Resumen
The prevalence of lip neoplasms in populations of white sucker (Catostomus commersoni) was compared among five locations in the St. Lawrence River basin, Quebec, Canada. One site in the St. Lawrence River was monitored from May 15 to October 30 for two consecutive years (1994-1995) to study the seasonal variations in the prevalence of lip neoplasms. Other sites were sampled within a few days in October 1995 or May 1996. Lesions were found in fish from four of the five sites. The prevalence at each site varied from 0 to 41.6% and, as found in the Great Lakes, was highest in fish populations fro

Cutaneous and mucocutaneous plasmacytoma (PCT) is a common neoplasm of dogs. Tumors can be single or multiple and occur predominantly in the oral cavity, lip, ears, digits, and trunk. Although these tumors typically offer no diagnostic challenge for the pathologist, subsets of PCTs with atypical morphologic configurations may make differentiation from other neoplasms difficult. We describe 6 cases of canine cutaneous and mucocutaneous PCT with pseudoglandular arrangement of neoplastic cells. The mean age of affected dogs was 11.3 y, and multiple breeds and sites were affected. Histologically,

ABSTRACT Carcinoma ex-pleomorphic adenoma is a rare salivary gland malignancy, usually derived from a long-standing or recurrent benign tumor, the pleomorphic adenoma.1 This rare tumor comprises less than 4% of salivary gland neoplasms and 11.6% of salivary gland carcinomas. They mostly involve the “major” salivary glands1 and their occurrence in the minor salivary gland is considered rare, especially in the upper lip. So far there is only one report of CXPA occurring in the upper lip in the literature.13 Hereby, we present a case of carcinoma ex-pleomorphic adenoma in a 52-year-old woman who

The paper dwells on examining mortality among men due to malignant neoplasms (MNs) in Russia and in Norilsk and Monchegorsk, two monotowns located in the Arctic zone with the only industry there being nickel production. Nickel is a well-known carcinogen. Given rather small population numbers in these two towns, the authors calculated mortality due to MNs that was aver- aged over 8 years (2010–2017) for 5-year age groups and standardized mortality ratios (SMR) for employable and post- employable ages as per this nosology in general and specific MNs localizations as well. Abstract Abstract 4905 Background: While understanding of Acute Myelogenous Leukemia (AML) pathogenesis has advanced greatly in recent years, drug discovery and development have added little to therapy. Ceramide and other sphingolipids are of therapeutic interest for many neoplasms (Jiang Y, DiVittore NA, Kaiser JM, et al. Combinatorial therapies improve the therapeutic efficacy of nanoliposomal ceramide for pancreatic cancer. Cancer Biol Ther. Oct 1 2011;12(7):574–585). Cellular ceramide accumulation favors a pro-apoptotic state, while accumulation of sphingosine-1-phosphate promotes survival

The c-kit receptor is responsible for transmission of promigration signals to melanocytes; its downregulation may be involved in malignant progression of human melanocytic neoplasms. Expression of this receptor has not been examined in normal or neoplastic melanocytes from dogs. In this study, 14 benign dermal and 61 malignant mucosal melanocytic tumors were examined for c-kit (KIT) expression. Sites of the mucosal melanomas were gingiva (not further specified; n = 30), buccal gingiva ( n = 6), soft palate ( n = 4), hard palate ( n = 5), tongue ( n = 7), lip ( n = 6), and conjunctiva ( n = 3).

Abstract* Pleomorphic adenomas (PA) are the most prevalent benign salivary gland neoplasms. They may occur at any age, with a peak incidence between 40 and 60 years of age. They are more commonly observed in females (60%). These tumors can arise in both the major and minor salivary glands. Approximately 80% of these tumors are diagnosed in the parotid gland, whereas 10% arise in the minor salivary glands, mainly affecting the palates, followed by the lips and cheeks. This report describes two cases of unusual lesions that were diagnosed as (PA) in the minor salivary glands in our department vi
