Resumen
For centuries, biographies have invariably been an essential part of historiography. Every epoch, sometimes even every generation, has written its own ‘lives of famous men’, less frequently ‘women’. Among the numerous biographies, a prominent place is held by those relating to the Middle Ages. Among these, the lives of rulers come to the fore, where the ruler (prince, king, emperor) was among the key models. As for the title of this text, the first part of which is selfexplanatory, its subject includes broadly defined historical biographies concerning Polish rulers of the Piast dynasty. The su

Among the first Orthodox hierarchs who bestowed the greatest benefit on the defense of the Ukrainian Church before the oppression of its Polish authorities (which further believed that the Orthodox Ukrainians and Belarusians were "bound by the Florentine Union") was Metropolitan of Kiev and Galicia, Joseph II Soltan 62 (1507-1522) . The formation and realisation of the territorial claims posed by the kings of Hungary had a nonlinear character. The role that was played in this process by the foreign policy of King Sigismund (1387—1437) is discussed in the paper. The royal title these claims were expressed with is “the king of Hungary, Dalmatia, Croatia, Bosnia, Galicia, Lodomeria, Cumania and Bulgaria”. This title had been composed already during the reign of the local Árpád dynasty in the 13th century. With its tradition of elected kings and rebellious nobility, Poland-Lithuania has acquired a certain amount of fame that extends beyond its own region. To anybody who has heard of the Polish-Lithuanian political system, it would probably come as no surprise that the Commonwealth’s laws included the right to disobey a king who broke the promises he had made at his election. This version of the right of resistance was introduced in Poland-Lithuania’s laws in 1573, and, with very few modifications, it was confirmed by all of Poland-Lithuania’s subsequent monarchs and remained valid until the late

The construction of the gothic cathedral church in Włocławek on the new site by the local bishops, after the former one was burned down by the knights of the Teutonic Order in 1329, coincides with a time of political consolidation of the Kingdom of Poland and a significant reinforcement of the power of Polish kings. For that frontier bishopric, situated in the northern part of the country, it was also a period of stabilization and strengthening of diocesan structures. This is discussed in parallel with the question of the origins of the monarchy itself and that of relations between the two institutions. Chapter 1 discusses the European origins of the monarchy which derived from two distinct dynastic traditions, the House of Ardennes-Verdun whose power had declined in the later eleventh century and was extinguished on the eve of the crusade, and the House of Boulogne which was in an ascendant. This thesis is a full political biography of Alice Perrers, the mistress of Edward III from the early 1360s until his death in June 1377 and mother to three of his children. It argues on the basis of the progression of her career that after the death of Edward's queen consort Philippa of Hainault in August 1369 Alice was able to extend the scope of her power and influence to the point that she became a ‘quasi' or ‘uncrowned' queen and, consequently, that her contribution to the political crisis of the 1370s can only be fully understood in terms of queenship. This dissertation aims to focus on the way in which Marc Antony has been portrayed in Antiquity by a careful and critical study of what the ancient (mainly literary) sources have to reveal about this historical personage. A number of primary sources present a very negative view of Antony under the influence of various political persuasions, and this will be compared and contrasted with later ancient views. The study will pursue this under key themes such as the personality of Antony, his military and political career as well as the role that he played in the East. Modern scholarly interpretati

Much of this responded to political changes, both attempts by Welsh rulers to expand and consolidate their power, and foreign conquest and settlement that led to the creation of marcher lordships and to attempts by kings of England to assert their overlordship over Wales which culminated in the Edwardian conquest. Instead, he is known as the author of the earliest extant law collection, and as the man who commissioned the first ziggurats (stepped temple towers). The fifteenth to early sixteenth centuries have been remembered as the “golden age” of Lanna. Royal support for Buddhism expanded on an unprecedented scale. Buddha statues such as the Emerald, Sihing, Sikhi, Sandalwood and Setangkhamani became famous at this time. Monastic chronicles were written narrating the ‘biography’ of each of these ‘travelling images,’ which journeyed around Asia over many hundreds of years. These chronicles, not without humor and entertainment, drew lineages of revered persons, mainly kings, who honored each statue through time. Lanna’s kings were positioned as the hei
