Texto completoGambling for money is common for people in our society. Problem gambling is a public health problem and the group of young men aged 18-24 years has the highest growth. According to scientific studies, the major risk factors for developing pathological gambling are availability, early game debut, age, gender, ethnicity, cognitive disorders, alcohol abuse and mental illness. The aim of this study is to examine what makes an individual fall into a pathological gambling and what constitutes the turning point in the process of quitting gambling. Methodology and approach: we have used qualitative methodology, in which semi-structured interviews were carried out among seven men trying to cope with their pathological gambling, living in areas close to Malmö and Gothenburg. The result: The factors that are crucial for developing a pathological gambling, according to the informants in this study, are: social acceptance of gambling, availability, low self-esteem and other kinds of abuse (mostly alcohol abuse). Factors that are crucial in the process to stop the pathological gambling are an inner conviction about wanting to quit gambling and social support. The most important strategies in preventing pathological gambling are: strict legislation, regulation of the gambling market and acknowledgement of gambling dependency in the Swedish Social Services Act. Information with the aim to raise the awareness and problematize gambling plays an important part in the process of changing norms and attitudes to gambling.

Texto completoTemat för detta kandidatarbetet var Queer Spel. Vi diskuterade hur queerhet appliceras i digitala spel för HBTQ personer. Vi gjorde några observeringar kring hur HBTQ karaktärer representerades inom några spel som innehöll representationer av queer upplevelser. Vi undersökte ämnet “Queer Mechanics” som presenterades av spelskaparen Avery Mcdaldno (2014) och undersökte diskussioner från vissa forskare om Queerhet i Spel. Nämligen, Bonnie Ruberg (Campus Gotland GAME, 2017), Naomi Clark (2017, Kapitel 1) and Edmond. Y. Chang (2017, Kapitel 2). Vi förklarade varför vi använde “Gay Memes” som vår huvudämne för vår Queer-Spelgestaltning och sedan tydliggjorde våra metoder och designprocess som vi hade under utvecklingen av vår Queer-Spelgestaltning. Dessa metoder inkluderade Innovation By Boundary Shifting (Löwgren and Stolterman, 2004), Design Pillars (Max Pears, 2017) och The Crystal Clear method (New Line Technologies, 2018). Sedan bröt vi ner designprocessen till sina olika steg från hur vi kom fram till spelkonceptet till vilka “Design Pillars” vi använde och vilka datorprogram och verktyg vi använde för att utveckla spelgestaltningen. Vi förklarade också relationen mellan designprocessen och informationen vi lärde oss från de sistnämnda forskare och spelskapare. I slutet av detta kandidatarbetet diskuterade vi hur bra de valda metoderna fungerade och resultaten vi hittade genom vår undersökning. Dessa inkluderade att ifrågasätta rollen av empati och vikten av att ha roligt i spel, att lägga mindre fokus på ytliga former av representation och att skapa spelmekanik som är Queer. Vi beskrev den färdiga spelgestaltningen som vi skapade och introducerade våra egna idéer för framtida undersökningar om Queer Speldesign.

Texto completoI det här projektet har vi studerat komplexa mekaniska system där vi genom teori från den analytiska meknaiken, härlett rörelseekvationer som vi sedan har löst symboliskt. Trots att den analytiska mekaniken erbjuder kraftfulla verktyg för att bemöta svåra problem som man med Newtonsk mekanik skulle få stora svårigheter att lösa, är man ändå relativt begränsad utan datorn till hjälp. Man inser i allt snabbare takt att det blir en övermäktig uppgift att finna en analytisk lösning när antalet frihetsgrader för systemet ökar. Även om man skulle lyckas med att härleda rörelseekvationerna, vilket ofta är en krävande uppgift i sig, är allt arbete förgäves om man inte lyckas lösa dom. Av erfarenhet vet man att differentialekvationerna i allmänhet blir ickelinjära och måste därför integreras numeriskt om man inte nöjer sig med att inskränka sig till små rörelser [7]. I sådana fall kan dom ickelinjära termerna linjäriseras genom taylorserieutvecklingar och man blir då kvar med linjära ekvationer som är lösbara analytiskt. Dessa olinjäriteter påverkar systemets känslighet för initialvillkor vilket innebär att små avvikelser i begynnelsevärdena ofta leder till stora förändringar i systemets fortsatta rörelseevolution. Rörelsen blir alltså lätt vad man kallar kaotisk. Då vi har intresserat oss av systemens allmänna rörelser och inte enbart små rörelser, har symboliska och numeriska beräkningar varit gryndläggande för analysen. Stora delar av detta projekt har därför varit att bekanta oss med det Maplebaserade simuleringsprogrammet ’Sophia’, uppkallat till ära efter Sveriges första kvinnliga professor och matematiker, Sofia Kovalevskaja [7]. Med detta program kunde vi simulera olika typer av pendelrörelser och genom att rita upp grafer och animeringar, undersöka parameter-och begynnelsevärdenas inflytande på den fortsatta rörelsen.

Texto completoTo develop an understanding of the theory of evolution may, at first glance seem simple, but several studies show that teaching it often is problematic and does not lead to conceptual understanding. The teaching of evolution may focus on different aspects such as conceptual understanding of evolution or to show evolution as a historical process. This essay is focused on conceptual understanding of evolutionary mechanisms and how students develop an understanding of them. We have had the opportunity to study students in two high school classes before they began studiyng evolution. All these students have a common body of knowledge from Swedish elementary school but they will now study evolution from two different perspectives. The survey reveals some of the challenges that teachers face when teaching evolution.

Texto completoAbstract Purpose Critical study of the physiological mechanisms proposed for overtraining process. Method Systematic literature study according to SBU's guidelines and formularies. Inclusion- and exclusion criteria were developed for the literature search. The title and abstract of each article was read and tested against exclusion-inclusion criteria. Included articles were downloaded and relevance was reviewed. Articles that passed the examination were evidence graded according to the SBU templates. Results Supplements of carbohydrates seems to postpone the symptoms associated with overreaching, but could not prevent overreaching development. Acute endurance training reduces the 5-HT2A receptors (Serotonin Receptors) sensitivity. In athletes with overtraining syndrome it appears that the sensitivity of the 5-HT 2A receptors increases. Periods of acute intensive exercise induces down-regulation of immune activity and upregulation of cytokine IL-6 which was associated with fatigue and general discomfort, including symptoms of depression. IL-1β and TNF were associated with depression, sleep disorders and fatigue. Overtrained athletes where found to have a reduced antioxidant capacity, which seems to be founded under particularly tough training periods. Conclusion Overreaching, and eventually overtraining, seems to be due to recurrent and persistent (without sufficient recovery) increased metabolic energy demand causing IL-6 to be secreted to stimulate the liver to release glucose. IL-6 in conjunction with TNF-α and IL-1β and IL-10 secretion is signaled to the brain and will possibly affect serotonin signaling to postsynapses which can affect motivation and lead to feelings of fatigue and depressive symptoms. Homeostasis is disrupted and does not return to baseline values, leading to, first acute and then chronic stress where mental illness and the loss of performance is the most visible symptoms.

Texto completoAnalytical mechanics is an alternative to Classical (Newtonian) mechanics for calculating the movement of particles and systems of particles. In this paper we analyze three different mechanical systems using analytical mechanics. We then implement this into the maple based software "Sophia" to further analyze how changing some of the parameters alter the behavior of the system. One of our main focuses in the report is studying the stability of an inverted pendulum. In 1951 the Russian physicist Pyotr Kapitza, figured out that the pendulum could be stabilized in the upside-down position by forcing it into a rapid vertical oscillation. We examine the boundaries of this stability and explore if the pendulum can instead be stabilized using an elliptical oscillation

Texto completoIn this paper the conceptual coherence and towards physics among students in thephysics and science program at Polhemskolan in Lund were measured and compared.The conceptual coherence was measured with the Force Concept Inventory, a muchdebated multiple choice test from USA that is supposed to measure students’ conceptualcoherence for the concept of force in classical mechanics. Since many studies show thatthe interest in physics is declining the students’ attitude towards physics was alsomeasured with an attitude test of Likert model.The study is done among students that just started year one and older students that havehad instruction in physics at the Swedish correspondence to high school. The result ofthe study is that the students at the physics program have a higher conceptual coherencefor the concept of force than the students at the science program and that the coherence4is improved with the physics course Fysik A. The attitude towards physics is morepositive at the physics program but the attitudes among the students at the scienceprogram are more widely scattered. The conclusion is that the physics program atPolhemskolan has succeeded in attracting the students it is meant for.

Texto completoMany people of all ages fall ill each year with cancer. In Sweden, more than 7000 people aged 20-54 years are diagnosed. In this age, many have children. These children may have mixed experiences and reactions to their parent's illness, which may be important for the nurse to know in order to give these children good support. Purpose: The purpose was to describe children's experiences and coping-mechanisms of living with a parent with cancer. Method: The study was conducted as a literature review. To study the results eight scientific papers were used and dissertations were used. These were analyzed by manifest content analysis. Results: The analysis resulted in three main categories: Negative experiences, Positive experiences and Coping. Then coping was divided into problem-oriented coping and emotional coping. Discussion: To speak about the parent's cancer with a professional was a need identified among the older children. Nurses and other health care professionals should address these needs in order to alleviate children's anxiety. To obtain greater knowledge of this area suggested further research was suggested on how professionals can support children who have a parent with cancer.

Texto completoThe importance of media consumption containing ideal/appearance focus and different psychological mechanisms to body image was examined by a survey. The sample consisted of 331 Swedish young men and women. For women, there was a weak positive correlation between media consumption and positive body image. BMI was a third variable, alternatively a mediator in this relationship. Selective exposure theory is proposed as a framework for interpreting these results. Furthermore, internalization and social comparison were important mechanisms related to body image. Compared with men, women experienced more negative body image, had lower self-esteem, more social comparison tendencies, and were more appearance-oriented. This study shows the complexity of processes connected to body image and highlights the importance of further research in this area.

There is a desire to replace this particular mechanic with something else, and this thesis suggests a couple of potential replacements. These concepts of mechanics are derived from the results of a survey, and are further tested in a number of user tests. The conclusions could be summarized as that the two new concepts are not more motivational in themselves. But if one would like to change the original mechanic, it could be by making it more difficult, adding other values than just virtual, and making a stronger connection to health.

Texto completoSaab Dynamics is implementing the methodology project MBD ILS & Systemssäkerhet. The project has the purpose of creating the optimum conditions required for Concurrent Engineering (CE). CE generally concerns the early involvement of all necessary functions during the product development process, which makes it possible to include the lifecycle perspective at a larger extent. CE is comparable to, the more common approach, integrated product development. The bachelor thesis was a part of the methodology project to analyse the exchange of information, which is a fundamental prerequisite for CE, between the disciplines Mechanics and ILS (Integrated Logistic Support). The analysis was characterized as a qualitative analysis. Interviews were carried out with the employees at Saab Dynamics to emphasize their opinions and point of view of the current information exchange. The data were collected and analysed relative CE to describe a representation of the current information exchange and the needs for improvement. The detected information exchange were considered to be lacking in compassion to CE. The employees experienced an absence of descriptions and guidelines for the information exchange in the interface between Mechanics and ILS. The need for improvements are concerning the need of feedback, accountability and insight in the other disciplines work, which are factors with great influence on the success of CE. For further studies, an interesting aspect would be to investigate different types and sizes of projects to be able to see how the information exchange varies. Also, interviews with project managers would add a broader perspective of the current information exchange and work flow.

Texto completoAim In order to investigate and describe what basic data teachers in PE use when marking pupils in year 9 and how this documentation relates to the syllabus and criteria for certificates in Lpo 94 the following questions are made: What kind of mental documentation do the teachers have when marking, as it appears whit the method Repertory Grid? How does this mental documentation match the pupil's marks? What kind of written documentation do the teachers have when grading? How do this mental and written documentation relate to each other and to the syllabus and criteria for certificates in Lpo 94? Method Repertory Grid-interviews were conducted with four teachers in PE to find out their mental documentation and their written documentation were collected. The interviews were analyzed with WebGrid5, a program for RG-interviews. Six months later there was a follow-up where the teachers could comment the analyses. Results The constructs generated in the RG-interviews are found in the categories motivation, skills, self-confidence and social capability including leadership. To get a MVG the teacher had to give the pupil a high ranking in all the constructs, to get a VG in at least half of them and to get a G they didn´t need any high rankings. The written documentation was about skills and leadership. Motivation, self confidence and social capability do not exist in any extension in the written documentation and Lpo 94 but match the grades. The skills swimming, orienteering, outdoor life and health-consciousness exists sparsely in the mental documentation but exists in all written documentation and in Lpo 94. Conclusions The documentation declared above indicates that the mental documentation is a important basic data for grading. Constructs that only exist there, concerning motivation, self-confidence and social capability, are important for grading and constructs that are missing, for example swimming, do not have a big impact on the grade according to a national evaluation, NU03. If the construct exists with one teacher, like orienteering, it is a bad match with the other constructs. The constructs that only exist in the mental documentation matches them that are supported in the steering documents and experience-based inner templates helps the teachers to cope with the massive information they observe during the lessons. Goals to strive for, in Lpo 94 seem to be important for the mental documentation. When the teacher can´t measure goals, like a life-long interest, they transform them into interest in the lessons in PE. All documentation was focusing on "doing" and it was hard to find the reflection that is spoken of in Lpo 94.

Texto completoDen här rapporten undersöker vilken uppfattning och kunskap lärarna i förskolan har om naturvetenskap och hur den införlivas i praktiken enligt förskolans läroplan och lokala styrdokument. Syftet med den här undersökningen är att ta reda på: (i) Vad är naturvetenskap för lärarna i förskolan? (ii) Vilka mekanismer styr lärarnas planering och realisering av naturvetenskapen i det pedagogiska vardagsarbetet?
Material och data till undersökningen har samlats ihop genom kvalitativa intervjuer med sju lärare i förskolan.
Rapporten visar att övervägande delen av lärarna i förskolan ser naturvetenskapen som att vistas i skog och mark. Vad det gäller faktorer som påverkar planering och realisering av naturvetenskapen framkom det genom intervjumaterialet att det är: (i) Kompetens, (ii) förståelse av naturvetenskapen och dess innehåll och (iii) insikten av de styrdokument som förskolan lyder under.
Utifrån gällanden styrdokument i förskolan är naturvetenskapen ett kunskapsområde som bör lyftas och synliggöras i den pedagogiska vardagen. För att uppfylla dessa krav bör lärarna i förskolan öka sin kunskap inom denna vetenskapsgren.
This report investigates the perception and knowledge of natural science amongst pre-school teachers and how natural science is currently incorporated into the pre-school curriculum. The aims of these investigations are in particular to: (i) Establish what natural science means (and implicates) to pre-school teachers. (ii) Identify factors that influence planning and implementation of natural science in the pre-school curriculum.
Material and data for the abovementioned investigations have been gathered through qualitative interviews with seven active pre-school teachers.
The report finds that a majority of the interviewees only have a very basic understanding of natural science and therefore often fail to adequately incorporate natural science in the daily pre-school curriculum. The report furthermore finds that amongst the interviewees the factors that influence planning and implementation of natural science in the pre-school curriculum are: (i) competence, (ii) perception and knowledge of natural science and (iii) interpretation of the pre-school curriculum guidelines.
Current pre-school curriculum guidelines stresses the importance of natural science and encourages pre-school teachers to increase the awareness of natural science by incorporating it in the daily curriculum. This report argues that in order to increase the awareness of natural science the knowledge and perception of natural science amongst pre-school teachers must first be improved.

Texto completoThe purpose of this work is to study the, more or less conscious, canon of literature that is created through teachers' choice of literature in teaching within the Swedish subject for grades 7–9 and upper secondary school. In order to achieve the purpose, a survey was conducted as a basis for teaching aids and anthology analysis of the works mentioned by the Swedish teachers in the survey. The study shows that the Swedish teachers' text choices are influenced by various factors such as teaching aids, anthologies, accessibility, colleagues, the internet and their own experiences and knowledge. Teaching aids writers and anthology editors have a great power over the Swedish subject and literature teaching as their choices and preferences then result in a text choice used in Swedish schools. In addition, the study suggests that teachers contribute to creating an informal classroom canon through the fiction works selected and not included in anthologies or teaching aids.

Texto completoThis work is a project aimed at developing a solution to a problem with loose chains in one of Komatsu Forest's forestry machines. The task was to construct an automatic chain tensioner that would tighten the loose chains when needed. Requirements and goals were set for the project. Limitations were established and then a theory was developed for the problem. Based on the theory, a method could be developed to address and solve the problem the best way possible. The project was followed through and the result was four solutions to the problem. The different solutions addressed the problem in different ways but would theoretically solve the problem based on the given theory and limitations. However, one of the solutions was chosen as the best and for that solution, a production base was also taken. If the result were to be continued and a physical prototype would be manufactured, then it could possibly solve the problem of the decaying chains.
