Resumen
Magnetorheological finishing (MRF) is a precision optical finishing process traditionally limited to processing only nonmagnetic materials, e.g., optical glasses, ceramics, polymers, and metals. Here we demonstrate that MRF can be used for material removal from magnetic material surfaces. Our approach is to place an MRF spot on machined surfaces of magnetic WC-Co materials. The resulting surface roughness is comparable to that produced on nonmagnetic materials. This spotting technique may be used to evaluate the depth of subsurface damage, or deformed layer, induced by earlier manufacturing st

The phenomenon of anomalous localized resonance (ALR) is observed at the interface between materials with positive and negative material parameters and is characterized by the fact that when a given source is placed near the interface, the electric and magnetic fields start to have very fast and large oscillations around the interface as the absorption in the materials becomes very small while they remain smooth and regular away from the interface. The bonding discontinuity at the interface between magnetic and nonmagnetic oxides is at the origin of a form of low dimensional magnetism in the otherwise nonmagnetic material. Its origin is the splitting of its bands due to the hybridization with the exchange split bands of the magnetic material. Resumen
This paper presents the results of inspecting tensile stress-loaded GFRP (glass fiber-reinforced polymer) samples using the Magnetic Recording Method (MRM). The MRM can be utilized solely to examine ferromagnetic materials. The modification was proposed in order to examine nonmagnetic composites. Ferromagnetic strips made of low-carbon steel DC01 were bonded to the surface using an adhesive composed of epoxy resin with the addition of triethylenetetramine. The modified method’s feasibility was tested on six samples made of GFRP. The research procedure consisted of three steps. In the first ste

The sintered neodymium-iron-boron (Nd-Fe-B) material is used in most of PM machines. The kind of PM materials has small tensile strength and cannot withstand large centrifugal force due to high rotational velocity. A nonmagnetic steel enclosure is needed to cover the PM material. The tensile stress of the PM can reduced by pre-pressure applied to the outer surface of the PM through shrink-fitting into the enclosure. Based on the elasticity theory and the elastic-plastic contact theory, in soft ANSYS it is feasibility to establish a finite element mechanical model of interference fit between th

Purpose Discrete eigenvalues occur in eddy current problems in which the solution domain was truncated on its edge. In case of conductive material with a hole, the eigenvalues are complex numbers. Their computation consists of finding complex roots of a complex function that satisfies the electromagnetic interface conditions. The purpose of this paper is to present a method of computing complex eigenvalues that are roots of such a function. Design/methodology/approach The proposed approach involves precise determination of regions in which the roots are found and applying sets of initial point

A method, MIM (magnetic interrogation method), is proposed for nondestructive measurement of radiation damage of nuclear reactor pressure vessels. The method relies on good correlation between the levels of radiation-induced hardness change and magnetic coercivity change in pressure vessel steel. A part of the pressure vessel to be inspected is magnetized with two-pole magnetic yokes through the overlay clad of nonmagnetic stainless steel, and magnetic field distributions on the surface of overlay clad are measured in the vicinity of the poles of magnetic yokes. Then, the coercivity distributi

It is all known that the BN sheet is a nonmagnetic wide-band-gap semiconductor. Using Density Function Theory (DFT), the lattice parameters of Cr doped BN sheets were optimized, which were still kept on 2D planar geometry, and the band gap was studied. The simulation results show that the band gap is very easy to be tuned by Cr doped BN sheet, which is more stable structure. So Cr doped BN sheet is a promising material in modulating the band gap and through tuning the band gap it can be a highly efficient photocatalytic material et al. A water-in-oil microemulsion method was used for the preparation of silica-coated permalloy (Ni0.80Fe0.20) nanoparticles. The particles were prepared by the reduction of their salts with sodium borohydride NaBH4 in a cationic water-in-oil (w/o) microemulsion of water/cetyltrimethyl- amonium bromide (CTAB) and n-butanol/isooctane at 25oC. According to the TEM and x-ray diffraction analyses, the synthesized material was in the form of nanoparticles. The magnetization of the silica-coated nanoparticles was lower than that of the uncoated particles, reflecting the influence of the nonmagnetic sili

Many materials have been investigated in terms of layering, bi-material and also co-injection molding process. The two materials may be metal-metal, ceramic-ceramic and metal-ceramic depending on the capabilities requirement. Several techniques have been discussed in this paper regarding improving the hardness properties, magnetic/nonmagnetic and many more. This paper focused on reviewing the

Magnetic anisotropy (MA) is one of the most important material properties for modern spintronic devices. Conventional manipulation of the intrinsic MA, i.e., magnetocrystalline anisotropy (MCA), typically depends upon crystal symmetry. Extrinsic control over the MA is usually achieved by introducing shape anisotropy or exchange bias from another magnetically ordered material. Here we demonstrate a pathway to manipulate MA of 3d transition-metal oxides (TMOs) by digitally inserting nonmagnetic 5d TMOs with pronounced spin–orbit coupling (SOC). We report a dramatic change in the intensity of a Raman mode with applied magnetic field, displaying a gigantic magneto-optical effect. Using the nonmagnetic layered material MoS2 as a prototype system, we demonstrate that the application of a magnetic field perpendicular to the layers produces a dramatic change in intensity for the out-of-plane vibrations of S atoms, but no change for the in-plane breathing mode. The distinct intensity variation between these two modes results from the effect of field-induced broken symmetry on Raman scattering cross-section. A quantitative analysis on the fi

Iron-containing particulate catalysts of 0.1–1 µm size were prepared by wet and ball-milling procedures from common salts and characterized by FTIR, TGA, UV-Vis, PXRD, FEG-SEM, and XPS analyses. It was found that when the wet method was used, semi-spherical magnetic nanoparticles were formed, whereas the mechanochemical method resulted in the formation of nonmagnetic microscale needles and rectangles. Catalytic activity of the prepared materials in the oxidation of 1-phenylethanol to acetophenone was assessed under conventional heating, microwave (MW) irradiation, ultrasound (US), and oscillat
