Resumen

Economic and financial relations between the European Union and « new » South Africa were characterized by a rapid process 0} normalization following the general elections of27 April 1994. Much more problematic has been the process of negotiating a long term relationship which should result in the implementation of a Eu-South Africa free trade area over a ten year transition period, and a qualified membership of South Africa in the Lome Convention. The analysis 0} current negotiations reveals how the parties' mutual concern for the World Trade Organisation principles is constantly tempered by their equally strong commitment to Systems of regional preferences. At a time when the future of the Lome Convention has become a matter of official discussion by the EU and the ACP states, the revival of regional integration programmes in Southern Africa confers to the negotiations between the EU and South Africa a special value. Indeed, they prefigure as a test on the capacity to integrate the realities of new trade regionalism in euro-African relations.

Resumen

Several window functions are currently applied to improve the performance of the discrete Fourier transform (DFT) harmonic detection method. These window functions exhibit poor accuracy in measuring the harmonic contents of a signal with high-order and weak-amplitude components when the power frequency fluctuates within a small range. In this paper, a minimum side-lobe optimization window function that is aimed at overcoming the abovementioned issue is proposed. Moreover, an improved DFT harmonic detection algorithm based on the six-term minimum side-lobe optimization window and four-spectrum-line interpolation method is proposed. In this context, the minimum side-lobe optimization window is obtained by optimizing the conventional cosine window function according to the optimization rules, and the characteristics of the new proposed window are provided to analyze its performance. Then, the proposed optimization window function is employed to improve the DFT harmonic detection algorithm based on the six-term minimum side-lobe optimization window and four-spectrum-line interpolation method. The proposed technique is used to detect harmonics of an electricity gird in which the six-term minimum side-lobe optimization window is utilized to eliminate the influence of spectrum leakage caused by nonsynchronous sampling of signal processing. The four-spectrum-line interpolation method is employed to eliminate or mitigate the fence effect caused by the inherent measurement error of the DFT method. Simulation experiments in two complex conditions and an experiment test are carried out to validate the improved performance of the proposed window. Results reveal that the six-term minimum side-lode optimization window has the smallest peak side lobe when compared with existing windows, which can effectively reduce the interaction influence of spectrum leakage, improve the measurement accuracy of the DFT harmonic detection method, and meet the standard requirement of harmonic measurement in complex situations.

Resumen

Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is the most common primary liver malignancy. Approximately 8% of patients with HCC are not suitable candidates for curative options. Caudate lobe HCC presents technical challenges for interventional radiologists. Caudate lobe HCC has higher local recurrence and poorer survival rate than other segments. Transarterial treatments of caudate HCC are difficult due to extreme variation of arterial supply. We present a case of a caudate lobe HCC with supply from the proper hepatic artery, which underwent successful conventional transcatheter arterial chemoembolization (cTACE) by utilizing a Fogarty catheter to direct the embolic material. The patient presented 5 days following the procedure with duodenitis and pancreatitis, which were managed conservatively. Follow-up imaging at 1 month showed significant improvement of the ischemic duodenitis/pancreatitis with successful cTACE.

Resumen

Abdominal ultrasound exams play a major role in the diagnosis of sinusoidal obstruction syndrome/veno-occlusive disease (SOS/VOD). The development of portable hand-held ultrasound devices (HHUS) has been shown to facilitate the diagnosis of many diseases, but little data on the value of HHUS in the diagnosis of SOS/VOD are available. We performed a study aimed at validating portable ultrasound (US) devices in the setting of hematopoietic stem cell transplant (HCT). Sixteen evaluable patients undergoing allogeneic HCT were studied using conventional US and HHUS during the first 3 weeks after transplant. The results obtained demonstrate that there is a close correlation between conventional and handheld ultrasound examination in the measurement of the right hepatic lobe (r = 0.912, p < 0.0001), the left hepatic lobe (r = 0.843, p < 0.0001), the portal vein (PV) (r = 0.724, p < 0.0001), and the spleen (r = 0.983, p < 0.0001) based on Pearson’s correlation. The same data, analyzed through Lin’s concordance correlation coefficient, evidenced a substantial level of agreement in the comparison of the spleen and right hepatic lobe, while a lower grade of agreement in the measurement of the portal vein and left hepatic lobe. Moreover, there was good agreement between results obtained by the two types of ultrasound devices in assessing ascites (p < 0.0001), gallbladder thickening (p < 0.0001), and the direction of PV flow (p < 0.0001). HHUS device allows the study of HokUs-10 parameters with an excellent agreement with conventional US, and may contribute to SOS/VOD diagnosis.

Resumen

The immediate post-colonial period offered opportunities as well as formidable challenges for former colonies of European powers. While colonial mentalities still pervaded in many European capitals and paternalism remained pervasive throughout the political diplomacy of the period, other perspectives were emerging. Through innovative policy engagements that occurred in the late 1950s and into the 1960s, a new sense of transnational purpose could be seen which presented former colonies with partnership options that were seemingly and practically outside the context of the historic geo-economic imposition. Whereas some European powers continued to exert overly dismissive attitudes to African engagement and society, other approaches experimented with developmental policies that were lauded by both sides at the time. This article will look at the practice and policies of associationism - the outworking of the Yaounde and Lome agreements - and will look at the formative international cooperation policies of the European Community (EC), as it evolved through the period when former European colonies were attaining independence. Finally, it will survey the reasons for the demise of associationism and speculate on the onset of what some have described as "neo-colonalism" (Langan, 2018: 1-32; Nkrumah, 1965).

New onset refractory status epilepticus (NORSE) is a relatively newly defined disease entity, where otherwise healthy individuals develop unrelenting seizures that do not respond to conventional anticonvulsant therapy and may require months of therapy with anesthetic drugs. We have described a case of NORSE who subsequently developed mesial temporal lobe sclerosis (MTS) and recurrent temporal lobe seizures. We discuss the possible pathophysiological mechanisms by which refractory seizures may contribute to the development of temporal lobe epilepsy (TLE).

Purpose. To evaluate the clinical utility of dense array electroencephalography (dEEG) for detecting and localizing interictal spikes in temporal lobe epilepsy. Methods. Simultaneous invasive and noninvasive recordings were performed across two different groups. (1) The first group underwent both noninvasive recording with 128 channels of (scalp) dEEG and invasive sphenoidal electrode recording. (2) The second group underwent both noninvasive recording with 256 channels of (scalp) dEEG and invasive intracranial EEG (icEEG) involving coverage with grids and strips over the lateral and mesial temporal lobe. A noninvasive to noninvasive comparison was made comparing the overall spike detection rate of the dEEG to that of conventional 10/20 EEG. A noninvasive to invasive comparison was made comparing the spike detection rate of dEEG to that of conventional 10/20 EEG plus sphenoidal electrodes. And finally, a noninvasive to invasive evaluation measuring the source localization ability of the dEEG using the icEEG as validation. Results. In the 128-channel dEEG study (1), 90.4% of the interictal spikes detected by the dEEG were not detected in the 10/20 montage. 91% of the dEEG-detected spikes were accurately localized to the medial temporal lobe. In the 256-channel dEEG study (2), 218 of 519 interictal spikes (42%) were detected by dEEG. 85% of these spikes were accurately localized to the medial temporal lobe, close to the position confirmed by subdural electrodes. Conclusion. Dense array EEG may provide more precise information than conventional EEG and has a potential for providing an alternative to sphenoidal electrode monitoring in patients with temporal lobe epilepsy.

Purpose The purpose of this study is to investigate the aerodynamic characteristics of subsonic jet emanating from corrugated lobed nozzle. Design/methodology/approach Numerical simulations of subsonic turbulent jets from corrugated lobed nozzles using shear stress transport k-ω turbulence model have been carried out. The analysis was carried out by varying parameters such as lobe length, lobe penetration and lobe count at a Mach number of 0.75. The numerical predictions of axial and radial variation of the mean axial velocity, u′u′ ¯ and v′v′ ¯ have been compared with experimental results of conventional round and chevron nozzles reported in the literature. Findings The centreline velocity at the exit of the corrugated lobed nozzle was found to be lower than the velocity at the outer edges of the nozzle. The predicted potential core length is lesser than the experimental results of the conventional round nozzle and hence the decay in centreline velocity is faster. The centreline velocity increases with the increase in lobe length and becomes more uniform at the exit. The potential core length increases with the increase in lobe count and decreases with the increase in lobe penetration. The turbulent kinetic energy region is narrower with early appearance of a stronger peak for higher lobe penetration. The centreline velocity degrades much faster in the corrugated nozzle than the chevron nozzle and the peak value of Reynolds stress appears in the vicinity of the nozzle exit. Practical implications The corrugated lobed nozzles are used for enhancing mixing without the thrust penalty inducing better acoustic benefits. Originality/value The prominent features of the corrugated lobed nozzle were obtained from the extensive study of variation of flow characteristics for different lobe parameters after making comparison with round and chevron nozzle, which paved the way to the utilization of these nozzles for various applications.

In order to study the diagnosis of computed tomography (CT) image-assisted pulmonary tuberculosis patients, patients who are diagnosed as tuberculosis in Wuhan No. 6 Hospital Affiliated to Jianghan University are selected as a research object, and multi-slice spiral CT and routine X-ray examination are performed. By analyzing and comparing multi-slice spiral CT and routine X-ray examination, the diagnostic value of tuberculosis is evaluated and the detection rate of lesions in the lung and clinical classification of tuberculosis are also evaluated (including the anterior segment of the upper lobe, the posterior segment of the superior lobe, the dorsal segment of the lower lobe, the basal segment of the lower lobe, and concealment). The results show that compared with conventional X-ray examination, the sensitivity and accuracy of multi-slice spiral CT examination for diagnosis of pulmonary tuberculosis are higher, and the difference is statistically significant. In the upper part of the upper lobe, the posterior part of the upper lobe, the lower part of the lower lobe, and the tuberculosis lesions in the basal segment and hidden part of the lower lobe, the detection rate of multi-slice spiral CT examination is significantly higher than the X-ray examination, and the difference is statistically significant. In the diagnosis of tuberculosis classification, the misdiagnosis rate of multi-slice spiral CT examination is significantly lower than the conventional X-ray examination, and the difference is statistically significant. Therefore, CT images have important reference value in the diagnosis of tuberculosis, the examination of lesions, and the clinical classification of tuberculosis. Although there are still some shortcomings in the research process, it still provides some basis and ideas for more precise research.

Motorbikes that are very much operated every day need fuel oil which is a fossil fuel that has been depleted and cannot be renewed. With the current conditions, it is necessary to control fuel consumption on a motorcycle. Setting the intake lobe lift, the exhaust lobe lift and valve gap have a positive impact on fuel consumption. There has been a lot of research about setting the intake lobe lift, the exhaust lobe lift and valve gap. The number of conventional motorcycle vehicles that are still operating requires special arrangements and deeper studies to be able to be economical in fuel consumption. The objectives of this study are: (1) to identify the factors that cause high fuel consumption. The research method uses the experimental method. By using pertamax. . The results showed that: 1) modification 2 uses the longest fuel consumption, and 2) there are effects of variations in the intake lobe lift and exhaust lobe lift on fuel consumption, 3) there is an effect of adjusting valve gap variations on fuel consumption, 4) there are the effect of variations in the intake lobe lift and exhaust lobe lift and adjustment of valve gap variations on fuel consumption.

Resumen

The paper defines the border between the far and near field zone of printed antenna arrays. The conventional definition has a limited application in side lobe suppression measurements, especially in the case of high side lobe suppression. The paper particularly details the printed antenna array with 8 radiation elements. Its symmetrical tapered feed network with Chebyshev distribution enables side lobe suppression greater than -44 dB in the E-plane. In addition, the influence of tolerances in the standard photolithographic process has been investigated. The expected tolerances in the standard photolithographic process have been assumed with moderate precision in order to estimate the side lobe suppression degradation due to amplitude and phase deviations, as well as deviations to optimized values in radiating element positioning.

Resumen

The need for telecommunications technology requires fast data transfer and increasing capacity. Therefore, telecommunications technology continues to be developed by creating transmitter and receiver devices that can work at Ultra-Wideband (UWB) frequencies. This study aims to design a coplanar Vivaldi antenna with a fractal structure so that the performance of the antenna radiation pattern can increase to apply UWB frequency. The conventional coplanar Vivaldi antenna, model-A, and Model-B fractal antennas are designed to see the performance of return loss values less than -10 dB, VSWR less than 2, and working frequency of 2-10 GHz. The fractal model is created with a circular repeating structure given at the edges of the antenna patch. From the simulation results, the main lobe value of the conventional Coplanar Vivaldi antenna was 5.21 dBi, the model-A fractal was 7.02 dBi, and the Model-B fractal was 7.84 dBi. The order of the best sidelobe performance at a frequency of 6 GHz is obtained for the model-A fractal of -9 dB. Beamwidth of 46 degrees and the best main lobe direction of 0 degrees is obtained for fractal model-B. By adding a fractal structure, the lobe magnitude/directivity, sidelobe level, beamwidth, and main lobe direction can be improved

Radar is known as the “eye” of modern warfare and plays a pivotal role in warfare, but the detection performance of radar systems is seriously affected by main-lobe cover jamming. To solve this problem, a radar target detection method based on four-channel monopulse radar is proposed in this paper. This method designed a spatial filter for main-lobe jamming cancellation, which could cancel the main-lobe jamming while keeping the target signal power unchanged, ensuring that the Electronic counter-countermeasure Improvement Factors (EIF) of the filtered signal always reach the maximum value to improve the target detection performance of monopulse radar. Resumen

Lamb wave pulse compression is a promising technique for ultrasonic nondestructive evaluation and structural health monitoring, in which the excitation waveform is designed to exhibit attractive auto-correlation characteristics including short main-lobe width and small side-lobe amplitude. However, narrowing main-lobe will increase side-lobe amplitude, and vice versa. Conventional time windowing technique is a balance between main-lobe width and side-lobe amplitude. An improvement over time windowing is proposed using pulse compression synthesis method. In this method, a series of excitation waveforms are used to actuate Lamb waves, each response is processed by pulse compression, and all the compression signals are summed together. The excitation series are constructed as linear chirps weighted with different combinations of rectangular and Hanning window functions. The selection of the combination coefficients is optimized to ensure best signal summation. The effectiveness of the proposed method is demonstrated by an experiment, and the robustness to inaccuracy in dispersion compensation is also evaluated. Application of the proposed method for damage detection is demonstrated by a further experiment.

The aim of this study was to test the technical feasibility of diffusion kurtosis imaging (DKI) in the brain after acute alcohol intoxication. Diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) and DKI during 7.0 T MRI were performed in the frontal lobe and thalamus before and 30 min, 2 h, and 6 h after ethyl alcohol administration. Compared with controls, mean kurtosis values of the frontal lobe and thalamus first decreased by 44% and 38% within 30 min (p<0.01 all) and then increased by 14% and 46% at 2 h (frontal lobe, p>0.05; thalamus, p<0.01) and by 29% and 68% at 6 h (frontal lobe, p<0.05; thalamus, p<0.01) after acute intake. Mean diffusivity decreased significantly in both the frontal lobe and the thalamus at various stages. However, fractional anisotropy decreased only in the frontal lobe, with no detectable change in the thalamus. This demonstrates that DKI possesses sufficient sensitivity for tracking pathophysiological changes at various stages associated with acute alcohol intoxication and may provide additional information that may be missed by conventional DTI parameters.

Clipping of a posterior projecting large posterior communicating aneurysm via transsylvian anterior temporal approach is presented. To expose and clip this large aneurysm, retraction of the temporal lobe is required via the conventional pterional approach. In this video, we demonstrate microsurgical techniques as to how to dissect and mobilize the sylvian veins as well as a bridging vein to the sphenoparietal sinus, and the middle cerebral artery branches to the frontal lobe side. After the microsurgical dissection, a wide anteriolateral temporal space is obtained without significant temporal lobe retraction. In this paper a method for the design of new rotor profiles for high-sealing lobe pump is presented. The objective of this research is to improve the sealing property of lobe pumps by designing chamber profile conforming rotors. The deviation function method is adopted for the design. The resultant rotors are trapping-free and have C1 continuity. A design procedure for rotor generation is also developed. A sealing index is defined to evaluate the sealing property of lobe pumps. The paper presents the improvement in the performance of eight element microstrip antenna array. The overall bandwidth of the proposed microstrip antenna array is equal to 85.74 % as compared to 4.98 % of the conventional antenna array. The proposed microstrip antenna array is producing good reduction in mutual coupling values at the resonant frequency of 5.53 GHz. Moreover, the radiation properties of conventional antenna array are improved with good reduction in power radiated in the undesired direction. The proposed microstrip antenna array is producing a healthy size reduction of 47.19 %. FR-4 glass epoxy substrate is used as dielectric substrate which has a dielectric constant of 4.2 and loss tangent of 0.0245. The microstrip antenna arrays are designed using Mentor Graphics IE3D software.

Aims: The aim of this study was to evaluate the impact of anatomical variations of the elongated left lobe of the liver on the ultrasound detection of focal liver lesions. Materials and methods: We evaluated, by ultrasonography (US), 296 patients with elongated left lobe of the liver and 30 patients with focal lesions in the normal length left lobe of the liver. Those patients had undergone prior computed tomography (CT) evaluation. Results: Of the 296 patients evaluated, 34 patients had focal lesions (the size range 11- 20 mm) in the distal region of the elongated left lobe of the liver, and none of the lesions was visualized at US examination (p<0.001). All the focal lesions in the normal length left lobe of the liver of the 30 patients were visualized by US without significant difference between the dimensions established by CT and US (p=0.136). Conclusion: Focal lesions in the distal region of elongated left lobe of the liver are difficult to be detected by conventional US examination and the main reason is the impact of anatomical localization on the examination protocol.

AbstractThe increasing demands on renewable energy nowadays caused the development of marine current turbine industry. In order to improve the current design of marine current turbines, studies were conducted to analyse their hydrodynamic performances during operation. Since most of the time marine current turbines operate in arrays, it is important to understand the interactions between the turbines in order to design the optimum turbine farm. OpenFOAM® was used to simulate the turbine interactions of conventional and biomimetic marine current turbines in tandem configuration. The conventional marine current turbines were referred to Pinon et al. (2012) and Mycek et al. (2013) while the biomimetic marine current turbine was adopted from Chu (2016). The numerical simulations were conducted with turbines in different inter-device distances, A/D. The percentage differences of ‘‘efficiency’’, η between the IFREMER-LOMC and the biomimetic turbine case of inter-device distances, A/D = 4, 6, 8 and 10 are 14.3%, 6.4%, 3% and 1.92% respectively. The results show that the power produced by the biomimetic turbines in tandem is comparable with the IFREMER-LOMC turbines when A/D > 4. The biomimetic marine current turbines can be a fair choice due to their potential to have alternative fabrication method of their sheet-like turbine blades.

We reviewed experiments in which patients with documented, circumscribed frontal pathology were compared with normal control subjects on these three types of tests. Contrary to conventional wisdom, there is strong evidence that frontal damage disrupts performance on all three types of tests, with the greatest impairment in free recall, and the smallest in recognition. Magnetic resonance (MR) diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI) is often used to detect focal liver lesions (FLLs), though DWI image quality can be limited in the left liver lobe owing to the pulsatile motion of the nearby heart. Flow-compensated (FloCo) diffusion encoding has been shown to reduce this pulsation artifact. The purpose of this prospective study was to intra-individually compare DWI of the liver acquired with conventional monopolar and FloCo diffusion encoding for assessing metastatic FLLs in non-cirrhotic patients. Forty patients with known or suspected multiple metastatic FLLs were included and measured at 1.5 T field strength with a conventional (monopolar) and a FloCo diffusion encoding EPI sequence (single refocused; b-values, 50 and 800 s/mm2). Two board-certified radiologists analyzed the DWI images independently. They issued Likert-scale ratings (1 = worst, 5 = best) for pulsation artifact severity and counted the difference of lesions visible at b = 800 s/mm² separately for small and large FLLs (i.e., < 1 cm or > 1 cm) and separately for left and right liver lobe. Differences between the two diffusion encodings were assessed with the Wilcoxon signed-rank test. Both readers found a reduction in pulsation artifact in the liver with FloCo encoding (p < 0.001 for both liver lobes). More small lesions were detected with FloCo diffusion encoding in both liver lobes (left lobe: six and seven additional lesions by readers 1 and 2, respectively; right lobe: five and seven additional lesions for readers 1 and 2, respectively). Both readers found one additional large lesion in the left liver lobe. Thus, flow-compensated diffusion encoding appears more effective than monopolar diffusion encoding for the detection of liver metastases.

SUMMARY Experimental pneumonia caused by Pasteurella haemolytica was induced in 2-week-old gnotobiotic (n = 4) and conventional (n = 6) calves by endobronchial inoculation into the right caudal lung lobe of 7.9 × 1010 ± 0.6 × 1010 (mean ± sd) colony-forming units of P haemolytica in the 6-hour log phase of growth. The calves were studied for 24 hours or less. Regression lines for the relationship between clinical index and time for the gnotobiotic group and conventional group of calves were compared, and the clinical index was found to be significantly (P ≤ 0.005) more rapid in the gnotobiotic group. There was also a significant difference in the preinoculation, absolute segmented neutrophil count (P ≤ 0.05), and in the total serum protein, albumin, and globulin values (P ≤ 0.05). Comparison of the preinoculation and post inoculation blood cell and blood chemical values revealed a significant increase (P ≤ 0.05) in the numbers of band neutrophils and fibrinogen in conventional calves, and a significant decrease (P ≤ 0.05) in the total wbc count in gnotobiotic calves. Necropsy of both groups of calves revealed a circular to oblong lesion that was congested, edematous, and firm, and which occupied 20% to 100% of the right caudal lung lobe and involved the remaining lung lobes to a more minor degree. When mean lesion scores of the 2 groups of calves were compared, no significant difference (P ≤ 0.05) was found. Microscopic examination of the lungs revealed edema of the perivascular and interlobular septa and hemorrhage in the alveoli of both groups, although the conventional group had more fibrinopurulent inflammation.

The target must be located within the main-lobe of the antenna in order to measure the direction of the target by using sum-delta monopulse technique. The most common way if the target is located within the main-lobe is to compare the amplitude of the sum channel received signal with the delta channel received signal. However, in the case of the single-ring circular array antenna, it is difficult to apply the conventional method due to its structural limitation where antenna elements do not exist in the center of the array. In this paper, we proposed a novel method to identify whether a target is located within the main-lobe by appropriately adjusting the feeding amplitude of each element constituting the single-ring circular array antenna through the particle swarm optimization method. Simulation results showed that the proposed method can determine whether the target is located within the main-lobe of the single-ring circular array antenna.

Aim: The present study evaluated the duration of chemoembolization in patients with hepatocellular carcinoma, analyzing possible factors affecting the procedural time. Methods: In total, 175 patients who underwent chemoembolization have been prospectively enrolled. The procedural length was considered the time between the insertion and the removal of the angiographic sheath. The features related to the tumor burden and angiographic procedures, which could be related to the procedural time, were recorded. Results: The chemoembolization time resulted in a mean of 58.1 min. The longer procedural time was associated with a number of nodules treated per patient ≥ 2 (P < 0.001), a number of segments with nodules ≥ 2 (P < 0.001), the presence of more than 1 nodule in the same segment (P < 0.001), the location of the tumor in the left lobe (P = 0.001), the exclusion from the Milan criteria (P < 0.001), and a number of segments treated ≥ 2 (P < 0.001). Only the number of nodules treated per patient resulted significantly in multivariate analysis (OR 2.927, 95%CI: 2.015-4.251, P < 0.001). Conclusion: The factors related to longer procedural time are the number of nodules treated ≥ 2, the number of segments with nodules ≥ 2, the involvement of the left lobe, the tumor burden outside the Milan criteria, and the number of segments treated ≥ 2. All these characteristics, known in the pre-procedural phase, represent useful tools for a correct planning of the angiographic room’s workflow during the pandemic era as well as in the future to reduce downtime and increase productivity.

This paper aims to explore how the ideological and interpretive strategies of this un-conventional artist are imbued with the erotic capital and patriarchal power relations of the modern consumer society. A selection of publicly available performances by Astanova has been made, most of which are presented to the audience in the form of video clips. The focus is understandably on Astanova's interpretations of classical music, whose prosaic elements of eroticism and overdramatising musical narration are primarily, but not exclusively, intended for the ear of a patriarchally interpellated listener.

Background: Differentiating flow gaps associated with hypoplastic transverse sinus from venous thrombosis is a diagnostic challenge in brain magnetic resonance imaging with venography. Objectives: To assess the clinical benefit of anatomical signs to anticipate the side of the dominant transverse sinus. Patients and Methods: A total of 100 patients underwent brain magnetic resonance imaging with venography at the radiology department /medical city and were retrospectively reviewed for the direction of superior sagittal sinus flow void, inclination of sulcus for the superior sagittal sinus, angulation of the posterior falx and direction of occipital lobe bending in axial non-contrast T1 weighted image, then compare these findings with a side of the dominant transverse sinus in magnetic resonance venography. Results: Inclination of sulcus for superior sagittal sinus and superior sagittal sinus flow void direction toward the right side had high positive predictive values (95.5%) and (93.2 %) in proper matching with the right transverse sinus dominance, respectively. Right-sided angulation of the posterior flax and rightward direction of the occipital lobe had a positive predictive value of (90.9 %) in predicting transverse sinus dominance. Conclusion: The side of dominant transverse sinus can be anticipated by reviewing anatomical signs in T1 weighted image, which may help to differentiate hypoplastic transverse sinus from venous thrombosis that aid in better interpretation of brain MRI- MRV examinations.

Aiming to resolve azimuth-dense targets in interference environments, the radar needs to have the ability of single snap echo angular super-resolution with anti-interference. To solve the problem, the angular super-resolution algorithm based on single snap echo while anti-interference with blocking matrix method is studied for active phased array radar (APAR) in this paper. Since the super-resolution ability of the conventional MUSIC algorithm and iterative adaptive algorithm (IAA) algorithm are limited in single snap echo, the iterative re-weighted least squares (IRLS) algorithm under p-norm constraint is proposed. Further, the near main lobe interference suppression ability is enhanced by the adaptive diagonal loading method. The performance differences of IAA and IRLS algorithms for single-target detection and double-target angular super-resolution are analyzed in detail by numerical simulation on three scenes of no interference, side-lobe interference, and near-main-lobe interference. The simulation results show that the proposed algorithm can effectively solve the problem of target angle estimation and super-resolution based on single sample echo in an interference environment, including near main-lobe interference.

ABSTRACT A 69 year‐old man with a history of recent temporal lobe seizures, presented with progressive coma and frequent epileptic spasms. Ictal EEG, PET and SPECT alterations were strikingly similar to those described in infantile spasms. Conventional antiepileptic drugs were ineffective but the introduction of corticoids induced a dramatic improvement with disappearance of the spasms. The etiology remains unknown. Epileptic spasms may occur in the elderly. If conventional antiepileptic drugs are ineffective, corticoids should be tried immediately.

Abstract Using the FDTD simulation, sharp focusing of a linearly polarized Gaussian beam with an embedded topological charge m = 3 by a phase zone plate and focusing of a Gaussian beam by a phase spiral zone plate with topological charge m = 3 were studied. The obtained results showed that proposed elements formed different patterns of intensity at a focal plane. The spiral zone plate forms a focal spot with three petals. At a distance of 13.5 μm from the focus, the lobe structure of the intensity (and energy flux) is replaced by an annular distribution.

Abstract We propose and demonstrate a novel vortex Airy beam which is a superposition of an Airy beam and its laterally sheared beam with a π/2 phase shift. This new-type of vortex Airy beam exhibits stable propagation dynamics, wherein its singular point closely follows its main lobe, unlike conventional vortex Airy beams. Notably, the orbital angular mode purity of this new vortex Airy beam is up to 10% better than that of a conventional vortex Airy beam. We anticipate that this new type of vortex Airy beam, which combines the characteristics of an optical vortex and a diffraction-free Airy beam, will facilitate new directions in applications such as microscopy, material processing and nonlinear optics.

Resumen

It is necessary to identify the epileptogenic zone in patients with intractable epilepsy. It is, however, difficult to identify thelesion in conventional MRI including T1WI and T2WI. Another pulse sequence, FLAIR (Fluid-attenuated inversion recovery) image,may give a clue to identify the epileptogenic lesion in MRI. This study included 20 patients, who did not show discrete unilateralhippocampal atrophy or sclerosis, and who showed unilateral hippoccampal atrophy and contralateral sclerosis in T1WI or T2WI.Preoperatively, all patients had chronic video-EEG (Electroencephalography) monitoring with standard surface electrodes anddepth electrodes in bilateral hippocampus. Standard anterior temporal lobectomy was performed in 17 patients, and selectiveamygdalohippocampectomy was done in three. MRI including T1WI and T2WI recognized unilateral hippocampal atrophy andsclerosis in three, unilateral hippocampal atrophy and contralateral hippocampal sclerosis in three. The rest of the patients didnot show any identifiable lesion in MRI. FLAIR image, however, identified high signal intensity of the unilateral hippocampus in12, bilateral hippocampus in three, and showed none of change in five. Anterior temporal lobectomy was performed based onthe data of the MRI with FLAIR image and depth EEGs. Histopathologic findings revealed hippocampal sclerosis in all. 18patients were seizure free at the follow-up period of 16- 28 months. In patients with intractable temporal lobe epilepsy whohad difficulty in lateralizing the epileptogenic temporal lobe in semiology, surface EEG, and the conventional MRI including T1WIand T2WI, FLAIR image is of value in identifying the epileptoge nic hippocampus.

Resumen

Roots blower is a positive displacement machine that has the advantage of a larger flow than conventional blowers. Roots blowers are widely used in industrial production such as chemicals, food, medical, etc. However, during actual operation, this type of machine often achieves low performance. One of the issues that greatly affect performance is the flow characteristics of the blower. Flow characteristics include factors related to flow rate, pressure, and flow phenomena in the blower chamber. Flow characteristic analysis is a complex problem in hydraulic machines. Flow analysis helps to investigate the motion of the flow to design high-performance machines. This study uses a mathematical model of gear theory to design the rotor profile with cylindrical and helical lobes of the multi-lobe Roots blower. The rotor profile is formed on the principle that the ellipse rolls without slipping on the base circle. On the basis of the mathematical model of the rotor profile, the paper compares the flow rate and pressure characteristics of the two blowers. The fluid dynamics analysis model was built on ANSYS software. The structural grid model is also built to increase the computational efficiency of the mathematical model. The lobes are embedded and rotated in the blower chamber. The results show that with the same radial and axial dimensions, the cylindrical lobe has a larger flow. However, the helical lobe has a more stable flow quality than the cylindrical lobe (15.2 % less flow fluctuation). In terms of pressure, the helical lobe type has a higher pressure than the cylindrical lobe type. In addition, the helical lobe type also reduces the influence of eddy currents acting on the blower chamber walls and rotors. That results in increased blower efficiency. The results of the paper will be a reliable basis for reducing time in the development of multi-lobe Roots blowers with high performance

Resumen

Capon beamforming has better resolution and interference rejection capability. However, its performance will seriously degrade due to noise, array steering vector error, and other factors. In this paper, a robust Capon beamforming applied to a planar array is described. It is shown that the proposed method is the natural extension of the original Vector Optimization Robust Beamforming algorithm to the case of a planar array, and can be reformulated as a convex second-order cone program and solved by SEDUMI. Computer simulation has shown that the proposed method has better performance than other conventional methods, such as narrower main lobe and lower side lobe.
