Texto completoThe Community Mental Health Center Project, has as purpose, respond to the need to attend the mental health problem in the country and to have an adequate infrastructure for diagnosis and rehabilitation of affected people. Reinsert the patient in the community through architecture. The necessary research to undertake the project has been based on information provided by the Ministry of Health (MINSA), similar examples of projects in foreign countries and constant visits to mental health centers in Lima, where information has been received from specialized medical staff and of the own patients. This allowed the development of the architectural program, the design criteria and the theoretical framework for the project proposal. For the location of the Center, it was considered an urban location that presented the highest percentage of affected population, and a strong community interaction. The district of Villa el Salvador had these characteristics, as well as being an urban space that has great pedestrian and vehicular accessibility. The project is located in a corner, generating a public square that invites entry to the Center and a strong community interaction. As for the architectural composition, it has been taken in consideration to create spaces for the care and rehabilitation different from the conventional ones, and where the free areas, of circulation and being have been treated as a fundamental part to achieve the welfare of the patients. With all this, the project wants to be a model of architectural solution that contributes to solve this problem in Peru.

Texto completo-- The research examines the factors that are associated with depression inpatients that are cared in primary care facilities ofCusco and Abancay. This also allows us know comparatively general levels of depression, their characteristics by gender, origin, life stage, education level and occupation. We found that the place of origin, educational attainment and occupation, are significant factors associated with depression (p = 0.00 in all three cases). Only one quarter part ofthe total sample does not exhibit the problem, the rest reflects some level of depression, mild depression has the highest incidence, followed by moderate depression and severe than is presented in the fifth of the total study sample. There are higher percentages all levels of depression in the sample subjects from Cusco, in the case of serious level, the presence of depression is twice in Cusco compared to Abancay. At all levels, the depression occurs with highest incidence in the sample of male cusquenians compared to male abanquineans, and in the female cusquenians compared to female abanquineans. Mild depression is higher in adolescents from Abancay compared to cusquenians adolescents, but is higher in adults from Cusco compared to abanquineans adults. Moderate depression is similar in both samples and severe depression is higher in adolescents and adults from Cusco. In general, depression is higher in persons ofschool education, compared to persons of professional education; and is lower in persons with stable work compared with persons who studyor have temporary work. -- Keywords: depression, depression levels, associated factors to depression, Beck Depression Inventory (BDI).

Texto completoResearch about community health workers and ways of seeking self-care almost don't exist in the scientific literature, both in Peru and other Latin American countries. This investigation aims to explore strategies for self-care of a group of people engaged in this work taking into account the holistic concept of health. The methodological design of this study was carried out according to the qualitative perspective, for this reason was necessary to do interviews, these were conducted based on a semi-structured interview guide with each of the participants. The research results show that the strategies of these health collaborators are based in resorting to the social support, which extend to the support provided by public and private institutions in order to improve the quality of life of the community, for that reason they use their abilities, virtues and strengths developed during their life. Also they resort to strategies based on religious beliefs and cultural traditions, mainly their belief in the Catholic faith and rituals related. Also, their behaviors are aimed at preventing risks primarily as recommended by the Ministry of Health. However, it’s evident that participants perform behaviors that affect their health which after result in the acquisition of a chronic disease. Finally participants prioritize work and daily chores; they sometimes postpone curing existing ailments, which they’ll cure when their life is at risk.

Texto completoThe present study aims to validate the Mental Health Inventory (MHI) in its original 38- items version created by Clairice Veit and John Ware in 1983. For this purpose, the internal structure of the instrument was analyzed in a population of 294 university students (M = 21.7, DE = 2). Through an exploratory factorial analysis (EFA) of principal components with oblique rotation Promax, five and two factors were set in order to observe if the dimensional composition of the sub-scales and global scales replicated what was proposed by the theory and existing empirical evidence regarding the dimensions of the MHI-38. The results show a multidimensional composition of five factors, of which four are similar to the original sub-scales (Positive General Anxiety, Anxiety, Depression and Impulsivity) and the finding of the Hopelessness sub-scale is reported. In turn, at the two-dimensional level, the factors found correspond to the original distribution of Psychological Well-Being and Stress. At the same time, both global scales are indirectly and moderately related. Likewise, the correlation of Satisfaction with Life and Positive Affection was moderate, while with Negative Affection it was high. In both cases, the correlations were direct. Finally, the reliability of the global scales is .90 and the subscales fluctuates between .70 and .90.

Texto completoThis study aims to explain one aspect of the experiences of prison population by describing what primary prisoners referred as La pensadora. In order to gather the information, nine interviews were conducted in a penitentiary center in Lima. According to the results, La pensadora is characterized by the presence of intrusive thoughts whose contents are situations where the subject is powerless. Those thoughts are accompanied by a depressive mood, irritability, or an overall reluctance. Many adverse conditions, suicide among them, are associated with La pensadora. The main strategies used by prisoners to avoid or lessen its effects are based on eluding intrusive thoughts by remaining occupied with other tasks. Other less common strategies may guide them to an incipient notion of guilt. Therefore, La pensadora becomes an important issue, not only for the mental health of the inmates, but also for the elaboration of resocialization programs. Keywords: prison environment, La pensadora, imprisonment

Texto completoThe self-care strategies are desirable practices to reduce the stress and to promote the holistic wellness among Clinician Psychologists (Colman, et al., 2016). However, little has been researched about the stress experienced in the context of undergraduate internship and the role of self-care in psychology students. Thus, the present study has the purpose to find about the relationship between the self-care strategies and the perceived stress’ levels in 107 Psychology students who are enrolled in an internship in clinical and health contexts. The sample consisted of 81 women and 26 men, whose ages were between 21 and 35 years (M=24.35 years; DE=2.40), from 3 universities in Metropolitan Lima. The Scale of Self-Care Behaviors for Clinical Psychologists (EAP for its acronym in Spanish; Guerra, Rodríguez, Morales & Betta, 2008) and the Perceived Stress Scale (PSS; Cohen, Kamarck & Mermelstein, 1983) were used. The results suggest a relationship between self-care and perceived stress (r=.36; p<.01). Likewise, significant differences were observed regarding self-care in terms of the type of relationship of couple, the sector of the internship area and the space of emotional support. In addition, significant differences were found on the perceived stress based on university, the student mobilization and the space of emotional support. On the other hand, significant correlations were found between self-care and some academic variables. Subsequently, regression analyzes found that self-care, emotional support and mobilization predicted the stress intensity model (R2=.23, p<.001).

Texto completoABSTRACT: This research has as main objective to identify the relationship between clinical symptoms and coping styles in a group of 46 adolescents between 13 and 17 years old attending to a Mental Health hospital in Lima. The instruments used were the Frydenberg and Lewis (1997) Coping Scale for adolescents (ACS) and the Derogatis (1994) Symptom Checklist SCL 90-R. We found significant correlations between clinical symptoms and coping styles. Depression dimension shows a strong correlation with non-productive coping style and strategies that are part of this group. Solve the problem style and some of the strategies that compose it inversely correlate with depression and anxiety, which also happens to strategies focused on seeking support from others. From the results is constructed a discussion about the implications for the theory and the objectives of this proyect, relationship with other studies and the impact on further research.

Texto completoMental health is the main part of the integral well-being of every person and having a good mental state allows them to develop their activities normally, overcome the challenges that life presents and contribute to the progress of society. However, in Peru, only 1 out of 5 people receives some type of mental health care, showing a critical and complex origin situation due to a combination of different socioeconomic, political and cultural factors. In addition, in adolescents and young people, social factors such as the public stigma that exists on people who suffer from mental disorders and the lack of knowledge of the services and specialists available are barriers that increase this gap. Nevertheless, technology and telemedicine appear as an alternative solution to address logistical, scope and accessibility limitations. In this thesis, through the application of agile methodologies and research elements, it is possible to achieve a better understanding of the problem from the user's perspective, and thus outline the best alternative solutions. Among them, the option is to develop a digital platform whose mission is that more young people can receive mental health care from professionals easily, quickly and safely from any place and time. The generated product will seek to transform the traditional mental health services proposal and this will have an innovative, exponential and sustainable business model. In this way, in the implementation of the platform, it is estimated to have around 300 affiliated mental health professionals and serving more than 1,500 users on average in the next 5 years.

Texto completoBowlby proposes the importance of the attachment bond in the socio-emotional development and mental health of the individual. Having an insecure attachment style and a non-sensitive primary caregiver could lead to the further development of antisocial behaviors, such as criminal behavior. This research aims to describe the relationship between the attachment styles and externalizing behaviors –Aggressive Behavior and Rule Breaking Behavior- in a group of undergraduates in Lima, Huaraz, Cusco, Huancayo, Arequipa and Cajamarca. For this purpose, we evaluated 852 young adults aged between 18 and 2 5 years (M = 20.18, DE = 1.88), using the Relationship Questionnaire (Bartholomew y Horowitz, 1991) and the Adult Self Report (Achenbach & Rescorla, 2003). The results revealed that the anxiety dimension is significantly related to both dimensions of externalizing behaviors. Thus, considering that anxiety is associated with the appearance of negative emotions and affective deregulation, externalizing behaviors would be used by people with anxiety in order to achieve proximity to significant others. Also, it was found that the students from Cusco had the highest scores in both externalizing behaviors. Finally, women had higher levels of aggressive behavior than men, while men had higher levels of rule breaking behavior.

Texto completoIntroduction: Neuropsychiatric disease represents the first major cause of disability adjusted life years in Peru. This dissertation analyzes the data referring to anxiety and depression from the 2016 Peruvian National Penitentiary Census. On 2016, mental health problems were the first cause of years lost to disability in Peru. Internationally, both anxiety and depression have high prevalence among inmates. Objectives: Establish association between depression and anxiety in relation to Early Life Stressors (ELS) in the Peruvian imprisoned population, additional factors associated with depression and anxiety were analyzed. Materials and methods: Secondary analysis of the data from the 2016 Peruvian National Penitentiary Census. The assessed outcomes are anxiety and depression; while the exposure variables are ELS, experienced between the ages of 5-12, such as physical abuse, tutor’s alcohol or illegal drugs consumption, neglect. Multivariable analysis has been executed, through the calculus of adjusted prevalence ratios using Poisson's regression model with a confidence interval (CI) of 95%. Results: Association between ELS and self-reported depression (PR 1.41, CI 1.34-1.49, p<0,05). Similarly, association between ELS and self-reported anxiety was found (PR 1.35, CI 1.28 – 1.42, p<0,05). Conclusions: This paper finds significant association between both mental health issues. The acknowledgement of these factors is important inasmuch as the understanding of them, which may help the optimization of screening methods and later treatment of the imprisoned population.

Texto completoThe present research explores the social support that the Asociación de Policías Discapacitados en Combate por la Pacificación Nacional (National Pacification Combat Handicapped Association of Police Force, APOLDICPAN) gives to its members who were participants of the Armed Internal Conflict (CAI). This population is considered vulnerable because they are handicapped, have been re-victimized by their institution and are recognized as victims by the Plan Integral de Reparaciones (PIR). The Peruvian State has excluded this population by not recognizing the economic and social benefits that are theirs by law. Facts that lead to the lack of institutional support. This is a qualitative study, at an exploratory level and of phenomenological design. The main data collection method was in-depth interviews that used an interview guide as tool. It was found that APOLDICPAN is a referent of support for its members as it provides them of a heroic identity differentiated to other military forces for its historic participation in the fight against terrorism. Furthermore, participants mentioned different types of support being the most valorized the informational one, which is related to the processes that must be followed to get their rights recognized. However, the most demanded type of support was the instrumental one. This study confirms the presence of re-victimization to which the participants are exposed, a state of mental health not attended and a lack of recognition of the benefits that by right corresponds them. The members of the association perceive themselves as in the fight against the State that violates them and against the society that do not acknowledge them as defenders and do not recognize the consequences of their participation in the CAI. In sum, APOLDICPAN is an organization with potential resources that could start a process of institutional empowering.
