Providing of sustainability is one of the main priorities in normative documents in various countries. Factors affecting regional competitiveness is seen as close to them determining sustainability in many researches. The aim of this research was to identify and evaluate main factors of competitiveness for statistical regions of Latvia to promote sustainable development of the country, applying the complex regional competitiveness assessment system developed by the author. The analysis of the Regional Competitiveness Index (RCI) and its sub-indexes showed that each statistical region has both: factors promoting and hindering competitiveness. Overall the most competitive is Riga statistical region, but the last place takes Latgale statistical region. It is possible to promote equal regional development and sustainability of Latvia by implementing well-developed regional development strategy and National Action Plan. To develop such strategies, it is necessary to understand the concept of sustainable competitiveness. To evaluate sustainable competitiveness of Latvia and its regions it is necessary to develop further the methodology of regional competitiveness evaluation.

Purpose: To identify the main drivers that facilitate the successful deployment of a participation program aimed at improving competitiveness, as a prior step to analyze and discuss the implementation of these drivers in three services companies.Design/methodology/approach: The selection of the drivers was based on a “content analysis” of recent literature (2007-2017). To test the level of deployment of these drivers, the “case study” technique was choosen. The authors have selected two public transport companies and one bank, which have more than twenty years´ experience in the development of participation programs.Findings: From the case studies analysis, we conclude that participation can successfully improve a company’s competitiveness, provided that the drivers are developed with this specific aim. Thus, the analysis of these drivers allows to identify some gaps in aspects such as, the extension of participation throughout the company, the methodology adopted in the deployment of participation programs, the organizational structure for monitoring the program tasks, the reward/recognition systems and, especially, the implementation of KPIs for connecting participation and competitiveness.Research limitations/implications: This paper is based on a review of current literature, the analysis of three case studies, and our own personal experience. Our observations and comments may be qualified by future investigation with an increased sample of companies.Practical implications: This paper could be of interest to companies due to outlines the drivers that are critical to implementing participation programs focused on competitiveness. This could help companies that are thinking of implementing such programs, or those that are unhappy with their current programs, to re-design their plans in line with their business strategy. Originality/value: The main contribution of this paper lies in its theoretical and applied approach, analyzing in a comparative and longitudinal way the deployment of the drivers in services companies. This analysis allows the identification of strengths and weaknesses in the implementation of these participation programs focused on competitiveness.This combined and comparative approach is considered especially novel in the academic and professional world. Likewise, the analysis of companies with a longstanding history in their participation programs is also relevant, particularly, in the services sector.

An important component of strengthening the competitive position of enterprises is to increase the level of greening of all economic processes. The purpose of the article is to systematize the prerequisites for the formation of environmentally friendly competitive principles. The author identifies the main transformation processes that will contribute to the formation of environmentally oriented competitiveness: development and implementation of green energy, production and promotion of green goods and services, implementation of green processes in business operations. The author substantiates that companies, that contribute to the greening of competitive advantages receive long-term benefits in the form of green brand formation, growth of the company's market capitalization. The article identifies the factors of intensification of green initiatives of enterprises, which are related to the introduction of green energy, environmental innovations, promotion of green consumption, increasing regulatory pressure on enterprises, strengthening competitive differentiation, etc. The author explored the experience of implementing environmental standards as drivers of intensifying the processes of greening competitive strategies. The article identifies and describes the basic components of the system of promoting ecologically oriented competitive advantages of enterprises in the market environment, which are determined by mechanisms for overcoming obstacles to promoting ecologically oriented activities, formation of strategic priorities, long-term transformation processes. The necessity of improvement of methodical approaches on an estimation of a level of greening of competitive advantages of the enterprise is proved. Management decisions about the necessary costs for energy saving / conservation of resources and the introduction of ecological production cause changes in economic indicators of production (cost, efficiency, product quality).Finding a compromise between economic indicators and environmental benefits of clean production will ensure the formation of green competitive advantages of the enterprise.

Since Latvia is member of the European Union, the importance of our society’s competitiveness and each its member's competitiveness is becoming even more important as the society of Latvia and each individual lives in a social space and the space of the global economy. Latvia must ensure the development of a knowledge based, democratic and socially integrated society. The development of competitiveness of Latvian society and the national economy must be ensured. It has been already acknowledged that an effective means for promoting competitiveness is lifelong and lifewide education, therefore enterprises and other various institutions are becoming learning organizations that promote the professional development and competitiveness of their staff in the context of knowledge society in general. The competitiveness of an enterprise to a great extent is dependent on the support and promotion system of the staff competitiveness. The aim of the article is to make public the results of theoretical research, describing the worked out Model of Support and Promotion System for Development of the Staff Competitiveness in Modern Enterprise as Learning Organization. The designed model as such is a system of cooperation that contains four basic components of the interaction: personnel management, career counselling, mentoring and specialist's competitiveness which is a central component in this model.

The importance of logistics structure to economies is becoming increasingly significant and in order to support the economic growth based on exports, governments have sought to constantly improve the quality of logistics infrastructure of their countries, ensuring and promoting competitiveness of its production internationally. The consensus is that the logistics structure forms a vital link in the entire chain of trade, contributing to the international competitiveness of a country. This study aims to characterize the country as its logistics structure and relationship of this result to the promotion of competitiveness for them by relevance participation in world trade. To reach that goal the methodological procedure was performed a literature search and analysis of secondary data. Initially, through the identification and validation of data for countries and hence the application of multivariate data analysis methods to measure dimensions that allow such classification, planning, and especially the identification of dimensions of logistics infrastructure components in terms of promotion competitiveness.

Tyrimo aktualumas. Šalies konkurencingumo klausimai, susiję su globalizacijos poveikį patiriančiais ir dėl to itin sparčiai kintančiais ekonominės, politinės, teisinės bei socialinės aplinkos elementais, yra nuolatos aktualūs, reikšmingi, atkreipiantys tiek konkurencingumo teorijas kuriančių ar praplečiančių mokslininkų, tiek ekonomikos augimo politikas formuojančių praktikų dėmesį. Esamojo laikotarpio konkurencingumo iššūkiai glaudžiai siejami su sudėtinga šalies demografine padėtimi, emigracijos procesų sąlygotomis problemomis, Rusijos ir Ukrainos konfliktu, leidusiu suvokti atskirų Lietuvos verslo sektorių (tarp dažniausiai įvardijamų – pieno, mėsos, atvykstamojo turizmo, transporto) spragas. Tikėtina, kad verslo problemų kyla dėl menkų gebėjimų rasti naujų rinkų ir konkuruoti juose savo produkcija ar paslaugomis. Taigi itin svarbus tampa verslumas.Mokslinė tyrimo problema formuluojama klausimu, kaip padidinti Lietuvos konkurencingumą, pasitelkiant verslumą, inovatyvaus verslo kūrimą ir vystymą?Mokslinės problemos ištyrimo lygis ir tyrimo naujumas. Pažymėtina, jog verslumas, kaip šalies konkurencingumo pagrindas, teoriškai nagrinėtas menkai, nepaisant fakto, jog per savo istoriją verslumas buvo tirtas daugybės mokslininkų, priklausančių įvairioms mokslo sritims:verslumas kaip nedarbo mažinimo priemonė (Baptista, Thurik, 2004; Rona-Tas, Sagi, 2005; Parker, 2006; Henley, 2007; Block, Sandner, 2009; Malchow-Møller, Schjerning, Sørensen, 2009; Badal, 2010; Oladele, Akeke, Oladunjoye, 2011; Nallari, Griffith, Wang, Andriamananjara, Hiat, Bhattacharya, 2011; Kritikos, 2014; Hathaway, Litan, 2014);verslumas kaip ekonominio augimo (t. y. Tad verslumas gali būti analizuojamas kaip nacionalinio konkurencingumo veiksnys. Vertinant šiuo požiūriu, reikia pastebėti, kad stinga darbų, galinčių pasiūlyti išsamią verslumo poveikio šalies konkurencingumui globalioje erdvėje analizę.Tyrimo objektas yra verslumas kaip konkurencingumo veiksnys.Tyrimo tikslas yra teoriškai argumentuoti identifikuotą ir koncepciniame modelyje išryškintą teigiamą verslumo įtaką Lietuvos konkurencingumo didinimui ir pagrįsti tolesnio kiekybinio tyrimo reikšmę.Tyrimo metodai: mokslinės literatūros sisteminė, lyginamoji analizė ir sintezė; loginė dedukcija ir indukcija; ekspertinis vertinimas (pusiau struktūruoto interviu metodas); turinio analizė.Pagrindinės darbo išvados. Verslumas suvokiamas kaip daugiadisciplininis objektas, aktualus vadybos, ekonomikos, psichologijos, sociologijos, antropologijos ir kitų mokslo šakų tyrinėtojams. Jis gali būti nusakomas kaip įvairiais aspektais analizuotinas reiškinys, turintis nepaneigiamą reikšmę socialinių procesų vystymuisi ir visuomenės pažangai. Dėl tyrimo aspektų gausos verslumą gana sunku vienareikšmiškai apibūdinti, todėl dažniausiai mokslininkai, pateikdami definicijas, išryškina tuo metu jų atliekamai analizei svarbius verslumo aspektus. Dažniausiai verslumo definicijos išskiria tokias dimensijas: esmines verslininkų savybes, bruožus; verslių organizacijų požymius; verslumo raiškos rezultatus. Manytina, jog, norint sukurti išsamiausią verslumo apibrėžtį, reikėtų stengtis aprėpti visas šias dimensijas, tačiau tokiu būdu būtų prarastas definicijoms būtinas konkretumas, lakoniškumas, aiškumas. Todėl, atsižvelgiant į šio darbo tikslą, verslumas apibūdinamas kaip verslo, besiremiančio įžvalgia, veiklia verslininko (angl. entrepreneur) asmenybe, kūrimas ir (ar) vystymas, taip realizuojant ir komercializuojant turimas inovatyvias verslo idėjas, sąlygojančias pokyčius ekonominėje, kultūrinėje, politinėje, teisinėje, socialinėje aplinkoje, mikrolygmeniu stiprinančias konkuravimo galimybes rinkoje, o makrolygmeniu – didinančias nacionalinio konkurencingumo pozicijas.Verslumo poveikį konkurencingumui atspindinčių tyrimų mokslinėje literatūroje itin stinga. Nors dažnai inovacijos yra pateikiamos kaip pagrindinė konkurencingumo siekimo ir išlaikymo priemonė, o verslumas daugelio mokslininkų yra pripažįstamas kaip inovacijų kūrimo variklis, vis dėlto bendrų sąsajų tarp nacionalinio verslumo ir konkurencingumo nesiekiama plačiau pagrįsti. Mokslininkai neretai apsiriboja tik abstrakčiais teiginiais, leidžiančiais suvokti, jog verslumo, kaip konkurencingumo formavimo pagrindo, prielaida egzistuoja ir gali būti patvirtinama. Kita vertus, mokslinių tyrimų analizuojamoje srityje stokojama dėl pavienių mokslininkų įvardijamos objektyvios priežasties – rasti ryšį tarp verslumo ir konkurencingumo yra pakankamai sudėtinga užduotis, kurios rezultatus dažnai lemia tyrimo metodų pasirinkimas, bendras šalies kontekstas (šalies vystymosi stadija, verslininkiškos veiklos lygis, verslininkiškos veiklos prigimtis ir kt.). Šiame straipsnyje pateiktas modelis akcentuoja išorinių ir vidinių veiksnių įtaką nacionalinėms verslumo sąlygoms, veikiančioms šalies konkurencingumą. Tinkamos verslumo sąlygos sukuria aukštesnius verslumo rezultatus (socialinio kapitalo efektyvumo ir kvalifikacijos padidėjimas, aukštas produktyvumas, kaštų mažėjimas, BVP didėjimas, darbo vietų sukūrimas) ir taip sąlygoja šalies konkurencingumo augimą.Pusiau struktūruotas ekspertų interviu, kuris buvo vykdomas kaip žvalgomasis tyrimas, rodo, jog respondentai pritaria nuostatai, kad verslumas gali veikti nacionalinį konkurencingumą. Beveik visi respondentai pastebi verslumo poveikį ekonomikos augimui (BVP), kaštų mažinimui, produktyvumo, socialinės gerovės, socialinio kapitalo kokybės ir inovacijų augimui (beveik visi respondentai pabrėžia teigiamą verslumo įtaką kiekvienai iš šių dimensijų). Prieštaringai vertinama verslumo įtaka nedarbui. Respondentai negali vienareikšmiškai pritarti verslo daromai pozityviai įtakai, kadangi neigiama įtaka taip pat akivaizdi. Todėl reikalingas tolesnis tyrimas, įvertinantis statistinį ryšį tarp verslumo ir nedarbo, tarp verslumo ir nacionalinio konkurencingumo.

Engineering is a major industry in Latvian economy. It ranks third (to wood processing and food industry) in the amount of turnover. Due to the inflow of foreign investment, well-educated labor as well as export potential, engineering and metalworking have a promising outlook. However, this industry lacks competitiveness due to cutting investment and development expenses in this sector, as well as low added value. That said, the government should step up its policies to promote innovation activity of machinery manufacturers.

This study aims at identifying the influence of corporate social responsibility (CSR) on the competitiveness of tourist enterprises in an emerging tourism region – Mekong Delta in Vietnam with an empirical case of Ben Tre Province. Combining qualitative and quantitative research methods, we conducted a survey of 250 respondents including directors, deputy directors, managing and running tourism businesses. Through statistical tests of scale reliability, exploratory factor analysis, confirmatory factor analysis and structural equation modelling, we found that there are five perspectives of CSR significantly affecting the enterprise competitiveness, including (1) human-oriented CSR, (2) social activity–oriented CSR, (3) partner-oriented CSR, (4) environment-oriented CSR and (5) product and service quality–oriented CSR. Especially, this study identified the important roles of three new elements discovered through our expert interviews and group discussions, including ‘connection between business culture development strategy and the local and native cultures’, ‘tourism products/services promoting local special features’ and ‘tourism products/services promoting green environment’. From these findings, we proposed some managerial implications for policymakers to have proper policies in promoting CSR among tourist enterprises and improving their competitiveness.

Introduction. The development of the business sector is characterized by the tendency of many enterprises to promote environmentally friendly strategies; implement sustainable development goals; which will help solve global and local environmental problems; reduce anthropogenic pressure on the environment; save resources; form competitive development of the country and business sector as a whole. The purpose of the article is to study scientific approaches to determining the main factors and components of sustainable competitiveness; defining key goals (target groups) and determinants that will determine the subject basis of appropriate marketing strategies to ensure the green competitiveness of enterprises. Results. In order to form strategic guidelines for promoting green competitiveness; the article has systematized scientific approaches to its research; which include marketing; technology; innovation; communication; stakeholder; quality; level; financial and ethical areas. The authors have emphasized that the processes of providing environmentally friendly competitive advantages are largely determined by a set of appropriate determinants. The article proposes to create two groups of the relevant determinants; which will be determined by objective (external) and subjective (internal) components. The system of relevant factors is proposed to be classified according to managerial; financial; infrastructural; nanoeconomics; behavioral; production; innovation; and cultural and ethical criteria. The content of external and internal determinants is determined for each criterion separately. Prospects for further research. The study of the main determinants of green competitiveness will form a range of appropriate strategies for its promotion. It is advisable to use these components as key guidelines; primarily related to internal components.

Purpose This paper aims to analyse the competitiveness of the regions of the Visegrad countries (Czechia, Hungary, Poland and Slovakia) with respect to their sustainability and discuss the role of the EU cohesion policy in promoting regional competitiveness in this dimension. Design/methodology/approach The sustainable competitiveness of Visegrad Group countries was analysed with the use of a taxonomic method, to determine the regions with the highest, middle and low level of the sustainable development (competitiveness). The level of sustainable competitiveness of the Visegrad regions was indicated based on the author’s own set of diagnostic variables which define three dimensions of sustainability. Findings The analysis revealed that the regions of the Visegrad Group countries with high GDP per capita are not necessarily ranked high in terms of sustainable competitiveness. The obtained results confirm the assumption that traditional indicators such as GDP per capita do not capture all aspects of social and environmental sustainability. Thus, the cohesion policy in the Visegrad Group countries should be diversified and adjusted to the special needs of the regions with particular emphasis being laid on sustainability dimension and the level of their economic development. When identifying the directions of support under the cohesion policy, special attention should be paid to the development of modern technologies, including information and communication technology (ICT), that facilitate the transformation of regions towards the smart regions path. Research limitations/implications Because of the data availability, it covers only one year, 2014, where it was possible. Further investigation should focus on the comparison of the changes over a certain period and changes that took place in the ranking. In addition, a detailed analysis of the regions with regard to their development of the “sustainable path” should be considered. It is essential to support less developed regions in the field of the sustainable and inclusive development through cohesion policy which is supported in 2014-2020. However, it is also important to promote the ICT investment in the lagging regions. Practical implications The analysed 35 regions of the Visegrad countries were ranked according to their level of sustainable competitiveness. The three groups of regions were distinguished. The first place in the ranking was occupied by the region which recorded the highest value of the TMC – a taxonomic measure of sustainable competitiveness and the last region – it is the region with the lowest value of the TMC. Originality/value The paper discusses the concept of sustainable competitiveness of regions. The level of sustainable competitiveness of the Visegrad regions was indicated based on the own set of diagnostic variables which define three dimensions of sustainability. The paper makes a contribution to the discussion on the regional smart and sustainable competitiveness and the role of EU cohesion policy in supporting the sustainable competitiveness.

The article analyzes an aggregate indicator consisting of 10 components of governance (sub-indices) to assess the competitiveness of cities. The competitiveness of cities is ranked by 10 components. Under conditions of decentralization, the role of local government in economic development is growing, and it is not countries and regions that are competing, but enterprises and their clusters. To assess the business climate in cities, the article summarizes the data of the US Agency for International Development's Report "Competitive Economy of Ukraine" in partnership with Info Sapiens and the Institute for Economic Research and Policy Consulting introducing the Index of Competitiveness of Ukrainian Cities developed through personal interviews with business representatives in Ukrainian cities and with the help of desk research. Indicators and obstacles to increasing the competitiveness of the regions of Ukraine are summarized. The conducted analysis made it possible to establish the negative dynamics of reducing the level of competitiveness of Ukrainian regions and to identify the reasons associated with a significant decline in economic indicators of the regions. Given modernity, among the strategic steps to improve the state regional policy, the article suggests motivating the creation of a favorable environment for business development in the regions; simplifying the business access to finance and the tax administration system; promoting the acquisition of skills, the development of a culture of entrepreneurship, and the formation of responsible behavior; improving the legal framework for compliance with EU standards; promoting the export of business products and services and their internationalization; promoting the process of competitiveness and innovation development, supporting the transfer of knowledge and technology, modernizing the existing infrastructure; strengthening the institutional framework for creating a favorable environment for business growth, monitoring the current business support activities, and their innovation activities.

Purpose This paper aims to understand the relationship between employee satisfaction and customer satisfaction and its impacts on the long-term sustainability of Hemsedal Ski Resort, Norway. Design/methodology/approach This study uses a mixed method approach. Focusing on the case of Hemsedal, Norway, the authors employ survey design to measure employee service attitudes as well as guest satisfaction and loyalty. Correlation analysis and structural equation modeling (SEM) analysis is used to investigate the relationships between the constructs. Findings Results from the four-year programme reveal that the correlation between employee service attitude and customer experience is strongest for behavioural loyalty which was found to have a direct and observable effect for the customer and that working to teach and train employees is important. Further, results showed that guest satisfaction with service not only influenced loyalty to the company that provided the service, but also loyalty to the destination where the company was situated. In explaining the relationships between levels of employee service attitude, customer satisfaction and community sustainability at Hemsedal ski resort, results showed that through partnership and cooperation, training and development have benefitted the individual companies, the destination and local community at large. Practical implications Results suggest that managers of tourism destinations should focus on employee motivation and training to improve their guests’ satisfaction and loyalty, their competitiveness and sustainability for the future. Originality/value The Service Excellence Project at Hemsedal, Norway demonstrates that mountain destinations can have a positive influence on their competitiveness and their sustainability by instituting a programme that works with employees, customers and businesses to promote a climate of service excellence.

This paper examines the university–industry–government relationship as a mechanism for enhancing the efficiency and competitiveness of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). The case of a community enterprise producing dried banana products in the north of Thailand is used to demonstrate the significance of the Triple Helix model for business and technology development in SMEs. Government initiatives designed to promote innovation leading to price and quality competitiveness of the products of SMEs and community enterprises are explored and their effectiveness is discussed. In developing countries, where there are weak links and limited interactions between the institutional sectors of government, academia and industry, intermediaries play a crucial role in building networks to facilitate the transfer and exchange of knowledge. Effective network links would enable SMEs to have access to various sources of financial, knowledge, technology and market support. In Thailand, the Industrial Technology Assistance Programme (ITAP) plays an important intermediary role in identifying the needs of SMEs, accessing relevant knowledge and technology from universities and other sources of knowledge, and matching the demand of SMEs for knowledge/technology with the supply available from universities and research and development laboratories. The experience of the dried banana community enterprise discussed in this paper gives credence to the view that SMEs in developing countries such as Thailand would benefit significantly from technology policy based on the Triple Helix model and the proactive role of intermediary agencies such as ITAP.

Sustainable development is a concept that is constantly evolving, being discussed at the global, national, and local levels, not only among individuals but also within organisations. However, the importance of this concept lies in its complexity. The article's main goal is to identify the approaches of selected Czech companies to promote the concept of sustainable development and evaluate the basic factors that impact competitiveness. The data were obtained based on quantitative research (questionnaire survey of data collection) in selected organisations (n = 179) and additional qualitative research in the form of individual interviews with representatives of agricultural enterprises (n = 8). Data were processed using chi-square tests and factor analysis to identify latent variables. Key approaches to promoting the concept of sustainable development include an emphasis on process approach, non-financial business performance, and sector stability. The basic factors for competitiveness are quality relationships with stakeholders and the implementation of an integrated management system.

This article aims to understand the relationship between innovation and global competitiveness in several Southeast Asian countries, including: Vietnam, Singapore, Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia, Bruney, and Philippines in the period 2005 - 2017. Only data on the global competitiveness index from 2013 to 2017 were collected in Laos, the same index was collected in Brunei but in a different period from 2008 to 2013 and the year 2016, 2017. In addition, data on innovation activities from 2007 to 2017 were collected in Cambodia. Data in the study were collected from the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO). ), World Economic Forum (WEF), World Bank (World Bank), and random-effects, fixed-effects methods were used. Research results show that innovation activities have a positive impact on global competitiveness and economic development is a factor promoting the global competitiveness of some Southeast Asian countries. Based on the research results, some Southeast Asian countries should have appropriate policies to develop global competitiveness, especially focusing on policies to encourage innovation for businesses, mechanisms, enabling businesses to innovate, which contributes to improving the global competitiveness of countries.

Purpose This paper aims to explore sustainable tourism in Europe in economic, socio-cultural and environmental dimensions as well as discuss key challenges and necessary steps to be taken by the national tourism organisations. Design/methodology/approach The author takes a look at the evolution and importance of sustainable development for the travel and tourism industry today. Findings Last year Europe reached another record of international tourist arrivals, resulting in a 6 per cent increase on the previous year’s performance. Factors that contributed to this development include the recovery of major source markets, marketing efforts in promoting travel offseason as well as themed promotional activities in third markets. However, the European tourism industry is facing increasing challenges, in particular, those related to the quest between sustainable practices and the need for increasing competitiveness as a global destination. Originality/value This paper provides a current view of how sustainable tourism in Europe became a key global challenge.

Individuals vary in their intrasexual competitiveness attitude, i.e., an important variable reflecting the potential threat or the extent to which one perceives other individuals of the same sex as social or mating rivals. In this study, we investigated the relationship between self-perceived mate value, a construct usually linked to intersexual selection, and intrasexual competitiveness attitude. We postulated that those psychological traits that increase mate value are related to psychological traits underlying intrasexual competitiveness attitude. The results obtained from a sample of 711 young participants of both sexes (M= 16.93 years ± SD = 0.86) indicated that mate value was positively related to intrasexual competitiveness attitude. Specifically, the subscales ofFear of Failure,Wealth, andLookswere positive predictors of intrasexual competitiveness attitude. Moreover, theLookssubscale was more relevant in determining intrasexual competitiveness attitude in women than in men. These three subscales were part of the same factorial structure that appears to be indicative of a self-promoting strategy based on the ostentation of traits through attitudes. As a conclusion, we argue that the individual differences in intrasexual competitiveness attitudes are associated with the differences in psychological features usually associated with intersexual selection.

The issue of stakeholder activity and collaboration for developing and promoting the green competitiveness of enterprises are nowadays relevant and play a significant role in creating competitive advantages. Systematization literary sources prove that economic activity is characterizing by specific relationships between a wide set of stakeholders, the effective communicative system can bring potential benefits to all parties and stakeholders have specific expectations regarding various aspects of the enterprises’ operation: organizational, economic, social, environmental etc. The main objective of the article is creating the preconditions for building the stakeholder communication system for promoting the green competitiveness of the company and assessing by stakeholders the results of companies’ activity. The paper used scientific methods are based on logical generalization and scientific abstraction for systematizing the prerequisites for the formation of a system of communications of green competitive stakeholders; typology of green competitiveness stakeholders; formal-logical for determining the determinants and principles of effective collaboration of stakeholders of green competitiveness. For investigating the stakeholders’ assessment of the green competitiveness effects was undertaken Multidimensional scaling analysis and were estimated five outcome dimensions: consumer satisfaction in green goods; efficiency of green goods production; green goods quality and cleaner production; institutional partnership; community impact. For scaling responses in survey research was used a seven-point psychometric Likert scale. A general questioning is provided for five countries: Ukraine, Poland, Romania, Slovenia, Czech Republic, and include the results of the survey the 1236 stakeholders. The results of the assessment showed that in all groups (internal and external) of stakeholder, the employees assessed results of the environmental strategies as «success» – 22,3% and community from another group – 7,45%. The stakeholder opinion is the same. That is evidence that the processes of greening stakeholder’s communication are becoming wider and involve more participants. The result of the research creates the background for improving the system of green competitiveness stakeholder interaction. Asia is the home of many of the world’s top rice exporters. The food-price crisis has divided Asia into “rice haves” and “rice have-nots”. In order to describe the processes involved in securing and maintaining international competitiveness in rice exports, the present study has used the Balassa and White indices of revealed comparative advantage and revealed competitive advantage respectively. Results have revealed that Pakistan is the most competitive country in rice trade and ranks first in both agricultural product trade and total merchandise exports. Productivity and economic growth are key factors to maintain and improve the competitiveness of nations in the global market. The paper analyzes the prospects for the competitiveness of Ukrainian exports in the terms of pandemic circumstances and post-pandemic recovery of the global economy. The prospects for strengthening the competitiveness of Ukraine’s economy evaluating based on the modified approach for assessing the revealed comparative advantage. The dynamics and structure of major industries exports were estimating. The research result proved that the growth of innovative products in the iron and steel industry increases its competitiveness in the world market. The established reduction of the identified comparative advantages index for the main exports positions reflects the presence of structural and technological lags in the modern structure of the national economy and requires economic policy measures aimed at long-term action. Respectively, the main goals of contemporary national economic policy aimed at promoting the export competitiveness of Ukrainian products (goods & services) have to be the stimulating of R&D, infrastructure modernization and capital deepening.

The methodology used was qualitative and based on the documentary review of specialized scientific publications; at the end reflections are made from the holistic approach to highlight the components that contribute most to the subject of cited. ABSTRACT Unisexual reproduction is a novel homothallic sexual cycle recently discovered in both ascomycetous and basidiomycetous pathogenic fungi. It is a form of selfing that induces the yeast-to-hyphal dimorphic transition in isolates of the α mating type of the human fungal pathogen Cryptococcus neoformans . Unisexual reproduction may benefit the pathogen by facilitating sexual reproduction in the absence of the opposite a mating type and by generating infectious propagules called basidiospores. Here, we report an independent potential selective advantage of unisexual reproduction beyond genetic exchange and recombination. We competed a wild-type strain capable of undergoing unisexual reproduction with mutants defective in this developmental pathway and found that unisexual reproduction provides a considerable dispersal advantage through hyphal growth and sporulation. Our results show that unisexual reproduction may serve to facilitate access to both nutrients and potential mating partners and may provide a means to maintain the capacity for dimorphic transitions in the environment.

The article is devoted to the characterization of the priority direction of development of financial and credit support to the subjects of the tourism sector, namely, its implementation through the assessment of the competitiveness of the tourism product. It was noted that the competitiveness of the tourism product is closely tied to a specific market and the requirements of strictly defined groups of consumers, and therefore should be assessed by meeting the requirements of consumers.

This article explores the changing focus of collective bargaining within the context of the global drive for competition. The first section describes how the main items on the agenda for collective bargaining have shifted from income distribution to means of promoting and protecting employment and competitiveness, and explains how mass unemployment and precarious employment have pushed employment security to the top of the collective bargaining agenda. Technological change, the increasing globalisation of the economy, the formation of regional economic groupings, and the intensification of competition between firms in the product market have all contributed to the pressure on collective bargaining institutions to improve competitiveness. The second section examines innovative approaches to dealing with the issues of employment protection, creation and competitiveness by highlighting the collective bargaining experiences of a number of countries outside of the European Union.

AbstractGhana's Public Procurement Act 2003 was enacted to bring about the judicious, economic and efficient use of state resources, transparency, fairness, and non-discrimination in procurement. The primary objective of the act is best value for money. This article assesses how, beyond being used to achieve its primary objective, the law should be applied to propel the capacity and competitiveness of local businesses in Ghana. It argues that effective implementation of the act can indirectly promote competition and industrial competiveness in Ghana. Therefore, procurement entities must follow the requirements for procurement, both to achieve best value for money and to build and improve upon the capacity of domestic industries. Competition, transparency and restrictions on the application of single-source procurement and restricted tendering can promote and encourage the participation of Ghanaian firms in procurement. This can enhance their capacity and competitiveness in both procurement and other economic activities in Ghana.

The increasing prominence of social media marketing in advancing the global reach and visibility of products and services is ideal for the South African tourism industry, which depends on local and international visitors for leveraging its business activities and competitiveness. However, what remains under-explored in tourism literature is the depth of integration of social media marketing into the competitive strategies of emerging tourism small, micro and medium enterprises (SMMEs). To address this grey area, this study explored the extent to which tourism SMMEs utilize social media technologies (SMTs) to extend their market share and the implications thereof for the competitiveness of their business operations. Drawing on a quantitative approach, a survey was conducted on 234 tourism SMMEs’ owner/managers in the Free State province of South Africa to establish the impact of social media marketing on the competitiveness of their businesses. Evidence suggests that tourism SMMEs employed social media marketing predominantly for online marketing of their products/services, promoting their products/services, attracting existing customers, and sometimes, for integrating it into their marketing strategies. Results of correlation analysis revealed that social media marketing is positively and significantly related to the competitiveness of tourism SMMEs. The recommendations for leveraging the integration of social media marketing into the competitive strategy of the small business are provided.

This study innovatively uses local government regulations related to manufacturing to quantitatively identify industrial policies. The degree of influence and functional mechanism of China’s industrial policies on the green competitiveness of the manufacturing industry are empirically examined using the provincial and regional panel data. Additionally, the synergistic complementary effect between industrial policy power and market forces and the fiscal decentralization’s role in influencing industrial policies are investigated. The results reveal that the promulgation and implementation of industrial policies have significantly promoted the green competitiveness of the manufacturing industry. Regarding functional mechanisms, environmental governance has played a positive role in promoting the green competitiveness of the manufacturing industry supported by industrial policies, resource allocation, and innovation incentives. Meanwhile, industrial policies on green competitiveness in manufacturing depend on marketization and fiscal decentralization in local governments. The above findings demonstrate that the local governments in China, a developing economy, can play the role of development-oriented governments. Based on conforming to market deepening and system optimization, they can formulate and implement industrial policies in a rational manner and achieve green development and upgrade the manufacturing industry.

Purpose China intends to enhance its environmental regulations, which will affect many industries, because of the serious environmental pollution that the country faces. This study aims to investigate the influence of environmental regulations on China’s provincial tourism competitiveness. Design/methodology/approach A vertical-and-horizontal scatter degree method is used to construct provincial-level tourism competitiveness and environmental regulation indices in China. Thereafter, a spatial econometric model is established to empirically assess the influence of environmental regulations on China’s provincial tourism competitiveness and investigate the spatial spillover effects of environmental regulations. Findings Environmental regulations and China’s provincial tourism competitiveness exhibit a “U”-shaped relationship, mainly because of the indirect effects of environmental regulations (spatial spillover effects). The environmental regulation indices of the majority of the provinces have crossed the turning point. Thus, improving environmental regulations has a positive effect on tourism competitiveness. This effect mainly originates from the positive spatial spillover effects. Social implications Tourism development plays an important role in promoting economic growth. However, increasing environmental pollution may constrain the development of tourism. Therefore, the possible influence of environmental regulations on tourism development should be understood. Originality/value At present, no research has explored the influence of environmental regulations on China’s tourism competitiveness. The current study considers the nonlinear effects of environmental regulations and investigates their spatial spillover effects.

Based on the objective understanding of the present situation of students’ employment in independent college, the paper interprets multi-dimensionally the connotation of students’ employment competitiveness, using the EFE Matrix on the evaluation of the independent college students’ employment environment , and the SWOT Matrix on the analysis of advantages and disadvantages of the independent college students’ employment competition, putting forward dynamic ways of effective enhancement of the independent college students’ employment competitiveness under the viewpoint of transformation, moreover, promoting independent college students’ employment in light of the new situation.
