The article raises the question of the originality of S.Ya. Marshak's translation lyricism. Some critics were convinced that, as a children's writer, Marshak could not be a lyricist at all. However, M.L. Gasparov wrote about Marshak's lyrics, which he recognized, paradoxically defining it as impersonal. E.G. Etkind was confident in the lyricism of the writer's translation preferences. Summarizing and developing these ideas, the author of the article analyzes Marshak's translation lyricism, embodied in the principles of his historical and philological modernization of Shakespeare's sonnets.
