Abstract There has been growing interest in the use of passive harmonic RFIDs for diverse range of applications. Conventional RFIDs are prone to self-jamming and multipath interference, and these challenges can be mitigated using the harmonic RFID design. Recently several harmonic RFID designs have been demonstrated. However, there are many designs related, packaging and intellectual property challenges associated with new tag designs. It has been well known that conventional RFIDs produce harmonic content, which is typically suppressed to reduce background noise. Previous experiments have demonstrated that the harmonics generated by conventional RFIDs can be utilized to enhance their performance. In this paper, an RFID chip is characterized for the generation of harmonic frequencies. This is carried out by designing a high frequency board that contains calibration structures along with structures to characterize the RFID chip using a one port network. An equivalent model is then developed, which in turn is used to design a dual band antenna that works at the fundamental and harmonic frequencies. In addition, the conventional RFID interrogator is modified to accommodate the measurement of harmonics generated by the RFIDs. A complete harmonic tag system is designed and implemented, and an example application of harmonic RFID is demonstrated. Here, the harmonic RFID tag is used in an industrial setting where there is large clutter (large reflections from metal structures).

This paper examines attitudes towards Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology and explores the wider concerns of the ever increasing prospect of social tagging. Capturing vignettes and narratives from a sample of study participants, the paper highlights concerns about adopting RFID implements now and in the future. The views captured through qualitative methodology act as the platform for a wider argument concerning the human rights and privacy intrusion concerns over IT applications. Intended as an insight into the reality of technology impact, this paper lists a series of questions for leaders to consider over matters of human rights specifically concerning RFID adoption. The authors conclude that caution, naivety and fear are the underlying reasons for society accepting RFIDs without question and that RFIDs will be a part of everyday working and domestic life in the near future.

The world’s oil and gas is transported using a network of steel pipelines most of which lie underground. The length of this network in the US/Canada alone is 3.5 million kilometers. Keeping track of pipes in such a network for pipeline-health monitoring, maintenance, and logistics is an acute problem faced by pipeline-operators. Recently, radio-frequency-identification tags (RFIDs) have been proposed for tracking pipelines and even for monitoring pipeline health with additional built-in sensors. Low-cost RFID tags are wirelessly powered and battery-less. However, RFIDs do not function optimally in the presence of magnetic carbon steel pipes that are prevalent in the industry. High-frequency wireless signals also attenuate rapidly through wet soils. In this research, the use of passive RFID sensor platforms for interrogating buried pipes up to 1.25 m deep in the LF bands is proposed. Using magnetic-induction-based communication, a test-comparison between conventional full/half duplex (FDX/HDX) and sequential (SEQ) RFID schemes is detailed. Wireless measurements in the presence of an industry-standard ASTM A-53 carbon-steel pipe show a SEQ RFID offering better immunity against magnetic proximity effects of the pipe’s wall with an 8.3 dB (x6.8) improvement over a FDX/HDX RFID operating under similar conditions over a distance of 80–125 cm at which pipes are typically buried.

There will be increasing demand for high confidentiality, integrity, authentication, for widely deployment of the next RFID generation beside that, the focus will be on avoiding encryption algorithms; as these require more complex modulation, to secure communication between RFID’s tags and readers. In this paper, the focus will be on securing the communication channel between tags and readers at the physical layer, rather than to secure the contents of RFIDs data by encryption. The RFID reader initially will communicate with the tag through a narrowband communication and subsequently through broadband communication, by generating ultra wide-band signal using pulse position modulation with time hopped, it can be a novel approach for RFID security as it simplify or eliminate cryptographic requirements with the same security level of existing passive RFIDs, also it allow simultaneous multiple access without-collision, which will enhance the overall RFID systems performance. The design of the system will be shown by modeling the communication, the designing details of the transmitter as well as the receiver, finally showing the simulated results of modulated signal with its specific parameters as well as the receiver performance.

Purpose In the past decade, radio frequency identification devices (RFIDs) have attracted the attention of the construction industry, having been proven to be an effective technology for addressing operational challenges in other industries such as health-care, retail and manufacturing. Despite the benefits, the use of RFID in construction industry is limited even in the face of inefficiencies that exist and that the need for improvement is yet to drive the widespread adoption in the residential/commercial construction industry. The purpose of this study is to investigate key drivers and critical success factors for RFID adoption. Design/methodology/approach The study included extensive and systematic literature review, interviews and questionnaire survey. Findings The study revealed that the most important key driver for RFID adoption is productivity improvement, while the most important critical success factors include management support and commitment, having clear RFID strategy, needs and benefits, having strong motivation for improvement, providing adequate funding and proper planning. Practical implications This study provides an exploratory framework that can be used by construction company executives and managers to provide justification for deciding to implement RFID on their projects and to enhance success rates of implementation. Originality/value This study contributes to the knowledge on RFID use in residential/commercial construction industry and provides a basis for further investigation by construction management researchers on the emerging issues regarding RFID use in the construction industry.

The purpose of this study is to describe a methodology to assess the financial viability of radio frequency identification (RFID) applications and the main contributions of this technology. The impact of RFID technology on supply chain processes was assessed using an Internal Rate of Return analysis. An extensive, six-month discussion and refinement process with the logistics and supply chain managers of the company under study was conducted to validate the procedure and to collect the necessary data. Such technology enables inventory control, tracking of parts/products and customer satisfaction. The viability of using RFID technology for inventory control and product tracking was confirmed. Among the benefits obtained: the reduction of one worker from the inventory team, reduction in the costs for replacing a component and reduction in the costs incurred with defective components were found. This is one of the few attempts to quantify RFDI technology’s contribution.Keywords: Economic Engineering. RFID. Radio Frequency Identification. Financial Viability Analysis. Internal Rate Of Return. Abstract: Increased protection of resource-constrained devices, such as radio frequency identification (RFID) systems, is in high demand these days. For high-resource desktop PCs, current encryption techniques are sufficient. Access control systems, transaction banking systems, and payment systems are all examples of high-security applications where RFID technology are used. The attacker tries to deceive RFIDs in order to gain illegal access to services without paying for them or to get around security measures by detecting a secret password. The most difficult problem with RFID systems is ensuring effective protection against such infringements. For RFID systems, lightweight cryptography can give security assurance. SLIM is a novel ultralightweight cryptography technique for RFID devices presented in this paper. Since block ciphers are the most commonly used cryptographic and provide highly strong protection for IoT devices, SLIM is a 32-bit block cipher based on the Feistel structure. The most difficult aspect of creating a lightweight block cipher is balancing performance, cost, and security. SLIM, like all symmetric block ciphers, encrypts and decrypts using the same key. The suggested method performs well in both hardware and software contexts, has a small implementation footprint, a reasonable cost/security ratio for RFID devices, and is energyefficient. SLIM has shown high immunity to the most successful linear and differential cryptanalysis assaults, as well as a substantial margin of defense against them.

The ubiquity of illumination facilities enables the versatile development of Visible Light Communication (VLC). VLC-based research achieved high-speed wireless access and decimeter-level indoor localization with complex equipment. However, it is still unclear whether the VLC is applicable for widely-used battery-free Internet-of-Things nodes, e.g., passive RFIDs. This paper proposes LightSign, the first cross-technology system that enables passive RFID tags to receive visible light messages. LightSign is compatible with commercial protocols, transparent to routine RFID communications, and invisible to human eyes. We propose a pseudo-timing instruction to achieve microsecond-level light switching to modulate the VLC message. To make it perceptible to passive RFIDs, we design an augmented RFID tag and prove its effectiveness theoretically and experimentally. With only one reply from an augmented tag, LightSign can decode 100-bit-long VLC messages. We evaluate LightSign in real industry environments and test its performance with two use cases. The results show that LightSign achieves up to 99.2% decoding accuracy in varying scenarios.

Residual feed intake (RFI) gained attention as a potential alternative to the feed conversion ratio (FCR). Thus, this study aimed to estimate genetic parameters for different feed efficiency (FE) traits (FCR, RFI1 to RFI5) and their genetic correlation to on-test daily weight gain (ADG), backfat (BFT), loin muscle area (LMA), lean percentage (LP), and total feed intake (FI) for 603 Male Duroc (DD), 295 Landrace (LL), and 341 Yorkshire (YY). The common spatial pen effect was also estimated in these traits. Five RFI measures were estimated by regressing daily feed intake on initial testing age (ITA), initial testing weight (IBW), and ADG for RFI1; other models were the same as RFI1 except for additional BFT for RFI2; LMA for RFI3; BFT and LMA for RFI4; BFT, LMA, and average metabolic body weight (AMBW) instead of IBW for RFI5. Genetic parameters estimated using two animal models and the REML method showed moderate heritability for FCR in all breeds (0.22 and 0.28 for DD, 0.31 and 0.39 for LL, 0.17 and 0.22 for YY), low heritability for the majority of RFI measures in DD (0.15 to 0.23) and YY (0.14 to 0.20) and moderate heritability for all RFI measures in LL (0.31 to 0.34). Pen variance explained 7% to 22% for FE and 0% to 9% for production traits’ phenotypic variance. The genetic correlation revealed that selection against less complex RFI1 in DD and LL and RFI2 in YY would bring the most advantageous reduction to FI (0.71 for DD, 0.49 for LL, 0.43 YY) without affecting ADG in all breeds (0.06 for DD, −0.11 for LL, 0.05 for YY), decrease in BFT, and increase in LP in DD (0.51 in BFT, −0.77 in LP) and LL (0.45 in BFT, −0.83 in LP). Therefore, inclusion of these breed-specific RFI measures in the future selection criteria would help improve feed efficiency in the swine industry.

There are billions of motor vehicles in the world. Vehicles can only enter if the reader detects a valid RFID tag on the door. An account is kept in the central database for each valid RFID tag. It allows us to monitor and save the time of entry and exit of the vehicle. An Android app is provided to guide the user. In many industrial sectors, the use of RFID in closed systems is evolving. To be implemented in global supply chains, all aspects related to RFID need to be standardised. By collecting, processing and distributing information efficiently, organisations should be able to improve the efficiency of their transport logistics processes, lower their operational costs, and improve their portfolio of logistics services. This case study describes the current perspectives, challenges and benefits of RFID applications in manufacturing industry. Automated, remote and wireless identification is a basic element in implementing efficient management systems in the supply chain. The most important identification techniques are barcode and RFID. Barcode is currently the most widely used method for the identification of parcels, but RFID is more suitable for automated identification for many different reasons including better readability and enhanced environmental durability. By reducing manual work and errors, RFID generates cost savings, increased productivity and efficiency of processes. There is a wide range of different RFID technologies that have varying reading ranges, protocols and data contents. There are two different approaches to using RFID tags and numbering the items to be identified. Recent standardisation developments have started to resolve the interoperability problems in the field of RFID identification.

Teknologi berkembang sangat pesat beberapa tahun terakhir terutama pada teknologi berbasis Radio Frequency Identification Device (RFID). Hal ini disebabkan oleh banyaknya kebutuhan yang menggunakan teknologi. Pemanfaatan sistem RFID di Indonesia sebagian besar masih menggunakan perangkat keras RFID seperti transponder RFID dan RFID reader module yang dibeli dari negara lain seperti Cina atau negeri lainnya. Industri di Indonesia yang menggunakan RFID juga rata-rata masih membeli dan tidak memproduksi sendiri. Dari masalah yang ada, maka adanya peluang untuk memproduksi perangkat RFID ini baik transponder RFID maupun modul pembaca transponder RFID yang mirip dengan RFID yang sudah ada. Dalam penelitian ini dilakukan pembuatan modul pembaca transponder RFID dengan tahapan yang dimulai dari membuat skematik rangkaian modul pembaca transponder RFID, membuat layout PCB, mencetak PCB sesuai desain PCB, melakukan assembly komponen dengan menggunakan solder manual, dan melakukan pengujian. Hasil pengujian fungsi menunjukkan bahwa modul pembaca transponder RFID yang dibuat hanya bisa membaca kartu RFID dengan jarak tapping maksimal pada jarak 7 mm, sedangkan modul pembaca transponder RFID yang di pasaran bisa membaca kartu RFID dengan jarak tapping bisa lebih dari 7 mm.

AbstrakRancangan ini bertujuan untuk merancang prototipe sistem identifikasi stasiun kereta api yang dilewati sebuah kereta menggunakan RFID dan mikrokontroler AT89S51. Dulu Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) terdiri dari RFID reader dan RFID transponder sebagai perangkat identifikasi stasiun kereta api. RFID reader memancarkan frekuensi tertentu untuk mengidentifikasi RFID transponder. Di sisi lain, RFID transponder akan menerima sinyal dari frekuensi RFID reader, dan kemudian mengirim data identitas unik untuk RFID reader. Data identitas yang dibaca akan diproses dan ditransmutasikan oleh mikrokontroler, lalu mengubahnya menjadi informasi data nama stasiun kereta api. Dari hasil pengujian, terlihat bahwa sistem RFID digunakan dalam aplikasi ini telah membaca tentang kisaran 4,05 cm. Mengidentifikasi data dari setiap tag yang telah diolah menjadi data nama stasiun kereta api yang menginformasikan kepada penumpang melalui teks dan suara. Teks ditampilkan dengan LCD M1632, sementara suara yang disiarkan melalui pengolahan perangkat suara ISD 2560 terhubung dengan speaker. It used Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) consist of RFID reader and RFID transponder as a railway station identification devices. RFID reader transmits certain frequency to identify RFID transponder. In the other side, RFID transponder will receive frequency signal from RFID reader, and then send the unique identity data to RFID reader. This readable identity data will processed and transmuted by microcontroller, then changed it to be information data of railway station’s name. From testing results, it showed that the RFID system used in this application have read range about 4,05 cm. Identity data of each tag had been processed to be data of railway station’s name which informed to passengers through text and sound. Text is displayed with LCD M1632, while the sound is broadcasted through sound processing device ISD 2560 connected with speaker. The aim of this post is to point out the use of RFID robots in the management of logistics processes. RFID technology is defined first. RFID technology represents identification using radio frequency waves. The principle is to store the necessary data in radio frequency memory chips and then repeatedly read or write the data using a reader. We divide RFID chips into active and passive. Active RFID chips use energy from a battery, while passive RFID chips are a technology without an internal power source. Passive RFID is the most common form of RFID in warehouses, using which inventory is taken using RFID robots or hand-held RFID readers. Nowadays, many RFID robots from different manufacturers are available on the market. When choosing, I must consider where we want to use the RFID robot and choose the one that suits us based on its specific characteristics. The RFID robot is a mobile and autonomous RFID system that performs an inventory of the given space based on our initial setup. The RFID robot locates each item in 2 dimensions (x and y). Most robots can move in all directions because they can rotate without shifting. The accuracy of the inventory using the RFID robot ranges from 95-99%, while the accuracy of the inventory performed by employees using handheld RFID readers ranges from 85-95%. As for speed, it is on average 10 times faster compared to manual RFID readers.

Future technologies and applications for the Internet of Things (IoT) will evolve the process of the food supply chain and create added value of business. Radio frequency identifications (RFIDs) and wireless sensor networks (WSNs) have been considered as the key technological enablers. Intelligent tags, powered by autonomous energy, are attached on objects, networked by short-range wireless links, allowing the physical parameters such as temperatures and humidities as well as the location information to seamlessly integrate with the enterprise information system over the Internet. In this paper, challenges, considerations and design examples are reviewed from system, implementation and application perspectives, particularly with focus on intelligent packaging and logistics for the fresh food tracking and monitoring service. An IoT platform with a two-layer network architecture is introduced consisting of an asymmetric tag–reader link (RFID layer) and an ad-hoc link between readers (WSN layer), which are further connected to the Internet via cellular or Wi-Fi. Then, we provide insights into the enabling technology of RFID with sensing capabilities. Passive, semi-passive and active RFID solutions are discussed. In particular, we describe ultra-wideband radio RFID which has been considered as one of the most promising techniques for ultra-low-power and low-cost wireless sensing. Finally, an example is provided in the form of an application in fresh food tracking services and corresponding field testing results.

Abstract The meaning of Cyber Physical Systems and an Internet of Things with indication of RFID position in those concepts was outlined. Research program related to assessment of RFID technology was presented. Author deducted on problems related to RFID implementations and RFID essentially for logistics of manufacturing companies. Research goals and problems were formulated. Tools, techniques, models and methods that could be utilized were proposed and discussed. Research was focused on design of a new method to support early decision making phases for RFID application in logistics of manufacturing companies. Author stated that literature and practice lacks of complex method to answer if RFID is strategically important for the company, which processes should be RFID-supported, how RFID-supported processes should be designed and if RFID-support is rational. Framework for assessment of RFID technology with illustrative example was discussed.

Many technologies, such as Radio Frequency Identification (RFID), have been developed to keep pace with rapid changes in society. Additionally, an RFID tag can be integrated with a sensor or actuator (a smart RFID), they can comprise a sensitive wireless network. The potential and utility of smart RFID techniques have increased dramatically. However, based on the distinctive characteristics of RFID and sensors/actuators, they cannot be combined simultaneously using commercial RFID techniques and materials such as poly phenylene sulfide (PPS). Conversely, smart RFID systems will be exposed to harsh environments, including temperature variations, salt corrosion, and violent impact. The current polymeric RFID packaging technique cannot withstand severe environmental conditions for a long period. This study presents a novel integrated packaging technique for sensors and RFID that is fully compatible with the complementary metal-oxide-semiconductor (CMOS) processes to identify the limitations of traditional RFID packaging methods. After several tests in harsh environments, such as strength, corrosion resistance, thermal stress, and simulated washing, the RFID and sensor operated normally. Therefore, the novel encapsulation process for RFID integrated with a sensor overcomes the bottleneck of conventional RFID packaging techniques. The potential of this novel technique is significant and provides a new approach as it achieves high performance and at a low cost. Furthermore, the proposed new technique should prove very useful in applications as smart RFID areas.

The initial objective of RFID was identication of objects. Early applications of RFID systems include tracking systems for farm animals, library items, and airport baggage. Over the years, RFID tags have become more powerful and are used in applications that require more than mere identification.

The purpose of this research is to know the influence of the media barrier in the form of iron, aluminium, marble, glass, wood, and acrylic, to prove the influence of position of laying on tags that tilted and upright against a range of active RFID readout and passive. Knowing the shape of the radiation pattern between active and passive RFID. The most media give influence on the range of active RFID is aluminium which resulted 2.38 and the lowest media gives influence on the range of active RFID is wood which resulted 10.21 m. Whereas in passive RFID, the most media give influence on the range of passive RFID is Aluminium which resulted 0 cm and the lowest media give influence on the range of passive RFID is acrylic which resulted 42.7 cm. in testing about the influence of laying on the position of the tags obtained that in Active RFID or RFID passive can be inferred that the laying position tags give influence on the range of readings on the position of the direction of Y,-Y,-X. X.

Keamanan pada server data diperlukan untuk mengamankan semua data yang dimiliki oleh suatu instansi. Pengembangan akses keamanan ke ruang server juga perlu ditingkatkan untuk melindungi semua data yang dimiliki oleh instansi tersebut. Pada penelitian ini, peneliti merancang suatu alat keamanan dimana pengguna yang mengakses ke ruang server harus melewati sistem keamanan doorlock yang berbasis IoT (Internet of Things). Sistem keamanan doorlock ini menggunakan teknologi RFID yang selanjutnya data yang diakses diproses oleh raspberry untuk mengirimkan data pengakses ke web server. Hasil perancangan sistem keamanan server akses doorlock ke ruang server dengan teknologi RFID berbasis IoT pada proyek NEW UNJANI pada jarak maksimal 2 cm antara RFID tag dengan RFID dengan tingkat keberhasilan pembacaan RFID reader ke RFID tag 100%. Pengujian selanjutnya RFID tag diberikan media lain, yaitu dompet dan cover card yang pengujiannya mendapatkan persentasi keberhasilan 100%. Dengan hasil tersebut, peneliti kembali menguji 3 buah RFID tag yang memiliki jenis berbeda. Setiap RFID tag dilakukan pengujian 50 kali, sehingga total dilakukan pengujian sebanyak 150 kali. Untuk pengujian RFID tag pertama mendapatkan persentasi kegagalan sebesar 26%. Untuk pengujian RFID tag kedua mendapatkan persentasi kegagalan sebesar 20%. Untuk pengujian RFID tag ketiga mendapatkan persentasi keberhasilan sebesar 100%.

With the increase in global trade and the intensification of market competition, the importance of supply chain management is becoming more and more obvious. Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology emerged as the times required, bringing a new solution to supply chain management. This article will discuss the application analysis of RFID in supply chain management. The article mainly analyzes the environmental benefits of RFID technology; RFID application analysis based on the clothing industry and the application of RFID technology in inventory management of companies. The results of the study pointed out that although there are still some difficulties in the application of RFID technology, RFID technology has indeed effectively improved the efficiency of the supply chain. Moreover, the development trend of RFID is getting better and better, and the RFID technology has gradually lowered the application threshold standard as more people invest in research. RFID ultimately brings more benefits to enterprises and society. Therefore, this paper proposes to increase investment in the application of RFID technology in the supply chain. This article aims to provide decision-making guidance and reference significance for enterprises using RFID technology.

RFID is a new technology that is quickly gaining ground in healthcare industry. RFID is being used in many areas of healthcare from asset tracking to patient care to access control. The objective of this article is to provide an extensive survey of existing literature to identify various applications of RFID in healthcare and ascertain how healthcare industry can gain long-term benefits of RFID technology. Findings indicate that RFID is being used in variety of healthcare applications. Findings indicate that effective use of RFID in healthcare requires various enablers, most important of which is the government support to use of RFID in healthcare. There also exist ethical/cultural issues related to RFID implementation that require close collaboration among RFID products manufactures and healthcare providers. This article also provides several recommendations for healthcare industry in order gain competitive advantage from the use of RFID technology.

RFID concepts have been evolving for more than fifty years, nevertheless it was until the last decade that this technology settled as one of the leading commercial solutions being applied on, for example tracking, access management and document registration applications, among others. This technology has brought many benefits to the users, like automation processes, inventory time reduction and information transmission reliability. However, before commercializing the RFIDs, test and characterization procedures must be executed in order to provide the correct information to the user. Unfortunately, lack of characterization methodology standards, high cost and high-complexity test equipment are recurrently dis-advantages. This work presents an RFID characterization methodology that uses a low-cost and handy RF signal platform for Electronic Product Code (EPC) time extraction.

Pada penelitian ini dilakukan evaluasi keandalan RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) pada sistem keamanan pintu ruangan berbasis sistem mikrokontroler. Evaluasi dilakukan untuk mengetahui sejauh mana modul RFID dapat membaca RFID Tag Card yang terdapat barrier berbahan dasar plastik. Perancangan dan implementasi prototype sistem keamanan pintu ruangan terdiri dari modul RFID MFRC522, RFID Tag Card, mikrokontroler ATMEGA328, liquid crystal display (LCD), solenoid door lock dan power supply. Pengujian dilakukan dengan cara RFID Tag Card dilapisi dengan plastik mika. Terdapat 3 ukuran ketebalan plastik mika yang akan diuji yaitu 0,12 mm; 0,23 mm; 0,35 mm dimana ukuran ketebalan tersebut telah diukur menggunakan mikrometer sekrup. RFID Tag Card yang telah dilapisi oleh plastik mika tersebut akan di-scan oleh RFID Reader dengan jarak 1 cm dalam posisi sejajar. Pengambilan data dilakukan sebanyak 30 kali setiap 15 detik untuk RFID Tag Card yang terdaftar dan tidak terdaftar. Dari hasil evaluasi tersebut, diperoleh bahwa modul RFID MFRC522 dapat membaca RFID Tag Card meskipun terhalang oleh benda berbahan dasar plastik (plastik mika) dengan persentase keberhasilan sebesar 100%.

Radio frequency identification (RFID) is a new material identification technology. RFID has a greater number of benefits than its predecessor, the bar code. It is not universally adopted in many industries due to its high cost hitherto. Whereas, RFID is advantageous because it does not require line-of-sight scanning, it acts to reduce labor levels, enhances visibility, and improves inventory management. This article briefly introduced component, principle and characteristic of the RFID technology, and analyzed and introduced more foregroundful application of RFID in modern logistics. RFID technology is combined with network technical and database technology, it will be extensively applied in stock tache, storage tache, transportation tache, retail tache of logistics system. In addition, this paper also discussed the factors which restrain RFID technology from being broadly applied. The uppermost problem faced by RFID technology is the cost of RFID chip, then it comes to the potential intervention of people’s privacy incurred by the use of RFID technology. Otherwise, lack of uniform criteria definitely affects the development of RFID technology.

Fast and reliable identification of Radio Frequency Indentification (RFID) tags by means of anticollision (MAC) protocols has been a problem of substantial interest for more than a decade. However, improvements in identification rate have been slow, as most solutions rely on sequential approaches that try to avoid collisions, which have limited margin for performance improvement. Recently, there has been growing interest in concurrent techniques that exploit the structure of collisions to recover tag IDs. While these techniques promise substantial improvements in speed, a key question that remains unaddressed is how to deal with noise or interference that might introduce errors in the recovery process at the reader. Our goal in this paper is to consider a noisy wireless channel and add robustness to concurrent RFID identification techniques. We propose a new protocol, called CIRF (Concurrent Identification of RFids), which uses multiple antennas to add robustness to noise and leverages block sparsity-based optimization to recover EPC IDs of transmitting tags. We include fail-safe methods to handle errors that persist after the optimization stage. Extensive simulations show that CIRF achieves substantial resilience improvement in a range of very low to medium Signal-to-Noise (SNR) situations, being able to always correctly recover 99% of tags.

Pengelolaan bisnis jasa logistik memiliki tantangan untuk menekan biaya produksi tanpa harus mengorbankan aspek pelayanan. Pendekatan yang bisa digunakan untuk menghadapi dan tantangan tersebut adalah dengan menggunakan Teknologi Informasi dan Komunikasi (TIK). Salah satu bentuk aplikasi dari TIK adalah penggunaan Radio Frequency Identification (RFID). Teknologi RFID telah diterapkan diberbagai bidang. Sifat penelitian ini merupakan kajian pustaka yang terkait dengan penerapan RFID. Skenario penerapan RFID menggunakan pendekatan analisis investasi berdasarkan data sekunder yang dimiliki oleh perusahaan. Penelitian ini menganalisis perbandingan antara penggunaan RFID dan non RFID. Metode dalam penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan analisis investasi dengan metode Net Present Value (NPV). Hasil perhitungan menunjukkan bahwa RFID menghasilkan efisiensi jam tenaga kerja sebesar 50%. RFID juga mampu efisiensi biaya sebesar 71%. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa RFID layak untuk diterapkan diperusahaan jasa logistik dengan pertimbangan investasi dan manfaat.

This paper explores the benefit and barriers of RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) technology adoption in Indonesian hospitals context. The investigation methods of this research used interview and semi-structured questionnaire on RFID consultants, RFID researchers, and big hospital managers in Java Island. The benefits and barriers of RFID technology adoption are identified from literature review. The barriers of RFID technology adoption are divided into two aspects, i.e., as business and technology aspects. The results of this study suggest that the benefits of RFID technology adoption are dominated of intangible benefit. Most of the respondents believed that the main barriers of RFID technology adoption are (1) the complexity of RFID technology (2) the lack of complete and valid information, and (3) there is no sufficient budget available. The detail of the outcomes and the implications of this reasarch are also discussed. Abstract in Bahasa Indonesia: Makalah ini berupaya mengeksplorasi manfaat dan hambatan dari pengadopsian teknologi RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) dalam konteks rumah sakit di Indonesia. Metode investigasi dari penelitian ini menggunakan wawancara dan kuesioner semi-struktur untuk konsultan, peneliti teknologi RFID dan manajer rumah sakit berkatagori besar di Pulau Jawa. Manfaat-manfaat dan hambatan-hambatan dari pengadopsian teknologi RFID telah diidentifikasi dari studi literatur. Hambatan dari pengadopsian teknologi RFID dibagi menjadi dua (2) aspek yaitu hambatan dari aspek bisnis dan teknologi. Temuan dari studi ini meyakini bahwa manfaat dari pengadopsian teknologi RFID didominasi oleh manfaat yang bersifat intangible. Sebagian besar responden meyakini bahwa hambatan utama dari pengadopsian teknologi RFID adalah: (1) kompleksnya teknologi RFID, (2) ketiadaan informasi yang lengkap dan valid, (3) tidak tersedianya anggaran yang cukup. Radio frequency identification (RFID) is a growing technology for monitoring and recognizing objects, persons, or animals via wireless communications. Precisely, RFID can operate longer range and has an ability to be automated without human control. Chipless RFID tag basically is a RFID tag that does not require a microchip in the transponder. The major impediments in designing chipless RFID tag are data encoding and transmission. The passive chipless RFID tag can be fabricated on any substrate material without external operating circuit, which is different compared to a conventional chipped RFID tag. In this paper, 20 resonators are used to design a 20-bit chipless RFID tag, which operates at the ultra-wideband (UWB) frequency range between 3.00 and 10.00 GHz. It is found that the additional resonators can encode data and increase the chipless RFID tag's encoding capacity significantly. In sum, multiple resonators enable the chipless RFID tag to encode data at different operating frequencies.

Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) is a highly beneficial technological advancement which could eventually change the way of doing business. However, the difficulty in assessing the potential benefits of RFID has been delayed RFID related investment decisions within organizations. Especially, time lag, or payback time from RFID investment, has been one of key barriers in RFID investment. This study provides a conceptual framework for time lags in RFID to enhance the understanding of RFID pay-offs. Time lags are determined by IT type and a firm’s IT capability. Therefore, it takes longer for firms to realize the value of RFID since it requires more efforts and changes to implement and utilize. Also the expected time lags of RFID may be modified by the level of IT capability of each firm. The stronger IT capability the firm has, the shorter time lags the firm experiences.

Ten years have passed since Wal-Marts public announcement about its RFID technology adoption plan in 2003. Some large competitors of Wal-Mart in the U.S. retail industry jumped on the trend of RFID technology adoption. However, there has been a slowdown of RFID technology adoption since 2008. Many U.S. retailers do not consider adopting RFID technology because of the uncertainty of return on investment and the lack of business cases demonstrating its profitability or efficiency. This study investigates whether RFID companies have better financial performance ratios in the U.S. retail supply chains. RFID retailers have significantly lower days-in-inventory and lower per-employee costs. Compared with pre-RFID, the RFID retailers do not improve profit ratios after they adopted it, but their days-in-inventory ratio and sales efficiency improve significantly. Panel data regression analyses show that inventory management efficiency does impact gross margins, but the impact of cost efficiency is negligible. RFID retailers have a positive relationship with gross margin increases. In summary, it could be stated that introducing RFID improves inventory management efficiency but we do not know yet if RFID technology adoption also contributes to profitability in U.S. retail industry.

งานวิจัยนี้นำเสนอระบบควบคุมการใช้น้ำแบบเติมเงินผ่าน RFID ควบคุมโดยไมโครคอนโทรลเลอร์และมีการแจ้งเตือนผู้ใช้น้ำผ่านหลอดแอลอีดีสำหรับหอพักหรืออพาร์ทเม้นท์ วัตถุประสงค์ของงานวิจัยนี้คือเพื่ออำนวยความสะดวกให้กับเจ้าของหอพักหรืออพาร์ทเม้นท์ ไม่ต้องบักทึกค่าปริมาณการใช้น้ำในแต่ละห้องและลดปัญหาการเสียค่าปรับของผู้พักอาศัยกรณีจ่ายค่าน้ำล่าช้า โดยระบบจะประกอบด้วย 2 ส่วน คือส่วนเครื่องเติมเงินเข้าบัตร RFID และ ส่วนเครื่องควบคุมการใช้น้ำ ซึ่งการทำงานของระบบนั้นจะใช้บัตร RFID เป็นตัวกลางในการสื่อสารระหว่างเครื่องเติมเงินเข้าบัตรและส่วนควบคุมการใช้น้ำ โดยระบบนี้จะต้องทำการเติมเงินลงบัตร RFID และนำบัตรนี้มาทาบกับส่วนควบคุมการใช้น้ำ เพื่อเปิดระบบให้สามารถใช้น้ำได้ ประสิทธิภาพของระบบที่นำเสนอถูกทดสอบโดยทำการทดสอบการทำงานของระบบทั้งระบบ ตั้งแต่การเติมเงินลงในบัตร การนำบัตรไปเปิดระบบเพื่อใช้น้ำ จนกระทั่งระบบปิดการใช้น้ำเมื่อเงินในระบบหมด พบว่าระบบสามารถทำงานได้อย่างถูกต้อง นอกจากนี้ประสิทธิภาพของระบบที่นำเสนอถูกทดสอบโดยการเปรียบเทียบการใช้น้ำผ่านระบบที่นำเสนอกับกับการใช้น้ำผ่านมิเตอร์น้ำทั่วไป โดยทำการทดสอบจำนวน 5 ครั้ง พบว่าปริมาณน้ำที่ใช้ผ่านระบบควบคุมที่นำเสนอมีค่าเท่ากันกับปริมาณน้ำที่ใช้ผ่านมิเตอร์น้ำทั่วไป

Abstract. The sensitivity of passive UHF RFID transponders (Radio Frequency Identification) is the key issue, which determines the maximum read range of an UHF RFID system. During this work the ability of improving the sensitivity using solar energy harvesting, especially for low light conditions, is shown. To use the additional energy harvested from the examined silicon and organic solar cells, the passive RFID system is changed into a semi-active one. This needs no changes on the reader hardware itself, only the used RFIC (Radio Frequency Integrated Circuit) of the transponder has to possess an additional input pin for an external supply voltage. The silicon and organic cells are evaluated and compared to each other regarding their low light performance. The different cells are examined in a shielded box, which is protected from the environmental lighting. Additionally, a demonstrator is shown, which makes the measurement of the extended read range with respect to the lighting conditions possible. If the cells are completely darkened, the sensitivity gain is ascertained using high capacity super caps. Due to the measurements an enhancement in range up to 70 % could be guaranteed even under low light conditions.

Sistem pengaman sepeda motor menggunakan radio frequency identification (RFID) dan notifikasi melalui handphone yang dikontrol dengan modul Arduino Uno telah dirancang bangun. RFID terdiri dari sebuah RFID tag dan RFID reader. RFID tag yang memiliki kode yang berbeda-beda, digunakan sebagai kunci untuk menghidupkan sepeda motor setelah kunci kontak digunakan. RFID reader dapat membaca tag pada jarak maksimal 1,26 cm. Sepeda motor yang dihidupkan tanpa menggunakan RFID tag atau RFID tag tidak sesuai menyebabkan aktifnya reed switch pada pelek roda depan. Ketika roda telah berputar sebanyak empat kali, maka alarm aktif dan GSM SIM 800L mengirimkan notifikasi berupa SMS sebanyak satu kali dan misscall sebanyak tiga kali ke nomor handphone pemilik sepeda motor. Waktu delay rata-rata SMS dan miscall berturut-turut adalah 5,42 s, 8,62 s, 61,14 s dan 113,16 s. Kata kunci: sistem pengaman sepeda motor, RFID, Arduino Uno , reed switch, GSM SIM 800L

A „rádiófrekvenciás azonosítás” (RFID) technológiákat már a II. világháború óta alkalmazzák. A technológia lényege, hogy legalább az egyik felet azonosítsa. A negyedik ipari forradalomban ez a technológia talán a legjobb jelölt az okos termékek megvalósítására. Ez az új használati kör új biztonsági feladatokat jelent, amik megoldásra várnak. Ilyenek például az adat biztonság és adat integritás biztosítása. Ebben a cikkben az RFID technológiákon ismert támadások és a lehetséges védelmi módszerek kerülnek bemutatásra.

Resumen
Este trabalho trata sobre a tecnologia de RFID (Radio Frequency Identification –Identificação por Radiofrequência) e sua aplicabilidade na armazenagem de material aeronáutico da Força Aérea Brasileira (FAB). Tal abordagem se justifica devido à necessidadeda manutenção de um alto índice de acuracidade dos estoques imobilizados, maior agilidade nas atividades de inventário de componentes aeronáuticos e de picking, bem como aumento da segurança dos itens no interior dos armazéns. O propósito deste estudo é avaliar no Sistema de Material Aeronáutico (SISMA) a aplicabilidade, vantagens e desvantagens da adoção da tecnologia de RFID na área de armazenagem. Esse propósito será conseguido através de revisão bibliográfica de outros estudos a respeito do tema, bem como estudo de caso com auxílio de Oficiais Especialistas em Suprimento técnico da área de Logística da FAB. A pesquisa evidenciou que os Oficiais da área de logística identificaram nessa tecnologia uma oportunidade para atender necessidades específicas da área de armazenagem como inventários mais rápidos e precisos, aumento da segurança do material estocado e localização de itens tidos como perdidos no interior do armazém, em que pese ocasionar custos com aquisição dos equipamentos e montagem da infraestrutura, manutenção preventiva e corretiva, entre outros.
