COVID-19 is the world crisis caused by Coronavirus, which a major fall down for the tourism industry. This study is done to analyze the strategic approach in mitigating tourist destinations and to prepare the destination for the recovery after the Coronavirus pandemic. The purpose of this research is to identify and analyze strategic approaches used for mitigation in the case study of Bagak Sahwa Village Tourism in Singkawang, West Kalimantan Province. The data used qualitative research method through 8 in-depth interviews and 1 focus group discussion as the source persons. In a cause of travel restriction, the qualitative data collection method was conducted virtually. This finding uses the village tourism approaches to analyze the strategy. Based on the findings, the community of Bagak Sahwa understanding of mitigation has increased and developed several strategies in mitigating their destination. The community expects the strategy for the improvement and development of the village destination from the local tourism office.

This research aims to ensure the active role of the Bagak Sahwa village community in making decisions on tourism by using the environmental area to obtain a fair share of income from tourism activities. Bagak Sahwa tourism village is expected to implement Community Based Tourism (CBT) effectively. However, the implementation by the local community has not been conducted as mandated in Law No. 10 of 2009. In some cases, it can even lead to community conflicts. The results showed that community participation in developing the tourism village potential was still low. The low quality of human resources also influenced this situation, and the resident-focused more on the agricultural sector. The road access is in poor shape, insufficient facilities, and infrastructure supporting tourism activities, the promotion of tourism objects is still deficient, and the quality and quantity of human resources are still low. The Social Entrepreneur model’s presence has impacted a shift in society’s perspective socially and economically. However, the Village community still upholds their ancestors’ language and behavior patterns. The administrators involving the local community transmit knowledge based on these findings. Therefore, the local community is educated to actively participate in developing the village. They can collaborate with new things by involving millennials in tourism village activities to maintain local culture and wisdom.

This paper tracks the relationship between religion and the state in Saudi Arabia during the past 50 years. This relationship is unique in the sense that the religious power (Wahabi) together with the ruling family (Al Sa'ud) were partners in founding the Kingdom. This cooperative relationship has been degenerating into mutual suspicion. Right now there are three main variants of religious stratification in Saudi Arabia vis-à-vis the state: the traditional Salafists who back the rulers come what may – the government is gradually reducing their prerogatives; and the opposition, which in turn is divided between Sahwa (who are discontented Salafists) and Tanweeris (advocates of enlightenment). The Sahwa current with its elderly leadership believes that the state is straying away from the teachings of religion and it recommends austere adherence to it; the dynamics of their activities are possibly pushing towards taking leadership from outside the Kingdom. The Tanweeris, on the other hand, have young leaders, the popular base is young and broad, and they are strong advocates of democracy. Despite their capacity for effective social mobilization, it seems too early to judge whether this religious stream will eventually push for reform or constrain it, especially given that it has not yet resolved its position on some key issues such as different national constituencies and women.

Rap and mahragan were the sound of youths that demanded freedom and social justice in Tahrir Square and in Tunisia Parliament Square sit-ins during 2011. It may have been, not merely the soundtrack of the revolution, but a motivating factor in bringing people into the streets and reshaping their basic political subjectivity: a core process of any revolutionary change in a country’s social and political structures. On the one hand, rap and mahragan are used by young people as a way of calling into question the processes of marginalization. On the other hand, young people use it as a way of participating in public life. Despite its differences, from a mixed analysis using the data collected in the SAHWA project, both qualitative and quantitative, this article proves how rap and mahragan music scenes (re)produce informal spaces as an alternative to their social marginalization and positioned them into Tunisian and Egyptian political arenas in different places according to environmental political dialectics.

Informal employment has long been a feature of Arab economies and as such, better understanding of the political participation of informal workers is important, especially given their involvement in social uprisings, such as during the Arab Spring in 2011. This paper tests for the first time the impact of informality of labour on political participation in five Arab countries: Algeria, Egypt, Lebanon, Morocco, and Tunisia. By using the European Union’s 2018 SAHWA survey and logistic regression models, we are able to show evidence of an association between political participation and informality through the negative impact of the latter on four indicators of political participation: affiliation to political parties/movements; frequency of participation in political activities; frequency of speaking about politics; and voting in elections. Furthermore, the paper confirms that age, gender and education are significant predictors of political participation in the countries analysed. We argue that these findings have relevant policy implications.

State legitimacy and effectiveness can be observed in the state’s approach to delivering welfare to citizens, thus mitigating social grievances and avoiding conflicts. Social security systems in the Maghreb countries are relatively similar in their architecture and aim to provide social insurance to all the workers in the labor market. However, they suffer from the same main problem: a low rate of enrollment of workers. Many workers (employees and self-employed) work informally without any social security coverage. The issue of whether informal jobs are chosen voluntarily by workers or as a strategy of last resort is controversial. Many authors recognize that the informal sector is heterogeneous and assume that it is made up of (1) workers who voluntarily choose it, and (2) others who are pushed into it because of entry barriers to the formal sector. The former assumption tells us much about state legitimacy/attractiveness, and the latter is used to inform state effectiveness in delivering welfare. Using the Sahwa survey and discrete choice models, this article confirms the heterogeneity of the informal labor market in three Maghreb countries: Algeria, Morocco, and Tunisia. Furthermore, this article highlights the profiles of workers who voluntarily choose informality, an aspect that is missing from previous studies. Finally, this article proposes policy recommendations in order to extend social security to informal workers and to include them in the formal labor market.

The deployment of armed forces of the US and its allies on the territory of Saudi Arabia in 1990 and their war against Iraq in 1991 strengthened American dominance in the region and at the same time revealed previously concealed internal contradictions in Saudi society. A divide between the pro-monarchy and anti-Saudi movements became evident. It resulted in an ideological struggle between former allies - the Wahhabis and the Muslim Brothers - inside and outside the kingdom. The Islamist discourse of the Brothers and Sahwa movement (a sort of hybrid of Wahhabism and Muslim Brotherhood ideology) manifested itself in questioning the legitimacy of the Saudi rule and promoting a general anti-American attitude. Those contradictions gave birth to Al-Qaeda, which declared a global jihad against the West and the monarchies of the Persian Gulf. The September 11, 2001 attacks in New York gave Washington an excuse to invade Afghanistan and then, after a successful blitzkrieg there, encouraged the US to begin a war in Iraq under the fake pretext of Iraqi plans to develop all kinds of weapons of mass destruction. Consequences for the Saudi government included the strengthening of Sunni - Shiite contradictions inside the kingdom and in the region as well as an explosion of terrorism inside Saudi Arabia. After the establishment of the Shiite majority government in Iraq, the Sunni - Shiite contradictions have turned into a cold war between Saudi Arabia and Iran. This situation aggravated the instability in the Middle East and precluded potential compromises.

Indonesia is a country that is very rich its animal diversity, but is also know as a countrythat has a long list of endangered wildlife. The destruction of forests, the transfer function of over-harvesting and the destruction of their habitat is the main factor that threatens the extinction of wildlife. Forests as house a wide variety of wildlife is no longer able to protect the exixtence of wildlife due to habitat destruction. Various rare species endemic in Indonesia such as Sumateran tigers, one-horned rhino, the Javan hawk eagle, dragons, birds of paradise and other animals gravely threatened. Illegal wildlife trade proses a serious threat to the preservation of the wildlife. The wildlife illegally traded most are cought from the wild and not of capativity. By law the government efforts to protect endangered species from extinction is done with the issuance of Law No. 5 of 1990 on Conservation of Natural Resources and ecosystems followedby the enactment of Minister of Forestry Number : P.53/Menhut-II/2006 on Conservation. Public education to raise public awareness of the importance of wildlife conservation play an important role in wildlife conservation. Institutions ex-situ conservation becomes a toggle while during their forests in the rescue effort should be able to give life maximum for wildlife with regard to ethics and the rules of animal welfare so that the function and purpose of conservation agencies as a place of education, research and development of science can be fixed accomplished.
Indonesia merupakan negara yang sangat kaya dengan keanekaragaman satwanya, namun dikenal juga sebagai negara yang memiliki daftar panjang tentang satwa liar yang terancam punah. Perusakan hutan, pengalihan fungsi hutan yang berlebihan serta rusaknya habitat mereka merupakan faktor utama yang mengancam punahnya satwa liar tersebut. Hutan sebagai rumah berbagai macam satwa liar tidak lagi mampu melindungi keberadaan satwa akibat perusakan habitatnya. Berbagai satwa endemik yang langka di Indonesia seperti harimau Sumatera, badak bercula satu, elang jawa, komodo, burung cendrawasih dan satwa-satwa lainnya keberadaannya terancam punah. Secara hukum upaya pemerintah dalam melindungi satwa langka dari ancaman kepunahan dilakukan dengan dikeluarkannya Undang-Undang Nomor 5 Tahun 1990 tentang Konservasi Sumber Daya Alam Hayati dan Ekosistemnya selanjutnya diikuti dengan ditetapkannya Peraturan Mentri Kehutanan Nomor : P.53/Menhut-II/2006 tentang Lembaga Konservasi. Edukasi kepada masyarakat untuk meningkatkan kesadaran publik akan pentingnya pelestarian satwa liar memainkan peranan penting dalam pelestarian satwa liar. Lembaga konservasi ex-situ menjadi tempat tiggal sementara selama hutan mereka dalam upaya penyelamatan harus mampu memberikan kehidupan yang maksimal bagi satwa liar tersebut dengan tetap memperhatikan etika dan kaidah kesejahteraan satwa sehingga fungsi dan tujuan lembaga konservasi sebagai tempat pendidikan, penelitian dan pengembangan ilmu pengetahuan dapat tetap terlaksana.

Penelitian ini dalam penulisannya menggunakan tipe penelitian hukum doktrinal yang bersifat normatif. Pendekatan yang dipilih dalam menyusun penelitian ini adalah pendekatan peraturan perundang-undangan dan pendekatan konseptual. Bahan hukum yang digunakan adalah peraturan perundang-undangan yang relevan sebagai bahan hukum primer dan buku-buku, jurnal-jurnal, surat kabar baik cetak maupun elektronik sebagai bahan hukum sekunder. Bahan hukum tersebut dianalisis untuk menjawab dan menjelaskan rumusan masalah berupa Eksploitasi Satwa Liar Yang Dilindungi Yang Berimplikasi Tindak Pidana dan Pertanggungjawaban Pidana Terhadap Lembaga Konservasi Pelaku Eksploitasi Satwa Liar Dilindungi. Dengan menjawab rumusan masalah tersebut, diharapkan dapat menjelaskan bentuk-bentuk eksploitasi satwa liar dilindungi yang berimplikasi tindak pidana dan menjelaskan bentuk pertanggungjawaban pidana yang dapat diterapkan bagi lembaga konservasi pelaku eksploitasi satwa liar dilindungi. Satwa liar dilindungi dieksploitasi oleh lembaga konservasi dengan modus operandi berupa edukasi atraksi satwa. Dalam prakteknya, atraksi satwa tersebut ditemukan penyiksaan dan penyalahgunaan satwa. Lembaga-lembaga tersebut memanfaatkan izin konservasi yang dimilikinya untuk menyiksa satwa yang dikelolanya demi mendapatkan keuntungan, padahal satwa liar dilindungi merupakan salah satu bentuk keanekaragaman hayati yang harus dijaga kelestariannya mengingat jumlahnya yang semakin mendekati kepunahan. Penyiksaan dan penyalahgunaan satwa dalam eksploitasi tersebut mengancam kesejahteraan hewan yang dimiliki satwa liar dilindungi yang berada di pengelolaannya. Hasil penelitian menunjukan bahwa: eksploitasi satwa liar dilindungi merupakan peragaan satwa yang bertransformasi memjadi eksploitasi yang berimplikasi tindak pidana melukai satwa dilindungi dalam keadaan hidup berdasarkan UU Konservasi dan oleh karena itu Pengurus lembaga konservasi adalah pihak yang dapat dimintai pertanggungjawaban pidana atas eksploitasi satwa liar dilindungi yang berimplikasi tindak pidana berdasarkan undang-undang tersebut.

Satwa endemik merupakan salah satu hewan yang memiliki ciri khusus dan hanya dapat ditemukan di beberapa lokasi tertentu. Salah satu peran dari satwa endemik adalah untuk menjaga keseimbangan alam di sekitarnya. Olehnya masyarakat perlu mengenal berbagai jenis satwa endemik khususnya satwa endemik yang tinggal berdekatan dengan masyarakat supaya dapat mengurangi perburuan liar dan penyalahgunaan peran satwa endemik tersebut sehingga berkurangnya jumlah satwa endemik, dapat dicegah. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk merancang dan membuat “Aplikasi Pengenalan Satwa Endemik Pulau Sulawesi Berbasis Augmented Reality” yang dapat memperkenalkan, menambah minat serta kepedulian masyarakat mengenai satwa endemik terutama yang ada di Pulau Sulawesi. Dengan memanfaatkan teknologi Augmented Reality, satwa endemik yang langka keberadaannya dapat dibuat dalam objek virtual 3D untuk memudahkan masyarakat mengenal satwa tersebut. Dalam pembuatan aplikasi ini akan digunakan metode pengembangan multimedia, kakas storyboard dan flowchart untuk menjelaskan gambaran dari pembuatan aplikasi ini. Sedangkan perangkat lunak yang digunakan untuk pembuatan aplikasi ini digunakan aplikasi Unity 3D dengan bahasa pemrograman C#, library dari Wikitude SDK untuk membuat navigasi dan fungsi markerless augmented reality. Hasil penelitian ini menjelaskan bahwa aplikasi ini dapat menerapkan teknologi markerless augmented reality, menampilkan objek 3D dari satwa endemik Pulau Sulawesi, melihat informasi yang disediakan dan melakukan interaksi terhadap objek 3D satwa endemik sehingga aplikasi ini dapat dijadikan sebagai media pengenalan satwa endemik Pulau Sulawesi.

Indonesia menjadi negara dengan peringkat keenam dalam hal kepunahan biodiversitas alamnya termasuk satwa – satwa endemik yang hanya bisa ditemukan di Indonesia. Hal tersebut dikarenakan banyaknya ekploitasi dan kurangnya rasa peduli masyarakat terhadap keberadaan satwa endemik tersebut. Tujuan dirancang motif dengan mengangkat tema satwa endemik ini adalah sebagai suatu gerakan kepedulian satwa khususnya satwa endemik melalui gaya hidup yaitu dengan berpenampilan atau menggunakan produk fashion, seperti kaos, topi, sandal, sepatu dan tas. Metode yang digunakan dalam perancangan ini pertama-tama dengan pengumpulan data dengan mencari berbagai referensi desain motif satwa dan penerapannya, kemudian yang kedua menganalisis data dan mendapatkan hasil visualisasi desain. Hasil dari rancangan ini berupa 14 motif satwa endemik Indonesia yang berupa motif tanpa batas yang dapat diaplikasikan terutama pada media yang dapat dicetak dan dibentuk menjadi produk fashion seperti kaos, topi, tas, sepatu, sandal, masker dan case hp. Dari hasil perancangan ini diharapkan produk fashion yang dihasilkan dapat digunakan sehari hari, dengan demikian maka masyarakat akan lebih mengenal, lebih peduli akan kelestarian hewan edemik Indonesia.

Harimau Sumatera merupakan subspesies harimau yang masih bertahan hidup di Indonesia. Salah satu komponen utama yang dapat mempengaruhi kelangsungan hidup Harimau Sumatera adalah satwa mangsa. Populasi Harimau Sumatera saat ini mengalami penurunan dan keberadaannya sulit di temukan, hal ini disebabkan oleh kurangnya satwa mangsa akibat rusaknya habitat dan perburuan liar. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengidentifikasi satwa mangsa dan menghitung kelimpahan satwa mangsa. Metode yang digunakan pada penelitian ini adalah pengamatan terkonsentrasi (consentration count) yaitu pengambilan data yang dilaksanakan terkonsentrasi pada suatu titik yang diduga sebagai tempat perjumpaan satwa tinggi dengan menggunakan kamera jebakan. Kamera jebakan dipasang di 5 lokasi, pada batang pohon dengan ketinggian rata-rata 40-45 cm di atas tanah, posisi kamera menghadap ke jalur pada jarak 3 meter dari pinggir jalur. Data yang diidentifikasi adalah tingkat perjumpaan, kepadatan dan keanekaragaman jenis satwa mangsa. Ditemukan 11 jenis satwa mangsa Harimau Sumatera pada Area Konservasi Prof. Sumitro Djojohadikusumo. Tingkat perjumpaan satwa mangsa 346,5 per100 hari, kepadatan 0,0512 individu/ha dan indeks keanekaragaman jenis nya 1,4. Satwa mangsa yang mempunyai kepadatan tinggi yaitu Babi hutan dan Beruk masing-masing dengan nilai 0,0237 individu/ha dan 0,0187individu/ha.

Manna and Salwa> is a term mentioned simultaneously in the Qur'an three times in three different letters. For the word Manna it self is repeated 37 times with 27 forms in different letters, while for the word Salwa> it self is mentioned 3 times in different letters. Of course, the word has a different meaning in each letter, so it requires a deep understanding to know the difference. The disclosure of the meaning of Manna and Salwa> will be the author of the analysis using semantics, and the interpretation of the Qur'an and its Exegesis and al-Mishbah tafsir. The process carried out in this study is: the author will present the data in the form of verses of the Qur'an related to lafazd Manna and Salwa> and clarify it. Then the author will analyze using semantic theory with the following stages : The first step is to search for keywords, then find the basic meaning and relational meaning, then look for synchronized concepts with. Tracing the definitions of Manna and Salwa> with pre-Qur'anic, Post-Qur'anic, Post-Qur'anic, then presents the Weltanschauung of the word. After studying using semantic theory, the author will conduct a critical study, namely analyzing the meaning of the words Manna and Salwa> in the Tafsir of the Qur'an and its Tafsir, and Tafsir Al-Mishbah.

Abstract Hunting animals is a strategy of gaining food to survive. This activity is not only done by traditional people but also done by modern ones, yet they have different techniques and tools for hunting. Islam has rules for such activity (ash-shoid) according to Al-Quran, Hadith, Ijma, and Qiyas. Besides, Indonesian government regulates the activity through an act number 5 of 1990 about natural souces and ecosystem conservation. The resuts of reseach show that according to sharia, hunting is intended to fulfil human’s need for food but by avoiding haraam preys in order to obey the alminghty Allah. Meanwhile, Indonesian government regulates hunting activity through an act number 13 of 1994. Even though sharia and the act of hunting have some differences but both rules show that Islam and Indonesian govement have common perceptions in which animals may be hunted for food and other purposes but they must be protected from over exploitation. Therefore, according to Islamic context, human as khalifah fil ardh and as good Indonesian citizen should follow the rules to maintain the balance life cycle.Keywords : Prey, Hunting Place, Hunting Season, Hunter, Hunting Tools. AbstrakBerburu binatang (satwa) merupakan salah satu cara untuk memenuhi kebutuhan hidup manusia. Aktifitas berburu ini bukan hanya dilakukan oleh manusia zaman dahulu saja, tetapi juga tetap dilakukan hingga zaman sekarang. Yang berbeda hanya cara yang dilakukan, alat dipergunakan, dan berbagai ragam binatang dijadikan buruan. Islam memberikan tata aturan (hukum) yang berhubungan dengan perburuan (ash-shoid) dengan bersumber dari al-Qur`an dan al-Hadis, ditambah dengan Ijma` dan Qiyas (fiqh). Hukum positif Indonesia juga mengatur hal-hal yang berkaitan dengan berburu melalui Undang-undang Nomor 5 Tahun 1967 tentang Ketentuan-ketentuan Pokok Kehutanan dan Undang-undang Nomor 5 Tahun 1990 tentang Konservasi Sumber Daya Alam Hayati dan Ekosistemnya. Hasil penelitian ini menyimpulkan bahwa Hukum Islam perlu mengatur perburuan agar manusia mendapatkan yang terbaik dalam hal makanan dan untuk menguji manusia dalam hal ketatan kepada Allah SWT. Demikian juga dalam hukum positif, peraturan Pemerintah No.13 Tahun 1994 tentang Perburuan Satwa Buru menjadi dasar hukum dalam kegiatan berburu di Indonesia. Walaupun antara kedua aturan tersebut (hukum Islam dan Hukum Positif) terdapat beberapa perbedaan, namun keduanya juga mempunyai beberapa bentuk persamaan yang menunjukkan bahwa agama (Islam) dan negara ini mempunyai semangat yang sama bahwa satwa merupakan salah satu entitas yang ada di dunia ini yang walaupun dalam beberapa hal boleh dimanfaatkan oleh manusia (makan, menunggangi, dan lain-lain) namun bukan berarti harus dieksploitasi sehingga mengancam eksistensi dan ekosistem dari satwa tersebut. Di Indonesia diatur dalam Undang-Undang No.5 tahun 1990 tentang Konservasi Sumberdaya Alam Hayati dan Ekosistemnya dan peraturan pelaksanaan lainnya mengatur perlindungan jenis satwa liar atau hidupan liar. Rumusan masalahnya adalah 1. Bagaimana Perbandingan Bentuk Perlindungan Satwa Liar Menurut Hukum Indonesia dan Hukum Internasional ? 2. Apa hambatan-hambatan dan solusi dalam pelaksanaan perlindungan satwa liar menurut Undang-Undang Nomor 5 tahun 1990 tentang Konservasi Sumber Daya Alam Hayati dan Ekosistemnya ?. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah yuridis empiris. Hasil Penelitiannya adalah : 1. Pelaksanaan Perlindungan Satwa Liar Menurut Hukum Indonesia dan Hukum Internasional yaitu Perlindungan satwa liar diatur dalam instrument Hukum Internasional seperti Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) . Instrumen Hukum Internasional perlindungan dan pemanfaatan satwa liar yang dilindungi (wilslife spesies) antara lain adalah Daftar Merah Spesies yang terancam Punah IUCN dan CITES 1973. Indonesia meratifikasi CITES melalui Keputusan Presiden No.43 tahun 1978.CITES mengategorikan spesies dalam 3 (tiga) kelas yaitu spesies yang termasuk di dalam Appendix I, II dan III (NonAppendix). Di Indonesia diatur dalam Undang-Undang No.5 tahun 1990 tentang Konservasi Sumberdaya Alam Hayati dan Ekosistemnya dan peraturan pelaksanaan lainnya mengatur perlindungan jenis satwa liar atau hidupan liar. 2. Hambatan-hambatan dan solusi dalam pelaksanaan perlindungan satwa liar menurut Undang-Undang Nomor 5 tahun 1990 tentang Konservasi Sumber Daya Alam Hayati dan Ekosistemnya ? Instrumen hukum nasional yang melindungi satwa dan tumbuhan liar belum memiliki kelengkapan ketentuan yang mengacu pada CITES sepenuhnya, dan ancaman sanksi yang ada juga tidak menimbulkan efek jera pelaku kejahatan. Perlu dilakukan perubahan perundang-undangan dibidang konservasi, perlindungan satwa atau tumbuhan liar yang sejalan dengan perkembangan instrument hukum Internasional.

Extensive deforestation in Kalimantan caused by mining, mining is often abandoned when it is no longer useful. This causes animals to lose their natural habitat. It also affects the surrounding population. One of the affected species is the Bornean Orangutan (Pongo pygmaeus), which is in decline and threatened with extinction. Bornean Orangutan (Pongo pygmaeus) is only scattered in several points on the island of Borneo. If humans continuously destroy their habitat, the remaining places for orangutans and other animals are only in the protected areas. Therefore, this project aims to turn the ex-mining land into a protected animal park for orangutans and other animals. The existing type of animals are in prison (cage) and use as a show or object on display, not as a habitat for the animal. Using experimental architectural methods that focus on site transformation, the Immersion landscape elevates the concept of “unzoo” to offer a better environment for animals in the future. Animal parks are a public place to get education about animals (fauna), plants (flora), and ecosystems (environment) through direct interaction in the created habitats. By applying the concept of Unzoo and Immersion Landscape, we create an animal park not only for the benefit of humans but resembles the habitat of orangutans and other animals. Visitors can feel and get knowledge in the original habitat of these animals without being directly in their natural habitat. Masalah ini membuat satwa kehilangan rumah (habitat), selain itu juga mempengaruhi populasi satwa-satwa yang tinggal didalamnya. Salah satu spesies satwa yang terdampak adalah orang utan Borneo (Pongo pygmaeus), tidak hanya berkurang tetapi terancam punah. Spesies orang utan Borneo (Pongo pygmaeus) ini hanya tersebar dibeberapa titik pulau Borneo. Tempat tersisa bagi orang utan dan satwa lainnya hanya di area yang dilindungi jika habitatnya terus-menerus dirusak manusia. Tujuan proyek ini ingin mengembalikan lahan bekas pertambang menjadi taman satwa yang dilindungi (habitat buatan) untuk orang utan dan satwa lainnya. Tipe taman satwa eksisting kerap memperlakukan satwa seperti berada di dalam penjara (kandang) dan menjadikannya sebuah pertunjukan atau benda yang dipamerkan, bukan selayaknya sebagai habitat dari satwa itu sendiri. Menggunakan metode arsitektur eksperimental yang berfokus pada transformasi tapak, Immesion landscape mengangkat konsep unzoo untuk menawarkan lingkungan yang lebih baik untuk satwa di masa depan. Menjadikan taman satwa tempat publik untuk mendapatkan edukasi tentang satwa (fauna), tumbuhan (flora), dan ekosistem (lingkungan) melalui interaksi dengan secara lansung di habitat yang diciptakan. Dengan menerapkan konsep Unzoo dan Immersion Landscape membuat taman satwa bukanlah sekedar untuk kepentingan manusia tetapi menyerupai habitat orang utan dan satwa lainnya. Pengunjung dapat merasakan dan mendapatkan edukasi dihabitat asli satwa tersebut tanpa secara lansung berada di habitat aslinya.

This paper was written to examine descendents’ views and memories on Han Hwondang Kim Goengpil and Do-dong Seowon in Hyeonpung, Daegu, which has enshrined him, by referencing to others’ Chinese poems collected in anthologies. There remains no Kim Goengpil’s anthologies, so only Gyeonghyeonrok(景賢錄) may seem to be selected as a reference for him, but there are, however, few writings of him, and therefore, it is difficult to investigate his scholarly career and guarantee the objectivity of the contents collected in them, as there are a lot of literature regarding the post-evaluation for Chujeung(追贈) and Gajeung(加贈). Hence, the Chinese poems collected in others’ anthologies were examined to show that the birth and death dates of authors from the contemporary figures who directly interacted with Kim Goengpil to Myeon-u Gwak Jongseok who lived in the 20th century are evenly distributed, and that the subjects of Chinese poems recited primarily include the text of ‘Sohak(小學)’ on which he concentrated his efforts for a life; Hapcheon and Geochang, in which he often stayed when he was young; Huicheon and Suncheon, in which he stayed twice due to Sahwa(史禍); and Hyeonpung in which Do-dong Seowon is placed. Main places recited in the Chinese poems include Sohakdang(小學堂) and Jidongam(志同巖), the spaces used for the lectures conducted together with Jeong Yeochang in Hapcheon; Supodae(水瀑臺) in which he strolled about together with his sister’s husbands, Choi Sukryang and Jeong Yeochang and Mohyeongjeong(慕賢亭) which Choi Sukryang’s decendents constructed to celebrate the meeting of them in Geochang; and the site in which an old house is located and Do-dong Seowon in Hyeonpung. In the process, the contemporary poetry and prose about Kim Goengpil were created by concentrating on grief and reverence for him who suffered from political vicissitudes, but shifted the authors’ focus to the space of Do-dong Seowon, generation after generation, probably implying that the descendents regard Kim Goengpil as a past figure, but view Do-dong Seowon as an existent space before their eyes. Although the title board for Do-dong Seonwon was bestowed in the first half of the 17th century, Jeyeongsi(題詠詩) about it primarily consist of works created by literary men who lived in the 18th-19th century, which may be associated with the situation in which the contemporary intellectuals suffered from serious chaos caused by foreign countries’ reckless invasion. Do-dong Seowon was memorized by intellectuals who faced the modern transition period, not only as the space for reverence for Kim Goeingpil and for junior scholars’ lectures. The intellectuals, who might be more concerned about the role of Confucianism than ever, thus attempted to memorize Do-dong Seowon as the space for wishing the recovery of the national destiny, the revival of Confucianism and the succession of Confucian philosophy.

Tujuan dari penelitian adalah untuk mengungkapkan pengaruh strategi karyawisata dan sensitivitas ekologi terhadap apresiasi pelestarian satwa. Penelitian dilaksanakan terhadap siswa SMAN 22 Jakarta dengan desain penelitrian eksperimen faktorial 2 x 2. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa (1) apresiasi pelestarian satwa pada perlakuan karya wisata antara habitat alami dan karya wisata di penangkaran tidak menunjukan adanya perbedaan, (2) Kelompok siswa dengan sensitivitas ekologi tinggi, apresiasi pelestraian satwa antara karya wisata di habitat alami dan di penangkaran tidak menunjukan perbedaan, (3) Kelompok siswa dengan tingkat sensitivitas ekologis rendah, apresiasi pelestarian satwa antara perlakuan karya wisata di habitat alami dan di penangkaran tidak menunjukan perbedaan, (4) Terdapat interaksi signifikan antara strategi karyawisata dengan sensitivitas ekologis terhadap apresiasi pelestarian satwa. Berdasarkan hal tersebut, maka dalam peningkatan apresiasi siswa dalam apresiasi pelestraian satwa penggunaan strategi pembelajaran melalui karya wisata dan dikontrol dengan faktor sensitivitas ekologi seharusnya dapat dipertimbangkan.

Perdagangan satwa liar dikatakan ilegal apabila tidak dimilikinya ijin resmi dari pemerintah serta Balai Konservasi Sumber Daya Alam. Tindak pidana perdagangan tersebut telah diatur dalam Undang Undang No. 5 Tahun 1990 Tentang Konservasi Sumber Daya Alam Hayati dan Ekosistemnya. Modus operandi yang dilakukan oleh pelaku perdagangan ilegal satwa liar yang dilindungi adalah melalui jual beli secara konvensional yang sering kali dilakukan secara langsung di pasar tradisional serta melalui media sosial bahkan pelaku perdagangan ilegal satwa liar yang dilindungi ini berasal dari masyarakat hingga aparat negara yang seharusnya memberikan contoh yang baik kepada masyarakat.

Desa Pedindang merupakan satu dari sebelas desa yang mengelilingi kawasan TAHURA Gunung Mangkol. Sejak dulu, masyarakat di kedua desa ini memenuhi kebutuhan hidup sehari-hari dengan memanfaatkan sumber daya alam di sekitar TAHURA Gunung Mangkol. Salah satu sumber daya alam yang ada di TAHURA tersebut adalah satwa liar yang biasa dimanfaatkan sebagai obat tradisional. Penelitian ini dilakukan untuk mengetahui satwa liar apa saja yang dimanfaatkan sebagai obat tradisional oleh masyarakat Desa Pedindang, dan untuk mengetahui apa saja bagian yang dimanfaatkan, jenis pemanfaatan, dan cara pengolahan dari satwa liar tersebut. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah pengumpulan data memanfaatkan survei dan pemilihan responden dengan menggunakan teknik snowball sampling. Responden terpilih kemudian diwawancarai sesuai dengan kuesioner. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian, sembilan spesies satwa liar dimanfaatkan sebagai obat tradisional oleh masyarakat Desa Pedindang. Bagian satwa liar yang dimanfaatkan adalah daging, kepala, otak, dan empedu. Jenis pemanfaatan satwa liar adalah sebagai obat asma, obat sakit kulit, obat luka bekas operasi, obat kebotakan, dan penambah stamina pria. Cara pengolahan satwa liar yang dimanfaatkan adalah dimasak, dibakar untuk diambil minyaknya, dicampur dengan bahan lain, dan tanpa diolah.

Macaca nigra (kera jambul hitam) adalah salah satu satwa endemik di Pulau Sulawesi yang populasinya di alam semakin berkurang. Menurunnya populasi satwa ini utamanya disebabkan oleh meningkatnya populasi penduduk yang secara tidak langsung mempengaruhi tingkat perburuan satwa ini, yang umumnya dikonsumsi sebagai makanan tradisional masyarakat setempat. Perburuan ini dilakukan semata-mata hanya untuk tujuan komersial. Akses jalan Trans-Sulawesi yang semakin baik juga telah membuka peluang yang lebih besar bagi para pemburu dan pedagang dalam melakukan perdagangan satwa liar. Selain itu, status kawasan, lemahnya penegakan hukum, minimnya sumberdaya manusia pengelola kawasan, dan lemahnya manajemen kawasan serta aktivitas wisata yang tidak bertanggung jawab juga turut berperan dalam menurunnya populasi kera jambul hitam. Tulisan ini mencoba untuk mengetengahkan isu-isu yang mempengaruhi populasi M. nigra di alam dan mengidentifikasi tantangan-tantangan yang harus dihadapi dalam konservasi satwa ini. Kejahatan terhadap satwa liar terus terjadi. Bahkan pada awal tahun 2018, seekor orang utan tanpa kepala ditemukan mengambang di Desa Kalahien, Kecamatan Dusun Selatan, Kabupaten Barito Selatan, Kalimantan Tengah. Hasil autopsi ditemukan 17 peluru senapan angin di tubuh (jantung, paru-paru, dan lambung) orang utan tersebut dan luka-luka dari benda tajam, serta luka tebasan. Untuk memberikan pemahaman terutama kepada siswa SMK, maka diadakan sosialisasi sanksi pidana terhadap pelaku kejahatan konservasi sumber daya alam hayati dan ekosistemnya di SMK Negeri 7 Bandar Lampung. Metode yang dilakukan dalam penyuluhan adalah metode ceramah, diskusi, dan metode evaluasi. Dari penyuluhan hukum yang dilaksanakan di SMK Negeri 7 Kota Bandar Lampung dapat disimpulkan bahwa: siswa SMK Negeri 7 Kota Bandar Lampung sebagai peserta sosialisasi telah memahami pentingnya memberikan perlindungan terhadap satwa dan menjaga habitat satwa, siswa mengetahui tentang aturan hukum terkait perlindungan terhadap satwa. siswa memahami jenis-jenis tindakan yang dilarang dilakukan terhadap satwa beserta ketentuan pidananya, siswa telah memahami perannya dalam memberikan perlindungan satwa dan habitatnya.

The population is the study is all employees of Regional Company Taman Satwa Taru Jurug Surakarta totaling 104 employees. The sample in this study is the same as population. The sampling technique used is census where all members of the population are used as a sample. The results showed that the competence and the environmental management system have a significant effect on employee performance at Regional Company Taman Satwa Taru Jurug Surakarta and the job satisfaction can improve the effect of competence and performance management system on employee performance at Regional Company Taman Satwa Taru Jurug Surakarta.

Namun, pada kenyataannya, kekayaan ini tidak diimbangi dengan kepedulian dan keingintahuan masyarakat mengenai keberadaan dan kelestariannya. Hal ini dapat disebabkan karena media yang menampung informasi satwa ini sangatlah sedikit. Jika hal ini dibiarkan berlarut-larut, maka lama kelamaan keberadaan satwa tersebut akan menjadi punah. Dengan demikian diperlukan sebuah media yang mampu merekam data sebaran satwa yang di lindungi di Indonesia. Data satwa ini dapat berupa nama ilmiah dan lokasi satwa tersebut dipelihara. Oleh karena itu penelitian ini mengimplementasikan Sistem Informasi Geografis (SIG) berbasis Google API sebagai media yang mampu mendata sebaran satwa yang dilindungi oleh pemerintah Indonesia. Adanya SIG yang dapat merepresentasikan sebaran data satwa dalam bentuk peta dapat memudahkan pengaksesan informasi dan menampilkan lokasi mengenai sebaran satwa langka di Indonesia. SIG yang dibangun dalam penelitian ini memiliki tiga user yaitu administrator, lembaga konservasi yang berperan sebagai kontributor, dan masyarakat sebagai pengunjung web. Fitur yang dimiliki oleh SIG ini antara lain adalah fitur pencarian informasi satwa, pencarian lokasi satwa langka, dan penanda lokasi pada map.Kata kunci: Google API, Satwa Langka, Sistem Informasi Geografis. ABSTRACT Indonesia is a country that has a lot of variety of animals. In fact, they are scattered throughout the islands and has a big diversity in them. However, the wildlife animals were not a concern of the public at all. It can be caused by media that holds the information of this animal is not well. If this is allowed to drag on, then over time the number of these animals will become extinct. Because of this, it is needed to build a media that capable to recording data or information about the distribution of wildlife in Indonesia. This information can be their scientific name and where they lived. Therefore, this study implements a Geographic Information System (GIS) based Google API as a media that is able to record the distribution of species protected by the Indonesian government. GIS can presents the distribution of animals in maps. The SIG can be used by three users, that is administrator, conservation organizations as a contributor, and society as a web visitor. AbstractHumans are often regarded as the only victims that are affected by the armed conflicts. But apparently not only humans, there are also the other living creatures that become the victims of the armed conflicts those are animals included threatened animals. Threatened animals are part of biological diversity that have a high extinction risk level because of the small amount of their populations that requires intensive protection. There are numbers of armed conflicts that happened in the world states where the threatened animals become the victims of it. Threatened animals have to experience the declining of their populations due to the destruction of their habitat, illegal trades of them for financing the conflicts, illegal poaching for their meats, or killed by the weapons that used during the conflicts. The results of this research demonstrates that the International Law through the International Environmental Law and International Humanitarian Law have indirectly provided the regulations about threatened animals in the armed conflict area.Keywords: Threatened Animals; Protection; Regulation.AbstrakManusia sering kali dianggap sebagai satu-satunya korban yang terdampak akibat terjadinya konflik bersenjata. Terdapat beberapa konflik bersenjata yang terjadi di berbagai negara di dunia di mana satwa terancam menjadi salah satu korban dari konflik tersebut. Satwa terancam mengalami pengurangan jumlah populasi akibat rusaknya habitat mereka, perdagangan satwa terancam tersebut untuk membiaya konflik, perburuan liar satwa terancam untuk dikonsumsi, atau terbunuhnya satwa terancam akibat terkena serangan senjata yang digunakan dalam konflik. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa Hukum Internasional melalui Hukum Lingkungan Internasional dan Hukum Humaniter Internasional telah sama-sama memberikan pengaturan terkait perlindungan satwa terancam di daerah konflik bersenjata walaupun bukan merupakan pengaturan yang mengatur secara langsung. The role of Satwik Aahar mentioned in Bhagwat Geeta, Chaturvidh Aahar, and Shad-rasatmak Aahar mentioned in Ayurvedic texts are essential to know what to eat, and Aharvidhi Vidhan, which is explained in Charaka Samhita is necessary to understand how to eat. The mind has three qualities, Satwa, Raja and Tama, which are present in almost everything, including food. Chhandogya Upanishad points out that the food eaten has three layers; sthula amsha, madhyama amsha and sukshma amsha, and what is sukshma (the subtlest part), that is mind. It also states Aahar shuddhau satwa shuddhi. From the purity of food comes the purity of mind. One should always try to increase the Satwa guna because; the persons having Alpa Satwa are more prone to have diseases, as Alpa Satwa indulges Pradnyaparadha, and pradnyaparadha is the root cause of all kinds of illness. So, it is important to achieve Satwa Shuddhi and to achieve Satwa Shuddhi Aahar Shuddhi is important.

This research is motivated by the high cases of illegal trade of protected wildlife in West Kalimantan Province. Animal trade tends to be endangered and included in the endangered list. Actions of animal trade that still occur in West Kalimantan Province indicate the low level of law enforcement and weak supervision by related parties in combating cases of protected animal trade. The purpose of this study is to examine the factors causing the occurrence of illegal trade crimes against protected animals in the West Kalimantan region, and analyze the performance of stakeholders in law enforcement against the illegal trade of protected animals in the West Kalimantan region based on their role and authority. This study uses a survey method that is guided by a questionnaire. The selection of respondents by purposive sampling, data analysis using policy analysis then the data is descriptive with tabulation. The results of the study show that in the period of 2016-2019 there were 49 cases of illegal wildlife trade in West Kalimantan Province, the traded animals are species belonging to protected animals and classified in the Appendix I. category. The dominant protected species traded in the 2016-2019 period originated from anteater species (Manis javanica), Orang-utan (Pongo pygmaeus), and Turtle (Chelonia sp.). The dominant factor in the illegal trade of protected animals in the province of West Kalimantan in the 2016-2019 period was economic factors, followed by motives for the collection of rare goods and consumption. The performance of stakeholders in law enforcement against protected animals in the West Kalimantan region has succeeded in handling criminal cases against protected animals, all of which ended with the execution of the defendant.Keywords: law enforcement performance, protected animals, illegal trading, stakeholders.AbstrakPenelitian ini dilatarbelakangi tingginya kasus perdagangan illegal satwa dilindungi di Provinsi Kalimantan Barat. Aksi perdagangan satwa yang masih terjadi di Provinsi Kalimantan Barat mengindikasikan masih rendahnya penegakan hukum dan lemahnya pengawasan oleh pihak terkait dalam memberantas kasus perdagangan satwa yang dilindungi. Tujuan penelitian ini untuk mengkaji faktor penyebab terjadinya kejahatan perdagangan illegal terhadap satwa yang dilindungi, serta menganalisis kinerja pemangku kepentingan dalam penegakan hukum terhadap perdagangan illegal satwa yang dilindungi di wilayah Kalimantan Barat berdasarkan peran dan kewenangan. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode survey yang dipandu dengan kuesioner. Pemilihan responden dengan purposive sampling, analisis data menggunakan analisis kebijakan kemudian data dideskriptif dengan tabulasi. Hasil penelitian menunjukan kurun waktu 2016-2019 terdapat 49 kasus perdagangan satwa illegal di Provinsi Kalimantan Barat, satwa yang diperdagangkan merupakan jenis satwa yang termasuk ke dalam satwa dilindungi dan tergolong dalam kateogri Appindiks I. Satwa dilindungi dominan yang diperdagangkan pada periode 2016-2019 berasal dari spesies trenggiling (Manis javanica), Orang utan (Pongo pygmeus), dan Penyu (Chelonia sp.). Faktor dominan perdagangan illegal satwa dilindungi di Provinsi Kalimantan Barat dalam periode 2016-2019 adalah faktor ekonomi kemudian diikuti motif koleksi barang langka dan konsumsi. Kinerja pemangku kepentingan dalam penegakan hukum terhadap satwa yang dilindungi di wilayah Kalimantan Barat, telah berhasil menangani kasus pidana terhadap satwa dilindungi yang kesemuanya berahir dengan eksekusi kepada terdakwa.Kata kunci: kinerja penegakan hukum, perdagangan illegal, satwa dilindungi, pemangku kepentingan.

This article intends to take a deeper look at how the pattern of mun?sabah offered by Salwa, this is certainly to see how new ideas are carried out and what is a significant difference between the idea of textual relation carried by Salwa and the theory of mun?sabah initiated by his predecessors such as al-Zarkasy, as-Suy?ti and al-Qa???n who are considered the most authoritative figures in the field of 'ul?mu al-Qur?n. Based on research conducted by the authors concluded that the theory used by Salwa is to use a historical-linguistic approach. So it is not only the pattern textually that Salwa tries to analyze the interrelationship but Salwa also sees how the historical context of the decline revelation and in the analysis as a mixture of themes and events that are interconnected between text and context. That is, Salwa basically tried to see how the pattern of mun?sabah in surah al-Ahz?b in answering political, cultural and social context problems in the early higiers in the Arabian Peninsula.

Satwa liar dilindungi merupakan sumber daya alam hayati yang perlu dijaga. Namun potensi sumber daya alam Indonesia mulai terganggu karena praktek perdagangan satwa liar dilindungi pada berbagai macam modus. Peningkatan kejahatan tersebut terjadi karena faktor ekonomi, lemahnya penegakkan hukum, permintaan pasar yang tinggi, dan pelaku memiliki jaringan nasional dan internasional. Regulasi terkait perdagangan satwa liar dilindungi yakni Undang-Undang Konservasi Sumber Daya alam Hayati dan Ekosistemnya nampakanya belum mengakomodasi subjek pelaku korporasi dan efek jera. Lembaga penegak hukum perlu mengggunakan berbagai peraturan yang ada salah satunya menggunakan instrumen pencucian uang. Penelitian hukum ini membahas perdagangan satwa liar dilindungi sebagai tindak pidana asal dalam tindak pidana pencucian uang dan pertanggungjawaban pelaku perdagangan satwa liar dilindungi berimplikasi tindak pidana pencucian uang dengan metode pendekatan perundang-undangan dan pendekatan konseptual. Berdasarkan pembahasan dapat diketahui bahwa beberapa praktek perdagangan satwa dilindungi sulit terdeteksi, salah satunya karena hasil tindak pidana telah masuk pada legal market. Hal ini menunjukkan pentingnya instrumen hukum untuk menjerat subjek pelaku yang memproses pencucian uang. Hasil dari penelitian dapat disimpulkan bahwa Undang-Undang Konservasi Sumber Daya alam Hayati dan Ekosistemnya dapat memenuhi syarat sebagai tindak pidana asal di dalam tindak pidana pencucian uang. Pertanggungjawaban pelaku perdagangan satwa liar dilindungi dapat berimplikasi pada tindak pidana pencucian uang, sehingga Undang-Undang Pencegahan dan Pemberantasan Tindak Pidana Pencucian Uang dapat menjadi instrumen hukum untuk memberantas kejahatan ini.

Animal Park is a form of ex-situ conservation institution that functions as a forum for preserving fauna outside of their natural habitat which is public. Besides having a conservation function, the Animal Park also has recreational, educational and research functions. Animal Park Planning in Pontianak City is also a form of designation and management of protected areas that are able to pay attention to the sustainability of supporting environmental functions in Pontianak City. This article aims to explain the process of designing a Wildlife Park as a recreation and tourism center regarding the introduction of native animals of West Kalimantan. The theme or design concept that is planned is the consideration of the animal's life behavior without reducing the comfort from the visitor's side. This design provides a boundary between the end zone and the animal zone, as well as the placement of a management service zone that is separate from the visitor zone but can still be connected to each animal enclosure. In the design carried out, the enclosure for the animal habitat uses a membrane structure for primate species and a wide-span structure to form an aviary enclosure for aves species.

Jika dilihat pada pasal 1 angka 1 UU No 5 Tahun 1990 tentang Konservasi Sumber Daya Alam disebutkan bahwa satwa tersendiri adalah binatang yang tumbuh dan hidup di darat, udara dan air yang memiliki sifat liar yang berbeda-beda, bahkan yang dipelihara oleh manusia ataupun hidup di alam bebas. Rumusan dalam penelitian ini sebagai berikut bagaimanakah pengaturan hukum penyelundupan hewan satwa dan bagaimanakah sanksi pidana terhadap penyelundupan hewan satwa. Adapun metode yang digunakan adalah metode penelitian hukum normatif. Diharapkan pemerintah dan masyarakat Indonesia khususnya untuk mau ikut melindungi serta memberantas orang-orang dalam hal perburuan hewan liar yang dilindungi, dimana hal tersebut bertujuan agar hewan langka yang ada disekitar kita tetap lestari.

Abstract Abstract 1342 In mature lymphoid malignancies including T-cell lymphoma and multiple myeloma (MM), aberrant acetylation status has been strongly linked to their tumorigenesis. Thus, the modulation of acetylation through targeting histone deacetylases (HDACs) is considered to be a viable therapeutic strategy. Vorinostat (SAHA) is the first HDAC inhibitor approved by the FDA for the patients with cutaneous T-cell lymphoma (CTCL). Anti-tumor activity of SAHA against CTCL, adult T-cell leukemia/lymphoma (ATLL), and MM cell lines was examined. Most of these cells were found to be sensitive to this drug at IC50 of less than 1–2uM. For further clarification of its mechanism of action, we established five SAHA-resistant cell lines consisting of 3 CTCL and 2 MM using dose stepwise increase method over six months. IC50 of the SAHA-resistant cells was 4-to 14-fold higher than that of their parental cells. These cell lines also showed cross-resistance of 2.8- to 17.5-fold against another pan-HDAC inhibitor, panobinostat (LBH589). Regarding HDAC activity, it was greatly inhibited by SAHA in parental cells, whereas it was only partly inhibited in SAHA-resistant cells. That is, SAHA-resistant cells have lost apart of the HDAC inhibiting function caused by SAHA. Moreover, SAHA-resistant cells showed higher anti-apoptosis ability when exposed with SAHA than their parental cells with acetylation status of histone H3 being remained low. Next, we performed microarray analysis to compare expression levels of various HDACs and other related genes between parental and SAHA-resistant cells. Results indicated that the expression level of HDAC3 being obviously low in resistant cells among various HDACs, which was also confirmed by real-time PCR. In line with mRNA analysis, protein level of HDAC3 was also decreased in SAHA-resistant cells compared with their parental cells, while other HDAC expression remained unchanged. We assumed that HDAC3 could be a main target of SAHA. To examine this possibility, we established both HDAC3 knocked-down and over-expressing cell lines, and examined the sensitivity of these cells to SAHA. HDAC3 knocked-down cells showed obviously SAHA-resistant feature in MTS assay, however, HDAC3 over-expressing cells showed higher sensitivity to SAHA. Knocking out other HDACs (1, 2 and 8) in parental cell lines did not change the sensitivity to SAHA. Thus, our results suggest that SAHA induced apoptosis depends on the inhibition of HDAC3. To search for other possible mechanisms, we screened for the mutations in HDAC2, 3, 4 and 8, but did not find them. Finally, we supposed that HDAC3 expression was epigenetically silenced by promoter methylation in SAHA resistant cells, and attempted to restore HDAC3 expression in the presence of 5-azacytidine, a DNA demethylase. We incubated SAHA-resistant cells with non-toxic levels of 5-azacytidine (4uM) for 9 days, and confirmed that HDAC3 expression was restored during 6–9 days after exposure. When HDAC3 expression being restored, the resistant cells showed higher sensitivity to SAHA. It suggests that hyper-methylation of promoter sequences of HDAC3 contributed to the mechanism of SAHA-resistance. From these results, we conclude that anti-tumor effect of HDAC inhibitors depends on the expression level of HDCA3 in mature lymphoid malignancies, and HDAC3 might provide a useful biomarker for identifying favorable response to HDAC inhibitors, and the overcoming the resistance of HDAC inhibitors. Human behavior can currently threaten the extinction of endangered species which human ambition would like to have but do not care about habitat native population.
