Resumen
In this study, we aimed to quantitatively monitor and describe the gait functions of patients, who underwent iliac crest bone grafting in atrophic jaw augmentation operation, by taking into account the alterations of gait parameters and muscle forces in the early recovery course. To do so, temporospatial and kinematic gait parameters of ten patients during pre- and postoperative periods were recorded, and forces of the gluteus medius, gluteus maximus, and iliacus muscles were calculated. Three postoperative periods were specified as one week (post-op1), two weeks (post-op2), and three weeks (post-op3) after the surgery. Restoring process of the gait patterns was comparatively evaluated by analyzing the gait parameters and muscle forces for pre- and postoperative periods. Temporospatial and kinematic parameters of post-op3 were closer to those obtained in pre-op than those in post-op1 and post-op2 (p<0.05). Muscle forces calculated in post-op3 showed the best agreement with those in pre-op among the postoperative periods in terms of both magnitude and correlation (p<0.05). In conclusion, the patients began to regain their preoperative gait characteristics from the second week after surgery, but complete recovery in gait was observed three weeks after the surgery.

Resumen
<span>This paper proposes an improved control and monitors between two different PLCs, the Mitsubishi, and Omron. The main advantage is interoperability and communication between both PLC. The use of NI OPC server as the software interface reached interoperability and communication. There were developed two field applications to test interoperability. Laboratory virtual instrument engineering workbench (LabVIEW) uses as the software application for creating the user interface to control and monitor. This improvement show OPC server technology solves data compatibility issue between different driver controller’s and reducing development cost. Regardless of whether there are more than two different PLCs, it's enough to use the NI OPC server. So the benefit of the NI OPC server is not limited to two types of PLC used right now but can also use the other manufacturers. Besides, the improvement of the previous study is the use of the LabVIEW makes data from the OPC server displayed more realistic. The use of LabVIEW allows additional monitoring functions, one of which is LabVIEW vision. Data utilization becomes more flexible, and so it can use for more complex purposes. It is envisaged that this is very useful for Integrator engineer to implement this method in industrial automation</span>

Resumen
Alterations in glycoproteins, important cell surface constituents, have long been associated with various malignancies. The present investigation therefore explored the clinical significance of a glycoproteomics approach in patients with oral precancerous conditions (OPC) and patients with oral cancer. The study included 80 oral cancer patients, 50 patients with OPC, and 84 controls. Native polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis followed by Schiff's staining was carried out to study the alterations in glycoproteins. The results showed significant elevation (p<0.0001) of 192 kDa, 170 kDa, 116 kDa and 44 kDa glycoproteins in oral cancer patients and patients with OPC compared with controls. The odds ratio indicated a significantly higher risk for oral cancer among users and especially chewers of tobacco. The levels of all the glycoprotein bands (192 kDa, 170 kDa, 116 kDa and 44 kDa) were higher in patients with a habit of tobacco use (WHT) than in patients with no habit of tobacco (NHT) and were also higher in WHT controls than in NHT controls. Moreover, a 230 kDa glycoprotein consistently appeared only in individuals with tobacco habits and an increasing trend was observed from WHT controls to patients with OPC to WHT oral cancer patients. In conclusion, the results indicated the potential utility of glycoprotein alterations in monitoring sequential changes occurring due to tobacco consumption during neoplastic transformation.

Resumen
The orthogonal projection approach (OPA) and multivariate curve resolution (MCR) are presented as a way to monitor batch processes using spectroscopic data. Curve resolution allows one to look within a batch and predict on-line real concentration profiles of the different species appearing during reactions. Taking into account the variations of the process by using an augmented matrix of complete batches, the procedure explained here calculates some prediction coefficients that can afterwards be applied for a new batch.

Resumen
Providing web service interface in the function layer is becoming a technology trend. Recent research in computer integrated manufacturing system is focused on integrating this with automation technology. This paper presents an integrated framework for monitoring the state change during rapid prototyping and manufacture (RP&M) processes. Web service interface is exposed in the device control layer and grouped into an aggregation service in the upper layer. In order to wrap the heterogeneous structure of different type of Rapid Prototyping (RP) device and systems, an agent based software framework is developed to reduce the complexity of data transmission and provide an isomorphic web service interface for status-monitoring and event-apperceiving. Compare to the OPA UA specification this framework provides a more simple realization in RP&M process.

Resumen
This paper focused on the same bottom set of field devices, and designed two kinds of field-bus control system, one is PROFIBUS, and another is the Interbus. Applied the OPC technology to realize the information exchange between two bus systems, and applied the PC configuration software, to monitor equipments on the spot. The whole monitoring system included the monitoring program and OPC server program. The monitoring program is no longer included with the specific hardware communication part. The communication monitoring program and hardware are realized by OPC server software, when the system needs to be modified, only need to modify the OPC corresponding part. If the system needs to expand and communicate with the outside world, just need to expand the OPC. After many times field operation, proved the monitoring system of two OPC bus technologies was stable, reliable, and timely control reaction.

Resumen
As health care organizations look for ways to ensure cost-effective, high quality service delivery while still meeting patient needs, organizational performance assessment (OPA) is useful in focusing improvement efforts. In addition, organizational performance assessment is essential for ongoing management decision-making, operational effectiveness and strategy formulation. In this paper, the roles and impact of OPA models in use in health care are reviewed, and areas of potential abuse, such as myopia, tunnel vision and gaming, are identified. The review shows that most existing OPA models were developed primarily as sources of information for purchasers or consumers, or to enable providers to identify areas for improvement. However, there was little conclusive evidence evaluating their impact. This review of existing OPA models enabled the establishment of principles for the development, implementation and prevention of abuse of OPA specific to health care. The OPA models currently in use in health care may provide managers with false confidence in their ability to monitor organizational performance. To further enhance the field of OPA, areas for future research are identified.

Resumen
Jaagsiekte sheep retrovirus (JSRV) is the aetiological agent of ovine pulmonary adenocarcinoma (OPA). To monitor changes in cellular immune function during JSRV infection, lymphoproliferation in response to various mitogens was measured in the blood of conventionally housed and specific-pathogen-free lambs experimentally infected with JSRV until the development of OPA and compared with uninfected control lambs. In addition, blood samples collected from adult field cases in the terminal stages of OPA and control adult sheep were compared. No difference in the proliferative response to phytohaemagglutinin and pokeweed mitogen between the animal groups was detected. In contrast, reduced responses to concanavalin A stimulation were demonstrated in the JSRV-inoculated lambs, prior to the onset of clinical disease, and also in the terminally ill adult sheep. Peripheral blood leukocytes were monitored to identify phenotypic frequency alterations. The CD4 lymphocytopaenia and neutrophilia reported previously in adult OPA cases were demonstrated but similar phenotypic changes were not identified during experimental infection.

Resumen
BackgroundIn 2015, Ambulance Service Medical Directors raised concerns regarding a perceived increase in suicide deaths among ambulance service staff. The Association of Ambulance Chief Executives (AACE) then commissioned a research study to investigate these concerns and provide recommendations towards a suicide prevention strategy. The aim of this study was to determine whether staff who work in the UK ambulance services (AS) are at higher risk of suicide than staff who work in other professions.MethodsData was requested from the Office for National Statistics (ONS) regarding AS staff suicide. Eighteen AS were invited to return data on Occupational Health (OH). AS in England and Wales (n=11) were also asked to return data on staff suicides. Coroners were contacted to request permission to review the records of the deaths.ResultsThe ONS analysis of occupational suicide risk between 2011 and 2015 indicated that there were 20 suicide deaths amongst paramedics in England during that period. The risk of suicide amongst male paramedics was 75% higher than the national average.Over a 2 year period, 8 AS trusts identified 15 staff suicides (11 male, 4 female). The mean age of those dying by suicide was 42 years. Findings from coroners’ records indicated that the predominant suicide method used was hanging (66.7%).ConclusionsThe following recommendations have been accepted by the AACE: a) Develop a mental health strategy for all staff which includes specific emphasis on suicide prevention b) Review and assess suicide risk at times of increased vulnerability c) Collect and monitor data on AS suicides d) Review occupational health, counselling and support services e) Training for staff in identifying and responding to a colleague in distress f) Return to work discussions should consider and establish the status of an individual’s mental health and wellbeing.

Resumen
IntroductionThe introduction of fast-track licensing strategies increases the approval of anti-cancer drugs with ambiguous benefit-risk profiles. Thus, in many instances there is lacking evidence about overall survival (OS) at the time of marketing authorisation. Our objective was to monitor and characterise therapies with ambiguous benefit-risk profiles and identify any post-approval updates on median OS after at least three years of approval by the European Medicines Agency (EMA).MethodsWe included all originator anti-cancer drugs with initially ambiguous benefit-risk profiles that received marketing authorization from the EMA between 1 Jan 2009 and 31 May 2015. Our monitoring timeframe was at least three years after EMA-approval. To identify study updates, the following three sources were included: clinicaltrials.gov, European Public Assessment Reports (EPARs), and PubMed.ResultsIn total, we identified 102 eligible approval studies. Out of these, a negative difference in median OS or no information was available in forty-three (42.2%) instances. During monitoring, eleven updates with accessible information on median OS could be identified. Including monitoring results, there are still thirty-two remaining therapies (31.4%) where no or negative information (n = 27 [26.5%] and n = 5 [4.9%], respectively) regarding median OS was present at least three years after EMA approval.ConclusionsOne-third of oncology drugs with ambiguous benefit-risk profiles failed to demonstrate a survival benefit even several years following marketing authorization. Systematic and transparent post-approval monitoring mechanisms will be of high relevance to assure a clinically relevant patient benefit, since the trend towards faster access to medicines with uncertain benefit is increasing rather than declining.

Resumen
In view of the popularity of mobile device within the industry, a mobile monitor extension of PC-PLC architecture is designed and implemented. The extension module utilizes OLE for Process Control (OPC) technology to access industry control configuration software, and then publishes monitoring operations as service by employing Windows Communication Foundation (WCF), so that management staffs can monitor the process of production by any mobile device which has ability to invoke web service. Since Android operation system has a high market share, some industry controls based on Android are developed, which have been used to configure production pictures. Combing production picture generated in advance and real-time production data, the extension module is able to provide the capability of visual monitoring at any time and place.

In order to realize the batched and long-term testing for different models of CNC system, a testing system was built based on the Supervisory Control And Data Acquisition (SCADA) system architecture. It principally adopted the OLE for Process Control (OPC) technology to develop the client application. Through the millisecond access to the OPC server, the client monitors and stores all the field data points. Furthermore, the objective and accurate test data of CNC system reliability is retained. The client has been applied in analyzing the variation of all the field data points. It shows the testing method is effective.

Resumen
ABSTRACTThe PECVD intrinsic, n+, and p+ a-Si:H thin film deposition processes have been studied by the optical emission spectroscope to monitor the plasma phase chemistry. Process parameters, such as the plasma power, pressure, and gas flow rate, were correlated to SiH*, Hα*, and Hβ* optical intensities. For all films, the deposition rate increases with the increase of the SiH* intensity. For the doped films, the Hα*/SiH* ratio is a critical factor affecting the resistivity. The existence of PH3 or B2H6 in the feed stream enhances the deposition rate. Changes of the free radicals intensities can be used to explain variation of film characteristics under different deposition conditions.

Resumen
Abstract. Poor air quality is the world's single largest environmental health risk, and air quality monitoring is crucial for developing informed air quality policies. Efforts to monitor air pollution in different countries are uneven, largely due to the high capital costs of reference air quality monitors (AQMs), especially for airborne particulate matter (PM). In sub-Saharan Africa, for example, few cities operate AQM systems. It is thus important to examine the potential of alternative monitoring approaches. Although PM measurements can be obtained from low-cost optical particle counters (OPCs), data quality can be an issue. This paper develops a new method using raw aerosol size distributions from multiple, surface-based low-cost OPCs to constrain the Multiangle Imaging SpectroRadiometer (MISR) component-specific, column aerosol optical depth (AOD) data, which contain some particle-size-resolved information. The combination allows us to derive surface aerosol concentrations for particles as small as ∼0.1 µm in diameter, which MISR detects but are below the OPC detection limit of ∼0.5 µm. As such, we obtain better constraints on the near-surface particulate matter (PM) concentration, especially as the smaller particles tend to dominate urban pollution. We test our method using data from five low-cost OPCs deployed in the city of Nairobi, Kenya, from 1 May 2016 to 2 March 2017. As MISR passes over Nairobi only once in about 8 d, we use the size-resolved MISR AODs to scale the more frequent Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectrometer (MODIS)-derived AODs over our sites. The size distribution derived from MISR and MODIS agrees well with that from the OPCs in the size range where the data overlap (adjusted-R2∼0.80). We then calculate surface-PM concentration from the combined data. The situation for this first demonstration of the technique had significant limitations. We thus identify factors that will reduce the uncertainty in this approach for future experiments. Within these constraints, the approach has the potential to greatly expand the range of cities that can afford to monitor long-term air quality trends and help inform public policy.

Resumen
In 2018, seven million people died prematurely due to exposure to pollution. Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) are a significant source of secondary organic aerosol (SOA) in urban areas. We investigated the toxic effects of by-products of naphthalene SOA on lung cells. These by-products were 1,4-naphthoquinone (1,4-NQ), 2-hydroxy-1,4-naphthoquinone (2-OH-NQ), phthalic acid (PA) and phthaldialdehyde (OPA). Two different assessment methodologies were used to monitor the toxic effects: real-time cell analysis (RTCA) and the Holomonitor, a quantitative phase contrast microscope. The chemicals were tested in concentrations of 12.5 to 100 µM for 1,4-NQ and 1 to 10 mM for 2-OH-NQ, PA and OPA. We found that 1,4-NQ is toxic to cells from 25 to 100 µM (EC50: 38.7 µM ± 5.2); 2-OH-NQ is toxic from 1 to 10mM (EC50: 5.3 mM ± 0.6); PA is toxic from 5 to 10 mM (EC50: 5.2 mM ± 0.3) and OPA is toxic from 2.5 to 10 mM (EC50: 4.2 mM ± 0.5). Only 1,4-NQ and OPA affected cell parameters (migration, motility, motility speed and optical volume). Furthermore, 1,4-NQ is the most toxic by-product of naphthalene, with an EC50 value that was one hundred times higher than those of the other compounds. RTCA and Holomonitor analysis showed a complementarity when studying the toxicity induced by chemicals.

Resumen
ABSTRACTWe present herein a joint physical/physico-chemical study and, more specifically, the first application of Matrix Assisted Laser Desorption Ionization coupled with Time of Flight Mass Spectrometry (MALDI-TOF-MS) to analyze small-sized ZnO quantum dots (QDs) (2.8-3.1 nm diameter range) synthesized by sol-gel chemistry and stabilized through an aminosilane coating. A careful investigation of the stability of ZnO QDs was initiated once these dots were dispersed in different media (water, biological buffer) for a period up to 3 weeks. Positive ion mode mass spectra MALDI-TOF-MS combined with optical spectrometry was used to monitor the stability of ZnO QDs when aging. Such a unique combination of MALDI-TOF-MS and physico-chemical techniques is likely to bring new insights into the structure analysis, the stability and consequently the potential toxicity of QDs.

Resumen
Various This paper presents the results of the investigation on the use of Metakaolin (Al2Si2O2) as a supplementary cementing materials to improve the strength of cement. The most effective way to increase the strength of cement is the substitution of a proportion of cement with supplementary cementing materials. One of them was Metakaolin. Metakaolin was produced by thermal treatment calcination from Kaolin at 600-800 Celcius and has highest alumina and silicate purity. By added Metakaolin to Portland Cement type I (OPC), the amount of Calcium Silicate Hydrate (CSH) will increase through binding with Calcium Hydroxide (CaOH). There were two kinds of Metakaolin used in this investigation, commercial metakaolin named Metakaolin Metastar compared with Metakaolin Bangka which derived from Indonesia local resources, Bangka Island. Four Metakaolin replacement levels were employed in this investigation: 5%, 0%, 15%, and 20% with water per cement ratio 0.35, 0.40, and 0.50 both of Metakaolin Metastar and Metakaolin Bangka. The cement pastes cured at room temperature for 7, 14, and 28 days. The mechanical strength examined by compressive strength test, the microstructure were examined by SEM-EDS. The results of the study revealed both Metakaolin Metastar and Metakaolin Bangka enhanced the compressive strength of OPC. The most appropriate strength was obtained for a substitution of 20% metakaolin metastar which had 46,15% higher than OPC and 5% metakaolin Bangka which had 39,06% higher than OPC. The hydration rate was examined by Thermal Analysis Monitor. The results indicated that metakaolin metastar released higher heat than metakaolin Bangka. It can be concluded that Metakaolin metastar was more effective than metakaolin Bangka as additive in OPC.

Resumen
ABSTRACT Mechanisms of resistance to azoles in Candida albicans, the main etiologic agent of oropharyngeal candidiasis (OPC), include alterations in the target enzyme (lanosterol demethylase) and increased efflux of drug. Previous studies on mechanisms of resistance have been limited by the fact that only a single isolate from each OPC episode was available for study. Multiple isolates from each OPC episode were evaluated with oral samples plated in CHROMagar Candida with and without fluconazole to maximize detection of resistant yeasts. A total of 101 isolates from each of three serial episodes of OPC from four different patients were evaluated. Decreasing geometric means of fluconazole MICs with serial episodes of infection were detected in the four patients. However, 8-fold or larger (up to 32-fold) differences in fluconazole MICs were detected within isolates recovered at the same time point in 7 of 12 episodes. Strain identity was analyzed by DNA typing techniques and indicated that isolates from each patient represented mainly isogenic strains, but differed among patients. A Northern blot technique was used to monitor expression ofERG11 (encoding lanosterol demethylase) and genes coding for efflux pumps. This analysis revealed that clinical isolates obtained from the same patient and episode were phenotypically heterogeneous in their patterns of expression of these genes involved in fluconazole resistance. These results demonstrate the complexity of the distribution of the molecular mechanisms of antifungal drug resistance and indicate that different subpopulations of yeasts may coexist at a given time in the same patient and may develop resistance through different mechanisms.

Resumen
This work demonstrates a simple, reproducible and scalable method of producing a potential slow-release fertilizer material. In this study, oxalate-phosphate-amine metal organic frameworks (OPA-MOFs) powder was synthesized from the hydrothermal treatment of ferric chloride (FeCl3•6H2O), orthophosphoric acid (H3PO4), oxalic acid dihydrate (H2C2O4•2H2O), and a common fertilizer, urea (CO(NH2)2). Being a structure directing agent (SDA)-type of MOF, the material is expected to slowly release urea via cation exchange, and eventually trigger the collapse of the framework, thus resulting to the subsequent release of the phosphates and iron-oxalate complexes. Elemental analysis revealed that the synthesized samples contains a promising amount of incorporated nitrogen and phosphorus. In this particular study, increasing in the amount of urea during the synthesis however revealed minimal change in the %N in the final product which tells us that maximum loading has already been achieved. P and N release experiments shall still be done bothinvitroand in actual soil samples to monitor the release delivery kinetics and efficiency of the OPA-MOFs for fertilizer release applications.

Resumen
ABSTRACTIn the framework of bioanalytics and multiple array detection, we developed a fully portable and low-cost detection system based on Localized Surface Plasmon Resonance (LSPR) in a transmission configuration (T-LSPR). The transmission approach is suitable to be scaled to small dimension systems and to enable high-density array measurements on the same platform. Our setup is made out of off-the-shelf components and consists of a set of discrete light sources and a couple of light-detectors which enable a differential measurement setup. An algorithm fits the measured data and extracts the information of the plasmon peak position in the spectrum. The performance of our T-LSPR measurement system has been characterized on a set of Fluorinated Tin Oxide-coated glass slides covered with gold Nanoislands (NIs). The samples have been modified with a single-stranded DNA layer and a real-time DNA hybridization experiment has been performed. Here we demonstrate that the proposed T-LSPR device, based on the characterization of the plasmon peak with a differential approach, is able to monitor real-time DNA hybridization on surface, and to precisely measure the position of the peak with a standard deviation in wavelength of 0.2 nm.

Abstract. Within the framework of the Natural Environment Research Council (NERC) Oxidant and Particle Photochemical Processes (OP3) project, a pulsed Doppler lidar was deployed for a 3 month period in the tropical rain forest of Borneo to remotely monitor vertical and horizontal transport, aerosol distributions and clouds in the lower levels of the atmosphere. These data are presented with a view to elucidating the scales and structures of the transport processes, which effect the chemical and particulate concentrations in and above the forest canopy, for applications in the parameterisation of climate models. Analysis of the clear-air vertical velocity data set is shown to enable direct characterisation of the diurnal variations in the boundary layer mixing processes.

Resumen
ABSTRACTOne of the main problems encountered by curators and conservators in charge of metallic collections from Historical Heritage is related to their long-term conservation, since metallic artifacts undergo corrosion phenomena, which are the result of the interaction between the metal and its environment. The use of rust converters and microcrystalline waxes can be an ecological alternative to the traditional and more aggressive conservation techniques. Although the mechanism of action of these compounds is not clear, it is assumed that they react with iron oxides and generate new compounds that may have a passivation effect on the metallic surface. This paper proposes to show how simple electrochemical techniques can be used as an efficient tool to contribute to the diagnosis of the conservation state of cannon balls and to monitor the restoration treatment. The objective of the present work is to evaluate the effectiveness of a rust converter based on tannins and phosphoric acid, and one microcrystalline wax applied on cannon balls samples exposed to a marine atmosphere. The protection properties of the oxide or conversion layer are evaluated by electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) technique. The results obtained suggest that the use of the rust converter and microcrystalline wax protects the cannon balls, even though its effect is less evident when the deterioration degree is larger.

Resumen
Abstract. There is considerable interest in using low-cost optical particle counters (OPCs) to supplement existing routine air quality networks that monitor particle mass concentrations. In order to do this, low-cost OPC data need to be comparable with particle mass reference instrumentation; however, there is currently no widely agreed upon methodology to accomplish this. Aerosol hygroscopicity is known to be a key parameter to consider when correcting particle mass concentrations derived from low-cost OPCs, particularly at high ambient relative humidity (RH). Correction factors have been developed that apply κ-Köhler theory to correct for the influence of water uptake by hygroscopic aerosols. We have used datasets of co-located reference particle measurements and low-cost OPC (OPC-N2, Alphasense) measurements, collected in four cities on three continents, to explore the performance of this correction factor. We provide evidence that the elevated particle mass concentrations, reported by the low-cost OPC relative to reference instrumentation, are due to bulk aerosol hygroscopicity under different RH conditions, which is determined by aerosol composition and, in particular, the levels of hygroscopic aerosols (sulfate and nitrate). We exploit measurements made in volcanic plumes in Nicaragua, which are predominantly composed of sulfate aerosol, as a natural experiment to demonstrate this behaviour in the ambient atmosphere; the observed humidogram from these measurements closely resembles the calculated pure sulfuric acid humidogram. The results indicate that the particle mass concentrations derived from low-cost OPCs during periods of high RH (>60 %) need to be corrected for aerosol hygroscopic growth. We employed a correction factor based on κ-Köhler theory and observed that the corrected OPC-N2 PM2.5 mass concentrations were within 33 % of reference measurements at all sites. The results indicated that a κ value derived in situ (using suitable reference instrumentation) would lead to the most accurate correction relative to co-located reference instruments. Applying a κ values from the literature in the correction factor also resulted in improved OPC-N2 performance, with the measurements being within 50 % of the reference values. Therefore, for areas where suitable reference instrumentation for developing a local correction factor is lacking, using a literature κ value can result in a reasonable correction. For locations with low levels of hygroscopic aerosols and low RH values, a simple calibration against gravimetric measurements (using suitable reference instrumentation) would likely be sufficient. Whilst this study generated correction factors specific for the Alphasense OPC-N2 sensor, the calibration methodology developed is likely amenable to other low-cost PM sensors.
