Notable Social Studies Trade Book (NSSTB) lists include books selected annually by the Book Review Committee of the National Council for the Social Studies in conjunction with the Children’s Book Council. These lists are excellent resources for teachers who use children’s literature to support social studies instruction in their classrooms. We report our analysis of award-winning titles for primary grades published from 2001-2011. Biographies and books that address topics about families are featured as a starting place for primary grades teachers to begin incorporating NSSTB into their social studies instruction. We conclude by suggesting ways for primary grade teachers to utilize the book lists each year.

For the past four years, both Pam and I have sat on the Notable Children's Books in the English Language Arts (NCBLA) Book Aware Committee. Every year the seven member national committee selects 30 award winning titles in fiction, non-fiction, and poetry for children in grades K-8. To receive this award books must meet one or more of the following criteria: • explicitly dealing with language, such as play on words, word origins, or the history of language;• demonstrating uniqueness in the use of language or styles; • inviting child response or participation;• having an appealing format;• being of enduring quality;• meeting generally accepted criteria of quality for the genre in which they are written. The Tuvan People's Republic, as a sovereign state with a socialist orientation, did not exist for long: from 1921 to 1944. During the period of 23 years, just over 500 books, brochures, newspapers and magazines in Mongolian, Tuvan and Russian languages came out of print. They were published by various departments, the Press Committee, and the Tuvan United State Publishing House as well. To date over 150 works have survived, most of which – in the only copy. The main owners of these book monuments became the National Library named after A. S. Pushkin, the National Museum named after Aldan-Maadyr, the National Archive and the Tuvan Institute of Humanities, Applied and Socio-Economic Research. For example, in the specialized sector of the National Library there are more than 60 printed works published in the Tuvan People's Republic. The object of the research is the “Collection of laws and basic regulations of the Government of the Tuvan People's Republic” that is stored in the archive of the Tuvan Institute of Humanities, Applied and Socio-Economic Research. The purpose of the article is to consider the specifics of the period of preparation and release of the collection, its structure and content. The results of the study will expand the understanding of the book culture of the Tuvan People’s Republic and, in general, the cultural heritage of the republic in modern conditions.

Today, the Book Chamber of Ukraine is the only scientific institution in the field of publishing and information activities, based on state property and subordinated to the State Committee for Television and Radio Broadcasting of Ukraine, and from 2021 - to the Ministry of Culture and Information Policy. The Book Chamber of Ukraine performs the functions of the national agency of the International System of Standard Numbering of Books (ISBN), music editions (ISMN) and periodicals (ISSN). Let me remind you that currently the State Archive of the Book Chamber Press is stored in a room of 10.5 thousand square meters. m, the fund has 15 million units of printed products published in Ukraine since 1917, and is constantly replenished with new publications. This is the only printing archive in Ukraine that has unique funds at its disposal, and therefore their replenishment, storage and scientific processing is an extremely important task, on which the objective reflection of the history of our country depends The electronic catalog "Books for the years of independent Ukraine" is functioning and constantly updated. Books and brochures are searched automatically for many parameters: author, title, publisher, year and place of publication, International Standard Book Number (ISBN), and so on. Books, newspapers, magazines, postcards are coming. There is no place to save them. The second floor is empty, as it is necessary to install fire extinguishing systems, air conditioning, racks… However, there is no money, employees did not receive a salary for May… It seems that the State Scientific Institution "Book Chamber of Ukraine named after Ivan Fedorov" after 102 years of fruitful life must die, taking with him the documentary memory of our country.

Abstract Pamela W Duncan, PT, PhD, FAPTA Dr Duncan has actively participated in and contributed to physical therapist practice, physical therapist professional education, professional preparation of other health care providers, national policy development related to rehabilitation after stroke and aging, and scientific investigation. She has served several government appointments and provides leadership within several organizations. She served as co-chair of the Consensus Panel on Establishing Guidelines for Stroke Rehabilitation for the Agency for Health Care Policy, Research, and Education. She was a panel member on the National Institutes of Health's Total Hip Replacement Consensus Conference and served on the Strategic Planning Group for Stroke Research for the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke. She recently was appointed to serve on the Steering Committee of the Department of Education's National Institute on Disability and Rehabilitation Research and is currently on the Executive Leadership Council of the American Stroke Foundation and the Advisory Committee of the Canadian Stroke Network. She has served on committees and panels for the American Heart Association and was president of APTA's Neurology section. Dr Duncan's research activities focus on geriatric rehabilitation, stroke rehabilitation, and health outcomes measurement. She developed the Functional Reach Test, used to assess balance in older adults. In the past 20 years, she has received $13 million in research awards as principal investigator or co-investigator from agencies such as the National Institutes of Health, National Institute on Aging, American Heart Association, Department of Veteran's Affairs, and National Center for Medical Rehabilitation Research and from multiple private funding sources. Dr Duncan has disseminated her research findings in more than 80 peer-reviewed articles in 20 different journals, and she has written a book and 12 book chapters. Dr Duncan's work has influenced the care and rehabilitation of patients in the United States and worldwide. Physical therapy education programs across the country incorporate her findings and professional vision into the preparation of the next generation of physical therapists. APTA has awarded Dr Duncan the Marian Williams Award for Research in Physical Therapy, the Catherine Worthingham Fellowship Award, and the Mary McMillan Scholarship Award. She has also received research awards from the APTA Neurology Section, Sports Physical Therapy Section, and Section on Geriatrics, as well as a service award from the Neurology Section. She is an elected fellow of the Stroke Council of the American Heart Association and has given 8 invited lectureships at universities across the United States.

SummaryThe recent call from FAO to take part in the process of preparing the First Report on the State of the World Animal Genetic Resources (SoW) stressed the need to develop management capacity at country level to facilitate the preparation of country reports (CRs). A key role is played by the National Focal Points (NFPs) and the National Coordinators (NCs).A national workshop was held in South Africa in 1998 and a National Committee for Farm Animal Genetic Resources (FanGR) was established. The existing Indigenous Livestock Committee was reviewed and adapted to make it more focused on the management of FAnGR. At the same time a National Coordinator was also identified and the Animal Improvement Institute was nominated as national coordinating institute for FAnGR.The collaboration with some NGOs was strongly suggested, particularly with:a) the Farm Animal Conservation Trust (FACT), to assist with the conservation of farm animal genetic resources. This NGO was modelled on the Rare Breeds Survival Trust (RBST) in the United Kingdom and on Rare Breeds International (RBI)b) The South African Stud Book and Livestock Improvement Association (SASB) andc) many Rural Communities and National and Provincial animal genetic resource centresThe institutional frame for AnGR conservation in South Africa is briefly described, together with the aims of the South African conservation activities.

The article analyzes archival funds and primary sources to establish the peculiarities of the activities of the Ukrainian diaspora in Italy on the eve of the 1960 Olympic Games. Correspondence between Osip Zinkevich and Vasyl Fedorovych regarding the participation of Ukrainian athletes separately from the USSR in the Olympic Games in Rome was revealed. It was found that the Ukrainian Olympic Committee was active on the eve and during the Olympic Games, distributing memorandums to the International Olympic Committee, National Olympic Committees, International Sports Federations, etc., printing newsletters, opening an information bureau in Rome.
The activities of the information bureau of the Ukrainian Olympic Committee contributed to the distribution in Ukrainian and English of the newsletter «For the participation of Ukraine in the Olympic Games», the organization of a press conference in Rome for the foreign press, the organization of an exhibition of Ukrainian publications in the countries of the free world, the establishment of contacts with Ukrainian (Soviet) athletes , re-presenting the issue of Ukraine's participation in the Olympic Games at the Rome session of the IOC, promoting the Olympic idea among the Ukrainian community in Ukraine and abroad, publishing the book «Ukrainian Olympic Champions» in English. The idea of local participation of the Ukrainian team in the Olympic Games has little global support.

David M. Lampton's book on the U.S.-China relationship is the best in a series of strong works on the topic in recent years. In contrast to James Mann's About Face (1999) and Patrick Tyler's A Great Wall (1999), books by scholarly journalists that cover the history of the relationship from the late 1960s to the late 1990s and that use declassified documents from the U.S. side extensively, Lampton concentrates solely on the former Bush and Clinton administrations. Moreover, he takes great advantage of his experience as president of the National Committee on United States–China Relations from 1988 to 1996 (he was professor of political science at Ohio State University before serving on the committee, and he is now a professor at Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies) to illustrate the ins and outs of U.S.-China relations. In contrast to Mann and Tyler, Lampton had great access to top Chinese leaders (and top U.S. officials as well) on a recurring basis, and the Chinese side is presented here with more insight than in any other source.

Abstract In 1970, I. H. Marshall published Luke: Historian and Theologian. The influence Marshall had by the publication of Luke: Historian and Theologian has been seen in the various effects the book had on redaction-criticism in the field of New Testament studies, and how Luke, the writer of Luke-Acts, has since been appreciated as both a theologian and an historian, not one or the other, as it was before Marshall’s work. In 2021 at the 73rd national meeting of the Evangelical Theological Society and after a one-year postponement following the global pandemic, the Luke-Acts steering committee celebrated the 50th year of the publication of Marshall’s book with a section specifically dedicated to aspects of the book and its legacy.

The proposed article examines the content and results of applied scientific research of the Book Chamber of Ukraine in the II quarter of 2023 on the topic "Development of databases of the current state bibliography of Ukraine in 2022—2023 and the retrospective fund of the 1920s, 1970s." The article is intended to inform society about the scientific activities of the Book Chamber in the field of current and retrospective bibliography, research and disclosure for the scientific community and the general public of users of literary treasures from the fund of the State Printing Archive, which is included in the State Register of scientific objects that are national property. The material is presented in the form of separate sections in accordance with the structure of quarterly informational notes on the implementation of scientific works, which are submitted to the State Television and Radio Committee, under whose management the Book Chamber is located. The content and sequence of sections are presented in accordance with the quarterly Calendar Plan for the performance of scientific works.

This research will explore the type or form of structure for managing the organization of the Arabic language camp program of the Fourth Sub-Government Board of the Arabic Language Students Association (ITHLA) in Indonesia, and the steps in managing its organization. This research uses a qualitative descriptive research method. Data is collected using interview and documentation techniques. The researchers obtain data from the former Chairman of the Board of Directors and one of the committee members. After collecting the data, the data is analyzed through; Display data, reduce data. As for the results from this research, it is concluded that the type of organization used in the Arabic language camp program is a functional organizational type by grouping committees that have the same skills and tasks into work groups (one department) and in the department work on the basis of job placement. In this research there are several language programs; Public speaking competition, Arabic debate competition, book reading competition, Arabic singing competition, Arabic poetry reading competition, National Scientific Forum, International Scientific Forum, and activating the Arabic language environment during the program process.

The purpose of the article is to reflect the activities of N.A. Voznesensky as head of the State Planning Committee of the USSR, at the same time deputy, and then first deputy chairman of the Council of People’s Commissars (Council of Ministers) of the USSR based on the introduction of new archival documents into scientific circulation. The relevance of the study is due to insufficient knowledge of the activities of this economist and politician. Objectives of the article is to explore historical and political aspects, using analytical, statistical and comparative historical methods to tell about the history of Voznesensky’s creation of the book «The Military Economy of the USSR during the Patriotic War»; consider the reasons for the repression against him and subsequent rehabilitation. It is concluded that Voznesensky in the most difficult economic and political conditions of the pre-war, war and post-war times, sought to preserve and restore the economy of the USSR, the positive and negative aspects of his activities are indicated, as well as the reasons for the execution and rehabilitation. The directions of military restructuring of national economy of the USSR outlined in his book were of great importance for the study of socio-economic conditions of Victory in the war.

Based on the analysis of publications of scholars and book practitioners the author formulates main features and definition of the bookselling network as a set of wholesale, wholesale-retail and retail bookselling enterprises under common management (a single management center and unified management principles), which sell the similar book and accompanying assortment of goods and services for personal and public (library) consumption to get profit. The world largest, having no analogues to date, national bookselling network was the unified state centralized system of the USSR State Printing Committee, which included 3,763 stores in 1988. After its disintegration in 1996-2000, the federal, regional and local bookselling networks started forming both in the center of Russia and in regions on other principles and in other ways. The phenomenon of the Russian book market at the turn of the XX and XXI centuries was a wholesale and retail book-selling company «Top-book» (1995-2011). The company built a system of logistics centers, developed and implemented various formats of the retail distribution network. By 2010, the «Top-Book» had over 500 stores in more than 230 Russian cities and sold above 3 million books a month. At the same time, the company's unprecedented pace of development required organizational changes: improving manageability, optimizing the budget expenditure part by reducing costs. The impossibility to solve the problems led the company to bankruptcy in 2011. The largest federal bookstore network enterprise in Russia by 2017 is the integrated retail network «Chitai-gorod» - «Bukvoed» over 528 enterprises in 167 cities of Russia. There are 55 stores in 21 cities of Siberia and the Far East. But the most significant for the regional book market is the activity of bookselling associations established in Siberia and the Far East. Mostly there are networks created by booksellers in the region, but publishing and book-selling holdings («Bichik», «Apex», «Novaya kniga», etc.) form networks to sale their own printed products as well.

Reading, one of the ‘three Rs’ still fundamental to educational theory and reconceptualisations of literacy teaching and learning, is a complex socio-cultural practice. Recent attacks on critical literacy approaches to teaching English reveal that what children are taught to read, and how they are taught to read it, is value-laden and contentious (Slattery 2005, p.31). Critics argue for a ‘back to basics’ approach to teaching a love of reading, a reaction to the ‘postmodern literary theory [that] has infiltrated our schools at the expense of comprehension and expression’ (ibid). Yet these same critics appear unaware that the link between children’s literature and ideology was both recognised by, and institutionalised in, Australian school textbooks of nearly 80 years ago. Indeed, in the 1928 preface to the eighth book, the first of the Victorian Readers to be published, the editorial committee was explicit in its intended literary production of young Australians.

The 1953 National Housing Conference explored a wide range of ways of dealing with the problems of post-WW II housing, including reducing the costs of construction. The New Zealand Master Builders' Federation in its conference proposal was clear that one way to reduce costs was by a skilled and educated workforce. They noted the need for "an authoritative text-book on carpentry and joinery, based on New Zealand building practice," and their proposal was adopted as Conference Resolution 17. A committee was formed to guide the content and form of the book, and anonymous staff from the Technical Correspondence School prepared the text. Geoffrey Nees (architect of Kelburn, Wellington) employed five draughtsmen to complete the nearly 500 illustrations. The 1948 book The Australian Carpenter by C Lloyd and the New Zealand Army Education Welfare Service (AEWS) series of five carpentry booklets formed the basis for this new book, which focused on the syllabus of the New Zealand Trade Certificate.Carpentry in New Zealand was published in June 1958 and was an immediate success with 33,600 copies printed by September 1973. A new cover and conversion to metric units occurred in 1977, with the third edition published in 1980. The final printing was in 1987.

IMY was a worldwide celebration of maps and their unique role in our world. Supported by the United Nations, IMY provides opportunities to demonstrate, follow, and get involved in the art, science, and technology of making and using maps and geographic information. International Map Year (IMY) started in Paris 2011 when the General Assembly of the International Cartographic Association (ICA) asked the ICA Executive Committee (EC) to follow up on the proposal given in a motion from the Swedish Cartographic Society. An IMY Working Group (WG) was constituted – it defined the IMY goals and the activities required to reach them, and it proposed a suitable time period for the IMY to the ICA EC. IMY commenced in August 2015 and ended in December 2016. The success of IMY was dependent on all member nations of the ICA participating in an effort to broaden the knowledge of cartography and geographic information in society in general, especially among citizens and school children. Member nations of the ICA were responsible for organizing IMY activities, such as a national Map Day, through national IMY committees tasked to engage national organizations and spearheading collaboration. The IMY WG set up an IMY web site with general information on IMY, guidelines for how to organize Map Days, suggestions relating to activities aimed at general map awareness, and more. The web site also provides access to the electronic book The World of Maps, which has been translated from English into five other languages.

The Proceedings volume includes 12 manuscripts that were presented as plenary talks at the conference; the abstracts of all participants’ contributions were published in the Abstract Book with ISSN 2745-1496. This research covers in a very careful reading the poetry book of (Mr. Mohammad Ahmed Al-Ammad), which was published after being audited and verified by a respected committee composed from number of teachers from the department of Arabic Language, Faculty of Arts, An-Najah National University. We tried in this work to do the correction and remedial work for language and prosodic mistakes which were very huge in number, still the poems were very excellent and valuable, but, these mistakes disfigured its language rhythms. In our correction and remedial work we depended on number of Arabic language dictionaries, our long scientific and practical experiences in teaching language sciences, and on our personal knowledge of the poet himself, his culture, thoughts, and language skills as a poet. Our humble work, the research, intends to place back the poet, the writer, on his respected place, and repaying, and replacing the publisher, An-Njah National University in its cultural, academic right place.

Based on a detailed study and analysis of archival sources and testimonies of contemporaries, the characteristics of Petro Shelest’s methods and principles of personnel selection for key positions in the Ukrainian SSR, his relations with subordinates in the process of work, formation of the closest circle of colleagues are presented. The analysis of the personnel of the Politburo of the Central Committee of the Communist Party in 1963-1972 has been made. Based on memoir sources, character traits have been studied; personal qualities, as well as originality of relations of the first secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party both with subordinates and the top leadership of the Soviet state and family members have been de- scribed. The author of the article clarifies the main trends in the development of the system of privileges and the privileges of the Soviet nomenklatura in the period of “stagnation”. The pro-Ukrainian course of the leader of the republican party organization was reflected in the author’s book OUR SOVIET UKRAINE, which was published in 1970. At first glance, the openly ideological propaganda work of Petro Shelest clearly demonstrated the attention of the republican party-state elite to the social economic problems of Ukraine, and the interest in its history and culture. Sometimes Shelest defended individual Ukrainian cultural figures who were subjected to ideological persecution. At the same time, Petro Shelest remained a typical expression of the Soviet command-administrative system. It was during his leadership of the republic that mass punitive operations against the Ukrainian national movement took place. In August 1968, Shelest was one of the initiators of the suppression of the “Prague Spring” which, in his opinion, contributed to the spread of anti-Soviet sentiment in Ukraine.However, P. Shelest’s pursuit of an autonomist course, his independence in resolving issues, and “localism and manifestations of nationalism” could not please the allied leadership. In April 1973, a campaign was inspired against his book OUR SOVIET UKRAINE. The book, which had a circulation of 100,000 copies, was withdrawn from sale and libraries. Shelest was removed from the Politburo of the CPSU Central Committee “for health reasons” and was forced to take retirement.

The Plan for the New Civil Code and the project for the establishment of the Codification Commission prepared for the Civil Reform Committee (1814–1815). Historical Source Edition As part of the source publication series begun in the second fascicle of the twelfth volume of Krakowskie Studia z Historii Państwa i Prawa [Krakow Studies in History of State and Law], we are publishing this time documents related to the preparation of the Civil Reform Committee, which operated in 1814–1815, to develop a new national civil code to replace the Napoleonic Code: 1. Wstęp przy wprowadzeniu planu do kodeksu cywilnego [Introduction to the Plan of Implementation of the Civil Code], 2. Plan Bieńkowskiego do nowego kodeksu cywilnego [Bieńkowski’s Plan for the New Civil Code], 3. Projekt Linowskiego do uformowania komisji mającej wygotowaćKsięgęprawa cywilnego i procedury [Linowski’s Plan for Forming a Commission to Prepare a Book of Civil Law and Procedure] and fragments of minutes of the Civil Reform Committee sessions regarding this draft. Source material on matrimonial law published in two last issues of the „Krakow Studies”in 2019 differed from the documents published in this fascicle because they were intended to serve only a partial reform of the Napoleonic Code envisaged for a temporary period, until a new civil code was developed. Antoni Bieńkowski presented his Plan for Implementation of the Civil Code at the session held on 20th November, 1814, less than a month after presenting the drafts of matrimonial law to the Civil Reform Committee (23rd October). The introductory part of the Plan presents the general assumptions regarding the works. They are followed by a list of the planned chapters and a justification of the adopted order. The actual Plan itself (second document) lists the same titles of chapters, along with the issues that should be regulated in a given place, and then it indicates where the models to follow could be sought. The debate related to the presentation of Bieńkowski’s Plan and the scope of activities in this field entrusted to the Committee by Emperor Alexander, took place at sessions held from 17th to 24th November. It ended with the preparation of Aleksander Linowski’s Plan for Forming a Commission to Prepare a Book of Civil Law and Procedure on 27th November. This document planned three stages of codification works: first, a 9-member commission was to draft both codes, and then departmental deputies were to work on them (first personally, and then representatives of them, with some Committee members). The last stage of preparatory works was to be comprised of meetings of five senators and members of the Council of State with selected Committee members and a representatives of departmental deputies.

This work edited by Christoph Brumann and David Berliner delivers what it promises, that is, a skilful bringingtogether of two equally legitimate approaches: a top-down one, which investigates UNESCO’s World Heritage Program as a global institution, and a grassroots one, which seeks for local applications and implications of patrimonial decisions taken “up there.” At the intersection of the authors’ views and interests, the general question of the book arises: “What does World Heritage actually do on the ground of the World Heritage properties, far away from the meeting halls where the committee takes its decisions?” The general answer, as Berliner puts it, is that “by attempting to preserve spaces, practices and objects, UNESCO experts and national heritage professionals effectively transform them.”

The importance of textbooks to the U.S. mathematics curriculum cannot be overstated. The recent rejection by the California State Board of Education of all fourteen text series submitted for adoption illustrates the public perception of the importance of textbooks. Begle (1973) pointed to data from the National Longitudinal Study of Mathematical Achievement to emphasize the important influence textbooks have on student learning, citing evidence that students learn what is in the text and do not learn topics not covered in the book. The National Advisory Committee on Mathematical Education (1975) acknowledged the importance of textbooks as guides for teachers. Fey (1980) emphasized the important influence of texts and pointed out that text content is usually not ba ed on research. Investigators at the Insti tute for Research on Teaching offer evidence that, at the very least, texts are important exercise sources (see Porter et al. 1986). The overall picture is that to a great extent the textbook defines the content of the mathematics that is taught in U.S. schools.

After defending her doctoral dissertation at Uppsala University in 2016, Dr. Iva Lučić edited the book In the Name of the Nation, translated from German into Bosnian by professor Sulejman Bosto. The book presents a comprehensive historical research of the genesis of the Muslim nation recognition in socialist Yugoslavia during the period 1956–1971. Based on the study of archival material in the institutions of the Yugoslav Federation and the Socialist Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina, as well as an insight into the reference literature, Dr. Iva Lučić scientifically elaborates one of the crucial historical questions for the development of Bosnia and Herzegovina’s statehood. It is about the recognition of the Muslim’s national subjectivity, which during the several decades course led to a positive historical outcome at the Central Committee of the League of Communists of Bosnia and Herzegovina’s 17th Session and at the implementation of the Yugoslav population census of 1971. In the book’s final part, Dr. Iva Lučić does a comprehensive historical and sociological-political synthesis of the wholeness of her research. The scientific findings released by Dr. Iva Lučić represent a contribution to the study and establishment of contemporary political history of Bosnia and Herzegovina in the 20th century.

The scenarios for journal articles that contain more than one language are no longer (and never really were) limited to having an article’s title, abstract, and keywords translated to additional languages. Journal Article Tag Suite (JATS) currently has a variety of structures for tagging articles that are in multiple languages or have substantial amounts of content in more than one language. However, these structures are not all coherent and are not up to the tasks of handling some common use cases. A subcommittee of the National Information Standards Organization (NISO) JATS Standing Committee (with participation from members of the Standards Tag Suite (STS) and Book Interchange Tag Suite (BITS) committees and some other invited experts) was formed, in 2021, with the goal of recommending changes to JATS to enable it to usefully encode multilingual articles. The subcommittee has recommended a set of changes that introduce new structures that can be available to JATS users who need them while minimizing the burden JATS users who rarely deal with multilingual content. Most of these changes are backward compatible with earlier versions of JATS. These changes are currently a work in progress and may become available in a future version of JATS. This paper presents a proposal for improving JATS to better support tagging multilingual articles with the hope of garnering feedback and suggestions from the JATS community.

This issue of Pure and Applied Chemistry is based on plenary lectures delivered at the International Conference on Modern Physical Chemistry for Advanced Materials (MPC '07), which took place 26-30 June 2007 in Kharkiv, Ukraine.The Conference was sponsored by IUPAC and the European Association for Chemical and Molecular Sciences, and organized by V. N. Karazin Kharkiv National University in cooperation with L. M. Litvinenko Institute of Physical Organic Chemistry and Coal Chemistry of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine (Donetsk, Ukraine) and the Physical Chemistry Department of the Ukrainian Chemical Society. Christian Amatore (Academy of Sciences of France) and Anatoliy Popov (National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine) were Chairmen of the International Scientific Committee and the International Organizing Committee, respectively. Professors Yuriy Kholin and Valentin Lebed (Kharkiv National University) headed the Local Organizing Committee and the Program Committee.The aim of the Conference was to review the physicochemical foundations of modern materials science and technology. At the same time, the event offered opportunities for Ukrainian physical chemists to strengthen international ties and collaboration, and to evaluate the status of modern physical chemistry in Ukraine against global criteria. In political and administrative science, it is a theoretical and practical issue of great significance. Since the Third Plenary Meeting of the 11th National Congress of the Chinese Commnity Party (CCP) Central Committee, China has established and carried out a policy of reform and openness that has set China on the fast lane of economic growth and brought about great change. One of the most important components of the reforms of the political, administrative, and economic systems is the transfer of power to lower levels and the adjustment of authority relations between governments. In the 21st century, the development and perfection of the socialist market economic system requires further adjustment of power and a scientific, rational distribution of authority between central and local governments. Further systematic research in this area is of great theoretical and practical significance.

The main mission of the National Library of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) is the formation of the documentary heritage of the indigenous peoples of the North, Siberia and the Far East. The document fund in the languages of the indigenous peoples of the North of the National Library of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) was formed from publications in five languages: Even, Evenki, Yukagir, Chukchi and Dolgan. The main principle by which the library fund was completed was an exhaustive collection of all published documents. The history of the book fund in the languages of the peoples of the North is divided into five chronological periods. The first period (1812—1917) is associated with the activities of the Russian Orthodox mission. The second (1918—1960) includes the creation of the Committee of the North (1924), the opening of the library (1925) and the beginning of the introduction of universal primary education in Yakutia. At that time, the People’s Commissariat of Education of the Yakut ASSR published and distributed the first ABC books for adults. The third period (1961—1990) was marked by the problem of publishing literature in the languages of the Evens, Yukagirs and Chukchi. In total, 3—5 books were published in the Even language per year, literature in other languages of the peoples of the North was not published. Languages were on the verge of extinction, there were no necessary conditions for their preservation. The fourth period (1991—2020) is associated with the completely destroyed book supply system in the early 1990s, the beginning of the commercialization of publishing. In 1990, the library was returned to the national status, which played a positive role in the formation of national and local history documents. The modern stage of the development of the book fund in the languages of the peoples of the North began in 2021, when the “Strategy for the Development of Librarianship in the Russian Federation for the period up to 2030” was adopted, which fixed the main tasks, directions and measures of state policy in the field of librarianship. In July 2022 The Government of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) has approved the “Strategy for the Development of Librarianship in the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) for the period up to 2032”, which defines the main tasks for the formation of a depository storage fund for documents in the languages of all indigenous peoples of the North, Siberia and the Far East. As of January 1, 2023, the document fund in the languages of the peoples of the North numbered 2,659 copies. Work continues to preserve the documentary heritage of the small peoples of the North. The electronic library of the National Library of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) is being developed, and the digital project “Knigakan: about the Arctic and the indigenous peoples of the North” is being implemented as part of it. The digital library of the indigenous peoples of the North, Siberia and the Far East “Knigakan” currently has 2,760 digitized documents that are in great demand among readers. The electronic publishing house of the National Library of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) plans to publish books in all languages of the small peoples of the North, including endangered languages, and preserve them for future generations. The long-term task is to create a depository storage fund for documents in the languages of all indigenous peoples of the North, Siberia and the Far East. This project should intensify efforts to preserve and ensure free access to the documentary heritage of indigenous minorities, the development of linguistic and cultural diversity of the peoples of Russia.

The presented article raises the problem of the Second World War in the context of the events that took place on its main direction — the Eastern Front, where, without exaggeration, the fate of all mankind was decided. The racial doctrine of Hitler's Nazism left no chance for the physical existence of most peoples, who were treated by it as inferior and those who could only be in slavery. Thus, on May 9, 1945, perpetuated not only the victory of one military bloc over another, but also the right of the human community to its diversity and life in conditions of racial and national equality, tolerance, and humanism. This article is devoted to the problem of covering the events of the war in book prints published in the Ukrainian SSR shortly after its end. The purpose of the presented research was to conduct a content analysis of previously unused and now forgotten books of 1945—1946 editions published in the USSR and devoted to the war of 1941—1945. The study involved literature of various genres, publishing volumes and purpose, namely: official documents (state and party), scientific works, memoirs (memoirs, memoirs), epistolary, fiction and poetry. Realizing this goal, the author worked on book prints published in several publishers of the Ukrainian SSR at that time, in particular, the Ukrainian State Publishing House (State Publishing House of Ukraine), the Ukrainian Publishing House of Political Literature (Political Publishing House of Ukraine), the State Publishing House of Fiction (Lithuania), the publishing house of Odessa State University named after I. Mechnikov, the publishing house of the Dnipropetrovsk regional committee of the Communist Party of the Bolsheviks of Ukraine. Based on this work, the author came to the conclusion that the printing press of the first postwar years laid a solid foundation of a huge literary community, which for many decades determined the public attitude to the events of the Great Patriotic War.

This interview was conducted by Ellen Colvin, Editor of Future Virology. Dr Jean-Michel Pawlotsky is a Professor of Medicine at the University of Paris-Est, France. He is the Director of the National Reference Center for Viral hepatitis B, C and D and of the Department of Virology at the Henri Mondor University Hospital in Créteil, France, and the Director of Research Team “Viruses-Hepatology-Cancers” at the Mondor Institute of Biomedical Research (INSERM U955). Dr Pawlotsky earned his medical degree in Hepatology and Gastroenterology in 1992. Furthermore, he earned a thesis in molecular virology from the University of Paris, France, and is a graduate in virology and microbiology. Dr Pawlotsky acted as the Secretary General of the European Association for the Study of the Liver (EASL) between 2005 and 2009. He is a member of the Strategic Committee of the National Agency for Research on AIDS and Viral Hepatitis (ANRS). Dr Pawlotsky's noted career contributions include 500 published articles and book chapters and over 650 invited lectures at international meetings.

Abstract These proceedings present the written contributions of the participants of the Seventh International Meeting for Researchers in Materials and Plasma Technology (7th IMRMPT), which was held from 7 to June 9, 2023, at the Cartagena de Indias City, Colombia, organized by the Foundation Of Researchers In Science and Technology Of Materials (FORISTOM); this was the 7th version of biennial meetings that began in 2011. The Journal of Physics: Conference Series (JPCS) proceedings volume consists of 10 contributions that were presented as talks at the conference; the abstracts of all participants’ contributions were published in the Abstract Book with ISSN 2422-3824. The scientific program of the 7th IMRMPT consisted of 8 Keynote Lectures and 121 Oral Presentations, with the participation of undergraduate and graduate students, professors, researchers, and entrepreneurs from Colombia, Spain, the United States of America, Mexico, Uruguay, Brazil, among others. The subject of this review is the book written by a famous German legal scholar, Angelika Nussberger, whose name is well known to the Russian legal academic community. Professor Nussberger was a judge in respect of Germany at the European Court of Human Rights from 2011 to 2019, and Vice-President of the Court in 2017–2019. The book, published in Oxford University Press, is a part of their series “Elements of International Law”, which explains its structure and comprehensive approach to the subject. The book embraces all important relevant topics of the Court’s activities, from its conception and the beginning of its activities as an optional jurisdiction up to its transformation to the most authoritative international court in the area of human rights protection. Special attention is paid to the Court’s role in the creation of human rights culture in Europe and worldwide. Other topics covered by the book include its organization and procedure before the Court; the evolution of the Court’s methodology; interaction with other «actors» on human rights law field (national and other international courts); enforcement of the Court’s judgments and its efficiency; the Court’s future: main challenges and perspectives. The book offers a very focused and concentrated narrative combined with a deep analysis and very personal sight of a judge at the Court and of a distinguished scholar. It may serve as a very useful source of information about the Court’s judicial doctrines, vividly discussed by the ECtHR observers. The author gives her own view on these doctrines and reveals many problematic aspects of their application by the Court. The book is abundant in illustrations how the doctrines in question have evolved. The special character of the book is that it combines the overview of the Court’s procedure (composition of the bench, the Registry’s tasks, interaction with the Committee of Ministers related to the execution of judgments) with the analysis of the Court’s role in the modern international law development. It distinguishes the book from other works on the Convention and the European Court of Human Rights. The extensive list of references on the Court and the Convention system makes the book a perfect guide on the matter for specialists and students. It may be concluded that the book will enter the «golden fund» of international law doctrine, and its translation into Russian would be very useful for the Russian legal audience.

This paper aims to examine the research achievements and challenges of Cho So-ang, an independence activist and “unification advocate”, who integrated theory and practice into the history of the Korean people's struggle for independence.
The “Samgyun Society”, established on National Foundation Day in 1975, played a pivotal role in expanding the research on Cho So-ang and the Three Principles of Equality (삼균주의). It inherited the accomplishments of the “Jo So-ang Book Compilation Committee”, launched in 1965, and published the “Jo So-ang Research Papers” from 1983 to the present, significantly influencing the advancement of the studies on the 'Three Principles of Equality.' As a result, the research on Cho So-ang and triequism has yielded 5 Ph.D. theses, 31 master's theses, 70 scholarly articles, and 23 books.
However, a substantial number of Cho So-ang's works remain undisclosed, and relevant data from China, Taiwan, and Europe regarding Cho So-ang's life and contributions have yet to be discovered, collected, and made public. Therefore, the attention and support of government bodies and research institutes are imperative.
The 'Three Principles of Equality,' championed by Cho So-ang, found resonance in Korean Independence Party during the Anti-Japanese War era, as well as in the principles and unwavering commitment of Korean Revolution Association. Furthermore, these principles were enshrined in the 'Proclamation of the Establishment of the Republic of Korea' by the Provisional Government of the Republic of Korea after liberation, and their significance was further underscored in the Constitution of the Republic of Korea.
The study and exploration of Cho So-ang's contributions to homeland liberation and national reunification, coupled with his foundational principles of Samgyunism, represent significant efforts towards uniting the divided nation. They remain crucial and timely objectives, demanding sustained attention and research in the years ahead.

Indonesian independence has caused change basically in political order and governance, also in Yogyakarta. This study aimed to Understand the concept of power changes in Yogyakarta from feudalism to democracy in local government. This study used the historical method, collecting data through a review of relevant archives, documents and previous research as well as related book references; analyzing to find the authenticity and credibility of sources; carry out interpretations with a political and sociological approach, to find historical, and produce a historiography of fundamental changes in politics and government in Yogyakarta. The results showed that there was a fundamental changed in the government structure. Yogyakarta, in time of the Duch colonial governance was a self-governing state or swapraja, Sultan as King. People’s involvement in determining policy of the government is realized through representative system. That is KNID (National Committee of Yogyakarta and DPRD (Regional Representative Council), and then holding General Election for selecting members of DPRD 1951, that is first general election in Indonesia. Transition from feudalism to democracy, caused Yogyakarta as special Regions, Sultan as governor.

There are plans to ban women from driving, voting and holding most jobs. ∗ A television playwright, fairly popular in official circles, wrote a line in his TV play: ‘It is human nature. Man wants change.’ The line was expunged from the play without the knowledge of the writer or the script editor. ∗ Four television cameramen of Rawalpindi-Islamabad television centre were sacked for irresponsibly commenting on the ‘referendum’ speech of General Zia-ul-Haq in December 1984. ∗ A censor committee insisted on deleting a close-up of a tearful eye in a film commercial saying that it was erotic. IntroductionPulmonary rehabilitation (PR) is a programme of individually prescribed physical exercise, education and self-management activities. PR is recommended in international guidelines for managing chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and other chronic respiratory diseases. PR is still under-recognised in tuberculosis (TB) guidelines and PR is not available in many low and middle-income countries and for people with post-TB lung disease (PTBLD). The main aims of the study are to adapt and define a culturally appropriate PR programme in Kyrgyzstan for people living with PTBLD and to test, in a fully powered randomised controlled trial (RCT), the effectiveness of PR in improving exercise capacity for people living with PTBLD.Methods and analysisThe study will be divided into three stages: stage 1: focus group discussions with patients living with PTBLD and interviews with PR referrers will be conducted to explore initial perceptions and inform the cultural adaptation, structure and content of PR. Stage 2a: a single-blind RCT evaluating the effectiveness of a culturally adapted 6-week PR programme on maximal exercise capacity, assessed by the incremental shuttle walking test, before and after PR. Participants will be additionally followed-up 12 weeks postbaseline. Additional outcomes will include health-related quality of life, respiratory symptoms, psychological well-being and physical function. Stage 2b: participants’ experience of PR will be collected through interviews and using a log book and a patient evaluation form. Staff delivering PR will be interviewed to explore their experience of delivering the intervention and refining the delivery for future implementation.Ethics and disseminationThe study was approved 22/07/2019 by Ethics Committee National Center for Cardiology and Internal Medicine (reference number 17) and by University of Leicester ethics committee (reference number 22293). Study results will be disseminated through appropriate peer-reviewed journals, national and international respiratory/physiotherapy conferences, social media, and through patient and public involvement events in Kyrgyzstan and in the UK.Trial registration numberISRCTN11122503.

The article considers the history of foundation and development of scientific libraries in Yakutia. In many ways, the opening of libraries was caused by the scientific interest in Siberia, the emergence of scientific and cultural-educational societies. Libraries strengthened the status of the societies and provided information support for their activities. The first scientific libraries were opened at the Yakut Regional Statistical Committee (1853), the Yakut Regional Museum (1891), the Yakut Department of the Agricultural Society (1899) and the Yakut Branch of the Imperial Russian Geographical Society (1913).The article notes the contribution of the State Public Scientific and Technical Library of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences and the National Library of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) to the study of history of libraries and librarianship in Siberia, including Yakutia. Particularly, the author describes the influence of political exiles on the formation of libraries and the development of culture in the region. The author focuses on the activities of the Yakut Regional Statistical Committee, which established one of the first special libraries, which later became the main one for scientific libraries. The article considers its activities as an integral part of scientific research in the Eastern Siberia, since the Committee not only collected statistical data on the region, but also supported research institutions, took part in organizing expeditions to study the region, etc. The author describes the role of the Secretary of the Committee, S.F. Saulsky, in the ordering and systematization of the library’s collection, as well as the role of A.I. Popov, state councillor, full member of the Imperial Russian Geographical Society, in the organization of the Yakut Regional Museum. The article reveals the activities of the museum library on selection of books and periodicals of scientific societies, Sibirika, local history literature and manuals for the identification of collections and their systematization. The library kept valuable materials: manuscripts, archival files, geographical maps, route maps, plans of cities, villages, dwellings of foreigners, etc. Academic expeditions of the 18th — first half of the 19th century made an invaluable contribution to the study of Siberia; and the Academy of Sciences gradually transferred the functions of specialized stationary scientific body to the Imperial Russian Geographical Society. The author attempts to trace the origins of the library at the Yakut Branch of the Russian Geographical Society. Attention is paid to the activities of the governor of affairs N.N. Gribanovsky, who identified one of the main directions of the library activity — creation of local history reference and bibliographic apparatus that reflects the literature about Yakutia.The article notes the general trends of scientific libraries: insufficient financing; acquisitions mostly consisted of donations and book exchange; involvement of political exiles in the work; limited access of readers (only for the staff or members of societies). The author reveals the fate of the first scientific libraries, whose collections were distributed among the libraries of Yakutsk and partially preserved in the historically formed library holdings.

On the eve of the 200th anniversary of the birth of Kristijonas Donelaitis (January 1, 1914), in Lithuania ruled by the Russian Empire, the press of the National Democrats and Liberal Democrats covered the efforts to erect a monument in honor of the poet (the idea arose in Lithuania Minor). It criticized the work of the committee that was in charge of the initiative, which was led by conservatives. The Catholic press was very reserved in its coverage of the initiatives of the memorial. The confessional aspect of the imagined Lithuanian national identity also hindered the involvement in a project that would unite the entire nation. In Russian-administered Lithuania, the emphasis was more on publications introducing Donelaitis’s personality and works. In the beginning of 1914, Kristijonas Duonelaitis’s Writings compiled by Jurgis Šlapelis was published in Vilnius; however, no public organization or institution sponsored the book. The difficulties in organizing activities to commemorate Donelaitis experienced by the Lithuanian Scientific Society testify to the fact that the poet had not yet been perceived as a national poet in Lithuania, and that there was a lack of coordinated work. In Russian ruled Lithuania, the articles and papers about Donelaitis by Juozas Gabrys Paršaitis, Mykolas Biržiška, Petras Leonas, Ignas Jurkūnas-Seinius, and Pranas Dovydaitis were overdue.With the outbreak of the war, the ambitions of the Catholic press to introduce the legacy of Donelaitis began to emerge. Some of the texts were used during the World War I for the purpose of Lithuanian cultural education. The studies of Gabrys-Paršaitis and Biržiška became an important part of the first literature textbooks of the Republic of Lithuania.
