Le travail presente est divise en quatre parties : biographie, analyse, documentation et catalogue. La biographie est la premiere qui soit consacree a jean lurcat (1892-1966) ; elle s'appuie sur un grand nombre de sources manuscrites (conservees essentiellement dans les archives familiales) et imprimees, chaque annee de la vie de l'artiste formant l'objet d'un paragraphe. L'analyse de l'oeuvre peint presente une partie historique (la carriere de l'artiste divisee en quatre periodes tres determinees de creation: les debuts, la maturite, le doute, l'impulsion nouvelle) ; en second lieu, interviennent les elements d'approfondissement : les gouts et idees artistiques (societe, peinture, ecoles, intervenants exterieurs), les themes et les sujets (traites successivement : l'etre anime, le paysage, la nature morte) avec mise en lumiere de leur valeur symbolique, la methode de travail (les conditions de l'oeuvre, le choix des materiaux, le principe d'execution). La documentation offre une bibliographie abondante (546 references), la liste documentee des expositions personnelles (120) et collectives (176) de l'artiste, une fortune critique reunissant les extraits des plus prestigieux historiens et critiques ayant ecrit sur la peinture de jean lurcat. Le catalogue raisonne constitue la partie la plus importante : 1427 oeuvres y sont recensees, dont 1357 sont regulierement cataloguees (une page par oeuvre) : 634 huiles, 723 aquarelles, gouaches ou pastels. Sont donnees les references et une illustration (pour 1065 oeuvres)
This thesis is divided in four parts : biography, analysis, documentation and catalogue. The biography is the first to be reserved to jean lurcat (1892-1966) ; it is based on many manuscripts (keeped in the family's archives) and printed works, each year of the artist's life forming the subject of a paragraph. In the analysis of the painting work, we find an historic part ( the artist's career is divided in four distinct parts of creation : beginning, maturity, period of doubt, new impulse) ; in the second place, we find elements of deeper study (society, painting, artistic movements, exterior intervening elements), the themes and the subjects (successively treated : lively being, landscape, still life), bringing to light their symbolic worth, working method (conditions of the work, selection of the materials, system of execution). The documentation offers an abundant bibliography (546 references), the documented list of personal (120) and collective (176) artist's exhibitions, a "fortune critique" with some texts of the greatest historians and critics on the painting of jean lurcat. The catalogue raisonne forms the most important part : 1427 works are registered, 1357 are really catalogued (one page for one work) : 634 oils, 723 water-colours, gouaches and pastels. Native advertising is a marketing strategy that aims to merge advertising into journalistic articles. It is a relatively new form of advertising that is rapidly growing and more media companies are applying this kind of content to secure their future revenues.   This study explores the understanding of native advertising and its impact on peoples trust towards today’s online newspapers. The thesis is a qualitative study based on eight interviews with online news consumers. The theoretical perspective in this study is based on research regarding trust, ethos and the struggling media landscape.   Our study shows that native advertising does have influence on the consumer’s perception towards online newspapers. It also shows that the level of confusion between journalistic content and native advertising is noticeable. For some of our respondents it was hard to define whether they were reading an article written by a journalist or a company.

The first of April, the day of the year everyone go on needles and wondering who will fool you today. Every year at least the mass media try to create an inventive, or less inventive news about something that may became a topic that everyone talks about. Sometimes an April joke becomes a classic one and something that will be remembered a long time after. Therefore, this study will contain a qualitative text analysis on the famous Swedish April joke from 1962, which was about to pull over a nylon stocking over the television to create color TV. A classic, that even the younger generation knows about and is the second-best April joke in the world. We, in this study group belongs to the younger generation which has become a challenge to analyze this April joke which is 56 years old and were before our time. That's why the context of the 60’s has been an important part of this study to have an opportunity to get in to that situation and understand the context. This study is going to analyze which rhetorical means in conjunction with the context that has affected this April joke in the way it did, and with help of rhetorical analysis, study how the theory was used and had an impact on the successful joke. The rhetorical analysis will mainly focus on the arguments used in the April joke, and also the visual language such as body language and the way of talking. The study will make observations in the context, how society and the population looked up to the media and its responsibility for the people. A central part of the context will be the new media, television, that quickly developed during the current decade. Public service with power over the television gave together an important position and a big part in the April joke’s significant context. Our analysis shows good reasons to believe that rhetoric and its arguments are a prerequisite for succeeding in reaching such type of message, and that the position of public service and television at that time had a major role in how April jokes became a general topic and perhaps gave color TV a chance earlier than was meant in Sweden. All those elements together will prove to be a major part of the successful April joke, and through our analyze we find the answer to our question. Discussion and conclusion explain the positive and negative aspects of the analysis and what it has come to, and put it in relation to the context. The study presents interesting topics and suggestions on future research that have emerged after the work has been completed.

The factor structure of the Luria Nebraska Neuropsychological Battery (LNNB) Form II was examined. A principle components factor analysis was performed on a sample of 102 psychiatric and neurologic subjects. It was necessary to remove 45 items from the analysis due to perfect performance by most subjects. The results were orthogonally rotated to simple structure using a Varimax method of rotation, and then compared to previous LNNB Form I and Form II results. Thirty-three factors were generated in the Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA) . There was a very high agreement with the factors from Form I. Only one new factor was identified that didn't have a comparable Form I factor, and this factor appears to have neurological support. The similarity of the factor solutions between the two forms supports the continued use of factors derived from Form I for the interpretation of Form II, and supports the underlying structure presupposed by Lurian constructs. The present study also tested the significance of the hypothesized factor structures through confirmatory factor analysis (CFA). No hypothesis about the underlying factor structure based on previous exploratory studies was supported. The CFA did suggest that the best factor solution to the LNNB Form II is one that (a) has correlated factors and (b) has items loading on more than one factor. The confirmatory results were interpreted as not supporting the current exploratory results, or the previous factor analytic results. Problems notwithstanding, researchers may be better directed to propose factor models for the LNNB that have correlated factors, and to work samples approaching the 10 to 1 recommended sample size for multivariate analysis. One conclusion that was drawn from the concurrence between the two Form II studies pertains to psychiatric populations used in both studies. It was necessary to exclude a large number of items in each study due to perfect performance by most of the subjects on those items. Most of the items removed were identical in both studies supporting the notion that a shortened version of the LNNB could be administered to psychiatric populations.

Hjälpverktyget vid genomförandet var att använda oss av teorin, Option Framing. Delsyftet var att undersöka nuvarande prissättningsmodell inom revisions- och redovisningsbranschen. Metod: Studien innehåller två delar, en kvantitativ del och en kvalitativ del. I den kvantitativa delen var utgångspunkten tidigare forskning och med hjälp av den tidigare forskningen utformades två enkäter. Den delades ut till småföretagare i Gävleområdet. Resultatet analyserades i programmet Minitab16 och sammanställdes bland annat med en bivariat analys. Den kvalitativa delen bestod av intervjuer och sammanställdes bland annat med hjälp av NVivo10. Resultat och slutsats: Resultatet som erhölls i den kvantitativa delen av studien var likartad med tidigare forskning inom området. Utifrån Option Framing och Bivariat analysen påvisades olika samband som firmorna kan dra nytta av i arbetet att paketera tjänster. I den kvalitativa delen framkom att revisions- och redovisningsfirmorna börjat frångå den gamla konservativa timprissättningen. Förslag till fortsatt forskning: Studien behandlar Option Framing på komplexa tjänster (redovisningstjänster) och vidare forskning kan göras på extremt komplexa samt icke komplexa tjänster. Uppsatsens bidrag: Utifrån teori och empiri rekommenderar studien att se till de samband vi funnit vid paketering av tjänster. Syftet med uppsatsen är att undersöka hur verksamma pedagoger ser på och förklarar begreppen kunskap och lärande i förskolan. Vi har undersökt om det finns likheter och skillnader i dessa resonemang med det som uttrycks i läroplanen för förskolan (Lpfö 98). För att besvara frågeställningarna valde vi att intervjua fyra förskollärare verksamma i förskolan. Vi använde oss av en kvalitativ intervjumetod som vi kompletterade med filmade observationer av respektive pedagog. Det filmade materialet användes endast som diskussionsunderlag i intervjuerna. Den teoretiska utgångspunkten var dels Läroplanskommiténs betänkande Skola för bildning (SOU 1992:94) och Ingrid Carlgrens definitioner av kunskapsbegreppet, samt det sociokulturella perspektivet och Vygotskijs resonemang kring lärande, då detta ligger till grund för den lärandesyn som uttrycks i Lpfö 98. Resultatet visade att pedagogerna hade svårt att definiera kunskap och lärande, samt att deras förklaringar inte alltid följde de praktiska exempel de gav. De talade bland annat om samspel, kommunikation, lekfulla sammanhang, barns intresse och pedagogens roll som styrande och den som har kunskap. Vår slutsats är att pedagogerna inte aktivt och medvetet tar stöd i Lpfö 98 för att beskriva sin kunskaps- och lärandesyn. De använder ofta samma begrepp som läroplanen uttrycker, däremot har begreppen inte alltid samma innebörd eller definition.

The Luria-Nebraska Neuropsychological Battery (LNNB) was published in 1980 as an attempt to provide clinicians with a standardized version of the neuropsychological assessment and diagnostic procedures proposed by A. R. Luria and A, L. Christensen. Research on the LNNB included a series of factor analyses for each of eleven clinical scales. The analyses were completed on the combined scores obtained from a sample of normal, brain-damaged, and psychiatric populations. A second version of the LNNB was published in 1985 as a largely parallel version of Form I, but included changes in stimulus materials, administration procedures, and scoring procedures. The present study completed factor analyses on same eleven clinical scales using data generated with the newer LNNB Form II. The statistical procedures and criteria employed in the present investigation were identical to those used earlier on Form I to allow for comparisons between the two resulting sets of factor structures. The patient populations were different, however, in that all subjects in the current study were receiving inpatient care in a private psychiatric hospital which specializes in long-term treatment. Despite the changes in materials and procedures and the difference in subject parameters, the factors identified in the present investigation are similar to those seen in the Form I studies. However, two trends were observed when comparing the two sets of factor structures. First, in the present study several items were excluded from the statistical procedures because they were performed perfectly by almost everyone and the resulting scores lacked statistical variance. Second, more homogenous factors were obtained with the Form II analysis. That is, some of the complex LNNB Form I factors were reduced to two or more simpler factors. The results of the study lend support to Luna's conceptual model of higher cortical function and to the reliability of the LNNB as an assessment instrument.

Utilizada amplamente como agente terapêutico no tratamento da leucemia linfoblástica aguda (LLA), a L-Asparaginase II (ASNase) é uma enzima que atua diminuindo a concentração de asparagina livre no plasma. Dessa forma, impede o fornecimento de asparagina para a proliferação de células malignas, as quais ao contrário das células saudáveis, não conseguem sintetizar a asparagina. A ASNase utilizada atualmente no Brasil é importada, o que gera problemas com custo e abastecimento. Sendo assim, é notavelmente atrativa a procura por sistemas que apresentem níveis elevados de expressão de asparaginase e o encontro de formas de produzir tal enzima para um fácil acesso e, se possível, com menor potencial alérgico. Isso nos incentiva a estudar a produção biotecnológica de ASNase produzida em Escherichia coli BL21 (DE3) recombinante que super expressa esta enzima. O objetivo deste trabalho foi estabelecer, em agitador orbital e sistema descontínuo, os parâmetros do cultivo e indução da bactéria Escherichia coli BL21 visando à produção de ASNase, os quais serão úteis para futuros estudos em sistema descontínuo-alimentado. Nosso trabalho avaliou fatores que influenciam a fase de crescimento e/ou a fase de indução da E. coli BL21 (DE3): meio de cultivo baseado na composição elementar, controle do pH, uso de glicose ou glicerol como fonte de carbono, formação de acetato, tempo inicial e final da indução, permeabilização celular para secreção da ASNase, concentração de indutor, temperatura de pós-indução. Nós apresentamos uma estratégia para produção extracelular de ASNase em E. coli BL21 (DE3) pelo crescimento em meio Luria Bertani (LB) modificado para permeabilização celular. A produtividade volumétrica de ASNase extracelular foi 484 IU L h-1 em agitador orbital, correspondendo a 89 % de secreção após 24h de pós-indução com IPTG a 37 ºC. Isto representou rendimento 50 % maior para a ASNase total e 15,5 vezes mais secreção de ASNase em relação ao uso do meio LB modificado. Entretanto no cultivo em biorreator de 3 L nas mesmas condições (exceto a forma de aeração: 500 rpm de agitação e 1 vvm de vazão de ar, kLa = 88 h-1) operado em regime descontínuo foram obtidos resultados semelhantes aos cultivos em agitador orbital, sendo a produtividade volumétrica da ASNase extracelular igual a 525 IU L h-1 após 20 h de pós-indução. A biomassa obtida para agitador orbital e biorreator foi 3,26 e 2,63 g L-1, respetivamente. Por esse motivo, esses resultados foram considerados promissores para aumentar a produtividade nos futuros ensaios em biorreator operado em regime descontinuo-alimentado.
Widely used as a therapeutic agent in the treatment of acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL), L-Asparaginase II (ASNase) is an enzyme that works by reducing the concentration of free asparagine in plasma. Thus, it prevents the delivery of asparagine to the proliferation of malignant cells, which unlike healthy cell, cannot synthesize asparagine. ASNase currently used in Brazil is imported, which causes problems with cost and supply. Thus, the search for systems with high levels of asparaginase expression and the finding of ways to produce this enzyme for easy access and, if possible, with a lower allergic potential, are strikingly attractive. This encourages us to study the biotechnological production of ASNase in recombinant Escherichia coli BL21 (DE3) which super expresses this enzyme. The objective of this work was to establish, in shaker and batch bioreactor system, growth and induction parameters of the Escherichia coli BL21 aiming the production of ASNase, which will be useful for future studies in a fed-batch system. Our work evaluated factors that influenced the growth and induction phase of E. coli BL21 (DE3): culture medium based on elemental composition, pH control, use of glucose or glycerol as carbon source, formation of acetate, initial and final induction time, cellular permeabilization for ASNase secretion, inducer concentration, post-induction temperature. We performed a strategy for extracellular production of ASNase in E. coli BL21 (DE3) by growing in modified Luria Bertani (LB) medium for cell permeabilization. The volumetric productivity of extracellular ASNase was 484 IU L h-1 on shaker, which reached 89% secretion at 24 h of post-induction with IPTG at 37°C. This represented an increase yield of 50 % regarding to the total ASNase formed and 15.5 times the ASNase secretion as compared to that attained with LB modified. While in batch 2L-bioreactor cultivation under the same conditions (except for the aeration employed: 500 rpm of stirring and 1 vvm of air flow, kLa = 88 h-1) it was obtained similar results in relation to shaker cultures. The volumetric productivity of extracellular ASNase was 525 IU L h-1 at 20 h of post-induction. The biomass obtained for shaker and bioreactor were 3.26 and 2.63 g L-1, respectively. For this reason, we consider these promising results to increase productivity in future studies in bioreactor operated as fed-batch regimen.

CoordenaÃÃo de AperfeiÃoamento de Pessoal de NÃvel Superior
Esta dissertaÃÃo, de natureza teÃrico-bibliogrÃfica, centrou-se na anÃlise das categorias trabalho e linguagem na obra de Alexander Romanovich Luria. Partimos do pressuposto, presente na ontologia marxiano-lukacsiana, de que o trabalho foi o ato que fundou o mundo dos homens e todos os complexos que o comportam. Nessa perspectiva, a hipÃtese central da pesquisa à formulada em torno de que o trabalho, categoria fundante do ser social, dà origem, com a participaÃÃo fundamental da linguagem, à atividade consciente e Ãs funÃÃes psÃquicas superiores do homem, as quais decorrem das prÃprias necessidades engendradas pela atividade humana. Buscamos, assim, investigar como figuram as categorias trabalho e linguagem em Luria e em que medida elas guardam correspondÃncia com os termos postos na ontologia do ser social, identificando, ainda, a sua relaÃÃo na gÃnese e desenvolvimento das funÃÃes psÃquicas superiores. Antes de adentramos nas questÃes centrais de nossa pesquisa, consideramos fundamental a apresentaÃÃo da biografia do autor estudado, com o intuito de situarmos o contexto histÃrico no qual se gestaram suas idÃias, bem como a sua filiaÃÃo a Vigotski e Leontiev no campo do materialismo histÃrico-dialÃtico. Ao analisarmos as obras de Luria, pudemos constatar que o tratamento dado pelo autor Ãs categorias trabalho e linguagem se assenta nos preceitos fundamentais da ontologia do ser social, evidenciando o primado do trabalho em relaÃÃo aos demais complexos, incluindo, assim, a linguagem, que surge das necessidades engendradas por ele. Nesse contexto, o trabalho comparece, juntamente com a linguagem, como o ato que forja a atividade consciente do homem, desenvolvendo neste, funÃÃes complexas, as quais nÃo estÃo presentes nos animais.
This dissertation, which has a bibliographical nature, was centered upon the analysis of the categories of labor and language in the work of Alexander Romanovich Luria. From the point of view of Marxian-Lukacsian ontology, it assumed labor as the act that founded human world and all the complexes which encompass human experience. Therefore, it elected as the main hypothesis, that labor, as the founding category of the social being, with the special participation of language, accounts for the origin of the conscientious activity and of the higher psychological functions in humans, both resulting from the necessities engendered by human activity itself. In this perspective, we tried to investigate to what extent the treatment ascribed by Luria to the categories of labor and language are consistent with the premises put by the ontology of social being, identifying, moreover, their relationship within the genesis and development of the higher psychological functions. Before discussing the main research questions, we considered of great importance to present Luriaâs biography, in order to place the historical context in which his ideas were fostered, attesting his affiliation with Vigotski and Leontiev, as well, in the field of historical-dialectical materialism. The results of the research indicated that the treatment given by Luria to the categories of labor and language agree with the fundamental ontological concepts, emphasizing labor as the primary category in relation to the other complexes, herein included the complex of language. In this context, labor, together with language, brought about human conscientious activity, developing in man, complex functions, which are not present in animals.

This dissertation, which has a bibliographical nature, was centered upon the analysis of the categories of labor and language in the work of Alexander Romanovich Luria. From the point of view of Marxian-Lukacsian ontology, it assumed labor as the act that founded human world and all the complexes which encompass human experience. Therefore, it elected as the main hypothesis, that labor, as the founding category of the social being, with the special participation of language, accounts for the origin of the conscientious activity and of the higher psychological functions in humans, both resulting from the necessities engendered by human activity itself. In this perspective, we tried to investigate to what extent the treatment ascribed by Luria to the categories of labor and language are consistent with the premises put by the ontology of social being, identifying, moreover, their relationship within the genesis and development of the higher psychological functions. Before discussing the main research questions, we considered of great importance to present Luria’s biography, in order to place the historical context in which his ideas were fostered, attesting his affiliation with Vigotski and Leontiev, as well, in the field of historical-dialectical materialism. The results of the research indicated that the treatment given by Luria to the categories of labor and language agree with the fundamental ontological concepts, emphasizing labor as the primary category in relation to the other complexes, herein included the complex of language. In this context, labor, together with language, brought about human conscientious activity, developing in man, complex functions, which are not present in animals.
Esta dissertação, de natureza teórico-bibliográfica, centrou-se na análise das categorias trabalho e linguagem na obra de Alexander Romanovich Luria. Partimos do pressuposto, presente na ontologia marxiano-lukacsiana, de que o trabalho foi o ato que fundou o mundo dos homens e todos os complexos que o comportam. Nessa perspectiva, a hipótese central da pesquisa é formulada em torno de que o trabalho, categoria fundante do ser social, dá origem, com a participação fundamental da linguagem, à atividade consciente e às funções psíquicas superiores do homem, as quais decorrem das próprias necessidades engendradas pela atividade humana. Buscamos, assim, investigar como figuram as categorias trabalho e linguagem em Luria e em que medida elas guardam correspondência com os termos postos na ontologia do ser social, identificando, ainda, a sua relação na gênese e desenvolvimento das funções psíquicas superiores. Antes de adentramos nas questões centrais de nossa pesquisa, consideramos fundamental a apresentação da biografia do autor estudado, com o intuito de situarmos o contexto histórico no qual se gestaram suas idéias, bem como a sua filiação a Vigotski e Leontiev no campo do materialismo histórico-dialético. Ao analisarmos as obras de Luria, pudemos constatar que o tratamento dado pelo autor às categorias trabalho e linguagem se assenta nos preceitos fundamentais da ontologia do ser social, evidenciando o primado do trabalho em relação aos demais complexos, incluindo, assim, a linguagem, que surge das necessidades engendradas por ele. Nesse contexto, o trabalho comparece, juntamente com a linguagem, como o ato que forja a atividade consciente do homem, desenvolvendo neste, funções complexas, as quais não estão presentes nos animais.

Denna studie analyserar hur den svenska gangsterrappen, utifrån tre utvalda artister, representeras ur ett bourdieuanskt kultursociologiskt perspektiv. Genom en kvalitativ innehållsanalys analyseras fem låtar av vardera artist för att undersöka kulturen som står till grund för det sociala fältet. Det teoretiska ramverket utgår från musikens sociologi, representation, kapital och habitus och dess begrepp. Resultatet visar att de 15 utvalda låtarna har gemensamma egenskaper som kan placeras i mallen av en subkultur. I alla tre artisters låttexter används liknande begrepp och slang för att framhäva meningen i musiken och de två kapital som är mest utstickande är det ekonomiska och, det tillagda kapitalet, våldskapitalet. Det eftersom en större del av låtarna handlar om ett liv i förorten där de två kapitalen genomsyrar den livsstilen de beskriver sig leva. I studien framgår det att den svenska gangsterrappen berättas på ett sätt som kan beskrivas som rått, ärligt och långt ifrån ursäktande.
This study analyzes how the Swedish gangsterrap, based on three selected artists, is represented from a Bourdieuian cultural sociological perspective. Through a qualitative content analysis, five songs are analyzed by each artist to examine the culture that underlies the social field. The theoretical framework is based on the sociology of music, representation, capital and habitus and its concepts. The result shows that the 15 selected songs have common characteristics that can be placed in the template of subculture. All three artists use similar concepts and slang to emphasize the meaning of their music and the two capital that stand out the most are the economic and, the added capital, the violent capital. This is because a larger part of the songs is about a life in the hood where the two capitals saturate the lifestyle they describe themselves living. The study shows that the Swedish gangsterrap is told in a way that can be described as raw, honest and far from apologetic.

B rucella lipopolysaccharide is an important component of virulence in brucellosis. Recent research in macrophage models has shown that Brucella LPS does not behave like classical LPS by stimulating potent inflammatory responses. The central hypothesis of this work is that O-antigen is dynamic signaling molecular and participates in complex interactions with the host to promote productive infection. A corollary to this is that the host environment is dynamic, and Brucella has evolved mechanisms to cope with changing environments. In an effort to understand the contribution of Brucella LPS to virulence and pathogenesis, the function of a metabolic locus important in the synthesis of LPS has been demonstrated and complemented. The spontaneous loss of LPS expression has been characterized. Contribution of LPS to acquisition of the host environment in tissue culture and mouse models has been explored. This work demonstrated that genes outside the O-antigen biosynthesis ( manBA) cluster contribute to LPS biosynthesis. Further high frequency mutation involving manBA is partly responsible for observed dissociation of Brucella strains. Finally, work herein attempts to look at the role of LPS in acquisition of the host environment and shows that LPS is important for recruiting particular cell populations within a host model of brucellosis.

There is a growing appreciation for the insight mathematical models can yield on biological systems. In particular, due to the challenges inherent in experimental observation of disease progression, models describing the genesis, growth and evolution of cancer have been developed. Many of these models possess the common feature that one particular type of cellular population initiates a further, distinct population. This thesis explores two models containing this feature, which also employ branching processes to describe population growth. Firstly, we consider a deterministically growing wild type population which seeds stochastically developing mutant clones. This generalises the classic Luria- Delbruck model of bacterial evolution. We focus on how differing wild type growth manifests itself in the distribution of clone sizes. In our main result we prove that for a large class of wild type growth, the long-time limit of the clone size distribution has a general two-parameter form, whose tail decays as a power-law. In the second model, we consider a fully stochastic system of cells in a growing population that can undergo birth, death and transitions. New cellular types appear via transitions, examples of which are genetic mutations or migrations bringing cells into a new environment. We concentrate on the scenario where the original cell type has the largest net growth rate, which is relevant for modelling drug resistance, due to fitness costs of resistance, or cells migrating into contact with a toxin. Two questions are considered in our main results. First, how long do we wait until a cell with a specific target type, an arbitrary number of transitions from the original population, exists. Second, which particular sequence of transitions initiated the target population. In the limit of small final transition rates, simple, explicit formulas are given to answer these questions.

A presente pesquisa, de natureza conceitual, procurou compreender a obra de A. R. Luria (1902-1977) como determinada pela concretude de seu contexto histórico, isto é, a Rússia pós-revolucionária como marco inicial de seus estudos e pesquisas e, posteriormente, a União Soviética sob o regime stalinista. Para isso, foi realizada uma extensiva pesquisa das publicações deste autor, evidenciando a crescente sistematização dos conceitos e método para a compreensão da constituição da consciência humana, tomando-se por base seus fundamentos filosóficos e epistemológicos. Os estudos de Luria foram organizados por etapas - antes de Vigotski, em conjunto com ele e após sua morte - devido ao aparente redirecionamento dado às suas pesquisas, durante o stalinismo, que o fez concentrar-se mais na área da neuropsicologia. Observou-se que suas obras mais conhecidas no Ocidente quando desligadas de seus fundamentos marxistas, vêm dando base a apropriações indevidas de seus conceitos e associações a autores cuja base epistemológica é contrária. Entende-se que apenas o resgate da obra luriana em seu conjunto, bem como de seus fundamentos marxistas possibilita compreender o funcionamento cerebral como materialização das funções psicológicas superiores, de origem cultural, opondo-se ao reducionismo biológico ou subjetivo, hegemônico na atualidade. Para esta empreita, foi demonstrado que Luria deu continuidade aos pressupostos vigotskianos em suas pesquisas sobre o funcionamento cerebral e suas patologias, a despeito do acirramento do stalinismo na União Soviética após a morte de Vigotski, em 1934, superando a compreensão do homem como mais uma espécie sujeita, em seu desenvolvimento, às condições de maturação de seu organismo biológico, e, portanto, limitada por tais condições que independem de aspectos sócio-culturais, em direção a uma...
The present research, of conceptual nature, aimed at understanding the work of A. R. Luria (1902 - 1977) as determined by the concreteness of its historical context, i.e., the postrevolutionary Russia as the initial mark for his studies and research and, subsequently, the Soviet Union under Stalinist regime. In order to do so, extensive research was done into this author s publications, evidencing the increasing systematization of concepts and method for the understanding of how the human conscience is constituted, having its philosophical and epistemological foundations as basis. Luria s studies were organized in stages - before Vigotski, along with him and after his death - due to the apparent redirection given to his research, during Stalinism, which made him focus more on the neuropsychological area. It was observed that his most renowned pieces in the West when disconnected of its Marxist foundations have been giving basis to improper appropriations of its concepts and associations to authors whose epistemological basis is contrary. It is understood that only the rescue of Luria s work in its whole, as well as its Marxist foundations, enables the understanding of the brain work as materialization of the superior psychological functions, of cultural origin, opposing to the biological or subjective reductionism, presently hegemonic. For this purpose, it was demonstrated that Luria continued with the Vigotskian postulations in his research on the brain work and its pathologies, despite the incitement of Stalinism in the Soviet Union after Vigotski's death in 1934, overcoming the comprehension of the human being as one more species subject, in its development, to the conditions of maturation in its biological organism, and, therefore, limited by such conditions which prevent the social-cultural aspects, towards a new way of understanding human... La these se veut pour but de mettre en lumiere l'originalite de rabbi yaacov abihserah. La premiere partie retrace l'historique des grands courants de la cabale et permet de situer la mouvance d'idees dans laquelle evolue l'auteur, dans la lignee de rabbi ishaq luria. La seconde partie montre la specificite des techniques d'hermeneutiques utilisees par l'auteur qui manie les methodes cabalistiques de la guematria et du notarigon. La troisieme partie determine les grandes idees de la cabale abordees par le commentateur qui insiste sur le processus eschatologique de redressement de la presence divine. Le dernier pan de la these enumere les principaux themes ethiques de la pensee de l'auteur dont l'ideal de justice et charite constitue le fil conducteur. On peut remarquer que l'exegese de l'auteur le situe dans le courant de la pensee hassidique avec une coloration orientale qui le place parmi les grands maitres de la cabale et du hassidisme sepharade
The aim of the thesis is to reveal the originality of rabbi yaacov abihserah. The first part retraces the main currents of the kabbalah and defines the sphere of influence within which he was active, following the tradition of rabbin isaac louria. The second part examines the specificity of the commentator's hermenentical method and his use of kabbalistic techniques such as "guematria" ans "notarigon" the third part presents the major ideas of the kabbalah treated by rabbi yaacov abihserah with the emphasis falling on the eschaatalogical process of the restoration of the divine presence. The las part of the thesis enumerates the leading ethical themes of the expositor's thought, which is permeated throughout with an ideal of justice and charity. Rabbi yaacov abihserah's exegetical work places him in the mainstream of chassidic thought, albeit with oriental overtones, and thus ranks him among the great masters of the kabbalah and sephardic chassidism

With the increased volume of commercial content online, some news sites have adopted so-called native advertising on their websites to convey marketing messages more discreetly. As an increased share of advertising budgets is spent on this form of advertising this essay aims to examine its news consumer’s attitudes towards the phenomenon. The research was carried out through a qualitative study where news consumers discussed their attitudes in two separate focus groups. This was analyzed with the help of the previous studies Advertisement - an uninvited guest? and Banner Blindness as well as theories including theory of science hermeneutics, reception analysis, convergence culture, brand schema, advertising schema and ad- brand attitude.The results show that in most cases native advertising is met with indifferent attitudes but in some cases also confusion, which could lead to negative attitudes towards the ad and the news site. The respondents mostly had a scientism towards native ads but because they don´t intend to pay for their news their attitudes are more indifferent than negative. However most of the respondents experienced a so called third-person effect which means that they think they’re not affected by ads, but others are. They say that their generation is the hardest group to fool. Thus this thesis concludes that the most favorable ads were technology- and channel driven, which is a form of semi native ads. This is making it a little less native and more recognizable as a commercial message

Idag möter investerare information från både traditionella medier och offentliga rapporter, men även genom sociala medier. I en rapport av Internetstiftelsen (u.å.) framgår det att 96 procent av Sveriges befolkning använder sig av internet, och att av dessa är 93 procent dagligen uppkopplade (Internetstiftelsen, u.å.). Av dessa använder sig nio av tio personer sociala medier och det framgår att sociala medier nu är en naturlig del av individens vardag. Det finns omfattande studier som undersöker sociala medier och aktiemarknaden för att se om det finns ett samband mellan informationsspridningen på sociala medier och dess påverkan på aktiekursen. Som investerare är det den tillgängliga informationen som är underlaget för beslutet att investera eller inte. Ohlin (2017) rapporterar att det förekommer alltmer falska aktietips inom sociala plattformar. Ekobrottsmyndigheten ser ett ökande antal anmälningar av denna typ av brott. Två ekonomistudenter dömdes den 15:e oktober 2019 av Stockholms tingsrätt för otillbörlig marknadspåverkan, där det framgick att de båda hade systematiskt påverkat aktiekurserna till att stiga. Till följd av det intresse som finns för hur aktiekursen påverkas av sociala medier, är det av värde att förstå hur dessa köprekommendationer och möjligen falska aktietips inom sociala medier påverkar den individuella investerarens beslutsfattande. Det finns flertalet forskare inom finansområdet som uppmuntrar till att använda mer kvalitativa metoder i samband med ämnet beteendeekonomi (Jaiyeoba & Haron, 2016; Kaczynski et al., 2013; Kleinübing et al., 2005; Zahera & Bensal, 2017). Genom att undersöka vad människor faktiskt säger och få ta del av resonemanget bakom samtal, kan finansområdet utvecklas. Den aktuella studien lutar sig därmed mot en kvalitativ ansats, med syftet att få en djupare förståelse för hur den individuella investerarens beslutsfattande påverkas av köprekommendationer inom sociala medier. I samband med analys av empiri har studien använt sig av deduktiv tematisk analys, där ursprungliga teman har varit drivande. Dessa är representativitet, förankring och kognitiv dissonans som återkopplas från Chandra (2008), och är viktiga beståndsdelar i den individuella investerarens beslutsfattandeprocess och etablerade begrepp inom beteendevetenskaplig ekonomi. Till följd av analys av empiri kunde det urskiljas relevanta underliggande teman till de tidigare presenterade, och dessa är: Köprekommendationer som en ögonöppnare, Skepsis angående sociala medier och köprekommendationer, Vem är bakomköprekommendationer, Bekräftelse av egen värdering, Osäkerhet vid motgång och avslutningsvis Självsäkerhet är bästa försvar. Genom dessa underliggande teman besvaras både studiens forskningsfråga samt att syftet uppnås och en djupare förståelse erhålls för hur köprekommendationer inom sociala medier påverkar den individuella investerarens beslutsfattande.

Les modèles de mutations décrivent le processus d’apparitions rares et aléatoires de mutations au cours de lacroissance d’une population de cellules. Les échantillons obtenus sont constitués de nombres finaux de cellules mutantes,qui peuvent être couplés avec des nombres totaux de cellules ou un nombre moyen de cellules en fin d’expérience.La loi du nombre final de mutantes est une loi à queue lourde : de grands décomptes, appelés “jackpots”,apparaissent fréquemment dans les données.Une construction générale des modèles se décompose en troisniveaux. Le premier niveau est l’apparition de mutations aléatoires au cours d’un processus de croissance de population.En pratique, les divisions cellulaires sont très nombreuses, et la probabilité qu’une de ces divisions conduise à une mutation est faible,ce qui justifie une approximation poissonnienne pour le nombre de mutations survenant pendant un temps d’observation donné.Le second niveau est celui des durées de développement des clones issus de cellules mutantes. Du fait de la croissance exponentielle,la majeure partie des mutations ont lieu à la fin du processus, et les durées de développement sont alors indépendanteset exponentiellement distribuées. Le troisième niveau concerne le nombre decellules qu’un clone issu d’une cellule mutante atteint pendant une durée de développement donnée.La loi de ce nombre dépend principalement de la loi des instants de division des mutantes.Le modèle classique, dit de Luria-Delbrück, suppose que les développements cellulaires des cellules normales aussi bien que mutantess’effectue selon un processus de Yule. On peut dans ce cas calculer expliciter la loi du nombre final de mutantes.Elle dépend de deux paramètres, qui sont le nombre moyen de mutations et le paramètre de fitness (ratio des taux de croissance des deux types de cellules).Le problème statistique consiste à estimer ces deux paramètres au vu d’un échantillon denombres finaux de mutantes. Il peut être résolu par maximisation de la vraisemblance,ou bien par une méthode basée sur la fonction génératrice. Diviser l'estimation du nombre moyen de mutations par le nombre total de cellulespermet alors d'estimer la probabilité d’apparition d’une mutation au cours d’une division cellulaire.L’estimation de cette probabilité est d’une importancecruciale dans plusieurs domaines de la médecine et debiologie: rechute de cancer, résistance aux antibiotiques de Mycobacterium Tuberculosis, etc.La difficulté provient de ce que les hypothèses de modélisation sous lesquelles la distribution du nombre final de mutants est explicitesont irréalistes.Or estimer les paramètres d’un modèle quand la réalité en suit un autre conduit nécessairement à un biais d’estimation.Il est donc nécessaire de disposer de méthodes d’estimation robustes pour lesquelles le biais, en particulier sur la probabilité de mutation,reste le moins sensible possible aux hypothèses de modélisation.Cette thèse contient une étude probabiliste et statistique de modèles de mutations prenant en compte les sources de biais suivantes : durées de vie non exponentielles, morts cellulaires,variabilité du nombre final de cellules, durées de vie non-exponentielles et non-identiquement distribuées, dilution de la population initiale.Des études par simulation des méthodes considérées sont effectuées afin de proposer, selon les caractéristiques du modèle,l’estimation la plus fiable possible. Ces méthodes ont également été appliquées à desjeux de données réelles, afin de comparer les résultats avec les estimations obtenues avec les modèles classiques.Un package R a été implémenté en collaboration avec Rémy Drouilhet et Stéphane Despréaux et est disponible sur le CRAN.Ce package est constitué des différents résultats obtenus au cours de ce travail. Il contient des fonctions dédiées aux modèles de mutations,ainsi qu'à l'estimation des paramètres. Les applications ont été développées pour le Labex TOUCAN (Toulouse Cancer)
Mutation models are probabilistic descriptions of the growth of a population of cells, where mutationsoccur randomly during the process. Data are samples of integers, interpreted as final numbers ofmutant cells. These numbers may be coupled with final numbers of cells (mutant and non mutant) or a mean final number of cells.The frequent appearance in the data of very large mutant counts, usually called “jackpots”, evidencesheavy-tailed probability distributions.Any mutation model can be interpreted as the result of three ingredients. The first ingredient is about the number of mutations occuring with small probabilityamong a large number of cell divisions. Due to the law of small numbers, the number of mutations approximately follows aPoisson distribution. The second ingredient models the developing duration of the clone stemming from each mutation. Due to exponentialgrowth, most mutations occur close to the end of the experiment. Thus the developing time of arandom clone has exponential distribution. The last ingredients represents the number of mutant cells that any clone developing for a given time will produce. Thedistribution of this number depends mainly on the distribution of division times of mutants.One of the most used mutation model is the Luria-Delbrück model.In these model, division times of mutant cells were supposed to be exponentially distributed.Thus a clone develops according to a Yule process and its size at any given time follows a geometric distribution.This approach leads to a family of probability distributions which depend on the expected number of mutations and the relative fitness, which is the ratio between the growth rate of normal cells to that of mutants.The statistic purpose of these models is the estimation of these parameters. The probability for amutant cell to appear upon any given cell division is estimated dividing the mean number of mutations by the mean final number of cells.Given samples of final mutant counts, it is possible to build estimators maximizing the likelihood, or usingprobability generating function.Computing robust estimates is of crucial importance in medical applications, like cancer tumor relapse or multidrug resistance of Mycobacterium Tuberculosis for instance.The problem with classical mutation models, is that they are based on quite unrealistic assumptions: constant final number of cells,no cell deaths, exponential distribution of lifetimes, or time homogeneity. Using a model for estimation, when thedata have been generated by another one, necessarily induces a bias on estimates.Several sources of bias has been partially dealed until now: non-exponential lifetimes, cell deaths, fluctuations of the final count of cells,dependence of the lifetimes, plating efficiency. The time homogeneity remains untreated.This thesis contains probabilistic and statistic study of mutation models taking into account the following bias sources:non-exponential and non-identical lifetimes, cell deaths, fluctuations of the final count of cells, plating efficiency.Simulation studies has been performed in order to propose robust estimation methods, whatever the modeling assumptions.The methods have also been applied to real data sets, to compare the results with the estimates obtained under classical models.An R package based on the different results obtained in this work has been implemented (joint work with Rémy Drouilhetand Stéphane Despréaux) and is available on the CRAN. It includes functions dedicated to the mutation models and parameter estimation.The applications have been developed for the Labex TOUCAN (Toulouse Cancer)

Den 18 mars 2013 meddelar den folkkära artisten Tommy Nilsson att han byter namn till Black och  väljer en mörkare och hårdare image. Reaktionerna låter inte vänta på sig och under dagen går nyheten varm i svensk media. Senare ska det visa sig att det hela bara handlar om en PR-kampanj med syfte att marknadsföra chokladjätten Marabous nya chokladkaka med smak av saltlakrits. Tidigare forskning har visat på hur den här typen av PR-utövande, som ämnar vilseleda sin publik, riskerar att skada förtroendet för såväl företag, som journalister och PR-utövare. Genom en kritisk diskursanalys undersöker den här studien debatten som uppkommer som en reaktion på den här typen av PR-utövande, med hjälp av den specifika kampanjen Black. Genom tio argumenterande/debatterande texter på såväl nyhetsplattformar som bloggar undersöks argument, uppfattningar och förslag på konsekvenser. För att bättre förstå den profession som debatten berör tas centrala teorier om den relativt outforskade PR-branschen upp. En central del i studien inom såväl tidigare forskning som teori är hur det nya medieklimatet-/samhället har en betydande roll när den här typen av marknadsföring får allt större plats i nyhetsflödet. Resultatet visar att majoriteten av deltagarna i debatten ställer sig kritiska till det här sättet att marknadsföra produkter/tjänster på. Det argumenteras genomgående för hur den här metoden kan anses bra i den mån den bidrar till mycket uppmärksamhet och stor spridning på kort sikt. Men att problematiken ligger i att PR bör handla om att hjälpa företag och organisationer att förbättra deras anseende/varumärke. Genom att vilseleda journalister och mediepubliken riskerar man istället att skada förtroendet på lång sikt. I undersökningen har det framkommit att åsikter och uppfattningar inte skiljer sig beroende på vilken bakgrund/anknytning som skribenten har. Såväl journalister som yrkesverksamma inom reklam-/marknadsföringsbranschen erkänner ett ogillande gentemot metoden. Det visar sig även att det finns avvikande åsikter som skiljer från den negativa uppfattningen, dessa röster beskriver kampanjmetoden som harmlös, nytänkande och rolig.

This study aims to explain the phenomenon of fear of crime among students at the Linnaeus University campus area in Växjö. More precisely, the study deals with social trust between people, and the connection between trust and the fear of being subjected to crime. In recurrent national surveys, the results have shown that about one-third of the population in Sweden is largely concerned about being subjected to crime. Our hypothesis is that low interpersonal trust and low trust in social institutions creates anxiety and fear of it’s and society's well-being, which increases the fear of being subjected to crime. In multiple linear regression analyzes, we investigate whether there is any connection between trust and fear of being subjected to crime. The results are analyzed with the help of Anthony Giddens and Ulrich Beck and compared with results generated in previous research. The main result shows that connections exist, but it is not so strong and further studies are required in the area. The respondents feel confident in people in general, and rely on the institutions of society, but at the same time are concerned about everyday crime, going out alone late at night in the campus area and over sexual harassment aimed at women.

Resumo: A presente pesquisa, de natureza conceitual, procurou compreender a obra de A. R. Luria (1902-1977) como determinada pela concretude de seu contexto histórico, isto é, a Rússia pós-revolucionária como marco inicial de seus estudos e pesquisas e, posteriormente, a União Soviética sob o regime stalinista. Para isso, foi realizada uma extensiva pesquisa das publicações deste autor, evidenciando a crescente sistematização dos conceitos e método para a compreensão da constituição da consciência humana, tomando-se por base seus fundamentos filosóficos e epistemológicos. Os estudos de Luria foram organizados por etapas - antes de Vigotski, em conjunto com ele e após sua morte - devido ao aparente redirecionamento dado às suas pesquisas, durante o stalinismo, que o fez concentrar-se mais na área da neuropsicologia. Observou-se que suas obras mais conhecidas no Ocidente quando desligadas de seus fundamentos marxistas, vêm dando base a apropriações indevidas de seus conceitos e associações a autores cuja base epistemológica é contrária. Entende-se que apenas o resgate da obra luriana em seu conjunto, bem como de seus fundamentos marxistas possibilita compreender o funcionamento cerebral como materialização das funções psicológicas superiores, de origem cultural, opondo-se ao reducionismo biológico ou subjetivo, hegemônico na atualidade. Para esta empreita, foi demonstrado que Luria deu continuidade aos pressupostos vigotskianos em suas pesquisas sobre o funcionamento cerebral e suas patologias, a despeito do acirramento do "stalinismo" na União Soviética após a morte de Vigotski, em 1934, superando a compreensão do homem como mais uma espécie sujeita, em seu desenvolvimento, às condições de maturação de seu organismo biológico, e, portanto, limitada por tais condições que independem de aspectos sócio-culturais, em direção a uma... Abstract: The present research, of conceptual nature, aimed at understanding the work of A. R. Luria (1902 - 1977) as determined by the concreteness of its historical context, i.e., the postrevolutionary Russia as the initial mark for his studies and research and, subsequently, the Soviet Union under Stalinist regime. In order to do so, extensive research was done into this author’s publications, evidencing the increasing systematization of concepts and method for the understanding of how the human conscience is constituted, having its philosophical and epistemological foundations as basis. Luria’s studies were organized in stages - before Vigotski, along with him and after his death - due to the apparent redirection given to his research, during Stalinism, which made him focus more on the neuropsychological area. It was observed that his most renowned pieces in the West when disconnected of its Marxist foundations have been giving basis to improper appropriations of its concepts and associations to authors whose epistemological basis is contrary. It is understood that only the rescue of Luria’s work in its whole, as well as its Marxist foundations, enables the understanding of the brain work as materialization of the superior psychological functions, of cultural origin, opposing to the biological or subjective reductionism, presently hegemonic. For this purpose, it was demonstrated that Luria continued with the Vigotskian postulations in his research on the brain work and its pathologies, despite the incitement of "Stalinism" in the Soviet Union after Vigotski's death in 1934, overcoming the comprehension of the human being as one more species subject, in its development, to the conditions of maturation in its biological organism, and, therefore, limited by such conditions which prevent the social-cultural aspects, towards a new way of understanding human... In 2017, the Swedish government decided to implement digitalization in schools nationwide. The idea was that the school's digitalization would provide an opportunity to increase students' digital competence, knowledge development and equivalence. The iPad is a relatively new digital tool that is used in schools to a large extent. The purpose of the study is to investigate how teachers use the iPad in Swedish teaching to develop students' reading and writing skills in preschool. What advantages and disadvantages do they see with the iPad as a technical aid, and is there enough knowledge and research to evaluate the use of iPads in teaching?  The results of the study are based on a research and literature review linked to qualitative semi-structured interviews with teachers. The study shows that the iPad can contribute to students becoming more engaged and increase collaboration between students. The iPad can act as a motivation booster in reading and writing development which previous research confirms. It is important to use the iPad with an intended purpose, in order to gain a positive effect. In order to get the best possible effect it is important that schools map the use and ensure that teachers have adequate premises.
2017 beslutade Sveriges regering att en nationell digitalisering skulle äga rum inom skolan. Målet med beslutet var att skolans digitalisering skulle ge möjlighet till att öka elevernas digitala kompetens, kunskapsutveckling och likvärdighet. Ipad är ett relativt nytt digitalt verktyg i skolverksamheten som generellt används i stor utsträckning. Syftet med studien är att undersöka hur lärare använder sig av iPad i sin svenskundervisning för att utveckla elevers läs- och skrivutveckling inom årskurs F till 3. Vilka för- och nackdelar ser de med iPad som tekniskt hjälpmedel, och finns det tillräckligt med kunskap och forskning för att värdera användningen av iPad i undervisningen?  Studiens resultat grundar sig i en forsknings- och litteraturgenomgång kopplad till kvalitativa semistrukturerade intervjuer med aktiva lärare. Studien visar att iPad kan bidra till att eleverna blir mer engagerade och att samarbetet mellan eleverna ökar. IPad kan agera motivationshöjare inom läs-och skrivutvecklingen och detta belyser forskningen som en viktig faktor för elevernas utveckling inom ämnet. Det är viktigt att använda iPaden på rätt sätt med uttänkt syfte för att ge rätt positiv effekt. För att få bästa möjliga effekt inom skolorna är det viktigt att skolledningen kartlägger användandet och ger lärarna rätt förutsättningar.

This study addresses the criticism leveled at A.C.T. Mathematics teachers with regard to their failure to use any other method of teaching than chalk-and-talk. By considering the changed needs of society for mathematics and the changed perceptions by society of education, the criticism is placed in context. The importance of spatial ability for mathematics is examined in the context of theories of cognitive abilities and its current under utilization within the classroom. On the basis of the increased need to utilize more talent the study was designed to operationalise in the classroom the constructs of simultaneous and successive synthesis, derived from Luria's model of brain functioning. The question of gender differences in mathematics achievment and spatial ability is addressed. The possible role of the maturation of language in determining differences in the acquistion of ability to form simultaneous synthesis is briefly discussed. The study was designed to utilize and enhance simultaneous synthesis. By demonstrating an Aptitude-Treatment Interaction it was intended to confirm that students, who function at a high level in simultaneous synthesis but at a low level in successive synthesis, would achieve more with experience with spatial activates than in a more traditional chalk-and-talk classroom. Gender differences in achievement were not found. Gender differences in successive/simultaneous profiles were found in accordance with theory predictions. The need for the duration of longer treatment periods is briefly discussed in the context of funding and the appearance of greater efficiency of traditional teaching methods when the students are functioning at the highest level of symbolic thought.

Resumo: O objetivo central deste estudo refere-se a investigar os procedimentos matemáticos expressos oralmente pelos alunos na resolução de um problema de multiplicação, quando se busca o registro desses procedimentos pela escrita matemática aceita escolar e socialmente. Para abordar a questão investigativa: como acontece a passagem dos procedimentos de cálculo mental à escrita matemática, passando pela expressão oral, evidenciados na resolução de um problema referente a multiplicação na alfabetização de jovens e adultos? optamos por uma análise qualitativa dos dados produzidos.O trabalho de campo foi realizado com alunos de uma classe de alfabetização de jovens e adultos. O estudo apresenta a descrição dos encontros ocorridos no desenvolvimento das atividades do trabalho de campo, os diálogos em sala de aula e as produções dos alunos. O material alvo de análise consistiu dos registros do diário de campo da pesquisadora e dos registros produzidos pelos alunos, sendo analisado em três categorias: ¿ Procedimentos aditivos e procedimentos multiplicativos; ¿ A expressão oral de procedimentos e a produção de conhecimento matemático; ¿ A valorização do algoritmo escolar da multiplicação. Com as análises surgiram considerações que destacamos: a busca pela apropriação do algoritmo escolar da multiplicação por esses jovens e adultos como ato emancipador e conquista de autonomia; o papel da linguagem na apropriação desse conhecimento e o exercício da capacidade humana de ir além da experiência sensorial dando o salto rumo ao conhecimento racional
Abstract: The main objective of this study refers to investigate the mathematical procedure verbally expressed by the pupils in the resolution of a multiplication problem, when the register of theses procedures for the mathematical writing are accepted pertaining to school and socially. To approach the investigative question: how the pass of the procedures of mental calculate to mathematical writing happens, passing by the verbal expression, evidenced in a resolution of a problem referring to multiplication in the education of a young and adult people? We opt to nake a qualitative analysis of carried through with pupils of a young and adults education classroom. The study shows the description of the meetings accured during the activities of the work field, the dialogues in the classroom and the productions of the pupils. The material of analysis consisted of the registers of field of the researcher and the registers produced by the pupils, being analyzed in three categories: ¿ Aditives and multiplicatives procedures; ¿ The verbal expression of procedures and the production of mathematical knowledge; ¿ The valuation of school algorithm of multiplication. With the analyses, considerations had appeared we want to detach: the search for the school algorithm of multiplication appropriation by these youngs and adults as emancipate act and autonomy conquest; the language importance in the appropriation of this knowledge and the exercise of human capacity being to go beyond the sensorial experience giving the jump joing to the rational knowledge

American Reform Judaism currently associates the Kabalistic term, tikkun olam, with one of its core principles, social justice. This association is relatively new, dating roughly to the 1950s. The appropriation of a Kabbalistic term by American Reform Judaism is unusual given the historical animosity of American Reform Judaism toward the Kabbalah. The purpose of this thesis to explain this appropriation by contextualizing the use of tikkun olam within American Reform Judaism. The method through which this will be accomplished is the analysis of official documents, journal articles and theological discussions found within the American Reform movement. The thesis concludes that American Reform Judaism chose to appropriate tikkun olam and associate it with social justice in order to locate social justice in a historically Jewish context. This reworking of the concept of social justice to place it within a specifically Jewish frame work reflects the theological shift which occurs in reaction to the Holocaust, fears over Jewish assimilation and other social factors taking place during the 1940s and 1950s.

O impacto preciso das malformacoes do corpo caloso (CC) no desenvolvimento das funcoes cognitivas e no comportamento e dificil de definir, ja que sua expressao clinica e muito variavel. O objetivo deste projeto de pesquisa foi contribuir para a melhor compreensao do impacto das malformacoes do CC sobre o desenvolvimento das funcoes cognitivas e comportamentais, por meio de um estudo clinico descritivo. Participaram deste estudo, 16 individuos, de ambos os sexos e entre 6 e 18 anos de idade, diagnosticados com malformacoes do CC, encaminhados para o ambulatorio de neuroplasticidade do NANI/CPN. Foram realizadas avaliacao das funcoes cognitivas e comportamentais e o desempenho nos testes foi comparado a normas por idade. Considerando tipo de malformacao, agenesia total do corpo caloso (ACC) foi identificada em 7 casos, sendo dois associados a Sindrome Alcoolica Fetal (SAF), agenesia parcial do corpo caloso (ACCP) em 7 e hipoplasia do corpo caloso (HCC) em dois. Desempenho intelectual compativel a idade foi detectado em 7 participantes (3 casos de ACC nao associados a SAF e 2 casos com HCC) e 56% da amostra apresentou defiCiência intelectual. O impacto dessas alteracoes cerebrais sobre o desenvolvimento cognitivo e comportamental foi menos grave nos participantes com ACC e HCC em comparacao aos individuos com ACCP. Presenca de ACC associada a sindrome alcoolica fetal esteve associada aos efeitos mais deleterios sobre o desenvolvimento. O maior prejuizo no grupo como um todo envolveu habilidades visoconstrutivas e, na esfera comportamental, a socializacao. As observacoes neurocomportamentais sugerem perfil semelhante ao do transtorno de aprendizagem nao-verbal e foram compativeis a Sindrome da Agenesia Primaria do Corpo Caloso, com a ressalva da grande variabilidade dos casos

I läraryrket kommer vi enligt styrdokumenten oavsett om vi arbetar inom förskola eller skola ha som uppdrag att utveckla barns språk. Uppsatsens syfte var att undersöka vilken uppfattning lärare har om barns språkutveckling och vilka erfarenheter de menar att barn behöver för att lära sig läsa och skriva samt vad de grundar sina uppfattningar på. Valt fokus var barn i förskolan och grundskolans första år. I litteraturen tas lärandeteorier samt språkutvecklingen fram till barnets läs- och skrivlärande upp. Studien omfattar semistrukturerade intervjuer med tio lärare som arbetar på förskolor och i grundskolans tidigare år.

Studien visade att majoriteten av lärarna talar om språkutveckling som något som sker i samspel med omgivningen genom en varierad vardagsanvändning. Respondenterna var medvetna om sin betydelsefulla roll i barns språkutveckling samt att språkstimulering bör ske tidigt utifrån barns olika erfarenheter och hemförhållanden. En positiv språklig miljö, föräldrars engagemang, ha en allmän språkförmåga, förstå betydelsen av att läsa och skriva, känna meningsfullhet samt att uppleva sig själv som läsare och skrivare i samspel är viktiga faktorer för att barnet inte ska tappa motivation och självförtroende under läs- och skrivlärandet. Lärarna i undersökningen verkade överlag ha svårt att tydliggöra en teoretisk grund som låg bakom deras synsätt.

Under tio veckor har jag arbetat med skapandet av kollektionen Blandband. Utgångspunkten var ränder och lura ögat. Jag ville undersöka vad som utgör en rand och hur en tredimensionell rand ser ut. Redan i början av arbetet satte jag en färgskala bestående av dels kulörta, starka färger och dels två nyanser av grått samt svart och vitt. Jag angrep arbetet med hjälp av en designmetod bestående av fem faser: Målsättning och research, Idéutveckling, Konceptutveckling, Realisering, Presentation och kommunikation. Färgpaletten, målsättning och moodboard som togs fram under första fasen fungerade tillsammans genom hela processen som en bas som jag kunnat stödja mig mot. Efter att idéer och koncept utvecklats började en kollektion ta form. I kollektionen Blandband ingår tre mönster; Samantha, Tommy och Lena, i vardera två färgställningar, dur och moll. Kollektionen är digitaltryckt på tre olika bomullskvaliteter. I den här rapporten redovisar jag mitt examensarbete Blandband i ord och bild.Throughout ten weeks I have been creating the Blandband collection. The starting point was stripes and trompe l’oeil. I wanted to explore what constitutes a stripe. In the beginning of the project I decided on a color palette containing partly of vibrant colors, and partly two shades of gray, black and white. I have used a basic design method with five phases: Research and Positioning, Concept generation, Concept development, Concept realisation, Presentation and Communication. The collection Blandband consists of three patterns: Lena, Samantha and Tommy, each pattern in two different colorways. This is the report of my bachelor thesis Blandband.

O ano de 2013 marca o 70? anivers?rio da descri??o cl?ssica de Leo Kanner sobre o Autismo. Em 1994, na quarta edi??o do Manual Diagnostico e Estat?stico de Transtornos Mentais (DSM), o autismo foi inclu?do em uma nova classe diagn?stica denominada Transtornos Globais do Desenvolvimento (TGD), os quais incluem: o Transtorno Autista, Transtorno de Rett, Transtorno Desintegrativo da Inf?ncia, Transtorno Global do Desenvolvimento sem outra especifica??o e o Transtorno de Asperger. O DSM apresenta crit?rios bem espec?ficos que diferenciam os TGD, no entanto, estudos m?dicos discutem se o Transtorno de Asperger (TA) comp?e o Transtorno Autista, ou se ? qualitativamente distinto. Discute-se a reduzida valida??o emp?rica dos crit?rios diagn?sticos concernentes ao TA. Nessa perspectiva, o DSM ganhou uma quinta e pol?mica revis?o no ano de 2013. A pol?mica mudan?a centra-se na substitui??o de uma an?lise diagn?stica categorial para uma abordagem dimensional, a qual evidencia que a maior parte dos problemas psicopatol?gicos da inf?ncia e adolesc?ncia manifesta-se em um cont?nuo de frequ?ncia e intensidade. Diante da mudan?a na quinta edi??o do DSM, o presente estudo deparou-se com a problem?tica identificada no ?mbito cl?nico e cient?fico, qual seja, a heterogeneidade sintom?tica presente no espectro autista e, por conseguinte, as disson?ncias no estabelecimento de caracter?sticas cl?nicas e neuropsicol?gicas do espectro. Amparado pelo legado te?rico de Luria, buscou-se clarificar o perfil da cogni??o social, comportamento, s?cio afetividade e fun??es executivas em crian?as com diagn?stico de Transtorno Autista e Transtorno de Asperger, conforme crit?rios estabelecidos pelo quarta edi??o revisada do DSM. Para operacionaliza??o dos objetivos propostos, prop?s-se estudo multicasos de seis crian?as. O processo avaliativo foi composto por anamnese com os pais, entrevista com a escola e protocolo avaliativo composto por tarefas qualitativas e instrumentos psicom?tricos. A avalia??o neuropsicol?gica realizada foi guiada pela an?lise cl?nica-processual, conforme pressuposto te?rico de Luria. No tocante aos resultados, foi poss?vel identificar dificuldades nos relacionamentos sociais e no cotidiano escolar das crian?as avaliadas. De modo interdependente, falhas na teoria da mente, nas fun??es executivas e na linguagem versam como principais fragilidades neuropsicol?gicas dos grupos cl?nicos vigentes, notadamente do grupo que comp?e o Transtorno Autista. Os resultados encontrados demonstram que a cogni??o social e a habilidade social est?o altamente relacionadas. Ainda que se reconhe?am as limita??es inerentes ? proposi??o de pesquisas neuropsicol?gicas de vertente cl?nica/s?cio hist?rica, acredita-se que o desenho metodol?gico possibilitou compreender caracter?sticas neuropsicol?gicas das crian?as avaliadas, sem limitar-se ? mera descri??o. This comment by a person with university degree in business and middle manager at one of the larger Swedish companies, when discussing the thesis you are about to read, without the person having reading it in advance, actually seems representative for the overall knowledge about what is really going on in the financial system today and the willingness of people question it. The knowledge you will obtain and the result you will experience after finished your reading is challenges of basic “taken for granted assumptions” of businessmen, academics or people in general within the society today, for the purpose of understanding the system and its role in society. You will experience a unique critical presentation of the financial system today, and also discover that this knowledge about the financial system is not a knowledge the majority should possess, even one of the important principles of the system might be just that the majority do not possess this knowledge.

The financial system, when the time of writing, suffer from large global problems. This thesis is examining the foundation of the system, such as the concept of money, and the forces and principles within the system. The research goes from how the system has developed historically to how it is constructed and maneuvered today. Money is described as trading tools which value is only an illusion of value for persons in the society. The financial system is further broken down into three different subsystems in order to understand the term financial system. From the perspective of the three subsystems the financial system is described as a deceiving system fooling the participants that they possess value in forms of bank notes and coins. Further the thesis shifts the focus to how the system looks today by categorizing actors and tools in the system, how state authorities is trying to maneuver the system and create a network model of the Swedish financial system, the conclusion became that no one can escape the system and do not have a chance not to enter the system, the chapter also reveals how no one really has the power to control and influence the system. Finally the thesis provides foundations for the reader to make his own opinion if the gambling within the system has been taken to long, if the financial system could be labeled as a pyramid scheme, if the system has provided more benefits than drawbacks to society and finally some speculation in consequences if the system would crash and speculation of how historians in the future would describe the present version of the financial system. But before starting reading, think about the message from the director Alan Alda:

Formålet med masterstudien var å belyse lederes refleksjoner omkring den «vanskelige» samtalen. Dette ble utforsket gjennom problemstillingen Hvilke refleksjoner ledere gjør seg om den vanskelige samtalen? Syv ledere med personal, drift- og budsjettansvar ble intervjuet om dette tema og informantene har i denne samtalen formidlet sine refleksjoner omkring det de opplever som den vanskelige samtalen. Resultatene viser at informantene har mange ulike oppfatninger av den vanskelige samtalen. Noen ledere opplever dette som utfordrerne mens andre har opparbeidet seg erfaring og reflekterer helt annerledes rundt dette. Alle er imidlertid opptatt av å bygge gode relasjoner til sine medarbeidere, noe de gjør gjennom å vise respekt og lytte til hva medarbeideren har å si. Funnene tyder på at kommunikasjon er sentralt for å bygge gode relasjoner og unngå situasjoner som vil kreve at du tar en samtale som kan bli vanskelig. Det kommer også frem at det å ta skikkelige forventningsavklaringer er kjerne punkt i forhold til at samtalene ikke trenger å bli så vanskelige. Og det er ikke i tvil om at refleksjon og erfaring vil gjøre deg tryggere i rollen som leder, noe som jeg synes kommer godt frem sett i relasjon av teorien.

Contrairement à une idée répandue, les questions légales et rituelles sont au centre des préoccupations des kabbalistes. Et, en retour, la littérature halakhique est très loin d'avoir ignoré le discours kabbalistique sur ces questions. Depuis les débuts de la kabbale, voire dans le Talmud déjà, les deux ordres de discours s'interpénétrent. Leur unité organique et la finalité messianique de leur dialectique trouve son expression la plus claire dans l'introduction du 'Ets Hayyim, principal texte de la kabbale lurianique. A la lumière des notions qui y sont exposées, et guidée par le concept de hiérohistoire emprunté à Henry Corbin, cette étude propose une relecture phénoménologique de trois points précis du rituel juif qui ont cristallisé autour d'eux l'essentiel des discussions sur les rapports entre kabbale et halakha. Il en résulte un regard nouveau sur les moteurs métahistoriques et eschatologiques de l'histoire des pratiques religieuses juives
Contrary to a well-spread notion, legal and ritual issues are an important focus of kabbalistic discourse and the halakhic literature, in turn, is far from having negleted what the kabbalists had to say. Since the historic beginnings of kabbalah, and even in the Talmud, legal and symbolic discourses interpenetrate. Their organic unity and the messianic telos of their dialectics are best articulated in the introduction to the main text of Lurianic kabbalah, 'Ets Hayyim. In the light of the notions presented therein, and following the concept of hierohistory borrowed from Henry Corbin, this study proposes a phenomenological re-reading of three precise aspects of the Jewish ritual, which have crystallized the essential discussions about the relationship between halakhah and kabbalah. The result is a new outlook on the metahistorical and eschatological motives behind the history of Jewish religious practices

Resumen
Given the emphatic rupture with the past resulting from the invasion and occupation of France by Germany in 1940, the consequent censorship of any oppositional art or writing, the usurpation of the walls by Vichy and Nazi propaganda, and the defamiliarization of the social environment caused by dislocation and occupation, how and what could an artist -- one who wished to avoid cultural collaboration -- produce? This thesis examines the works of two artists who, however secretly, executed works which took up concerns of a public nature during the Occupation. These gestures toward the growing resistance in France between retreat and liberation participated in a conspiracy of culture that arose in the period. Without public exhibition, and including a coded means of communication, these works nevertheless embodied a concern for testimony, and an opposition to propaganda -- a refusal to submit to words and acts of order. What this thesis explores is the way in which Jean Lurçat, in the rural south (a 'free' zone until the end of 1942), and Jean Dubuffet, in occupied Paris, shared an obsession with the 'wall' as a public forum, thereby reclaiming that space that had been seized by the German and Vichy authorities. They also shared a preoccupation with language as a manifestation of la vie intérieure, the preservation of the realm of individual and social liberty. Yet Lurçat and Dubuffet differed, in part the result of their respective positions vis à vis Vichy or occupied Paris, in their artistic means, in their constructions of the 'primitive', and in the types of written language included in their works. Lurçat, who had participated in the 1930's in the debates surrounding the issue of public art -- mural art, or art with a more public face than easel painting -- had begun a revival of France's ancient art of tapestry. During the war, Lurçat continued to practise this art for the wall, despite the seizure of the spaces which would receive it. Moreover, with his giant mural tapestries of the wartime period (Le Poète of 1939, L'Hallali of 1940, L'Apollinaire, Es la verdad and Liberté of 1942, Le Ciel et la Terre from 1944), Lurçat discovered a means with which to confront both Nazi and Vichy ideology. His endeavour paralleled, in themes and imagery, the efforts of French contraband and militant poetry, and he included many of these poems in his tapestries. Dubuffet, in the 1940's, took up the 'wall' and public spaces as the subjects of his series: Vues de Paris, Un Voyage en métro -- les dessous de la capitale, Messages and Les Murs, executed between 1943 and 1945. These works flowed from a subterranean, resistant current alive in the public arena and on the walls of Paris -- the underside of the world upside-down which formed the Parisian daily experience. In both cases, these artists working during the Occupation cast in their lot with the 'outlaw': for Lurçat, the rural Maquisard; for Dubuffet, the urban guerrilla. As a result these images stood as the bearers of the spirit of opposition to the Vichy and Occupation regimes governing France, and combatted the Nazi 'barbarian'. Each artist reached out to a wider public in this period, one grown sensitive to coded forms of resistance. After all, at this time even the simple act of listening to the BBC was an act of defiance, and ordinary citizens were deemed outcasts from the pays réel. In sum, the thesis examines both Dubuffet's and Lurçat's attempts to stake an obstinate claim for the wall as a space for artistic production, and traces their pursuit of the right to use their own means of expression, to speak that which was forbidden. In doing so both articulated, in the years 1940-1945, the concerns of a more general culture of resistance, one which included not only their own milieus of intellectuals, but a more widespread underground movement. This network constituted, in fact, a society within a society, a power within established powers, struggling to aright the topsy-turvy situation of the Occupation.

A presente investigação apresenta como principal objetivo, o estudo e análise de um conjunto de dimensões neuropsicológicas, nomeadamente as funções motoras, ritmo, funções táteis, funções visuais, linguagem recetiva, linguagem expressiva, escrita, leitura, aritmética, memória, processos intelectuais, em sujeitos dos 18 aos 25 anos Heterossexuais e Homossexuais através da aplicação da Bateria de Avaliação Neuropsicológica Luria-Nebraska. Pretendeu-se avaliar também as diferenças relativas ao domínio psicopatológico; idade; género e escolaridade. Para tal foram avaliados 30 sujeitos Heterossexuais e 30 sujeitos Homossexuais. Assim, os 60 indivíduos que participaram no presente estudo foram avaliados através do SCL-90, com o objetivo de rastrear a presença de sintomas psicopatológicos, e da entrevista de Luria-Nebraska, com o objetivo de recolher dados pessoais que permitissem a posterior relação com o desempenho neuropsicológico. A segunda parte consistia na aplicação da Bateria Neuropsicológica Luria-Nebraska (LNNB), que avalia o funcionamento neuropsicológico. Os resultados apontam para um melhor desempenho neuropsicológico dos Heterossexuais na maioria das escalas clínicas da LNNB quando comparados com os Homossexuais. Verificaram-se diferenças significativas quanto ao género (escalas de Aritmética e Processos Intelectuais), em que os homens obtiveram um melhor desempenho comparativamente às mulheres. Para o domínio psicopatológico e para a escolaridade as diferenças também não se revelaram significativas. Contudo acerca desta última pode-se inferir que os sujeitos com mais escolaridade apresentam melhor desempenho neuropsicológico.
This research has as main goal, the study and analysis of a neuropsychological dimension group, namely the motor function, rhythm, tactile function, visual function, receptivity language, expressive language, writing, reading, arithmetic, memory, intellectual processes, in people from 18 to 25 years old, heterosexual and homosexual through the use of the Luria-Nebraska Neuropsychological Battery. The aim was also to verify the differences concerning the psychopathological domain, age, gender and schooling. For this purpose, there were 30 Heterosexuals and 30 Homosexuals evaluated. Like this, the 60 individuals that took part in this research were evaluated through SCL-90, to understand if there were any psychopathological symptoms, and through the Luria-Nebraska interview, with the purpose to gather personal information that allow me to relate later with the neuropsychological performance. The second part consists in the use of the Luria-Nebraska Neuropsychological Battery (LNNB) that evaluates the neuropsychological working. The results show that Heterosexuals have a better neuropsychological performance than the Homosexuals, in a great part of the clinical scales. The differences were meaningful in relation to gender (Arithmetic scales and Intellectual Processes), as men had a better performance than women. For the psychopathological domain and schooling the differences weren’t meaningful. However about this last one, I realized that the people that have more schooling present better neuropsychological performance.

A presente investigação tem como objetivo o estudo e a análise de um conjunto de dimensões neuropsicológicas, designadamente as funções motoras, ritmo, funções táteis, funções visuais, linguagem recetiva, linguagem expressiva, escrita, leitura, aritmética, memória, processos intelectuais, em sujeitos dos 26 aos 72 anos numa amostra com perturbações do desenvolvimento intelectual através da aplicação da Bateria de Avaliação Neuropsicológica Luria-Nebraska. Dentro deste tópico pretendeu-se avaliar também as diferenças relativas ao domínio neuropsicopatológico; género e escolaridade. Foi também efetuada uma análise particular das escalas item a item para perceber quais os itens em que os sujeitos tiveram mais dificuldades e quais os que responderam mais facilmente. Foram avaliados 44 sujeitos com perturbação do desenvolvimento intelectual através da aplicação e cotação da Bateria Luria-Nebraska, com o objetivo principal de elaborar um relatório neuropsicológico individual, para a instituição referente ao funcionamento global de cada um dos seus clientes. Os resultados apontam que não existiram diferenças entre os géneros na resolução em qualquer das escalas da Bateria Luria-Nebraska. Contudo no domínio da escolaridade foram encontradas disparidades entre os diferentes graus de literacia, com os sujeito com mais escolaridade a obterem melhores resultados quando comparados com os demais.
The main purpose of the following investigation is to study and analyze a set of neuropsychological dimensions, such as motor functions, rhytm, touch functions, visual functions, receptive language, expressive language, writing, reading, arithmetic, memory and cognitivie processes, in individuals from 26 to 72 years old, in a sample with disruption of intellectual development, through the application of the neuropsychological Test-Battery Luria-Nebraska. In this topic we aimed to study, too, the differences related to the neuropsychopathological: gender and education. It was also conducted a specific analysis of the scales, item by item, in order to understand in which items the participants showed more difficulties and in which they contested easily. 44 persons with disruption of intellectual development were evaluated through the application of the neuropsychological Test-Battery Luria-Nebraska, and the main goal was to create an individual neuropsychological report, for the Institution, concerning the global functioning of each one of the clients. The results show that there were no statistical differences found between the genders in any of the Luria-Nebraska battery scales. However, in what relates to education, statistical differences were found between the different literacy degrees: the subjects with higher levels obtained better results, when compared with the others.

The study was planned to investigate issues relating to the Luria-Nebraska Neuropsychological Battery. The aims were to investigate the influence of age, sex and socio-economic status on performance on the Luria-Nebraska Neuropsychological Battery. A sample of forty males and forty females, stratified according to age (25-40 year olds and 50-60 year olds) and socio-economic status was selected. The results suggested that age formed a significant effect on the total and individual scale scores of the battery. There were no significant sex differences on the total score and most of the scale scores of the battery. Sex formed a significant variable on the performance on the intellectual processes and visual scales. A significant negative correlation was found between total and scale scores of the Luria-Nebraska Neuropsychological Battery and socio-economic status. The implications of these findings are discussed.

Resumen
Golden and coworkers developed the adult version of the Luria-Nebraska Neuropsychological Battery (LNNB) and a corresponding children's version (LNNB-C), suitable for children 8-12 years. The neuropsychological literature revealed much controversy about the diagnostic effectiveness of the LNNB and LNNB-C, the published methodological properties of the batteries, and the conclusiveness of the validation research. In order to come to terms with the above criticisms of the LNNB-C, this study involved revisions of the LNNB-C to produce two versions of the Manitoba Revision of the Luria Nebraska Neuropsychological Battery suitable for older children 8-12 (MLNNB-OC) and for younger children 5-7 years (MLNNB-YC). The MLNNB-YC and -OC were administered to 3 samples of school children: (a) Normal Controls (NC): N - 193, ages 5 - 12 years, grades 1 - 6, about equal numbers of boys and girls, about equal numbers at each year level, good physical and mental health, average with respect to IQ scores, school performance, and socioeconomic status. (b) Learning-Disabled Children (LD): N - 50, ages 5 - 12 years, selected on the basis of strict criteria (i.e., very poor performance in at least one subject, IQ scores 95 - 110, English as first language, no socioeconomic deprivation, good health, freedom from emotional disturbance, good vision and hearing) (c) Brain-Damaged Children (BD) : N - 28, age 5 - 12 years, selected on the basis of neurologically-documented brain damage. Children from all three samples (NC, LD, BD) were tested on the MLNNB-YC or -OC. In addition, all BD children were also tested on the Halstead-Reitan Neuropsychological Test Battery for Children (HRNTB-C). Thereafter, the HRNTB-C was administered to 28 LD children selected to match the BD children for age and sex. The NC sample was used to develop a new scoring system for the MLNNB-YC and -OC. The raw scores of the 149 MLNNB-YC or -OC items were converted into 0-1-2 Scores indicating adequate, borderline, or inadequate performance. This conversion is "absolute" in that a child's 0-1-2 Score depends on the adequacy of the child's performance independent of the child's age. The items of each of the 11 MLNNB-YC or -OC scales were then totalled and averaged to produce Scale Scores. The means and standard deviations of Scale Scores of each age level (e.g., 8-year old) were then used to calculate T-Scores appropriate for this age level. T-Scores >80 (3 standard deviations worse than the mean of normal children) were taken as indicative of impared performance. Alexandria Luria's approach to neuropsychological assessment and his theory of brain functioning have been exploited in order to develop a neuropsychological evaluation procedure for children which incorporates a conceptualization of brain-behaviour development. Luria's Neuropsychological Investigation for adults was administered to intact children aged eight to 14 years in order to ascertain which tasks were beyond their capabilities. These were then adapted or deleted. The adapted version of the protocol was then administered to a second group of intact children to determine that the proposed adaptations were appropriate. This process was guided by the results of a statistical analysis which revealed significant findings with respect to age, socioeconomic status, and task performance. A model of brain-behaviour development and interpretive protocol were devised. Together these provide a conceptual and interpretive framework for the battery. Developmental trends which emerged whilst developing Luria's Neuropsychological Investigation for Children (LNI-C) were consistent with the progressive development of successively more complex forms of information processing as depicted in this model. They were also in keeping with prominent developmental theories such as those of Piaget and Vygotsky. These trends revealed that children made most mistakes on adult LNI tasks involving abstract reasoning, the simultaneous synthesis of data, and complex goal-directed behaviour - all of which apparently reflect tertiary cortical zone functioning. Fewer mistakes were related to a lack of training and inability to process the same quantity of information as adults - difficulties which seemed related to secondary zone functioning. None of the mistakes made appeared to reflect subcortical or primary zone functioning. The LNI-C was applied to brain-damaged children who had had a CT scan in order to demonstrate its application and the hypothetico-deductive process of interpreting findings using the concepts of syndrome analysis and double dissociation. The LNI-C findings were consistent with the general pattern of symptoms Luria described for different brain disorders and lesion localities in children, although additional insight into the nature of the sequelae present was gained in each case. In early brain damage, the most frequent disturbances were a disruption in the role played by executive functions and the ability to process data simultaneously - both of which are associated with the tertiary zones of the brain. Furthermore, these disturbances appeared to be important factors underlying disturbances to language and educationally acquired skills. The qualitative, process-orientated nature of the LNI-C proved effective for identifying the factors underlying disturbances described in paramedical reports. These seemed to be the linchpins on which retraining should focus. It was argued that the CT scan was limited in its ability to identify the type of diffuse and/or multifocal brain pathology frequently found in children. The usefulness of the model of brain-behaviour ontogeny and interpretive protocol for diagnosis, understanding and predicting the developmental consequences of childhood brain pathology was demonstrated on the basis of nine brain disorders. Finally, areas of future research were highlighted by the study.
