Texto completoThe past years there have been vast progresses within the construction industry from traditional construction projection method to a more advanced BIM-projecting method. The results of this dissertation shows that in spite of these vast progresses it is still commonly conducted manual quantity calculations with 2D-drawings. The main reason to this is that when you compare the quantity results from object based 3D models to manual quantity calculation results with 2D-drawing, the results do not add up being equal to each other. Hence time consuming manual quantity calculations with paper drawings has to be conducted to verify the real material quantity. The larger the project, the more time is consumed to conduct manual calculation verification. The aim has been to identify and analyze the different sources of error arising from manual calculation verification. In assistance we used the quantity calculation functions in the software RevitMEP (2014) and MagiCAD (2013.11). To substantiate the results manual calculations were conducted. The results were compared to the manual calculations from 2D drawings, the profit of the method is that we get less reoccurring errors. The gain of this is resulting in fewer recurring of errors. It is important to have a well-structured and clear approach with the use of the various BIM tools. When using the model, there are fewer errors and reduced misunderstandings arise during project planning. Continuous calculation verifications should be implemented as early as possible to allow the discovery of errors. Detecting errors in the early stage will prevent the error from escalating. The study also found a critical programming error in the program MagiCAD for Revit which gives the user false results. The problem has been pointed out to the application developer CADCOM and correction of the program will occur.

Texto completoThis Degree project summarizes how it is to work in the CAD program Revit Architecture. This was done because AQ Arkitekter in Eskilstuna is interested in how Revit works. Especially compared to AutoCad which is the software they are using today. Will their work become more efficient with the new software?
The starting point was to find out how it is to work with Revit when you only used AutoCAD Architecture before. The purpose with this Degree project was to investigate whether it was possible to provide all the drawings required in a construction project that AQ Arkitekter normally produce in AutoCAD.
Most of the study was done on my own with some help of outside contacts. Drawings from an already completed construction projects were produced in Revit to really see if it was possible to obtain the required drawings. The final results were a summary of the Revit features and how to generate drawings. The two programs were compared to see the disadvantages and advantages of the programs. In the end, the Degree project did become a complete report, which gives an overview of Revit and its functions.

Texto completoThe world stands before large challenges when it comes to the environment and today the construction sector has a huge impact on the environment, especially when it comes to carbon dioxide emissions. Two of the most used construction materials today, steel and concrete have shown to bring large amounts of carbon dioxide to the atmosphere and is therefore not the way to go to a sustainable future. Of these three materials, wood is the only renewable construction material and it has a lot less carbon dioxide emissions compared to steel and concrete. Fören 1 in Karlstad is an area where Karlstad municipality is planning to build multi-storey buildings and therefore this area was chosen as a starting point for this thesis. The goal was to size the tallest building with a glulam frame but at the same time follow the vision in the planning program. To make this happen Revit Structure was used to draw the building and Robot Structural Analysis was used for calculations. The building was sized for self-weight, live load, snow load, wind load and fire according to Swedish standards. When Robot Structural Analysis showed the forces, torque etc. which the loads yielded, calculations by hand was used to find the right size for every part of the construction. The result showed that using a glulam frame is a reasonable alternative to other construction materials for the 15-storey tall building which were calculated. This gave at the same time a unique and attractive appearance to the building. The calculated building and two similar buildings were placed on the property and an architectural 3D view was produced.

Texto completoThe technological development is progressing rapidly. The application of BIM (Building Information Modeling) is becoming increasingly common in the construction sector. However, the property management slips behind in the development, in comparison with the early stages of the construction process, the design and production phase. BIM in the property management stage is frequently spoken about but BIM has not yet been implemented to a greater extent. This study aims to examine how digitalized property management is at present times and if the software BIM 360 Ops can be a more efficient alternative. BIM 360 Ops is a software created by Autodesk that targets the property management stage. Through interviews with Diagona AB, Fabege, HSB, Uppsala Kommuns fastighetsaktiebolag (UKFAB), Akademiska Hus, Locum, Stockholmshem and FastPartner, an insight on how these companies are proceeding at present times, which knowledge managers have about BIM and what is lacking in the management stage is brought forward. The software which the respondents use is analyzed in order to gain a greater understanding of different workflow used in the management stage. A detailed approach of the BIM 360 Ops software is demonstrated to show how the software works and to detect any difficulties, advantages and disadvantages of the software. The result shows that none of the interviewees use BIM in the management stage. The companies strive to digitalize the management stage, but has not yet fully accomplished it. There is interest in BIM in the management stage, however, many managers lack knowledge of Building Information Modeling. This study draws attention to the digitalization of the property management stage and presents a thorough study on the BIM 360 Ops software which brings forth BIM in the management stage.

Texto completoBIM (Building Information Modeling) is today a proven concept in construction design. An important strength with BIM is the possibility of coordination between allactors in the project. The BIM tools are based on parameterization, which meansthat the model's object has a large set of data attached to it. The properties ofthe objects can be changed by adjusting the parameter data. Parameterization alsomeans that data can be easily accessed, extracted and controlled by external applications. It is for this purpose that the implementation of graphic programming playsan important role. With the help of graphical programming, several operations inthe BIM work can be automated. Thus, there is the potential to save valuable timefor the construction projector. Autodesk Revit is one of the tools that dominates the BIM market. In Revit, theuser can design and document a construction project in all its phases. For a fewyears back, there is an addition to the program called Dynamo. Dynamo allows theuser to control Revit using scripts in a user-friendly graphical environment. This essay explains Dynamo's possibilities and limitations applied to work processesin building design. It describes the optimization potential and appropriate applications. Conclusions are mainly drawn based upon the generation and evaluation ofgraphical scripts. The result shows that several vital moments in the construction projector's dailywork ow can be rationalized through the introduction of graphic programming. Rationalizationmeans time savings that contribute to increased economic sustainabilityfor the construction company.

Texto completoVolvo Group Trucks Operations manufactures engines, transmissions and trucks to the Groups brands Volvo, Renault, Mack and UD Trucks. Powertrain Production is the production unit within AB Volvo producing diesel engines and engine components. Volvo´s production in Skövde consists of casting, machining and assembly. The foundry uses metals and alloys to produce finished components and parts. The material is stored and retrieved from the factory´s material yard. The material yards growth has occurred uncontrollably through time. Materials have been placed according to feasibility and has created a complex flow. Volvo perceives the area to be unsafe because of the confined space the staff shares with incoming and outgoing traffic. Therefore the logistics are turbid, inefficient and disorganized. The purpose was to perform a current state analysis of the material yard based on the criteria´s layout, employees and vehicles, purchasing and material handling, material flow, work measurement and risk analysis. Subsequently a new proposal was created based on the current state analysis. The methodology was based on interviews and observations. Theory has been studied for the practical implementation of a layout design, analysis of logistics and flow as well as work measurements and a risk analysis have been performed. Revit Architecture has been used to demonstrate the current layout and a concept of a new material yard. Diary was a used tool after each visit. The result of the current state analysis shows that the current layout differs substantially from previous layout. Logistics and material handling shows a high turnover and a complex material flow. Work measurements indicate in unnecessary distances and long waits. The risk analysis strengthened earlier suspicions of an unsafe workplace. The new proposal presents a layout based on "Structure, Efficiency and Security" with a significant reduction in both material handling and traffics inside the material yard. The material yard is an example of a part in the company that has not evolved in line with Volvo´s expansion. This shows an unprioritized part of the business where planning and structure has been neglected. For the material yard it is recommended that Volvo reviews their material activities and tackle their operations from the basis. Through planning, a more efficient production is obtained and thereby improved profitability. It requires that the company is at the forefront of development. Actions should be implemented if the foundry seeks a competitive advantage in Volvo´s operations.

Texto completoMost of the time spent on project planning is dedicated to the development of construction documents, mainly 2D-drawings. A more modern method is to gather all information about a building project in a coordinated 3D-model, so called BIM-model. Building information modelling (BIM) is a well-known design method based on a digital 3D model having enough information to enable procurement work and actual production. The model consists of parameters that represent different properties and when a parameter is changed, the model is updated automatically. These parameters can be accessed and modified through external programs, so called plug-ins that extend the original software’s functionality using program code. Visual programming is a modern programming method which utilizes a visual interface that favours users with little or no experience. Using visual programming, parameter control can be made more efficient and save valuable time. For this reason, Dynamo (a plugin developed by the company Autodesk for Revit), has been studied to create a so-called script that automates 3D modelling processes in Revit linked to placement of reinforcement in pile caps. In addition, possibilities for standardization have been investigated, as well as the advantages and disadvantages of the method. With this project, the potential of Dynamo and the scripts created through an empirical study is described, where a relatively simple case study is carried out in order to illustrate the amount of time saved through visual programming compared to corresponding work manually done in Revit. Furthermore, calculation templates were created, according to the strut and tie model and Eurocode 2, to provide the script in Dynamo with the correct inputs. The result shows that Dynamo and visual programming can make placement of reinforcement in pile caps more efficient. While the degree of efficiency is case dependent, the case study showed an overall 85-90% time saving. A general conclusion suggests that the more complicated rebar designs, the more time there is to be saved. Since visual programming is based on the automation of repetitive processes, there is great potential to standardize structural design with the help of Dynamo scripts. Companies can thus create routines that increase continuity and quality in their projects. The automation also leads to fewer human errors and a more efficient execution. The client is advised to further develop this method by implementing explicit routines regarding 3D modelling with visual programming and investigate the possibilities of automation of reinforcement design in other load-bearing structures.

Texto completoThis graduate work was conducted in cooperation with the VVS-Consultants Skellefteå AB. It deals with the design of a parking garage regarding heat and ventilation and a comparison of ventilation systems in a parking garage that is scheduled to be ready 2019. The purpose of the work is to investigate how to design a parking garage ventilation and if you can save energy and expenses by using demand-controlled ventilation instead of constant ventilation. As it is more expensive to invest in demand- controlled ventilation, it will also investigate the repayment period for that investment. To do the studies, the IDA ICE program has been used to draw a model of the building and simulate its energy use to compare the results later and see the differences between the different ventilation systems. A proposal has been made on how ventilation can be drawn and how the radiators are to be installed and how the pipes are to be drawn. The result of the simulations resulted in total energy consumption decreased by 705,000 kWh / with demand-controlled ventilation compared to constant ventilation. The fan's energy consumption decreased by 75% and the heating energy decreased by 72%. The investment for controlled ventilation compared to constant flow ventilation is 600,000 kr more and, based on the calculations in this work the repayment period is 1 year. The life expectancy of the ventilation system is assumed to be 25-30 years.

Texto completoThe evolution of BIM in the construction business is something that involves major changes for many companies. When new technologies like virtual reality begin to become more prevalent, it can be difficult for companies to keep up with developments. A better understanding of how building information modeling (BIM) focusing on virtual reality in structural engineering and projection will therefore be beneficial for the projection process and thus construction. In order to implement VR, it is first necessary that companies use three-dimensional models (3D) and modeling programs such as Revit or Tekla which is specifically designed for BIM. These types of programs plays a vital role in ensuring that the technology is used in an optimal and a user-friendly way, as constructors have a very time-consuming schedule. In addition, all participants in the project have access to a huge amount of information, where each building component has a linked data such as geometry and material. Something that makes BIM very useful is together with different plugins such as Revit structure analysis or linking timetables and cost with building components from the 3D model to create BIM 5D, where the two D-s represent time and cost. By moving one more step further and integrating VR into the model, you have the opportunity to use buildings in a context that opens up communication bridges and creates an image of projects that are close to reality. With this is mind, in this work, tests have been performed on models to find areas where VR may be useful. Based on the constructors own experiences of design tools in combination with their thoughts and ideas, applications were developed where VR might be useful to constructors. The results of the interviews showed that VR is currently less useful for constructors in smaller project, but that it has its uses in more complex cases where the constructor needs a complement to get a better overall understanding as well as for other participants in a project. For a constructor it is therefore more suited in a project as a review tool and useful in the final stages of a project. However, it may be a tool under the projection process for other parties in projects to increase mutual understanding.

Texto completoThe purpose of this thesis was to produce two alternative architectural designs, of a building, that will house various exhibitions and activities. Mainly those will be culture related; music and arts. The building is to be located in a Swedish lake, called Växjösjön, and the structure is intended to be placed on a floating hull.Initially the authors investigated, and discussed, what possibilities and limitations that were associated with the building. The authors then, separate from one another, created one alternative design each. The first of the two designs found its inspiration in different geometrical shapes, whereas the other was more of an organic design with a smooth and flowing architecture.
