This thesis presents an experimental study of the superconducting proximity effect in sub-micrometer sized ferromagnetic discs. Such discs belong to a class of mesoscopic ferromagnets intermediate between microscopic magnets with dimensions below about 10nm that behave as single giant spins and macroscopic structures that are larger than approximately 1 micrometer where domains are formed to minimise stray fields. A study of the martensitic phase transition in the shape memory alloy Ni2MnGa has been carried out. Ni2MnGa is one of the group of "shape memory effect" alloys which are currently exciting considerable interest. The origin of this effect in the compound is in the phase change which takes place on cooling through T = 200 K from the cubic L21 Heusler structure to a tetragonal phase. Recently the results of band structure calculations have been used to conclude that in Ni2MnGa the structural phase transition is driven by a band Jahn-Teller distortion.

A series of Ni-Fe-Ga alloys near the prototype Heusler composition (X2YZ) were fabricated and homogenized at 1423 °K, and a Ni₅₃Fe₁₉Ga₂₈ alloy was subsequently annealed at various temperatures below and above the B2/L21 ordering temperature. Les hétérostructures de taille nanométrique comprenant des matériaux supraconducteurs (S) en contact avec des matériaux métalliques (N) ou ferromagnétiques (F) présentent des propriétés surprenantes. L'effet de proximité dans les structures F/S/F se manifeste par l'effet vanne de spin. Dans les jonctions S/F/S, on voit l'apparition d'une transition de phase 0-p. Ces propriétés dépendent des paramètres internes du ferromagnétiques. The,purpose of the thesis is to report the inve?tigation of superconducting phase-periodic conductance oscillations in ferromagnetic wires with interfaces to conventional superconductors. The ferromagnetic wires were made of Holmium(Ho), a conical ferromagnet, and Aluminium(AI) is used as superconductor. The distance between the interfaces was much larger than the singlet superconducting penetration depth. The observed oscillations is explained as due to the long-range penetration of an unusual helical triplet component of the order parameter that is generated at the superconductor/ferromagnet

Parmi les aimants sans terres raresactuellement étudiés, τ-MnAl ferromagnétique est uncandidat à haut potentiel, car il possède despropriétés magnétiques intrinsèques prometteuses.Dans cette thèse, Mn(Fe)AlC a été synthétisé parbroyage mécanique. Les effets du carbone sur lamicrostructure et les propriétés magnétiques ont étéétudiés. Les résultats montrent qu’une pureté élevéede τ-MnAl(C) pouvait être obtenue avec un dopage à2% en atomes de carbone, montrant clairement l’effetstabilisant du carbone. L’alliage Mn54.2Al43.8C2possède les meilleures propriétés magnétiques :aimantation à 2T M2T = 4
