At the feto-maternal interface, trophoblast cells express membrane bound receptors; their modulation plays a vital role in achieving immune recognition and self-tolerance needed for pregnancy to develop. Trophoblasts exhibit selective expression of the HLA class la (HLA-C) and Ib (HLA-G, -E, -F) antigens and are also able to recognise pathogen associated molecular patterns (P AMPs) through TLRs. The role of these later molecules in pregnancy is not fully understood, it is likely they form the first line of defence against infection. The hypothesis derived from the above is that some selectivel

Abstract : Activation of the antigen presentation mechanisms by cancer cells is one of the main pathways used by the immune system for tumor detection and suppression. Induction of the expression of molecules of the Major Histocompatibility complex class II (MHC-II) by the interferon- (IFN) is important for the efficient presentation of tumor antigens. Nevertheless, it has been observed that expression of these molecules is supressed in tissular contexts where the concentration of estradiol (E2) is high. In this work we attempted to explain if the down-regulation exerted by estradiol on th

Several adjacent origins fire synchronously to replicate large sections of a chromosome at specific times. Early studies identified a relationship between cytogenetic bands and replication timing: GC-rich R-bands replicate early while AT-rich and gene poor G-bands replicate late, apparently regardless of differentiation and developmental status.
