Uma nova lectina extraída da semente de Artocarpus integrifólia, denominada KM+ foi recentemente descrita. KM+ e haptotática para neutrófilos, promove a aglutinação de hemácias dos grupos A, B, 0, estimula a proliferação de linfócitos do baço de camundongos e liga-se em &#945 D-manose, &#945 metil manosidio e &#945 D-glicose. Os objetivos desse trabalho foram estudar dispositivos piezelétricos contendo em cada um, uma das MICs recombinantes (rTgMIC1 ou rTgMIC4) e utilizá‐los na determinação das constantes de afinidade entre elas com a fetuína e asialofetuína, empregando o modelo da Isoterma de Langmuir.

Carbohydrates are displayed on the outer layer of cells by glycoproteins and glycolipids, forming the glycocalyx. These carbohydrates hold a huge amount of information, acting as a cell 'barcode', facilitating communication and acting as targets for pathogens. The proteins which recognise carbohydrates in nature are called lectins. Synthetic mimics of these proteins, binding through noncovalent interactions in water, are termed 'synthetic lectins'. The mannose-binding lectin from snowdrop (Galanthus nivalis agglutinin; GNA) was produced in Escherichia coli and purified as a functional protein after denturation/renaturation. The toxicity of plant lectins to insects after oral ingestion was investigated by incorporating the proteins into insect diets. Bioassays carried out using an artificial diet system demonstrated that kidney bean (Phaseolus vulgaris) lectin (PHA) caused a significant decrease in survival of larvae of the tomato moth, Lacanobia oleracea.
