A China ocupa uma posição de destaque na economia mundial. O setor logístico é um dos principais eixos de competitividade para a evolução do abastecimento de um mercado de consumo. Além disso, um bom desempenho logístico é quintessencial na atividade de uma empresa, podendo até ser uma fonte de vantagem competitiva; no reverso da medalha, um mau desempenho nesta área de atuação pode levar a insatisfação por parte de clientes e ao desperdício de oportunidades de negócio. Na sua pesquisa de 2006, Ilhéu apontou o sistema logístico e de distribuição chineses como um dos problemas das empresas portuguesas ao estabelecerem-se na China, entre outros. Uma revisão de literatura que cobre o que é a logística, qual a evolução do sistema logístico chinês, e qual o impacto logístico do e-commerce na China foi apresentada. A partir disso, foi apresentado um modelo de análise que permite avaliar a perceção das empresas portuguesas sobre a logística na China, com base em três dimensões: "disponibilidade de serviços de valor-acrescentado em Fornecedores de Serviços Logísticos (FSLs)", "eficiência de FSLs", e a "adequação dos FSLs ao e-commerce". Os resultados obtidos oferecem duas China occupies a relevant position in the world economy. The logistics sector is one of the main competitiveness axes for a consumer market's supply evolution. Moreover, good logistic performance is quintessential in a company's activity, and may even be a source of competitive advantage; on the other hand, a poor performance in this area may lead to customer dissatisfaction and to the waste of business opportunities. In her 2006 research, Ilhéu signalled the Chinese logistics and distribution system as one of the several issues faced by Portuguese companies when seeking to operate in the Chinese market. A literature review covering what logistics is, how the Chinese logistics system has evolved, and the logistical impact of e-commerce in China is presented. Drawing from this, an analysis model that allows for the assessment of the perception of Portuguese companies on logistics in China was presented, based on three dimensions: "availability of value-added services in LSPs", "efficiency of LSPs", and "LSPs adequacy to e-commerce". The results obtained offer two main conclusions: that Portuguese companies have the perception that the value-added services available in China are adequate to distributing their products there and that the LSPs are adequate for distributing their products on the Chinese e-commerce market, even though they do not consider that the LSPs available for distributing their products in the Chinese market are efficient.

With the changes in the business environment, there has been an increasing dependence on the skills of companies to deliver customer adapted products quickly and on time around the world. Therefore, instead of being caught in the high cost and unsatisfactory result of managing logistics operation by themselves, many companies have chosen to outsource some or all of their logistics and supply chain activities to specialist third party logistics companies (TPL). Hence, the TPL companies are managing and integrating their customers’ supply chains to increase the competitiveness and profitability.  It is argued, that knowledge is becoming the only resource capable of offering competitive advantage and continued growth and prosperity for supply chain partners. Therefore, the effective transfer and creation of knowledge has become a top priority in a supply chain. Since third party logistics companies have taken on the major responsibility of managing customers’ supply chains, effective knowledge management has become a top priority for them as well.

The purpose of this thesis is to describe the knowledge transfer and creation processes within the third party logistics dyadic relationships in the context of supply chain integration.

The thesis has been carried out by using inductive and conductive research approaches and the qualitative study has been carried out by applying multiple case studies as a research strategy. The empirical material is gathered from four companies in two third party logistics relationships. Data was collected through several interviews conducted at the target companies and the findings have been analysed using the existing theory stated in the frame of reference.

The main conclusions from this study are that the buyer-seller context determines the way knowledge is transferred and created in the dyadic third party relationships, and the companies did not have any specific strategies or governance structures for managing knowledge although considered important. How the companies in the dyadic TPL relationships transfer and create knowledge changes with the evolvement of the relationship. Knowledge transfer must penetrate all companies and all organizational levels to increase a holistic and integrated understating of the whole supply chain to achieve value created. How TPL companies create and utilize knowledge internally vary due to company size and the practices used. In addition, the customer company using multiple TPL providers is able to transfer and create knowledge from all TPL relationships to increase the efficiency and effectiveness of its supply chain. Due to the buyer-seller characteristic, however, there are no or very little barriers for knowledge creation and transfer in a dyadic TPL relationship.

The treatise analyses the issues around budgets and examines budget expenditure control procedures. The research method selected has been formulated from the research onion process (Saunders, Lewis and Thornhill 2009). This methodology first identifies the research approach, research strategy, timelines and data collection methods. As part of the research process, a quantitative approach has been taken and a survey was carried out in relation to the collection of quantitative data for the purposes of the treatise research. The final analysis of the survey results is reflected in the conclusion of the research findings. Budget expenditure control procedures provide a company with a method of control for managing actual spending against the budget. Most companies have a refined practice of budget preparation, and in the larger companies, these are implemented across all departments and carried out by respective managers. Once the budget is in place, it is the responsibility of the managers to ensure that those having expenditure authorisation adhere to it. If control procedures are well managed, this allows for improved efficiency in operations and can lead to benefits in budget performance. Control procedures that are inefficient and poorly managed will inhibit budget objectives being achieved. The control procedures for budget expenditure can be formulated and applied to optimise budget performance and to control budget variance. Formal budget expenditure control procedures, as part of a company’s budget strategy, can provide managers with an effective business tool that improves current budget spending control procedures. This will then result in the identification of potential efficiency gains and improve budget performance.

A headquarters-centered group company considered in this thesis consists of one headquarters and several operationally semi-autonomous production subsidiaries. This research investigates the situation where the headquarters provides supply chain management services shared among subsidiaries to take advantage of risk pooling effect, economies of scale, and information and resource sharing. This thesis considers three different but related scenarios. The first research scenario formulates two customer order management models. One is Headquarters-centered Common Order Management (HQ-COM) where customer orders are processed by the headquarters and then allocated to the subsidiaries. The other is Subsidiary-Autonomous Order Management (SD-AOM) where subsidiaries process customer orders relatively independent of each other. Two scenarios with demand uncertainty are simulated. One is that the order quantity exceeds the production capacity of each individual subsidiary so that the order has to be split before allocating to the subsidiaries. The other scenario is that the total quantity of selected customer orders is within the production capacity of a single subsidiary so that the orders should be merged into one batch before allocating to one subsidiary. The results show that HQ-COM outperforms SD-AOM in terms of both its performance and its robustness against demand variability. This achievement is largely due to the effects of pooling of different customer orders and sharing of production capacity among the subsidiaries. The second research scenario develops two sourcing management models: Headquarters-centered Common Sourcing Management (HQ-CSM) and Subsidiary-Autonomous Sourcing Management (SD-ASM). In HQ-CSM, two management policies are examined. One is Order Coordination policy in which common replenishment epochs are proposed by the headquarters and the subsidiaries are encouraged to coordinate the timing of their orders based on the common replenishment epochs. The other is Order Consolidation policy in which the headquarters places a combined order with the supplier. The results show that HQ-CSM outperforms SD-ASM in terms of cost and robustness against demand uncertainties. This achievement is largely due to the synergistic ordering process, the economies of scale and risk pooling effect by the implementation of transshipments. The results also reveal that Order Consolidation policy always performs better than Order Coordination policy especially in face of high demand uncertainties and high service level requirement. The third scenario considers a headquarters-managed centralized distribution center (HQ-CDC) serving multiple subsidiaries with stochastic demands. There are two kinds of inventory spaces: dedicated space and leased space. Two pricing policie--the constant pricing and the dynamic pricing--are compared. Two decision models are formulated. One is Integrated Model where the group company makes decisions on the replenishment and the space allocation simultaneously. The other is Bilevel Programming Model where the HQ-CDC and the subsidiaries make decisions sequentially. The results show that the HQ-CDC’s profit is noticeably improved in Bilevel Programming Model by the implementation of the constant pricing policy. The results also reveal that the leased space as a supplement of the reserved space leads to a more flexible space utilization and a reduced group company’s total cost especially in face of large demand and high demand fluctuation.

The requirement to decrease the impact of business logistics activities on the environment is constantly increasing. A number of workshops organised by the University of Hull involving academics and practitioners in supply chain management to examine the challenges of the next generation supply chains, showed that environmental issues along with cost effectiveness is always the major and most imminent concern identified. Green logistics refers to “attempts to measure and minimise the ecological impact of logistics activities” (Reverse Logistics Executive Council, 2010). These activities include green purchasing, green material management and manufacturing, green distribution, warehousing and marketing, as well as reverse logistics (Hervani, Helms & Sarkis, 2005). The overall objective of green logistics is to reduce impact on the environment, lower production cost, and improve product value. Green logistics can also lead to decrease the inventory level, reduce logistics cost, increase revenue and profit, improve service, enrich information for reverse logistics, and enhance company image (Murphy, Poist & Braunschweig, 1995). The purpose of this dissertation is to investigate and analyse how and if companies can add value to their firm by implementing “green logistics” to their transportations activities, thus achieving a competitive advantage. The research samples are small trucking firms located in South Sweden, and were chosen in order to understand the value of green logistics for small trucking firms. The method used to achieve the objective of this dissertation is an inductive research approach. The empirical data was collected through a semi-structured interview guide, where four companies within in the transport industry were interviewed. The collected data was then compared with the theoretical review and analysed.

Grain companies in the United States face many different challenges operating in a mature industry with a rich history in agriculture. The purpose of this thesis project is to examine a solution for a grain companies operating in a geographical region with considerable competition. By focusing on differentiation in level of services offered to customers, grain companies can become more profitable. The results of this study offer a solution, which centers on supply chain logistics. The objective of this project is to examine the make vs buy decision for operating a truck and trailer for grain transportation. Determining the decision factors that influence which method is the most optimal and to provide a method of relating the costs associated with each choice. In order to make an economic decision, a Truck Cost Calculator will be created to best reflect the most realistic cost structure for owning and operating a truck and trailer in house during an average crop year for a facility in Pratt County, KS. Other decision factors that are non-economic that provide a strategic benefit to a business will also be part of the project. Using industry data and relevant variables for the cost calculator, the end result is that operating choosing to operate truck logistics in house is the most cost effective option in the make vs buy decision. The optimal choice will differ individually between businesses when a strategic approach is taken to assess whether or not logistics is a core competency in the supply chain.

Background:                 The development of recent means of transportation, information has increased opportunities for global business and it is very common that the companies involved in global business often need to outsource logistic function, as they cannot perform global logistics on their own. The need of service effectiveness for companies and operations efficiency from logistics service providers involves the minimization of the uncertainties associated with logistics outsourcing, therefore risks reduction measures must be implemented using logistics outsourcing. Research questions:     ­-    How do the Pakistani manufacturing and exporting companies currently outsource their logistics function in their downstream supply chain? -           What benefits they seek with respect to 3PL and 4PL? -           What factors they consider for outsourcing logistics? Purpose:                       To investigate the current logistics outsourcing situation of the Pakistani Manufacturing and Exporting Companies. What logistics functions they outsource, and the focus of the study is downstream supply chain. To study application of logistics outsourcing concepts i.e. 3PL and 4PL, services provided by these providers, and what benefits companies seek. What factors are important for them for logistics outsourcing and what fectors they consider for logistics outsourcing, what factors among these are important for them, who make the decision for logistics outsourcing? Method:                        The empirical data and the conclusions made from it are based on quantitative facts and figures collected through an e-survey. Results are drawn from responses of manufacturing companies that all outsource logistics. This thesis is written from a positivistic perspective with a deductive approach. Conclusions:                 The current logistics outsourcing situation in Pakistan is found to be uneven companies majorly concerned in textile manufacturing and are not in knowledge of the newer logistics outsourcing 4PL. Downstream supply chain is followed by cross-docking shipments. Cost factor is not that much important for companies but the timely delivery is more important.

The purpose of this thesis is to describe logistics collaboration in supply chains. During the past two decades, a new trend towards integration and collaboration in supply chains has been recognised among researchers as well as among business practitioners. This philosophy is called supply chain management and has received enormous attention in logistics research. Collaboration based on supply chain management is expected to reduce total cost and improve service towards the supply chain’s end customers at the same time.

The argumentation in existing literature is however seldom underpinned by more rigorous empirical material and becomes therefore conceptual and superficial. Furthermore, it is incongruous about what actually is done when companies collaborate and what more specific effects are achieved. Therefore more research, especially survey based, is needed in order to verify existing literature. In this thesis the perspective of a focal company is taken in order to concretise the ideas from supply chain management and investigate what it means for an individual company.

Based on supply chain management literature, a questionnaire was constructed which focused on the content of the collaboration and its driving forces, barriers and effects. Furthermore, differences between triadic collaborations, i.e. collaborations where both the supplier and customer of the focal company are involved, and dyadic collaborations (collaboration with either a supplier or a customer) were investigated.

The questionnaire was mailed to 482 Swedish manufacturing companies which had a turnover of more than SEK 100 Million per annum and with more than 100 employees. This population was considered as a typical target group for the supply chain management literature. 177 usable answers were received which gives a response rate of 37.8%.

The results from this study are summarised in five propositions. It is proposed that the content of logistics collaboration in the Swedish manufacturing companies’ supply chains is rather operative in its character and does not reach the strategic level that is advocated by the literature. In particular, the degree of process approach in the collaborations is low. This area has a great potential for improvements.

The results also indicate that the intensity of the collaboration, i.e. frequency of information sharing, degree of joint operative planning of involved supply chain activities, and process approach, are positively related to the effects experienced of the collaboration. The relation between joint strategic planning and the operative collaboration issues is however weak and does not seem to influence the effects experienced as a consequence of the collaboration.

Furthermore, engagement from top management is recognised as an important driver for successful collaboration. Top management involvement means an increased internal focus on the collaboration and facilitates more intensive collaboration.

Finally, differences in attitude and behaviour are recognised depending on whom the collaboration partner is. The study shows that the traditional way of managing supply chain relations still dominates, where the focal company “demand what he wants” upstream much more than in the case for downstream relations. Such differences according to SCM literature should not exist and can be considered as a serious threat for SCM based collaboration.

Corporate environmental responsibilities of organizations have become an eminent consideration among organizational managers and scholars in recent years. Environmental issues have gained much momentum that virtually every group of stakeholders is now demanding environmental efficiency from contemporary organizations. This study investigated environmental practices of two logistics companies in Sweden with the aim to shed light on the measures taken by these companies in response to the environmental impacts of their business activities. We investigated: How and why are logistics service providers in Sweden responding to the demand for environmental responsible business practice?   Based on a qualitative research design, a case study was conducted with DHL and PostNord AB. The results of the study show that the case companies perform environmental practices to reduce the carbon emissions of their business operations due to stakeholders demand. The findings identify stakeholders such as, customers, the Swedish government and shareholders/investors as those that exert the most pressure on the case companies regarding their environmental practices and initiatives.

Resumen

This study involved the use of a quantitative, cross-sectional design to test the tenet of Sustainable Supply Chain Management (SSCM) that connects a logistics organization’s ability to adapt to dwindling natural resources and economic sustainability. Through an examination of the correlation of alternative fuel use and the financial measurement of cost as percent of sales in U.S.-based, publicly traded third party logistics (3PL) companies using 2013 financial data, a statistically significant, strong, negative correlation was affirmed, indicating a correlation between alternative fuel use and improved financial performance. The statistical correlation of implementing alternative fuels and financial performance serves to remove the assumed financial barrier to implementing alternative fuels for logistics practitioners in the context of the impending apocalypse of a global $10.2 trillion transportation system that is fueled by oil that will eventually run out. As a field of study, sustainability in logistics has few theoretical frameworks and there is a clear need for quantitative research to evaluate those that do exist. This study addressed the need for research by adding directly to the body of logistics sustainability knowledge, establishing a template for future research, and reaffirming the need for the standardization of non-financial reporting.

Resumen

The purpose of this Bachelor Thesis is to study performance measurement within two lo-gistics companies and how they balance financial and non-financial performance measures.

The study takes a qualitative approach to find out how, and also why the two selected logis-tics companies handle performance measurement the way they do. Current discussions on the topic of performance measurement involve whether smaller companies can benefit from measuring non-financial aspects of its business and develop measurement systems such as the Balance Scorecard, or whether this is a waste of a small companies’ scarce resources and is something that can best be utilized by larger companies with more resources. Some au-thors argue concerning performance measurements that size influence the firm’s controlling systems, as larger firms tend to rely more on formal administrative control while small and medium sized companies could therefore be seen as having a more informal administrative control. According to the initial survey done in this study company size seemed to be re-lated to the extent which companies were involved in performance measurement.

The two logistics companies participating in the main study are Hemglass and Kronans Droghandel. KD work deliberately with performance measurements based on long-term thinking in connection to their strategy while Hemglass doesn't work with these issues to the same extent. In accordance to our findings in this study Kaplan & Norton (1996) state that the major expected benefits and reasons for using both financial and non-financial measures materialize when the relationships between the two are understood. These rela-tionships can be hard to establish, some links are more obvious than others, but if this can be managed the performance measurement efforts will be more fruitful.

Motivation: Reverse Logistics is part of the concept of Sustainable Supply Chain Management, which is the supply chain consideration of the economic, environmental and social goals of all the stakeholders. These considerations should be balanced in a so-called Triple Bottom Line approach. However, literature approaching the social aspects is almost inexistent and the Triple Bottom Line approach is not common when examining the supply chain problems. The study focuses on companies operating in the Swedish market, since the country is an example in many TBL aspects. Moreover, the study is limited to the fashion apparel industry due to its high amount of returns.  Objectives: The purpose of this study is to explain how Reverse Logistics in the fashion industry can contribute to the social dimension of Triple Bottom Line, as well as to identify the tools and strategies used by the fashion companies to balance the trade-offs between the Triple Bottom Line dimensions in the context of Reverse Logistics and explain the reasons behind the decisions.  Approach: This is a multiple case study of six companies. Both primary (semi-structured interviews) and secondary (corporate reports and websites) sources were used to collect data. The empirical data was analyzed using pattern matching, first each case individually and thereafter cross-case analyses were performed.  Conclusions: The social contribution of Reverse Logistics in the fashion industry is mainly limited to donations to charity. In addition, it is not focused on the workforce, as suggested by the literature. Regarding the trade-offs in Triple Bottom Line, most of the fashion firms do not recognize them in the context of Reverse Logistics. Therefore, companies do not need to prioritize the Triple Bottom Line dimensions or use tools to balance them.

Introduction – Supply chains increase in size and complexity, more actors are becoming involved and an increased collaboration among actors are a necessity. Still, undesired conflicts occurs and are unavoidable in a collaboration. There are ways to reduce the negative effects and improve management of conflicts provided by previous researchers focus on conflicts and conflict management in general. However, this thesis emphazises on investigating what conflicts that occur within different collaboration setups that can be attributed to the type of logistics company involved. Therefore, the following purpose is stated: Investigate what types of conflicts occurring during collaboration that can be attributed to the different roles of 3PL and 4PL companies. Methodology – To answer the purpose a single case study was conducted which involved a focal firm and its collaboration with two different logistics companies (a 3PL and a 4PL) within the same economical climate. Due to the uniqeness of the case, a multiple methods qualitative study was performed and to strengthen the validity of the data collected both documantary analysis as well as semi-structured interviews were conducted. Respondents were handpicked based on knowledge of both collaboration setups, to ensure quality of the data collected. Gathered data were sumarized and categorized using Mamad and Chahdi (2013) conflict factors, and later analyzed to accurately detect key points to generate a result and answer the research questions. Result – To summarize the result, findings of what we discovered through our data analysis generated similarites and differences in conflicts occurred within both collaboration setups. These conflicts are linked to Mamad and Chahdi (2013) conflicts factors regarding collaboration among actors, in order to clarify why and which conflict area these conflicts occurred in. Analysis – From the conflicts identified in the result, further analysis were conducted. Where, previous literature regarding logistics companies (3pl and 4PL) were applied in order to enable attribution of conflicts to company types. Conclusion – Through the analysis, many conflicts that occured are based on factors such as operational structure, problem solving and company policies which are not affected by the company type. However, three conflicts and problem areas can be connected to be generally more common either with 3PL companies or 4PL companies. The first lies within the commitment area where 3PL companies can generally be seen as less committed. The second area is communication were important information were more often late due to passing through more actors, causing more conflicts when collaborating with a 4PL. The last problem area were within formalization where findings suggests that there are conflicts caused by 4PLs using several carriers which causes problems such as varying regulations and truck dimensions from carriers.

A study presenting the differences in corporate culture between South African and Swedish airfreight industries with focus on the excess baggage sectors of the industry. This industry is very competitive and very international as goods are being exported and imported in vast amounts around the world.

Using a web questionnaire and personal interviews, this gave me a better understanding of the present corporate culture and to highlight the differences between the countries in question. Once these differences are laid down the study shows the possibility of mutual interaction between the industry and the countries. It provides the major differences between the countries and brings forth a hypothesis for the report. The study shows that hierarchy levels play a huge role in the South African company; the relatively high uncertainty level of South Africans is a result of the high power distances between management and employees. A South African employee would try to find a solution to any problem while a Swede would discontinue when the first attempt fails. Furthermore my study provides a general idea of each of the countries, but what is evident is that the airfreight industry follows a certain corporate culture of its own and finally due to the countries diversity, South Africa seems to have an advantage when working with different cultures.

This study considers the impact of e-commerce technologies/software implementation on logistics capabilities and firm’s performance, particularly in the Malaysian third party logistics sector. As well as studying the impact of e-commerce, it is also interested in gaining knowledge on the current state of ICT and e-commerce adoption in this sector, and third party logistics companies’ perceived importance of the logistics changes in their industry resulting from the e-commerce revolution. The main tenet of this thesis is that e-commerce technologies implementation and its (higher) level of use strengthens logistics capabilities and stronger logistics capabilities are positively linked to a firm’s performance. The impact of e-commerce technologies implementation on the performance of the third party logistics companies is assumed in this study to be indirect, and, logistics capabilities is assumed to take on a mediating role. Data was collected using both survey and interview methods and then analysed using two main types of analyses: univariate (descriptive) and inferential (bivariate and multivariate). In general, connectivity is good among 3PLs as almost all the companies surveyed are connected to the Internet with various types of broadband access. The use of internal computer networks is also widely deployed with moderate to strong information systems infrastructure capability. Substantial ICT investments have been made as indicated from interviews with the 3PLs. The Intranet has been widely deployed as a tool to integrate internal business processes. However, the survey results suggest that logistics service providers in Malaysia are mostly late adopters with respect to the usage of web-based software systems, such as equipment and vessel tracking and collaborative logistics management systems, which have been around in the market for quite some time now. Relative adoption of online marketing and sales activities are low with the Internet mostly used for information and communication purposes, and not in or less so in marketing and sales processes. CRM is not widely deployed in the companies surveyed. The biggest driver for the uptake of e-commerce among the 3PL companies surveyed and interviewed is to speed up business processes while the biggest barrier was that data communication was too slow. The study of e-commerce impact on logistics capabilities and the performance of a firm shows that there is a positive effect of e-commerce software systems on both. More importantly, logistics capabilities have been shown in this study to function as a mediating variable providing support to the hypothesis that e-commerce software systems has an indirect effect on firm’s performance. Empirical results also suggest that certain performance can be enhanced through strengthening of specific logistics capabilities. For example, strengthening information flow management capabilities would strengthen or enhance the company’s performance in the areas of order cycle time variability, processing accuracy, perfect order fulfilment, planning accuracy, availability of information, and systems malfunction recovery. Results from this study show that the 3PL companies did not consider the logistics changes as significant, except for those that concern information flow to the customers. In fact, most of the logistics changes proposed as important and significant in the literature (these were included in the questionnaire) were not even considered as relevant to the third party logistics industry in Malaysia.

A logística reversa tem apresentado uma crescente importância para as empresas na atualidade. Os centros de distribuição devem estar estruturados para gerenciar esse processo, a fim de obter vantagens de natureza econômica, mercadológica e ambiental. Nesse estudo, procurou-se observar de que modo o fluxo reverso dos bens de pós-venda tem sido percebido e efetivado no âmbito de centros de distribuição de lojas de departamento. Desenvolve-se uma revisão bibliográfica, abordando diversos aspectos relacionados ao tema, para definir uma visão consistente e atualizada do tema. Primeiramente, são discutidas as características dos centros de distribuição, especificamente sua importância no sistema logístico, definições, funções básicas, layouts, vantagens na sua adoção, alternativas de armazenagem e um panorama de sua utilização nos diferentes segmentos de mercado. Logo após, são analisados os componentes da logística reversa, como a evolução dos conceitos, razões para sua crescente importância, fluxos dos bens de pós-venda e pós-consumo, motivos e destinos do retorno, a rede de distribuição reversa, os elementos chave dos bens de pós-venda, as dificuldades do sistema, exemplos da logística reversa nos centros de distribuição e a caracterização da logística reversa nos EUA baseada em uma pesquisa realizada em 1999. E, a partir do estudo de casos, envolvendo três empresas, são desenvolvidas considerações sobre o ambiente competitivo, importância e efetivação dos fluxos reversos existentes em cada empresa, procurando capturar o posicionamento das mesmas em relação à logística reversa.
Nowadays, the reverse logistics is presenting an increasing importance in the business activities. The distribution centers must be so structured as to manage the reverse flows to obtain advantages of economic, marketing and environmental nature. The objective of this study is to evaluate how the reverse flow is been perceived and used by managers of department store companies. Initially, a literature search was developed in order to define a consistent and updated review of the distribution centers - their importance in the logistics processes, including definitions, basic functions, layouts, advantages of implementation, warehousing alternatives and an overview of its utilization in different market segments. In addition, important aspects of the reverse logistics are reviewed such as evolution, determinants, post-sale and post- consumption flows of goods, final destination, key elements of the reverse logistics, difficulties of the system, examples of reverse flows in the distribution centers and the characterization of reverse logistics in the USA based on a 1999 research. Finally, based on a field work involving three department store companies, some patterns related to the competitive environment, to management priorities, to the importance of the reverse flows in each company and to the manager`s perspective as well have been identified.

Conventional supply chain integration concepts focus primarily on the internal and external integration of individual supply chains (can be viewed as intra-supply chain integration). Due to the highly integrated nature of petrochemical value chains, related supply chains should also be integrated by taking account of enterprise/industry-wide synergies and interdependencies (can be viewed as inter-supply chain integration). Inter-supply chain integration can typically develop along three dimensions: - Upstream feed clusters (upstream in the chemical value chain) - Downstream product clusters (downstream in the chemical value chain) - Macro logistics network clusters (within and across related logistics networks for liquid bulk, dry bulk, packaged goods and gases) This dissertation presents a generic framework of applicable intra- and inter-supply chain planning processes that supports related long- (strategic), medium- (tactical) and short-term (operational) supply chain decisions for large-scale petrochemical companies. This type of companies has to manage relative complex supply chains. Highly complex supply chains (due to an extensive product portfolio, supplier base, customer base, manufacturing processes, transportation, and management processes and systems) require far more advanced planning processes than simple supply chains. Advanced supply chain planning processes cover an extended supply chain scope, deal with longer time horizons, and utilize more sophisticated analytical techniques and decision support systems. An extensive literature study, supplemented by empirical research in the South African petrochemical industry, provided the foundation for the advanced supply chain planning framework concluded in this dissertation. Semi-structured interviews and a questionnaire presented to an informed audience constitute the empirical research conducted. The related best practices, concepts, approaches followed, and level of advancement in three supply chain planning dimensions were derived. To guide petrochemical companies along the planning advancement journey, the roadmap developed can be utilized for the application and implementation of the advanced supply chain planning framework. This roadmap articulates the advancement stages, dimensions, characteristics, and triggers to advance. Typical characteristics associated with the advancement stages and dimensions provide the means for a company to assess their level of progression. The essential mechanisms that can enable interventions are also articulated.

Purpose of the thesis This study aims to propose an AI maturity model in order to be able to evaluate to whatextent large-scale manufacturing companies utilize AI in their inbound logistical operationsand also to reveal the challenges related to the implementation of AI.  Methodology This study employs a qualitative research method with the use of a survey conducted on 10companies within 5 industries. Additionally, semi-structured interviews were employed attwo out of these 10 companies. Theoretical framework The theoretical framework provides a deeper theoretical understanding of inbound logisticsoperations, AI implementations and their suggested operationalization in inbound logisticsoperations at large-scale manufacturers. Further, it also provides theory of the challengesassociated with implementing AI in inbound logistics operations. Empirical data The empirical section illustrates the data that were collected through survey and interviewstudy. First, data is presented based on the respondents' various industries that are grouped.Within each grouped industry, data is structured according to the various RQ’s and proposedframeworks, meaning that data will be related to the different levels of AI implementation,maturity levels as well as challenges. Analysis and discussion In this section, the industries are analysed and discussed with the help of the theoreticalframework and collected empirical data. This was first established with an individual analysisof industries where one research question is covered at a time. After this is done, across-analysis is carried out on the involved industries in relation to the research questions. Conclusion This chapter gives a concluding discussion and presents theoretical and practicalcontributions. The main results of the three research questions are highlighted. Finally, further research opportunities and limitations are discussed.

Two of the most important internal functions within a company, which have gained increased importance, are purchasing and logistics. Purchasing and logistics both contribute to the competitiveness of an organisation by conducting different value adding activities separately. There is also a huge potential for increased benefits if a high degree of integration exists between the two functions. Although there is evidence that purchasing and logistics have been working closely together historically, the operational focus of logistics and the commercial focus of purchasing have created a tension between the two functions. It has been shown that some

purchasing managers mostly have been committed to reducing the price. The logistics function has as a cause of this sometimes been forced to deal with late deliveries and inferior quality from

suppliers. To manage the interface activities between the functions is crucial in order to able to achieve integration. Purchasing and logistics functions are of major importance within wholesaling companies because they are considered as core internal functions. This study has been conducted at the wholesaling companies The Body Shop, Hälsokostcentralen (HKC), Mekonomen, Elgiganten and ICA.

Research questions:

Problem: In today’s competitive business world, companies are faced with challenges due to increasing competition, changes in customer demands, new technologies, and globalization. Due to these changes, competition does not take place between single companies anymore but rather whole SCs. To cope with such challenges, more and more companies focus on SCI. Business managers and academics emphasize the potential of integration. However, existing literature shows a gap concerning the integration of LSPs. In this thesis, LSPs are divided into three different types; carriers, intermediaries, and 3PL providers. Due to differences in their business focus and the deriving logics, their way of integrating with customers will likely differ. Hence, based on these differences and the gap in literature concerning the integration of LSPs, this thesis focuses on an investigation of two carriers, two intermediaries, and two 3PL providers. Purpose: The purpose of this Master thesis is to explore how and why LSPs integrate with their main customers. Therefore, motivators and obstacles, advantages and disadvantages, as well as the extent of integration and possible integration approaches are investigated. Method: This qualitative study makes use of a case study strategy which includes six companies. Data is gathered from semi-structured interviews and documentary secondary data. The findings are analyzed using a two-stage process. First, a comparison of the findings for each of the three types of LSP is conducted. Second, a cross-analysis among carriers, intermediaries, and 3PL providers is performed in order to identify similarities and differences. Conclusions: The findings of this thesis reveal integration of technologies and systems, flows, and relationship evaluation as approaches for LSPs. Further, LSPs integrate externally, upstream and downstream in terms of intermediaries and 3PL providers and downstream in regards to carriers, and on different levels ranging from relatively shallow in case of carriers to deep in terms of 3PL providers. Moreover, LSPs are motivated by factors such as competition, differentiation, and business safety, whereas aspects such as resource investments and customer power differences present potential obstacles. Furthermore, LSPs benefit from integration, e.g. due to improved problem-solving ability, expansion of business, and better responsiveness to market changes. In contrast, aspects such as increased customer expectations, the risk of sunk costs, and dependence present potential disadvantages for LSPs.

Innovation power is essential for long-term survival in the competitive environment of a corporate and can often only be increased through cooperation. It is therefore crucial for management and researchers to know the most important factors influencing the increase of this power and the effects of the form of cooperation on it. Especially in the field of digitization, many corporates still lack experience, especially in how to cooperate with start-up companies to achieve effective digital innovations. This thesis identifies digital-driven logistics innovation used by corporates and their most important impact factors as well as forms of cooperation between the start-ups who invented those and corporates who are using them for improvement of their own innovation power. Therefore, qualitative interviews were conducted at management level, with large established manufacturing companies and logistics service providers (LSPs) from Germany, Austria, the Netherlands, Great Britain, and Switzerland. The empirical findings show that the influencing variables application area and purpose, logistics activity, size, industry, digital experience, and cooperation experience are the most important factors. They also reveal that within the context of digital-driven logistics innovation, the cooperation between start-ups and the applied form of cooperation could influence the innovation output. The type of innovation is influencing the innovation power and slightly influences the type of cooperation. The cooperation form influences the innovation output as well. However, different results may be obtained for individual cases and companies, especially in the comparison between manufacturing companies and LSPs. Managers of established corporate companies can use these results to identify the best possible form of cooperation with start-ups for future decisions on cooperation to achieve digital-driven logistics innovation.

BackgroundUtilizing the Software as a Service (SaaS) business model is a distinct trend for marketing softwarevia the Internet. It allows software suppliers to expand their market globally and to extend theiroffering to customers by simplifying their software procurements and ownerships. The trend has beenongoing for some time concerning horizontal software niches and now intensifies for vertical niches.Logistics is such an examples of a vertical software niche. ObjectivesThis thesis aims to investigate the utilized marketing strategies for companies using a Software as aService business model within the logistics niche. The purpose of this thesis is to deepen theknowledge about how to market a vertical Software as a Service solution within the logistics domain. MethodologyAn explorative research method in the form of a multiple case study is used. Three companies aresampled using a theoretical sampling approach. SaaS ideally requires less people contact and themarketing materials are integrated in the published SaaS on the respective companies’ web pages.Data publicly available on the Internet is collected and used to investigate the utilized marketingstrategies. FindingsThe identified marketing strategies are categorized according to an eight-element model utilized inearlier studies. The eight elements are product, price, place, promotion, people, process, productivity& quality, and physical environment. The categorization does help to guide during data collections anddata analysis. The last element physical environment is confirmed to be not relevant since the requiredphysical material are chosen and decided by customers themselves. ConclusionsThe marketing strategies within this niche is at large consistent with earlier findings. One of the newlyfindings is that the sample companies choose one of SaaS strong points that is most suitable to theiroffering solution and emphasize it in their marketing strategies. Here are easiness, scalability andflexibility. Some main deviations however exist. The sample companies do not provide easilyavailable trial accounts. They instead offer manned online demonstrations. The market is also notfound to be as global as the business model enables. The reason of being that is the fact that theproducts/services are too dependent on the integrations to local-market software solutions. Recommendations for future researchA similar study with a larger sample may strengthen the findings. Performing interviews in addition toonline data collection may extend more information about post customer contact marketing strategiesas well as reasons behind the selected strategies.

Darbe nagrinėjami tarptautinių bendrovių sandėlių išdėstymą lemiantys veiksniai, bendrovėms reikalingo sandėlių skaičiaus ir dydžio nustatymas, išanalizuotos sandėlių panaudojimo efektyvumo, logistinio aptarnavimo bei logistikos informacinių sistemų panaudojimo įtakos sandėliavimo veiklai problemos. Darbe buvo atliktas tyrimas ir nustatyta, jog pagrindiniai tarptautinių bendrovių sandėlių išdėstymą lemiantys veiksniai yra darbo jėgos kiekis ir kokybė, darbo jėgos sąnaudos, pardavimo vietos bei vartotojo artumas, magistraliniai keliai, valstybės geopolitinė padėtis bei žemės kaina. Kiekvienas veiksnys atskiru atveju gali turėti daugiau ar mažiau įtakos, tad kiekvienu konkrečiu atveju juos reikia analizuoti ir pasirinkti tinkamiausią vietą sandėliui. Išnagrinėjus teorinius ir praktinius sandėlių išdėstymo aspektus, pateikiamos baigiamojo darbo išvados ir pasiūlymai.
Purpose of the work is to analyze the warehouse positioning politics of international companies, to establish the main factors which determine a decision of international companies to locate its warehouses in particular locations. There are investigated the main factors of warehouse locating, necessary number and size requirements, efficiency of warehouse utilization, logistical service and usage of logistics information systems in this paper. There are a few the most important factors such as supply and charge of the labour-force, nearness to manufacturer and purchaser, arterial roads, regional supply and demand of the warehouse, cost of the territory, legislation of each country, geopolitical location of country and some others. The importance of each factor may vary according to specific case. After analyzing theorethical and practical aspects of warehouse locating politics, the conclusion and suggestions are presented.

In the modern world, logistic as one of the effective tools for planning the organization and management of material and related flows is aimed at maximizing profits by all participants in the processes of transportation and distribution by optimizing logistics costs in a certain space and time. Transport as a branch of infrastructure must develop faster to promote the rapid economic and social development of the country and its participation in the international division of labor. Ukraine’s accession to international transport organizations and structures, ratification of a number of international agreements, conventions and other instruments, organization of transport systems and transportation were the first steps that began the integration of the Ukrainian transport complex into the European transport system . In Ukraine, there are 33 airports and 20 state seaports, commercial ports, 8 river, 6 railway, more than 90 aviation and 150 shipping companies of various forms of ownership, more than 75 thousand businesses, on the balance of which is road transport.
У сучасному світі логістика як один з ефективних інструментів планування організації і управління матеріальними і супутніми потоками спрямована на максимізацію прибутку всіх учасників процесів транспортування та розподілу шляхом оптимізації логістичних витрат в певному просторі і часі. Транспорт як галузь інфраструктури має розвиватися швидше, щоб сприяти швидкому економічному і соціальному розвитку країни і її участі в міжнародному поділі праці. Вступ України в міжнародні транспортні організації і структури, ратифікація ряду міжнародних угод, конвенцій та інших документів, організація транспортних систем і перевезень стали першими кроками, з яких почалася інтеграція українського транспортного комплексу в європейську транспортну систему. В Україні функціонують 33 аеропорти і 20 державних морських портів, торговельних портів, 8 річкових, 6 залізничних, більше 90 авіаційних і 150 судноплавних компаній різних форм власності та понад 75 тисяч підприємств, на балансі яких перебуває автомобільний транспорт.

Genom teorier inom logistik och grön logistik skapas en förståelse om hur det kan bedrivas och anpassas, samt vilka motiv som ligger till grund för arbetssätten.Empirisk insamling:Empirin har samlats in genom en ansikte mot ansikte intervju samt genom 33 stycken telefonintervjuer. Slutsats: Studien visar att majoriteten av Sveriges största arbetsgivare inte prioriterar miljöaspekten över pris, ledtid och leveransservice vid val av transportleverantör. Trots detta ger företagen i sin marknadsföring intryck av att de ser miljön som viktig och arbetar för att bidra till en hållbar utveckling. Sammanfattning Problemformulering och bakgrund: Textilföretag är i behov av en effektiv logistik. En sådan finns att tillgå externt hos tredjepartslogistiker. Det finns begränsad forskning som påvisar riskerna som outsourcing av logistikfunktionen innebär. Därför vill vi i denna studie jämföra risker med fördelar applicerat på den västsvenska textilmarknaden. Företagens utlåtande kring deras outsourcing av logistikfunktionen värderas och lyfts. Syfte: Syfte för den här studien är att undersöka hur användandet av tredjepartslogistik ser ut inom västsvenska textilföretag. Vi vill skapa förståelse kring vilka risker och fördelar som outsourcing av logistikfunktionen innebär. Fortsatt vill vi även undersöka hur situationen ser ut för textilföretag belägna i Västsverige, och vilka faktorer som spelar in i deras outsourcing av logistikfunktionen. Metod: Vi inledde vår kvalitativa forskning med att genomföra en litteraturöversikt, som vi därefter använde för att skapa en intervjuguide. Under intervjuerna följde vi guiden, men lät även respondenterna tala mer fritt vid behov. En sådan intervjumetod kallas för semi-strukturerade intervjuer. För att nå en slutsats ställde vi referensramen mot empirin. På så sätt kunde vi besvara våra forskningsfrågor. Diskussion och slutsats: Efter analys av vår empiri kom vi fram till att de västsvenska textilföretagen i stora drag delar den bild som litteraturen ger gällande de risker och fördelar som finns vid outsourcing av logistikfunktionen. Däremot finns vissa olikheter. Företagen anser att risken för beroendeförhållande samt vikten av kommunikation inte har samma betydelse som litteraturen anser. Vi slår fast att företagen resonerar likt litteraturen när det gäller eftersträvan av diverse konkurrensfördelar. Förslag på vidare forskning: Studiens urval är för litet för att kunna dra några generella och övergripande slutsatser kring västsvenska företags outsourcing av logistikfunktionen, annat än i de tre specifika fall som vi studerat. Därmed efterfrågar vi att framtida studier utökar antalet deltagande företag. Här hoppas vi att vår studie kan ge en god grund att bygga vidare på.
Formulation of Problems and Background : Textile companies are in need of effective logistics. This is available externally from third party logistics suppliers. There is limited research which demonstrates the risks involved in outsourcing of the logistics function. Therefore, we want in this study to compare the risks with the benefits applied to WesternSwedish Textile Companies. Purpose : The purpose of this study is to investigate the usage of third party logistics in Western Swedish Textile Companies. We also want to create an understanding of the risks and benefits that outsourcing of the logistics function entails. Further, we also want to investigate what the situation looks like for textile companies located in Western Sweden, and what factors are involved in their outsourcing of logistics. Method: We began by conducting a literature review which we later used to create an interview guide. The interview guide was used when interviewing three Western Swedish Textile Companies. During the interviews we followed the guide, though we also allowed the respondents to speak more freely if they chose. This methodology is called semi-structured interview. In order to reach a conclusion and answer our research questions, we compared the frame of reference against our empirical data. Discussion and conclusion: When analyzing our empirical data, we found that the companies broadly share the same impression as the literature regarding the risks and benefits involved when outsourcing logistics. We conclude that the companies included in our study put forth arguments which resemble what the literature emphasizes. However, there are some differences. Companies do not consider the risk of dependence on a third party, neither the importance of communication, as serious as the literature implies they should. Various competitive advantages are gained through the outsourcing of logistic functions. These outweigh any associated risks according to the companies involved in our study. Proposals for further research: The selection of companies in this study is too small to draw any general and comprehensive conclusions about the outsourcing of logistics function made by Western Swedish Textile Companies. This means that future studies will have to increase the number of participating companies in order to put forth a conclusion that is generalizable.

Успішне управління логістичною діяльністю підприємства в цифрову епоху залежить від ефективного використання сучасних інформаційно-комунікаційних технологій, програмного забезпечення та інформаційних систем. Цифровий перехід передбачає одночасне управління наявним бізнесом і будівництво майбутнього. Але для здобуття успіху в майбутньому бажано враховувати вплив цифрового маркетингу. Реалізація цифрових технологій дозволяє швидко приймати управлінські рішення щодо організації логістичних процесів та транспортних операцій, оптимізувати матеріальні, інформаційні та фінансові процеси, покращити якість обслуговування споживачів, знизити логістичні витрати і тим самим підвищувати конкурентоспроможність корпорацій.

In recent years, according to Osinergmin, the production of electrical energy has increased up to 2.4%. This sector represents 1.5% of GDP and encompasses more than 6.6 million users, so its consumption continues at a growth rate for the country's development. This growth depends on the response time that companies today provide users; many of them operate their logistics management manually and traditionally, which leads to delays in service and dissatisfaction of both the external and internal clients. Likewise, companies in the sector, by working traditionally, do not use technology as a point of competitiveness within the market, since 60% of companies use software for their operations. To do this, an agile logistics management model is proposed that will consist of reducing purchase order attention time by 50% and improving internal processes and procedures under the Lean Service methodology. It will start by identifying the main problem and the expected objectives, then the Lean Service, Business Process Management and Agile Logistics tools will be executed, which will help to reestablish new processes and procedures.

Novas tecnologias vêm sendo constantemente desenvolvidos pelo mundo, alterando os hábitos de consumo da população. Neste novo cenário, surgem os Equipamentos Eletroeletrônicos (EEE), cada vez mais demandados e ao mesmo tempo descartados, que se não destinados corretamente ao fim de seu uso, podem acarretar em problemas a saúde humana e ao meio ambiente. Dessa forma, entender como está o atual comportamento do consumidor em relação aos Resíduos de Equipamentos Eletroeletrônicos (REEE) é primordial para diagnosticar as dificuldades de descarte dos equipamentos após o fim da vida útil e ao mesmo tempo propor ações corretivas. Assim, o presente trabalho buscou avaliar o comportamento do consumidor institucional, especialmente de empresas privadas, no município de Gravataí/RS frente a problemática atual dos Resíduos de Equipamentos Eletroeletrônicos. A pesquisa foi desenvolvida por meio de um formulário eletrônico, com questões previamente elaboradas, sendo enviado para o endereço eletrônico das empresas que tinham cadastro ativo junto ao órgão gestor municipal. O local de estudo selecionado foi motivado por ser um importante polo industrial do Rio Grande de Sul, com um número considerável de empresas, atuando em diferentes ramos de atividades. Foram obtidos um total de 48 respostas, sendo a grande maioria de empresas pequeno porte (40) e do ramo de atuação em prestação de serviços (67%). Em relação a gestão dos resíduos eletroeletrônicos, a maioria das empresas respondentes (77%) afirmaram conhecer os riscos associados a este tipo de resíduo e 32 empresas entre as 48 respondentes assinalaram que geram REEE em suas dependências, sendo as lâmpadas fluorescente/Led o tipo de resíduo mais gerado. Além disso, foi questionado quais as principais atitudes de descarte dos EEE no final de sua vida útil, obtendo como principal resposta armazenamento (25 %). Este questionamento foi discriminado para alguns tipos de resíduos, como celulares e tablets, e as respostas mostraram que a maioria deixa somente armazenado (31%), seguido por descarte em pontos de coleta (19%) e revenda (13%). Em relação as principais dificuldades de destinação final, a falta de pontos de coleta (44 %) e a existência de pouca informação a respeito deste tipo de resíduo (34%), foram apontadas como os principais problemas. Também, a maioria das empresas afirmou conhecer o que é o sistema de logística reversa (22 de 32). Por fim, fez-se algumas considerações sobre diferentes propostas para minimizar a questão do descarte dos REEE institucionais, apresentando o sistema depósitoreembolso como instrumento econômico e ambiental, em que os consumidores têm um incentivo para devolver produtos usados e receber reembolso financeiro. Além deste sistema, as próprias empresas que atuam no ramo de reciclagem de resíduos eletrônicos obtendo ganhos econômicos podem colaborar com a destinação final dos REEE gerados nas empresas do município.
New technologies are being constantly developed around the world, changing the consumption habits of the population. In this new scenario, the Electro-Electronic Equipments (EEE) arise, increasingly demanded and at the same rate, discarded, and if not correctly disposed after its use, they can lead to environmental and human health problems. Therefore, understanding the current behavior of consumers regarding to Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) is essential to diagnose the difficulties of disposing the equipments after their lifespan and, at the same time, to propose corrective actions. Thus, the present work aimed to evaluate the behavior of the institutional consumer, especially private companies, in the city of Gravataí / RS in relation to the current problem of Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment. The research was developed through an electronic form, with previously elaborated questions, sent to the electronic address of the companies that had active registration in the municipal managing agency. The selected study site was motivated because it is an important industrial center of Rio Grande do Sul, with a significant number of companies, operating in different branches of activities. A total of 48 responses was obtained, being the large majority from small companies (40%) and service providers (67%). Regarding to electronic waste management, most respondents (77%) reported knowing the risks associated with this type of waste, and 32 companies among the 48 respondents indicated that they generate WEEE in their dependencies, being fluorescent / Led lamps the most generated type of waste. In addition, the main disposal alternatives of EEE after their lifespan were questioned, obtaining storage as the main answer (25%). This survey was broken for some types of residues, such as cell phones and tablets, and the answers showed that most only store it (31%), followed by collection at collection points (19%) and resale (13%). Regarding the main difficulties of final destination, the lack of collection points (44%) and the lack of information about this type of waste (34%) were identified as the main problems. Also, most companies reported knowing what the reverse logistics system is (22 of 32). Lastly, some considerations about different proposals to minimize the issue of institutional WEEE disposal were made, presenting the deposit-refund system as an economic and environmental instrument, in which consumers have an incentive to return used products and receive financial reimbursement. In addition to this system, companies that operate in the electronic waste recycling sector earning economic gains can collaborate with the final destination of the WEEE generated in the companies of the city.

Resumen
The transportation of containerized shipments will continue to be a topic of interest in the world because it is the primary method for shipping cargo globally. The primary objective of this study is to analyze the impact of the Panama Canal Expansion (PCE) on the trade flows of containerized shipments between the United States and its trade partners for US exports and imports. The results show that the Panama Canal Expansion would affect the trade flows of US imports and exports significantly. The major findings are as follows: (1) the PCE affects not only US domestic trade flows, but also international trade flows since inland transportation and ocean transportation are interactive, (2) delay cost and toll rate at the Panama Canal do not have a significant impact on trade volume and flows of US containerized shipments after the Panama Canal Expansion mainly because delay cost and toll rate at the canal account for a small portion of the total transportation costs after the PCE, (3) West Coast ports would experience negative effects and East Coast ports would experience positive effects from the PCE, while Gulf ports would experience no effects from the PCE, and (4) an optimal toll rate is inconclusive in this study because changes in toll rate at the canal account for a small portion of the total transportation costs and the PNC competes with shipments to/from Asia shipping to the US West.

La empresa en estudio dedicada a la distribución de productos de limpieza ha presentado elevados costos operativos provenientes de una gestión desorganizada en los procesos de compras e inventarios. Este es un problema que acontece a muchas empresas del sector retail ya que, no poseen herramientas o controles que le permitan evaluar su desarrollo en tales procesos. Para resolver este problema, se propone una gestión de compras y abastecimiento basado en herramientas que implican el desarrollo de pronosticación de demanda con el fin de poder evaluar la tendencia y fluctuación de la demanda, para que la empresa esté preparada ante cualquier cambio. Por otra parte, una clasificación ABC de productos para poder tener en cuenta aquellos productos que tienen una mayor rotación. Además, el desarrollo de lotes económicos, stocks de seguridad y puntos de reposición para el seguimiento de los inventarios existentes en el almacén. Por último, un control adecuado de la gestión mediante procedimientos, políticas y formatos que permitirán una estandarización y un flujo correcto de dichos procesos. Todo ello, con el fin de poder contribuir a la reducción de los costos operativos y aumentar la utilidad de la de la empresa.
The Company under study dedicated to the distribution of cleaning products has presented high operating costs resulting from a disorganized management in the processes of purchases and supply. This is a problem that happens to many companies in the retail sector because, it does not have tools or controls that allow it to evaluate its development in such processes. To solve this problem, a management of purchases and inventories is proposed based on tools that involve the development of demand forecasting in order to be able to evaluate the trend and fluctuation of the demand, so that the company is prepared for any change. On the other hand, an ABC classification of products to be able to consider those products that have a higher turnover. In addition, the development of economic lots, safety stocks and replenishment points to track inventories in the warehouse. Finally, an adequate control of the management by means of procedures, policies and formats that will allow a standardization and a correct flow of said processes. All this, to contribute to the reduction of operating costs and increase the utility of the company.

The fast development of the Chinese economy has brought tremendous impact on the growth of logistics industry in the country. China has become the hottest market for both Chinese and foreign third-party logistics companies (3PL providers), and more and more foreign and domestic 3PL providers are being involved in the Chinese logistics industry. To understand the current situation Chinese third-party logistics companies are facing and the competitive strategies they are pursuing, an exploratory investigation was conducted in the study. A multiple case-study approach was adopted as the main strategy and guidance for the study. Under the principle of multiple case studies, multiple instruments (questionnaire, telephone interviews and archive searching) were used in the data collection among three selected case study companies. Also, within-case analysis and cross-case analysis were chosen as the overall framework of data analysis, and content analysis was selected as the main method for qualitative data analysis. Through investigating a variety of aspects of the three case study 3PL companies, the study has identified that all the case study companies have established country-wide logistics networks, have provided customers a range of logistics services, and have adopted different information technology systems in their operations. All the case study companies have achieved constant increase in their sales in recent years. Generally, the competition in the Chinese 3PL industry is fierce, and sometimes chaotic, unfair, and even illegal. Foreign 3PL providers have been considered as major competitor by Chinese 3PL providers. All the case study companies have developed and pursued a number of competitive strategies to gain competitive advantages in both cost and service. The main competitive strategies addressed include distribution network developing strategy, information technological strategy, and long-term partnership strategy.

Jag upplever det som att dagens samhälle är i ett konstant läge av förändring, vilket borde medföra att de företag som finns ute i samhälle måste befinna sig i ett konstant läge av anpassning. Utifrån det undrar jag hur företagen kan klara av att hantera de mänskliga resurserna samtidigt som de måste klara av den föränderliga omgivningen. Jag har därför valt att undersöka personalhanteringen på tre företag inom samma bransch för att fastställa ifall personalhanteringen utvecklas åt liknande håll. Eller om företagen utvecklas åt helt olika håll utan några likheter. De företag som jag undersöker lyckas uppenbarligen med konststycket att anpassa sig samtidigt som de hanterar sin personal och det jag är intresserad av är hur lyckas de med en sådan balansering.Mitt syfte är således inte att hitta ett gyllene snitt för personalhantering utan om möjligt finna liknelser mellan hur de företag jag kommer i kontakt med hanterar personal. Den struktur som används i uppsatsen är Hernadi’s hermeneutiska triad då den har möjligheten att hantera både delen och helheten i en sann abduktiv anda.För att ha möjligheten att undersöka utvecklingen utgår jag från dels bakgrunden till personalhanteringskonceptet och dels en teoretisk redogörelse för hur personalhantering kan se ut och vad det kan leda till. Uppsatsen utgår från de intervjuer som jag hållt med personalcheferna från de tre företagen och jag använder sedan ett antal teorier för att sätta den informationen i kontext. Jag noterar att företagen drar sig mot en mer formaliserad struktur och jag tolkar det som en reaktion för att hantera den psykiska press som drabbar de anställda utifrån de tekniska förändring som branschen medför samt den tillväxt som finns hos företagen. Formaliseringen fungerar i sin tur som en motpol till frihet, då en högre nivå av formalisering lämnar mindre spelområde för de anställda. Vilket i sin tur leder till minskad kreativitet. Det som är viktigt är för företagen att lyckas balansera mellan de olika ytterligheterna för att få alla delar att fungera.

Sveriges riksdag har satt klimatmål om noll nettoutsläpp till år 2045. Bygg- och fastighetssektorn har de senaste åren stått för cirka en femtedel och transportsektorn står för en tredjedel av det totala utsläppet i Sverige. Klimatdeklarationer ska initieras för att nå riksdagens klimatmål. Klimatdeklaration av byggnader är indelat i produktskedet och byggproduktionsskedet. En del av byggproduktionsskedet är transport av resurser till byggarbetsplats. Det är idag möjligt att använda sig av generiska eller specifika värden för klimatberäkning av transport.  Problemet är att det är svårt och omfattande att få fram exakt data för beräkning av specifika transporter under ett byggprojekt. Syftet med examensarbetet är att undersöka hur småhusföretag med prefabricerade element kan utforma beräkningar för transport i en klimatdeklaration. I studien har en intervjudel och en beräkningsdel genomförts för att få förståelse över utmaningar med beräkning av transporter. Intervjuerna genomfördes på nio respondenter med olika befattningar inom transport och miljö. En klimatberäkning genomfördes på en husmodell från VårgårdaHus som arbetar med prefabricerade väggelement. Beräkningen bestod av tre fall. Ett fall med endast generiska värden i byggskedet. Två fall där beräkningen gjordes med specifika värden för transportsträckorna för två fiktiva arbetsplatser. Den insamlade informationen från de bägge delarna sammanställdes i slutet av arbetet.  Resultatet av beräkningen visar att klimatpåverkan vid användningen av generiska data för transport visade ett utsläpp 1296,7 kg CO2e. De specifika transportsträckorna resulterade i ett utsläpp av 693,0 respektive 495,9 kg CO2e under byggproduktionsskedet. Resultatet av intervjuerna visar att underlättning av klimatberäkningar för transport är möjlig vid förbättring av planering, insamling av data, samverkan mellan olika aktörer samt en högre kravställning från organisationen.
The Swedish Parliament have decided on a climate target of zero emissions by 2045. In recent years, the construction and real estate sector have accounted for about one-fifth of the total emissions and the transport sector accounts for a third of the total emissions in Sweden. Climate declarations must be initiated to achieve the climate goals set by the Swedish Parliament. The climate declaration is divided into the product phase and the construction-production phase. Part of the construction-production phase is the transport of resources to the construction site.  The problem encountered is the difficulties to obtain exact data for calculating specific transports during a construction project. The purpose of the thesis is to investigate how small house companies with prefabricated elements can design calculations for transport in a climate declaration. In this study, an interview part and a calculation part were carried out to gain an understanding of the challenges. The interviews were conducted on nine respondents with different positions within the transport and environment sector. A climate calculation was calculated on a house model from “VårgårdaHus” who works with prefabricated wall elements. The calculation consisted of three cases. The first case with only generic values during the construction phase. The calculations of the two other cases were conducted with specific values for the transport distances for two fictitious workplaces.  The calculations indicate that the climate impact regarding the use of generic data for transport showed an emission of 1296.7 kg CO2e. The specific transport distances resulted in an emission of 693.0 and 495.9 kg CO2e, respectively, during the construction production phase. The results of the interviews show that facilitating climate calculations for transport is possible by improving planning, data collection, collaboration between actors and higher requirements from the organization.
