Resumen

Risk management is used more and more in building industry projects. An essential element of the risk management process is the analysis and evaluation of risks. Therefore, project assessment with the help of the post‐mortem analysis plays an important role. The post‐mortem analysis is a tool frequently used in software projects today for the reduction of risks. The clearness of the goal of improvement measures is sharpened by the examination of the project steps in connection with the success factors of the organization. The results of a post‐mortem analysis deliver detailed information on where improvement measurements are necessary in the project future. Growth in project management know‐how is created through the discussion of the participants of all hierarchy levels. Therefore, the post‐mortem analysis is also applicable for use in the construction project. The procedure is introduced in the work at hand.

Abstract Historically, research involving the pH decline of pork has been conducted under university conditions with the use of electrical stunning and conventional chilling (minimum temperature > -10). Most large commercial slaughter plants in the U.S. currently use CO2 stunning and many have some form of accelerated chilling of the carcass. With ante-mortem stress level of the pig and post-mortem carcass temperature decline being 2 of the major factors affecting post-mortem pH decline rate, it should be expected that the pH decline rate may be different in current commercial conditions when compared with the literature. Our work has focused on developing methods to measure pH and temperature decline in short intervals (5 min, 15 min, 30 min, or 1 h) and determine the critical time periods to manage the chilling process in order to slow pH decline and obtain higher ultimate pH levels (20h). This research indicates the potential to alter the carcass chill curve to make precision adjustments in the quality of pork.

The main aim of this study was to investigate the post-mortem proteolytic degradation process of selected tissue antigens and correlate it to the post-mortem interval. During the autopsy of 12 cadavers (time interval ranging 1 day–2 years after death) samples of skin, liver, kidney, and spleen were collected. All samples were formalin-fixed and paraffin-embedded. Four µm paraffin sections were used for hematoxylin–eosin staining and immunohistochemical analysis (Ki67, Vimentin, Pan cytokeratin, and CD20). Data reported here show that immunohistochemical reactivity preservation was related to the characteristics of the tissues. In particular, the most resistant tissue was the skin, where the autolysis phenomena were not appreciable before 5 days. On the contrary, the liver and the spleen underwent early autolysis, while the kidney displayed an early autolysis of the tubules and a late one of the glomeruli. As concerns specific antigens, immunoreactivity was lost earliest for nuclear antigens as compared to cytoplasmic ones. In conclusion, our results demonstrate that immunohistochemical detection of specific antigens may be useful in estimating the post-mortem interval, especially when we need to know whether the post-mortem interval is a few days or more than 7–10 days.

Tenderness, together with flavour, is the main quality trait that defines consumer acceptance of sheep meat. The factors affecting tenderness can be grouped as those influenced before slaughter, in the early post-mortem intervention and, finally, during the aging period. These factors have been extensively studied with respect to tenderness, but the impact of early post-mortem interventions and subsequent aging on the microbial quality of the final products has not been broadly reviewed to date. In this review, the authors summarize the most recent knowledge on lamb meat tenderness management and how such practices may impact the final meat quality, especially its microbial status. The impacts of pre-slaughter factors (age, sex, diet, genotype and transport) and post-mortem interventions (chilling regime, electrical stimulation, or hanging method), are described and comprehensively discussed.

Context: Retroperitoneal location of kidney implies much difficulties in management of renal diseases, specially for surgeons. Appropriate knowledge on three dimensional morphological status of kidney may be helpful for successful surgery of this region. So this study was performed to evaluate the age related changes in length, breadth and thickness of kidney collected from Bangladesh. Materials and methods: A cross sectional analytical type of study was conducted at the department of Anatomy, Mymensingh Medical College, Mymensingh, Bangladesh. A total of 70 (seventy) fresh human of right & left kidneys of both sexes were collected from the morgue of Mymensingh Medical College. The selected cases were between 5 to 60 years of age. The samples were divided into 3 different age groups (A: 05-15 years, B: 16-35 years, C: 36- 60 years) to observe the variations in length, breadth and thickness of kidney. Results: Statistically significant differences were found in the values of length, breadth and thickness among these groups except the difference of values regarding breadth and thickness between group C & A which were not significant (P > 0.05). The aim of this study was to investigate the persistence of SARS-CoV-2 in post-mortem swabs of subjects who died from SARS-CoV-2 infection. The presence of the virus was evaluated post-mortem from airways of 27 SARS-CoV-2 positive patients at three different time points (T1 2 h; T2 12 h; T3 24 h) by real-time PCR. Detection of antibodies to SARS-CoV-2 was performed by Maglumi 2019-nCoV IgM/IgG chemiluminescence assay. SARS-CoV-2 viral RNA was still detectable in 70.3% of cases within 2 h after death and in 66,6% of cases up to 24 h after death. Our data showed an increase of the viral load in 78,6% of positive individuals 24 h post-mortem (T3) in comparison to that evaluated 2 h after death (T1). Noteworthy, we detected a positive T3 post-mortem swab (24 h after death) from 4 subjects who were negative at T1 (2 h after death). The results of our study may have an important value in the management of deceased subjects not only with a suspected or confirmed diagnosis of SARS-CoV-2, but also for unspecified causes and in the absence of clinical documentation or medical assistance.

IntroductionRecent studies have highlighted the accumulated use of anticholinergic drugs is associated with an increased risk of dementia, and many of those are used for symptomatic management in Parkinson’s disease (PD). Unfortunately, the only available post-mortem study investigating the effect of anticholinergic agents on Alzheimer’s pathology burden suffers from several methodological limitations. Therefore, we aimed to validate if cumulative use of anticholinergic medication will increase Alzheimer’s pathologies in the post-mortem PD brains.Material and methodsRetrospective case note analysis was carried out on 54 selected PD cases from the Parkinson’s UK Brain Bank and cases were stratified into no, low and high anticholinergic burden using literature-based anticholinergic scores. Association of anticholinergic burden and Alzheimer’s pathology in post-mortem tissues was analysed with logistic regression modelling.ResultsA higher anticholinergic burden is associated with a greater tau burden in entorhinal cortex in PD cases (OR=2.21). Interestingly, a high anticholinergic burden decreases the odds of amyloid-beta presence in the anterior hippocampus (OR=0.127), entorhinal cortex (OR=0.124) and frontal cortex (OR=0.113) of PD cases.ConclusionWe have demonstrated that anticholinergic drugs have varying effect on Alzheimer’s pathology in post-mortem PD brain tissues. Complex mechanism is probably involved and require further studies.

Objective 1) Better recognize pathophysiology of postoperative tonsillectomy hemorrhage. 2) Be able to better differentiate the different types of post-tonsillectomy hemorrhage based upon understanding the vascular physiology and adjust management accordingly. Methods Post-tonsillectomy complications in children and adults were reviewed. 7 cases of hemorrhage, including 5 deaths, were carefully reviewed. Patients ranged between 2–40 years of age. This represents the largest series of post-tonsillectomy deaths reported to date. All postoperative deaths were due to bleeding and cardiopulmonary arrest. Post-mortem analysis was undertaken on those patients. CT angiography was reviewed in one surviving patient and the utility of this type of scanning is discussed. Results Post-tonsillectomy bleeding is one of the most worrisome otolaryngology concerns. Patients with bleeding on postoperative days 2–3 reported episodic bleeding stopping spontaneously. In these patients, the episode of unobserved bleeding signaled a vascular spasm with a likehood of recurrence. When the bleeding recurred it was massive and occured in a uncontrolled setting, leading to a poor outcome. Vascular trauma and spasm is likely. Conclusions Postoperative tonsillectomy bleeding is better managed by differentiating those patients with early stage bleeding on postoperative days 2–3. Direct examination of the operative field is imperative. Ancillary testing including CT angiograpy is helpful in the evaluation.

A three-month-old male Shih Tzu pup was presented to the University Veterinary Hospital, Kokkalai with the complaint of dome–shaped head, ataxia, abnormal behaviour and vocalisation. On physical examination and diagnostic imaging, it was confirmed as a case of hydrocephalus. A 5FG infant feeding tube was used to shunt the cerebrospinal fluid from the subarachnoid space into the peritoneal cavity. It was managed on post-operative antibiotics, analgesics, antiseizure medication and supplements. Upon worsening of clinical symptoms, the pup was euthanised three months later and subjected to detailed post-mortem and histopathological studies. Resumen

Over the last 50 years, the number of clinical autopsies has decreased, but their role in assessing cause of death and clinical performance is still acknowledged. Few publications have studied their role in malpractice claim prevention. The paper aims to highlight the role of clinical autopsy in preventing errors and improve healthcare quality. A retrospective study was conducted on 28 clinical autopsies performed between 2015 and 2021 on patients dead unexpectedly after procedures for the diagnosis and treatment of digestive and hepatic diseases. After an accurate analysis of medical records and consultation with healthcare professionals, all cases were subjected to autopsy and histopathology. The data obtained were analyzed and shared with the risk-management team to identify pitfalls and preventive strategies. Post-mortem evaluations confirmed the clinical diagnosis only in six cases (21.4%). Discordances were observed in 10 cases (35.7%). In the remaining 12 cases (42.9%) the clinical diagnosis was labeled as “unknown” and post-mortem examinations made it possible to document the cause of death. Post-mortem examinations can concretely enrich hospital prevention systems and improve patient safety. The methodological approach outlined certainly demonstrates that, even in the risk-management field, “mors gaudet succurrere vitae” (“death delights in helping life”).

Survey research is used to determine what kind of post-mortem appraisals companies undertake concerning their abandoned IS development projects. The data suggest that most organizations do not keep records of their failed projects and do not make any formal effort to understand what went wrong or attempt to learn from their failed projects. A learning paradigm is suggested which companies could use as a guide to undertake post-mortem analysis of their abandoned IS development projects.

Resumen

The concepts of emotional labour and emotion management have been extensively explored across a range of health and social care occupations. Less is known about emotionality in ‘hidden’ and ‘taboo’ realms of health work. Drawing on data from an ethnographic study on fetal and neonatal post-mortem, we explore the ways in which professionals across occupation and status positions both articulate and manage their emotions. Post-mortem involves a range of practices which take place around the edges of life and death, medicine and hospital space. Although often concealed from members of the public (and from some professionals), such practices tend to be highly valued by professionals and parents. Our analysis moves beyond the current sociological focus on occupation, illuminating instead how emotional work is performed across multi-disciplinary teams in this secret context. In doing so we seek to contribute to the conceptual and empirical development of the sociology of emotion work.

The idea of personal death causes a sense of uncertainty and threat against our ontological security. Terror management theory proposes that, when confronted with existential anxiety, we tend to seek safety through explicit (post-mortem expectations) and implicit/symbolic immortality (cultural worldviews). This study aims to explore the role of existential parameters in the Greek host community acculturation expectations towards immigrants from Albania and Pakistan. Participants were 208 Greek university students. Exposure to mortality salience was introduced in the experimental group by administering the Mortality Attitudes Personality Survey, while participants of the control group responded to a questionnaire about TV watching. Measures for both groups included the Host Community Acculturation Scale and the Connection of the Soul Scale. It was found that host community acculturation expectations were not affected by experimental exposure to mortality salience but they were related to post-mortem expectations. Specifically, post-mortem expectations for connection with God were associated with acculturation expectations for individualism (positively), segregation and marginalization (negatively) of immigrants from Albania, while post-mortem expectations for connection with the universe were linked to expectations for integration of this immigrant group. With regards to immigrants from Pakistan, segregation was positively related to the connection with God. The findings suggest that host community acculturation expectations of Greeks are related to existential anxiety as a trait rather than as a state.

Despite safety recommendations for the management of corpses with COVID-19 infection and the high number of deaths worldwide, the post-mortem investigation rate is extremely low as well as the scientific contributions describing the pathological features. The first results of post-mortem investigations provided interesting findings and contributed to promoting unexplored therapeutic approaches and new frontiers of research. A systematic review is provided with the aim of summarizing all autopsy studies up to February 2020 in which a complete post-mortem investigation in patients with COVID-19 disease was performed, focusing on histopathological features. We included case reports, case series, retrospective and prospective studies, letters to the editor, and reviews. A total of 28 studies fulfilled the inclusion criteria, producing a pooled dataset of 407 full autopsies. Analyzing the medical history data, only 12 subjects had died without any comorbidities (for 15 cases the data were not available). The post-mortem investigation highlighted that acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) and multiple organ failure represent the main clinical features of COVID-19 disease, often leading to pulmonary thromboembolism and superimposed bronchopneumonia. The discussed data showed a strict relationship among the inflammatory processes, diffuse alveolar, and endothelial damage. In light of these results, the full autopsy can be considered as the gold standard to investigate unknown infections or pathogens resulting in death.

Resumen

Goal. Find out the opinion of the Kazakh population about post-mortem organ donation to save the lives of patients with terminal diseases of organs in need of transplantation. Material and methods. The survey was conducted in the form of an anonymous online questionnaire. Our study involved 1176 people, of these, 309 are male and 867 are female. The survey participants were citizens of different regions of the country and different nationalities, the average age of the participants was 38.7±1 years (18-73 years). Results and discussion. 422 participants (36%) agreed to become a posthumous donor, and 644 (55%) refused to donate. 88 (7.6%) of the participants doubted their choice, the other 22 participants did not answer this question. During the survey, out of 1,176 respondents, 991 (84%) participants know that organ transplantation is being carried out in the country, of which 384 (38.7%) participants agree to post-mortem donation, and 607 (61.2%) participants refuse post-mortem donation. 185 (16%) participants are not informed that organ transplantation is being performed in the country, of which 49 (26.5%) participants agree to post-mortem donation, and 136 (73.5%) participants refuse post-mortem donation. As a result, it was found that informed participants agreed to post-mortem donation in 38.7% of cases, and uninformed participants agreed in only 26.5% of cases. Conclusion. For the development of organ transplantation from a cadaveric donor in Kazakhstan, it is necessary to inform the population about organ transplants carried out in large transplant centers of the country, and with good long-term results, to inform the population about the laws of the Republic of Kazakhstan on organ transplantation. It is very important for the population to guarantee security and huge support from the government of the country. In addition, for the development of organ transplantation from a posthumous donor in Kazakhstan, a lot depends not only on the population of the country itself, but also on social, moral, ethical, economic, and humanitarian support from the state government. Organ transplantation from a post-mortem donor is one of the most complex types of medical care, requiring a high level of professional and material support and coordinated actions at all levels of management. This area cannot develop without the support of society, the government, as well as without a positive view of the population. The combined effect of farm management practices, transport time, and ageing time on the electrophoretic changes of sarcoplasmic (SPP) and myofibrillar (MFP) protein fractions of goat kids was studied. A total of 64 suckling goat kids were withdrawn from two farms with “high” (GW) and “low” (DW) welfare-friendly management practices, and they were transported for 2 or 6 h immediately before slaughtering. Longissimus lumborum samples were obtained at 3, 8, and 21 days post-mortem, and muscle proteins were separated by sodium dodecyl sulfate polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis SDS-PAGE. Both protein extracts displayed significant changes attributable to meat maturation. Managing conditions of kids in DW farms increased the post-mortem susceptibility of muscle proteins. Some MFP of Longissimus lumborum muscle, such as troponin T, as well as 26–30 and 35–37 kDa fractions were influenced significantly by deficient on-farm management, and therefore, these protein fragments might be considered as indicators of low-welfare on-farm management in goat kids.

Background: Forensic odontology has a advance role in identifying a deceased person using dental records. Because of the growing trend of litigation around the world, precise recording of clinical dental operations has become increasingly necessary. Objective: To see the endodontic obturation radiographs have a hidden function in identification. Study Design: Cross-sectional study. Place and Duration of Study: Dental OPD, Central Park, Lahore and Private Clinics of Lahore from 1st March 2022 to 31st August 2022. Methods: From the digital X-ray system's data bank, 30 periapical radiographs of patients who had endodontic treatment of the mandibular left (first molars with three canals) were randomly selected. The ante-mortem data "Set 1" consisted of post-operative radiographs. From the thirty radiographs, ten were reprinted, labelled (A-J), and deemed post-mortem data "Set 2."This "Set 2" post-mortem group of 10 radiographs would be compared to the "Set 1" ante-mortem group of 30 radiographs. Ten dentally educated persons would examine these two sets of radiographs. Each examiner was given thirty radiographs from "Set 1" and ten radiographs from "Set 2," with the task of matching the individual post-mortem radiographs ("Set 2") with the ante-mortem radiographs ("Set 1"). Results: Thirty four examiners had a 100% success rate, 4 examiners had a 97.5% success rate (1 mismatch), and 2 examiners had a 95% success rate (2 mismatches). Conclusion: On the off chance that after death radiographs are precise duplicates of endodontic obturated radiographs, the obturation's novel shape can be taken advantage of for forensic ID. The Coronavirus Disease 19 (COVID-19) pandemic has caused an unexpected death toll worldwide. Even though several guidelines for the management of infectious corpses have been proposed, the limited number of post-mortem analyses during the pandemic has led to inaccuracies in the counting of COVID-19 deaths and contributed to a lack of important information about the pathophysiology of the SARS-CoV-2 infection. Due to the impossibility of carrying out autopsies on all corpses, the scientific community has raised the question of whether confirmatory analyses could be performed on exhumed bodies after a long period of burial to assess the presence of SARS-CoV-2 RNA. Post-mortem lung samples were collected from 16 patients who died from COVID-19 infection and were buried for a long period of time. A custom RNA extraction protocol was developed to enhance extraction of viral RNA from degraded samples and highly sensitive molecular methods, including RT-qPCR and droplet digital PCR (ddPCR), were used to detect the presence of SARS-CoV-2 RNA. The custom extraction protocol developed allowed us to extract total RNA effectively from all lung samples collected. SARS-CoV-2 viral RNA was effectively detected in all samples by both RT-qPCR and ddPCR, regardless of the length of burial. ddPCR results confirmed the persistence of the virus in this anatomical niche and revealed high viral loads in some lung samples, suggesting active infection at the time of death. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first study to demonstrate the persistence of SARS-CoV-2 viral RNA in the lung even after a long post-mortem interval (up to 78 days). The extraction protocol herein described, and the highly sensitive molecular analyses performed, could represent the standard procedures for SARS-CoV-2 detection in degraded lung specimens. Finally, the innovative results obtained encourage post-mortem confirmatory analyses even after a long post-mortem interval.

This is a post-mortem on Malaysian TeSME (Teaching of Science and Mathematics in English) program based on its comparison with Canadian immersion programs. Malaysia and Canada have some common sociological aspects such as the size of population, the ratio of indigenous people and immigrants, and multilingual contexts. It also has in common various core elements in the set of criteria proposed by Swain and Johnson (1997) to define a prototypical immersion program. Thus, the lessons Canadians have learned from immersion may be seen as significant guiding light for TeSME and other attempts of content-based instruction programs. Canadian immersion has been different from TeSME at least in terms of three core features: overt support exists for the L1; the teachers are bilingual; and the classroom culture is that of the local L1 community. These differences made four issues more prominent: Learning outcome of TeSME; mainstay of TeSME; judicious use of L1; and function of TeSME. Finally some suggestions are proposed: give higher priority to promoting concept development across languages for now; make English classes more effective; promote bilingualism in TeSME; and extend TeSME’s function to understanding and integrating other cultures and languages.

The nitrate and nitrite toxicity among the ruminant is the most important field level problem. Nitrate level in feed and water is generally considered an undesirable compound induces methemoglobinaemia and causes sudden death. In an organized farm of Tamil Nadu, 5 cattle and 3 sheep and 5 goats died suddenly with the symptoms of gasping, difficult rapid breath, general weakness, trembling, hypersalivation, staggering gait, vomiting and diarrhoea. The clinical examination of affected animal revealed cyanotic appearance of eye, tongue, blue / chocolate coloured mucous membranes. The post mortem examination of affected animals revealed that bluish stripping of the rumen wall and intestinal linings, dark brown blood and pin-point haemorrhages in the all-visceral organs, congestion, haemorrhages and inflammation of heart, liver, spleen, kidney organs and brownish red discolouration of blood with poor clotting mechanism. The post mortem samples along with feed and water were collected from affected farms and submitted to toxicological laboratory for analysis of various toxicity. The toxicology analysis revealed that the level of nitrite and nitrate toxicity in feed (1300mg / kg), water (150mg/lit) rumen content and visceral organs shows at the level of (300mg / g), the samples were negative for organochlorine pesticide, organ phosphorous and organocarbomate pesticides. Proper feeding management and administration of methylene blue at the rate of 1-4 % intravenously with 5 % dextrose or 1 gram of methylene blue /100kg of body weight with repeated dose of 20-30 min will effectively control the nitrate toxicity in affected animals.

The monitoring of stranded marine mammals represents a strategic method to assess their health, conservation status, and ecological role in the marine ecosystem. Networks worldwide track stranding events for the passive monitoring of mortality patterns, emerging and reemerging pathogens, climate change, and environmental degradation from a One Health perspective. This study summarizes pathogen prevalence data from the Italian Stranding Network (ISN) derived from post-mortem investigations on cetaceans found dead stranded along the Italian coastline between 2015 and 2020. The decomposition of the carcasses and logistics limited the post-mortem examination to 585 individuals, out of 1236 single-stranding reports. The most relevant pathogens identified were Cetacean Morbillivirus, Herpesvirus, Brucella spp., and Toxoplasma gondii, whose roles as environmental stressors are well known, despite their real impact still needing to be investigated in depth. Statistical analysis showed that age and sex seem to be positively related to the presence of pathogens. This study represents the first step in harmonizing post-mortem investigations, which is crucial for evidence-based conservation efforts. Implementing diagnostic and forensic frameworks could offer an indirect insight into the systematic monitoring of diseases to improve the identification of regional and temporal hotspots in which to target specific mitigation, management, and conservation strategies.

Pipeline integrity management requires corrosion growth rate calculations that must be derived from consecutive external corrosion direct and inline inspections. This conventional approach is based on indirect measurements (structure-to-electrolyte potentials) and post-mortem (excavations, feature mapping) assessments limiting an operator’s capabilities for proactive maintenance in a most cost-effective and timely manner. With the increasing amount of high-voltage power line corridors, pipeline crossings, and transit systems, interference threats on pipeline assets are more common. This results in a higher risk of accelerated corrosion with poor notification to the pipeline operator, as third-party operational conditions may unexpectedly change.

Uterine arterio-venous malformation is one of the differentials of dysfunctional uterine bleeding that can result in life-threatening emergency with sudden, unexpected massive vaginal bleeding. We describe a case of 20-year old female, who presented with sudden heavy vaginal bleeding and was diagnosed with uterine arterio-venous malformation on post-mortem examination. High index of suspicion is required to make a timely diagnosis for appropriate management and to avoid maternal morbidity and mortality. Resumen

Identification of the victims is considered as one of the most important initial steps in the management of a mass disaster. Comparison of ante-mortem and post-mortem fingerprints (ridgeology), dental data and DNA profiles have been recognized as primary identification methods for Disaster Victim Identification (DVI). However, facial recognition and personal belongings are the widely used tools of identification in large disasters. A series of bombings hit Sri Lanka on the morning of 21 st of April 2019. In the city of Colombo around 131 people died. Most of the identifications were achieved through visual recognition, with a minor percentage by odontology, genetics and fingerprints. The procedure adopted in the response to the disaster is described in this paper highlighting the importance of advanced preparedness, inter-institutional cooperation, the empathetic approach in caring for the grieving families and the procedure to adopt in visual recognition in DVI.

Abstract This article analyzes the concept and legal nature of social media accounts to explore whether these can become the object of fiduciary management. It examines the essence of a social media account and reveals the possibility of equating it to a kind of property. The article focuses on the possibility of inheriting a social media account. This takes into account approaches in various countries to the problem of determination of the post-mortem fate of digital assets, which shows a unified tendency to consider social media accounts as part of the estate transferred to the heir.
