Texto completoWith the apparition of the ABAKO as a political association in 1950, a certain awakening towards political concern has ermerged in 1956 on political ground. The political opinion in favor of this event was stressed by the manifestos of the “ African Consciousness ” and the ABAKO. These manifestos were designed to respond to the “ Plan for thirty years ” of the Professor Van Bilsen. The first political parties came into being between 1958-1960. The origin of these parties is mainly congolese because of the absence of influence from belgian political parties. The political parties created during the period 1960-1965 that is the first five years after the independence, were intended to fight for ideology. To this end, those parties were running for the general elections of 1965. From 1960, different governments have short lived because of political instability causing accordingly the dysfunction of political life and most importantly jeopardizing the function of the institutions. Under President MOBUTU regime, political parties were forbidden. . Moreover, President MOBUTU has created the MPR ( Revolutionary Popular Movement ) on May 20, 1967. The MPR was aimed to rally all Congolese citizens without exception. It was transformed into State Party in 1970. The MPR has become powerful during the Second Republic. But under the pressure of the population, President MOBUTU has accepted in the end on April 24, 1990, the existence of other political parties within the framework political liberalization

Texto completoThe Catholic Church in Zaïre has been a consistent critic of the Mobutu dictatorship during a period which has seen the country slide into economic, political and social chaos. It has been vocal on issues like social injustice and infringements of human rights, targeting, in particular way, the moral bankruptcy and greed of the local political élite. The Church, through the bishops, has expressed the desire of many citizens of Zaïre for the establishment of genuinely participative political society which would ensure a more just distribution of responsabilities, resources and wealth. Drawing on the social teaching of the Church, the Catholic community in Zaïre firmly believes that it can contribute to the emergence of new society in the country on a number of levels, ranging from reflective to the actively engaged. Thanks to its country-wide presence and its numerous local organisations and associations, the Catholic Church in Zaïre is a strong position to respond creatively to the education, health and economic needs of people at a time when the state's capacity for intervention is limited. In spite of its internal division, the Church constitutes a moral authority for the people of Zaïre and a vital critical voice in politics

Texto completoCelebrate and commemorate the dead so as to criticize the living and society, such is the significance of the attitudes, speech and actions of Kinshasa youth in Zaire. For those young people, funerals have become the best place and form of actualization of the crisis in the redistribution of wealth and social position, of which they are the principal victims, in a socio-political context where the traditional mechanisms of integration are in dysfunction, and where the placement system initiated by president Mobutu has come to a dead end
