Abstract People with dementia in nursing homes need their social environment in supporting their autonomy. This study explored how this relational autonomy is supported by staff for residents with dementia during morning care in nursing homes. Structured observations (n=1815) were carried out to assess how resident choice is supported within staff-resident interaction. Observation of morning care consisted of four main categories: ‘getting up’, ‘physical care’, ‘physical appearance’ and ‘breakfast’. In addition, qualitative field notes were taken to support observations. In total, 55 residents

Abstract Interprofessional collaboration is needed to ensure high quality care. Effective programs teaching necessary team-based care skills are under investigation. This study evaluated the Aging in Place program, an interprofessional practice experience (IPE), in preparing pharmacy students for practice with underserved older persons. The Assessment of Interprofessional Team Collaboration Scale (AITCS) and Team Decision Making Questionnaire (TCMQ) were administered to students before and after their experience. This research organizes resident reactions to tourism in the context of a theoretical paradigm based on the principles of social exchange theory. A path model based on social exchange theory principles explains how residents weigh and balance seven factors that influence their support for tourism. The analysis demonstrates that potential for economic gain, use of the tourism resource, ecocentric attitude, and attachment to the community affect resident perceptions of the impacts and modify, both directly and indirectly, resident support for tourism.

OBJECTIVE: To determine what impact, if any, of the recently implemented duty hour standards have had on otolaryngology-head and neck surgery residency programs from the perspective of program directors. We hypothesized that the implementation of resident duty hour limitations have caused changes in otolaryngology training programs in the United States. STUDY DESIGN AND SETTING: Information was collected via survey in a prospective, blinded fashion from program directors of otolaryngology-head and neck residency training programs in the United States. This article estimates the prevalence and identifies risk factors of resident aggression and abuse in assisted living facilities. We conducted multivariate analyses of resident-level data from an analytic sample of 6,848 older Americans in the 2010 National Survey of Residential Care Facilities. Nationwide, 7.6% of assisted living residents engaged in physical aggression or abuse toward other residents or staff in the past month, 9.5% of residents had exhibited verbal aggression or abuse, and 2.0% of resident engaged in sexual aggression or abuse toward other residents or staff. The physical environment of residential health, care, and support facilities (RHCSF) is a critical component in providing supportive and resident-centered care for the elderly. Although past reviews of the literature have focused on specific settings for the elderly or specific residential populations of the elderly, a systematic literature review that covers the range of settings and populations has been lacking. This article provides an overview and synthesis of the most recent empirical evidence addressing the impact of the physical environment on residents and staff of RHCSFs. The review a

Resident participation is crucial to the success of tourism development at community-level destinations. This study examines the effect of residents’ participation on their support for tourism development at the community level through a case study of Gamcheon Culture Village, South Korea. Using the structural equation model (SEM), including the variables of participation of tourism development, community attachment, economic dependence, perceived positive impacts, perceived negative impacts, and attitude toward tourism development, this study found that participation in tourism development si

Abstract Background The emergency medicine milestones were developed to provide more objective resident assessment than current methods. However, little is known about the best practices for applying the milestones in resident assessment. Methods We developed 14 daily ESEs, each of which included 9 or 10 emergency medicine milestones. ABSTRACT Background Clinicians are increasingly sharing outpatient visit notes with patients through electronic portals. These open notes may bring about new educational opportunities as well as concerns to physicians-in-training and residency programs. Objective We assessed anticipatory attitudes about open notes and explored factors influencing residents' propensity toward note transparency. Methods Residents in primary care clinics at 4 teaching hospitals were surveyed prior to implementation of open notes. Abstract Background The Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education requires scholarly activity for both faculty and residents in obstetrics and gynecology (Ob-Gyn). There is little evidence on the most effective method to train, recruit, and retain research faculty who can mentor resident researchers at small programs. Innovation To address this problem, we created the “Baby Steps” program for a small university-based Ob-Gyn program. Abstract With the growth of high-density living, disputes experienced by residents in multi-owned buildings (MOBs) have become an ongoing challenge in urban areas. A significant number of the disputations have found their root cause in the issues concerning improper use and management of MOBs by residents. It stems from their inaccurate understanding of ownership rights that are inherently 3D but using 2D cadastral survey plans, authoritative documents of ownership. This research explores the ability of building information modeling (BIM) to address required information for improving the perce
