Metodu BDI-II mohu proto vřele doporučit jako kvalitní screeningový nástroj k detekci depresivní symptomatiky a potenciálně též subdepresivních stavů. BDI-II navíc svou strukturou umožňuje zaměřit se na respondentovy odpovědi jednotlivě a spolu s ním potenciálně depresivní symptomy během následného rozhovoru flexibilně prozkoumat. Tyto relevantní informace umožňují snáze dosáhnout vhodného diagnostického závěru.

W erze cyfrowej, jednym z popularnych źródeł szukania informacji stał się Internet. Zamieszczane w nim informacje nie zawsze są wiarygodne. Celem artykułu było określenie, w jakim stopniu odbiorcy weryfikują wiarygodność informacji zamieszczonych w Internecie oraz scharakteryzowanie kryteriów, pomocnych przy ocenie wiarygodności informacji zamieszczonych w Internecie. Realizacja celu opierała się na analizie literatury przedmiotu oraz raportów poświęconych zagadnieniom korzystania z Internetu. W artykule zamieszczono m.in. charakterystykę atrybutów informacji składających się na jej jakość, ponieważ stanowią one główne wyznaczniki przy określaniu kryteriów oceny informacji. Tematyka jest o tyle ważna, że świadomość oraz wiedza internautów, w jaki sposób korzystać z informacji zamieszczanych w Internecie, może zabezpieczać przed cyberatakami oraz ułatwiać podejmowanie decyzji i kształtować odpowiednie zachowanie. Literatura przedmiotu i tutoriale dostarczają wskazówek, pomagających ocenić jakość informacji, ale jak wynika z badań, użytkownicy Internetu rzadko kiedy świadomie weryfikują prezentowane tam treści. Pewną trudnością jest też ustalenie, na ile cecha, jaką jest wiarygodność informacji, może być wystarczająca przy podejmowaniu decyzji.

Za planiranje i vođenje poslovanja nužna je adekvatna informacijska podloga zainteresiranim korisnicima. Informirati korisnike znači predočiti im relevantne i pouzdane informacije u prepoznatljivom obliku i sadržaju razumljivom korisnicima kojima su namijenjene. Najveći dio tih informacija nastaje u računovodstvu. Konačni proizvod računovodstvenog procesa je skup izvještaja koji se nazivaju financijskim izvještajima. Oni izvještavaju o stanju poduzeća i uspješnosti poslovanja te upozoravaju na moguće probleme. Financijski izvještaji koje sastavljaju poduzetnici definirani Zakonom o računovodstvu jesu: bilanca, račun dobiti i gubitka, izvještaj o novčanom toku, izvještaj o promjenama glavnice i bilješke uz financijske izvještaje. Financijsko izvještavanje mora osigurati: pouzdane informacije za donošenje upravljačkih odluka, upotrebljive informacije sadašnjim i potencijalnim investitorima i kreditorima za donošenje odluka o ulaganjima i kreditima, informacije o resursima poduzetnika i njihovim izvorima, o transakcijama koje utječu na promjene resursa i izvora, informacije o uspješnosti poslovanja u određenom razdoblju, kao i informacije stručnjacima koji žele proučavati stanje i poslovanje u prošlosti u svezi s planiranjem i sl. Osim vlasnicima i menedžmentu, informacije o stanju i poslovanju poduzeća može biti interesantno i drugim skupinama kao što su: poslovni partneri, investitori, banke, državne institucije i sl. Svaka od tih skupina, s obzirom na razloge i motive promatranja, usmjerena je na određene aspekte financijskih informacija. Onima s računovodstvenim znanjem, skup financijskih izvještaja je razumljiv, a ukoliko su i revidirani preko neovisnih revizora, tada im je to i pouzdan izvor informacija za njihove potrebe. Međutim, veliki je broj onih koji nisu računovodstveni stručnjaci i kojima je potrebno odgovarajuća interpretacija financijskih izvještaja. Interpretacija podrazumijeva analizu financijskih izvještaja korištenjem složenog instrumentarija financijske analize. Kao sredstva analize koriste se analitičke tehnike: vrijednosne i postotne promjene, trend u postotcima, komponente u postotcima te pokazatelji i sustavi pokazatelja. U radu se primjenom relevantnih analitički metoda i tehnike provodi analiza financijskog izvještaja odabranog poduzeća. Cilj je ovog rada da pokaže kako se, primjenom analitičkih metoda i tehnika, mogu interpretirati podaci koji se pojavljuju u financijskim izvještajima, a za potrebe vlasnika i menadžmenta, kreditora i drugih korisnika.

V této studii analyzujeme obsahovou správnost tématu evoluce člověka ve 14 českých dějepisných učebnicích. Zaměřujeme se na tři klíčové oblasti – pojetí vývoje člověka, druhovou analýzu a pojetí druhu H. sapiens . Upozorňujeme na řadu zastaralých informací a opakujících se nepřesností, které učebnice dějepisu obsahují, jako je kupříkladu čistě lineární schéma evolučního vývoje nebo uvádění neandertálce jako poddruhu Homo sapiens .Upozorňujeme, jak a proč mohou tyto miskoncepce později komplikovat relevantní pochopení evoluce ve výuce přírodopisu a biologie.

Namenjeni so različnim uporabnikom: širši javnosti, politikom, strokovni javnosti, zato morajo biti pripravljeni tako, da predstavljajo poenostavljene informacije, ki so relevantne za doseganje trajnostnega razvoja.

Introducción. El consentimiento informado es un procedimiento importante en el cual se suministra al paciente la información adecuada de los procesos de intervención en salud y el individuo manifiesta estar o no de acuerdo con su realización. En fisioterapia, su aplicabilidad no se ejerce con diligencia, por factores como la falta de conocimiento, la deficiente capacitación al respecto o las políticas institucionales de las diferentes entidades de salud. Objetivo. Identificar los aspectos relevantes de la aplicación y conceptualización del consentimiento informado en fisioterapia.Materiales y métodos. Se hizo una revisión en bases de datos tales como: Scielo, Lilacs, Cochrane y Redalyc, y en revistas especializadas; la búsqueda de información se limitó al período 2000-2013. Como palabras de referencia se utilizaron: consentimiento informado, fisioterapia y aplicabilidad del proceso de consentimiento informado. Se estableció una matriz de análisis para registrar los datos de la literatura científica consultada. Resultados. Se revisaron 50 documentos entre artículos y textos en torno al consentimiento informado, de los cuales 14 corresponden a bibliografía específica sobre fisioterapia, demostrándose la limitación en el abordaje desde esta disciplina. Sin embargo, se establecen elementos comunes desde las diferentes disciplinas de salud, en cuanto a la definición y las condiciones de aplicación del consentimiento infomado en la práctica clínica y en la investigación. Conclusiones. Existe dificultad en la percepción de la importancia del consentimiento informado en fisioterapia, el cual se reduce a la firma de un documento; se desconoce su relevancia en el ámbito legal y ético.Palabras clave: consentimiento informado, fisioterapia, bioética.

<p><strong>Cilj. </strong>Predstaviti koncept serendipiteta ili nailaženja na informacije, staviti ga u kontekst informacijskog ponašanja, razmotriti poticaje za istraživanje te dati pregled literature u kojoj se obrađuje tema serendipiteta u informacijskom ponašanju, kao i one u kojoj se definira pojam serendipiteta. Isto tako, cilj je predstaviti i radove u kojima se promišlja primjena koncepta serendipiteta u pretraživanju informacija te u edukaciji o informacijskoj pismenosti.</p> <p><strong>Pristup/metodologija. </strong>Pregled relevantne literature vezane uz pojam serendipiteta, sinteza dosadašnjih istraživanja i kritičko promišljanje o temi.</p> <p><strong>Rezultati. </strong>Predstavljen je pojam serendipiteta u kontekstu informacijskog ponašanja, ali i njemu srodni pojmovi kao što su slučajno nailaženje na informacije i serendipno pronalaženje informacija te drugi. Iako se s proučavanjem serendipiteta u informacijskim znanostima počelo tek relativno nedavno, do danas je izrađeno nekoliko modela informacijskog ponašanja koji uključuju slučajno nailaženje na informacije, kao i samostalnih modela slučajnog nailaženja na informacije. U ovom je radu predstavljen pregled takvih modela.</p> <p><strong>Originalnost/vrijednost</strong>. Ovaj rad predstavlja sintezu dosadašnjih istraživanja na temu serendipiteta te opisuje najnovije trendove u istraživanju teme. Također, ovo je prvo predstavljanje fenomena serendipiteta u kontekstu informacijskog ponašanja hrvatskoj znanstvenoj i stručnoj zajednici na hrvatskom jeziku.</p>

O envelhecimento da população, oriundo da queda da fecundidade e da maior longevidade, faz com que, no futuro, o grupo das pessoas disponíveis para o cuidado de idosos necessitados de assistência seja cada vez menor. Este artigo analisa o perfil do potencial cuidador informal de idosos no Brasil e estima o contingente de ambos: o idoso que potencialmente demanda assistência (IPDA) e o potencial cuidador informal (PCI). O mapeamento do Censo Demográfico de 2000 indica a existência de cerca de 7,5 milhões de pessoas de 60 e mais anos com algum grau de incapacidade e, morando com eles, pouco mais de 8 milhões de pessoas entre 18 a 79 anos sem limitações físicas. Isso gera uma razão de quase um PCI para cada IPDA. Dados qualitativos permitem captar características mais definidas de cuidadores informais, sendo as mais relevantes a presença de sentimentos de obrigação, gratidão e culpa. A união dos enfoques qualitativos/quantitativos permitiu construir cenários de demanda e oferta dos PCI, estimar a evolução do volume do PCI no período entre 2000 e 2015 e compará-la com a evolução dos IPDA. No médio prazo, essas simulações indicam diminuição do estoque de potenciais cuidadores.

ObjetivoAnalisar a qualidade de vida relacionada à saúde de cuidadores informais de pacientes em tratamento quimioterápico assistidos em uma unidade de quimioterapia de Hospital Universitário do Município de Campinas, Estado de São Paulo.MétodoTrata-se de estudo que se caracteriza por sua natureza descritiva e quantiqualitativa, com desenvolvimento a partir da realização da pesquisa bibliográfica e de campo. Utilizaram-se como instrumento de coleta de dados junto a 14 cuidadores informais, questionário sociodemográfico, contendo perguntas abertas e fechadas, e questionário de qualidade de vida na sua versão resumida, Medical Outcomes Study 36 - Item Form Short Health Survey.ResultadosA análise dos resultados evidenciou que há repercussão negativa na qualidade de vida dos cuidadores informais que participaram do estudo, tendo o aspecto emocional apresentado médias inferiores quando comparado aos outros domínios analisados, o que sugere condições desfavoráveis e implicações relacionadas ao reflexo das condições emocionais no desempenho das atividades diárias, relativas ao desempenho das tarefas relacionadas ao cuidar. Além disso, os resultados obtidos indicaram possíveis alterações relacionadas ao humor e ao bem-estar dos cuidadores informais, pois a saúde mental apresentou a segunda menor média.ConclusãoO estudo forneceu dados relevantes sobre a qualidade de vida dos cuidadores, indicando que eles sofreram impactos negativos ao desempenhar as atividades de cuidado envolvidas no acompanhamento de pacientes em tratamento quimioterápico. Além disso, evidenciou-se a necessidade de as equipes de saúde implementarem estratégias e ações dirigidas não somente aos pacientes, mas também aos cuidadores, buscando, com isso, fornecer-lhes suporte mais adequado.Termos de indexação: Atividades cotidianas. Throughout history, military officers have relied on maps to provide spatial information and make informed battlefield and other problem-solving decisions. Today’s officers can put even more spatial information at a soldier’s fingertips if they are made aware of the power of geographic information systems and software. This paper makes the argument that an informal education and introduction to the uses of geographic information systems (GIS) during their participation in reserve officer training corps (ROTC) can help provide future officers with a basic understanding on how GIS can impact their ability to solve military relevant problems with these technologies and can aid in their decision making. This project created a web application using python and based on military mapping manuals and defense tools that allow a user to create a model of how quickly the user could be able to move over a given terrain. This web application was given to military officers in ROTC training at the University of Arizona prior to participation in a land navigation exercise to help them plan and prepare their path through the event. Students using the app prior to the exercise were able to see how the information provided by GIS can help them make decisions and times were compared between those that used the tool and those that did not. This tool, and the subsequent exercise provided increased awareness in military applications of GIS for those future military officers and helps inspire them to pursue more information on the technology.

O mercado determina as relações entre necessidades sociais e consumo desenfreado. Com a atual exacerbação do consumo, o descarte, o tratamento, a disposição e a destinação dos resíduos sólidos vêm sendo considerados como alguns dos maiores problemas a serem resolvidos pelo poder público. Historicamente, a maioria dos municípios brasileiros ainda destina seus resíduos aos vazadouros a céu aberto, apesar da instituição da Política Nacional de Resíduos Sólidos – PNRS (Lei N°12.305/2010), que determinou o fechamento dos lixões municipais até 2014. Neste contexto, o mercado informal de reciclagem exerce um papel importante, apesar de não reconhecido oficialmente, no sistema de gerenciamento dos resíduos sólidos, sendo a principal via por onde passa a maior parte dos recicláveis processados no país. O mercado de reciclagem é composto por uma pequena cadeia formada pelo catador, deposeiro (sucateiro) e indústria recicladora. A catação em lixões e nas ruas é a principal fonte de material reciclável, necessária à constituição de renda do catador. Com o encerramento dos lixões, os catadores terão que se adaptar a uma nova forma de trabalho de catação nas ruas, onde as distâncias percorridas aumentarão sobre maneira. O fechamento de dois antigos e importantes lixões da Região Metropolitana do Recife (RMR), os lixões de Aguazinha (Olinda) e Muribeca (Jaboatão dos Guararapes) modificou a rotina de um número próximo de 2000 catadores, afetando toda uma cadeia produtiva. Neste sentido, este trabalho tem como objetivo retratar a trajetória do mercado informal de reciclagem, após o fechamento dos referidos lixões, por meio da realização de entrevistas estruturadas e semi-estruturadas com os atores componentes desse mercado. Trata-se de um “estudo de caso”, com a peculiaridade dos casos serem múltiplos. Foram descritas e analisadas a situação atual do catador, o comportamento do mercado de recicláveis, com foco no fluxo dos recicláveis, antes e após o fechamento dos lixões e as ações do poder público para a integração desse mercado na rotina do gerenciamento de resíduos sólidos, em cumprimento à PNRS. Com os resultados obtidos pode-se afirmar que os catadores do gênero masculino são predominantes na catação de rua. No entanto, apesar do gênero feminino possuir maior nível de escolaridade, sua remuneração é menor. No que tange ao funcionamento do mercado de reciclagem, tanto os catadores quanto os deposeiros e as indústrias de reciclagem declararam não ter havido mudança significativa do montante de recicláveis processados, após o fechamento dos lixões. Possivelmente, a demanda normal foi suprida pelas catações de rua e formações espontâneas.
The market determines the relationship between social needs and unbridled consumption. With the current exacerbation of consumption, discard, treatment and the disposal of solid waste have been regarded as some of the major problems to be solved by the government. Historically, most municipalities still intended the dumps its waste in the open, despite the imposition of the National Solid Waste Policy - NSWP (Law No. 12,305 / 2010), which ordered the closure of municipal landfills by 2014. In this context, the informal recycling market plays an important role, although not officially recognized, the management system of solid waste, with the main route through which most of the recyclable processed in the country. The recycling market is composed of a small chain formed by the scavenger, middleman (scrap dealer) and recycling industry. The collect in garbage dumps and in the streets are the main source of materials and required the establishment of income collector. With the closure of landfills, the collectors will have to adapt to a new way of picking work in the streets, where the distances increase greatly. The closing of two ancient and important dumps the Metropolitan Region of Recife (RMR), the dumps of Aguazinha (Olinda) and Muribeca (Jaboatão dos Guararapes) modified the routine a number close to 2000 collectors, affecting an entire production chain. Thus, this study aims to portray the trajectory of the informal recycling market, after the closing of these dumps, through the execution of structured interviews and semistructured interviews with the components actors in this market. This is a "case study", with the peculiarity of the cases are multiple. Were described and analyzed the current situation of the collector of recyclable market behavior, focusing on the flow of recyclable before and after the closure of dumps and the actions of government for the integration of this market in the routine management of solid waste, in compliance with NSWP. With the obtained results it can be stated that the male collectors are prevalent in street grooming. However, although females have higher levels of education, their income is lower. Regarding the operation of the recycling market, both collectors as the middleman and recycling industry stated that there was no significant change in the amount of processed recyclable after the closure of landfills. Possibly, the normal demand has been met by street collector and spontaneous formations.

Diante de um mercado globalizado e marcado por uma competitividade crescente, onde aquisi??es e fus?es consolidam as organiza??es, identifica-se uma conjuntura de busca pela sobreviv?ncia empresarial. Sob este cen?rio, empresas prestadoras de servi?os de TI operam em um ambiente extremamente din?mico que exige constantes adapta??es e mudan?as, diante das tecnologias de informa??o que s?o inovadas a todo momento. Estas organiza??es prestadoras de servi?o possuem caracter?sticas pr?prias, nas quais ? poss?vel perceber diferencia??es significativas em rela??o ao mercado de manufatura, como a intangibilidade dos servi?os, a necessidade da presen?a do cliente, a simultaneidade, entre outras. No apoio ? gest?o destas organiza??es de servi?os de TI, identificam-se alternativas que podem auxiliar na melhoria deste processo de gest?o, com reflexo na competitividade destas organiza??es. Entre elas, diversos autores prop?em a utiliza??o de modelos integrados de medi??o de desempenho como instrumentos de gest?o estrat?gica organizacional. Estes modelos s?o, em verdade, um conjunto de indicadores de medi??o de desempenho inter-relacionados e organizados atrav?s de perspectivas ou dimens?es e categorias, que auxiliam no processo de mensura??o de vari?veis, crit?rios ou atributos, e permitem a empresa medir seu desempenho e evoluir, tornando-se mais competitiva. Este estudo tem como objetivo propor um framework de dimens?es de medi??o de desempenho adequado para o neg?cio de empresas prestadoras de servi?o de TI. Resumen
This thesis is a theoretical and practical investigation of the role played by informal learning and teaching in the development of identity and applied knowledge. With the advent of mass schooling, there came to be a distinction between formal and informal education, with formal schooling representing the superiority of abstract, decontextualized, and rule-based learning over the informal, or the concrete, situated, and supposedly unstructured learning from everyday life. Research and theory in anthropology, sociocultural psychology and progressive educational philosophy have challenged this distinction, explicitly demonstrating the dialectical relationship between the formal and informal modes of all activity, regardless of setting. Inseparable from this conception of cognition is the notion that all knowledge is transmitted via culturally and sociohistorically framed and interrelated valuations of norms, beliefs, social conduct and the application of knowledge across spheres.
Progressive educational theorists argue that the creative process is the best means to tap the identity and skill-shaping potential of the informal mode. This proposition is actively and concretely investigated in this thesis through the writing, by this researcher, of a one-act play, Nineveh . As postulated by the theory, through the creative process the author's sense of identity and ability to creatively apply knowledge was affected positively. From this combined theoretical and practical examination of the informal mode of learning and teaching, a need for pluralistic educational praxis is forwarded. Engagement with the creative process is suggested as a means to help students feel more confident to learn from and enrich their lived experiences in their cultural environment, and thereby actively contribute to their interconnected sense of identity and mastery over multiple forms of applied knowledge.

Este trabalho apresenta e discute os resultados obtidos com a aplica??o das t?cnicas de expans?o de consulta denominadas Pseudo Realimenta??o de Relevantes (PRR) e Realimenta??o de Relevantes (RR) em um Sistema de Recupera??o de Informa??o (SRI) que utiliza o modelo de recupera??o de informa??o denominado TR+. TR+ ? um modelo de recupera??o de informa??o que emprega, al?m de termos, Rela??es Lexicais Bin?rias (RLB) presentes nos textos e nas consultas, para indexar e recuperar documentos textuais em l?ngua portuguesa. A aplica??o das t?cnicas de expans?o de consultas PRR e RR t?m como objetivo melhorar os resultados obtidos pelo usu?rio que realiza uma consulta. As duas t?cnicas se diferenciam quanto ? participa??o do usu?rio: enquanto a RR utiliza o julgamento do usu?rio na defini??o de quais documentos recuperados pela consulta original fornecer?o as informa??es utilizadas na expans?o da consulta, a PRR busca eliminar a participa??o do usu?rio durante este processo. Os resultados obtidos pelos experimentos, tanto utilizando PRR quanto RR, n?o superaram os resultados utilizados como baseline (Gonzalez, 2005). Ao compararmos entre si os resultados dos experimentos com as t?cnicas PRR e RR, os experimentos com PRR foram superados pela RR somente em uma rodada. No contexto dessa disserta??o podemos concluir que a utiliza??o de RLBs ao inv?s de usar somente termos, ? uma op??o mais producente.

Abstract This empirical study investigates how students in secondary school 7-9 learn the English language outside of school, in an informal setting, and how they can benefit from it in a formal setting in school. The usage of digital technology is more common nowadays amongst youngsters than it used to be before. Digital technology has become a part of young people’s daily lives, whether it is for social media, schoolwork, gaming or blogging. Most students in Swedish secondary schools have their own computers, mobile phones, and have the opportunity to borrow an iPad from school, if needed. For this reason, it is relevant and interesting to investigate how students use their informal knowledge of English in a school setting, and how teachers take advantage of that knowledge. The research focused primarily on how the incorporation of extramural English can be used as a motivating factor for students to develop their English language in a formal setting. The results showed that students who are given the opportunity to use their previous knowledge in the classroom, appeared to be more encouraged to engage in classroom activities. They were also more motivated to work with the assignments handed to them. Teachers who involved students’ interests and previous knowledge in the classroom were experienced in the use of different media in the classroom and had good knowledge about students’ daily lives and experiences, something that helped them establish a positive teacher-student relationship. La ubicuidad y magnitud de la crisis ambiental contemporánea ha dado lugar a desafíos completamente nuevos para la sociedad moderna, lo cual, en las últimas tres décadas, ha estimulado nuevos desarrollos en teoría social para intentar comprender este escenario emergente. Entre los enfoques teóricos que han sido planteados, la teoría de la sociedad del riesgo (TSR) permite comprender los problemas ambientales como parte de la crisis más amplia de la modernidad. En este marco, dichos problemas son considerados como “auto-producidos” por la sociedad moderno industrial. En los casos de problemas agudos, que llamamos “conflictos ambientales”, los actores sociales se ven involucrados en lo que podemos llamar “campos de riesgos” auto-producidos por las instituciones de la sociedad moderno industrial. Comprendidos del modo señalado, los campos de riesgo son situaciones que permiten apreciar el plano de fractura entre dos fases diferentes de la modernidad que coexisten en el presente: la modernidad industrial, o primera modernidad, y la modernización reflexiva, o segunda modernidad. En el marco teórico señalado, los actores involucrados en un conflicto ambiental se ven expuestos a actuar en medio de la contradicción de estar experimentando, por una parte, un tipo de problema propio e la segunda modernidad y, por otra parte, de verse obligados a operar con los arreglos institucionales propios de la primera modernidad para intentar la resolución del problema. Esta investigación estudia cómo se posicionan, en término de visiones paradigmáticas de primera o segunda modernidad, cinco actores relevantes en un caso conspicuo de conflicto ambiental ocurrido en el sur de Chile entre 2004 y 2005. Los actores considerados son los organismos públicos con autoridad ambiental, la empresa causante del daño, el movimiento ciudadano local, la comunidad científica, y la prensa local. El método fue diseñado para medir y caracterizar la reflexividad, o ausencia de ella, respecto de la ciencia y el conocimiento científico, en todos los actores. La medición se hizo analizando las comunicaciones públicas auto-atribuidas de los primeros cuatros actores, más los artículos informativos de la prensa escrita local. Los resultados muestran una relativamente alta reflexividad del grupo ciudadano, y nula reflexividad hacia la ciencia y el conocimiento científico tanto en los organismos públicos ambientales como en la empresa, introduciendo este último actor algo de anti-reflexividad en el caso. La comunidad científica que intervino, y el actor prensa local, muestran mayor reflexividad de la que sugiere la teoría. Los resultados permiten discutir los niveles de reflexividad de los cinco actores en el caso estudiado. En particular, permite discutir el papel de los medios respecto del riesgo y las formas en que este actor puede introducir reflexividad en un caso de conflicto ambiental, un aspecto hasta ahora poco estudiado en la teoría de la sociedad del riesgo.
three decades, a totally new family of challenges for modern society. This, in turn, has stimulated new developments in social theory to make sense of this emergent scenario. Among the theoretical perspectives that have been developed, the risk society theory (RST) makes it possible to understand the occurrence of environmental problems as a consequence of a crisis in modernity. Following this framework, environmental problems are conceptualized as ‘self-produced’ by industrial modern society. In the case of socially intense environmental problems, which we are going to call ‘environmental conflicts’, social actors get involved in what we call here ‘risk fields’ self-produced by the institutions of modern industrial society. Understood in this way, risk fields are situations that illustrate a fracture between two different phases of modernity which coexist in present time: industrial modernity or ‘first modernity’, and reflexive modernization or ‘second modernity’. According to the theoretical framework of the RST, social actors involved in an environmental conflict get immersed in a contradictory situation in which, on the one hand, they experience a problem that is by nature proper to the second modernity phase but, on the other hand, they must refer their social action to institutions that are by nature proper to the first modernity phase. This work studies the way in which five different social actors take public positions in a conspicuous environmental conflict happened in the South of Chile between October 2004 and August 2005. Actors considered are the environmental public agencies, the corporation that caused the environmental damage, a local citizen movement, the scientific community, and the local newspaper. A method was designed for measuring and interpreting ‘reflexivity’, or the lack of it, towards science and scientific knowledge by all of five actors considered. Measurements were made by analyzing news press articles, and public communications self-attributed by the other four actors. Results show relatively high reflexivity by the local citizen movement, and a lack of reflexivity towards science and scientific knowledge by public agencies and by the corporation, introducing the latter some anti-reflexivity. Scientific community that got involved in the conflict and the local newspaper, both show more reflexivity than suggested by theory. Results permit to discuss the levels of reflexivity in the five social actors considered. Particularly, results make it possible to discuss the role of the media in the context of risk, and the ways in which this actor can introduce reflexivity in the case of an environmental conflict, an aspect not much studied until now in the RST.

If the adage ‘You live and learn’ reflects any truth, then the vast majority of living and learning must take place informally. This can range from unintentional and nonconscious processes such as enculturation, to intentional and conscious self-teaching. While the study of informal learning in music has tended to focus on popular and other vernacular musicians, this chapter adopts a wider approach, considering the perspectives of a range of musicians across several musical contexts, styles and genres. The authors review key sources of knowledge, skills and abilities relevant to these musicians and to their performance, and consider examples of how informal learning practices are valued in underpinning their work. They also examine the characteristics and prevalence of informal learning, how it interfaces with other practices, and how research in the field of informal music learning may serve to promote and champion a richer perspective on the learning of music for the benefit of all learners, intentional or not.

This chapter examines the interplay between the formal and informal rules relating to the adoption of legislative acts, and the effects that this interplay has on participation and transparency in EU law-making. It discusses the relationship between the claimed objectivity of the choices relating to legal basis and their institutional implications through the Court jurisprudence, with a focus on inter-institutional power relations. The current emphasis on efficiency, guaranteed through the flexibility built into the informal rules of law-making, brings to the fore many fundamental questions relating to participation, transparency, and power in the adoption of EU legal acts. In short, efficiency comes at a cost to many other objectives that the Treaty of Lisbon was believed to strengthen. The relevant political question is whether the balance created by today’s informal law-making framework is the right one.

In this chapter, the authors focus on adult female caregivers performing informal caregiving tasks to adult females diagnosed with cancer. The authors limit discussion to a binary definition of gender, whereas Chapter 11 addresses gender minorities, including transwomen caregivers and transgender care recipients. The authors present national data on adult caregivers and describe the characteristics of female-to-female caregivers. They present a theoretical model for evaluating the impact of female-to-female cancer caregiving and review interventions that are relevant to this group of caregivers. While female caregiver to female patient is the most prevalent caregiver–patient combination, there is mostly an absence of same-gender effects on cancer caregiving and interventions.

AbstractThe system of export control regimes is an important instrument to prevent the proliferation of both weapons of mass destruction and conventional weapons. However, this system faces several structural and recent challenges. The regimes are informal, and consequently, their measures are non-binding upon states. Second, the regimes consist of a selective group of countries, excluding some dominant arms exporters. New technology is rapidly changing the military field, and it is difficult for the export control regimes to keep up with these developments. Further, most of the regimes were designed when states were the most important international actors while currently legitimate and illegitimate non-state actors play an ever-increasing role for export controls. In addition, it is unclear how the regimes will advance with the multipolar world order of the twenty-first century. All new developments could lead to the proliferation of weapons, making efforts to prevent proliferation more relevant than ever. There are several opportunities to reform and strengthen the export control regimes. Cooperation could help the regimes to remain relevant. The sharing of good practices can help the regimes to find the least disruptive and effective non-proliferation measures. Setting up a paradigm-based regime instead of a weapon-based regime may be more suitable for the future. In addition, a revision of the decision-making process would help the regimes to respond swiftly to developments in the field.

AbstractThe Senegalese social protection system has been designed and implemented for the exclusive benefit of workers and their families to protect them against economic and social risks which may cause a (partial or total, temporary or permanent) loss of their earning capacity or the capacity to satisfy their basic needs. The system, which is essentially financed by the contributions of workers and employers, does not include the larger part of the population which evolves in the informal sector. The relevant regulations introduced a principle of equal opportunity for all benefits offered to Senegalese and migrant workers as well as their family members. Nationality is therefore irrelevant since wage-earning remains a fundamental criterion. Nevertheless, because of the territoriality of social security laws, the various benefits provided by the system are not applicable. The system only benefits Senegalese and foreign workers residing in the national territory. Not only is it disadvantageous to nationals living abroad, but it can also hinder the return of foreign workers to their countries of origin at the end of their professional career. The situation can be improved by bilateral or multilateral social security agreements binding the different countries.

AbstractPort Harcourt, Nigeria, as with many cities in Africa, is already experiencing impacts from climate change while also facing development challenges and compounding vulnerabilities. There is often a gap between the adaptation recommendations of academia and international organizations and the conditions needed to achieve these recommendations given the realities on the ground in cities with vulnerable populations, pressing challenges, and minimal capacity. This gap can make it difficult to translate theoretically persuasive plans and guidance into practically sustainable actions. This chapter builds on the experience of CMAP, a Port Harcourt-based NGO leading participatory mapping, community media, and public space design programs in the city’s informal waterfront settlements. Drawing on the perspectives of Chicoco Collective, the youth-led volunteer network which CMAP supports, and the datasets that they have built, the chapter explores local awareness and skills for climate change adaptation. This chapter concludes with recommendations relevant for Port Harcourt and similar African cities to build on such local skills and experiences and advocates for a partnership-based approach that brings together adaptation professionals and community-based actors for more effective critical analysis of local conditions and prioritization of actions to meet the development and climate change needs of local communities.

AbstractInternationally there is growing interest in how young children engage with and learn concepts of science and sustainability in their everyday lives. These concepts are often built through nature and outdoor play in young children. Through the dialectical concept of everyday and scientific concept formation (Vygotsky LS, The collected works of L.S. Vygotsky. Problems of general psychology, V.1, (Trans. N Minick). Editor of English Translation, RW Rieber, and AS Carton, New York: Kluwer Academic and Plenum Publishers, 1987), this chapter presents a study of how families transformatively draw attention to STEM and sustainability concepts in the everyday practices of the home. The research followed a focus child (4–5 year old) from four families as they navigated everyday life and talked about the environments in which they live. Australia as a culturally diverse community was reflected in the families, whose heritage originated in Europe, Iran, India, Nepal and Taiwan. The study identified the multiple ways in which families introduce practices and conceptualise imagined futures and revisioning (Payne PG, J HAIA 12:2–12, 2005a). About looking after their environment. It was found that young children appear to develop concepts of STEM, but also build agency in exploration, with many of these explorations taking place in outdoor settings. We conceptualise this as a motive orientation to caring for the environment, named as E-STEM. The study emphasises for education to begin with identifying family practices and children’s explorations, as a key informant for building relevant and locally driven pedagogical practices to support environmental learning.

This chapter discusses issues of establishing adult relationships, including friendship and informal marriage, and how individuals have attempted to regulate their upcoming marriage by entering into prenuptial agreements. The road to marriage has traditionally consisted of romantic friendship, courtship, engagement, and then formal marriage. It is during the formal or informal engagement period that a couple may think of entering into a prenuptial agreement. However, this behavior pattern has changed dramatically in the past fifty years. There may no longer be defined periods on the road to marriage, and marriage itself may no longer be the final relationship between two people. Whatever the arrangement, the relevant legal questions are the following: What relationships should be labeled “family”; who should be authorized to make such a designation, the state or the parties themselves; and should the state regulate them? At the present time, two kinds of adult relationships that are not formally recognized by the state as marriage are contract cohabitation and domestic partnership or civil union.

The authors provide a broad view of the field of informal investment in the region, emphasizing the importance of separating the contribution of this sector from that provided by other channels of financing of entrepreneurship such as angel investment and venture capital. After framing the issue and reviewing the most relevant academic literature, the authors discuss the existing relationship between the current state of informal investment in the area and the size of the informal sector in economies that constitute the sector. They also show the magnitude of informal investment and its impact on the creation of new business activities, identifying the most salient features of the process, as well as their strong and weak points, and a deep reflection on the elements that would have to work to make progress in the modernization of this sector.

Considering the national need for developing a variety of professional talents through higher education, this chapter proposes an exploratory conceptual framework, to allow educators and parents to harness informal learning opportunities afforded by virtually endless resources on the Internet, in order to engage undergraduate students with necessary career decision-making processes early on in their college experience. The thesis of this chapter asserts that we must consider students' career decision-making processes as a relevant higher education learning outcome. The proposed Digital Informal Learning Resources for Career Decision-Making (DILR-CDM) framework is grounded in the Social Cognitive Career Theory and the Self-Determination Theory to identify attributes of informal learning resources manifested by digital game-based environments and social media environments. These attributes, in turn, afford informal learning opportunities to scaffold and facilitate career decision-making processes among undergraduate students.

This study examines how the development of water supply management happens over time in distinct types of informal areas in Mumbai and Nairobi. The financial differences and political barriers in both cities, together with the vast diversity factors, development patterns, and challenges of each study area show that reconsidering different approaches is significant in developing more inclusive paradigms in water provision in informal areas. Relevant to these concerns, this study aims to clarify water practices and explore inclusive ways of developing water supply management through the analyses of water provision modes and network systems in each study area. A series of field studies on the type of water sources and facilities, parties involved in water practices, and characteristics of water development was performed in six case studies (i.e., three in Mumbai and three in Nairobi) from 2014 to 2019. The main findings of this study show that an unconventional informal tenure system constrains the settlement typology and development of the physical access of service facilities in study areas. Moreover, the different measures taken by Mumbai and Nairobi in providing water supply to informal areas result in an unequal path for water development and various vulnerability levels. Therefore, we argue that the mixtures of policy- and practice-rooted practices ensure a more inclusive water development because they would lead to the sociotechnical arrangements of the technical system and institutional arrangements that better fit the local conditions characterized by different spatial structures and social variables.

Abstract The common approach to engineering software development involves the identification of relevant concepts, relations between concepts, and strategies for manipulating concepts and relations in an informal manner. We believe that although the informal approach to the identification and utilization of engineering knowledge may be sufficient for a certain class of problems, it fails to systematically support the development and study of complex automated (intelligent) engineering systems. Therefore, a formal approach is needed for such developments and studies. In this paper a formal theory that captures the knowledge associated with the physical behavior of structural systems is formulated. The physical behavior of structural systems is defined as the response (member displacements and member forces) of the structure to its environment (applied loads and boundary conditions). Predicate logic is used as the underlying formal language of the theory and the resolution theorem proving strategy is used for reasoning about the theory. The use of the formal theory for the analysis and synthesis of structural systems is illustrated and several research areas where the formal approach shows promise are discussed.

Informa dados levantados em uma pesquisa local realizada com profissionais da área da saúde, onde buscou-se informações e subsídios que possibilitem o desenvolvimento de uma ferramenta digital voltada aos dispositivos móveis, com o objetivo proporcionar materiais de promoção à vida, assistência e apoio aos usuários. Aplicando assim, a tecnologia como ferramenta de prevenção ao suicídio, participando e apoiando iniciativas públicas já existentes que tenham foco na redução do número de óbitos por esta causa.

The ‘Urban WASH' project was implemented in George and Chawama compounds in Lusaka between July 2013 and June 2017 by Oxfam and Village Water Zambia. The project aimed to improve provision and sustainable management of WASH services by engaging citizens to hold duty bearers and service providers to account. Oxfam collaborated with local institutions on an array of activities, engaging stakeholders to create a conducive environment for service provision and improving capacities and practices. This Effectiveness Review evaluates the success of this project to increase the sustainability of water and sanitation systems and services. Using a quasi-experimental evaluation design, we assessed impact among households in the intervention communities and in a comparison community. We combined the household-level quantitative assessment with analysis of community-level qualitative Key Informant Interviews, carried out with relevant institutional representatives. WorkerTech se define como los servicios digitales que ofrecen a los trabajadores independientes beneficios para mejorar las protecciones sociales y la productividad. Hoy en día, pensar solo en términos de trabajo asalariado a tiempo completo y contrato indefinido, ignora a los millones de personas que agregan fuentes de ingresos y dan forma a sus vidas mediante una amplia variedad de relaciones laborales no convencionales, que se vienen consolidando en el siglo XXI. El paso del trabajo asalariado tradicional a nuevas modalidades implica que las personas trabajadoras deben reconstruir la estructura laboral necesaria para poder trabajar. Aquí es donde entran los servicios WorkerTech. El concepto que nació en Europa es relevante para América Latina y el Caribe, sobre todo cuando la región está sufriendo mucho el tema de desempleo por la pandemia. El concepto se aplicará también a los trabajadores del sector informal que comparten mucho desafíos de los trabajadores independientes de modalidades modernas.

Extreme rainfall events are expected to become more frequent and more intense in the future. Because their mitigation is a challenge and their cost to human life is large, this paper studies the impact of preemptive investment against natural disasters on the future occurrence of landslides and the losses associated with it. Based on a panel of 746 Colombian municipalities with medium and high risk of landslides and an instrumental variable approach, we find that preemptive public investment can reduce the number of landslides, the number of people who die, are injured, or disappear after a landslide, as well as the number of people affected. However, we do not find any effect on the number of houses destroyed. The results reveal that local governments focus their preventive measures on saving the lives and the physical integrity of their citizens, but they pay less attention to the direct market losses of natural disasters. These results are relevant in the presence of imperfect private insurance markets and increased informal settlements.

La primera sección brinda una descripción general del ecosistema actual, en donde se refleja su crecimiento desde el año 2018, el panorama de la industria, su distribución y alcance en el país, y sus principales indicadores (financiamiento, clientes, usuarios y empresas). El estudio cuenta con la particularidad de haberse realizado en pleno proceso de la crisis sanitaria generada por la pandemia COVID-19, por lo que parte del estudio aborda las áreas de impacto de la crisis en las Fintech, según la visión de los integrantes del ecosistema. La segunda sección aborda un análisis por vertical Fintech, es decir por nueve segmentos de actividad dentro del ecosistema: Préstamos, Pagos digitales, Blockchain & Criptoactivos, Insurtech, Inversiones, Servicios B2B, Financiamiento colectivo, Seguridad informática y Proveedor tecnológico. La tercera sección se centra en el estudio de cuatro temas transversales que atañen a todos los segmentos o sectores. Objectives. Survival rates for pediatric cancer have dramatically increased since the 1970s, and the population of childhood cancer survivors (CCS) exceeds 500,000 in the United States. Cancer during childhood and related treatments lead to long-term health problems, many of which are poorly understood. These problems can be amplified by suboptimal survivorship care. This report provides an overview of the existing evidence and forthcoming research relevant to disparities and barriers for pediatric cancer survivorship care, outlines pending questions, and offers guidance for future research. Data sources. This Technical Brief reviews published peer-reviewed literature, grey literature, and Key Informant interviews to answer five Guiding Questions regarding disparities in the care of pediatric survivors, barriers to cancer survivorship care, proposed strategies, evaluated interventions, and future directions. Review methods. We searched research databases, research registries, and published reviews for ongoing and published studies in CCS to October 2020. We used the authors’ definition of CCS; where not specified, CCS included those diagnosed with any cancer prior to age 21. The grey literature search included relevant professional and nonprofit organizational websites and guideline clearinghouses. Key Informants provided content expertise regarding published and ongoing research, and recommended approaches to fill identified gaps. Results. In total, 110 studies met inclusion criteria. We identified 26 studies that assessed disparities in survivorship care for CCS. Key Informants discussed subgroups of CCS by race or ethnicity, sex, socioeconomic status, and insurance coverage that may experience disparities in survivorship care, and these were supported in the published literature. Key Informants indicated that major barriers to care are providers (e.g., insufficient knowledge), the health system (e.g., availability of services), and payers (e.g., network adequacy); we identified 47 studies that assessed a large range of barriers to survivorship care. Sixteen organizations have outlined strategies to address pediatric survivorship care. Our searches identified only 27 published studies that evaluated interventions to alleviate disparities and reduce barriers to care. These predominantly assessed approaches that targeted patients. We found only eight ongoing studies that evaluated strategies to address disparities and barriers. Conclusions. While research has addressed disparities and barriers to survivorship care for childhood cancer survivors, evidence-based interventions to address these disparities and barriers to care are sparse. Additional research is also needed to examine less frequently studied disparities and barriers and to evaluate ameliorative strategies in order to improve the survivorship care for CCS.

La aparición del COVID-19 va a acelerar un fenómeno que ya estaba presente en la región, y que tiene que ver con una reconfiguración a nivel global del sistema productivo, de las formas de trabajar, de los roles, tareas y ocupaciones, y del modo en que las personas interactúan entre sí en diversos ámbitos. Así, resulta de vital importancia contar con información granular y oportuna de cuáles son los requerimientos del sector productivo en cuanto a la fuerza de trabajo. No obstante, a nivel regional es sumamente escasa la información de la que se dispone acerca de la demanda laboral. La proliferación reciente de portales de empleo on line ofrecen una fuente alternativa de información relativamente abundante, de frecuente actualización, fácil acceso y bajo costo de generación, que puede informar sobre tendencias recientes en el mercado de trabajo. Los datos que se emplean en la presente investigación se generaron a partir de la consolidación de información sobre vacantes publicadas entre septiembre de 2018 y septiembre de 2019 en tres portales de empleo de relevancia en Uruguay. El análisis a partir de las vacantes on line sugiere que Uruguay enfrenta retos en cuanto a la formación y capacitación de sus recursos humanos. Los datos muestran la importancia de la culminación del ciclo de educación media como requisito para participar de las oportunidades que se presentan en el mercado laboral. También existiría espacio para darle mayor impulso a la educación técnico-profesional. Además, el estudio muestra que, a la hora de contratar personal, los empleadores valoran mucho que éstos cuenten con alguna experiencia laboral previa, lo cual es un dato relevante a la hora de diseñar programas y políticas de formación y capacitación laboral.

Resumen
De acuerdo con el mandato constitucional, el Banco de la República debe “velar por mantener el poder adquisitivo de la moneda, en coordinación con la política económica general”. Para cumplir con este mandato, la Junta Directiva del Banco de la República (JDBR) adoptó como estrategia un esquema flexible de inflación objetivo, en el cual las acciones de política monetaria (PM) buscan conducir la inflación a una meta puntual y alcanzar el nivel máximo sostenible del producto y del empleo. La flexibilidad del esquema le permite a la JDBR mantener un balance apropiadoentre el logro de la meta de inflación y el propósito de suavizar las fluctuaciones del producto y el empleo alrededor de su senda sostenible. La JDBR estableció una meta de inflación del 3 %, planteada sobre la variación anual del índice de precios al consumidor (IPC). En el corto plazo la inflación puede ser afectada por factores que están fuera del control de la PM, como por ejemplo cambios en los precios de los alimentos debido a fenómenos climáticos. Para incorporar lo anterior, la JDBR anuncia, junto con la meta, un rango de ±1 punto porcentual (3 ±1 pp), el cual no es un objetivo de la PM, pero refleja el hecho de que la inflación puede fluctuar alrededor de la meta, sin pretender que sea siempre igual al 3 %. El principal instrumento que tiene la JDBR para el control de la inflación es la tasa de interés de política (tasa repo a un día o tasa de interés de referencia). Dado que las acciones de PM toman tiempo en tener un efecto completo sobre la economía y la inflación, para fijar su valor la JDBR evalúa el pronóstico y las expectativas de la inflación frente a la meta, así como el estado actual y las perspectivas sobre la evolución de la economía. La JDBR se reúne una vez al mes, pero solo en ocho meses sesiona de forma ordinaria para tomar decisiones de PM (enero, marzo, abril, junio, julio, septiembre, octubre y diciembre). En los cuatro meses restantes (febrero, mayo, agosto y noviembre) no se toman, en principio, decisiones de este tipo. Al finalizar las Juntas donde se toman decisiones de PM, se publica un comunicado y se hace una rueda de prensa a cargo del gerente general del Banco y el ministro de Hacienda. El siguiente día hábil se publican las minutas de la Junta, donde se describen las posturas que llevaron a adoptar la decisión. Adicionalmente, en enero, abril, julio y octubre se publica, junto con las minutas, el Informe de Política Monetaria (IPM) realizado por el equipo técnico del Banco: el miércoles de la semana siguiente a la Junta el gerente general aclara inquietudes sobre las minutas y el gerente técnico del Banco presenta el IPM. Este esquema de comunicación busca entregar información relevante y actualizada que contribuya a la toma de mejores decisiones por parte de los agentes de la economía.

Esta publicación recoge los mensajes principales del Documento Marco Sectorial de Desarrollo de Habilidades, que tiene como objetivo orientar el trabajo que realiza el Grupo BID junto con los países de América Latina y el Caribe (ALC) en este ámbito. Las habilidades se desarrollan en diferentes grados de intensidad y en diferentes lugares en cada fase del ciclo de vida. Este documento presenta cinco desafíos para el desarrollo de habilidades en cinco etapas clave de la vida: la infancia, la niñez y la preadolescencia, la adolescencia, la juventud y la edad adulta, y ofrece orientación sobre los esfuerzos del Grupo BID para ayudar a los países de ALC a promover el desarrollo de habilidades y el aprendizaje permanente como una estrategia para asegurar que los ciudadanos puedan contribuir productivamente a la sociedad, mejorar su bienestar y ser buenos ciudadanos. Propone cinco líneas de acción: (i) asegurar que las personas tengan acceso equitativo a oportunidades de aprendizaje relevantes y de alta calidad a lo largo de la vida; (ii) fortalecer los mecanismos de aseguramiento de la calidad y pertinencia; (iii) consolidar y desarrollar mejores mecanismos de financiamiento y cofinanciamiento para mejorar la eficiencia, efectividad y cobertura de las oportunidades de desarrollo de habilidades; (iv) aprovechar el uso de la tecnología para aumentar la equidad y el acceso a las oportunidades de desarrollo de habilidades y mejorar la eficiencia de los sistemas de desarrollo de habilidades; y (v) promover activamente la generación y uso de evidencia para informar las decisiones sobre el desarrollo de habilidades.
