Background: Febrile seizures are seizures that often occur in children, usually of a non-hazardous nature and do not have a prolonged effect. Febrile seizures most often occur in children under five years of age and are reported to occur in 2-5% of the pediatric population. Febrile seizures are categorized as simple, complex and plus febrile seizures. In some patients, EEG is needed to ascertain whether a true febrile seizure occurs. Objective: This study aims to determine the EEG pattern in recurrent febrile seizure patients at the Child Inpatient Installation of Dr. Soetomo Surabaya. Method:

Two of our febrile seizure cases carried rare variants predicted to have damaging consequences. Combined with some of the variants from the Chinese cohort, these data are compatible with a role for

Abstract Stress hyperglycemia is commonly identified in children with severe illness and previously normal glucose homeostasis. In the pediatric population febrile seizures are reported among stress-related conditions associated with stress hyperglycemia. The objective of this prospective study was to evaluate the possible association between blood glucose level and febrile seizure severity defined by fever degree, seizure type, seizure duration and hospitalization length. Among 167 febrile seizures the prevalence of stress hyperglycemia (blood glucose concentration over 150mg/dl) was 13.22%.

The seizure and behavioral phenotypes, as well as use of non-pharmacologic agents as neuroprotectants in GEFS+, are not well-understood. Fever in infants younger than 2 months of age causes a significant number of emergency department visits and is particularly worrisome because of the potential for serious infection. Management of febrile infants is problematic because clinical observation is not a reliable indicator of serious bacterial illness (SBI), such as bacteremia, meningitis, and urinary tract infection (UTI). Numerous investigators have proposed methods of screening laboratory tests to ascertain the risk of SBI in febrile infants. These screening tests could potentially avoid the invasive and costly sepsis work-up, wh

Subjects are disoriented, and delirious with catatonia signs of mutism, posturing, and repetitive speech. Treatments were ineffective until multiple daily induced seizures (ECT) were shown to be life-saving. A syndrome of nostalgia was also described in French and German armies among subjects pining to death.
