Resumen
A statistical analysis has been conducted on a sample of 30 Slovenian companies, the main purpose of which was to determine the impact of the level of education of logistics employees and the logistics knowledge of employees from other departments on the logistics processes of companies. It has been determined that the acquired level of education has a significant impact on the level of logistics costs in larger companies. The results of the survey have also proved that the quality of logistical processes is higher in companies where employees from other departments possess a wide range of logistical knowledge. The results obtained represent an important finding for the logistic profession in Slovenia and for the wider region, since logistics is an area that continues to be dominated by employees with a lower level education.

Resumen
Nowadays, companies offer various logistics services to their customers. Diversity of these services is essential for business. The range of services that logistics companies cover depends on various factors; it can be solely transport, but can also be a complex service that includes organisation of raw materials delivery, warehousing, delivery of finished goods to customers and dealing with documents like invoices, waybills and others. The increasing popularity of logistics in services is noticeable. This is connected with global changes. This is a complex phenomenon that connects aspects and features of services and logistics. The three most important areas for logistics in services are: minimisation of waiting time, management of service potential and service delivery. The goal of this article is to reveal the difference between these two subjects and review the literature connected with them. The main conclusions are that logistics services can be seen as belonging to logistics in the services phenomenon. In every area of logistics in services, three phases can be distinguished: supply, production and sales. Germany has the leading position in Europe when it comes to the logistics services market. Dynamic changes in logistics have led to the development of a new classification of logistics enterprises. The European Commission is analysing changes in the sector in order to prepare new strategic objectives.

Resumen
Annotation. Introduction. The article examines the services of logistic outsourcing from the point of view of Ukrainian manufacturing companies, analyzes the results of the survey, compares them with global trends. It was determined that Ukrainian companies use logistic outsourcing less often than companies in other regions of the world. Also, the most often outsourced fields were identified. Purpose. Analysis of logistics outsourcing services from the viewpoint of Ukrainian manufacturing companies and comparison of survey results based on the survey with global trends. Results. It was found that from the list of enterprise groups classification (micro, small, medium, large) all categories use the services of freight forwarding companies. The following types of logistic processes are most often outsourced: transportation, lease and maintenance of equipment, warehousing, logistic chain optimization. It was found that among other countries in the study of third-party logistics, Ukraine occupies the lowest position in the usage of outsourcing services in logistics. The reasons for outsourcing logistic processes in logistics are significant: lack of own resources and capacity, cost reduction. The relationship between causes and logistic processes has shown that in order to reduce logistic costs in the enterprise it is necessary to outsource transportation. Conclusions. Statistical research has shown a small relationship between the areas of logistic outsourcing and the main causes of outsourcing of logistic activities. Therefore, it is not appropriate to say that some logistical measures should be outsourced and others should not. The mixed system, which combines the usage of own and third-party production facilities, is the most suitable for most Ukrainian manufacturing companies Keywords: logistics, outsourcing, third-party logistics, transport, warehousing, supply chain management, optimization, respondent, survey.

Resumen
The article describes logistics survey in Estonia carried out in 2007 as a part of the LogOnBaltic project. The level of logistics in Estonian manufacturing, trading and logistics companies is explored through logistics costs, performance indicators, outsourcing, ICT use and logistics self‐estimation of the companies responded. Responses from 186 Estonian companies were gathered through a web‐based survey (38% of manufacturing, 38% of trading and 24% of logistics sector). Logistics costs as the percentage of turnover make in average 13.8% in manufacturing and 13.3% in trading. Transportation and inventory carrying cost form around 70% of overall logistics costs. Considering the logistics indicators surveyed, Estonian companies show up with relatively low perfect order fulfillment rates, short customer order fulfillment cycles and effective management of cash flows. The most widely outsourced logistics function is international transportation followed by domestic transportation, freight forwarding and reverse logistics. By 2010, the outsourcing of IT systems in logistics followed by inventory management, warehousing and product customization is expected to increase more substantially. The awareness of logistics importance is still low among Estonian companies. Only 27–44% of those agree that logistics has a considerable impact on profitability, competitive advantage, top management or customer service level.

Resumen
The Reverse Logistics has been object of great interest by the whole community. In Portugal, Reverse Logistics is an unfamiliar word in the business world. Due to this fact, that will be interesting to analyze and characterize the Portuguese companies’ perspective based on three aspects: The Concept, the Returns and the Environment. For this, semi structured interviews were applied to ten Portuguese companies of different dimensions and industrial sectors. The results showed all the large companies are aware of Reverse Logistics, the product returns strategies are reuse, sale to the scrap or recycling industries and the environment strategies mostly used by small and medium-size enterprise’s (besides waste recycling) are their reuse in the packaging of loads, and by large companies is directed towards recycling, planning routes and the use of recycled materials and reusable packaging. It is understood that, a lot of work in Reverse Logistics is still needed in the context, concerning the companies’ awareness to know all their logistics chain (forward and reverse) and in spite of the small and medium-size enterprise’s lack of knowledge of the this area, they practice some returns and environmental strategies, but still in a very incipient way.

The capital and technology transfer into a certain region leads also to increased demands for logistic services. The transition to the logistic delivery organisation is very important under the conditions of accelerated technological development, in particular in the field of telecommunications and informatics, which enabled the advent of successful companies having a single employee. Owing to the mentioned technologies these companies get networked with similar companies, thus being able to solve all their needs by outsourcing the services or products of other networked companies. Higher speed and greater flexibility of operation of such companies has brought the following challenge: larger number of small companies has created a larger number of small orders that have to be delivered within the same unit of time. The logistics and distribution centres can represent a solution which maintains the speed and efficiency, and avoids costs of congestions and delays. Resumen
This paper aims at finding out what effort logistics-related companies based in the Slovak Republic demonstrate, concerning their social responsibility. Using a standardized questionnaire, addressing approximately 30 issues from the field of social responsibility, grouped in five categories, we approached over 100 members of the Association of Logistics and Freight Forwarding of the Slovak Republic, of which 29 provided answers. Despite the low number of respondents, it was still possible to formulate several findings. First, it was revealed that a part of the Slovak logistics industry cares about the issue of social responsibility although the level of such a commitment is uneven for the five analyzed dimensions. Second, the responding companies with employees, or a department, dealing specifically with corporate social responsibility, demonstrate more effort in the field. Third, the responding foreign-owned companies also demonstrate additional efforts towards social responsibility. These findings may become a starting point for further research on the topic and intensify the discussion on the still underdeveloped concept of logistics social responsibility, not only from a one-country perspective.

It is noted that the demand for qualified logistics services is growing, that, in turn, stimulates the development of the logistics market in Ukraine. It is determined that in 2018, according to the Logistics Performance Index, Ukraine ranks 66th among 160 countries in terms of the efficiency of the logistics system. The value of the national Logistics Performance Index tends to increase. It was 2.83 points in 2018, compared to 2.74 in 2016. The dynamics of freight traffic volumes in Ukraine in 2014-2018 is analyzed. A list of companies that providing logistics services in Ukraine has been formed. It was found that the main participants of the Ukrainian market that offer logistics services under the 3PL scheme are international companies, in particular, «KUEHNE & NAGEL», «Raben», «SCHENKER», «FM Logistic», «DHL», «Åkol logistics» and others with significant financial capabilities and long-standing relationships with transnational clients. Instead, most Ukrainian companies use 1PL and 2PL schemes when organizing logistics. A more advanced way of organizing logistics (3PL, 4PL) is used by a small number of Ukrainian enterprises, including «ZAMMLER», «UVK», «LOGISTIC-PLUS», «PAKLINE GROUP», «Denka Logistics», «Diad Logistic». The modern tendencies of development of the logistic services market are investigated.Among them: intensification of competition, falling of demand, reduction of transportation tariffs, falling profitability of carriers, shortage of middle and high class logistics complexes, insufficient speed of flow, insignificant level of integration of information and computing systems, low level of coordination of counterparties. Prospects for market development are identified. In particular: active development of operators offering logistics services under the 3PL and 4PL schemes, maintaining trends in mergers and acquisitions in the segments of the logistics services market. The main driving forces of the Ukrainian logistics market, which are able to increase its efficiency, are noted.

Resumen
Purpose The purpose of this paper is to examine the relationship between logistics park platforms, logistics location and operational performance. Relationship analysis helps managers respond to the changes that today’s logistics companies face, which include limited resources and facilities, market uncertainties and financial instabilities. Design/methodology/approach A structured questionnaire is developed based on the resource-based view. Qualitative data collected from 273 companies in China are used in a structural equation model to test the conceptual model. Findings In logistics parks, logistics park platforms and location positively influence companies’ resource integration, which is positively related to operational performance. While logistics park platforms can improve operational performance directly, logistics location cannot. Resource integration is thus a full mediator between logistics location and operational performance, while it is a partial mediator between logistics park platforms and operational performance. Originality/value This study fills a gap in the literature on logistics parks, particularly on the relationships among operational performance, resource integration, logistics park platforms and the location of logistics parks in China. The authors provide guidelines for logistics park managers to organize their resources and develop capabilities for improving the operational performance of companies in logistics parks.

Resumen
Purpose A way that companies have found to respond to the challenges of customer satisfaction (CS) is the development logistics services quality. In this sense, the purpose of this paper is to estimate the quality of logistical service as a mediator factor in the relationship between logistics capabilities (LC) and CS. For this, an exploratory survey of the descriptive type was carried out with 117 companies in the Brazilian market of lubricant oil. The collected data, modeled in structural equations, have shown evidence that the quality of logistics services totally mediates the relation between the LC and the satisfaction of clients. Design/methodology/approach In order to respond to the research problem and to meet the stated objective, a study was carried out in two phases. The first used an exploratory qualitative design, and involved recorded in-depth interviews with five clients and five managers of a lubricant oil producer located in the municipality of Umuarama and nearby areas in Paraná state, Brazil. The second used an exploratory survey of the descriptive type was carried out with 117 companies in the Brazilian market of lubricant oil. Findings The collected data, modeled in structural equations, have shown evidence that the quality of logistics services totally mediates the relation between the LC and the satisfaction of clients. Research limitations/implications It is suggested that new studies be conducted in order to increase the size of the sample, since the number of responses obtained (117 respondents), for the number of initial variables (34 measures). Practical implications In the pursuit of CS, the managers of lubricant oil producers should make major investments in LC, to enable the company to be active in the search for logistics solutions, integration and provision of reliable information to its customers. Social implications The studies should also be carried out in other market segments, in order to compare the results obtained in the lubricating oil segment of Brazil and corroborate knowledge about the influence of logistical capabilities on the relation between logistics service quality and CS. Originality/value The logistics services quality perceived by the customers is derived from the service capacity of the producer’s employees and the quality of information provided to the customers.

Resumen
This paper estimates the environmental, social and financial effects of logistics collaboration of the existing logistics companies in Seoul, Korea. The truck routing models for collaborative and non-collaborative deliveries are proposed to estimate the collaboration effects. Findings show that both major and minor companies can benefit from logistics collaboration by saving delivery costs and time through economies of scale. The results from the study further indicate that logistics collaboration can mitigate negative environmental impacts resulting from urban logistics by reducing the number of delivery trucks, and shortening delivery times and travel distances. Discussion of related challenges that must be addressed during the implementation of logistic collaboration is included as well.

Resumen
Purpose Companies with multiple roles, as both a profit generator and public service provider, have specific characteristics that differentiate them from single-role companies. However, literature suggests that no performance measurement framework exists to fully suit the characteristics of such companies. This study aims to develop a novel performance-measuring framework to manage logistics performance in multiple-role companies. Design/methodology/approach The framework is developed by combining a literature review and a case study approach as applied to a company with multiple roles. The case study is conducted to identify the characteristics of multiple-role companies, the factors that potentially affect such companies’ logistics performance and criteria for a new framework. The literature review identifies the concepts, performance attributes and indicators from existing frameworks with the potential for incorporation and synthesis in the new framework. Findings This study identified several characteristics, performance drivers and criteria for a logistics performance-measuring framework for multiple-role companies. Additionally, this study successfully developed a new logistics performance-measuring framework that consists of eight performance management stages and an aggregated index to measure overall logistics performance. Practical implications The proposed logistics performance-measuring methodology provides useful guidance for stakeholders of multiple-role companies to plan, organize, execute and evaluate logistics performance. Originality/value This research fills a theoretical gap by explaining the characteristics of logistics systems in multiple-role companies, as well as the factors that may affect such companies’ logistics performance. Further, the proposed framework contributes to academia by integrating performance attributes from several available frameworks to manage objective conflicts, dynamism issues and the inconsistent performance evaluations that exist in companies with multiple roles.

Resumen
The principle of third party logistics has grown into a very important and a well‐functioning logistics concept, mainly due to outsourcing trends in transport business. Providers of 3PL services complemented the effectiveness of logistics supply chain management extending the performance of hauliers and forwarders to what might be called outsourced logistics services providers. The main driver for this was large transportation companies that have striven to render their limited services to the whole transport chain. Firstly, this extended to what now is called forwarding services, i.e. responsibility and transport service was extended from only physical transportation to additional services. Then some transport and forwarding companies continued enlarging their responsibility so that it included an increased part of the transport chain up to a total responsibility for the entire transportation, from production to consumption. A nature of transportation services became more and more the nature of logistics. Companies started offering complete logistics solutions, instead of only isolated physical transportation services. This allowed a customer to concentrate on the core business instead of paying much attention to material flows.

Resumen
Competitiveness, from the point of view of the company, can be defined as the ability to provide products and services in the same, or a more efficient way, than competitors do. The competitiveness of companies is, of course influenced by many factors, until recently, it was mainly the quality and price of goods or services. For some time, often appear another important factor for consumer, when choosing goods, it is the ratio of the principles of sustainable development. Due to the assumptions of companies steady growth, and taking into account the limited amount of available resources, we should mention the assumptions of sustainable development. It promotes activities, that seek to meet the needs of our generation, not crossed the needs of future generations. At the microeconomic level, the equivalent of sustainable development is the idea of socially responsible business. Companies that decide to implement its business principles of sustainable development, they are forced to accept the principle of socialized business.

Resumen
The sustainable logistics business case (SLBC) provides underlying argumentation to convince decision makers to approve initiatives within sustainable logistics. Little knowledge exists on how companies conduct SLBCs or the challenges that need to be addressed. The purpose of this paper is to explore how companies conduct SLBCs, to increase the understanding of how perceived challenges can be addressed. Potential challenges were identified in literature on business cases models in general and sustainable logistics business cases. As third-party logistics providers (3PL) are big contributors to emissions and often are responsible for designing logistics setups, they were focused in the empirical study. How SLBC were conducted was investigated based on interviews with managers responsible for conducting SLBCs and the responses triangulated with information derived from actual business cases. Despite the careful selection of 3PLs well ahead within the area, few challenges were perceived by the studied companies. This does not imply that challenges do not exist but can rather be described as a consequence of their pragmatic and inward-looking perspective. Examples of how to address challenges are provided. The compiled list of SLBC challenges provides an overview that was missing in literature.

Resumen
The role of sustainability has made it a vital point to measure companies’ financial performances and sustainability practices along the overall supply chain. Logistics service providers (LSPs) are among the supply chain actors that need to consider sustainability practices to present a better sustainable service. Therefore, we studied LSPs in Egypt, as Egypt has set sustainability goals in the logistics sector to be achieved by 2030. This research proposes a new sustainable logistics service quality (SLSQ) scale through reviewing the literature on sustainable service quality (SSQ) and logistics service quality (LSQ). While additional semi-structured interviews were conducted with LSP companies in Egypt to formulate the SLSQ scale for this specific region, the Q-sorting technique was used to confirm SLSQ measurements. Hence, we present a scale to evaluate Egypt’s overall LSPs’ service quality. Our research thereby contributes to the theory by proposing a new framework that measures the SLSQ in LSP companies in emerging countries and to the practice by tying the framework to accompany Egyptian law. The results are discussed against previous literature and concluded by showing limitations and potential future research avenues.
