Nesse trabalho fazemos um estudo sobre o campo escalar com massa na presença de potenciais e/ou fontes externos espacialmente localizadas. Os modelos considerados simulam a presença de fronteiras materiais assim como cargas em interação com o campo. Fazemos uma revisão de alguns resultados obtidos anteriormente na literatura e, posteriormente, propomos um modelo ainda não estudado, até onde sabemos. O modelo proposto simula a presença de uma superfície material localizada ao longo de um hiperplano onde, no limite em que a constante de acoplamento entre o campo e a superfície tende a infinito, mostramos que o modelo equivale a impor condições de Neumann sob o hiperplano. Dessa forma, interpretamos o modelo como um tipo de condição de Neumann generalizada para o campo.

Resumen
In the early 1980's, Alain Connes introduced a morphism between von Neumann algebras in order to define a property formerly defined only for groups and extending Kazhdan's property T. This morphism is called a correspondence. Let ${\cal M}$ and ${\cal N}$ be von Neumann algebras. A correspondence from ${\cal M}$ to ${\cal N}$ is a Hilbert space ${\cal H}$ which is an ${\cal N} - {\cal M}$ bimodule. Equivalently, a correspondence from ${\cal M}$ to ${\cal N}$ is a unital $\sp*$-representation of the algebraic tensor product ${\cal N} \odot\ {\cal M}\sp{o}$ which is normal when restricted to ${\cal N} \odot$ 1 and 1 $\odot\ {\cal M}\sp{o}$. In this thesis, we show that a correspondence is indeed a morphism between von Neumann algebras and we show its link to two other morphisms between von Neumann algebras: normal involutive algebra homomorphisms and completely positive normal linear maps. To achieve this objective, we study some important examples of von Neumann algebras and the Tomita-Takesaki theory.

Dada uma álgebra de von Neumann M em L(H), onde L(H) é o espaço dos operadores lineares e limitados sobre um espaço de Hilbert H, dizemos que M é um fator se seu centro consiste somente por múltiplos escalares do operador identidade de L(H). Quando M é um fator, podemos classificá-lo em tipo I, II e III. Além disso, o tipo II pode ser dividido em dois sub-tipos. In this paper the following conjecture is studied: the group von Neumann algebra N(G) is a flat CG-module if and only if the group G is locally virtually cyclic. This paper proves that if G is locally virtually cyclic, then N(G) is flat as a CG-module. The converse is proved for the class of all elementary amenable groups without infinite locally finite subgroups. Foundational cases for which the conjecture is shown to be true are the groups G=Z, G=ZxZ, G=Z*Z, Baumslag-Solitar groups, and some infinitely-presented variations of Baumslag-Solitar groups. Modules other than N(G), such as L^p-spaces and group C*-algebras, are considered as well. The primary tool that is used to achieve many of these results is group homology.

In a 1993 preprint Guyan Robertson proved that every uniformly bounded representation of a discrete group on a finite von Neumann algebra is similar to a unitary representation. We have since discovered that this result was first proved in a paper of Vasilescu and Zsido, published in 1974 (VZ). In this thesis we generalise this result for discrete groupoids, proving that every uniformly bounded cocycle into a finite von Neumann algebra is cohomologous to a unitary cocycle. The corresponding result for cocycles into finite dimensional algebras was proved in (Zim3). We also derive some equivalent definitions of amenability of group actions and provide a new proof of a result of Zimmer regarding uniformly bounded cocycles on amenable G-spaces. We develop some machinery in order to prove these results. This is the theory of ${\cal G}$-flows in which we explore the actions of groupoids on Borel fields of sets. Our development of this theory follows that of the usual theory of flows from topological dynamics.

The main subsect of this thesis is the theory of Lifshits-Krein spectral shift function in semifinite von Neumann algebras and its connection with the theory of spectral flow. Main results are an analogue of the Krein trace formula for semifinite von Neumann algebras, the semifinite analogue of the Birman-Solomyak spectral averaging formula, a connection between the spectral shift function and the spectral flow and a Lidskii type formula for Dixmier traces. In particular, it is established that in the case of operators with compact resolvent, the spectral shift function and the spectral flow are identical notions.

In this thesis are presented extensions to the theory of completely bounded operators and their relation to the Haagerup tensor product. The canonical map from the Haagerup tensor product of a von Neumann algebra with itself to the space of completely bounded operators on it is considered. A trace-like map on the space of completely bounded operators on the hyperfinite type II1 factor is constructed and is shown to yield an estimate for the Jones index when applied to a conditional expectation.

In this work we talk about properties of the Dirichlet-to-Neumann map for the conductivity equation in a smooth manifold with boundary of R2. We use several times the Maximum Principle to conclude a Alternating Property of the Dirichlet-to- Neumann map. Using this property, we and that the Kernel satises a given set of inequalities. Finally, we note that these inequalities imply the Alternating Property of the Kernel of the Dirichlet-to-Neumann map.
Neste trabalho dissertamos sobre Propriedades do Funcional de Dirichlet-Neumann para uma equação de condutividade numa variedade diferenciavel bidimensional com bordo. Utilizamos varias vezes o Principio do Maximo para concluir que esse Funcional tem uma Propriedade Alternada. A partir dessa propriedade, verificamos que o Nucleo do Funcional satisfaz um conjunto especifico de desigualdades. Porém, verificamos que essas desigualdades implicam na Propriedade Alternada do Nucleo do Funcional.

Resumen
Through von Neumann's reduction theory, the classification of injective von Neumann algebras acting on separable Hilbert spaces translates into the classification of injective factors. In his proof of the uniqueness of the injective type II₁ factor, Connes showed an alternate characterization of the approximately inner automorphisms of type II₁ factors. Moreover, he conjectured that this characterization could be extended to all types of factors acting on separable Hilbert spaces. In this thesis, we present a general toolbox containing the basic notions needed to study von Neumann algebras, before describing our work concerning Connes' conjecture in the case of type IIIλ factors. We have obtained partial results towards the proof of a modified version of this conjecture.

S'etant une surface a bord, on s'interesse aux solutions d'une equation de poisson-helmholtz dans le complementaire de s, et verifiant des conditions de neumann sur chaque face de l'ecran s et une condition de radiation a l'infini. On etudie le cas ou le second membre f de l'equation de poisson-helmholtz est dans un espace a poids a l'infini et ou les donnees de neumann peuvent etre singulieres (masse de dirac par exemple). On donne un resultat d'existence et d'unicite pour les solutions u qui sont d'energie finie pres du bord de l'ecran. L'unicite est obtenue de facon classique par la condition de rellich. L'existence est montree par une methode de perturbation du probleme libre dans le cas des conditions de neumann homogenes, puis par relevement dans le cas non homogene. Un resultat de regularite de u est etabli, dans le cas d'une surface plane polygonale a angle droit ou complementaire d'un angle droit, en utilisant une formule de representation de u basee sur les techniques de wiener-hopf. On donne ensuite une formule de representation integrale generale de la solution u a l'aide de differents potentiels ; ce qui permet de ramener la resolution du probleme exterieur a la resolution d'une equation integrale hypersinguliere sur s. L'approximation numerique de u est faite par l'intermediaire de sa representation integrale, l'approximation de la solution de l'equation integrale etant faite par une methode d'elements finis d'ordre 1, nuls sur le bord de s, et avec un maillage uniforme. Des resultats numeriques sont donnes dans le cas d'un ecran plan carre et de donnees de neumann nulle sur une face de l'ecran et egale a une masse de dirac sur l'autre. Les tests numeriques ont permis de confirmer les estimations d'erreurs theorique

Dans cette thèse nous considérons l'opérateur de Dirichet-Neumann Lambda-gamma qui à toute donnée f sur le bord d'un domaine régulier borné D, associe le flux sortant à travers le bord du domaine, qui représente la dérivée normale de la solution de l'équation de conductivité électrique. Nous montrons que cet opérateur engendre un semigroupe S(t) analytique, compact, irréductible de Markov et à contraction. Nous étudions le comportement asymptotique de ce semigroupe dans l'espace des fonctions continues. Puis en généralisant la construction explicite du semigroupe de P. D. Lax, nous définissons une famille d'opérateurs V(t) qui converge au sens de Chernoff vers S(t). Nous démontrons les caractères régularisant et compact de V(t). Finalement, nous présentons des résultats numériques sur les valeurs propres de l'opérateur Lambda -gamma, par les méthodes de Prony et "Matrix Pencil"
In this thesis we consider the Dirichet-Neumann operator lambda-gamma which, to every datum f on the edge of a bounded smooth domain D, associates a current flux across a boundary, where represent a normal derivative of solution of the electrical conductivity equation. We show that lambda-gamma generates a semigroup S (t) analytic, compact, irreducible of Markov and contractive. We study the asymptotic behaviour of this semigroup in a space of continuous functions. Then, by a generalization of the Lax semigroup, we define the family of operators V (t) which converges in the sense of Chernoff to S (t). We show the compactness and regularizing characters of V (t). Finally, we present numerical results on the eigenvalues of lambda-gamma by methods of Prony and "Matrix Pencil"

Chifan, Kida, and myself introduced a new class of non-amenable groups denoted by ${\bf NC} \cap {\bf Quot}(\mathcal C_{rss})$ which gives rise to \emph{prime} von Neumann algebras. This means that for every $\G\in {\bf NC} \cap {\bf Quot}(\mathcal C_{rss})$ its group von Neumann algebra $L(\G)$ cannot be decomposed as a tensor product of diffuse von Neumann algebras. The class ${\bf NC} \cap {\bf Quot}(\mathcal C_{rss})$ is fairly large as it contains many natural examples of groups, some intensively studied in various areas of mathematics: all infinite central quotients of pure surface braid groups; all mapping class groups of (punctured) surfaces of genus $0,1,2$; most Torelli groups and Johnson kernels of (punctured) surfaces of genus $0,1,2$; and, all groups hyperbolic relative to finite families of residually finite, exact, infinite, proper subgroups. In a separate investigation, de Santiago and myself were able to extend the previous techniques that allowed us to eliminate the usage of the {\bf NC} condition and ultimately classify all the possible tensor factorization of the von Neumann algebras of groups that belong solely to ${\bf Quot}(\mathcal C_{rss})$. This provides a far-reaching generalization of the aforementioned primeness results; for instance, we were able to show that if $\Gamma$ is a poly-hyperbolic group, then whenever we have a tensor decomposition $L(\G)\cong P_1\bar\otimes P_2 \bar \otimes \cdots \bar\otimes P_n$ then there exists a product decomposition $\G\cong \G_1\times \G_2 \times \cdots \times \G_n$ with $\G_i \in {\bf Quot}(\mathcal C_{rss})$ and, up to amplifications, we have $L(\G_i)\cong P_i$ for all $i=1,n$.

In this work we will obtain four main results of existence of weak solution, three of them to elliptic partial di_erential systems with nonlinear boundary conditions and the other to elliptic partial di_erential equations with nonlinear boundary conditions associated with operator p-laplacian. These results will be obtained when there is a kind of interaction among the reaction nonlinearities and the Neumann spectra and an interaction among the boundary nonlinearities and the Steklov spectra, associated with the systems or equations. The tool that we will use is fundamentally based on minimax methods in critical point theory.
Obteremos no presente trabalho quatro principais resultados de existência de solução fraca, três deles para sistemas de equações diferenciais parciais elípticas com condições de fronteira não lineares e o outro para equações diferenciais com condições de fronteira não lineares associadas ao operador p-laplaciano. Estes resultados serão obtidos quando houver uma certa interação entre as não linearidades de reação e o espectro de Neumann, e uma interação entre as não linearidades de fronteira e o espectro de Steklov, associados aos sistemas ou equações. A técnica que utilizaremos está, fundamentalmente, baseada em métodos de minimax da teoria do ponto crítico.

O objetivo desse trabalho é estudar a Conjectura de Hanna Neumann, que surgiu a partir do conhecido resultado provado por Howson e fornece um limitante para o posto da interseção de dois subgrupos finitamente gerados de um grupo livre. Serão apresentados alguns resultados intermediários desde 1957, ano em que a conjectura foi proposta, até sua demonstração em 2011. Apresentaremos a demonstração feita por Igor Mineyev em [18] e a versão de Warren Dicks, a qual simplificou a primeira prova dada por Mineyev em [17]. Além disso, será apresentado um resultado que garante que o limite proposto por Hanna Neumann é o melhor possível.
The purpose of this work is studying the Hanna Neumann Conjecture, that came from the theorem proved by Howson and gives a upper bound for the rank of the intersection of two finitely generated subgroups of a free group. We shall present some intermediate results since 1957, year in which the conjecture was proposed, until be proved in 2011. We shall give the proof presented by Igor Mineyev in [18] and the version of Warren Dicks that simplified the first Mineyev's proof in [17]. Moreover, we shall present a result that says the upper bound suggested by the Hanna Neumann conjecture cannot be improved.

Tendencies of development and firm's weak points for past 6 years have been discovered by using various analysis. I was comparing change of individual indicators with the main indicator rentability on equity. The conclusion of my study is:" In case of increase in rentability on equity, we can expect improvement also of other indicators."

Much of operator theory hangs its coat on the spectral theorem, but the latter is exclusive to normal operators. Likewise, isometries are well understood via the Wold decomposition. It is von Neumann's inequality that enables a functional calculus for arbitrary contractions on Hilbert spaces. There are essentially two avenues that lead to von Neumann, one being the analytical theory of positive maps, the other marked by geometric dilation theorems. These diverse lines of approach are in fact unified by the inequality. Although our main focus is von Neumann's inequality, for which we provide four different proofs, we shall, however, periodically indulge in some of its intricate cousins.

Ma thèse porte sur le problème de la classification à isomorphisme près de certaines algèbres de von Neumann. En effet, j'étudie des familles de facteurs de type III provenant de deux contextes très différents : la théorie ergodique et la théorie des probabilités libres de Voiculescu. Mon premier travail a été de construire le produit croisé d'un facteur de type II infini par un sous-groupe virtuel de R, c'est-à-dire un flot libre, ergodique préservant une mesure. La construction obtenue est un facteur de type III_1. Dans le cas où le facteur de type II infini est plein, utilisant un résultat de Popa, je classifie complètement cette construction en montrant qu'elle dépend du flot à conjugaison près. Mon second travail a été de classifier certains produits libres d'algèbres de von Neumann hyperfinies selon des états non-traciaux presque périodiques. Je classifie complètement certains de ces produits libres en montrant qu'ils sont isomorphes aux facteurs d'Araki-Woods libres presque périodiques de Shlyakhtenko. Ils ne dépendent ainsi que du groupe de valeurs engendrés par les états
My thesis deals with the problem of classifying up to isomorphism certain von Neumann algebras. Indeed, I study families of factors of type III arising from two different contexts : ergodic theory and Voiculescu's free probability theory. First, I construct the crossed product of a factor of type II infinity by a virtual subgroup of R, Le. , a measure preserving free ergodic flow. What I obtain is a factor of type III_1. In the case the factor of type II infinity is full, using a result of Popa, I completely classify this construction by proving that it only depends on the flow up to conjugation. After that, I classify certain free products of hyperfinite von Neumann algebras with respect to almost periodic nontracial states. I completely classify some of these free products by showing that they are isomorphic to the almost periodic free Araki-Woods factors of Shlyakhtenko. Thus, they only depend on the group generated by the point spectra of the states

Dans cette thèse je m'intéresse à des propriétés de rigidité de certaines constructions d'algèbres de von Neumann. Ces constructions relient la théorie des groupes et la théorie ergodique au monde des algèbres d'opérateurs. Il est donc naturel de s'interroger sur la force de ce lien et sur la possibilité d'un enrichissement mutuel dans ces différents domaines. Le Chapitre II traite des actions Gaussiennes. Ce sont des actions de groupes discrets préservant une mesure de probabilité qui généralisent les actions de Bernoulli. Dans un premier temps, j'étudie les propriétés d'ergodicité de ces actions à partir d'une analyse de leurs algèbres de von Neumann (voir Theorem II.1.22 et Corollary II.2.16). Ensuite, je classifie les algèbres de von Neumann associées à certaines actions Gaussiennes, à isomorphisme près, en montrant un résultat de W*-Superrigidité (Theorem II.4.5). Ces résultats généralisent des travaux analogues sur les actions de Bernoulli ([KT08,CI10,Io11,IPV13]).Dans le Chapitre III, j'étudie les produits libres amalgamés d'algèbres de von Neumann. Ce chapitre résulte d'une collaboration avec C. Houdayer et S. Raum. Nous analysons les sous-Algèbres de Cartan de tels produits libres amalgamés. Nous déduisons notamment de notre analyse que le produit libre de deux algèbres de von Neumann n'est jamais obtenu à partir d'une action d'un groupe sur un espace mesuré.Enfin, le Chapitre IV porte sur les algèbres de von Neumann associées à des groupes hyperboliques. Ce chapitre est obtenu en collaboration avec A. Carderi. Nous utilisons la géométrie des groupes hyperboliques pour fournir de nouveaux exemples de sous-Algèbres maximales moyennables (mais de type I) dans des facteurs II_1
The purpose of this dissertation is to put on light rigidity properties of several constructions of von Neumann algebras. These constructions relate group theory and ergodic theory to operator algebras.In Chapter II, we study von Neumann algebras associated with measure-Preserving actions of discrete groups: Gaussian actions. These actions are somehow a generalization of Bernoulli actions. We have two goals in this chapter. The first goal is to use the von Neumann algebra associated with an action as a tool to deduce properties of the initial action (see Corollary II.2.16). The second aim is to prove structural results and classification results for von Neumann algebras associated with Gaussian actions. The most striking rigidity result of the chapter is Theorem II.4.5, which states that in some cases the von Neumann algebra associated with a Gaussian action entirely remembers the action, up to conjugacy. Our results generalize similar results for Bernoulli actions ([KT08,CI10,Io11,IPV13]).In Chapter III, we study amalgamated free products of von Neumann algebras. The content of this chapter is obtained in collaboration with C. Houdayer and S. Raum. We investigate Cartan subalgebras in such amalgamated free products. In particular, we deduce that the free product of two von Neumann algebras is never obtained as a group-Measure space construction of a non-Singular action of a discrete countable group on a measured space.Finally, Chapter IV is concerned with von Neumann algebras associated with hyperbolic groups. The content of this chapter is obtained in collaboration with A. Carderi. We use the geometry of hyperbolic groups to provide new examples of maximal amenable (and yet type I) subalgebras in type II_1 factors

Emerging VLSI/ULSI technologies have created new opportunities in designing computer architectures capable of hiding the latencies and synchronization overheads associated with von Neumann-style multiprocessing. Pure Dataflow architectures have been suggested as solutions, but they do not adequately address the issues of local memory latencies and fine-grain synchronization costs. In this thesis, we propose a novel hybrid dataflow/von Neumann architecture, called the Super-Actor Machine, to address the problems facing von Neumann and pure dataflow machines. This architecture uses a novel high-speed memory organization known as a register-cache to tolerate local memory latencies and decrease local memory bandwidth requirements. The register-cache is unique in that it appears as a register file to the execution unit, while from the perspective of main memory, its contents are tagged as in conventional caches. Fine-grain synchronization costs are alleviated by the hybrid execution model and a loosely-coupled scheduling mechanism.
A major goal of this dissertation is to characterize the performance of the Super-Actor Machine and compare it with other architectures for a class of programs typical of scientific computations. The thesis includes a review on the precursor called the McGill Dataflow Architecture, description of a Super-Actor Execution Model, a design for a Super-Actor Machine, description of the register-cache mechanism, compilation techniques for the Super-Actor Machine and results from a detailed simulator. Results show that the Super-Actor Machine can tolerate local memory latencies and fine-grain synchronization overheads--the execution unit can sustain 99% throughput--if a program has adequate exposed parallelism.
