For network planning and optimization purposes, mobile operators make use of Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), computed from Performance Measurements (PMs), to determine whether network performance needs to be improved. In current networks, PMs, and therefore KPIs, suffer from lack of precision due to an insufficient temporal and/or spatial granularity. In this work, an automatic method, based on data traces, is proposed to improve the accuracy of radio network utilization measurements collected in a Long-Term Evolution (LTE) network. The method’s output is an accurate estimate of the spatial and temporal distribution for the cell utilization ratio that can be extended to other indicators. The method can be used to improve automatic network planning and optimization algorithms in a centralized Self-Organizing Network (SON) entity, since potential issues can be more precisely detected and located inside a cell thanks to temporal and spatial precision. The proposed method is tested with real connection traces gathered in a large geographical area of a live LTE network and considers overload problems due to trace file size limitations, which is a key consideration when analysing a large network. Results show how these distributions provide a very detailed information of network utilization, compared to cell based statistics.

This article discusses that computer-based technologies have greatly influenced the way design engineers work. The first technological innovation was the use of high-powered personal computers. With PCs, engineers had access to high-speed applications of computer-aided design software right at their own desks. Personal computers took the place of rulers and pencils. The second innovation, he said, is the advancing capability of PCs to function as supercomputers, crunching numbers much faster than formerly possible. By taking advantage of this technology, engineers untrained in a mathematical application such as finite element analysis can run an FEA software program that performs calculations automatically and will shave weeks off the design process. Hothouse uses the Spatial technology to repair CAD models brought in from outside sources and to translate CAD files the company sends to its suppliers, collaborators, and clients. Before Hothouse began sending CAD files to the online service, company employees spent days repairing or rebuilding files on their own. Sometimes suppliers or clients that received Hothouse CAD files had to do similar work on their end.

Data communication is the process of exchanging data between two or more devices through a transmission medium such as a cable. In order for the data communication can occur, the device must be connected to communicate with each other or be a part of a communication system consisting of hardware (hardware) and software (software). Samba server is a software bridge between the two operating systems that run within a computer network. Samba is able to share files with computers that use operating system linux, unix and windows with a peer to peer system. The time needed on the LAN network access system based on client file servers using Samba server with a minimum file size of 3MB and a maximum of 1GB for the download process is 04 minutes 54 seconds while the upload is 09 minutes 24 seconds. Speed transfer rate that is produced with a minimum file size of 3MB and a maximum of 1GB for the download process is 4.762Kbps and to upload is 1.896Kbps. On QoS testing conducted on 5 PCs, 10PC, 15pc and client 20PC result more and more PC client that accesses 1 file the success rate will be getting worse, it is because the bottleneck on the network.Kata Kunci : Network, client server, Samba Server

Most manufacturers of scanning electron microscopes (SEM) now offer models that display an image digitally. This holds many advantages, including the ability to store the image on a disk and perform image analysis on the sample. Most SEMs in service, however, produce only an analog video output; they do not have the ability to digitize the image. Film is the only method of storing images.Consequentially, film is a significant portion of every microscopy laboratory’s budget. Completely eliminating the use of film from use is not practical. There will always be the need to examine a hard copy of the image; many programs require duplicate copies of each image generated; and it is sound practice to keep a copy of each image on file. By archiving digital images to an inexpensive media, the amount of film used or the time devoted to processing negatives can be greatly reduced.By using personal computers (PCs)s, with a digitizing board and analog to digital (A/D) board, it is possible to construct a relatively low cost digitizing system for any SEM.

Subjects ( N = 60) were randomly assigned to an elated, depressed, or neutral mood-induction condition to assess the effect of mood state on cognitive functioning. In the elated condition film fragments expressing happiness and euphoria were shown. In the depressed condition some frightening and distressing film fragments were presented. The neutral group watched no film. Mood states were measured using the Profile of Mood States, and a Stroop task assessed selective attention. Both were presented by computer. The induction groups differed significantly in the expected direction on the mood subscales Anger, Tension, Depression, Vigour, and Fatigue, and also in the mean scale response times, i.e., slower responses for the depressed condition and faster for the elated one. Differences between conditions were found in the errors on the Stroop: in the depressed condition were the fewest errors and significantly longer error reaction times. Speed of error was associated with self-reported fatigue.

100 MMPI-2 protocols were obtained from the files of an outpatient clinic. Distributions of all possible split-half combinations were computed for selected Harris-Lingoes subscales with few items. As expected, max r reliability estimates were significantly greater than alpha estimates and distributions of correlations were negatively skewed. Inspection of the distributions suggested that the Amorality scale contains an ambiguous item which does not appear to belong in this grouping. Serious problems were noted with the Hy5 subscale. Alpha reliabilities were comparable to previously reported estimates, and max r reliability estimates closely resembled reported test-retest estimates.

80 adults (40 men and 40 women) aged 18 to 25 yr. and 80 boys aged 14 to 15 yr. observed a throwing action presented in point-light form at a frontoparallel viewpoint either as a video film or computer simulation of the actor. The display consisted of the relative motion of the wrist, elbow, and shoulder joints of the throwing arm. Subjects were asked to report what they observed. The action was recognised immediately by 68% of all subjects, and this value increased to 90% with one more viewing of the demonstration. Response was virtually the same for both types of display, and there were no differences between adults and children. The results were similar to those from other studies from which researchers have concluded that kinematic information alone is sufficient to permit perception of fundamental patterns of movement.

Dans le but de concevoir un implant personnalisé du genou, nous présentons une approche originale permettant la reconstruction d'images de précision en tomographie hélicoïdale. La méthodologie standard à base d'interpolation et de rétroprojection convoluée est remplacée par une approche pénalisée ; dans ce cadre, l'image tomographique 3D correspond au minimiseur d'un problème des moindres carrés pnalisés de très grande taille. Une régularisation pertinente du problème tomographique est en particulier permise par une pénalisation convexe : celle-ci permet de localiser précisment les interfaces dans le volume sans hypothéquer les aspects de coût d'implantation. Testée sur données synthtiques, cette démarche permet un gain significatif de précision sur l'image 3D obtenue. Le problème de reconstruction étant de très grande taille, l'implantation de cette méthode reste néanmoins délicate. Afin de garder la maîtrise du coût informatique, nous proposons d'adopter une invariance du modèle d'observation et de minimiser le critère des moindres carrés pénalisés par un algorithme de type successive over relaxation. Une seconde démarche basée sur une approximation du modèle d'observation a également été proposée : elle rend le problème séparable et permet d'aborder la reconstruction du volume en une succession de problèmes 2D d'une taille sensiblement réduite. Enfin, ces travaux ont donné lieu une étude approfondie des algorithmes semi quadratiques (SQ) dont l'emploi est répandu en traitement d'image ou de donnes. Ces algorithmes SQ ont été rattachs à des formes préexistantes, des conditions de convergence globale moins restrictives ont été obtenues et des variantes plus rapides ont été déduites.

The Company Siemens Industrial Turbo Machinery AB manufactures and launches in operation among other things gas turbines, steam turbines, compressors, turn-key power plants and carries out service for components for heat and power production. Siemens also performs research and development, marketing, sales and installations of turbines and completes power plants, service and refurbish.

Our thesis for the engineering degree is to develop an automatic status log which will be used as a tool to control how the status of the machine is before and after technical service at gas turbines. Operational disturbances will be registered in a structured way in order to get a good possibility to follow up the reliability of the application.

An automatic log function has been developed and will be activated at start, stop and shutdown of the turbine system. Log files are created automatically and get a name with the event type, the date and the time. The files contain data as timestamp, name, measured values and units of the signals which are going to be analyzed by the support engineers. They can evaluate the cause of the problem using the log files.

Dans un avion, un hélicoptère ou un lanceur actuel, des milliers de capteurs, pour la plupart non critiques sont utilisés pour la mesure de divers paramètres (températures, pressions, positions...) Les résultats sont ensuite acheminés par des fils vers les calculateurs de bord qui les traitent. Ceci implique la mise en place de centaines de kilomètres de câbles (500 km pour un avion de ligne) dont le volume est considérable. Il en résulte une grande complexité de conception et de fabrication, des problèmes de fiabilité, notamment au niveau des connexions, et une masse importante. Par ailleurs l'instrumentation de certaines zones est impossible car leur câblage est difficilement envisageable par manque d'espace. En outre, s'il est souvent intéressant d'installer de nouveaux capteurs pour faire évoluer un aéronef ancien, l'installation des câbles nécessaires implique un démantèlement partiel, problématique et coûteux, de l'appareil. Pour résoudre ces problèmes, une idée innovante a émergé chez les industriels de l'aéronautique : commencer à remplacer les réseaux filaires reliant les capteurs d'un aéronef et leur centre de décision par des réseaux sans fil. Les technologies de communication sans fil sont aujourd'hui largement utilisées dans les marchés de l'électronique de grande consommation. Elles commencent également à être déployées pour des applications industrielles comme l'automobile ou le relevé à distance de compteurs domestiques. Cependant, remplacer des câbles par des ondes représente un défi technologique considérable comme la propagation en milieu confiné, la sécurité, la sureté de fonctionnement, la fiabilité ou la compatibilité électromagnétique. Cette thèse est motivée d'une part par l'avancée non négligeable dans le milieu aérospatial que pourrait être l'établissement d'un réseau sans fil à bord d'aéronefs dans la résolution de problématique classiques comme l'allégement et l'instrumentation. Il en résulterait donc : * Une meilleure connaissance de l'environnement et de la santé de l'aéronef * Un gain sur le poids. * Un gain en flexibilité. * Un gain en malléabilité et en évolutivité. * Un gain sur la complexité. * Un gain sur la fiabilité D'autre part, étant donnée la complexité de la conception de ce réseau de capteur sans fil, il a été nécessaire d'appliquer une méthodologie évolutive et adaptée mais inspirée de l'ingénierie système. Il est envisageable, vu le nombre de sous-systèmes à considérer, que cette méthodologie soit réutilisable pour d'autre cas pratiques. Une étude aussi complète que possible a été réalisée autour de l'existant déjà établi sur le sujet. En effet, on peut en lisant ce mémoire de thèse avoir une idée assez précise de ce qui a été fait. Une liste a été dressée de toutes les technologies sans fil en indiquant leur état de maturité, leurs avantages et leurs inconvénients afin de préciser les choix possibles et les raisons de ces choix. Des projets de capteurs sans fil ont été réalisés, des technologies sans fil performantes et personnalisables ont été développées et arrivent à maturité dans des secteurs variés tels que la domotique, la santé, l'automobile ou même l'aéronautique. Cependant aucun capteur sans fil n'a été véritablement installé en milieu aérospatial car de nombreux verrous technologiques n'ont pas été levés. Fort des expériences passées, et de la maturité qu'ont prise certaines technologies, des conclusions ont été tirées des projets antérieurs afin de tendre vers des solutions plus viables. Une fois identifiés, les verrous technologiques ont été isolés. Une personnalisation de notre solution a été à envisager afin de remédier tant que faire se peut à ces points bloquants avec les moyens mis à disposition. La méthodologie appliquée nous a permis d'identifier un maximum de contraintes, besoins et exigences pour mieux focaliser les efforts d'innovation sur les plus importantes et choisir ainsi les technologies les plus indiquées.

The authors developed a quantitative approach using Smart-PLS version 3 to reveal the views of different experts based on their experiences in water-related adaptation to climate change in the Lake Victoria Basin (LVB) in Uganda. A sample size of 152 was computed from a population size of 245 across the districts of Buikwe, Jinja, Mukono, Kampala, and Wakiso. The chapter aimed to determine the relationship among the availability of legal, regulatory, and administrative frameworks, public water investment, price and demand management, information requirements, coordination structures, and analytical frameworks and how they influence the development of water resource management frameworks. The findings revealed that the availability of legal, regulatory, and administrative frameworks, public water investment, price and demand management, information requirements, and coordination structures had significant and positive effects on the development of water resource management frameworks. Public water investment had the highest path coefficient (β = 0.387 and p = 0.000), thus indicating that it has the greatest influence on the development of water resource management frameworks. The R2 value of the model was 0.714, which means that the five exogenous latent constructs collectively explained 71.4% of the variance in the development. The chapter suggests putting special emphasis on public water investment to achieve an effective development of water resource management frameworks. These findings can support the practitioners and decision makers engaged in water-related adaptation to climate change within the LVB and beyond.

All three programs will automatically download software, if available, when they need it to play a file, and each has plugins which are automatically installed for use by your web browser, so you can play multimedia content directly from a web page. Be aware that the three programs will battle for control over which program plays which files. Quicktime plays files ending in the suffix .mov, among others. RealOne (http://www.real.com/) is the latest version of RealPlayer, which plays its own proprietary streaming formats, as well as many of the standard formats. It comes in free and pay versions, although you may have to dig for the free version. RealOne plays files ending with the suffixes .rm and .ram, among others.

Analysis of multidimensional function properties is required for industrial applications. The solution of its problems is a challenge in economics, sociology, chemistry, biology, biochemistry, and other sciences. For example, the study of the potential energy surface (PES) of a free molecule is of fundamental importance in structural chemistry because it is necessary to determine the stable conformations of a molecule and the ways of interconversion between them. However, if the PES is a function of more than three rotational coordinates, the costs of its quantum-chemical calculation rapidly increases and the problem of its graphical visualization can be hardly solved for a large number of variables. This work describes how a specially developed multidimensional interpolation procedure can contribute to solve these problems. To visualize a five dimensional (5D) hypersurface, the authors applied a special coordinate system.

The uses of these tools and techniques are increasing in our daily lives to facilitate day to day work. The new trends in technology have focused on finding approaches towards improved learning techniques. Various tools are being used to integrate Information and Communication Technology in education. Tablet Personal Computers (PCs) are one of the new and innovative tools used in education for enhancing learning skills. This research has been conducted in five primary schools, where students of class nursery to class three were taught basic lessons using Tablet PC. In this research an application has been developed on android platform with easy to use interface, where the students were able to perform simple arithmetic calculations and learned alphabet of Sindhi and English languages in visual form. During the experiment, it was observed that with visual aids students understood lessons more clearly and easily.

In this chapter, several examples of NN fitting of databases obtained using either ab initio electronic structure methods or an empirical potential will be discussed. The objective of this presentation is not to provide a complete and comprehensive review of the field nor is it to acquaint the reader with the details of the reaction dynamics of the particular systems employed as examples. It is rather to provide a clear picture of the power and limitations of NN methods for the investigation of reaction dynamics. We begin with a brief overview of the literature in the field. Neural networks provide a powerful method to effect the fitting of an ensemble of potential energy points in a database. In 1993, Blank et al. employed an NN to fit data derived from an empirical potential model for CO chemisorbed on a Ni(111) surface. Two years later, these same investigators also examined the interaction potential of H2 on a Si(100)-2 × 1 surface using a data set comprising 750 energies computed using local density functional theory. To the best of our knowledge, these were the first two examples in which NNs were employed to provide the PES for a dynamics study. Hobday et al. have investigated the energies of C-H systems by using a Tersoff potential form in which the three-body term is replaced by an NN comprising five input nodes, one hidden layer with six nodes, and an output layer. In this work, the five input elements are computed by consideration of the bond type, i.e., C-C or C-H, the three-body bond angle θ, which is input to the NN in the form (1 + cos θ)2, the connectivity of the local environment, and the second neighbor information. The method was applied to carbon clusters and a wide variety of alkanes, alkenes, alkynes, aromatics, and radicals. Comparison of the atomization energies obtained using the NN potential surfaces with experimental values showed the errors for 12 alkanes, 13 alkenes, 4 alkynes, 7 aromatics, and 12 radicals to lie in the ranges zero to 0.3 eV (alkanes), 0.1 to 1.5 eV (alkenes), 0 to 0.5 eV (alkynes), zero to 1.0 eV (aromatics), and zero to 2.8 eV (radicals).

This paper presents a study of thermal management of tablet computers (tablet PCs) using phase change materials (PCMs) encapsulated in aluminized laminated film under continuous operation. The experimental setup consists of original tablet PC parts and a simplified dummy printed circuit board (PCB) with a thermal response similar to the original PCB. Two PCMs were used in the experiments, n-eicosane and PT-37 (a commercial PCM from PureTemp). These PCMs have similar melting temperatures (n-eicosane – 35.6 °C; PT-37 – 36.3 °C) but different latent heats of fusion (n-eicosane – 236 kJ/kg; PT-37 – 206 kJ/kg). Two encapsulations with different sizes (6″ × 2.6″, 7″ × 1.5″) but the same thickness (0.0792″ (2 mm)) were used in this study. The effects of inclination and power input level on the thermal behavior of the tablet were investigated. Experiments showed that PCM encapsulated in laminate film led to lower back cover temperature for constant heat flux applications. As much as a 20 °C temperature reduction of the back cover hotspot was achieved with encapsulated PCM. It was also observed that better thermal behavior was achieved both by the melting of PCMs and heat spreading through the laminate film. It was found that the rate of PCM melting is directly related to the power input. No significant effect on PCM melting and temperature history was observed in relation to the system inclination.

There is a vast body of theoretical research on lifted inference in probabilistic graphical models (PGMs). However, few demonstrations exist where lifting is applied in conjunction with top of the line applied algorithms. We pursue the applicability of lifted inference for computer vision (CV), with the insight that a globally optimal (MAP) labeling will likely have the same label for two symmetric pixels. The success of our approach lies in efficiently handling a distinct unary potential on every node (pixel), typical of CV applications. This allows us to lift the large class of algorithms that model a CV problem via PGM inference. We propose a generic template for coarse-to-fine (C2F) inference in CV, which progressively refines an initial coarsely lifted PGM for varying quality-time trade-offs. We demonstrate the performance of C2F inference by developing lifted versions of two near state-of-the-art CV algorithms for stereo vision and interactive image segmentation. We find that, against flat algorithms, the lifted versions have a much superior anytime performance, without any loss in final solution quality.

Industries are continuously trying to improve the time to market through automation and optimization of existing product development processes. Large companies vow to save significant time and resources through seamless communication of data between design, manufacturing, supply chain and quality assurance teams. In this context, Model Based Definition/Engineering (MBD) / (MBE) has gained popularity, particularly in its effort to replace traditional engineering drawings and documentations with a unified digital product model in a multi-disciplinary environment. Widely used 3D data exchange models (STEP AP 203, 214) contains mere shape information, which does not provide much value for reuse in downstream manufacturing applications. However, the latest STEP AP 242 (ISO 10303-242) “Managed model based 3D engineering” aims to support smart manufacturing by capturing semantic Product Manufacturing Information (PMI) within the 3D model and also helping with long-term archival. As a primary, for interoperability of Geometric Dimensions & Tolerances (GD&T) through AP 242, CAx Implementor Forum has published a set of recommended practices for the implementation of a translator. In line with these recommendations, this paper discusses the implementation of an AP 203 to AP 242 translator by attaching semantic GD&T available in an in-house Constraint Tolerance Graph (CTF) file. Further, semantic GD&T data can be automatically consumed by downstream applications such as Computer Aided Process Planning (CAPP), Computer Aided Inspection (CAI), Computer Aided Tolerance Systems (CATS) and Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMM). Also, this paper will briefly touch base on the important elements that will constitute a comprehensive product data model for model-based interoperability.

This paper describes experimental results for transmission quality based on antenna direction, packaging materials, and interactions with the local environment. Many mobile devices depend heavily on wireless communications for their operation, making antenna efficiency very important for their successful operation. The Personal Server (PS) research platform enables the user to carry with them their palm-size personal computer anywhere they go. By simply approaching another computer, a kiosk, or other computing interface, all of the user’s data is accessible by wireless connection and transferred to the receiving device. The prototype acts like a mobile server that the consumer can take with and depending on the situation can interact with through any available computing device such as laptops, PCs, tablets, etc. Since the PS uses RF transmission to send files and images to the interfacing computers, maintaining reliable and robust signal strength is important for the device. An experimental approach was used to better understand the factors which may degrade or augment signal strength. The approach taken in this investigation quantifies the effects of human and electronic-mechanical factors on the transmission strength of the PS and help guide decisions on design changes that would favor an improved quality of signal. The investigation looked at two specific areas that could potentially influence signal performance: i) human interaction and usage ii) electronic-mechanical design factors. The first part of the investigation looked at how the device performed in the presence of a human body, specifically the way it was positioned with respect to the user as well as the position of the human body with respect to the receiving antenna. In addition, the signal strength was observed when the PS was in the presence of other objects commonly carried along the human body. The remaining part of the experiment concerned itself with the given design of the device, specifically the PCB components and plastic casing. Factors from both the electronic and mechanical domains, such as battery placement, paint presence on housing, and geometry of casing, were varied simultaneously using a Design of Experiment (DOE) approach.

The usage of Direct Metal Deposition (DMD) technology for repairing defective voids in high-value metallic components is time consuming, since traditional geometric reconstruction methods are not seamlessly connected to the DMD process. Here, we consider the development of a semi-automated geometric algorithm for “virtually” repairing defective voids that appear on gas turbine airfoils after extensive use. Our method produces an accurately reconstructed geometric model that can be used for generating DMD scanning paths, while ensuring both dimensional accuracy and topological consistency required by the airfoil design. This model is constructed by using the Sectional Gauss Map concept to generate a series of Prominent Cross Sections (PCS) along the longitudinal axis of a digitally acquired defective airfoil. The intrinsic geometry of the PCS lying in the non-defective region is then extrapolated across the defective region to fill in the voids. A boolean difference between the original defective model and the final reconstructed model yields a fully parameterized geometric representation of the repair volume. The test results of this method demonstrate the algorithm’s robustness and versatility over a wide range of airfoil defects.
