Resumen
Students report poor learning goals and study strategies. Educators may encourage better learning by requiring students to complete assessments that promote generative learning. The benefits of engaging in generative processes suggest encouraging them through teaching-to-learn assignments may be helpful. There is little research examining the benefits of teaching-to-learn conducted as part of a classroom curriculum with appropriate control conditions. The current study examines the benefits of teaching-to-learn on conceptual knowledge learning by requiring 53 students to prepare and deliver a lecture in one unit and write a paper in another unit. Students then answered questions covering their lecture and paper topics on both a unit and surprise final exam. Analyses on exams revealed students answered a greater percentage of the questions about their lecture topic correctly (84.91% and 76.23%) than their paper topic (76.98% and 67.92%) on both the unit and final exam respectively.

Resumen
The Indian residential school system is a part of Canada’s dark and ‘hidden’ history. Despite the Indian Residential Schools Settlement Agreement being reached in 2006, the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada (TRC) publishing its final report in 2015, and the further discovery of unmarked graves at former school sites in 2022, many Canadians are still unaware of the atrocities of residential schools and the continued mistreatment of Indigenous peoples throughout what is now known as Canada. This essay explores Fort Albany Residential School, also known as St. Anne’s, in Fort Albany, ON. Using Department of Indian Affairs school files, accessed through the National Centre for Truth and Reconciliation (NCTR), and testimonies by survivors to the TRC, this essay will argue that St. Anne’s was an unsanitary and dangerous environment for Indigenous children because of inadequate funding, overcrowding and malnourishment, and the use of brutal discipline which caused some students to risk their lives in attempt to escape such horrors.

Nuchal cord is the umbilical cord accident least associated with stillbirths. It is a common occurrence; however, the expertise to diagnose multiple and tight loops on ultrasound is minimal, especially in limited-resource settings. We report a 30 year-old gravida 1, who presented at a gestation of 39/40+6/7 with a 2 day history of inability to appreciate foetal movements. An urgent obstetric ultrasound revealed absent foetal cardiac activity, reduced amniotic fluid and normal placenta but the report had no comments on the umbilical cord. She delivered a macerated male infant with a tight cord around the neck thrice. This case report highlights the importance of third trimester sonography screening of umbilical cord abnormalities and the mechanism of intrauterine foetal death associated with umbilical cord accidents.

We witness a dramatic change, in all aspect of Life, throughout the world after Covid-19. It started in Wuhan, Hubei Province, China where few cases of atypical pneumonia presented in late November and early December 2019. Clinical picture mimicking viral pneumonia1. According to an unpublicized report from the Chinese government, the first case can be traced back to 17 November 2019; the person was a 55-year-old citizen in the Hubei province. There were four men and five women reported to be infected in November. The number of coronavirus cases in Hubei gradually increased, reaching 60 by 20 December and at least 266 by 31 December2. A coronavirus was soon identified as the cause of the outbreak and tentatively named as the 2019-nCoV by the World Health Organization. On 11 Feb 2020, the World Health Organization officially named it SARS-CoV-2 (Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus-2) and the SARS-CoV-2 infection was named COVID-19.1 One can easily understand the impact upon routine life just by seeing these numbers; As on 30 Nov 2020, there were 63, 360234 confirmed cases and 1, 475825 confirmed deaths.3

Resumen
ABSTRACT Students learn about the many different aspects of occupational fraud by reading the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners (ACFE) Report to the Nations on Occupational Fraud and Abuse (Report) and applying what they learn to one of two episodes of the television show Mystery Diners, which features an undercover fraud investigation in a restaurant setting. Applying the ACFE Report to a setting generally familiar to students helps them gain insight into occupational fraud. Pre-/post-test and survey results reveal that students significantly increased their knowledge of how occupational fraud is committed and detected, traits of victim organizations, characteristics of perpetrators, and case results (what actions are or are not taken against perpetrators) across two different episodes and two editions of the ACFE Report. Feedback shows students found the case valuable and enjoyable and would find more cases like this beneficial. Instructors can modify the case for other episodes (more than 100 are available) and further editions of the ACFE Report to help students learn about occupational fraud.

Resumen
Absolute beginners rapidly solve several word learning problems after minimal exposure to second language speech. In this article, we report on laboratory research that supports this claim. Explaining second language acquisition is a goal of foundational research. While our findings are consistent with the generativist enterprise, generativists have been content to describe what learners have acquired while avoiding discussion of the ‘how’. We describe a specific generativist approach (the Autonomous Induction Theory) that directly addresses the role of specific learning mechanisms proposed by cognitive psychology. In contrast to alternative non-generative approaches, the Autonomous Induction Theory offers a constrained theory of language acquisition. Both the data from laboratory settings and the theoretical explanations of how adult learners learn have potential implications for language teaching. One should not, however, make teaching recommendations directly from laboratory results. Rather, the findings should be reinterpreted as a research agenda for the classroom, one that recognises its complexities. In this paper, we make several proposals as to how to get from laboratory findings to a classroom-based research agenda.

In a large healthcare organization, individual medical facilities have the opportunity to learn from each other, correcting process vulnerabilities proactively without actually experiencing the error. The work represented here is an effort to capitalize on the size of the VA healthcare system to inform proactive process improvement efforts at VA facilities with reactive event report data from the entire VA system. We seek to do this by mapping event reports to the steps of a process, and examining the parts of sub-processes prone to failure in order to understand how and why it failed. This allows an individual medical facility to learn from previous process failures and make corrections.

Resumen
Unexpected outcomes can reflect noise in the environment or a change in the current rules. We should ignore noise but shift strategy after rule changes. How we learn to do this is unclear, but one possibility is that it relies on learning to learn in uncertain environments. We propose that acquisition of latent task structure during learning to learn, even when not necessary, is crucial. We report results consistent with this hypothesis. Macaque monkeys acquired adaptive responses to feedback while learning to learn serial stimulus-response associations with probabilistic feedback. Monkeys learned well, decreasing their errors to criterion, but they also developed an apparently nonadaptive reactivity to unexpected stochastic feedback, even though that unexpected feedback never predicted problem switch. This surprising learning trajectory permitted the same monkeys, naïve to relearning about previously learned stimuli, to transfer to a task of stimulus-response remapping at immediately asymptotic levels. Our results suggest that learning new problems in a stochastic environment promotes the acquisition of performance rules from latent task structure, providing behavioral flexibility. Learning to learn in a probabilistic and volatile environment thus appears to induce latent learning that may be beneficial to flexible cognition.

Resumen
This study explores political learning among young adults during the 2016 U.S. presidential primary elections. We are interested in how the rise of digital and social media is affecting the ways young adults learn about political events as they happen. Using a rolling cross-section survey design, we surveyed a unique sample of American young adults every day for a period of 3 weeks. This method allows us to ask participants about breaking news events as they occur, and to connect knowledge of current events to self-report of media use during a very short time period. We examine the relationship between media exposure and political learning using both self-report media exposure measures and measures of the volume of attention to political events in the news media and via social sharing of news on Facebook. Results suggest that social media volume, not self-reports of exposure, was key in providing young adults with the opportunities to learn about politics during the 2016 U.S. primary season.

Resumen
Introduction: Disasters occur in all areas of the world and cause harm to populations, property, infrastructure, economies, and the environment.1Harm to populations includes death, injury, disease, malnutrition, and psychological stress.1Social-friction often isn’t recognized during disaster response and recovery. Objective: This report explored the existence of social-friction in disaster situation which able to make recovery more complex. Method: This was qualitative study with phenomenology report approach. The data collection was done by indepth interviewing five inhabitants when doing emergency disaster response two weeks after massive earthquake in North Lombok. Result and discussion: Two out of five inhabitants were Lombok native-people, the rest were immigrant. An inhabitant reported their feeling treated unfair by aid agencies because they received less aid than others. In another chance, when distributing clean-water, we were intercepted, they argue that they got more lack of water than another group who live far distally. Both claimed treated unfair making a dispute friction.Ethnic or social origin, language, religion, gender, age, physical or mental disability, and sexual orientation are just some of the deep-rooted causes of social-friction that can have such a devastating impact on their lives.Social-friction in everyday life rarely endangers lives, but in an emergency situation, it can be life-threatening. It affects not only people’s ability to survive the crisis, also their capacity to recover and regain their livelihoods. Conclusion: Risk reduction and preparedness are just as important a part of the process as any aspect of a disaster.Dialogue is fundamental in good programme design, monitoring and evaluation, and systematic efforts to listen to all groups affected by disaster can help pre-empt and remedy unfair-perception.Perhaps,most importantly, understanding and respecting the complex cultural context in which aid agencies are working and using the strategies and mechanismsto detectand minimize social-friction, will result great improvement in the effectiveness and equity of perceived support in humanitarian assistance.2

Resumen
Recently, a number of researchers have directed their attention to the process of counting, sometimes in connection with studies of problem solving or of addition and subtraction. The emphasis is on identifying how children learn to count or use counting; however, how the ideas children discover on their own might be applied in instruction is the ultimate goal. For instance, children might be led to discover new ideas by examining their own invented strategies.

Doniger, Cynthia L. "What Can We Learn from Idiosyncratic Wage Changes?" Finance and Economics Discussion Series 2021, n.º 055 (12 de agosto de 2021): 1–38. http://dx.doi.org/10.17016/feds.2021.055.

Resumen
I document six facts about wage changes. First, most pay revisions occur at yearly frequency, but a small proportion occur at idiosyncratic times. Second, idiosyncratic pay changes are larger and more dispersed than year-end pay changes and resemble more pay changes occurring at job-to-job transitions. Third, idiosyncratic pay changes are more common for workers with less experience and, fourth, in firms higher on the job-ladder. Fifth, industries in which the incidence of idiosyncratic raises have risen have experienced greater declines in labor share. Sixth, industries in which more firms report willingness to negotiate wages have greater concentrations of idiosyncratic revisions. An on-the-job search model with heterogeneous wage contracts can rationalize these facts.

Resumen
This article reports on the findings of a study investigating the motivation of Bulgarian undergraduates of International Relations to learn English as a second language (L2). First, we consider language learning motivation in the context of three influential theoretical developments in research on motivation. Then, we report on a small-scale survey aiming to define the motivational profile of students of International Relations through the lens of the L2 Motivational Self System. The analysis of the survey data reveals similarities with findings of previous research as regards the favourable attitude towards English language learning, the prominent role of the ideal L2 self in the motivational pattern, and some doubt over the relation between the ought-to L2 self and the intended learning effort. The study results also indicate relations between travel orientation and the ought-to L2 self, and between the two types of instrumental motivation which have not been reported in previous research. These motivation peculiarities are explained through the specifics of the surveyed group that refer to students’ aspirations and potential careers in international relations.

Resumen
Introduction. Melioidosis is a bacterial infection caused by a Gram-negative bacillus Burkholderia pseudomallei, prevalent in Southeast Asia and Northern Australia. Sri Lanka is situated in the endemic belt of melioidosis. Melioidosis has a wide spectrum of clinical presentations and results in high mortality rates in severe infection. Case Report. We report a 54-year-old previously healthy Sri Lankan farmer who presented with septicemia following a cut injury to the right leg while working in a paddy field. Initially, he had mild wound sepsis, and later, his condition deteriorated rapidly. The patient required organ support later for cardiovascular instability, acute liver failure, acute kidney injury, acute respiratory distress syndrome, and coagulopathy. The patient’s blood culture was negative on the admission day, and the repeated blood culture taken at the ICU was contaminated with a commensal flora initially and later isolated Burkholderia pseudomallei. Although wound swab culture taken on the first day isolated an organism, it took six days to identify it as Burkholderia pseudomallei. The patient succumbed to severe melioidosis leading to a severe sepsis and multiorgan failure in spite of treatment with meropenem. Conclusion. This case report highlights the importance of considering melioidosis as a differential diagnosis when a patient comes with risk factors for melioidosis.

Resumen
Introduction Aglossia is a rare condition caused by failure of the tongue embryogenesis process (in the fourth to eighth weeks of gestation). The tongue is an organ used in different activities such as sucking, swallowing, chewing, and talking. It is also responsible for shaping palate dental arches (in its absence, they become atrophic). There are few similar cases reported in the literature. Objective To describe a rare case of aglossia and the multidisciplinary professionals working together for 5 years to treat the patient. Resumed Report An 8-year-old girl with aglossia had an assessment comprising: (1) clinical assessment of the stomatognathic system related to resting posture, tonus, and mobility; (2) orthodontic assessment; (3) surface electromyography of the chewing muscles; (4) swallowing videofluoroscopy. Conclusion The authors confirmed the need of multidisciplinary cooperation to improve the patient's quality of life, because agenesia implicates many activities/functions that depend on the tongue to fully work. Multiprofessional cooperation helps the patient learn compensation mechanisms.

Resumen
Reading plays an important role in widening knowledge and learning languages, but it is also a challenge. Although Vietnamese learners often get higher marks in English reading tests in comparison to other skills, students low motivation to read and their lack of general background knowledge are obvious. This presentation introduces News Report, a blended Extensive Reading - Intensive Reading activity. The process is consisted of four stages: choosing news, summarizing, making a glossary and presenting. The activity is designed with an aim of establishing the reading habit for learners to widen their knowledge and learn the target language simultaneously. As observed, it is unlikely to formulate the reading habit this way but it helps to guide students how to read effectively on their own. Participants will learn a multi-purpose reading activity and know how to apply it on their own or in their classroom.

Resumen
This article reviews the last two IEEE Conference on Computational Intelligence and Games (CIG) StarCraft Artificial Intelligence (AI) Competitions organized by the authors; these were the fourth and fifth in a series of annual competitions initiated in 2011. StarCraft AI Competitions have been hosted in conjunction with three different events: the AAAI Conference on Artificial Intelligence and Interactive Digital Entertainment (AIIDE), CIG, and Student StarCraft AI Tournament (SSCAIT). The purpose of these competitions is to design bots that are able to autonomously and successfully play the StarCraft game by implementing real-time strategies. Recent results reveal the promising use of AI techniques in creating successful AI entries, but there is room for improvement with respect to the bots’ ability to adapt and learn to defeat humans and scripted AI bots.

Resumen
Every BUMDesa business unit is required to provide a monthly report on the organization's finances through the Village-Owned and Operated Management Information System (BUMDesa). Despite the efforts of organizations like BUMDesa, managers still have a limited understanding of how to properly allocate funds using industry-standard accounting methods. The purpose of this work is to provide technical advice for writing a financial report for BUMDesa in Kuantan Singingi Regency. Methodology _ that is, classroom instruction via lectures, labs, and classroom discussions. Preliminary testing, creating a report on finances for the delivered materials, and creating a report on finances for the simulation are all done. Finally, respondents asked for visualizations of financial reports generated by the application's organized use, with the goal of making previously unknown faults and problems transparent. This exercise will help students learn how to write a financial report using accepted accounting principles.
