Resumen
Objective: Although numerous studies have assessed patient satisfaction in diverse settings, in the realm of nursing surgical care, standardization of measurement for patient experience and satisfaction is lacking. Therefore, the aim of this study was to assess the satisfaction of surgical patients with perioperative nursing care. Method: A descriptive cross-sectional survey was conducted. Sociodemographic characteristics and clinical data were recorded. Patient satisfaction was measured with a modified version of the La Monica–Oberst Patient Satisfaction Scale (LOPSS-12). Results: 150 patients (73 women, 49% and 77 men; 51%) completed the survey. The mean age was 63 years (standard deviation, 16 years). The mean overall satisfaction score on the La Monica–Oberst Patient Satisfaction Scale was 3.17 (standard deviation, 0.21). The scale showed adequate content validity (Lawshe’s Content Validity Index was 0.76) and moderate reliability (Cronbach’s alpha = 0.70). Two variables—patient sex and the presence of comorbidities—were significantly associated with overall satisfaction: men and patients with comorbidities were more satisfied with the care received. Patients with university studies were significantly more likely than patients with less education to consider nurses “impatient,” but also considered the nurses’ advice to be “useful.” Patients with hospital-acquired complications were more likely to perceive nurses to be “more interested in completing tasks than in listening,” although they also felt that nurses worked “conscientiously.” Conclusion: Overall, patient satisfaction with perioperative nursing care was good. This study identified several areas of nursing care in need of improvement, particularly the need to spend more time with patients and to keep them better informed about the perioperative process. The modified La Monica–Oberst Patient Satisfaction Scale is suitable for measuring surgical patient satisfaction with perioperative nursing care. The findings presented here may be of value to nursing administrators, educators, and nursing care providers to improve patient satisfaction and to develop strategies to prevent patient dissatisfaction.

Resumen
Objective: to analyze the satisfaction of cancer patients on nursing care. Methods: descriptive quantitative research with 190 patients receiving outpatient chemotherapy in the High Complexity Centre in Oncology, through a questionnaire. Results: 185 respondents (97.4%; 95.0% CI 94.7 to 99.9) said they were always satisfied with the care provided, however, less than a third assessed that charisma (34.2%; 95.0% CI 27.4 to 39.5), respect for their decisions (31.6%; 95.0% CI 24.7 to 37.4) and clear communication (26.3%, CI 20.0 to 31.1) were decisive factors for their satisfaction. Conclusion:the study revealed an excellent level of patient satisfaction on nursing care, although some factors considered by users as decisive for the identification of this feeling have not been significantly identified. This justifies the need for critical reflection, in the professional’s view, that fosters the implementation of changes and to better meet the expectations and needs of the patient.

Resumen
Patient satisfaction with nursing is an important indicator of the quality of the nursing services. This study used The Patient Perception of Hospital Experience With Nursing (PPHEN) scale (Dozier, Kitzman, Ingersol, Holmberg, & Schultz, 2001) to determine the nursing care perception of patients in a Turkish tertiary care hospital. The study design was descriptive comparative and used convenience sampling. In total, 566 patients volunteered to take part in the study. The patient satisfaction level with nursing was found to be below average; patient satisfaction showed no meaningful differences between genders, marital status, or the clinics where the patient was hospitalized, but significantly higher levels of satisfaction were found with higher levels of education, younger age, higher incomes, and being employed. Overall, the patients considered that nursing care needs improvement, especially in terms of the provision of information and psychosocial support.

Resumen
Concept clarity is essential for instrument development and validity of research findings. The process of concept clarification can help rectify some of the issues in the measurement of patient satisfaction. This study presents a strategy, for concept clarification, for the purpose of refinement of an existing instrument for measuring patient satisfaction with nursing care in the hospital setting. The results of the exercise yielded a definition of patient satisfaction with nursing care, including a new framework, and provided guidance for rewording two items, elimination of some items related to knowledge and skill of nurses, as well as generating new items not previously included in the original instrument.

Resumen
Registered nurses (RNs) play a critical role in patient satisfaction. Affective support, health information, professional/technical competencies, and decisional control are imperative factors in ensuring satisfaction. However, bureaucratic organizational structure of hospitals is straining nurses’ ability to provide care that meets patients’ expectations. To overcome these challenges, Ray’s theory of bureaucratic caring provides a framework that integrates caring into complex hospital systems. This document will focus on the impact that social, economic, and legal elements have on patient satisfaction and the implications these trends have on RNs and their future practice.

Resumen
PurposePromoting patient satisfaction is crucial for healthcare quality improvement. However, literature on patient satisfaction with nursing care in Ghana is limited. The aim of this study was to assess patient satisfaction with perioperative nursing care in Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital, the largest tertiary hospital in Ghana.Design/methodology/approachThe study was a cross-sectional study. A sample of one hundred (n = 100) in-patients in the surgical department were interviewed. Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS), version 22, was used to analyze the data. The results were presented using univariate, bivariate and multivariate analyses.FindingsIt was found that majority of the respondents were males (53%), employed (56%) and insured (85%). It was also found that eight in ten respondents were satisfied with the perioperative nursing care. Overall patient satisfaction with perioperative nursing care was significantly associated with information provision (p < 0.001), nurse–patient relationship (p < 0.001), fear and concern (p < 0.05) and discomfort and need (p < 0.05). At the multivariate level, overall patient satisfaction was significantly influenced by nurse–patient relationship (β = 0.430, p = 0.002).Originality/valueThere is limited literature on nursing care in surgical departments and rarely are patients' views considered in assessing quality of perioperative care, especially in Low- and Middle- Income Countries (LMICs). This study is a modest contribution to the literature on patient satisfaction with perioperative nursing care in Ghana.

Resumen
Introduction. Patient satisfaction with nursing care is considered as an important factor in explaining patients’ perceptions of service quality. Care assessed to be high quality according to clinical, economic, or other provider-defined criteria is far from ideal if as a result of that care the patient is unhappy or dissatisfied. Objective. The aim of this study was to assess adult patients’ satisfaction with inpatient nursing care and associated factors in Dessie Referral Hospital, Northeast Ethiopia. Methods. Institution based quantitative cross-sectional study was conducted among patients admitted in medical, surgical, orthopedics, gynecology, and ophthalmology wards of the hospital from March 24 to April 30, 2013. All admitted patients who stayed in the study wards for at least two days during the data collection time were interviewed. Newcastle Satisfaction with Nursing Scale questionnaire was used to collect the data and was analyzed using SPSS version 20. Odds ratios with their 95% confidence intervals and p values in a multiple logistic regression were used to identify factors associated with patient satisfaction with nursing care. Result. The overall patient satisfaction was 52.5%. Respondents’ sex, age, admission ward, self-reported health status, and class of admission were the variables significantly associated with patient satisfaction with nursing care. Conclusion and Recommendation. The rate of patient satisfaction with nursing care was found to be low in this study. Being female, younger age group (18–30 years), good self-reported current health status, being admitted in ophthalmology ward, and first class of admission were significantly associated with better patient satisfaction with nursing care. In-service training programs for nurses, with special emphasis on communication skills, are recommended.

Resumen
Patient satisfaction has become an integral part of the process of measuring the quality of the provided care. Patients’ satisfaction about healthcare services increases in institutions that provide healthy workplace environment for nurses.This quantitative study aims to measure the impact of nurse practice environment on patients’ satisfaction with the provided nursing care services. A cross-sectional design was conducted to survey 75 male and female nurses and 107 inpatients who were hospitalized at least one day and aged 17 years and older. Sample was selected from medical and surgical wards of two main teaching hospitals in AL-Najaf province, Iraq.The results show that 80% of the nurses work in poor practice environment. About 52% of the patients were partially satisfied with nursing care; whereas, about 47% of the patients were unsatisfied. A significant correlation was found between nurse practice environment and patients’ satisfaction p < .05; regression analysis shows that patients’ satisfaction can be predicted based on nurse-patient ratio. Conclusion: Enhancing the practice environment of nurses helps improving the quality of healthcare and achieving better level of patients’ satisfaction with nursing care services. Keywords: Nurses workplace; patient satisfaction; practice environment; nursing care;

Resumen
Patients, during their stay at hospital, have the right to receive qualitative care and patients’ wellbeing depends on it. Patients’ wellbeing is based on satisfaction with care, which is influenced by, made by several conditions: communication of nurses, professionalism, education and timely provision thereof. Research aim: analyse the satisfaction of patients with the care provided by nurses. Research methods: Quantitative research method – original questionnaire “Newcastle Satisfaction with Nursing Scale” (NSNS).The results of the research: Patient who gives the assessment on nursing quality, with his sense of health condition of the specific period, general and individual requirements, personalized wishes and expectations can influence the satisfaction assessment, because he always is the source subjective variations. Even though the level of patients’ satisfaction is important and considerable indicator for nursing quality, by means of which it is possible to determine the efficiency of the provided care. This is a real means to identify the implemented fields of nursing aims, and improve the process if required, to ensure the quality. Nursing quality is based on patient-centred approach to achieve the common preferable health-care results.

Resumen
No studies have examined the association between patient satisfaction and the allocation of nursing care hours using a workload management system. The aim of this study is to examine the correlation between inpatients’ perceived satisfaction with nursing care and nursing workload management in a Singapore hospital. A secondary data analysis was performed based on the results of 270 patients’ perceived satisfaction measured by the Revised Humane Caring Scale and nursing workload management data extracted from the TrendCare Patient Acuity System. Data were collected from March to October 2013. There were weak positive ( rs = .212 to rs = .120) and negative ( rs = −.120 to rs = −.196) correlations between patient satisfaction and nursing workload. Nursing leaders should build positive work environment through maximizing efficient resource allocation and adequate staffing to deliver safe patient care. Future studies could involve other patient outcomes such as incidences of fall and pressure ulcer.

Resumen
Intense staff shortages and heavy workloads are common characteristics of Tehran educational hospitals. This may contribute to changes in patients’ perceptions of nurse caring and satisfaction with healthcare services. The time that nurses previously allotted to direct care has been reduced, possibly restricting the effects of nursing care. For this study, data were collected using the Persian versions of the revised Caring Behaviors Inventory and the Patient Satisfaction Instrument. Data were analyzed using SPSS for Windows. Findings support earlier western evidence that nurse caring is associated with patient satisfaction with nursing care. It is important to reflect on the impact of culture, religion, and current healthcare environment of Iran on nurse caring and patient satisfaction.

Resumen
Patient satisfaction and how it is measured is an important field of study in healthcare. Consequently, there have been many patient satisfaction studies. However, there is a lack of studies that focused on how male and female patients perceive, or weigh, their overall satisfaction. Determining the weights of these attributes by gender is an important outcome to determine overall patient satisfaction and quality of care. Data were collected by applying the Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (HCAHPS) survey instrument to record regular patient experience at 70 United States hospitals. The data were collected between July 1, 2011 and June 30, 2012, and there are 43,938 cases in the data set. This study found that all five of the attributes (Nursing Care, Physician Care, Staff Care, Room, and Help) had an association with patient satisfaction. Among them, nursing Care had the largest influence on patient satisfaction of all of the five attributes. This study also showed a statistically significant interaction effect by gender for the interaction between Nursing care x Gender, Physician care x Gender, and Help x Gender. Female patients rated their relationship with their nurses as being more important to their overall satisfaction, while male patients rated their relationship with their doctor as being more important to overall satisfaction. Male patients also rated their relationship with help as being more important to overall satisfaction when compared with the results from female patients. Suggestions to healthcare managers are also discussed.

Resumen
Introduction: Assessing the quality of nursing care has become a global health issue. especially for caregivers and recipients of care in the inpatient department. Patient satisfaction is one of the indicators to measure quality of nursing care. This study aimed to identify the differences of patient satisfaction level in inpatient ward based on socio-demographic characteristics at Siloam Hospitals Bali. Methods: This study was cross-sectional design with descriptive comparative and correlation methods. Patient satisfaction data were collected using the Patient Satisfaction with Nursing Care Quality Questionnaire (PSNCQQ) that was provided after the patient was discharged. Purposive sampling technique was used to determine 107 samples. The analytical tests used in this study were the Spearman correlation test, Mann-Whitney test and Kruskal-Wallis test. Results: The results of this study showed that there was a significant weak and negative correlation between the level of satisfaction and age of the patient (p = 0.017; r = -0.231; α <0.05). There were significant differences of patient satisfaction based on marital status (p = 0.036; α <0.05) and nationality status (p = 0.001; α <0.05), but there were no differences in patient satisfaction based on sex (p = 0.276; α <0.05) and education level (p = 0.434; α <0.05).Conclusion: This study concluded that social demographic characteristics of patients can influence the satisfaction, but only on age, marital and nationality status. This showed that inpatients provide good satisfaction evaluations of nursing care. The optimal nursing care needs to be maintained and improved, either routine evaluation or sustainable program development.

Resumen
The nursing practice refers to a wide range of tasks and responsibilities. In a situation where there is a problem of limited resources, nurses are forced to ration the patient’s care—that is, minimize and skip some tasks. The main purpose of this work was to assess the rationing level of nursing care among staff in the intensive care units. Methods: The research included 150 anaesthesiological nurses in the Silesian Region in Poland. The research was conducted from July to October 2019 using the standardized Perceived Implicit Rationing of Nursing Care (PRINCA) questionnaire on rationing nursing care, assessing the quality of patient care, and job satisfaction. The Modified Fatigue Impact Scale (MFIS) standardized questionnaire was used to assess the level of fatigue of respondents in the physical, cognitive, and psychosocial spheres. Results: Sociodemographic factors, such as gender, age, place of residence, education, seniority, and type of employment were not found to affect the rationing level of nursing care in the intensive care unit. The average quality of patient care was 6.05/10 points, while the average job satisfaction rating was 7.13/10 points. Analysis of the MFIS questionnaire showed that respondents experienced fatigue between “rare” and “sometimes”, and nursing staff fatigue was the main factor for rationing care. Conclusions: The higher the level of fatigue, the greater the rationing of care and the less satisfaction from work.

Resumen
The medical services market is inevitably changing. Competition among health care institutions is growing, patients’ health awareness and expectations regarding the quality of health services are increasing. This translates directly into, among others, to the patient’s choice of medical facility. “Satisfaction” defined as “general satisfaction accompanying the consumption of products or services” is an important aspect affecting the position of a healthcare institution on the health services market. While in the hospital, the patient carefully observes and remembers many details of behaviors and reactions he encounters. Opinions of patients about a medical facility are usually subjective and relate mainly to satisfaction with the treatment process, therefore the lack of proper care in terms of patients’ needs may result in the loss of the hospital’s reputation. A very important aspect of the assessment of any medical service is the direct relationship between the patient and medical staff, mainly nurse. Among the factors affecting the level of patient satisfaction during a hospital stay are, inter alia, the availability of a doctor, nursing care, conditions in the ward, the possibility of patient participation in the treatment process, providing the patient with information in a clear and reliable manner, and improved health. Factors related to nursing care that have the greatest impact on the patient’s level of satisfaction comprise the nurse’s individual approach to the patient, time devoted to him, providing professional information, patient education and scrupulous nursing activities. The aim: The aim of the paper was to assess the role of perioperative nursing care in the satisfaction of patients after hip and knee joint replacements.
