This document aims to understand the duties made by the author through the mandatory supervised practice at reception of Savoy Othon Travel (Copacabana - RJ) which is a branch of Othon Hotels chain, from August 2013 to March 2014. Accordingly, the author makes a brief presentation of the hotels chain and the structure of the hotel where the internship was done, reporting the physical and hierarchical structures of the hotel. This document approaches to concepts of internship and how they were employed to the course and to the internship as well. From personal experience of the author, the practical elements of the internship, such as the handling of the program used by the hotel and the duties performed by the receptionist were analyzed. After analyzing the theoretical and practical structure reached the conclusion that the internship in reception, in addition to being the gateway to the hotelier professional into the labor market (by the great number of vacancies), is also an important sector that contributes to formation of the student, since the reception is one of the sectors that are in constant contact with the other sectors. Therefore, in the formation of future managers the practice at reception allows a wider operational view of the hotel as a whole.

Texto completoThe following thesis is about the interior design intervention of the old hotel Savoy, located in the district of Cercado de Lima, as a cultural center and student residence. The main objective of the project is to generate adequate spaces for the student use either in the cultural center or in the residence. The idea of it is based on maintaining and respecting the relationship between interior design, existing architecture and the environment in which it is located. In this way, it’s pursued to rescue the property and adapt it to a new use without disrespecting the history it represents. In order to achieve the objective, an investigation of education in Peru is carried out, focusing on higher education, its current status, evolution and statistics. As well as the growth of universities in the capital and the transport of the city, and the number of abandoned buildings that are located in the center of Lima. Through the design strategies used in conjunction with the PLAM 2035, it seeks to recover and maintain the architectural and urban heritage of the area, which is why the original uses of the hotel are studied and enhanced in the creation of new functional spaces for interaction of the residents and their coexistence. The result is a forgotten building, which is rescued and taken advantage of giving it a use that responds to the original one, respecting the environment that surrounds it and generating public and private spaces for the enjoyment of students, residents and the people of downtown Lima.

Texto completoThe Sardinian restoration, in 1815, aroused a literature that was first devoted to the Savoyan dynasty and which tried to restore its sacredness. As a matter of fact, this situation moved towards the emergence of a mythology whose nature may be questioned. Was this mythology a pure convention or was it based on deeper soul foundations ?The objective conditions of the Savoyan cultural life at the time are known to have shown a constant research for identity in the feudal past. In Savoy, contrary to what happened in France, at first the legacy of the French Revolution was rejected in order to return to the old state of mind. The Academy of Savoy was created in this impetus of cultural restoration, opening widely to a poetry, which would also revive the marvelous medieval. Education, on the other hand, was rendered entirely to the bishops who were anxious to instruct the people in a religious sense. However, despite the romantic personality of Charles Albert, this trend finally collapsed under the pressure of social evolution. Nevertheless, Savoy remained a deeply Catholic region in a remarkable way until the beginning of the 1900s, taking advantage of the arrangements of the Annexation Treaty to preserve its own prerogatives. As its taste for the marvelous focused on local traditions, for a long time Savoy succeeded in keeping ts specificity and rich, shimmering imaginations. In this field, it obtained its inspiration on a literary tradition which was already rich before 1792 and dominated by the work of Francis de Sales. It was also marked by dynastic chronicles and court, or even patriotic, poetry, which appeared in the Renaissance period. Mixing baroque art with the worship of princes and local saints, it brought out the outline of a new mythology from the sixteenth to seventeenth century. Furthermore, Rousseau influenced those who felt nostalgia for an idealized Savoy, perceived as closer to deity than the great cities of the French plains. The landscape was transfigured by a bourgeoning romantic poetry and individuals saw themselves as a summary of the religious history of humanity. As a consequence, the hero became closer to humanity, without losing his links with the deity. The supernatural creatures of the marvelous, pagan or Christian, popular or learned, were also provided with life, connecting themselves with mountains, lakes, princes, people and with all other ordinary realities experienced by the authors. Instead of remaining in abstract and conventional worlds , these creatures inregrated the local life, becoming the expression of a national genius conceived as a secret soul of the Savoyan land, which could even have a thought by itself. Hereafter natural phenomena were regarded as inhabited by divine wisdom, and considered in their overall harmony allowing the existence of an intermediate world situated between the physical world and the divine world and where Providence could communicate and act by itself. A sort of romantic science, similar to the German one, started to develop trying ti test the aims of divinity in the present not only for humanity, as a group, in Europe, but also for the individual, whose own enigmas were touched. This is how a real mythology, alive and moving, emerged in Savoy.Faced with the richness of this inspiration, we may wonder why today these works are disregarded by critics. Among the answers that could explain the situation we may point out the inadequacy of the Savoyan tradition, marked by Italy and Germany, to the standards of French University

Texto completoThe first part gives the historical, sociological, and artistic background of the works and their authors. The history of opera in england is succintly related in one chapter ; the situation of english drama at the beginning of the xixth century in another one, as well as the personal evolution of gilbert before his meeting with sullivan. This is followed by short biographies and portraits of both librettist and composer. The last chapter deals with the history of the savoy operas and of gilbert, sullivan and d'oyly carte's common venture. The second part is composed of systematic studies of the fourteen operas. Each chapter contains an account of the sources and the genesis of the work, a thorough analysis of the plot and the characters, a detailed comparison of fiction as it appears in the librettos and the reality of the victorian period, and appraisal of sullivan's music, based mainly on contemporary and modern critical works, and a review of contemporary papers and magazines showing how the opera was received by the public when it was created. The third part shows that two images of victorian society are given by the savoy operas : a faithful one and a deceiving one. . .

Texto completoDuring the long 19th century, the Savoyard territory stood out for its singularity: at the time of the construction of nations in Europe, it changed nationality and political regime several times. A contact zone between France and the Italian peninsula, the former duchy is alternately on the outskirts of two sovereignties. This context is favorable to the study of changes in the mechanisms and forms of local power through the men who hold them: formal power, represented by the men in charge of the administration of the territory by the central power, and/or informal power , exercised by those who dominate it through their social influence. It is a question of depicting the adequations, the contradictions and the tensions between the imperatives of the central powers in the management of a "province" and the structure of the local society and its interests. This research therefore proposes to identify these leading groups throughout the century, by re-examining the historiography and the effective reality of the notions of notables and elites. From the sociological and prosopographical analysis of this corpus, should follow the establishment of some typical portraits of a transnational group by force. To this end, the project has access to sources that have been little used until now, first of all administrative sources, which are fortunately supplemented by fiscal or notarial sources capable of precisely circumscribing the nature of local social hierarchies. Finally, this project is limited, by the abundance of these sources, to the study of the current Savoyard department, with Chambéry as its center, capital of the former duchy and sensitive relay on the road between France and Piedmont

Texto completoThe objective of our thesis was the systematic study of the architectural evolution of the Castle and Citadel of Nice against the geopolitical backdrop of the Duchy of Savoy from the late 13th century to the early 18th century, covering the work of the medieval master builders to those of the engineers of the modern era. Our research focused on the continuity and differences, and on the complexity of a site that was remodeled throughout the centuries in a quite particular and constrained topography. The concern for space and time was an integral component in the study of this imposing architectural estate, erected at a period when military architecture was undergoing a dramatic evolution. This fortified town was also reexamined as part of a manifold ensemble of fortifications composed of former medieval, modern or intermediate fortified towns, which expanded from the border of the Italian states to that of eastern Provence. In an attempt to revive the image, form, and successive transformations of the now destroyed Castle of Nice, our work drew on the study of texts and iconography, and on a comparative archeological study of the site. The historical reality of the Castle of Nice can therefore reclaim its architectural, temporal, and geographical unity

Texto completoRecent historiography has often considered the artistic policy of Christine de France, duchess and regent of Savoy (1619-1663), daughter of Marie de’ Medici and Henri IV, as decisive in maintaining the stability of the duchy at a critical time when small European states collapsed. However, this vision of an intermediate State surviving the surrounding conquerors (France, Spain) through the skilful artistic policy of « Madame Royale » needs to be revisited. Upon the death of her husband Victor-Amédée I of Savoy, she assumed the regency of her sons, a status which was immediately challenged by her brothers-in-law, princes of Carignan, plunging the duchy into civil war (1638-1642). Christine’s great vision was to carry her royal ambitions as well as those of the House of Savoy, but the soil on which she sowed was largely that of her predecessors who had already laid the markers of the dynastic cultural identity. In their wake, she was the patron of the monumental comittenza, with immediate brilliance relayed by engraving : to endow the town planning of Turin and its « Corona di delizie » of aulic dimensions, offering the prestigious frames of solemn entrances and impressive court festivities ; to be proud of illustrious alliances ; to spread over a prestigious engraved image of the duchy. On the other hand, her relationship with arts shows inequalities, painting or sculpture not innervating her actions and even less her personal appetites : Madame Royale did not embrace the spirit of the « Honnête Femme » of the Republic of Letters while she was in politics a « Femme Forte » at the service of her dynasty. Her long regency, which had nothing to do with the status quo, allowed a salutary stabilization of the State, in an alliance with France which, far from being a subordination, had the effect of ensuring its relative independence. As for her own representations, at the beginning of her reign she used royal imagery in her portraits and then changed course in her mature physical and political age : from her regency to the actual transfer of power to her son Charles-Emmanuel II, she chose a more authentic and devotional definition of herself

Texto completoLiquid foams are a common occurence in our daily lives : in the cappucino cup in the morning, when washing dishes the evening, or when Mentos are put in a carbonated drink. This light material is mainly constituted of air (64% at least) and is an excellent damper for vibrations, since a few layers of bubbles are enough to strongly reduce the intensity of a propagating acoustic wave. At the moment, almost every model used to describe liquid foams focus on long-time behaviour and this dampening property is described only by a few models. To describe these properties, we decide to sudy the individual vibration of a soap film, which is an elementary brick of a liquid foam. By measuring the dispersion relation, and the vibration amplitude as a function of frequency, we can measure the dissipation for a single soap film, which allows us to have a better understanding of the dissipation occuring in a liquid foam

Texto completoThis thesis aims at the characterisation of quasi two dimensionalvortices stemming from turbulent thermal convection in a half soap bubble heatedfrom below. The power law in time for their mean square displacement is also validfor Earth hurricanes. This law allows simple hurricane trajectory prediction with itstrack forecast cone wich compares very well to already available cones. In this way, track prediction uncertainty and track fluctuations around a mean track are linked. The intensity of the soap bubble vortices is also studied by the mean of particleimages velocimetry and shows that their velocity field profiles are well described by aLamb type model. The Lagrangian tracking of fluid praticles in a bubble vortex allowsus to follow its intensification and decline phases. We propose an intensification lawfor both soap bubble vortices and Earth hurricanes. Rotation influence on the vorticesnumber, on their life-time, on their trajectory and on the power law of their meansquared displacement is also gauged. The statistical properties of the temperaturefield fluctuations also seem to change with rotation. The exponent of the temperaturestructure functions present a scaling transition from n/3 to n/2

Texto completoThe Phenomenon of Uniqueness in a Psychotherapy Group The phenomenon of uniqueness in a psychotherapy group was studied in his master‘s degree work. Introduction was dedicated to review the human relationship phenomenon from the philosophical (S.Kierkegaard, M.Heidegger, M.Buber, P.Tilich) and psychological (G.W.Allport, C.R.Rogers, S.M.Jourard, J.Bugental, V.Frankl, A.R.Beisser) perspective. The aim of this work was to explore in what way the phenomenon of uniqueness is experienced in a certain psychotherapy group and define the phenomenon of uniqueness for the certain research group. The method of focus group was used in this research. Focus groups were organized in the context of short-term psychotherapy groups. 13 persons were participating in the focus groups: 11 women and 2 men. 2 focus groups were created, which were managed by the author of this study based on provided plan. The results were processed using A.Giorgi phenomenal method. 10 specific situational definitions of the phenomenon of uniqueness were created, which were used to formulate two ultimate definitions of the phenomenon. Results of the study revealed, that: 1) the phenomenon of uniqueness in a psychotherapy group is complex phenomenon, characterised by large diversity of manifestations; 2) the phenomenon of uniqueness in a psychotherapy group is closely related to universality experience: the uniqueness is experienced together with the universality of the group‘s participants or immediately after it... The issues which have been raised referring to the purpose: What is the process of construction of own space of the people residing in ecovillages? What factors causes contruction of new space? What values are developed during construction of own space? Subject of the research: peculiarities of construction of own space in the ecovillages under research. Theoretical ground of the final project is an aspect of anthropology theory. The methodological basis of the final project consists of the anthropological research methods: participant observation, unstructured interviews, informal conversations, fieldnotes. Data from the official website of the Lithuanian ecological settlements reveal that Lithuania currently has approximately fifteen ecovillages. Such places are selected by people very carefully because the places become the spaces to be filled with different cultural values by the residents, i.e. the residents develop and form their own space. Residents of the settlement strive to develop in their own space the utopian residence model in compliance with the imagined rules and experiences. Reasons to choose such lifestyle are influenced by many factors. Though the people strive to make distance from civilization and society, but construction of own space oddly repeat the same social model. Two important aspects are described in the second part... Texto completoIn the dissertation the combining both the interdisciplinarity and anthropological approach and methodology enables us to have a new look at how questions of place can be linked to migration processes, that is how (trans)migrants connect themselves with place/places in their daily lives. The main questions of the dissertation are: How the international migration transforms (strengthens, weakens etc.) current connections of a (trans)migrant with a place/places (territory/territories) where he or she lived/lives? How (trans)migrational experience makes impact on the construction of sociocultural space? How the formation of “own space” takes place? This dissertation relies namely on the anthropological methodology in structuring and organizing the whole research. The research strategy of particular case - migrants from Lithuania in Northern Ireland (end of 2006 – middle of 2007) enabled the analysis of the phenomenon at a particular point in time. Fieldwork included a combination of research methods: participant observation, semi structured interviews, informal conversations, observation. The theoretical part of dissertation reviews evolution of the term “place” in anthropology, analysis the paradigm of transnationalism and transmigration, the concepts of “home” and “livelihood”, theoretically defines “own space”. Methodological part not only discusses methodological approach and describes evolution of fieldwork, but presents researcher’s reflections as well. Empirical part... [to full text]

Texto completoInstead of expressing, as it is traditionally regarded, the imperial politics in Savoy of Margaret of Austria, regent of the Netherlands, the convent Saint Nicolas of Tolentino in Brou she erected in her dower of Bresse embodies the devotion of her late husband Philibert II, duke of Savoy. The sovereign had received from the last dukes of the eldest branch that unrecognized inclination towards the soaring observant congregation of the Austin Friars of Lombardia, which joined the Renaissance and provided the claustral scheme of Brou. Margaret’s main idée was the search of the Renaissance she had discovered through the Duomo San Giovanni of Torino. Against the incorrect readings of the XIXth century, she was not inspired by Champmol. She entrusted the graves and the church of Brou to the Italianizing French artist Perréal, and only practical impediments prompted her to sign on van Boghem at the end of 1512. His brabantine Gothic’s practice and circle accorded to the Spanish tropism of the burgundian court but around 1524-1525, the arrival of the Renaissance in the Netherlands allowed him to bring mannerist accents. The iconology of Brou reveals its soteriological aim. It magnifies the duke’s devotion and at a second rank, the one of Margaret’s house, but also the duties of the regnum that Philibert and his widow both practiced in different countries. Their acme is the ministry of Justice whose reference is the Christ of the Last Judgment, which once figured on the lost northern glass window of the transept. Margaret signed the work: ruled by a will of compassion and exchange, it induced anyone both to the conversion for one’s own salvation, to intercede for the princes, and to remind through ages the memory of the archduchess, whose exceptional imperial birth had involved her unique life and memorial

Texto completoThe war of the Spanish Succession is the last war fought by Louis XIV. It begins with a succession of astonishing defeats: Blenheim (Bavaria, 1704), Ramillies and Turin (Brabant and Piedmont, 1706), Audenarde (Flanders, 1708). The method known as “new battle-history” lets us temper the traditional vision, which claims that French have been defeated because their armies where led by courtiers that faced two military geniuses: John Churchill, duke of Marlborough, and Prince Eugene of Savoy. This historiographic approach focuses on the battle as an event, and seeks to treat it in all its dimensions: political, strategic and tactical aspects; logistics; how soldiers fight and what they feel; shock wave.Early eighteenth-century warfare is in many ways limited: armies highly rely on their supply sources. Eugene and Marlborough, thanks to their audacity and their talent, are able to speed up the operations, but without changing the way war is fought. There is no single “decisive” battle: the war of the Spanish Succession remains as a war of attrition. Battles are rare and formidable events where a singular fighting experience takes place; all contemporary kinds of combat and violence are to be observed. The importance of a battle is not immediately obvious. Its image takes time to come out. Versailles’ courtiers need to compare official news, private letters, French or foreign gazettes, in order to understand what happened. The king conducts investigations to identify the generals and units that have served well, and those that have not. In the end, it is writers and artists who are in charge of fixing what image of these battles will be left for posterity
