Resumen
After the breakup of relations with the Soviet Union and its satellites in 1948, Yugoslavia began to turn to Western countries, seeking not only formal but also informal ties for connecting with them, especially in the economic field. Italian financier Camillo Castiglioni seemed like a good choice for the role of unofficial mediator, especially because of the contacts he had with US financial circles. During 1949, the Yugoslavs hired him as an informal mediator for negotiations with the Export-Import Bank of the United States, in order to obtain a loan from this banking institution. An agreeme

Resumen
The banking system of the Kingdom of Serbia, and later of the Kingdom of Yugoslavia, was principally characterized by numerous small, local money bureaus. These bureaus were founded with the purpose of providing the necessary capital and profit to their shareholders, as well as offering the ground for the capital placement in times of economic depression. The Market Loan and Savings Bank of Vranje was established in the time of a great financial crisis and is thus an example of the money bureau of the aforementioned nature. Moreover, it is the evidence of how the Great Depression affected the

Abstract The paper depicts the history of using money in Montenegro covering the period before the Christ until nowadays. Montenegro mostly used foreign currencies throughout its long history, these being Roman, Austro-Hungarian, Turkish, Venetian, and even the Napoleon (French gold coin) money. The first ideas for Montenegro’s own money came from the Bishop Petar Petrovic Njegoš in the 19th century. The first Montenegrin money, the Perper, was minted in 1906. The King Nikola`s Decree as of 11 April 1906 authorized the Ministry of Finance to mint the nickel and bronze coins. Silver and gold co

Abstract In this chapter, we focus on the former Yugoslavia and examine its political characteristics and the formation and development of its welfare system, with a particular focus on family policy. Under the pressure of output legitimacy and aligned with the socialist ideology of equality, including gender equality, Yugoslavia established comprehensive welfare commitments that often exceeded the state’s capacity to fulfil them. AbstractWhile there is abundant literature that documents the flow of remittances, less research exists on the modalities of remitting, the dynamics between sender and recipient, and how both change over time. This contribution draws on an interdisciplinary collaboration between history and anthropology to offer fresh insights into the problem. This study spans an almost five-decade period and explores a major social transformation, namely the fall of communism in Yugoslavia and the emergence of neoliberal capitalism in the twenty-first century. It compares remittance practices among both rura

Money is mostly counterfeited by individuals or groups who are motivated by the acquisition of illegal benefits. Despite the strict legal sanctions prescribed for counterfeiting and circulation of counterfeit money in all legislations, the occurrence of counterfeits is frequent. Counterfeit money, especially in larger quantities and more successfully executed, harms individuals, and citizens, who receive such money and is a significant danger to the national economy and monetary security. After the First World War, the counterfeiting of money as a special form of crime, sometimes politically m

Resumen
Abstract LAND of asylum or garbage can (‘terre d’asile ou poubelle’) are two labels given to France depending on one’s point of view on immigration. Since the nineteenth century and until the 1950s, with the influx of Italians, Poles, Spaniards, Portuguese, and Yugoslavs, France has been a land of asylum, absorbing and integrating these European populations. During the 1960s a new wave of immigration displaced men from the former colonies, mainly the Maghreb and black Africa, to the French mainland, where they were imported to work in road and building construction, car factories, and garbage
