Resumen

Bandung has many historical heritage buildings during the Dutch colonial period. Hotel Savoy Homan is one of the historic buildings in the city of Bandung whose function is still in use today and is a cultural heritage building that must be preserved. Hotel Savoy Homan is the first hotel built in Bandung, located on Jl. Asia Afrika 112, 40262 Bandung City, West Java. In this study, the author uses quantitative methods by collecting data through journals, final assignments, websites, and citing literature studies related to the research. Hotel Savoy Homann had an essential role in the 1995 and 2015 Asian-African Conferences events as a stopover for country delegates. From this research, the Savoy Homann Hotel has a colonial architectural style that developed into the famous Art Deco style of its time by having characteristics on the facade of the building having curved points, flat roofs, luxurious interiors, that there are so many cultural heritage buildings in Indonesia and continues to grow from time to time will also continue to be protected and preserved.

Resumen

The 1661 Savoy Conference has generally been seen as a failure for which Richard Baxter is principally to blame. While it is true that he must share in the responsibility, it should be shared more widely. This article argues that the failure at the Savoy was the end result of tactical errors made a year earlier by the wider Presbyterian leadership who then left Baxter to shoulder the blame alone; and that the restored bishops never had any intention of offering any meaningful concessions at the Savoy.

ABSTRACT:George A. Savoy was born in Cohoes, New York, in 1873. He left the U.S.A. in 1921 to manage the Canadian branch of a large manufacturer of ledgers and looseleaf registers. This company was asked to supply Professor Jasper’s laboratory with rolls of plain unlined paper and it was George Savoy who later developed fanfolded and lined EEG paper, which was first used at the Montreal Neurological Institute. He also had personal contacts with Wilder Penfield concerning their mutual interest in the needs of patients with epilepsy. He was a successful industrialist involved with several charitable organizations funding programmes for people with epilepsy. He was opposed to the sectarianism then prevalent in Quebec, which was unfamiliar to him, and in reaction built his own institution, Dieppe House, a home for people with epilepsy, later renamed «Foyer Savoy». It was to operate without regard to race, language or religion. In 1971, his son Harold and other generous donors decided to create a foundation to support research in epilepsy. The Foyer Savoy was sold in 1988 and the proceeds used to increase the endowment of the foundation. His grandson George M. Savoy is the current president. The fourth generation is also represented by Caroline Savoy, daughter of the president, who joined the board of directors in 1992. The foundation will distribute from $300,000 to $400,000 yearly to researchers from many different countries working in the field of epilepsy in universities and hospitals throughout Canada.

ABSTRACTFollowing the Council of Basel in 1439, which initiated the papal schism between Eugenius IV and Felix V (Duke Amadeus VIII of Savoy), Guillaume Du Fay appears to have resumed his northern connections, leaving the court of Savoy and returning to the patronage of the Duke of Burgundy. This article sheds new light on the timing of the composer's move, and on his continued contact with the court of Savoy during the schism of the 1440s. Examination of liturgical sources from the cathedral of Cambrai and elsewhere brings to light a liturgical and musical anomaly in Du Fay's polyphonic settings of Mass Propers for St Maurice, composed during this period, suggesting that this cycle may have been commissioned from Savoy, although Du Fay seems to have had access only to Cambrai chant sources for its cantus firmi.

Buildings are one of the major inspiration frequently used on design theme for fashion industries.The purpose of this research is to raise the potential of a functional historical building in Bandungby the name of Hotel Savoy Homann. The visual potential of Hotel Savoy was used as inspirationfor fashion products in the form of women's clothing. To represent the value of Hotel SavoyHomann, the writer choosed to use two varieties of surface design techniques which is digitalprinting and embroidery. This research carried out the qualitative method by doing field observationand collecting data from related literature studies. The execution was in the form of explorationsketches from images inspired by the exterior design of Hotel Savoy Homann. The outcomeof this research is the application of digital printing and embroidery techniques on fashionproducts inspired by the building design of Hotel Savoy Homann Bandung whichprovidesfurther alternative choices for fashion products in women's clothing and acquaint Hotel SavoyHamman to citizens of Bandung.

Resumen

The author examines the course, forms and causes of the defeat of the anti-republican uprisings in the lands of the former Duchy of Savoy, annexed to France during the Revolution of the eighteenth century. The aim of the study is to analyse the transformation of popular protest in Savoy over the course of 1793. The events of January–October 1793 are considered in this article in the light of the concept of the “popular counter-revolution”. The annexation of the Savoy to France was strongly supported by its population, but immediately after the introduction of the civil system of the clergy and the circulation of banknotes, the social situation in the region came to a head. The decree of the French National Convention on mass conscription into the republican army also contributed to the social upheaval. The protest had its own characteristics and evolved from a traditional form of rebellion to a local civil war, in which a simple political programme of the rebels also emerged. However, the peasants were unprepared to participate in hostilities, had no military experience, and the forces and resources of the Sardinian army were limited. Realising that the plan to return Savoy under the rule of the king by the end of September 1793 was unworkable, the troops had to return to Piedmont. The restoration of the Republican rule over the rebellious department marked the beginning of a policy of revolutionary terror in Savoy.

Resumen

Although the court of Turin’s role in the new balance of power in Europe during the War of the Spanish Succession is well known, far less is known about the strategic function of its collateral courts, such as the court of the princes of Savoy-Carignano. Based on the correspondence of the Savoy ambassador to Madrid, Costanzo Operti (1690–95), this article focuses on these courts to demonstrate the formal and informal diplomatic interplay among male and female aristocrats from 1640 to the end of the seventeenth century. One such noblewoman, Olimpia Mancini of Carignano-Soissons, was an Italian who grew up in the French court and maintained a close relationship with Louis XIV. As the wife of a prince of the Savoy-Carignano branch, she held important positions in Turin, Paris, and Madrid. Mother to the famous prince and military warrior Eugene of Savoy, after she lost her powerful status in France, she sought to find a place in the Madrid court as lady-in-waiting to Queen Marie Louise de Orléans. Her mother-in-law, Marie de Bourbon-Soissons, played an outstanding role in maintaining the honour and prestige of the court of Carignano.

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui seberapa besar pengaruh dari kualitas website Savoy Homann Bidakara Bandung terhadap keputusan tamu untuk menginap. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah metode survey (explanatory) dengan tingkat eksplanasi asosiatif Responden sebanyak 90 responden. Hasil pengujian statistik baik secara simultan ataupun secara parsial terdapat pengaruh antara kualitas website Savoy Homann Bidakara Bandung terhadap keputusan konsumen. Besarnya pengaruh kualitas website Savoy Homann Bidakara Bandung terhadap Keputusan Konsumen sebesar 56,7% sedangkan faktor lain sebesar 43.3%. Koefisien korelasi dimensi usability dengan keputusan konsumen dengan nilai r sebesar 0,607. Koefisien korelasi antara dimensi interaksi dengan keputusan konsumen dengan nilai r sebesar 0,681, koefisien korelasi dimensi kulitas informasi dengan keputusan konsumen dengan nilai r sebesar 0,620. Nilai koefisien determinasi sebesar 0, 567 atau 56,7% sedangkan sisanya sebesar 43,3% merupakan faktor lain yang tidak diteliti.

Resumen

The cabbage whitefly (CW), Aleyrodes proletella (L.) (Hemiptera: Aleyrodidae), is an important pest in Brassica oleracea L. crops. Little is known about the mechanisms of resistance to CW of savoy cabbage and kale cultivars. Light microscopy (LM) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) analysis were used to determine the relationship between the morphological and anatomical features of savoy cabbage (Brassica oleracea L. convar. capitata (L.) Alef. var. sabauda L.) and kale (Brassica oleracea L. convar. acephala (DC.) Alef. var. sabellica L.) leaves and host suitability to colonization by CW. Two kale cultivars, “Redbor” and “Starbor”, and two savoy cabbage cultivars, “Gloriosa” and “Alcosa”, that differed in the degree of infestation by A. proletella were taken for histological analysis. The lowest infestation by all forms of A. proletella was observed on savoy cabbage cultivar “Alcosa” and kale cultivar “Starbor”. The reduced colonization by cabbage whitefly may be related to the structure of the epidermis and the anatomical features of the leaf. The leaves of “Starbor” and “Alcosa” had more folds in the epidermis, less numerous but larger stomata, and a more compact mesophyll structure compared to “Redbor” and “Gloriosa”. In both analysed species, there was no clear relationship between the thickness of the abaxial epidermal layer, thickness of the lamina, number of vascular bundles, and degree of infestation by the cabbage whitefly. This study identified promising sources of resistance to A. proletella among cultivars of savoy cabbage and kale. Varying infestation by CW was associated with morphological and anatomical characteristics of leaves. Further study is needed to confirm the relationship between insect resistance and leaf surface and morphological characteristics of leaves in a broader range of Brassica spp.

Resumen

This article explores two often poorly connected fields in a quite touchy symbolic conception. On one side is the complex ramification of the County of Savoy and its family therein at a period when Savoy become a Duchy under the protection of the German Holy Empire with the patronage of Saint Maurice, while on the other side is the complex and prolific secular compositions of Guillaume Dufay and its subtle style of performance. In many cases, little is known by Historians about medieval music. Therefore, Musicologists interested in metrics and comparison between manuscripts could easily obliterate the subtle diplomacy of the patrons of this period. To complicate even more, Savoy historians are in France and Italy (with most documents in Latin and French), and Dufay specialists are mainly in England and the United States. This essay also evocates a medieval Black saint, Maurice, considered a positive symbol, an idea not so evident in Savoy nowadays but probably also shortly after in the Protestant Alps, a period when visual representation could be easily destroyed. Hence this study enquires into this controversial subject and finds interesting new materials connected with music. This could be anecdotal if these pieces were not already so well-known and influential in the History of music.

In May 1793, a major popular uprising took place in Haute-Savoie, in the Ton Valley, which had important consequences for the region. At the time of recruitment into the army of the republic, residents of 13 communes of the valley near the city of Annecy entered into an armed confrontation with units of the French army and volunteers of the National Guard. The main slogans of the rebels were the abolition of the civil constitution of the clergy and conscription. The bulk of the rebels were peasants and artisans. The representative of the National Convention M.-J. Herault de Sechelles played a significant role in suppressing the uprising. Herault de Sechelles and the procureur-syndic of the district Annecy J.-C. Burnod. Marguerite Frischelet-Avet stood out especially among the leaders of the uprising. During the suppression of the uprising, the Republicans acted with extreme brutality and without observing any legal procedures. The uprising ended in defeat, but general political and social instability persisted in the Mont-Blanc department during 1793-1794.

Resumen

The historiographical image of Anne of Cyprus (1418–1462), Duchess of Savoy, and her husband, Duke Louis of Savoy (1413–1465), is overwhelmingly negative. The couple undoubtedly encountered serious political difficulties during their reign, but the ‘black legend’ circulating about Anne and Louis since the seventeenth century appears far from justified. It originated with the so-called Chronica Latina Sabaudiae, a text completed shortly after 1487 and probably written by Étienne Morel (c. 1440–1499), a high-ranking cleric who was a supporter of the estranged son of Anne and Louis, Philippe of Savoy (1438–1497). Morel's narrative, its historical and literary context, and its reception in early-modern and modern historiography are examined against the background of contemporaneous Sabaudian and European politics. Morel's polemics seem inspired by the Commentarii genre of historiography cultivated by fifteenth-century humanists such as Enea Silvio Piccolomini. Both the genesis and the reception of Morel's text demonstrate the shifting but unshakeable alliance of historiography and dynastic politics, exemplifying historiography's role in the fabric of power.

Abstract Selected gibberellin A3 (GA3) rates and application dates on yield and harvest efficiency of the savoy spinach (Spinacea oleracea) cultivar ‘Iron Duke’ were evaluated. The most favorable yield response was achieved under fall conditions with 15-20 g GA3/ha applied 7–14 days prior to the anticipated harvest date. When cool temperatures (5° to 12°C) prevailed during the treatment and posttreatment periods, increased GA3 rates and prolonged response times were necessary. Gibberellin A3 did not induce bolting when applied as early as 1 Nov. but applications later than 15 Feb. enhanced the rate of seed stalk development.

Paul Robeson's Othello, first seen in London during the season of 1929–30, stands as a high-water mark of twentieth-century Shakespearean interpretation. Robeson was the first actor of African descent to appear in an extended-run Shakespearean production at a leading West End venue (Ira Aldridge, whose last London appearance came sixty-five years earlier, had made only three brief appearances at major London theatres). Here, Michael A. Morrison examines the circumstances surrounding Robeson's London Othello in 1930 and the far-reaching influence of his achievement on future generations of performers and playgoers. Resumen

The bioactive compounds, as well as the in vitro antioxidant activity of two Savoy cabbage cultivars, Dama and Leticia, grown in west of Spain under similar conditions were identified, quantified and compared. We found that cv. Dama presented in general betters results when compared with cv. Leticia. Cv. Dama presented higher concentrations of chlorophyll a (2.26 mg/100 g fresh weight), total phenolic content (102.71 mg of chlorogenic acid equivalent/100 g fresh weight) and total intact glucosinolates (195.22 µmol of sinigrin equivalent/100 g fresh weight). Thus, cv. Dama exhibited higher values of in vitro antioxidant activity.

Resumen

The degradation of the green pigment chlorophyll in plants is known to yield phyllobilins as highly abundant linear tetrapyrroles. Recently, a split path of the degradation pathway has been discovered, leading to so-called dioxobilin-type (or type-II) phyllobilins. The first characterized type-II phyllobilin was colorless featuring four deconjugated pyrrole units. Similar to the type-I branch, for which yellow oxidation products of the colorless phyllobilins – the type-I phylloxanthobilins – are known, a type-II phylloxanthobilin has recently been characterized from senescent leaves of grapevine. Type-I phylloxanthobilins appear to be actively produced in the plant, are known to possess interesting chemical properties, and were shown to act as potent antioxidants that can protect cells from oxidative stress. Here we report the isolation and structural characterization of a type-II phylloxanthobilin from de-greened leaves of savoy cabbage, which turned out to be structurally closely related to bilirubin. Bilirubin is known to possess high antioxidative activity; in addition, savoy cabbage is considered to promote health benefits due to its high content in antioxidants. We therefore investigated the in vitro antioxidative potential of the newly identified type-II phylloxanthobilin using two different approaches, both of which revealed an even higher antioxidative activity for the type-II phylloxanthobilin from savoy cabbage compared to bilirubin.

Resumen

Produce can become contaminated with human viral pathogens in the field through soil, feces, or water used for irrigation; through application of manure, biosolids, pesticides, and fertilizers; and through dust, insects, and animals. The objective of this study was to assess the survival and stability of human noroviruses and norovirus surrogates (Murine norovirus [MNV] and Tulane virus [TV]) on foliar surfaces of spinach plants in preharvest growth conditions. Spinach plants were housed in a biocontrol chamber at optimal conditions for up to 7 days and infectivity was determined by plaque assay. Virus inoculation location had the largest impact on virus survival as viruses present on adaxial leaf surfaces had lower decimal reduction time (D values) than viruses present on abaxial leaf surfaces. Under certain conditions, spinach type impacted virus survival, with greater D values observed from survival on semi-savoy spinach leaves. Additional UVA and UVB exposure to mimic sunlight affected virus survival on adaxial surfaces for both semi-savoy and smooth spinach plants for both viruses. Human GII norovirus inoculated onto semi-savoy spinach had an average D value that was not statistically significant from MNV and TV, suggesting that these surrogates may have similar survival on spinach leaves compared with human noroviruses. An understanding of the behavior of enteric viruses on spinach leaves can be used to enhance growers' guidelines and for risk assessment with certain growing conditions.

ABSTRACT: The Duke Emmanuel Philibert of Savoy (1528-1580) was a key figure in bringing the Italian wars to an end and also in arranging the signing of the Treaty of Cateau-Cambrésis. His duchy, occupied by France beginning in 1536, was given back to him in 1559 with the exception of various strongholds that remained in French and Spanish hands until several years after the treaty. During that period, important examples of artistic creation commemorating the peace treaty and also the autonomy of the duchy were produced in Savoy. This article explores the interesting configuration of this iconography that underlined the need of self defense during an uncertain peace.
