This paper presents a case study of how GfK NOP is moving one of the UK's major market measurement studies online. In this case study we share our learning and illustrate, with empirical data, the limits and possibilities that panel-based research offers in this most demanding arena for online research. Our conclusion is that, in this instance, it is inappropriate to replace the traditional face-to-face methodology with a wholly online solution, but that, instead, a multi-modal approach that combines face-to-face with online interviewing is the way forward.

Our approach has been to build excellence by adopting a new organisational form known as the ‘community of practice’ approach. This approach is emerging in companies that seek excellence as it promises to galvanise knowledge sharing, learning and change. It has led them into a world where the avatar has been conducting interviews in Second Life and they have been using social networks for research purposes. It is believed this approach will produce market researchers who are more attuned to client requirements of the future, and could possibly retain more talent within the industry, as it allows new entrants to see how they can contribute to the development of methods, techniques and products, and creates a better sense of belonging to the industry.

Organic vegetables produced in greenhouses and other controlled environments may fill a unique market niche as consumers demand local, high vegetables year round. However, limited technical information supports these production systems and more research is needed to provide recommendations for appropriate substrate mixes and nutrient management. Compost can be used as a substitute for peat-based media, and research results vary widely based on feedstock, compost method, and proportion used in mixes. Most studies consider compost in terms of peat-substitute or replacement and not as a source of fertility in soilless systems. Common challenges in using compost in soilless media are due to immaturity of the compost, poor water holding capacity, and unbalanced salinity and pH. It is possible to certify organic soilless production systems; however, the National Organic Program (NOP) of the U.S. Department of Agriculture has not yet provided clear rules and requirements supporting these systems. The objective of this article is to review the literature on soilless organic vegetable production, summarize results from the more widely studied topic of vegetable transplant production, and point to future research for organic agriculture.

A method of high-speed to determine some negative ions and their contents in vegetable by ion chromatography is proposed in this paper, which was based on the research of 2 negative ions in 16 kinds of vegetable from Hainan Danzhou market. This method is of easy usage, high-speed, good reappearance and the result is satisfactory. The correlation coefficients(r) of NO2- and NO3- were 0.9998 and 0.9991. Relative standard deviations (RSD) were 0.65% and 0.04%, respectively.By the determination of NO2-, and NO3- in vegetable, the results indicated that the contents of negative ions in different vegetables (the organ for eating) are fairly different.

Abstract Theoretical research has modelled the existence of so-called advertising-circulation spirals of newspapers. The present article examines the existence and shape of the growth functions of circulation for leading regional newspapers in Finland, and assesses their effects on their competitors. The article also provides results on the household coverage of the regionally leading newspapers. Our results enable us to draw conclusions concerning the level of convergence of the market shares of the larger newspapers, and the possibilities of the minority newspapers to survive. The findings relate directly to the assessment of competition in the market of newspaper publishing, as economic analysis has already shown that difference in size between the two largest firms may define the scope for dominance. Consequently, the results may have implications for assessments of the relevant market and the state of the competition, and claims concerning dominance in newspaper markets

Abstract The paper presents the results of a comparison of the development of mean offer and transaction prices per 1m2 in primary and secondary residential real estate markets in 16 provincial capital cities in Poland, during the time period from the 3rd quarter of 2006 to the 3rd quarter of 2012. The quarterly data came from the residential real estate price database of the National Bank of Poland (NBP). The research concerns the dependencies in the residential real estate market between the following four price categories: offer prices in the primary market, transaction prices in the primary market, offer prices in the secondary market and transaction prices in the secondary market. For each city, the dynamics of each price category per 1m2, the existence of a linear correlation between the individual mean price categories in chosen subintervals and their convergence and variability in time were studied and compared.

(1) Plasma-activated liquids (PAL) have been extensively studied for their anti-cancer properties. Two treatment modalities can be applied to the cells, direct and indirect plasma treatments, which differ by the environment to which the cells are exposed. For direct plasma treatment, the cells covered by a liquid are present during the plasma treatment time (phase I, plasma ON) and the incubation time (phase II, plasma OFF), while for indirect plasma treatment, phase I is cell-free and cells are only exposed to PAL during phase II. The scope of this work was to study these two treatment modalities to bring new insights into the potential use of PAL for cancer treatment. (2) We used two models of head and neck cancer cells, CAL27 and FaDu, and three models of normal cells (1Br3, NHK, and RPE-hTERT). PBS was used as the liquid of interest, and the concentration of plasma-induced H2O2, NO2− and NO3−, as well as pH change, were measured. Cells were exposed to direct plasma treatment, indirect plasma treatment or reconstituted buffer (PBS adjusted with plasma-induced concentrations of H2O2, NO2−, NO3− and pH). Metabolic cell activity, cell viability, lipid peroxidation, intracellular ROS production and caspase 3/7 induction were quantified. (3) If we showed that direct plasma treatment is slightly more efficient than indirect plasma treatment and reconstituted buffer at inducing lipid peroxidation, intracellular increase of ROS and cancer cell death in tumor cells, our data also revealed that reconstituted buffer is equivalent to indirect plasma treatment. In contrast, normal cells are quite insensitive to these two last treatment modalities. However, they are extremely sensitive to direct plasma treatment. Indeed, we found that phase I and phase II act in synergy to trigger cell death in normal cells and are additive concerning tumor cell death. Our data also highlight the presence in plasma-treated PBS of yet unidentified short-lived reactive species that contribute to cell death. (4) In this study, we provide strong evidence that, in vitro, the concentration of RONS (H2O2, NO2− and NO3−) in combination with the acidic pH are the main drivers of plasma-induced PBS toxicity in tumor cells but not in normal cells, which makes ad hoc reconstituted solutions powerful anti-tumor treatments. In marked contrast, direct plasma treatment is deleterious for normal cells in vitro and should be avoided. Based on our results, we discuss the limitations to the use of PAL for cancer treatments.

We have used data on patents and publications, and from an Internet-based survey, to analyse corporate technological activities in Automatic Speech Recognition (ASR) and Natural Language Processing (NLP) technologies. Two distinct clusters of firms exist: large firms mainly in telecommunications, desktop computing and consumer electronics; and small firms specialising in speech technologies. The small specialised firms depend heavily on nearby universities and public research institutes and, to some extent, on nearby large firms; their relations with the large firms are complementary as well as competitive. Similar patterns can be observed in other, recently emerging, "new science"-based technologies. Integration between ASR and NLP has so far been weak with the two research communities functioning more or less independently, with the former progressing more rapidly than the latter. Having built technological capabilities in ASR and NLP with a small proportion of their corporate technological resources, the large firms have two options depending on the rate of progress in these technologies (especially NLP) in the future. If it is high, substantial investments (including those in complementary technologies) could open up massive market opportunities. If it is low, modest investments will allow the exploitation of niche markets.

This article analyses the reasons and impact of shift of manufacturing startups from the United States to overseas. After years of refining prototypes and perfecting pilot plants, advanced manufacturing startups frequently look overseas when it is time to scale-up for commercial production. Both manufacturing and technology companies go abroad looking for partnerships, because it is easier for investors. When startups scale their manufacturing elsewhere, the United States loses more than a possible return on the research investment that made such breakthroughs possible. The preliminary research suggests that to fully realize the economic gains associated with innovation, new products and services developed by American innovators must be scaled-up within the US economy, as well as in overseas markets. The four suggestions that have been made include the following: increase financing options for later-stage development; create institutions and incentives; change the contours of market demand; and encourage firms to raise capital through initial public offerings.

The presidedress soil nitrate test (PSNT) is an in-season soil test that evaluates the N supplying capacity of soil before side dressing to adjust N application rates. Increasing acceptance of this soil test among field corn growers in New Jersey has shown it to be an effective practice. Nitrogen application rates were reduced by an average of 45 kg-1 ha without loss of crop yield. Field calibration research to extend use of the PSNT to sweet corn has the potential to improve N fertilizer recommendations for this crop. A critical concentration of 25 mg kg-1 NO3-N in the surface 30 cm of soil is generally considered adequate for field corn. Certain crop features of sweet corn (earlier harvest, smaller plant size and population) suggested that the critical NO2-N level might be lower than for field corn while market quality suggested that it might be a higher value. Results from 40 sweet corn field calibration sites in New Jersey indicate that the PSNT critical soil NO3-N concentration may be greater for sweet corn than field corn. A preliminary critical level of 30 mg kg-1 NO3-N in the surface 30 cm of soil is suggested for use of the PSNT on sweet corn. Further research is being conducted to improve sidedress N recommendations based on the PSNT.

Intensification of shrimp farming has led to problems of water quality and development of pathogenic bacteria. The excess feed and fecal deposited in the bottom of the pond undergo ammonification and result in excess of ammonia formation in pond water and sediment. The purposes of this research was to investigate the impact nitrifying bacteria application on the controlling of pathogenic Vibrio sp. bacteria and toxic nitrogen gasses. Twelve (12) transparent glass bottles (effective volume of 3 L) were used in this research. Tested probiotic was purchased in free market and producer claims to contain Nitrosomonas sp., Nitrosococcus sp., Nitrobacter sp., Bacillus sp., Aerobacter sp., and Pseudomonas sp. The tested media was sea water containing Vibrio sp., TAN, NO2 and NO3 of 54.07 ± 2.93 mg/L; 6.33 ± 0.17 mg/L; 2.43 ± 0.04 mg/L; and 0.46 ± 0.01 mg/L respectively. The treatment of probiotic was 0 mg/L as a control; 0.1 mg/L; 0.2 mg/L; and 0.4 mg/L with 3 replications. In regard to concentration of Vibrio sp., NH3 and NO2 gasses, treatment doses of 0.1 mg/L (A) resulted a save level within 4 days after treatment, but to more secure in the practical work for shrimp farm, the doses of 0.2 mg/L (B) is suggested.

Purpose – The purpose of this study is to examine the innovations in the international activities of not-for-profit (NFP) universities. While the entry mode literature is well addressed, particularly by international marketing and business scholars, an academically interesting and managerially relevant question relates to the applicability of extant research to the emerging phenomenon of internationalization in the NFP sector. Design/methodology/approach – Using an inductive constructivist qualitative methodology grounded in 12 case studies of internationalization in the NFP education sector, this study applies Dunning’s eclectic framework as its theoretical anchor. Findings – This study identified that entry mode choice in the NFP context may not always be reconciled with extant literature derived mostly from a for-profit context. In particular, the broader definition of offshore equity investment is in sharp contrast to previous entry mode research which is largely, if not exclusively, grounded in a for-profit context. Originality/value – Extant frameworks developed to explain the entry mode phenomena tend to assume a profit maximization philosophy. The propositions advocated in this study are a step further to develop our understanding of internationalization of NFP universities.

This paper describes research to quantify, in monetary terms, the landscape amenity benefits of agriculture in the Protected Landscape Area White Carpathians. Within the case study of the PLA, we measured benefits to three groups: local residents, visitors, and the general public. The benefit measurement technique used in the main part of the study was the Contingent Valuation Method (CVM). This allowed the estimation of both use and non-use (existence and bequest value). The emphasis in this paper is the derivation of information, which is essential for the design, and evaluation of compensation programs targeted to landscape amenity protection. Primarily, the need for this arises because of the existence of genuine concern for the provision of landscape amenity services by agriculture. It is also useful and of interest to evaluate and compare the perceptions of agricultural landscape amenity benefits as held by different affected groups of people.

Background: Air pollution is a global problem that is almost experienced by all countries. Causes of air pollution usually come from motor vehicles and industrial sources. One of places filled with transportations in community is a traditional marketObjective: This study aimed to asses the health risk of inhalation exposure to SO2 and NO2 on traders in the Siteba Market Padang City, Indonesia.Methods: This was a descriptive quantitative research with Environmental Health Risk Analysis method (EHRA). The concentrations of SO2 and NO2 were measured at three different points in a total of 81 respondents who were randomly selected.Results: Findings showed that the average of SO2 concentration was equal to 113 mg/m3, and the average NO2 concentration was 3 mg/m3. SO2 and NO2 exposure assessment on the traders were 0.005204 mg / kg / day and 0.00015604 mg / kg / day respectively. And the results of calculation of exposure risk characterization of SO2 and NO2 were at risk level (RQ) of 1.Conclusion: It can be concluded that ambient air quality was safe although the complaints and discomforts among traders were still found. Therefore, further research to assess the other air quality parameters that affect the respiratory distress perceived by market traders is needed.

Purpose: The study aimed to determine whether family businesses in Poland are as involved in international activity as non-family businesses. Moreover, the intention was to identify differences in the forms of foreign expansion employed by family and non-family firms. Design/methodology/approach: The objectives were pursued based on primary research conducted in 188 family firms and 223 non-family firms operating on the Polish market. Findings: The analysis of the results indicates that family firms conduct business activity outside the domestic market significantly less frequently than non-family firms. The most common form of internationalization chosen by Polish family firms is export and import. Generally, these firms are not interested in joint ventures with foreign partners. Compared to non-family firms, Polish family firms establish divisions abroad significantly less frequently. However, they engage in non-equity cooperation more often than non-family firms. Practical implications: Knowledge about the involvement of family and non-family firms in international activity and their preferred forms of internationalization can be used by business environment institutions. Originality/value: The study results enrich the knowledge on the activity of Polish family firms on foreign markets as compared to similar activity of non-family businesses

Insurance companies are institutions of public trust, and this affects their corporate culture, strategies and management systems. One of the image concerns is reporting on socially responsible actions in non-financial reports. The prime objective of the research presented in this paper is to analyze the dependence between the level of non-financial reporting in the insurance market and the share of foreign capital, measured based on the market size of foreign insurance companies compared to all insurance companies, and the share of foreign insurance companies in non-financial reporting. The study concerned insurance markets in the Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland and Slovakia, and the overall market of the Visegrad Group countries. The theoretical section provides a review of the literature and applicable legislation to indicate the causes of non-financial reporting by insurance companies. Next, the correlation was used to determine the relationship between the variables studied, the regression method was applied to determine the impact of the variables studied, in particular foreign capital, on the level of non-financial reporting. A model was constructed, and the results of its estimation were analyzed. Analysis of the data demonstrated that the greater the share of foreign capital, the higher the level of non-financial reporting. The study results indicate that the share of foreign insurance companies can become a determinant in the development of non-financial reporting.

AbstractBackgroundLow-grade gliomas (LGGs) are classified by the World Health Organization as astrocytoma (DA), oligodendroglioma (OD), and mixed oligoastrocytoma (OA). TP53 mutation and 1p19q codeletion are the most-commonly documented molecular abnormalities. Isocitrate dehydrogenase (IDH) 1/2 mutations are frequent in LGGs; however, IDH-negative gliomas can also occur. Recent research suggests that ATRX plays a significant role in gliomagenesis.MethodsWe investigated p53 and Olig2 protein expression, and MGMT promoter methylation, 1p19q codeletion, IDH, and ATRX status in 63 Colombian patients with LGG. The overall survival (OS) rate was estimated and compared according to genotype.ResultsThe most common histology was DA, followed by OD and OA. IDH1/2 mutations were found in 57.1% and MGMT+ (positive status of MGMT promoter methylation methyl-guanyl-methyl-transferase gene) in 65.1% of patients, while overexpression of p53 and Olig2 was present in 30.2% and 44.4%, respectively, and 1p19q codeletion in 34.9% of the patients. Overexpression of ATRX was analyzed in 25 patients, 16% tested positive and were also mutations in isocitrate dehydrogenase and negative 1p19q-codelition. The median follow-up was 15.8 months (95% CI, 7.6–42.0) and OS was 39.2 months (95% CI, 1.3–114). OS was positively and significantly affected by MGMT+, 1p19q codeletion, surgical intervention extent, and number of lobes involved. Multivariate analysis confirmed that MGMT methylation status and 1p19q codeletion affected OS.ConclusionsThis is the first study evaluating the molecular profile of Hispanic LGG patients. Findings confirmed the prognostic relevance of MGMT methylation and 1p19q codeletion, but do not support IDH1/2 mutation as a relevant marker. The latter may be explained by sample size and selection bias. ATRX alterations were limited to patients with DA and were mutations in isocitrate dehydrogenase and negative 1p19q-codelition.

Non-bank financial institutions play an important role in the non-bank financial service markets expressed in expanding the access to financial services for individuals and legal entities. The non-bank financial service markets demonstrate their performance peculiarities in the pre-crisis and post-crisis periods that bring up to date the need to form a scientific presentation of their development trends. Therefore, it is necessary to provide scientific background and identify the regress and progress processes in the non-bank financial service markets. The research aim is to develop an analytical approach to determining the peculiarities of the development processes in the non-bank financial service markets. The research assesses the key indicators of the non-bank financial service markets in terms of quantity by dividing a set of values into groups by cluster analysis and multidimensional object clustering by a system of indicators, as well as identifying the progress and regress patterns in the non-bank financial service markets. Achieving the research results requires taking into account the above-mentioned objectives fulfilled in seven stages. The research results reflect the influence on the financial service markets exerted by the governmental regulation policy and the consumer protection level in these markets.

Near field communication mobile payment (NMP) is simple to use and beneficial to consumers, yet its adoption among consumers in Malaysia is still at the beginning stage and the adoption rate is relatively lower compared to other countries in the world. The aim of this study is to identify factors that affect the adoption intention of NMP among consumers in Malaysia, by using Faculty of Computer and Mathematical Sciences (FSKM), UiTM Shah Alam as the case study for this research. The quantitative data analysis approach is used in this study. There were 150 questionnaires analyzed using the SPSS. This research identified three factors that affect the adoption intention of NMP which are perceived usefulness, perceived cost and compatibility. By understanding the factors affecting the intention to adopt NMP, financial technology companies can focus to provide the solutions according to market interest, needs and readiness.

The objective of this research is to study the marketing process of ribbon fish (Trichiurus sp.), including the marketing margin, marketing agencies, traders and marketing channels The research was carried out for 3 mo in Nusantara Fishing Port (NFP), Palabuhanratu, Sukabumi, West Java. A case study was used in this research. A purposive sampling method was used to collect data from 55 respondents of fish marketing, consisting of fishermen, agents, traders, and retailers, who were involved in the marketing of ribbon fish in NFP Palabuhanratu. The result of the research showed that ribbon fish production in Palabuhanratu fluctuated from year to year. There are two types of ribbon fish marketing, i.e. type one is from fishermen to retailers, and type two is indirect marketing from fisherman to consumers through intermediate traders (exporters). The greatest marketing margin was obtained from the first type, while the smallest marketing margin was obtained from type two. The form of the market was considered to be oligopsony market. Fisherman’s share is greatest in the collectors and the smallest share is on retailers. Marketing process in traders is efficient due to its lowest margin and highest fisherman’s share.

e18086 Background: The increasing adoption of Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) in molecular profiling of cancer presents a growing need for streamlined interpretation of NGS results in clinical labs. This can be achieved through bioinformatics tools equipped with a highly-curated database on clinically important variants. Methods: We performed an initial assessment of an NGS result interpretation tool called NAVIFY Mutation Profiler (NMP), which enabled us to process a Variant Call Format (VCF) file and generate a report with consensus recommendations of NCCN, ASCO, CAP and ACMG. This annotation tool identifies pathogenic variants and variants of unknown clinical significance (VUS), and groups variants by AMP Tiers. At the time of this assessment, NMP contained curation for ~4,000 variants. In this study, we used NGS results from 38 anonymized clinical cases with known treatment regimens to retrospectively assess NMP as the variant interpretation tool. Our cohort contained lung cancer subjects treated with EGFR tyrosine kinase inhibitor (TKI) (5 cases), as well as subjects relapsed against EGFR TKI (1 case) or ALK TKI crizotinib (22 cases). We also included 10 control cases where standard of care chemo was used because initial diagnostic methods did not reveal any actionable targets. Results: NMP annotated NGS VCF data and generated a report within 10 minutes per case although some cases contained > 100 variants. NMP correctly associated EGFR TKI therapies options with the corresponding 5 cases. As expected, NMP did not recommend targeted therapies for the 10 chemo-treated control cases. For the subject relapsed against EGFR TKI, NMP correctly interpreted the complex EGFR mutation profile containing both activating (L858R) and drug-resistance (T790M) variants. In addition, out of 22 cases relapsed against ALK TKI crizotinib, NMP correctly marked 14 with crizotinib resistance when a known ALK variant conferring crizotinib resistance was detected. There was limited or no published clinical evidence to interpret the remaining 8 cases of ALK TKI resistance. Conclusions: NMP correctly interpreted cases containing EGFR and ALK variants in this study. With a highly-curated knowledge base, this tool simplifies NGS clinical reporting by identifying clinically actionable mutations and associating treatment options qualified by supporting clinical evidence.

Research methods: The research describe sodium benzoate exiztence on sauce and than determine sodium benzoate level on saos. The research object sodium benzoate. Statistical variable in this research is one variable that is the existence and level of sodium benzoate on samples. Method that used for analyzed sodium benzoate in this case is base-acid titration in alkalimetry with two test that is qualitative test and quantitative test. This data is set out in table.
Result: The research result by samples is 100% contain sodium benzoate and preservative with high level or out of maksimum level that has been certained and did not fulfill the terms of regulation BPOM Nomor 36 Tahun 2013 is 41,70%.
Conclusion: there is sodium benzoate preservative on samples of sauce bottle on Beringharjo market in Yogyakarta with level maximum 7.001,61 mg/kg and level minimun 420,175 mg/kg

As an effective expression means of tourists’ opinions, text mining of such data has big potential to inspire innovations for tourism practitioners. In the past decade, a variety of text mining techniques have been proposed and applied to tourism analysis to develop tourism value analysis models, build tourism recommendation systems, create tourist profiles, and make policies for supervising tourism markets. The successes of these techniques have been further boosted by the progress of natural language processing (NLP), machine learning, and deep learning. With the understanding of the complexity due to this diverse set of techniques and tourism text data sources, this work attempts to provide a detailed and up-to-date review of text mining techniques that have been, or have the potential to be, applied to modern tourism big data analysis. We summarize and discuss different text representation strategies, text-based NLP techniques for topic extraction, text classification, sentiment analysis, and text clustering in the context of tourism text mining, and their applications in tourist profiling, destination image analysis, market demand, etc. Our work also provides guidelines for constructing new tourism big data applications and outlines promising research areas in this field for incoming years.

Environmental innovations are one path towards new “Green Economy” using natural resources only within the boundaries of the ecosystem’s ability to renew itself. The paper focuses on product related demand-side eco-innovations. It addresses commercial procurement. According to the hypothesis of our research, a properly displayed demand for eco-innovative solutions could attract vendors to market their respective products, enhance their further diffusion and thus make non-public bulk consumers acting as change agents for eco-innovations. The analysis shows that bulk consumers play a crucial role as lead buyers. Activating them to purchase eco-innovative solutions requires several pulling and pushing measures: regulatory, economic, informative/communicative, reflexive/discursive, co-operative, monitoring and the role of lead market initiatives. By implication, a demand-side related political promotion could complement the various ongoing efforts for activating public institutions and private end consumers to purchase eco-innovations systematically and more frequently. The strategy of focusing seems promising when it comes to bulk consumers as change agents for innovation. Therefore, the authors advocate further research and pilot actions in the field.

PurposeThe main purpose of this article is to determine the significance of selected reasons for the market success of a new food product depending on the perception of the offeror.Design/methodology/approachA cognitive-critical analysis of the literature on marketing, innovation management and image management were used to prepare the theoretical section. The results of the analysis indicate a cognitive and research gap regarding the role of innovative food products in creating their offerors' image. In order to reduce the gap, empirical studies were conducted on a sample of young Polish consumers, in which a questionnaire was used to gather primary data. The data were subjected to statistical analysis using the following methods and statistical tests: exploratory factor analysis, Kruskal–Wallis test, Pearson chi-square independence test and V-Cramer coefficient analysis.FindingsThe results of the analysis conducted indicated, inter alia, that there are no statistically significant dependencies between opinions on the importance of individual components to achieve market success by a new food product (NFP), and on the relationship between the perception of the NFP and the image of the offeror. Opinions on the impact of an offeror's image on the perception of an NFP are a feature that differentiates the factors indicating the success of NFPs in the case of three variables only.Originality/valueThe results obtained from the research have a cognitive and applicability value, characterized by originality. Until now, the role of innovative food products in creating their offerors' image has not been analyzed.

Abstract This article illustrates how the crisis of the news media is impacting political coverage in Iceland. Perceptions of routine political coverage in the Icelandic media have not been studied before, and this article fills this research gap and situates the Icelandic case within the wider news media crisis literature. My exploration is guided by two research questions. The first focuses on how journalists and politicians in Iceland perceive political coverage in the Icelandic media and how the coverage is seen to affect their working practices. The second question concerns how the public in Iceland perceives political news content. Findings show that, according to journalists and politicians, the mix of mainly commercial funding models and the smallness of the media market results in even more superficial and problematic coverage than in larger states. Survey answers illustrate that the public mostly agrees with interviewee perceptions concerning how the Icelandic media covers politics.

Many studies in new product development (NPD) single out the use of information (especially market information) as a key predictor of NPD performance, but knowledge is lacking about what type of information is needed in each phase of the NDP process to enable high NPD performance. Based on a literature review and a pilot case study, this article increases the understanding of managing information in NPD. It is argued that the capability of managing information consists of three components: acquiring, sharing, and using information. By focusing on three different phases of the NPD process, 11 propositions regarding which information, information sources and means of cross-functional integration patterns that are most important to high NPD performance have been derived in each respective phase. In addition, the article also discusses antecedents and consequences of managing information. The article concludes with implications for managers, identifies limitations and proposes an agenda for further research into this area.

Humans and nonhuman primates (NHP) are similar in behavior and in physiology, specifically the structure, function, and complexity of the immune system. Thus, NHP models are desirable for pathophysiology and pharmacology/toxicology studies. Furthermore, NHP-derived induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) may enable transformative developmental, translational, or evolutionary studies in a field of inquiry currently hampered by the limited availability of research specimens. NHP-iPSCs may address specific questions that can be studied back and forth between in vitro cellular assays and in vivo experimentations, an investigational process that in most cases cannot be performed on humans because of safety and ethical issues. The use of NHP model systems and cell specific in vitro models is evolving with iPSC-based three-dimensional (3D) cell culture systems and organoids, which may offer reliable in vitro models and reduce the number of animals used in experimental research. IPSCs have the potential to give rise to defined cell types of any organ of the body. However, standards for deriving defined and validated NHP iPSCs are missing. Standards for deriving high-quality iPSC cell lines promote rigorous and replicable scientific research and likewise, validated cell lines reduce variability and discrepancies in results between laboratories. We have derived and validated NHP iPSC lines by confirming their pluripotency and propensity to differentiate into all three germ layers (ectoderm, mesoderm, and endoderm) according to standards and measurable limits for a set of marker genes. The iPSC lines were characterized for their potential to generate neural stem cells and to differentiate into dopaminergic neurons. These iPSC lines are available to the scientific community. NHP-iPSCs fulfill a unique niche in comparative genomics to understand gene regulatory principles underlying emergence of human traits, in infectious disease pathogenesis, in vaccine development, and in immunological barriers in regenerative medicine.

PurposeThe purpose of this study is to analyze how strategic planning is used as critical success factors (CSF’s) in not-for-profit (NFP) organizations. This was because many nonprofits had to innovate their operations owing to the global fiscal crises, the continuing international economic instability, natural disasters or the increasing man-made worldwide terrorism. Additionally, the objective is to identify what successful nonprofit organizations actually do to remain effective at the national association level of analysis. Design/methodology/approachA constructivist research design ideology is applied (in contrast to the customary positivist philosophy to collect quantitative). The literature is critically reviewed to identify NFP CSF’s and terms such as capacity building. NFP institutions are theoretically sampled using US-based retrospective data to identify practitioner CSF activities. Applying a constructivist research design ideology, the theoretical CSF’s from the literature review are compared to practitioner activities. Representatives of NFP organizations are invited to participate in a strategic planning exercise to identify the most important CSF’s from the literature and practice that would be needed in the future. FindingsSeven of the nine United Nations NFP capacity building CSF’s are similar to NFP nine practitioner best practices. In comparison to the general literature, NFP practitioners applied leadership, strategic planning, innovation, documented procedures/training, human/technology resource management, financial management, accountability practices, ethical standards with professional communications policies, collaborative fundraising and marketing initiatives along with performance success evaluations. Research limitations/implicationsThe sample was drawn theoretically from 44 nonprofit state-centered institutions in the USA. Although statistically the results pertain strictly to US-based nonprofits, the principles should generalize to other countries as revealed by the similarity with United Nations innovation and strategic planning recommendations. Originality/valueThe authors applied a strategic planning exercise with the 44 participants at their recommendations to prioritize the CSF’s. The result was an innovative SWOT-TOWS diagram that summarized how the nine CSF’s were prioritized and grouped into the three categories of market performance, ethical responsibility and human resources.

Abstract Research background: Bitcoin is the most popular financial instrument within the new cryptocurrencies class, which emerged in the wake of the financial crisis of 2007/2008. Purpose: The purpose of this paper is to provide an analysis of Bitcoin from the perspective of the Polish market investor. More specifically, the aim of the empirical research presented in this study has been twofold: (1) comparison of Bitcoin with other currencies using returns and risk captured by the standard deviation of returns and (2) assessment of the sensitivity of the BTC/PLN exchange rate to the NBP’s monetary policy announcements. Results: Bitcoin appears to be weakly related to other currency exchange rates against the Polish zloty and the monetary policy announcements of the National Bank of Poland (NBP) have, effectively, no influence on the determination of the BTC/PLN exchange rate. Novelty: We discuss extensively the Bitcoin as a new asset on the financial market and we present the investigation of the BTC/PLN reactions to the monetary policy announcements in Poland, which is a novel analysis for this instrument using the Polish market data.

Abstract Based on decades of comparative research on the national tabloid industry in the Nordic countries, a forecast is made, based on the product life cycle (PLC) theory, that the Swedish national tabloid industry will decline. As PLC theory is a blunt forecasting instrument, every precaution is taken; still a forecast is made that the No.2 tabloid will lose the present endgame to the market leader and disappear in 5-10 years time. End-game strategies as well as exit barriers are discussed in detail. The conclusions are valid for the national tabloid industries in the other Nordic countries following the same pattern of development. In passing, the question is raised of whether Internet publishing will change the rules of the game.

Abstract Diversity and pluralism are foundational principles that seem to underlie much of the arguments in European communication and media policy. Consequently, the positive value associated with these concepts can be exploited in arguments for various and often-incompatible objectives. This paper discusses the uses and implications of different definitions and empirical objectifications of media diversity in media policy with a particular focus on how certain definitions and political rationalities become institutionalized and normalized in expert and policy discourses. It is argued in the article that the growing body of research on media diversity as a measurable concept implies a shift from the normative and political questions to more narrowly defined technocratic and market-driven definitions of media and culture, a move which itself is not without normative and political implications.

Purpose. Research indicating potentially beneficial bioactivity of flavonoids has produced a market and demand for natural health products and dietary supplements containing flavonoids. Implementation of the Canadian natural health product (NHP) regulations in January of 2004 increased regulation and oversight of NHP manufacture and marketing leading many consumers and clinicians to assume a similar pathway of development and approval to over-the-counter or prescription drugs. Methods. Three stereospecific liquid chromatograph/mass spectrometry (LC/MS) methods were used to assess the flavonoids, liquiritigenin, pinocembrin, and pinostrobin, in selected Canadian licensed NHP’s and US marketed dietary supplements. Results. The present study quantifies bioactive flavonoids in these products and notes variability in flavonoid content. Conclusions. Efficacy and safety of NHP’s and dietary supplements should not be assumed due to differences in criteria for NHP licensure by Health Canada as well as variation of flavonoid content between manufacturers and products with similar indications for use.

Economic development in a national and international context must be based on a sustainability strategy established on the systemic interaction between the economic, sociocultural, and ecological environments. Today, the world is confronted by many challenges related to climate change and natural-resource flows, including waste streams resulting from economic activity. The need for national and European environmental standards and the work of an environment monitoring authority to reduce air pollution are highlighted by economic and industrial activities. Thus, our research focused on determining if emissions of sulfur dioxide (SO2), nitrogen (NO2), and particulate matter 10 (PM10) are influenced by planned and unplanned inspections made by competent authorities from Romania. We built a regression model that estimates the influence of economic measures imposed by the authorities on reducing industrial air pollution. Preliminary results showed that the number of inspections negatively influences air pollution, indicating that national and local authorities in Romania are striving to maintain air quality and are conducting more inspections when air pollution is high.

In current literature, studies on indoor air quality mostly concern environments such as hospitals, schools and homes, and less so on spaces producing food, such as bakeries. However, small- and medium-sized bakeries are typical and very common food production spaces, mostly in Southern Italy. Considering this, the present study investigated size trends of the aerosol particles during bakery working activities and the indoor particulate matter PM2.5 chemical speciation at the same time, in order to characterize the aerosol particulate matter emissions. In particular, indoor air monitoring was performed using a silent sequential sampler and an optical particle counter monitor during 7–19 April 2013. For each daily sampling, four PM2.5 samples were collected. In each sample, OC (organic carbon), EC (elemental carbon), LG (levoglucosan) Cl− (chloride), NO2− (nitrite), NO3− (nitrate), SO42− (sulfate), C2O42− (oxalate), Na+ (sodium), NH4+ (ammonium), K+ (potassium), Mg2+ (magnesium) and Ca2+ (calcium) concentrations were determined. The main sources of particles were wood burning, the cleaning of ovens (ash removal) and the baking of bread. While levoglucosan was associated with the source wood burning, potassium in this case can be considered as a marker of the contribution of the bakery activities. This work represents the second part of indoor research activities performed in the bakery. The first part was published in Ielpo et al. (2018).

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui kondisi lingkungan perairan Waduk Cirata dalam mendukung kegiatan perikanan. Penelitian dilakukan dengan metode survei dan pengambilan contoh air menggunakan kemmerer bottle sampler” Pengambilan contoh air dilakukan di 6 stasiun pengamatan dengan kedalaman 0,5; 2; 4,5; dan 8 m serta dasar perairan. Dari hasil pengamatan yang di peroleh selama penelitian menunjukkan bahwa kualitas air diWaduk Cirata cukup mendukung untuk kegiatan perikanan tangkap, seperti suhu berkisar antara 27,1 - 31,5°C, pH 6,5 - 8,5, O2 terlarut 0,44 - 4,72 mg per L, CO2 0 - 11,48 mg per L, N-NO2 0 - 0,259 mg per L, N-NO3 0,054 - 9,841 mg per L, NH4 0,0171 - 3,351 mg per L, NH3 0 - 3,17 mg per L, PO4 0,024 - 7,154 mg per L, dan total bahan organik 0 - 27,2 mg per L. Berdasarkan pada hasil dari analisis konsentrasi oksigen terlarut telah mengalami stratifikasi, dan klasifikasi tingkat kesuburan perairan berdasarkan pada konsentrasi fosfat, perairan ini sudah mencapai tingkat eutrofik dan hipereutrofik. Hal tersebut, berarti usaha pengembangan budi daya ikan dalam karamba jaring apung telah melebihi daya dukung perairan dan cenderung telah mencemari perairan. Observation of water quality was done in Cirata Reservoir (area: 6,200 ha, dept mean (z):34.9 m, and altitude 225 m above sea level) from March to December 2006. This research aimed to know the condition of water environment of Cirata Reservoir to support fisheries activities. The research was done using method of survey. Water samples was collected using kemmerer bottle sampler in 6 station sites at a depth of 0.5; 2; 4.5; 8 m and bottom water, respectively. The result indicated that the water quality of Cirata Reservoir was good enough for supporting t fisheries activities, namely water temperature 27.1 - 31.5°C, pH 6.5 to 8.5, DO 0.44- 4.72 mg per L, free CO2 0 - 11.48 mg per L, N-NO2 0 - 0.259 mg per L, N-NO3 0.054 - 9.841 mg per L, NH4: 0.0171 - 3.351 mg per L, NH3 0 - 3.17 mg per L, PO4 0.024 - 7.154 mg per L, organics materials 0 - 27.2 mg per L. Dissolved oxygen concentration stratification was observed, and classification mount fertility of territorial water of its phosphate concentration, this territorial water have reached storey; level of eutrofik and hipereutrofik. The mentioned mean the effort development of fish conducting in net keramba float have exceeded energy support territorial water and tend to have contaminated territorial water.

The article describes Jehovah’s Witnesses women as one of less remembered groups among victims of the Nazi regime. What is pointed out, first of all, is the state of research ontheir history, especially pertaining to their camp experience, Western literature on the subject and a negligible number of Polish research works devoted to the topic in question, and also some methodological dilemmas related to researching it. The author presents the circumstances of German Jehovah’s Witnesses after Hitler’s seizure of power, their subsequent persecutions, and also – reconstructed on the basis of documents, witnesses reports, and the members of persecuted group themselves – the fate of female followers of this religion (“the purple triangles”) in concentration camps. The author’s main points of focus are, described by witnesses/beholders/onlookers of the events, acts and attitudes of “the purple triangles” marked by strong spirituality, at the same time unbreakable/intransigent in their defiance of/against violence and the authorities’ orders. (Everybody knew that Jehovah’s Witnesses could have basically “sign off” from the camp by putting their signature at the bottom of a declaration that they would renounce their faith and cease to practise their religion.) Such a defiance may be better understood, the author claims, by interpreting it in the light of the anthropological concept of emotional communities.

Purpose A composite sentiment index (CSI) from quantitative proxy sentiment indicators is likely to be a lag sentiment measure as it reflects only the information absorbed in the market. Information theories and behavioral finance research suggest that market prices may not adjust to all the available information at a point in time. This study hypothesizes that the sentiment from the unincorporated information may provide possible market leads. Thus, this paper aims to discuss a method to identify the un-incorporated qualitative Sentiment from information unadjusted in the market price to test whether sentiment polarity from the information can impact stock returns. Factoring market sentiment extracted from unincorporated information (residual sentiment or sentiment backlog) in CSI is an essential step for developing an integrated sentiment index to explain deviation in asset prices from their intrinsic value. Identifying the unincorporated Sentiment also helps in text analytics to distinguish between current and future market sentiment. Design/methodology/approach Initially, this study collects the news from various textual sources and runs the NVivo tool to compute the corpus data’s sentiment polarity. Subsequently, using the predictability horizon technique, this paper mines the unincorporated component of the news’s sentiment polarity. This study regresses three months’ sentiment polarity (the current period and its lags for two months) on the NIFTY50 index of the National Stock Exchange of India. If the three-month lags are significant, it indicates that news sentiment from the three months is unabsorbed and is likely to impact the future NIFTY50 index. The sentiment is also conditionally tested for firm size, volatility and specific industry sector-dependence. This paper discusses the implications of the results. Findings Based on information theories and empirical findings, the paper demonstrates that it is possible to identify unincorporated information and extract the sentiment polarity to predict future market direction. The sentiment polarity variables are significant for the current period and two-month lags. The magnitude of the sentiment polarity coefficient has decreased from the current period to lag one and lag two. This study finds that the unabsorbed component or backlog of news consisted of mainly negative market news or unconfirmed news of the previous period, as illustrated in Tables 1 and 2 and Figure 2. The findings on unadjusted news effects vary with firm size, volatility and sectoral indices as depicted in Figures 3, 4, 5 and 6. Originality/value The related literature on sentiment index describes top-down/ bottom-up models using quantitative proxy sentiment indicators and natural language processing (NLP)/machine learning approaches to compute the sentiment from qualitative information to explain variance in market returns. NLP approaches use current period sentiment to understand market trends ignoring the unadjusted sentiment carried from the previous period. The underlying assumption here is that the market adjusts to all available information instantly, which is proved false in various empirical studies backed by information theories. The paper discusses a novel approach to identify and extract sentiment from unincorporated information, which is a critical sentiment measure for developing a holistic sentiment index, both in text analytics and in top-down quantitative models. Practitioners may use the methodology in the algorithmic trading models and conduct stock market research.

Abstract The main purpose of the paper is to present some of the mechanisms connected with the functioning of the Polish housing market, with due regard to demand and supply volatility as well as the changing financial conditions at the time of the global financial crisis of the first decade of the present century. Special attention is given to the financial and legal regulations concerning the housing market, which were introduced in response to the economic downturn. On the basis of research conducted by the authors, as well as available reports and statistics for 2007-2013, the article will explore market phenomena (the size and pattern of demand, supply and prices on the housing market, and the changes they undergo) on the one hand, and the legal and financial regulatory changes directly affecting them, on the other. It will also study the effects of the implementation of the recommendations made by the Polish Financial Supervision Authority (KNF) by banks in the wake of the global financial crisis. These cause banks to tighten their credit policies and, accordingly, have an impact on their loan portfolios. Information from secondary sources has also been used, notably from the Central Statistical Office (GUS), the KNF, the National Bank of Poland (NBP), as well as the Polish Bank Association (ZBP) and the Credit Information Bureau (BIK). Changes that occurred during the period of economic crisis in the availability of housing have also been examined.

Abstract The point of departure for this article is ‘the visual turn’, the proclaimed need for specific competencies, and furthermore the lack of clarity in the concepts and the lack of research that accompany the use of images. Terms like ‘visual literacy’ and “visual competence’ are compared with a concept of visual ‘Bildung’. ‘Bildung’ is presented as a concept that clearly goes beyond qualifications and a dominant market-oriented comprehension of competence. In its origin, ‘Bildung’ has obvious references to ‘image’, and it may also offer interesting new perspectives in the battle between words and images that has taken place throughout history and is a background to today’s situation. ‘Bildung’ opens up an interesting path between iconoclasm and idolatry. The article proclaims an urgent need for a visual and reflective ‘Bildung’, because images are closely related to the world in which we live today.

Abstract This article presents an empirically based examination of how the Norwegian television industry incorporates audience activity and audience-generated material, and of how audiences respond to the opportunities presented. It explores three main research questions: First, how extensive is audience activity on television? Second, to what degree do different television activities correspond to familiar patterns of social stratification? And third, is there any evidence for the view that digital feedback channels, such as SMS and the Web, provide access to television for new groups of people? To investigate these questions, a case study of the Norwegian media market has been carried out, based on two data sets. The extent of audience activity is examined through a representative audience survey conducted during a period of two weeks in 2004. The second data set is a one-week survey of Norwegian television output on the six Norwegian-language channels in 2005.

Karang Mumus River through the urban area with complicated activities. Domestic waste content in Karang Mumus River come from the communities activities. It content nutrition as Phosphate and Nitrate reason booming algae in the tributary. It happens to impact the water pollution since less Dissolved Oxygen (DO). Purpose this research is analysis distribution of Phosphate and Nitrate in Karang Mumus River. The method used surveys as observation, water sampling, and laboratory analysis. Measurement spot is 17 from upstream to downstream. The result Nitrate is excellent but Phospat high on some spot measurement. Especially it happens in part of urban, market and several communities. The highest Nitrate is 2.13 mg/L standard 10 mg/L and highest Phosphate is 0.86 mg/L standard 0.2 mg/L.

The subject of the study is the role and place of cooperative publishing houses in the formation of the domestic consumer market of book products and scientific assessment of organizational, publishing and trade activities of publishing cooperatives in the context of the new economic policy (NEP). The purpose of the scientific article is to study the role and place of cooperative publishing houses in the formation of the domestic consumer market of book products and, through the prism of studying the problems of economic history, to give a scientific assessment of organizational, publishing and trade activities of the NEP. Methods of research. All components of the study are based on fundamental principles – scientific, historicism, objectivity, system, development, priority of concrete verity, pluralism; and also the methods of knowledge of social and economic processes of social development – analysis, synthesis, problem-chronological, comparative analytical, archaeological, retrospective, statistical, a systematic and integrated approach. Research methodology. In the process of the study, the fundamental principles were based on Economic History and History of Economic Thought, the Ukrainian and foreign scientists’ works and experts in this area. Results of work. In the context of this issue, we explored the role and place of cooperative publishing houses in the formation of the domestic consumer market of book products and, through the prism of studying the problems of economic history, gave a scientific assessment of organizational, publishing and trade activities of the NEP. The field of application of results. The results of this research can be applied to study the issues of Economic History and History of Economic Thought, History of the Publishing Industry. Conclusions. Thus, cooperative publishing houses were business-type societies, organizationally and functionally belonged to cooperative societies, and on the other hand - were public associations with editorial, production, economic and socio-cultural functions. Examining the activities of cooperative publishing houses, it can be stated that they occupied an important place in the distribution and printing of various literature: socio-economic, socio-political, agricultural, artistic, children's books, textbooks, natural, military. Consumers of book products of cooperative publishing houses were the most various social and professional groups of the population: workers, peasants, employees, women, youth, military, children. By distributing literature in a country where almost two-thirds of the population was illiterate, publishing houses contributed to the full operation of educational institutions, raising the intellectual and spiritual level of society, creating conditions for the development of science, art, culture and education. There was a completely organic connection between publishers' cooperatives, cultural, educational, and scientific institutions, and a kind of intellectual and spiritual dependence developed due to the high demand for books, as publishers published literature from all fields of knowledge. The activities of cooperative publishing houses of the NEP period, especially the formation of the organizational structure and the implementation of advertising and propaganda work should be taken into account when developing the legal framework of the national program of book publishing in Ukraine.

Poultry sellers is one of the jobs potentially impaired pulmonary function. Impaired pulmonary function status of workers caused by external factors and internal factors. The aim of this research was to identify factors which cause impaired pulmonary function the poultry sellers in bird market in Kupang Surabaya. This research used cross sectional design. Data obtained by the measurements, examination and questionnaire. The sample of this research is 20 respondents which drawn from 10% of the total population. Data were analyzed by cross tabulation. The measurements result of dust levels, SO2, NO2, NH3 and H2S respectively 0.3848 mg/m3, 0.0047 mg/m3, 0.0207 ppm, 0.0638 ppm, 0.0002 ppm were below the TLV. Pulmonary function test results of 20 respondents, there were 13 (65%) of respondents have normal status of pulmonary function and 7 (35%) of respondents impaired pulmonary function with details of 4 (20%) of respondents mild obstruction, 1 (5%) of respondents restriction mild and 2 (10%) of respondents mixture. The conclusion of this study are the pulmonary status of respondents in Surabaya Kupang bird market not affected by external factors such as exposure to gas and dust, but affected by internal factors such as age, years of service, and years of smoking history. There is no association between the nutritional status of respondents with pulmonary function status. Respondents should reduce cigarette consumption and conduct regular health checks.Keywords: pulmonary function status, sellers poultry, bird market

Abstract This article summarises findings from a research project on the digitisation of Norwegian newsrooms, analysing trends in the industry and changes in user-habits. Findings suggest that most journalists are positive about the digitisation of the newsroom but fear that cutbacks in staff will prevent them from exploiting the potential of the new technology. They also fear that too much focus on technical skills will leave less space for critical journalism. Findings also suggest a correlation between resources used to develop the online edition and the perceived ethical standards of the content. More online journalism leads to a higher degree of scepticism among the readers. There are two different justifications for using resources on the online edition. Some newspaper executives hope to use the online edition to recruit new readers to the paper edition while another group hopes to develop the breadth of market service through a portfolio of publishing platforms.

AbstractMost research on public relations (PR) roles takes the starting point of PR as an indispensable boundary-spanning function. Context may explain how PR is performed and which skills are important, but not the degree to which PR is necessary. In this article, we tackle the latter question by identifying and discussing the role of the low-flying communicator in the Danish region of North Jutland. The study is based on individual and focus group interviews with communication practitioners and students. The results show that many regional companies have established a communicative comfort zone “under the radar” of public attention. This leads to recruitment problems. Companies are less visible in the labour market and depend on graduates who stay in the region for personal reasons. A certain unwillingness to cross boundaries of social and public spaces feeds into sense-making but also contestable role understandings of PR practice and education in regional contexts.

This article discusses how Harbin Boiler Co. Ltd (HBC) has incorporated the ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code to ensure that the research, manufacturing, and servicing behind its products are in line with the international standard. HBC got to know ASME Codes in the early 1980s. In 1987, HBC became the first manufacturer of utility boilers in China to obtain ASME Authorization Certificates and Code stamps S (power boilers), U (pressure vessels), and Ш (alternative rules for pressure vessels). HBC obtained the National Board Authorization Certificate and Code stamp R (repair and alteration of boilers) in 1996. In 2004, HBC completed manufacturing the first product project with the U stamp – 24 oil tanks and gas tanks for the Three Gorges Zuoan Power Plant. During the course of obtaining ASME certificates and Code stamps, HBC also enhanced its design capability and manufacturing level, promoted its technology and management levels, further improved its quality and management system, and greatly strengthened its comprehensive competitiveness in the market.
