Resumen
Purpose: This study intends to examine the effects of a stepwise communication education program among nursing college students, focusing on scenarios and nursing case-based role playing. Methods: The study design was a one-group repeated measure ANOVA. Participants were 27 nursing students in practice. Students participated in 5-week stepwise communication education program using SBAR; including 1 week of lecture education, 4 weeks of scenarios and nursing case-based role playing. The data were collected at each level of the education process: pre-education, after 1 week of lectures, and after completion of scenarios and nursing case-based role playing. Repeated measures ANOVA was used to determine changes in SBAR technique knowledge and communication self-efficacy. Results: The stepwise communication education program using SBAR was effective in increasing SBAR technique knowledge, and communication self-efficacy. The lecture-based education was effective only in the area of SBAR technique knowledge and its subscale, attitudes towards SBAR. However, scenarios and nursing case-based role playing was broadly effective across communication self-efficacy, SBAR technique knowledge, and its subscale, knowledge of the SBAR. Conclusion: Based on this study, we propose that it is necessary to confirm the effect of long-term SBAR communication education using scenarios and nursing case-based role playing in nursing students' practice.

Resumen
Effective communication and interaction enable nurses to develop caring, empathetic, and respectful relationships with patients and families. However, most nurses feel a lack of preparation in the “soft” skills of communication, professionalism, and leadership. Nurse managers are seeking graduates with strong emotional quotient characteristics such as self-awareness, motivation, self-regulation, empathy, and social skills. Assisting nursing students to develop these intangible, high-level skills presents an ongoing challenge to nurse educators. This creative teaching learning strategy examines the use of psychosocial role-playing skits to enhance nursing student development of the soft skills of nursing. In this strategy, senior level nursing students work in small groups to develop and present realistic 3- to 5-minute skits based on common nurse–patient, nurse–family, or nurse–health care team interactions that incorporate the concepts of therapeutic communication, interpersonal interaction, empathy, active listening, teamwork, delegation, and/or professionalism, followed by a debriefing session. Student feedback suggests that confidence and competence related to the skills of therapeutic communication, interpersonal interaction, empathy, active listening, teamwork, delegation, and professionalism may improve by incorporating soft skill psychosocial role-playing into a nursing education course of study.

Resumen
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of a role-playing training program conducted among operating room nursing students on empathetic communication with patients through measurements of empathy scores. Methods: This study was carried out among 77 operating room nursing students from the first to the fourth years studying at the School of Nursing and Midwifery of Isfahan University of Medical Sciences in the academic year 2017–2018. The intervention administered to the experimental group included a 12-hour training program on expressing empathy to patients that incorporated roleplaying. The Jefferson Scale of Empathy-Health Profession Student version was completed by the participants before, immediately after, and 1 month after the intervention. A comparative analysis of these 3 time points was conducted. Results: No significant difference was found in the total pre-intervention mean empathy scores before the intervention between the control group and the experimental group (P= 0.50). However, the total mean empathy scores in the experimental group immediately after and 1 month after the intervention were higher than those in the control group (P< 0.001).Conclusion: Empathy training through a role-playing technique was effective at improving the empathy scores of operating room nursing students, and this finding also underscores the fact that empathy can be promoted by education. Changing the educational curriculum of operating room nursing students is suggested in order to familiarize them with the concept of empathy in the operating room.

Resumen
According to (Coetzee and Pauw 2013), the retention of capable staff of nursing is crucial for leaders of nursing because of identifying the consequences of shortage in nursing staff. However, the skills and ability of leaders affect reactions to the situations (Coetzee and Pauw 2013). The deficiency of nursing staff relies on many components of the delivery of healthcare. There is a negative influence on the nursing staff's high turnover on patients, finance, and outcomes of hospitals (Mxenge, Dywill, et al., 2014; Langove and Isha, 2017). Recruiting and training of nursing have a monetary impact which is evaded by a good number of healthcare corporations. The standard cost of substituting a nurse is estimated in the USA from 42,000 USD to 64,000 USD (Galati and Moessner 2013). Zhang, Jiang et al. (2017) stated that the organization of healthcare is always changing and the global turnover of nurses is high. According to the Economic Survey of Pakistan (2012), there is an unavailability of 60,000 staff of nursing in Pakistan (Rehman, Jingdong, et al. 2019). Also, Pakistan is one of the 57 countries that have a severe deficiency of nursing staff under the standard of WHO to provide needed healthcare (McGuire 2016). Therefore, organizations of healthcare consistently struggle to retain nursing staff to deal with the issues of nursing scarcity (Ponte and Sturgeon 2014). This research study would provide a more effective understanding of the backgrounds of turnover of employees if job complexity, the volume of job information that a person holds at the selection time, and the scenario of the labor market were carefully considered. For this reason, these issues are taken as research limitations and more study need to be done to address these problems (Lu Lu, Lu, Gursoy, & Neale, 2016; Shaozhuang Ma, Silva, Callan, & Trigo, 2016; Mamoona Rasheed, Iqbal, & Mustafa, 2018) Various earlier researches on productive workplace atmosphere which has focused on several positive results such as performance, employees' well-being, and behavior of organizational citizenship (Lonsdale, 2016; Zhang, Gong, et al., 2017; Evans and Dobrosielska 2019). Resumen
This is an experience report on the creation of a Role Playing Game used as a pedagogical strategy for promoting the development of autonomy and critical-reflexive thinking among undergraduate students of Nursing during their training. The game's creation took place in the School of Nursing of the Federal University of Minas Gerais, between November 2011 - March 2012, involving four stages: definition of the game design; creation of the game's prototype; and evaluation of the game's dynamic by players of Role Playing Games; and preparation of the 'masters'. The game was created with the aim of providing the students of the Nursing Course with metaphorical experience of problem-situations corresponding to the main scenarios of professional activity. It is believed that the game prepared constitutes a pedagogical strategy in which the students engage and become involved in their process of thinking, of elaborating new meanings, of knowing and of acting.

Caring and empathy may be taught to nursing students through a simulation experience of patient role playing. Students are asked to put themselves in a patient’s shoes to experience how that patient may feel when given a new diagnosis that may change their lifestyle or quality of life. After a simulation experience of wearing an ostomy bag or adult diaper, the students were able to better understand the importance of caring and empathy in nursing.

Resumen
Over the past decade, the rapid developments and growth of information and communication technology (ICT) have had a profound influence on nursing education. E-learning has grown tremendously has been integrated into education and training. The aim of this review is to examine the effect of e-learning program in nursing education. Akdeniz University electronic databases center including MEDLINE, CINAHL, Sciencedirect, Cochrane library were searched published studies in English with “e-learning, nursing education, nursing students” key words and 554 articles were reached by the search results. By the analysis, published 2011-2016, the original six manuscripts have been sampled. A cross-over design study examined the effect of lecture and e-learning methods were compared, no significant difference was found between two methods. In another study, the effect of using e-learning versus lecture of nursing students was examined. Students were indicated to be pleased with the e-learning program. Another study evaluated the effectiveness of an e-learning intervention on pain management for nursing students, it was found to be useful. In another study, experiences of e-learning in a midwifery training package and student's views were evaluated, the students generally welcomed to e-learning however they suggested face-to-face learning. Another study tested the effectiveness of an e-learning program to increase pediatric medication management among students who take pediatric nursing courses, e-learning program is an effective learning method than lecture program. In another study, the effects of e-learning, lectures and role playing on learning, retention and satisfaction of nursing students were evaluated, it was found lectures to be a significantly more effective teaching method than role playing and e-learning. Results of this review showed that students’ satisfaction with e-learning was lower than traditional lecture instruction. However different and well planned e-learning programmes can support the development of nursing students' skills, knowledge and attitudes. Keywords: E-learning; nursing students; nursing education.

Resumen
Objective: The purpose of this study was to understand the experiences of clinical instructors participating in a simulated experience teaching ethics. Background: Teaching ethics is an essential role of the clinical instructor. Limited information exists to guide instructors in the teaching of ethics in clinical settings. Clinical nursing instructors are often hired based on their experience as clinicians and are underprepared to teach ethics to nursing students during clinical instruction. Methods: A qualitative descriptive interpretive approach was used to understand the experiences of clinical faculty who participated in simulation based learning activities that explored ways to include ethics in clinical teaching. A video, case studies, and role-playing provided an opportunity to practice responding to teaching challenges and explored strategies for guiding ethical learning in clinical teaching. Results: Participants realized that ethics could be integrated into clinical teaching and seeking out ethical discussions with students is as important as teaching other nursing skills. Conclusions: Using simulation based education is a means to prepare faculty to include ethics in clinical instruction.

Abstract Studying nursing care must be done thoroughly, that is; bio, psycho, socio, spiritual and culture so that optimal results are obtained. Many models and methods are used for the learning process. The role play method in learning laboratory nursing Diploma III mental nursing care is carried out to apply mental nursing theory that requires therapeutic communication skills as a practical nurse. Students when practicing role playing in mental health laboratory have a variety of meaningful experiences and problems that are not obtained when practicing laboratory in other subjects. The purpose of this research is to find the meaning of their experience when they finish participating in the activity. Qualitative research with a descriptive phenomenological approach was carried out in-depth interviews (in-depth interviews) with semi structured questions to six students by purposive sampling after role play learning in June 2019 at the campus laboratory. Interpretative Phenomenology Analysis (IPA) was used to analyze data and found 7 themes, namely; feel the need for additional therapeutic communication practices, find it difficult to study mental nursing, are unsure of ability, feel like dealing directly with clients, feel afraid when dealing directly with mental clients, cannot concentrate on the role play process and feel the need to frequently do role play. From all the themes produced it can be concluded that there are students who find it difficult to study mental nursing because of wrong perceptions about mental nursing so they feel the need to improve theoretical understanding of the material and often do role playing exercises. Resumen
The world is awakening to the nursing of devastating COVID-19 pandemic effects that resulted in the closure of school among others. Children’s welfare, especially playing was obstructed due to COVID-19 pandemic protective and preventive measures set by the World Health Organization (WHO) and other health agencies. Child developers assert that if a child is inhibited to play, despite valid reasons, it opens up to a paradox of problems in society. Educationists together with therapists have applauded the role play with any art forms goings beyond recreation to an expression of their desires, traumas, and elaboration of their conflicts and emotional healing. This paper has established the psychoanalysis and therapeutic process of a child affected by the COVID-19 pandemic while playing with paintings and clay. The researcher explored desktop descriptive qualitative research design. The psychoanalysis instrumentation was employed to evaluate the literature reviews, theoretical framework on its discussion. The paper has accepted the ravages caused by the COVID-19 pandemic and proposes to education stakeholders to consider playing with paintings and clay to playing groups or pre-schoolers as mitigation measures for a child affected by COVID-19. It has recommended an actual implementation of the study in the post-COVID-19 period once schools open to ascertain its validity.

Resumen
Emotion recognition is a critical life skill children need for mental health promotion to meet the complexities and challenges of growing up in the world today. Five nursing students and their instructor designed Emotion Locomotion, a program for children ages 6–8 during a public health nursing practicum for an inner-city parochial school. Emotion Locomotion used an analogy that the “engine” of a train represents the “individual” and the train “cars” represent various emotions, such as happiness, sadness, calmness, and anger. Analysis of pre- and posttest scores showed an increase in appropriate student responses that involved identifying emotions from photographs and in recognition of vocabulary words representing emotions. Students' role playing during puppet shows demonstrated increased appropriate expression of emotions and healthy ways to deal with feelings during scenarios. Programs such as Emotion Locomotion present opportunities to expand the outreach of school nurses and colleges of nursing through community partnerships to provide critical life skills for student populations.

Resumen
AbstractObjectiveThe purpose of this study was to demonstrate effectiveness of an educational training workshop using role-playing to teach medical students in Botswana to deliver bad news.MethodA 3-hour small group workshop for University of Botswana medical students rotating at the Princess Marina Hospital in Gaborone was developed. The curriculum included an overview of communication basics and introduction of the validated (SPIKES) protocol for breaking bad news. Education strategies included didactic lecture, handouts, role-playing cases, and open forum discussion. Pre- and posttraining surveys assessed prior exposure and approach to breaking bad news using multiple-choice questions and perception of skill about breaking bad news using a 5-point Likert scale. An objective structured clinical examination (OSCE) with a standardized breaking bad news skills assessment was conducted; scores compared two medical student classes before and after the workshop was implemented.ResultForty-two medical students attended the workshop and 83% (35/42) completed the survey. Medical students reported exposure to delivering bad news on average 6.9 (SD = 13.7) times monthly, with 71% (25/35) having delivered bad news themselves without supervision. Self-perceived skill and confidence increased from 23% (8/35) to 86% (30/35) of those who reported feeling “good” or “very good” with their ability to break bad news after the workshop. Feedback after the workshop demonstrated that 100% found the SPIKES approach helpful and planned to use it in clinical practice, found role-playing helpful, and requested more sessions. Competency for delivering bad news increased from a mean score of 14/25 (56%, SD = 3.3) at baseline to 18/25 (72%, SD = 3.6) after the workshop (p = 0.0002).Significance of resultsThis workshop was effective in increasing medical student skill and confidence in delivering bad news. Standardized role-playing communication workshops integrated into medical school curricula could be a low-cost, effective, and easily implementable strategy to improve communication skills of doctors.

Resumen
Despite the current transformation of the U.S. population to one of increased diversity, the majority of nurses employed are from White backgrounds. In addition, few secondary school students from ethnically diverse backgrounds or from rural regions in the nation are encouraged to pursue a collegiate education or to consider nursing as a career. This article describes an innovative 3-year program in which one rural university in the southeast used a virtual environment, Second Life, to expose secondary students to nursing through role-playing as avatars interacting with patient case scenarios. Secondary school science and health occupations teachers developed patient and environmental scenarios under the direction of the nursing program director and the information technology director from the university. Throughout the 3 years, 300 rural and multicultural students were exposed to virtual world health care learning through quizzes with five patient case and environmental scenarios. Student and teacher evaluations were positive about their interest in learning obtained through the patient case examinations. Technical difficulties during Year 1 were eliminated by Year 3. This program demonstrates that use of virtual technologies such as Second Life may increase the interest of secondary rural and multicultural students in careers in nursing and in pursuing a collegiate education.

Resumen
AbstractThe National Academy of Medicine (NAM) in the recently issued report Improving Diagnosis in Health Care outlined eight major recommendations to improve the quality and safety of diagnosis. The #1 recommendation was to improve teamwork in the diagnostic process. This is a major departure from the classical approach, where the physician is solely responsible for diagnosis. In the new, patient-centric vision, the core team encompasses the patient, the physician and the associated nursing staff, with each playing an active role in the process. The expanded diagnostic team includes pathologists, radiologists, allied health professionals, medical librarians, and others. We review the roles that each of these team members will need to assume, and suggest “first steps” that each new team member can take to achieve this new dynamic.

Resumen
Rehabilitation and palliative care are increasingly playing a major role in medicine, surgery, nursing, physiotherapy and related professions. We believe that the same value should still characterize observation and palpation. Accordingly, the gains in the Medical Humanities from the analysis of themes related to the touching/touched experience are documented here and the features of two outstanding works (Borges’s Tlön, Uqbar, Orbis Tertius and Derrida’s Le Toucher) are called into question. We will try to explore the meaning of the senses as well as the sensibilia as natural kinds of clinical phenomenology, thereupon the intelligibility and the supremacy of corporeality, contact, touching and haptic perception are stressed.

Resumen
Introduction.ESBL-producing Enterobacteriaceae can cause severe infections, but they are also isolated from the stool of asymptomatic subjects. Faecal carriage of such organism is poorly understood.Methods.First phase of the study was cross-sectional with prevalence and epidemiology of ESBL faecal carriage in two nursing homes in Beirut: 57 residents in the first (NH1) and 151 residents in the second (NH2). In second phase, faecal swabs from cohort of NH1 residents were examined for carriage at six-week intervals over three-month period. Residents’ charts were reviewed to assess carriage risk factors.Results.Over 3 consecutive samplings at NH1, 81% of residents were at least one-time carriers with 50% at the first round, 60.4% at the second, and 74.5% at the last one. At NH2, 68.2% of residents were carriers. Constipation (in NH1) and antibiotic intake (in NH2) were significantly associated with higher ESBL faecal carriage while the length of stay at the nursing home (in NH2) was associated with less carriage.Conclusion.Faecal carriage of ESBL-producing Enterobacteriaceae is high among nursing home patients in Beirut. The rate of carriage changes rapidly and significantly over time either with multiple factors playing a possible role like outbreak spreading, antibiotic, and health care system exposure.

Resumen
This study constructed and tested models using the mediators of resilience and self-efficacy to help explain the relationship between social support and positive health practices (PHPs) in Black late adolescents. A cross-sectional, correlational design was used with a convenience sample of 179 Black college students, aged 18 to 23 years. Participants responded to four instruments; the five bivariate hypotheses were supported. Social support correlated positively with PHPs ( r = .45, p < .001), resilience ( r = .28, p < .001), and self-efficacy ( r = .40, p < .001). Resilience ( r = .31, p < .001) and self-efficacy ( r = .38, p < .001) correlated positively with PHPs. Regression analyses indicated that resilience and self-efficacy were partial, not complete mediators of the relationship between social support and PHPs. This research has relevance for practice involving Black late adolescents, with social support playing a role in promoting PHPs.

Resumen
Aging and aged societies have arrived in many countries where significant development of medicine and the economy has been achieved. Japan is a highly aged society with a shortage of carers both at home and in long-term care settings. In fact, more persons of advanced age who do not need intensive care in hospitals strongly desire health care to be delivered in their own home with their family. Environmental nursing practice, which means that nurses improve the environment of patients or the elderly properly in accordance with healthcare considerations, is currently playing a more important role, not only to prevent the elderly from contracting various diseases, but also to provide a facility for supporting an aged person to live a fulfilling life, preferably one that includes independence. This approach will lead to a reduction in medical expenditure by increasing the number of aged people with healthy longevity without the need for hospitalization or intensive care. This short communication focuses on healthy lighting for the elderly based on our research and experience regarding the beneficial effects of artificial sunlight on nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH), asthma and food allergy, and ulcerative colitis in experimental animal models and clinical settings. Then, we review other studies and discuss how artificial sunlight would be useful for the elderly as one of the environmental nursing practices.
