Resumen
The prefix (or combining form) neo- is treated in Marchand (1969) as a revival of Ancient Greek [Formula: see text] `new'. In the present article it is argued that in reality most uses of neo- in the modern languages have not been taken from ancient Greek directly, but from Neo-Latin. European languages are shown to differ considerably with respect to the number of Neo-Latin patterns which they have integrated.

Resumen
Studies of the Latin tradition played a major role in the formation of Comparative Literature as a discipline. In spite of their shared origins, the disciplines of Neo-Latin studies and Comparative Literature are today rarely brought into dialogue with one another. This article argues that such dialogues can be mutually productive, and that Neo-Latin literature exemplifies, and itself engages with, some of the key problems at issue in the latest dispensations of Comparative Literature. Ideas of cosmopolitanism and transnationalism, of bilingualism and the dynamic interactions between languages, energized Neo-Latin writing (and energize Neo-Latin studies today). Writers in the post-classical Latin tradition devoted great efforts to working through many of the problems and dichotomies that interest comparatists today: from defining the ‘literary’, to asking what it means for literary forms and a literary language to cross historical, cultural, and national borders. Using the classical theme of recusatio (‘refusal’) as a case study, I explore the ways in which Neo-Latin writers thematized in their writing a sense of the continuity and universality of literature which was nevertheless always threatened by rupture and fragmentation.

Resumen
The 21st century is rightfully referred to as the post-secular period: the rebirth of religion can be seen practically everywhere. Latin America is no exception. Here, the evangelists (namely, neo-Pentecostals) are expanding their influence on an ever greater scale. The given paper examines the causes of this phenomenon; it also analyzes the theological concepts of neo-Pentecostals. The author arrives at the conclusion that neo-Pentecostals are becoming the most important political actor in all Latin American countries since they now represent the newly crystallizing moral needs of the population, now more than displeased with the liberal gender agenda. The author defines three models of neo – Pentecostals participation in the political life in various Latin American countries.

The study of the complex processes taking place in Latin American constitutionalism over the past three decades makes it possible to more objectively from the point of view of general legal theory and more accurately methodologically approach the definition of the basic characteristics, constituent elements and content of a new phenomenon called "Latin American neo-constitutionalism" or "new constitutionalism". On the example of innovations in the constitutions of Latin American countries, adopted in the late XX - early XXI centuries, the most typical thing that distinguishes modern Latin American neo-constitutionalism from European and North American constitutionalism is revealed

Resumen
In the twentieth–twenty-first centuries, Latin is used as the language of European culture, and not only in certain areas of intellectual life. Many scientific journals publish the main text of articles in national languages, accompany them with a Latin abstract, or find a place for Latin poems, humorous stories, crosswords, etc. Some journals were printed entirely in Latin e.g., Latinitas (Vatican), Palaestra Latina (Barcelona), Vox Latina (Saarbrucken), Vita Latina (Avignon), Orbis Latinus (Mendoza), Melissa (Brussels), etc. In the mid-twentieth century, a series of collections of Neo-Latin poetry written by individual authors (Hermann Weller [Tübingen, 1946], Hugo Enrico Paoli [Florence, 1961]), or multinational anthologies were published. Works inspired by dramatic events of history and social and political life of the twentieth–twenty-first centuries stand out among the galaxy of modern neo-Latinists: Hermann Weller’s elegy Y (Tübingen, 1937) – is a pro-foundly allegorical work, a vivid testimony of internal emigration; a collection of neo-Latin poems “Laudes Ukrainae” (“Praise to Ukraine”) by Anna Eliza Radke. “Laudes Ukrainae” includes more than 50 poems in which the poetess’s civic position and attitude to the Russian-Ukrainian war are directly and unequivocally stated. Most of the poems have six language versions: Latin, Ukrainian, Spanish, German, Polish, and French.

Resumen
Abstract The study of theories of actio is a basic part of Rhetoric which ought not to be neglected, especially when one is considering practical rather than literary rhetoric. The present study deals with neo-Latin ecclesiastical rhetoric and points out the differences between protestant and catholic notions about the phenomenon of preaching. The presence or absence of indications of actio permits a clear distinction among tendencies in neo-Latin theory. There is such a thing as actioin the Catholic sense, but not in the Protestant. Among catholic scholars, Fr. Luis de Granada stands out for his doctrinal focus and for the quantity of his reflections on this subject.

Resumen
The article considers the literary and stylistic peculiarities of Neo-Latin poetry in seventeenth to eighteenth-century Ukraine. Latin poetry of that time is marked by variability and diversity of genres, for it logically continued the classical traditions and at the same time was influenced by the aesthetics and poetics of the Baroque due to the interlingual contacts. The Latin language was supposed to be the main criterion of the high style in a poetry. As for the genre peculiarities, Neo-Latin poetry tended to panegyrics as the literature "fashion" of that epoch, when the poets expressed their gratitude and admiration to the philanthropists, whereas the elegic poems were the part of poetic courses to illustrate the genre. It explains the freedom and fantazy which are present in panegyric poetry and classical canon which served for writing elegies. The period of the seventeenth to the eighteenth century was an absolutely disparate one in both the political and social life of Ukraine. Rapid development of events, dramatically changing realia and values shaped very special attitudes to life with the contemporaries, in particular with Kyiv intellectual poets who wrote a significant number of works in Latin. Analysis of these works enables to characterize the development of the Latin language in Ukraine and consider Neo-Latin poetry of Ukraine as a part of the Western European literary and language unity.

Resumen
This article highlights the relationship between Neo-Latin Philology and Esperantology. Both these disciplines focus on a language that is non-native, international, and used in many different contexts. The benefit of Neo-Latin Philology for Esperantology can be expressed through the saying historia magistra vitae (history is life’s teacher), while, vice versa, Esperantology can fulfill its role in relation to Neo-Latin Philology in that it functions according to a modified version of this saying—namely, vita interpres historiae (life is history’s interpreter). More specifically, this article deals with the tract entitled Commentatio de hodierno linguae Latinae usu in litteris doctrinisque tradendis (A Commentary on the Use of the Latin Language in Scholarship and Education) which was written by F. H.L. Donckermann in 1826. In it, the author considers the advantages and disadvantiges of the use of vernacular languages in education and science, and he comes to the conclusion that a common international language, which for him is Latin, is necessary. Finally, he proposes a bilingual, Latin-vernacular model, while at the same time discussing the means through which this model could be continually maintained. The ideas and proposals of Donckermann correspond admirably to later development within the Esperanto community.

Resumen
The article concerns the possibility of using Latin as a means of communication by the medical community. It is an analysis leading to an answer to the question of the possibility of conveying in Latin the content, which determines the intellectual activity of a modern man. Meeting this challenge requires the introduction of new terms and phrases into Latin vocabulary. The currently used words in the field of medical devices and procedures will be discussed. Motivation of Neo-Latin terms, the reasons for the word transformation and the directions of these changes, as well as calques from modern languages and the issue of terms that can be called ‚loan words returning’ (i.e. words of Latin origin, which survived in modern languages and returned to the Neo-Latin vocabulary, following the path: Latin to modern languages to Latin) will be the subject of the analysis. Finally, it will be focused on the intelligibility and communicativeness of these terms. The purpose of the study was to draw attention to the enormous potential of Latin and to demonstrate that Latin (similarly to modern languages) has the opportunity to meet the challenges posed by significant technological progress and related to its requirement of creating new specialized terms.

Resumen
Religious poetry inevitably echoes the traditions and trends that are evident in the period. At first there are authors who followed paths that persisted well after the beginning of the sixteenth century, but pre-Reformation and Reformation attitudes were bound to mirror themselves among the writers, both in the vernacular and neo-Latin poetry. The ideas of the Reformation affect the neo-Latin poets especially during the 1530s, but they form, as it were, a bulge in the main current, modifying form and themes, but by the end of the period, conservative attitudes have re-established themselves. Neo-Latin may have benefited from the circumstances: Latin has some resonance beyond the frontiers as well as at home, and Protestant thinkers were not as hostile to the classics as may be assumed. There was perhaps a tendency—I will not say more—for censorship to be more lenient to a language that was not accessible to the menu peuple; and humanism, often associated with the new religious ideas, was open at an early stage to neo-classical and classical fashions. It is well known that the ‘lyric’ Horace, not popular at the closing of the Middle Ages, came first through the neo-Latin poets rather than through the Pléiade and its precursors. Horace was not unfamiliar to authors, even in the 1510s, though it was during the 1530s that his lyric poetry was familiar to poets, many of whom came to see what his metres could do for the psalm paraphrasts. In the 1520s or early 1530s, when the Sorbonne’s influence was mitigated, if not entirely reduced, this coincided with the growing interest in Erasmus and the themes he popularized. Regional centres acquired more vigour than Paris; in any case, pedagogic movement fostered the exchange of ideas. This does not mean a general trend towards Reformation in all neo-Latin circles; it is too simple to divide persons and attitudes by locations: many places had conservative attitudes and advanced views. Some Protestants fled to Geneva and beyond; here and there, authors did not publish all they had written in their lifetime; some were floaters whose thinking was affected by the passage of time or circumstance; for a few, discretion was the better part of valour, and one cannot trust literally what was said at any particular moment. And documents and printings suffered from the ravages of time and fortune.

Resumen
The article consists of two parts: theory and artistic practice. The first part examines the history of the concept of Latin American Neo-Baroque. It begins in European art history, first, when J. Burkhard characterized the Baroque as a certain period in the development of art; then, when G. Wölfflin presented the Baroque as a kind of “great style” and singled out its constitutive features; finally, when E. d’Ors formulated the theory of “eternal” styles, “classical” and “non-classical” (baroque) cyclically replacing each other. D’Ors’ concept was accepted and developed by Cuban writers J. Lezama Lima, A. Carpentier and S. Sarduy. Two factors led to the formation of the theory of Latin American Neo-Baroque. The first one is the richest layer of colonial art that developed in the Baroque style; the second one is the peculiarity of Latin American imago mundi, which from the very beginning was the opposite to rationality, system, order. The peculiarity of this imago mundi is revealed in the section “Artistic Practice. Motives”. The citations show that in Latin American literature are embodied such constants of Latin American imago mundi as chaos, predominance of curved lines, violation of European norms and mystery. The final part of the article presents an analysis of the four famous Latin American Neo-Baroque novels that reveal the poetics of this literary current on the level of imagery and motives and, most expressively, in style.
