 years as Professor in Egyptology at the University of Leipzig.The correspondence clearly shows that during these years, on a personal and profession level, there was more at stake for Georg Steindorff. Despite the fact that he had already been baptised in 1885, according to National Socialist race laws, Steindorff continued to be considered as a “full Jew” (Volljude). However, and quite unusually, Steindorff was able to teach at the University up until the end of 1935. However, in the following years, he was increasingly persecuted by the Nazi regime. In 1937, he was forced to relinquish his many years as editor of the leading scientific journal, Zeitschrift für Ägyptische Sprache und Altertumskunde, which brought to an end his status as the profession’s grand old man in Germany. In December 1938, he was forced to withdraw from the Saxon Scientific Academy and, at the end of March 1939, he emigrated with his wife to the USA. The correspondence between the two old friends and colleagues apparently ended abruptly in the autumn of 1939. Personal reasons are not thought to be the cause of this breakdown in communication; it was probably caused by the outbreak of the war.Central to H. O. Lange and Georg Steindorff’s correspondence during the period 1937-1939, was the question of how to safeguard Georg Steindorff’s unpublished scientific works and preserve them for the future. Steindorff was very much interested in giving them to H. O. Lange in Copenhagen, but the German Egyptologist ended up bringing them to the USA anyway. However, neither did his etymological Coptic-Egyptian glossary nor his planned thesis on ‘Achmimische Proverbien’ to be written with his deceased colleague, Carl Schmidt ever see the light of day. On the other hand, Steindorff’s Coptic grammar was published posthumously in 1951 under the title Lehrbuch der koptischen Grammatik. Nor did H. O. Lange, who in January 1939 had expressed his hope that Steindorff would be fortunate enough to finish this important work, get to see the finished results. On 15 January 1943, the Danish Egyptologist died at the age of 79.

SUMMARY It has long been recognized that there are two basic types of sound change: phonetic change, which is intrinsically regular, and analogical change, which is basically irregular. In addition, it has been argued by Witold Manczak that in any language, about one third of the words manifest an irregular sound change due to frequency. Such changes have in common the fact that in language after language they apply to the same lexical categories, amputating segments from forms whose length and frequency are in discordance. Although Manczak has studied this phenomenon extensively from a diachronic perspective, no one has yet looked specifically at the synchronic consequences of this type of change. What such a study reveals, inter alia, is how it is possible for an irregular sound change due to frequency to yield a regular synchronic morphophonemic rule, and also how such a morphophonemic process can emerge without first going through a strictly phonological stage. RÉSUMÉ On reconnaît depuis longtemps qu'il y a deux types de changements phonologiques: le changement phonétique, qui est intrinsèquement régulier, et le changement analogique, qui est fondamentalement irrégulier. Or voilà plusieurs années que Witold Mariczak tente de démontrer que dans toute langue, environ le tiers des mots manifeste un changement irrégulier dû à la fréquence. De tels changements ont en commun le fait que dans langue après langue, ils s'appliquent aux mêmes catégories lexicales en amputant des segments aux formes dont la longueur et la fréquence sont en déséquilibre. Bien que Mariczak ait étudié ce phénomène à fond dans une optique historique, personne n'a encore examiné de façon spécifique les conséquences synchroniques de ce type de changement. Une telle étude démontre, entre autre, qu'il est possible pour un changement phonologique irrégulier dû à la fréquence d'aboutir à une règle morphophonémique synchronique régulière, et aussi comment un tel processus morphophonémique peut surgir sans avoir passé au préalable par une étape strictement phonologique. ZUSAMMENFASSUNG Das Vorhandensein von zwei Grundtypen der Lautveränderung ist seit langem anerkannt: phonetischer Wandel, der gewöhnlich regulär ist, und aria-logischer Wandel, der als irregular gilt. Hierzu kame noch die Tatsache, laut Witold Manczak, daB in jeder Sprache etwa ein Drittel der Wörter häufig-keitsbedingten unregelmaßigen Lautwandel unterliege. Solche Veränderun-gen haben die Eigenschaft gemein, daB in einer Sprache nach der anderen stets die gleichen lexikalischen Kategorien betroffen sind, in dem sie Segmente abtrennen, deren Lange und Gebrauchshäufigkeit im Widerspruch stehen. Abschon Manczak dieses Phanomen intensiv aus der diachronischen Perspektive studiert hat, hat bis heute niemand sein Augenmerk auf die synchronen Konsequenzen dieses Veranderungstyps gerichtet. Was namlich eine solche Untersuchung zutage fördert, ist u.a. wie es möglich ist für einen irregulären Lautwandel, der durch Verwendungshäufigkeit hervorgerufen wurde, eine reguläre synchronische morphophonemische Regel hervorzu-bringen, und auch wie solch ein morphophonemischer Prozeß entstehen kann, ohne zunachst ein strikt phonologisches Stadium durchlaufen zu haben.

Resumen

Ätiologisch ist im vorliegenden Fall ein Angioödem mit Mastzelldegranulation unwahrscheinlich. Einerseits wegen fehlendem Exanthem und Pruritus und andererseits fehlte ein suffizientes Ansprechen auf hochdosierte Steroidgabe oder Adrenalin. Der wiederholt normale Wert von C1-INH im Serum sowohl quantitativ und auch qualitativ spricht gegen das Vorliegen eines C1-Esteraseinhibitor-Mangel. Aufgrund der Anamnese und des klinischen Verlaufs bleibt als wahrscheinlichste Ursache für das Angioödem die bereits lange Jahre etablierte und in der Dosierung unveränderte ACE-Hemmer-Therapie, obwohl eine derartige Manifestation nach langjährigem ACE Hemmer Einsatz sehr selten ist.

Heterodiegetic narration seems susceptible to (mimetic) unreliability particularly when internal and even zero focalization are used. The narrator’s perspective is of particular interest here. Daniel Kehlmann’s 2017 historical novel Tyll is a perfect example for heterodiegetic unreliable narration that not only plays with various strategies of unreliability but also calls into question the generic implications of the historical novel as means to represent history.

Interdisciplinarity is also a hallmark of the IJT editorial staff, reviewers, and publishing team.The first article is a product of engineers with expertise in computing science (LoPresti and Simpson) and a medical speech-language pathologist (Jinks) who practices in the area of assistive technology. These authors reported upon the degree to which consumers are satisfied with the provision of telerehabilitation services for augmentative and alternative communication or alternative computer accessibility.A second article, by Proffitt, (occupational therapist) and Lange, (a physiotherapist with expertise in the use of interactive video games and virtual reality technologies) demonstrated the feasibility of employing a 6-week, game-based, in-home telerehabilitation exercise program using the Microsoft Kinect® for individuals with chronic stroke.Finally, the third article co-authored by Watzlaf (health information management, with degrees in public health and epidemiology), DeAlmeida (health information systems, with a degree in cell and molecular biology), Zhou (with degrees in computer science and physics, and expertise in mathematical modeling on health related topics, information integration, and comparative genomics), and Hartman (a reference librarian with a degree in chemistry, who collaborates with faculty in the health sciences and serves as a liaison to a school of health and rehabilitation sciences) describes a protocol to conduct systematic reviews of research in telerehabilitation, with the aim that IJT readers can ultimately apply this protocol to identify best practices in telerehabilitation.

ZusammenfassungHintergrund: Die Konzentration des Gesamtbilirubins (BT) in Serum oder Plasma war lange Zeit die klinische Standard-Laboratoriumsuntersuchung für die Bewertung eines Neugeborenenikterus, obwohl Studien zeigten, dass keine enge Korrelation zwischen BT und dem Auftreten einer akuten Bilirubin-Enzephalopathie (ABE) oder ihrer Folgezustände [Tod, klassischer Kernikterus oder Bilirubin-induzierte neurologische Dysfunktion (BIND)] besteht. Die schlechte Korrelation zwischen BT und ABE wird üblicherweise auf Störeinflüsse durch Komorbidität (z.B. Hämolysezustände, Frühgeburtlichkeit, Asphyxie oder Infektion) zurückgeführt. Es mehren sich jedoch die Hinweise darauf, dass BT per se kein guter Indikator ist, weil die Bilirubinkonzentration im Zentralnervensystem – und somit das Auftreten der ABE und ihrer Folgezustände – weniger von der Gesamtbilirubinkonzentration in Serum oder Plasma als von der Konzentration des ungebundenen oder freien (d.h. im Plasma nicht an Proteine gebundenen) Bilirubins (Bf) abhängt.Inhalt: In dieser Übersichtsarbeit werden (a) die komplexen Beziehungen zwischen den in Serum oder Plasma bestimmten Bilirubinkonzentrationen und der ABE, (b) die geschichtlichen Grundlagen der limitierten Verwendung von Bf in der Klinik, (c) die Peroxidase-Methode zur Bestimmung von Bf sowie technische und andere Aspekte, die für die Anpassung der Methode an die klinische Routine erforderlich sind, (d) die klinischen Erfahrungen mit der Anwendung von Bf beim Management des Icterus neonatorum und (e) die Bedeutung der Bf-Bestimmung für wissenschaftliche Fragestellungen zur Pathobiochemie des Bilirubins dargestellt.Zusammenfassung: Immer mehr Daten aus klinischen Studien, klinischer Erfahrung und Grundlagenforschung zur Neurotoxizität von Bilirubin sprechen dafür, dass der Parameter Bf zügig in die Routinediagnostik bei ikterischen Neugeborenen aufgenommen werden sollte.

A new teleostean genus and species, Paraleptolepis wiedenrothi, is described from the Lower Liassic of Germany. The fish has an overall similarity with Leptolepis coryphaenoides (from different Lower Liassic European localities) but differs from L. coryphaenoides in the presence of a few autapomorphies and also in the retention of several primitive features not present in L. coryphaenoides. Examples of autapomorphic characters are: two moderately large suborbital bones; preopercle triangular and with a notch at its posterior margin; large cleithrum with pronounced curvature anteriorly: pelvic axillary process formed by one small elongate bone; and long neural spines on preural centrum 1 and the ural centrum 1 + 2. Paraleptolepis n. gen. is more closely related to Leptolepis and extant teleosts than it is to Proleptolepis (from Lower Liassic localities). The new evidence supports the previous hypothesis that the family Leptolepididae sensu Nybelin is non-monophyletic. Several characters (e.g., concerning structure of vertebrae) that previously were accepted to have arisen at the phylogenetic level of Leptolepis coryphaenoides, are found also to occur in Paraleptolepis n. gen. Eine neue Teleosteergattung und -art. Paraleptolepis wiedenrothi. wird aus dem unteren Lias Deutschlands beschrieben. Der Fisch hat eine generelle Ähnlichkeit mit Leptolepis coryphaenoides (bekannt von verschiedenen europäischen Lokalitäten des unteren Lias), aber unterscheidet sich von L. coryphaenoides in einigen Autapomorphien und in der Beibehaltung mehrerer primitiver Merkmale, die in L. coryphaenoides nicht vorhanden sind. Beispiele autapomorpher Merkmale sind: zwei verhält-nismäßig große suborbitale Knochen; ein dreieckiges Präoperculum mit einer Einbuchtung am hinteren Rand: ein großes Cleithrum mit einer ausgeprägten vorderen Einbuchtung; ein Axillarfortsatz am Beckengürtel, der aus einem schmalen langen Knochen gebildet wird; und lange Neuralfortsätze auf dem präuralen Zentrum 1 und dem uralen Zentrum 1 + 2. Paraleptolepis n. gen. ist näher mit Leptolepis und lebenden Teleosteern verwandt als mit Proleptolepis (aus Lokalitäten des unteren Lias). AbstractIntra-uterine birth causing maternal death (endotokia matricida) is relatively common in rhabditid nematodes and typical for entomopathogenic nematodes of the genus Heterorhabditis. A detailed description of this phenomenon is given, including a summary of embryo development, egg-laying, juvenile hatching and development. It is demonstrated that low food supply significantly promotes the beginning of endotokia matricida but has no influence on the time scale of the process. The biological function of endotokia matricida and the intra-uterine induction of the dauer formation is discussed. Endotokia matricida in Heterorhabditis spp. is a well synchronised process of the destruction of the maternal tissues correlated with the juvenile development including the uptake of the symbiotic bacteria by the late pre-dauer stage. It secures the development of dauer juveniles at a moment when the external food supply is reducing and provides offspring which are well equipped with energy reserves and symbiotic bacteria for long term survival and subsequent infection of insects in the soil. Endotokia matricida bei Hermaphroditen von Heterorhabditis spp. und der Einfluss der Nahrungsversorgung . - Der Schlupf juveniler Nematoden im mutterlichen Uterus mit anschliessender Totung des Muttertieres (endotokia matricida) ist relativ weit verbreitet bei rhabditiden Nematoden und typisch fur entomopathogene Nematoden der Gattung Heterorhabditis. Die Endotokia matricida wird beschrieben sowie die Embryonalentwicklung, das Eilegeverhalten, der Schlupf und die Entwicklung der Juvenilen. Der Beginn der endotokia matricida wird durch eine niedrige Nahrungsverfugbarkeit in der Kultur signifikant gefordert, diese hat jedoch keinen Einfluss auf den zeitlichen Ablauf der endotokia matricida. Die biologische Funktion der endotokia matricida und die intra-uterine Induktion der Dauerlarvenbildung werden diskutiert. Die endotokia matricida bei Heterorhabditis spp. ist ein gut synchronisierter Prozess, bei dem die Zerstorung des Muttertiers korreliert mit der Entwicklung der Juvenilstadien, einschliesslich der Aufnahme der symbiotischen Bakterien durch das Pra-Dauer Stadium. Sie sichert die Entwicklung von Dauerlarven zu einem Zeitpunkt, wenn die externe Nahrungsversorgung sich verschlechtert und bringt so Nachkommen hervor, die gut mit Energiereserven und symbiotischen Bakterien ausgestattet sind, um im Boden lange zu uberdauern und Insekten zu befallen.

Interpretation of early deuterostome evolution and relationships has been hampered by the lack of soft-part preservation in most groups. In addition, a recently revealed upside-down life orientation of vertebrates (the only real notoneuralians) compared to other bilateral animals has been misinterpreted as evidence for a unique body design in all deuterostomes, misleading any search for relatives. Regarding echinoderms, the variety of body plans is confusing. The interpretation of some fossils with echinoderm-type calcite skeletons as “calcichordate” ancestors of chordates, however, involves a hypothetical reconstruction of an unusual body plan and a long series of hypothetical transitions. The number of necessary steps is much lower if cephalochordates (amphioxus or lancelet) are derived directly from hemichordate enteropneusts. “Sensation interpretations” of fossils (Yunnanozoon, Cathaymyrus) from Burgess Shale type deposits have added further confusion. Soft-part preservation of conodont animals, with V-shaped myomeres and a notochord, shows that they were segmented chordates, while probable eyes and teeth suggest that they were already on the vertebrate side. Die Interpretation früher Deuterostomia hinsichtlich ihrer Evolution und verwandtschaftlichen Beziehungen ist in den meisten Gruppen durch den Mangel an Weichkörpererhaltung sehr erschwert. Die kürzlich entdeckte Tatsache, daß Vertebraten, d. h. die einzigen echten Notoneuralia, im Gegensatz zu anderen bilateral symmetrischen Organismen eine mit ihrer ursprünglichen Oberseite nach unten gerichtete Lebensstellung einnehmen, hat zu der irrtümlichen Ansicht geführt, daß alle Deuostomia über einen im Tierreich einzigartigen Bauplan verfügen. Diese Interpretation brachte naturgemäß jede Suche nach Verwandtschaftsverhältnissen auf Abwege. Hinsichtlich der Echinodermata ist die bauplanmäßige Variation in der Tat verwirrend. Die Interpretation einiger Fossilien mit Echinodermen-ähnlichen Kalzitskeletten als “calcichordate” Vorfahren der Chordata setzt jedoch die hypothetische Rekonstruktion eines ungewöhnlichen Bauplans sowie eine lange Serie hypothetischer Übergänge voraus. Die Anzahl der notwendigen Schritte ist sehr viel geringer. wenn Cephalochordaten (Amphioxus oder das Lanzettfischchen) von hemichordaten Enteropneusta abgeleitet werden. Zusätzliche Verwirrung hat es durch sensationelle Interpretationen von Fossilien, Wie Yunnanozoon und Cathaymyrus aus Burgess-Schiefer-artigen Ablagerungen gegeben. The rediscovery of the supposedly lost type allows a revision of Alpinites Bogoslovskiy, 1971, the most advanced genus of the Posttornoceratidae. The type-species, Alp. kayseri Schindewolf, 1923, is so far only known from the Carnic Alps. Alp. schultzei n. sp. from the eastern Anti-Atlas of Morocco is closely related to Alp. kajraktensis n. sp. (= Alp. kayseri in Bogoslovskiy 1971) from Kazakhstan. A second new and more common species of southern Morocco, Alp. zigzag n. sp., is also known from the Holy Cross Mountains (Poland). The taxonomy and phylogeny of other Posttornoceratidae are discussed. The holotype of Exotornoceras nehdense (Lange, 1929) was recovered and is re-illustrated; it is conspecific with Exot. superstes (Wedekind, 1908). The genus and species is also here first recorded from Morocco. Post. weyeri Korn, 1999 is a subjective synonym of Post. posthumum (Wedekind, 1918) in which strongly biconvex growth lines, as typical for the family, are observed for the first time. Goniatites lenticularis Richter, 1848 is a nomen dubium within Discoclymenia, Clymenia polytrichus in Richter (1948) is a Falcitornoceras. It seems possible to distinguish an extreme thin and trochoid Disco. haueri (Münster, 1840) from the tegoid Disco. cucullata (v. Buch, 1839). Various taxa are excluded from the Posttornoceratidae. Posttornoceras sapiens Korn, 1999 forms the type-species of Maiderocera n. gen., Discoclymenia n. sp. of Müller (1956) is assigned to Maid. muelleri n. sp. Disco. cornwallensis is the type-species of Selwoodites n.gen (Sporadoceratidae) which also occurs in the Rhenish Massive. Durch Auffinden des verschollen geglaubten Typus-Exemplares wird eine Revision der Gattung Alpinites Bogoslovskiy, 1971, der höchst entwickelten Gattung der Posttornoceratidae, möglich. Die Typus-Art, Alp. kayseri Schindewolf, 1923, kommt gesichert bisher nur in den Karnischen Alpen vor. Alp. schultzei n. sp. aus dem östlichen Anti-Atlas (Marokko) ist nah mit Alp. kajraktensis n. sp. aus Kazakhstan (= Alp. kayseri in Bogoslovskiy 1971) verwandt. ,,GENTLE READER! — Lo, here a CAMERA OBSCURA is presented to thy view, in which are lights and shades dancing on a whited canvas, and magnified into apparent life!“220 Mit dieser Ansprache beginnt das lange Prosagedicht The Loves of the Plants, der zweite Teil des insgesamt zwei Bände umfassenden Gedichtes The Botanic Garden (1791), in dem der Naturphilosoph, Arzt und Dichter Erasmus Darwin versucht, die damals neuen botanischen Erkenntnisse Carl von Linnés literarisch darzustellen. Eine solche Zusammenführung von bahnbrechender naturwissenschaftlicher Forschung und literarischer Sprache entpuppt sich auf mehreren Ebenen als ein gewagtes Experiment. Im Zentrum von Darwins Text steht das in Systema Naturae (1735) formulierte Klassifizierungssystem Linnés, der die Aufteilung in männliche und weibliche Pflanzenteile zur Grundlage seiner Taxonomie machte. Im 18. Jahrhundert rückte somit die Sexualität von Pflanzen – und insbesondere der Blüten, da u.a. Anzahl und Anordnung von Stempel und Staubblättern die sexuelle Kategorisierung bestimmte221 – auf eine Weise in den Mittelpunkt, die Linné und anderen Vertretern der These der Pflanzensexualität wiederholt den Vorwurf der Obszönität einbrachte.222 Darwins Projekt einer Literarisierung der neuen Botanik kreuzt sich dabei mit Linnés Anliegen, die Sexualität der Pflanzen immer wieder in Analogie zur menschlichen Sexualität zu setzen: ,,Linnaeus consistently went beyond biological analogies in order to import social analogies into his descriptions of plant life.“223 Während Linné somit auf revolutionäre Weise die Botanik in einen Diskurs transformiert, in dem Sexualität und Geschlechterrollen verhandelbar werden, kleidet Darwin wiederum diese radikalen Ideen in eine dichterische Sprache, die überaus konventionell ist. Darwins Lehrgedichte stehen am Ende einer Lyriktradition, als deren herausragender Vertreter Alexander Pope gilt.224 Bereits wenige Jahre nach Erscheinen seiner Gedichte wirkt sein Stil für die nachfolgende Generation überlebt und altmodisch – Coleridge findet sich ,,nauseate[d]“225 angesichts Darwins Lyrik, während Byron ,,flimsy DARWIN“ als ,,the mighty master of unmeaning rhyme“226 abkanzelt. Auch wenn eine gewisse Ermüdung bei der Lektüre der sturen Gleichmäßigkeit des Reimschemas durchaus verständlich ist, möchte die folgende Auseinandersetzung mit The Loves of the Plants nicht nur die Radikalität der von Darwin rezipierten Ideen berücksichtigen, sondern auch herausarbeiten, welche Komplexität das Gedicht als ein literarischer Text bietet. Hierzu gehört auch die Form dieses Poem with Philosophical Notes, das eine Zweiteilung in die lyrische Darstellung und einen Fußnotenapparat mit wissenschaftlichen Anmerkungen vornimmt.

SUMMARY According to one influential (and dominant) historiographical tradition, the phonological system of southern standard English reached something near its present form quite early, in many particulars even in the late 16th century. This tradition is based on often tendentious misreading and misvaluation of con-emporary phonetic description; many significant changes must be dated even centuries later than is conventional. A close and sympathetic reading of 16th-18th century phoneticians suggests (inter alia) that ME /a/ (cat) did not become [ae] until around 1650, that ME /e:, o:/ (break, bone) did not raise to [e:, o:] until the late 17th century, that ME /i, u/ (sit, put) did not reach [I, u] until about the same time, and that the /eI, au/ values assumed to represent the 15th-16th-century values of ME /i:, u:/ (bite, out) not only did not appear until the 1650s or later, but represented a minority pattern. The upshot is that English phonology of the 17th century was more 'archaic' and closer to Middle English than scholars like Wyld and Kökeritz would have us believe it was in Elizabethan times. RÉSUMÉ Selon la tradition la plus influente, même dominante, concernant l'histoire de la langue anglaise, le système phonologique du standard méridional de l'anglais a atteint assez töt quelque chose de très proche de sa forme actuelle, dans certains traits particuliers même vers la fin du XVIe siècle. Cette position traditionnelle est souvent basée, à l'avis de l'auteur du présent article, sur une lecture et interprétation mauvaise de la description phonétique de l'époque; il y est soumis par contre que beaucoup de changements importants doivent être datés même des siècles plus tard qu'acceptés conventionnellement. Une lecture proche et bienveillante des phonéticiens du XVIe jusqu'au XVIIIe siècle devrait suggérer, entre autres, que le /a/ (dans cat) de l'anglais du Moyen Age ne changeait pas en [ae] avant 1650 à peu près, que les /e:, 0:/ (dans break et bone, respectivement) ne furent pas élevés en /e:, o:/ qu'avant tard dans le XVIIe siècle, que les /i, u/ (dans sit, put) n'atteignaient pas [1, u] avant approximativement le même temps, et que les valeurs [aI, au], supposées d'avoir prises la représentation des valeurs du VIe ou XVIe siècle /i:, u:/ (dans bite, out), n'apparaissaient pas avant les années 1650 ou plus tard et ne représentaient qu'un modèle mineur. ZUSAMMENFASSUNG Einer einfluBreichen — und vorherrschenden — historiographischen Tradition zufolge erreichte das phonologische System des sudenglischen Standards eine der heutigen Gestalt recht ähnliche Form, und dies schon ziemlich früh, in vielen Einzelheiten sogar schon im späten 16. Jahrhundert. Nach Ansicht des Autors basiert diese Tradition auf ein oft tendenziöses MiBlesen und MiBdeuten der zeitgenössischen phonetischen Beschreibungen des Engli-schen. Dagegen wird hier die Hypothese aufgestellt, daB eine Reihe bedeut-samer Veränderungen viel später, gar Jahrhunderte später, angesetzt werden müßten als zumeist iiblich. Ein aufmerksames und entgegenkommendes Lesen der Phonetiker des 16. bis 18. Jahrhunderts legt u.a. nahe, daB ME /a/ (in cat) kaum vor etwa 1650 [se] geworden ist, daB ME /e:, ɔ:/ (in break bzw. bone) nicht vor dem späten 17. Jahrhundert zu [e:, o:] erhöht worden ist, daB ME /i, u/ (in sit bzw put) nicht vor etwa derselben Zeit [i, u] erreichten und daB [aI, au] die Werte annahmen, die im 15.-16. Der Artikel versucht drei Thesen zu verteidigen: Erstens die Ansicht, dass man zwar philosophische und empirische Ästhetiken klar unterscheiden und auch gegenüberstellen kann, dass der Begriff der experimentellen Ästhetik aber keineswegs nur für Ästhetiken reserviert werden sollte, welche außerhalb der Philosophie zu finden sind. Denn insbesondere bei phänomenologischen Ästhetiken, so die zweite These, lässt sich in einem bestimmten Sinne auch von einer experimentellen Ästhetik sprechen – nämlich genau dann, wenn mit der Methode der Eidetischen Variation gearbeitet wird, und insofern sich diese Methode als eine Form von mentalem Selbstexperiment verstehen lässt. Da diese Methode aber nun nicht nur innerhalb der phänomenologischen Philosophie verwendet wird, soll drittens die Ansicht verteidigt werden, dass es in der Philosophie insgesamt eine lange Tradition experimenteller Ästhetiken gibt und zum Beispiel die Transzendentale Ästhetik Kants geradezu ein Musterbeispiel einer solchen ist, da sie ihre Erkenntnisansprüche weder induktiv noch deduktiv, sondern mittels des Experiments einer Eidetischen Variation begründet. The article tries to defend three theses: First the opinion that in fact philosophical and empirical aesthetics can be clearly distinguished and as well juxtaposed, but the term experimental aesthetics should not only be reserved for aesthetics, which can be found outside of philosophy. Because notably phenomenological aesthetics, so the second thesis, are in a certain way experimental aesthetics – namely if and only if the method of Eidetic Variation is used and insofar this method can be understood as a form of a mental self-experiment. Since this method is not only used in phenomenological philosophy, thirdly the opinion should be defended that there is a long tradition of experimental aesthetics in philosophy taken as a whole and e.g. Kant’s transcendental aesthetic is an epitome of such kind, because it bases its claim for knowledge neither inductively nor deductively, but using the experiment of an Eidetic Variation.

Zusammenfassung Mit Beginn des Jahres 2019 wurde in Deutschland ein neues Instrument der arbeitsmarktpolitisch geförderten Beschäftigung für Langzeitarbeitslose eingeführt. Die „Teilhabe am Arbeitsmarkt“ steht in der Tradition eines 2008 eingeleiteten Paradigmenwechsels: Statt die Förderung auf Arbeiten zu beschränken, die „zusätzlich“ und „wettbewerbsneutral“ sind und im „öffentlichen Interesse“ liegen, kann der Lohnkostenzuschuss von jedem Arbeitgeber und für jede Art von Tätigkeiten in Anspruch genommen werden. Dieser Paradigmenwechsel, von dem man sich bessere Chancen des Übergangs in ungeförderte Beschäftigung verspricht, war lange umstritten und wurde von Vielen nicht verstanden. Es ist deshalb erstaunlich, dass er durch die Irrungen und Wirrungen zweier Instrumentenreformen erhalten blieb. Der Beitrag folgt diesem Prozess und zeichnet die Entwicklung der Positionen verschiedener Akteure nach. Abstract: Roller Coasting Towards a “Socially Inclusive Labour Market”. On the Background of Recent Legislation for the “Creation of New Opportunities for Long-Term Unemployed People on the Labour Market in General and on the Socially Inclusive Labour Market” As of 2019, Germany introduced a new instrument of direct job creation for long-term unemployed people. Called “Social participation through labour market participation”, the new instrument preserves the tradition of a paradigm shift initiated in 2008: Instead of restricting direct job creation to activities that are “additional”, “in the public interest” and “neutral in terms of effect on competition”, the wage subsidy can be used by any employer for any kind of activity. This is expected to provide better chances of transition into unsubsidized employment. This paradigm shift has for long remained contested or not properly understood by many. It is therefore astonishing that it survived the trials and tribulations of two rounds of instrument reform. The article tracks this process and delineates how the standpoints of various actors evolved.

This paper analyzes the association between the duration of maternity leave and the division of housework, using a representative sample of Bavarian mothers who gave birth to their first child in 2007 under the new parenting benefit policy of the German federal government. The results show that mothers re-entering the labor market after a maximum break of 12 months after accouchement, which is in accordance with the intention of the parenting benefit policy, report more egalitarian housework arrangements than mothers with longer employment breaks. Yet, all women report a rather traditional division of labor with a relatively low contribution of their partners. Our finding that women who are highly educated and disapprove of traditional family roles report more egalitarian housework patterns is in line with previous research. Zusammenfassung Der Beitrag untersucht, ob unterschiedlich lange Erwerbsunterbrechungen von Müttern nach dem Übergang zur Erstelternschaft einen Einfluss auf die Aufteilung der Hausarbeit in Paarbeziehungen haben. Für die empirischen Analysen werden Daten einer repräsentativen Querschnittstudie über bayerische Mütter verwendet, die im Jahr 2007 ihr erstes Kind bekamen und für die damit das neue Elterngeldgesetz der Bundesregierung galt. Die Ergebnisse zeigen, dass Mütter, die frühzeitig den Wiedereinstieg in den Beruf realisieren und entsprechend den Anreizen des neuen Elterngeldgesetzes maximal für ein Jahr ihre Erwerbstätigkeit unterbrechen, ein partnerschaftlicheres Modell der Arbeitsteilung im Haushalt praktizieren als Mütter, die eine längere berufliche Pause einlegen. Dennoch ist nach wie vor ein traditionell ausgerichtetes Rollenmodell bei den untersuchten Paaren dominant, so dass sich der Beitrag der Väter zur Hausarbeit insgesamt auf einem niedrigen Niveau bewegt. Im Einklang mit anderen Studien steht der Befund, dass eine hohe Bildung und eine Abkehr von traditionellen Einstellungen eine partnerschaftlichere Hausarbeitsteilung begünstigen.

Cearadactylus atrox, a large pterodactyloid pterosaur represented by an incomplete skull and lower jaw from the Lower Cretaceous Santana Formation of Brazil, is a valid species. Diagnostic characters include a mandibular symphysis with a transversely expanded "spatulate" anterior end that is considerably wider than the rostral spatula, and a third rostral tooth that has a basal diameter more than three times that of the fifth tooth. Additional diagnostic characters, contingent upon assignment of Cearadactylus atrox to the Ctenochasmatidae, include: anterior ends of jaws divaricate and containing 7 pairs of rostral teeth and 6 pairs of mandibular teeth; marked dimorphodonty, with an abrupt change in tooth morphology; and a "high check". "Cearadactylus? ligabuei" Dalla Vecchia, 1993, based on an incomplete skull, also from the Santana Formation, is not related to Cearadactylus atrox, exhibits several ornithocheirid synapomorphies and is referred, tentatively, to Anhanguera. Cearadactylus atrox exhibits various synapomorphies of the Ctenochasmatidae (rostrum anterior to nasoantorbital fenestra greater than half total skull length, teeth in anterior part of dentition relatively elongate and pencil-shaped, premaxilla has at least 7 pairs of teeth), the defining synapomorphy of the Gnathosaurinae (rostrum with dorsoventrally compressed laterally expanded spatulate anterior expansion), and shares two synapomorphies with the Chinese gnathosaurine Huanhepterus quingyangensis (anterior tips of jaws divaricate, teeth restricted to anterior half of mandible). Two elongate cervical vertebrae, also from the Santana Formation and previously assigned to "Santanadactylus brasilensis", are tentatively referred to Cearadactylus. Reconstruction of the temporal history of the Ctenochasmatidae suggests that while ctenochasmatines became increasingly specialised for filter feeding, gnathosaurines changed from sieve feeding to piscivory, acquiring several cranial characters that are similar to those of ornithocheirids, a group that also includes large aerial piscivores that used a terminal tooth grab for prey capture. "Cearadactylus ? ligabuei" Dalla Vecchia 1993, ebenfalls mit einem unvollständigen Schädel belegt, ist nicht näher mit C. atrox verwandt. Im Gegensatz zu letzterem zeigt "C. ? ligabuei" signifikante Ähnlichkeiten mit den Ornithocheiridae. Unter Vorbehalt wird er hier der Gattung Anhanguera zugeordnet. C. atrox hat neben eindeutigen Synapomorphien der Ctenochasmatidae, z. B. erreicht das Rostrum anterior des nasoantorbitalen Fensters mehr als die halbe Schädellänge, die vordersten Zähne sind verlängert und stiftförmig und die das Prämaxillare trägt mindestens sieben Zahnpaare. Daneben besitzt C. atrox auch noch die entscheidende Synapomorphie der Gnathosaurinae, nämlich ein Rostrum mit dorsoventral komprimierter vorderem Auswuchs. Außerdem ist C. atrox gekennzeichnet durch zwei Autapomorphien des Gnathosaurinen Huanhepterus quingyangensis aus China: divergierende Schnauzenenden und Zähne begrenzt auf vordere Kieferhälfte. Schließlich werden zwei lange Halswirbel, die auch aus der Santana Formation stammen und bislang zu Santanadactylus brasiliensis gerechnet wurden, unter Vorbehalt zu Cearadactylus gestellt. Die Evolutionsgeschichte der Ctenochasmatidae ist durch eine zunehmende Spezialisierung auf filternde Ernährungsweise gekennzeichnet. AbstractAcademic research into the cultural changes that took place in Europe between 1400 and 1650 is notoriously fraught with terminological difficulties. With regard to the place of paganism and polytheism in Western culture, three questions in particular stand in the foreground: Most generally, is it adequate to isolate a period as "Renaissance" or "early modernity" and what is gained by doing so? Is the period called "Renaissance" characterized by a continuity of pagan and polytheistic elements or do we have to address the presence of pagan semantics as reception, revival, or, rather, invention? And finally, in terms of concepts of "religion", is the presence of pagan deities in public spheres an expression of "lived religion" or of a Renaissance "dream" of a pagan past that is syncretistically built into Christian "religion"?After a survey of influential contributions to this discussion, the article approaches the problem of Renaissance polytheism and paganism from a different point of view. Under the headline of material and visual culture, cultural studies have recently broken grounds for a new understanding of religious dynamics in public spheres. Major contributions to medieval and early modern visual culture are presented and subsequently applied to examples of what can be called a Renaissance pagan discourse. Arguing mainly methodologically, the article aims at introducing visual and material aspects into the study of Western esotericism and reflecting on the underlying discourses of inclusion and exclusion that so often have characterized academic study of religion.Focusing on the visual presence of pagan deities challenges common notions of a "Christian occident" with a monotheistic creed that in late antiquity won the upper hand over a pagan past. This narrative is dependent on a conceptualization of "religion" that is based on "faith", inner states of mind, belief-systems, and (holy) texts. On a deeper level of analysis, these conceptualizations correspond to two strong currents in the academic study of religion: a religionist conviction and a philological orientation. It is argued that both currents reflect strategies of distancing or even purgation and exorcism. If we take seriously the notion that religious ideas, convictions, and traditions are "acted out" in the public sphere, that they form part of people's identities in a unity of image, message, and body, and that the materiality of religion is something to move to the center of scrutiny, we will perhaps arrive at a better understanding of the status of paganism in post-ancient Europe. From the perspective of visual culture, the pagan gods are not a "dream", nor do they belong to a system outside "religion". They form a crucial element of people's identities. It is precisely the strategies of distancing, singularization, and exorcism that academic study of religion has to engage. Die wissenschaftliche Erforschung der kulturellen Veränderungen in Europa zwischen 1400 und 1650 ist bekanntermaßen mit terminologischen Schwierigkeiten behaftet. Was den Ort von Paganismus und Polytheismus in der westlichen Kultur betrifft, kommt drei Fragen besondere Bedeutung zu: Ist es überhaupt angemessen, eine Periode als ,,Renaissance" oder ,,Frühe Neuzeit" zu isolieren, und was ist damit gewonnen? Ist die Epoche der ,,Renaissance" durch eine Kontinuität paganer und polytheistischer Elemente gekennzeichnet oder ist die Präsenz paganer Semantiken als Rezeption, Revitalisierung oder gar als Erfindung anzusprechen? Und schließlich lässt sich im Hinblick auf den wissenschaftlichen Religionsbegriff fragen, ob die Präsenz paganer Gottheiten im öffentlichen Raum Ausdruck einer ,,lebenden Religion" ist oder eines ,,Traums" von einer paganen Vergangenheit, den die Renaissance synkretistisch in die christliche ,,Religion" integrierte?Nach einer Übersicht über einflussreiche Beiträge zu dieser Diskussion bringt der Artikel eine neue Sicht auf das Problem von Polytheismus und Paganismus in der Renaissance ins Spiel. Unter den Stichworten Materialität und Visualität haben die Kulturwissenschaften in jüngster Zeit neue Analyseinstrumente zum Verständnis religiöser Dynamiken im öffentlichen Raum entwickelt. Wichtige Deutungsansätze mittelalterlicher und frühneuzeitlicher visueller Kultur werden vorgestellt und anschließend auf Beispiele für einen ,,paganen Diskurs" der Renaissance angewandt. Die Ausrichtung des Artikels ist in erster Linie methodisch: er möchte die Elemente Visualität und Materialität in die Esoterikforschung einführen; damit ist eine kritische Reflexion auf die Diskurse von Inklusion und Exklusion verbunden, die über lange Zeit die Religionswissenschaft geprägt haben.Die methodische Ausrichtung auf die visuelle Präsenz paganer Gottheiten stellt überkommene Auffassungen eines ,,Christlichen Abendlands" in Frage, mit einer monotheistischen Überzeugung, die in der Spätantike die pagane Vergangenheit überwunden habe. Ein solches Narrativ ist eng verbunden mit einem Religionskonzept, welches auf ,,Glauben", inneren Bewusstseinszuständen und (heiligen) Texten beruht. Hinter solchen Konzepten stehen wiederum zwei einflussreiche Tendenzen der Religionswissenschaft: eine religionistische Überzeugung und eine philologische Orientierung. Der Beitrag argumentiert, dass beide Strömungen Ausdruck von Strategien der Distanzierung oder gar der Purifizierung und des Exorzismus sind. Wenn wir jedoch davon ausgehen, dass religiöse Ideen, Überzeugungen und Traditionen im öffentlichen Raum ,,ausagiert" und kommuniziert werden, dass sie Ausdruck von Identitäten in einer Einheit von Bild, Botschaft und Körper sind, und dass die Materialität von Religion vom Rand ins Zentrum der Aufmerksamkeit zu rücken ist, werden wir den Status des Paganismus im nachantiken Europa besser bestimmen können. Aus Sicht von visual culture sind die paganen Gottheiten weder ein ,,Traum", noch gehören sie einem System jenseits der ,,Religion" an. Sie sind ein zentrales Element von Identitäten. Es ist die Aufgabe der Religionswissenschaft, eben jene Strategien der Distanzierung, der Singularisierung und des Exorzismus zum Gegenstand ihrer Analyse zu machen.

Background:Spondyloarthritis is the term for a group of inflammatory chronic diseases primarily affecting the axial skeleton, as well as the peripheral joints. Regarding bone metabolism in these patients, several studies have reported higher levels of inflammatory activity (BASDAI, BASMI, ESR and CRP) in patients with osteoporosis compared to those without this disease, although no correlations were found.Objectives:To describe clinical, serological and biological characteristics, as well as bone and mineral metabolism, according to analytical and densitometric criteria in a patient cohort with spondyloarthritis.Methods:Observational, descriptive and cross-sectional study. A retrospective review was conducted of a database of patients with spondyloarthritis treated during outpatient visits at the Rheumatology Department of Hospital General Universitario de Ciudad Real between June 2018 and June 2019. Variables are described using measures of frequency and of central tendency and dispersion.Results:Cohort of 115 patients (64 men and 51 women). Average age 45.97 years (+/- 13.41 SD). Ankylosing spondylitis in 54 patients, psoriatic arthropathy in 24, spondyloarthropathy associated with inflammatory bowel disease in 8, undifferentiated spondyloarthritis in 18 and other types of spondyloarthritis in 11. Regarding treatment, 40.88% of patients received disease-modifying drugs (methotrexate, sulfasalazine, etc.) and 43.4% received biologic drugs (86% anti-TNF alpha, 12% anti-IL-17 and 2% anti-IL-12/23). Moreover, 53.04% had received corticosteroids during some phase of their disease. Vitamin D levels were 23.81 (+/- 10.5 SD) and 77.4% of patients had a vitamin D deficiency/insufficiency. Of the total cohort, 34.78% presented osteopenia and 3.58% osteoporosis (T-Score and Z-Score).Conclusion:In this study, patients with spondyloarthritis show high percentages of osteopenia and osteoporosis, undiagnosed until this time, along with vitamin D deficiency. This data suggests higher prevalences of these metabolic bone diseases. Summary Beginning with the observations that strategies for adverb-marking are very different in English and German, and that the respective histories of adverb-marking in these two languages ran parallel for considerable time, this paper endeavours to establish the chronological and systemic points of their divergence. An additional focus of the paper is the role of language standardization in the development of the system in both languages. It is concluded that perhaps the most crucial systemic factor in the decline of lich-suffixation as an adverb-marker in German is the very broad functional domain of lich-suffixation; this situation contrasts strongly with that of ly-suffixation in English. The standardization of the adjective-inflection system leading to a substitute strategy for adverb-marking is not a direct consequence of the decline of lich-affixation in adverb derivation, but does interact with it. In English, patterns of adverb-marking in different syntactic contexts show considerable diachronic differentiation; where large-scale variation is still observable by the time that prescriptive language control makes itself felt, increasing pressure is put upon the selection of conversion in adverb-formation. Résumé Partant de l’observation que les stratégies d’indication morphologique de la fonction adverbiale sont très différentes en anglais et en allemand, alors que l’histoire de la formation adverbiale dans ces deux langues s’est pourtant déroulée longtemps en parallèle, cet article tente d’établir les points de départ chronologique et systémique des divergences de ces stratégies. Nous nous penchons aussi sur le rôle qu’a joué la standardisation dans le développement du système de formation adverbiale dans les deux langues. Nous concluons que le facteur le plus important dans le déclin de la suffixation de lich en tant que signal de la fonction adverbiale en allemand réside dans le domaine fonctionnel très large de la suffixation de lich; cette situation présente un contraste significatif avec celle de l’anglais, où le domaine productif de ly se révèle plutôt restreint. La standardisation du système flexionnel de l’adjectif en allemand, qui sert à appuyer la conversion en tant que moyen morphologique pour signaler la fonction adverbiale, n’est pas directement suivie du déclin de l’affixation de lich dans le domaine adverbial, mais y joue un rôle. En anglais, on observe que le choix entre la conversion et la suffixation dépend en partie de l’environnement syntaxique; là où se manifeste encore de la variation à l’époque de la grammaire prescriptive, on peut constater l’intensification de la pression sur la conversion en tant que procédé morphologique. Zusammenfassung Bekanntlich sind die Strategien der Adverbmarkierung im Englischen und im Deutschen sehr verschieden; interessanterweise aber liefen die jeweiligen Entwicklungen der Adverbbildung lange Zeit parallel. Der vorliegende Aufsatz stellt einen Versuch dar, die zeitlichen und systemischen Ansatzpunkte des Auseinandergehens dieser Strategien festzulegen. Darüber hinaus untersuchen wir die Rolle der Standardisierung in der Geschichte der Adverbbildung. Wir schlagen vor, daß das wichtigste Moment beim Untergang der lich-Suffigierung als Signal der Adverbialfunktion im Deutschen im sehr breiten Funktionalbereich dieses Prozesses liegt; hierdurch unterscheidet sich die Situation im Deutschen stark von der im Englischen herrschenden. Die Standardisierung des Adjektivflektionssystems, die die Konversion als Strategie der Adverbmarkierung unterstützt, folgt nicht direkt aus der Abnahme der lich-Affigierung in der Adverbbildung, ist wohl aber damit verbunden. Im Englischen ist die Wahl zwischen lich-Suffigierung und Konversion zum Teil von der syntaktischen Umgebung abhängig; dort, wo es zur Zeit der präskriptiv arbeitenden Grammatiker noch auffallend Variation gibt, wird auf die Wahl der Konversion als Adverbbildungsmittel zunehmend Druck ausgeübt.

Old collections, new records, and data from global literature are used for taxonomic revisions and for a new reconstruction of the evolutionary history of the triangularly coiled clymenids, the Wocklumeriaceae, and their ancestors. Epiwocklumeria applanata is first reported from the topmost Wocklum Limestone at Hasselbachtal and Drewer, and this supports the distinction of an applanata Subzone just prior to the global Hangenberg Event which wiped out the whole group. The Wocklumeriaceae and Glatziellidae record of the famous Oberrödinghausen Railway Cut and of other Rhenish sections is revised. The Maïder of Southern Morocco has yielded first Parawocklumeria patens, paprothae, Wocklumeria sphaeroides plana, Kielcensia ingeniens n. sp., and Synwocklumeria mapesi n. sp. Parawocklumeria distributa Czarnocki forms the type-species of Tardewocklumeria n. gen. Lecto- and neotypes for several taxa are designated. The variability and paedomorphic patterns of Wo. sphaeroides are discussed. The Wocklumeriaceae represent the terminal Famennian (Upper Devonian VI-C/D) radiation of a long-ranging lineage which evolved in parallel to other clymenid groups. They are characterized by sutural features and by longidomic and very slowly expanding whorls. The polyphyletic traditional Gonioclymeniina are divided into the suborder Wocklumeriina (with Wocklumeriaceae, Glatziellaceae n.superfam. and Biloclymeniaceae) and into the Gonioclymeniaceae of the Clymeniina. Gyroclymenia Czarnocki is regarded as a junior synonym of Pleuroclymenia Schindewolf which, however, does not include the "Pleuro." americana and eurylobica groups. Pleuroclymenia represents the ancestral form of the Wocklumeriina and also the phylogenetical link with Platyclymenia (Varioclymenia) of the Clymeniaceae. The Gonioclymeniaceae had their roots in advanced Platyclymeniidae. Background:Spondyloarthritis is a group of chronic inflammatory diseases with involvement of the axial skeleton (mainly), and also of peripheral joints. Patients with spondyloarthritis have a significant prevalence of vitamin D levels below normal and that would correlate with the degree of activity of the disease.Objectives:To determine the association between vitamin D deficiency and the degree of activity of the disease (inflammatory activity) in a cohort of patients with spondyloarthritis.Methods:Case-control type analytical observational study. We propose a retrospective review of the database of patients with spondyloarthritis (according ASAS2010 criteria) who were treated in the outpatient clinics of the Rheumatology Service of the General University Hospital of Ciudad Real during June 2018 to June 2019. Patients with the data will be selected. necessary for the analysis of the variables under study. The numerical variables of normal distribution evaluated will be described using measures of frequency and measures of central tendency / dispersion as appropriate. To assess the association between vitamin D levels and activity index, the odds ratio (OR) is calculated, with a 95% confidence level and the T-student for related samples.Results:The final results of the study are presented. 115 patients were analyzed, of which 64 were men and 51 women, with an average age of 45.97 years (+/- 13.41 DE). 47% were ankylosing spondylitis, 21% psoriatic arthropathy, 16% undifferentiated spondyloarthritis, 7% spondyloarthropathy associated with inflammatory bowel disease and 9% were spondyloarthropathy associated with inflammatory bowel disease. The average of the activity was a BASDAI of 4.57 (+/- 2.35 SD) and measured by DAPSA was 12.61 (+/- 6.76 SD). 63 and 14 patients had activity measured by BASDAI and DAPSA, respectively. 49.56% patients presented an elevation of acute phase reactants. Vitamin D levels were 23.81 (+/- 10.5 SD). 77.4% presented figures of vitamin D deficiency or insufficiency. When performing the association analysis, the vitamin D deficit / insufficiency presented an OR 10 (95% CI: 3.66-27.29, p=<0.0001) with the degree of activity measured with BASDAI and DAPSA and against the elevation of RCP it was 3.63 (95% CI 1.43-9.25, p = 0.0092) and against the elevation of ESR it was 2.76 (95% CI 1.09-7, 0, p = 0.0438). Regarding the comparative analysis of means between vitamin D deficiency/insufficiency and BASDAI/DAPSA it was +3.29 (95% CI: 1.34-8.09, p=0.0084).Conclusion:Patients with spondyloarthritis, as in other autoimmune diseases, vitamin D deficiency is associated with increased inflammatory activity (BASDAI, DAPSA, RCP and ESR), measured in different time periods. Therefore, an optimization of vitamin D levels can imply an improvement in the patient’s clinical situation, measured by both BASDAI and DAPSA, as well as by RCP and ESR.In addition, it is necessary to monitor bone mineral density due to the risk of fracture in these patients for their multietiology (corticosteroid treatments, biological FAMEs, inflammatory activity).References:[1]Lange U, Teichmann J, Strunk J, Müller-Ladner U, Schmidt KL. AbstractThis paper proposes a sacramental vision of the world as both an expression of and an impetus for Christian mission in the face of the current ecological crisis. This is an outworking of Panentheist turns in recent theology and spirituality, although there is much variety in forms of Panetheism and also such emphases have a long Christian history. The paper examines a particular form of sacramental Panentheism as found in two pieces of writing by Pierre Teilhard de Chardin: e Priest and e Mass on the World. In both of these Teilhard de Chardin considers the world around him through the lens of the pattern of the eucharistic liturgy and the role of the priest. The world is offered; the Holy Spirit is invoked; and divine transformation is celebrated. These almost poetic meditations stress the divine compassion for and connection with the material world. Teilhard de Chardin's "eucharistic extensions" suggest seeing the cosmos as both a signifier of the Divine and a location of divine action and energy. Christian mission in this perspective demands: that we discover the truth of where we are; that we experience our location in nature deeply, even spiritually; that we seek the advancement of the world; in particular that it may be fashioned according to its destiny in God. The frame of the Eucharist shapes our perception of the world and utilises the worldly as a vehicle of divine transformation. Our attitudes to the world must be the inspiration for our activity in the world. The sacramental vision demands missional and ecological action. Cet article propose une vision sacramentelle du monde à la fois comme une expression de la mission chrétienne face à la crise écologique actuelle, et un élan de cette même mission pour y répondre. Ceci est une retombée des tournants panenthéistes dans la théologie et la spiritualité récentes, même s'il y a beaucoup de variétés dans les formes de panenthéisme et si de tels accents ont déjà une longue histoire chrétienne. L'article examine une forme particulière de panenthéisme sacramentel rencontré dans deux écrits de Pierre Teilhard de Chardin : Le Prêtre et La messe sur le monde. Abstract Abstract 2568 Background: Obesity is associated with an increased risk of development of adult AML (Relative Risk approx. 2-fold) (Ross J, Cancer Epidemiol Biomarkers Prev 2004;13:1810) and significantly higher mortality in pediatric AML (Lange B, JAMA 2005;293:203). We therefore examined the association of obesity with presenting characteristics in 2 recent large ECOG phase III adult AML trials to determine whether there was a unique clinical and genetic phenotype, and also the impact of obesity on clinical outcomes (complete remission - CR; early death - ED; overall survival - OS) in association with other known risk factors. The impact of obesity on receiving full-dose daunorubicin (D) was also evaluated in these studies. We included patients (pts) from E1900 receiving standard infusional cytarabine with intensified D (45 vs. 90mg/m2) in adults age ≤60 yrs (NEJM 2009;361:1249), and from E3999 receiving conventional intensive chemotherapy +/− the MDR-inhibitor zosuquidar in adults age >60 yrs (Blood 2010;116:4077). Obesity was defined as Body Mass Index (BMI) >30kg/m2. Methods: Pt baseline characteristics were compared using Fisher's exact (categories variables) or Wilcoxon rank sum tests (continuous variables). Logistic regression models were used to examine the association between obesity and CR or ED; Cox models stratified on induction treatment arms were used to examine the association between obesity and OS. Multivariate models to examine the effect of Obesity controlled for known prognostic factors (including cytogenetics & secondary AML - sAML). Results: A total of 1089 pts (E1900, n=651; E3999, n=438) with available BMI data were included, the median follow-up of living pts is 4.7 yrs. Obesity was prevalent, with n=359 (33%) of pts with a BMI>30 at presentation. For all patients, median BMI was 27.1 (range 16.7–93.0); for non-obese patients median BMI was 25.0 (range 16.7–29.96) while for obese patients the median BMI was 34.0 (range 30.0–93.0). Obese pts were older (p=0.06), and significantly more likely female gender (p=0.05), ECOG PS>0 (p=0.01), & Intermediate Risk cytogenetics (p=0.006) but not sAML (14% overall, p=ns). Genotyping for FLT3 & MLL was performed in E1900 pts (age ≤60yrs): there was no difference in incidence of FLT3-ITD, but lower incidence of MLL-PTD was observed (p=0.08) in obese pts (not performed in E3999) (See Table). Overall, only 3.7% of pts received <90% of intended D dose. However obesity was significantly associated with receiving <90% intended D dose: in E1900, 11% of obese pts received <90% intended D (45mg/m2 cohort, p<0.001; 90mg/m2 cohort p=0.002), while in E3999 4% obese pts received <90% intended D (45mg/m2, p=0.07). There was no clear difference in toxicity/adverse events during initial induction therapy reported in obese vs. non-obese pts. On multivariate analysis obesity was not significantly associated with achieving CR (p=0.09), and had no direct independent association with ED (p=0.38). Kaplan-Meier plots of OS are shown in Figure. On multivariate analysis, age (p<0.001); ECOG PS (p<0.001); cytogenetic risk group (p<0.001); sAML (p=0.03); gender (p=0.05); and peripheral blasts (p=0.003) but not obesity were significantly associated with OS. Receiving <90% intended D dose was marginally associated with increased hazard ratio for OS (HR 1.50, 95%CI 0.98–2.28, p=0.06). Conclusion: Obesity is associated with specific presenting clinical characteristics in adult AML (female, older, PS>0, Int. risk cytogenetics, less frequent MLL-PTD), but has no direct impact on CR, ED or OS in the setting of a controlled therapeutic trial. Obese pts are at risk of receiving <90% intended D dose, which may impact OS. This analysis suggests that factors that predispose to adult AML may present with a unique clinical phenotype. Background:Up to 98% of patients with systemic sclerosis (SSc) show involvement of the gastrointestinal system (GI) [1]. While meteorism, heartburn and GI dysmotility are very common and accessible to pharmacologic treatment on an evidence based level [1–3], checking for oropharyngeal dysfunction is usually not part of the standard diagnostic algorithm. However, in a survey of the German Network for Systemic Sclerosis (DNSS) patients reported coughing and/or a sore voice in up to 78% [1]. As impairment in speaking or swallowing for example does not only substantially reduce quality of life, it can also be very stigmatizing. In addition, the usual prokinetic therapy of GI-involvement, e.g. metoclopramide, does not appear to improve these symptoms. As the first step to approach this problem is the qualitative and quantitative description, we evaluated the oropharyngeal function in our cohort of SSc patients by detailed logopedic assessment.Objectives:To evaluate the frequency and type of oropharyngeal dysfunction, e.g. swallowing or speaking, in patients with SSc and to elucidate the correlating and associated factors, e.g. disease duration or modified Rodnan Skin Score.Methods:After obtaining written consent, oropharyngeal function using a standardized assessment protocol was evaluated in patients with SSc fulfilling the ACR/EULAR criteria by a speech therapist. Furthermore, we investigated whether oropharyngeal dysfunction is associated with patients’ characteristics. In addition, all patients received instruction for a training program to treat their individual oropharyngeal dysfunction.Results:37 patients with d/lSSc were assessed for eligibility. 34 patients met the inclusion criteria (3 patients did not speak German) and written consent was obtained.Oropharyngeal dysfunction (impairment of speaking, swallowing, breathing or oropharyngeal muscle function) was found in 29 of 34 (85%) of both l/dSSc patients. Neither the subtype of SSc, disease duration nor mRSS were significantly correlated with oropharyngeal dysfunction in general. Abstract Introduction: Hepatic veno-occlusive disease (VOD) is a serious complication of hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) and, in severe cases, is associated with multi-organ failure and mortality rates exceeding 80% (Coppell et al. Biol Blood Marrow Transplant, 2010, p157-168). In the US there are currently no FDA-approved treatments for severe VOD. Defibrotide, an oligonucleotide with a mechanism of action that encompasses both restoration of the thrombo-fibrinolytic balance and endothelial cell protection, has recently been approved for the treatment of severe VOD following HSCT in the EU. The data presented are based on the primary and secondary endpoint analyses provided to the European Medicines Agency (EMA) that formed the basis of the defibrotide approval in the EU. Methods: A pivotal phase 3 study examined the efficacy and safety of defibrotide 25 mg/kg/day in patients with severe VOD (n=102) compared to historical controls (n=32) (Defibrotide Summary of Product Characteristics. Villa Guardia, Italy: Gentium SpA; 2013). The study’s primary endpoint was complete response (CR) (in terms of improvements in total bilirubin and resolution of multi-organ failure measured by renal and/or pulmonary dysfunction) by 100 days post-HSCT; secondary endpoints included survival 100 days and 180 days post-HSCT. We calculated the number needed to treat (NNT) with defibrotide to achieve one complete response and the NNT to prevent one death 100 days post-HSCT in patients with severe VOD compared to historical controls who did not receive defibrotide in order to evaluate how defibrotide compared to other novel and efficacious agents used for rare conditions in hemato-oncology. NNT is calculated as the reciprocal of the absolute risk reduction (1/ARR), where ARR is equal to the control minus experimental event rates (Laupacis et al, New Engl J Med, 1988, p1728-1733). Results: In the defibrotide trial, complete response by day 100 was achieved in 23.5% of the defibrotide-treated patients and 9.4% of the historical controls (P=0.013), which equated to an NNT of 7 (1/(0.235-0.094)) to achieve one complete response 100 days post-HSCT. Day 100 survival was 38.2% in the defibrotide group and 25.0% in the historical control group (P=0.034) (Defibrotide Summary of Product Characteristics. Villa Guardia, Italy: Gentium SpA; 2013). Therefore, the NNT to prevent one death in this study was 8 (1/(0.382-0.25)). To compare the NNTs in this analysis with those in other studies, a literature search was conducted, identifying a selected number of pediatric oncology clinical trials published within the previous 10 years each of which reported 5-year EFS rates (Sorrell et al, Cancer, 2012, p4806-4814; La et al, Int J Radiat Oncol Biol Phys, 2011, p1151-1157; Chou et al, Cancer, 2009, p5339-5348; Lange et al, Blood, 2008, p1044-1053; MacDonald et al, Cancer, 2005, p2862-2871). NNTs calculated from that review ranged from 5 to 50. Conclusion: The results of this pivotal Phase 3 trial showed improved complete response and survival in defibrotide-treated patients compared to historical controls who did not receive defibrotide for the treatment of severe VOD. The number needed to treat to achieve this benefit proved either comparable or lower than the NNT obtained for other widely-accepted and approved therapeutic medical interventions in hemato-oncology. Zusammenfassung: Forschungsgegenstand dieses Artikels ist ein Begräbnis- und Ritualplatz der Kugelamphoren-Kultur der Fundstätte 14 in Kowal (Zentral-Polen). Die Stätte umfasst einen Submegalithen sowie einen Ritualplatz mit Tiergräbern und einer menschlichen Bestattung. Der Komplex kann auf die Zeit zwischen 3250/3100 und 2400/2150 v. Chr. datiert werden. Analysen haben gezeigt, dass der Platz über eine lange Zeit benutzt wurde, und dass die durchgeführten Rituale sehr komplex waren. Beweise wurden gefunden, dass an einigen Stellen rituelle Handlungen ohne Unterbrechung über viele Jahre durchgeführt wurden und einzelne Tieropfer und Niederlegungen nur durch einen Zeitraum von wenigen Jahren voneinander getrennt waren. Die Fund-Struktur einiger Gruben zeigt eine sehr penible Organisation des geheiligten Platzes und ermöglicht an einigen Stellen sogar eine Unterscheidung in Nutz- und rituelle Zonen. Weitere wichtige Informationen wurden durch die Untersuchung einer menschlichen Grablege an dieser Stätte gewonnen. Die Analyse der Grabbeigaben hat deren Natur als rituelle Gaben gezeigt; weiter weist sie auf eine dominante Rolle von Tieren im täglichen Leben der verstorbenen Person hin. Wichtige Daten wurden durch die paläo-biologische Untersuchung der menschlichen Knochen gewonnen. Die paläo-serologische Analyse ergab die Blutgruppe der bestatteten Person. Dies ist der erste derartige Nachweis in der Geschichte der europäischen neolithischen Forschung. Bei den Ergebnissen der DNA-Analyse handelt es eines Vertreters der Kugelamphoren-Kultur in der Literatur und zudem um eine von nur wenigen solcher Untersuchungen eines neolithischen Menschen. Einige der nachgewiesenen Allele sind die ältesten Beispiele dieses speziellen Allel-Typs, die in menschlichen Überresten bis heute identifiziert wurden. Die DNA-Analysen belegen eine Laktose-Intoleranz der bestatteten Person, sie legen weiter eine genetische Verwandtschaft mit der Bevölkerung aus der Region des Fruchtbaren Halbmondes nahe. Die Analyse des stabilen Sauerstoff-Isotopen-Verhältnisses zeigt Muster für häufigeren Ortswechsel und das Entwöhnungsalter. Analysen von stabilen Kohlenstoff- und Stickstoff-Isotopen-Verhältnissen haben Rückschlüsse auf die Ernährung ermöglicht; besondere Aufmerksamkeit verdient die Tatsache, dass bis zu 25 % der Kohlenhydrat-haltigen Nahrung aus Hirse bestanden hat. Das ist der früheste Isotopen-gestützte Nachweis von Hirse in der menschlichen Ernährung in Mitteleuropa. Le site comporte un sub-mégalithe, une structure rituelle avec des dépôts d’animaux et une sépulture humaine. Il fut occupé pendant une longue période allant de 3250/3100 à 2400/2150 av. J.-C. et les rituels étaient complexes: certains furent célébrés au même endroit pendant longtemps, tandis que les sacrifices et dépôts d’animaux n’étaient séparés que par de courts intervalles de peutêtre quelques années. Le remplissage de plusieurs fosses démontre une organisation précise de l’espace sacré, et il a même été possible de faire une distinction entre les actes de déposition rituelle et les dépôts de type utilitaire à l’intérieur de ces fosses. L’étude de la sépulture humaine a également fourni d’importants indices. Il en ressort qu’un individu intentionnellement choisi parmi les membres de ‘l’aristocratie’ locale a été la victime d’un meurtre rituel. L’analyse du mobilier funéraire indique qu’il s’agit d’offrandes rituelles et suggère que les animaux jouaient un rôle déterminant dans la vie de cet individu. L’étude de ses ossements a fourni un important ensemble de données, y compris les résultats d’une analyse sérologique permettant d’identifier – pour la première fois pour le Néolithique européen – le groupe sanguin de cette homme. Dans une étude également pionnière pour la culture des amphores globulaires, l’analyse ADN a permis de décrire la composition génétique d’un de ses membres, une rareté dans les études sur le Néolithique. Ceux provenant de l’analyse des isotopes stables du carbone et de l’azote nous permettent de reconstruire l’alimentation de notre individu ; en particulier le millet fournissait jusqu’à 25 % de sa consommation en glucides. Ce résultat constitue le premier indice isotopique de la présence du millet dans l’alimentation des populations de l’Europe centrale. Abstract: Site 14 in Kowal (central Poland), a funerary and ritual place of the Globular amphora culture forms the subject of this article. The site includes a sub-megalith, a ritual feature with animal burials and a human burial. The complex can be dated to a period spanning from 3250/3100 to 2400/2150 BC; it was used over a long period, and the rituals carried out were complex. Rituals were performed over many years in certain areas, while individual acts of animal sacrifice and deposition may have been separated by a short interval of just a few years. The fill of some pits shows that the sacred space was carefully organised and it has been possible to distinguish between some utilitarian and ritual deposits within them. Other important information is provided by the study of a human burial discovered at the site. It is possible that a deliberately chosen individual from the tribal ‘aristocracy’ was the victim of a ritual murder. The analysis of the grave goods reveals that they were ritual offerings, and these suggest that animals played a dominant role in the deceased man’s daily life. The study of his bones provides important new insights, including those from a palaeo-serological analysis revealing his blood group, a first in the history of European Neolithic research. The results of DNA analysis constitute the first description of the genetic traits of a representative of the Globular amphora culture, among very few such DNA profiles available for a Neolithic person. Some of the alleles discovered are the oldest examples of particular alleles among those identified in human remains so far. DNA evidence suggests that the individual was lactose intolerant, and it demonstrates a genetic relationship with the Fertile Crescent. The analysis of stable oxygen isotope ratios shows patterns compatible with either residential mobility or weaning age. The analysis of stable carbon and nitrogen isotope ratios allowed us to reconstruct the individual’s diet; particular attention is drawn to the fact that up to 25 % of his carbohydrate diet consisted of millet. This is the earliest isotopic evidence for the presence of millet in the diet of people living in Central Europe.

Außerhalb der archäologischen Forschung ist das Thema Kind schon seit längerem in den Mittelpunkt des Interesses gerückt, was in dem eigenen interdisziplinär ausgerichteten Forschungszweig Kindheitsforschung gipfelte. Innerhalb der Archäologie ist das Kind lange Zeit kaum behandelt worden mit dem Argument, das prähistorische Kind sei durch die vorhandenen Quellen nicht greifbar. In den letzten Jahren hat sich diese Sichtweise geändert und es wird versucht zu skizzieren, welches Potenzial das Thema für die Forschung bietet. Der Beitrag hat es sich zur Aufgabe gemacht, möglichst nah am fassbaren Quellenmaterial das Thema Kind zu vertiefen. Gerade weil für die Späte Bronzezeit kaum Aussagen zum Kind gemacht werden, bilden die urnenfelderzeitlichen Leichenbrände des Gräberfeldes von Zuchering-Ost (Stadt Ingolstadt), die im Rahmen einer Dissertation eingehend thematisiert wurden, den Ausgangspunkt. Auch andere Gräberfelder kommen zur Sprache. Zum Zwecke eines Abgleiches wird versucht, sich dem Kind der Urnenfelderzeit anhand von Siedlungsmaterial zu nähern. Ein Blick in die Hallstattzeit soll Kontinuität und Veränderung in der Behandlung von Kindern sichtbar machen.En dehors de la recherche archéologique, l’intérêt porté depuis quelques temps déjà au thème de l’enfant a débouché sur la création d’un secteur de la recherche interdisciplinaire sur l’enfance. En archéologie, on ne s’est guère intéressé à ce thème pendant longtemps sous prétexte que les sources disponibles ne permettaient pas de saisir l’enfant préhistorique. Cette attitude a évolué ces dernières années et l’on s’efforce d’évaluer le potentiel que pourrait représenter ce thème pour la recherche. Cette contribution veut approfondir le thème de l’enfant en collant le plus possible aux sources identifiables. Et c’est précisément parce que le Bronze tardif n’a guère livré d’informations sur les enfants que cette étude part des crémations de la nécropole de Zuchering-Ost, datées des Champs d’Urnes et traitées de manière approfondie dans le cadre d’une dissertation. D’autres nécropoles sont également abordées. Pour ajuster les résultats, on tente d’approcher l’enfant des Champs d’Urnes à travers le matériel des habitats. Un aperçu du Hallstatt vise à mettre en évidence la continuité et les changements qu’a connu le traitement des enfants.Beyond archaeological research, the subject child has attracted a lot of attention for some time. This culminated in the interdisciplinary research area of ‘children and childhood studies’. Within archaeology the subject child was not discussed for a long time arguing that the prehistoric child is intangible with aid of existent sources. During the last years this perspective has changed, and the potential of this topic for the archaeological research has been identified. This paper enlarges upon the subject child by staying as closely as possible on source material. Precisely, as for the late Bronze Age there are almost no statements about children, the starting point is the cremation remains of the cemetery Zuchering-Ost (city of Ingolstadt), which are addressed in a doctoral thesis. Other cemeteries with known child burials are also discussed. For purposes of comparison, this paper approaches the child of the late Bronze Age (urnfield period) also by settlement material. In addition, the continuity and change in the treatment of children in the Hallstatt period is shortly discussed.
