Resumen
Abstract The article is a re-edition of a papyrus published in the fourth volume of The Oxyrhynchus Papyri as a descriptum. It is a second-century will made for a female testator in Oxyrhynchos. One of the dispositions preserved in this text draws attention as it resembles the Roman legatum per praeceptionem, although the will was made for a peregrine.

Resumen
"The ancient city of Per-Medyed, located in the 19th nome of Upper Egypt, was called Oxyrhynchus in Greek times. During the GraecoRoman period, the main female divinity of this locality was the goddess Taweret , who was associated with the arrival of the flood and was represented by two fishes, the oxyrhynchus (Mormyridae family), with whom she was linked, and the lepidot. On this site, the oxyrhynchus fish always appears adorned with a Hathor crown, the symbol of feminine divinity, and closely related to the goddess Taweret. Iconographically, it is represented in tombs, temples, cartonnage, stelae, sarcophagi and also in small bronze sculptures, which very often appear arranged on a sledge. Although these statuettes are usually anepigraphic, sometimes they have a demotic inscription on the plinth, on which the sledge rests, which always alludes to the goddessTaweret , for the purpose of protection and rebirth to a new life. The oldest attestations we have of the cult of this oxyrhynchus fish in Oxyrhynchus, comes from classical authors such as Strabo, Herodotus or Plutarch. The papyri found on the site mention the existence of one main temple as well as a secondary temple dedicated to Taweret, and another one, dedicated to the oxyrhynchus, and they even refer to a congregation of priests who fulfilled the specific rituals of this cult."

Resumen
The Hellenistic Greek papyrus Oxyrhynchus 1381 contains a translator’s prologue that has been overlooked by translation historians despite its significance as evidence for a far more creative view of religious translation outside the confines of the Judaeo-Christian tradition. This important text is described in its historical context and compared to contemporaneous Pagan and early contending Judaeo-Christian developments in sacred translation as well as to classical secular translation practices. This will provide some valuable insights into the many factors informing the ancient origins and evolution of modern expectations and concerns in the western translation community such as translatability issues, preoccupations with fidelity, rigid adherence to the source text, the translator’s invisibility and lack of creative freedom.

An individual of Longnose marbled whipray Fluvitrygon oxyrhyncha (Sauvage, 1878) (60 cm of total length) was caught and photographed on 3 August 2020, from Pahang River, Kuala Lipis District, Pahang, Malaysia. This rare finding represents the first-ever known record of F. oxyrhyncha in Malaysian waters, and only the fourth record in Southeast Asia besides former records of F. oxyrhyncha from Thailand, Cambodia, and Indonesia. Further study and monitoring is needed to asses the possibility of the importance of Pahang River as habitat of F. oxyrhyncha.

Resumen
AbstractMost New Testament papyri with a known provenance were found at the site of the ancient Egyptian city of Oxyrhynchus, or more precisely: on that city’s rubbish mounds. The fact that sacred scriptures were discarded as garbage is surprising in view of the holiness of Christian biblical manuscripts, intrinsically and physically. Yet the trash aspect of provenance has never been adequately problematized or studied. Taking a social-historical and garbological approach, this article demonstrates that at Oxyrhynchus in antiquity entire manuscripts with biblical writings were deliberately discarded by Christians themselves, unrelated to persecution and issues of canonicity.

Resumen
A new albulid fish, Phosphonatator oxyrhynchus, based on a single large neurocranium, is described from the deposits of the Ouled Abdoun phosphatic basin, Morocco. The matrix of the fossil contains an elasmobranch assemblage indicating a Danian age (with some redeposited Maastrichtian elements). P. oxyrhynchus is characterized notably by its elongated snout and by a reduced patch of teeth on the parasphenoid. Up to now, fossil fishes from the Ouled Abdoun phosphatic basin were mainly known by isolated remains, and the recovery of this specimen should be ranked equal to the recent discovery of important, very well-preserved new material of vertebrates in the Sidi Daoui area.

Resumen
The tattered remains of a few paragraphs of a work on harmonic theory were published in 1986 as P. Oxy. LIII.3706, with a careful commentary by M. W. Haslam. There are six fragments. Four of them (frr. 3–6) are too small for any substantial sense to be recovered; and while fr. 2 and the second column of fr. 1 allow us to pick out significant words and phrases here and there, the remnants of these columns are very narrow, and the line of reasoning seems inaccessible. Musicological analysis must focus on the first column of fr. 1. There is little enough even of that, and in attempting a relatively detailed interpretation I shall have to be rather less cautious than Haslam quite properly was. But I think that something can be made of it without stretching speculation too far, and if I am right the piece is of some genuine interest. Here are the two versions of the text that Haslam prints. The first records what is decipherable on the papyrus itself, while the second represents a partial reconstruction, restoring word-divisions and some of the missing letters.

Resumen
Eleven tri- and tetra-meric motif microsatellite loci were identified in a lake sturgeon genomic library and were tested against the six North American species of Acipenser (lake sturgeon, A. fulvescens; shortnose sturgeon, A. brevirostrum; white sturgeon, A. transmontanus; green sturgeon, A. medirostris; Atlantic sturgeon, A. oxyrhynchus oxyrhynchus; gulf sturgeon, A. o. desotoi) and the two species of Scaphirhynchus (pallid sturgeon, S. albus; shovelnose sturgeon, S. platorhynchus) using four to six individuals of each species. Eight loci were amplified equally well in all eight species, and the remaining three loci were amplified in two, four, and seven species, respectively. Of the eight loci that worked in all species, one was monomorphic in all species, while the other seven were polymorphic in three to eight species. Single repeat differences in these tri- and tetra-meric repeat motifs can be readily scored on 4% Metaphor agarose gels stained with ethidium bromide. In addition, dosage for those loci exhibiting four gene doses can also be readily scored with this technique. These loci provide a much needed group of genetic markers, detectable with non-invasive sampling (blood, barbel, or fin), that should work well in threatened and endangered species of sturgeon worldwide.

Resumen
Nineteenth century novelists felt constrained to supply their readers with well-chosen epigraphs, and the personal canons from which they drew them, whilst seldom exclusively Biblical, provided a convenient index to their individual literary and philosophical predilections. Thomas Pynchon's canon is wilfully idiosyncratic and frequently apocryphal, but his epigraphs are no less apposite than George Eliot's; for in creating a fictional world out of what is largely palpable history Pynchon produces a homogenous medium which is neither fiction nor history. I have chosen the epigraph above because in addition to illustrating this admixture of fiction and history it also intimates to the reader an aspect of Pynchon's technique which may go some way towards explaining the rationale behind it. Some parts ofGravity's Rainbow, I think, might best be described as an attempt at writing a twentieth century “gospel.”The Oxyrhynchus papyri, referred to in the epigraph actually exist. They were discovered in 1898 and 1904 in Egypt, and were fragments of purported sayings of Jesus of Nazareth dating from the second century A.D. Not until 1956, when the translation of a gnostic library discovered at Nag Hammedai in Egypt was completed, did it become clear that the Oxyrhynchus papyri were fragments of a work calling itself theGospel of Thomas.

In 1930 Hunt and Johnson published the remains of P. Oxy. 2064, a roll containing at least some of the poems attributed to Theocritus and dating from the late second century A.d. (A. S. Hunt and J. Johnson, Two Theocritus Papyri [London: Egypt Exploration Society, 1930], 3–19). The papyrus was important, even though very fragmentary (no column is preserved complete, and very few lines are wholly intact), since at its time of publication it was one of the three earliest witnesses to the text of Theocritus. Fragments of other early papyri of Theocritus have been published since then, but P. Oxy. 2064 has remained the most important known witness prior to the fifth century because of the spread of poems which the extant fragments show it to have contained. No other papyrus allows us to reconstruct the contents of an early Theocritus book to such an extent. In 1983 the editors of Oxyrhynchus Papyri published a further collection of Theocritus fragments from various papyri (P. Oxy. 3545–3552), among which were more remains from P. Oxy. 2064 edited by P. J. Parsons under the number P. Oxy. 3548 (Oxyrhynchus Papyri L [Graeco-Roman Memoirs, 70: London, 1983], 105–22).

Resumen
Abstract Species distribution models (SDMs) are often empirically developed on spatially and temporally biased samples and then applied over much larger spatial scales to test ecological hypotheses or to inform management. Underlying this approach is the assumption that the statistical relationships between species observations and environmental predictors are applicable to other locations and times. However, testing and quantifying the transferability of these models to new locations and times can be a challenge for resource managers because of the technical difficulty in obtaining species observations in new locations in a dynamic environment. Here, we apply two SDMs developed in the Mid-Atlantic Bight for Atlantic sturgeon (Acipenser oxyrhynchus oxyrhynchus) to the South Atlantic Bight and use an autonomous underwater vehicle to test model predictions. We compare Atlantic sturgeon occurrence to two SDMs: one associating sturgeon occurrence with simple seascapes and one developed through coupling occurrences with environmental predictors in a generalized additive mixed model (GAMM). Our analysis showed that the seascape model was transferable across these disparate regions; however, the complex GAMM was not. The association of the imperilled Atlantic sturgeon with simple seascapes allows managers to easily integrate this remotely sensed dynamic oceanographic product into future ecosystem-based management strategies.

Resumen
This article presents the editio princeps and a brief discussion of a Christian amulet that preserves Colossians 3:9-10 in Greek on papyrus. The amulet was discovered at Oxyrhynchus by W.M. Flinders Petrie and is currently housed in the Petrie Egyptian Museum in London. This is currently the first amulet to preserve a passage from Colossians in Greek and it appears that the amulet served as an aide mémoire to the person wearing it to remind the person of the meaning of Christian baptism.
