Resumen
The present study examined whether social comparison responses (identification and contrast in social comparison) mediated the relationship between goal orientation (promotion and prevention) and self-efficacy, and whether self-efficacy was subsequently related with a better performance. As expected, the results showed that promotion-oriented individuals – who are focused on achieving success – had higher self-efficacy than prevention-oriented individuals – who are focused on avoiding failure. Only one of the social comparison responses had a mediating role. That is, the tendency to contrast oneself with others who were doing better mediated the relationship between a prevention goal orientation and self-efficacy. In addition, self-efficacy was related to a better performance.

Resumen
This article introduces the need-support model, which proposes that regulatory focus can affect subjective support for the needs proposed by self-determination theory (autonomy, competence, and relatedness), and support of these needs can affect subjective labeling of experiences as promotion-focused and prevention-focused. Three studies tested these hypotheses ( N = 2,114). Study 1 found that people recall more need support in promotion-focused experiences than in prevention-focused experiences, and need support in their day yesterday (with no particular regulatory focus) fell in between. Study 2 found that experiences of higher need support were more likely to be labeled as promotion-focused rather than prevention-focused, and that each need accounted for distinct variance in the labeling of experiences. Study 3 varied regulatory focus within a performance task and found that participants in the promotion condition engaged in need-support inflation, whereas participants in the prevention condition engaged in need-support deflation. Directions for future research are discussed.

Resumen
Purpose – The aim of this study is to contribute to previous research by investigating the principle of regulatory congruence in two-sided advertising messages. Additionally, it addresses the underlying mechanisms of the congruence effect. Design/methodology/approach – The study encompasses two experiments: a two-level between-subjects design, manipulating the message’s frame (prevention vs promotion), while measuring respondents’ chronic self-regulatory focus (prevention vs promotion), and a 2 × 2 between-subjects design, manipulating processing depth (central vs peripheral) and message frame (prevention- vs promotion-oriented), while measuring individuals’ chronic self-regulatory focus (prevention vs promotion). Findings – Study 1 shows that in two-sided messages, the effect of regulatory congruence on attitudes toward the message depends on individuals’ self-regulatory focus: a congruence effect was only found in promotion-focused individuals. This congruence effect was driven by processing fluency. The second study builds on the first one by exploring the absence of a congruence effect found in prevention-focused individuals. Its results show that in prevention-focused individuals, processing depth influences regulatory congruence effects in two-sided messages. Under peripheral processing, prevention-focused individuals have more positive attitudes toward the issue when two-sided messages are congruent with their self-regulatory focus. Under central processing, on the other hand, a regulatory incongruence effect on attitudes occurs. Originality/value – This study complements prior research by examining the validity of the regulatory congruence principle in the context of two-sided messages. Moreover, it addresses the underlying mechanisms driving regulatory (in)congruence effects. As such, our study contributes both to the existing research on two-sided messages and that on regulatory focus.

Resumen
<p>Alliances are subject to heightened instability and while process based explanations are attracting increasing attention (e.g., Ring &amp; Van De Ven, 1994), process based theorizing continues to remain an emergent field of study. In this paper I articulate a process based perspective of alliance instability that is rooted in the motivational orientation of the alliance boundary spanners (Das &amp; Kumar, 2011). The process based perspective exemplifies the micro behavioral view which highlights the importance of individual’s cognitions and actions in shaping alliance outcomes. The paper explicates the linkages between the alliance boundary spanners motivational orientation, the alliance discrepancy model, and legitimacy repair strategies. I postulate that alliance boundary spanners may possess either a promotion focused or a prevention focused self-regulatory system. Alliance boundary spanners with a promotion focus are geared towards maximizing positive outcomes whereas alliance boundary spanners with a prevention focused self-regulatory system are geared towards minimizing negative outcomes. Alliance partners with a promotion focused self-regulatory system will detect outcome discrepancies sooner whereas alliance partners with a prevention focused self-regulatory system will detect process discrepancies sooner. Unfavorable outcome discrepancies are associated with a crisis of pragmatic legitimacy whereas unfavorable process discrepancies are associated with a crisis of moral legitimacy. I discuss the alternative ways in which alliance partners can seek to repair legitimacy. Implications for research and practice are discussed.</p>

Resumen
Although recent studies have explored the antecedents of customer engagement behavior (CEB), few empirical studies have explored the mechanisms that connect these antecedents to CEB. From self-concept perspective, this research uses experimental and survey methods to explore the influence of the type of customer-invested resource (time vs. money) and customers&rsquo; regulatory focus (promotion-focused vs. prevention-focused) on CEB and the mechanisms that underlie these processes. The results of three studies show that promotion-focused customers initiate more recommendations and complaints when time (vs. money) spent in the shopping experience is emphasized, whereas this effect does not exist for prevention-focused customers. A self-concept connection mediates the moderating role of regulatory focus in the relationship between types of resources and recommendations, whereas this mediating role of self-concept connection does not exist with complaining behaviors. In summary, the influence of customer-invested resources on CEB varies according to a customer&rsquo;s regulatory focus.

Resumen
Background: In Western healthcare policies, promotion of self-management of patients is an important topic. Currently, there is also a worldwide interest in the integration of complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) and conventional medicine into integrative medicine. This article explores the contribution of anthroposophic medicine (AM) to the promotion of self-management of patients. Material and Methods: The scientific literature on concepts of, evidence on and experiences of patients with AM was explored. Results: The AM approach contributes to: (1) a patient-centered, collaborative promotion of patient self-management by means of application of basic values (equivalence, servitude, and presence of mind) and specific methods; (2) a better coping with health-related issues by providing a spiritual worldview that serves as a coping strategy; by treating patients in such a way that they (further) develop self-regulating functioning, both on the physiological and the psychosocial level, thus enabling the self-management of disease-related symptoms; and by treating with (non-verbal) therapies that improve emotion-focused coping skills; and (3) a better self-monitoring of: one's own activity during treatment and in dealing with treatment- and health-related issues, and the physiological and/or psychological responses to these (self-reflection) activities. Conclusion: AM provides specific contributions to promoting self-management of patients.

Resumen
Purpose In this study, self-leadership strategy serves as a self-regulatory mediating mechanism of individual differences in predicting individual creativity because it is related to actions intended to lead their own goal-directed activities. The purpose of this paper is to explore the boundary conditions of the effect of regulatory focus on employee self-leadership behaviors. Design/methodology/approach Considering the contextual influence, cross-level moderating effect of empowering leadership on the relationship between the promotion (prevention) focus and self-leadership has been examined. The research data were collected from 441 employees of 65 work teams from three software companies located in Northern Taiwan. A time-lagged design by implementing three time surveys was applied to minimize potential problems of cross-sectional design. At Time 1, employees completed the measures of promotion focus, prevention focus, empowering leadership, and individual-level control variables. At Time 2, employees reported the extent of their self-leadership at work. In the final survey, team leaders assessed the individual employee creativity. Findings This study concludes several findings. When self-leading behavior-focused strategies are considered as mediators, the indirect relationships that promotion focus and prevention focus had with individual creativity were confirmed. As an influential team-level indicator, empowering leadership could moderate the relatedness between employees promotion-focused strategies and behavior-focused strategies that positively influenced on individual creativity. Originality/value In this study, responding to the call by De Stobbeleir et al. (2011) to examine how employees actively manage their creative performance, the author zoomed in on self-leadership strategies and how these strategies relate to actual creative performance.

Resumen
The investigation of mindfulness has increased significantly over the past decade regarding its efficacy as a clinical tool, particularly in the treatment of depression. Mindfulness is often conceptualized as a mental state characterized by present-moment, non-judgmental attention and awareness. Past researchers have suggested that mindfulness is linked to reduction of self-rumination (i.e. maladaptive self-focused attention to one’s self-worth) through promotion of concrete focus and inhibition of automatic elaboration of intrusive thoughts. Moreover, mindfulness also promotes low-level construal thinking (i.e. concrete thinking) which competes against high-level construal thinking (i.e. abstract thinking). Researchers have proposed that self-rumination involves high-level construal of the self and others, which could increase the likelihood of experiencing negative moods. On the other hand, mindfulness may potentially promote self-reflection (i.e. adaptive self-focused attention to the self) while inhibiting self-rumination. The purpose of this paper is to propose a research idea that will explore the relationship between mindfulness, self-rumination, self-reflection, and depressive symptoms (i.e., low mood, anhedonia or ability to feel pleasure, and changes in sleep). The findings of the proposed research may have significant implications for treatment of depressive symptoms and for promotion of positive outcomes such as mitigation of self-rumination and enhancement of self-reflective processes through potential effects of mindfulness.

Resumen
Following past findings on employment interviews, this study hypothesized applicants would have a preference for using self-promoting tactics of impression management over other focuses. Self-reports of impression management tactics were collected from 124 applicants who had interviews for screener positions with the Transportation Security Administration. Contrary to the hypothesis, analysis indicated participants reported they used more ingratiation tactics attempting to praise the interviewer than self-promotion tactics which focused on their own accomplishments. Special qualifications for security jobs which required well-developed perceptual abilities and the controlling structure of the interview context were perhaps responsible for present results differing from prior findings.

Resumen
Engaging consumers in a firm’s prosocial initiatives can generate favorable responses. As such, cause-related marketing (CRM) advertisements typically employ various content and design elements to engage consumers. However, the appropriate integration of advertising elements has gained little research attention. To fill this void, this study focuses on the joint effect of benefit type (self-benefits vs. other-benefits), message content (prevention focused vs. promotion focused) and visual design (cute vs. aggressive) on customers’ CRM engagement. While previous research suggests that emphasizing self-benefits (vs. other-benefits) of giving is more effective, our findings indicate that the effectiveness of self-benefit appeals is contingent on the fit between regulatory focus of the message and visual design. This study contributes to the growing literature on CRM by illuminating the interplay of various advertising elements and providing guidelines for hospitality managers in promoting CRM campaigns. Additional theoretical and managerial implications are discussed.

The objective of this study is evaluate the increase of monetary promotions effectiveness without the need to increase the discount offered by them. It was analyzed as influencing variables of promotions´effectiveness the individual self-construal feature and hedonic perception of the product offered. Thus, the studies of Barone and Roy (2010b) and Winterich, Mittal and Swaminthan (2014), wich adressed two types of promotion (inclusive promotion, focused in groups, and exclusive promotion, focused in the individual) and their relation with the self-construal of Independence and interdependence of the individual were replicated. In a first experiment, the results were similar, indicating that the type of promotion and self-construal Interact and optimize customer response to promotions. Extending the influencers of this relationship, the degree of product´s hedonic perception was included as a variable and a second experiment was conducted. The products with greater hedonic perception optimized the performance of inclusive promotions for interdependent people. The third and fourth experiments were carried out to analyze the role of hedonic perception with different levels of discount offered, given the proven influence in the second experiment and the theoretical basis. The aim of the last two experiments was to identify a lower performance when a larger discount was offered to products with greater hedonic awareness. However, only an interaction between the variables was found, without been able to identify variable´s trends in the performance of the promotions. Thus, the evidence obtained in this work showed that sale promotions may be more effective performing the congruence between the individual´s profile, product awareness and promotion type with different levels of exclusivity, without the need to increase the magnitude of the discount offered.

Wheatley, Malcolm. "An evaluation of the efficacy of promoting the use of problem focused coping skills in repetitive deliberately self-harming adolescents". Thesis, University of Leicester, 2000. http://hdl.handle.net/2381/31304.

Texto completo
Resumen
Only rarely is it necessary to detain a troubled adolescent under the Mental Health Act (1983). Frequently the more disturbed adolescents will be placed in specialist adolescent secure inpatient facilities. Many of these young people present a primary risk to themselves in the form of serious self harm and potential suicide. The present research project seeks to investigate the therapeutic value of teaching problem focussed coping skills to deliberately self-harming adolescents. The six individual participants included in the project show a mixed response to the intervention. Three participants demonstrate a good response to the intervention as measured by frequency of self harm. However, follow-up data on one of these participants suggests a relapse of self harm after the end of the intervention. Psychometric measures of symptomatology show very limited convergence with reduction in self harm. However, assessment of coping responses at pre and post intervention suggests that the observed reduction in frequency of self harm is associated with the development of more adaptive coping responses. Of the remaining three participants, two fail to demonstrate a response to the intervention, and the third failed to engage in the intervention. The limitations of attempting to evaluate a specific and relatively discrete intervention in the case of complex and challenging patients are discussed. However, the results suggest that coping skills interventions are a necessary and vital component of an effective therapeutic programme for self harming adolescents and further refinement and integration with other therapeutic modalities may substantially improve the prognosis for some of our societies most damaged young people.

Zingmark, Magnus. "Occupation-focused and occupation-based interventions for community-dwelling older people : Intervention effects in relation to facets of occupational engagement and cost effectiveness". Doctoral thesis, Umeå universitet, Arbetsterapi, 2015. http://urn.kb.se/resolve?urn=urn:nbn:se:umu:diva-100064.

Texto completo
Resumen
Background  Occupation-focused and occupation-based interventions can potentially promote occupational engagement among community-dwelling older people, but there is limited evidence to identify the most effective and cost-effective interventions. For independent-living older people, there is a lack of evidence to determine if occupation-focused and occupation-based interventions have an effect on their occupational engagement. For older people who need assistance because of bathing disabilities, there is limited evidence of the effects of occupation-focused and occupation-based interventions on their occupational engagement or for reducing or omitting their need for assistance. Finally, there is limited evidence to determine if occupation-focused and occupation-based interventions implemented for community-dwelling older people are cost effective. Aim The aim of this thesis was to evaluate the effects and cost effectiveness of occupation-focused and occupation-based interventions for two groups of community-dwelling older people, independent-living, community-dwelling older people and older people with bathing disabilities. Method Studies I and II were based on an exploratory randomized controlled trial. One hundred and seventy seven persons, 77–82 years, single living, and without need for home help were randomized to a no-intervention control group or to one of three occupational therapy interventions focused on promoting occupational engagement: an individual intervention, an activity group or a discussion group. In study I, effect sizes for leisure engagement and ability to perform activities of daily living (ADL) tasks were estimated for each intervention in relation to the control group to identify the most effective intervention at 3 and 12 months after baseline. In study II, the effects on quality adjusted life years (QALYs) and the total costs for the intervention, social services provided by the municipality and health care were used evaluate cost-effectiveness. Study III was a quasi-experimental clinical trial and included 95 persons, 65+, who had applied for municipality-based home help with bathing. For participants in the intervention group, occupational therapists implemented occupation-focused and occupation-based interventions. No occupational therapy intervention was implemented for those in the control group, but they were allocated home help services if judged to need it based on an assessment by a municipality care manager. Evaluations of ADL ability, self-rated health and allocated home help were implemented at baseline and after 15 weeks. Study IV involved the use of decision-modeling based on a five state Markov model that included levels of dependency in ADLs, place of residency and death. Probabilities for transitions between states in the model, QoL scores and societal costs for each state were derived from previous research. Overall, the model was based on research indicating that more severe levels of dependency reduced QALY scores and increased societal costs. Previous trials have provided evidence that an occupation-focused and occupation-based intervention implemented to reduce bathing disabilities increased the probability of independence of home help. The Markov model was used to evaluate cost-effectiveness over 8 years for an intervention compared to no intervention. Results The results of study I indicated that each intervention had a small positive effect on minimizing a decline in leisure engagement and/or ADL, but no intervention was clearly superior. In study II, the results indicated that the interventions delivered in a group format positively affected self-rated health. The discussion group was the most cost-effective intervention. The results of study III indicated that the intervention had no effect on ADL ability or self-rated health. There was, however, a large difference in the allocation of home help at follow up, indicating that the intervention was effective in reducing dependency on home help for bathing. The results of study IV indicated that compared to no intervention, the intervention resulted in a positive accumulation of QALYs and lower costs for every year during the entire 8 year period. Conclusion This thesis provides evidence to support the implementation of occupation-focused and occupation-based interventions for independent-living, community-dwelling older people in order to reduce their decline in occupational engagement and improve their self-rated health; the interventions also have the potential to be cost effective. This thesis also provides evidence that an occupation-focused and occupation-based intervention implemented for older people with bathing disabilities was effective in promoting independence from home help for bathing. Finally, an occupation-focused and occupation-based intervention that increased the probability of being independent of home help for bathing had a positive impact on the long term accumulation of QALYs and reduced societal costs and, therefore, can be considered very cost effective.

Applicants employ Impression Management (IM) tactics to build positive images and to receive favorable interview evaluations. Among various IM tactics, self-promotion is one of the most frequently used and the most effective tactic in employment interviews. Although self-promotion has been defined as positive statements to describe oneself, one’s future plans, or one’s past accomplishments (Stevens &; Kristof, 1995, p. 589), research on self-promotion was exclusively focused on one’s past achievements. The present study adopted the framework proposed by Tormala, Jia, &; Norton (2012) and investigated the effects of past-achievement oriented and future-potential oriented self-promotion on interview evaluations. In addition, this study examined whether the relationships between the two self-promotion tactics and interview evaluations would be influenced by two moderating variables, felt accountability and task significance. Two hundred and thirty-seven real interviewer and applicants participated in this study and filled the questionnaires. Results showed that past-achievement oriented self-promotion was positively associated with interview evaluations. No significant relationship was found between future-potential oriented self-promotion and interview evaluations. Moreover, felt accountability and task significance did not moderate the aforementioned relationships. Supplementary analyses and discussions were provided to provide theoretical and practical suggestions for both interview researchers and practitioners.

Resumen
The goal of this project was to utilize social modeling, one of the antecedents of self-efficacy, to determine whether participants from The University of Texas Division of Housing and Food Service (DHFS) who chose to view a bilingual exercise role model video on YouTube increased exercise self-efficacy or exercise behaviors, compared to those who did not. The message from their coworkers featured in the video was simple: “If I can do this, you can, too,” and personal stories and success strategies were blended together to encourage and motivate viewers. The video compilation highlighted specific success strategies, in addition to employees sharing stories about what motivated them to change, or barriers they had to overcome in order to succeed. The video clip included both Spanish and English speakers, and the alternate language translation appeared as subtitles in all frames. Participants completed surveys prior to the launch of the role model video and again after four weeks (N = 113). Neutral promotional materials, both print and electronic, were disseminated to generate awareness about the video and to compare the relative effectiveness of different techniques. E-mails were associated with the greatest spikes; YouTube tabulated 210 unique views during the four weeks. Coworker word of mouth was the primary way participants heard about the video for those who watched (52.8%) and those who did not (33.6%). Despite concerns that participants would not watch the video, 46.9% of the participants did so. Most (88.7%) of those who watched the video were able to recall specific story details, indicating the use of YouTube as a delivery platform for health interventions is promising. Mastery of exercise was the strongest predictor of exercise-self efficacy and exercise; exercise self-efficacy did not emerge as a key predictor variable. There were no differences in exercise levels, exercise self-efficacy, social support, or collective efficacy between those who watched the video and those who did not. While the exercise role model video was well-conceived and developed, allowing participants to control exposure without associated exercise sessions was not sufficient to bring about a measurable change in efficacy beliefs or exercise behaviors.

Resumen
Children living in special circumstances due to migration or refugee status, or being of Gypsy, Roma, or Traveller ethnicity, have extra health needs and difficulty in accessing universal and specialist health services. Migrant, refugee, and Traveller children belong to diverse ethnic and social groups, but share characteristics which increase their need for targeted health promotion. All groups are subsections of the population with poor self-reported health and access to health services, and higher numbers of dependent children. It is well recognized that they experience discrimination and social exclusion which adversely impacts health. There is overlap between groups, for example, refugees are migrants who have left their country of origin to avoid persecution, and Roma are migrants who are of Gypsy ethnicity. This chapter identifies the reasons why children from these groups require focused health promotion; it summarizes their health needs, describes interventions to improve their physical and mental health through the child health programmes, and discusses factors that influence their ability to access preventive services.

Resumen
A tide of high-quality television drama is sweeping the world. The new transnational television series has developed not only global appeal but innovative new modes of production, distribution, and reception. Nowhere is the transnational exchange of television drama more vital than between Britain and the United States, where it builds on more than sixty years of import, adaptation, coproduction, and fandom. This edited volume explores the transatlantic flow of television drama, focusing on key programs, industry strategies, critical debates, and audience reception, from an international roster of scholars and researchers. The chapters explore some of the most widely discussed programs on the transatlantic circuit. The book's first part focuses on media industries, tracing the history of transatlantic exchange and investigating contemporary practices such as coproduction, digital distribution, global partnerships, promotion, and branding. The second part concentrates on specific television texts and their negotiation of meaning across cultural contexts, exploring critical issues in the creation of transnational drama, such as heritage, proximity, performance, and self-reflexivity. Part III turns to the lively sphere of transatlantic fandom and commentary, including fan conventions, fan fiction, the role of both traditional and social media, and fan strategies for negotiating cultural differences. Transatlantic Television Drama provides a wide-ranging analysis of a phenomenon at the forefront of today’s television universe. It is focused on the serial dramatic programs that have gained the bulk of critical and popular attention and is particularly concerned with the impact of digital technologies on the production, distribution, and reception of television drama.

Resumen
The prolific use of social media platforms, such as YouTube, has paved the way for the potential consumption of inappropriate content that targets the vulnerable, especially impressionable adolescents. The systematic review of literature has identified 24 papers that focused on the “dark side” of YouTube for adolescent users. The analysis showed that eight themes emerged: the glamorization of smoking, the promotion of alcohol use, videos that focused on body image/health, videos on bullying, self-harm/suicide, advertising, drugs and general vulnerabilities. The results revealed that videos that contain smoking and alcohol frequently feature sexualized imagery. Smoking videos also frequently feature violence. Smoking and alcohol are also often featured in music videos. The analysis also showed that researchers call for awareness, more strict advertising guidelines and promotion of health messages especially in terms of body image/health, self-harm/suicide and bullying. It is recommended that parents regulate the YouTube consumption of their younger adolescent children, as children do not always understand the risks associated with the content consumed, or might get desensitized against the risks associated with the content.

Resumen
Chapter 2 presents the theory behind Goal Focused Positive Psychotherapy (GFPP), a technique that facilitates clients’ thriving by creating a happier, meaningful life. Psychotherapy can help clients to enjoy a lifetime of well-being and growth toward their meaningful, virtuous goals through positive emotions. The Broaden-and-Build Theory of positive emotions serves as the change mechanism for GFPP. It is important to select goals for therapy based upon client values and personal meaning (approach goals and intrinsic goals). Using clients’ personal strengths (including their culture) is of central importance, as is the promotion of hope in usually demoralized clients. The implicit theory of personal change or the growth mindset includes the belief in neural or brain plasticity. Self Determination Theory sets out competence, relatedness, and autonomy as the three determinants of motivation and the fundamental psychological needs.

Cardiovascular diseases are chronic diseases with the highest morbidity and mortality rate worldwide. The high number of hospital admissions for coronary artery disease and the low adherence to cardiac rehabilitation programs constitute an opportunity for nurses to develop educational interventions aimed at health promotion, health literacy, empowerment, and accountability of the patient's abilities for an effective self-care. Nurses need to understand chronic patient's priorities and implement patient-centered care considering that caring for patients with chronic disease requires interventions focused on individual human responses. Therefore, the intention of this chapter is to provide an overview of the impact of educational nursing interventions on health literacy and patient empowerment as a method to improve self-care skills that are necessary for dealing with chronic disease.

Resumen
This chapter presents a novel pedagogical approach of “remote service learning” (RSL), which was applied in an undergraduate health degree program at an Austrian university. Remote service learning is a form of active blended learning that combines academic learning with practical experience and social commitment, using a range of tools and methods from online didactics. Drawing on emancipatory pedagogies such as transformative learning, an RSL-focused course pursues the ambitious goal of promoting reciprocal empowerment, that is, the promotion of mutual educational processes. “Reciprocal” refers to all stakeholders involved in the course, directly or indirectly: university students, the local community, the Austrian NGO, and the educator. Survey and qualitative data results have shown that the fundamental triad of learning, acting, and reflecting in remote service learning not only leads to a deeper understanding of the course content and discipline but also increased self-awareness, empathy, and a heightened sense of the highly complex social realities in different parts of the world.

Resumen
David M. Shoup was the twenty-second commandant of United States Marine Corps (1960-1963). An R.O.T.C. graduate, he began his military career in 1926, and would earn the Medal of Honor for his courageous leadership at the Battle of Tarawa during the Second World War. After the war, Shoup developed a reputation as a highly effective institutional reformer, someone who skirted self-promotion and political machinations, and instead focused on mission. In the years before he became commandant, Shoup served as Inspector General of the Marine Corps. Essential to his professional success was his authentic leadership style, which led subordinates to follow him and superiors to depend on him. A critical element of his authentic nature was keen self-awareness, including an understanding of how his early life experiences in Indiana shaped his core values, of honesty, fairness, responsibility, and commitment. Equally important to his authentic leadership was an independent-mindedness and a determination to act in accordance witl1 his moral code, regardless of the consequences. Throughout his Marine Corps career and even in retirement, Shoup utilized his self-knowledge and heightened sense of integrity to govern his everyday conduct and decision-making.

Resumen
Up to 1939, the BBC followed a paternalistic music programming policy that sought to educate as well as to entertain, airing a high proportion of art music. When war was declared in 1939, the Corporation’s policies reversed, aiming to unite the nation and maintain morale. Shows focused on popular and light music, and the BBC developed alternative programming approaches, in particular the promotion of personal choice. Series like Forces Music Club, Forces’ Choice, and Forces’ Favourites, continuing after the war as Family Favourites and Two-Way Family Favourites, popularised a formula in which listeners requested gramophone recordings to be aired. Thus, when Roy Plomley’s Desert Island Discs launched in January 1942, it followed in a line of war-time, listener-led gramophone programmes; unusually, only this one featured musical choices of celebrated personalities. Little could anyone predict that DID’s programme formula would long outlast the policies and conditions of the BBC at war.

Resumen
Self-management interventions focus on components such as information, medication taking, mood management, and practical strategies for support in daily life. This chapter argues that, in addition to these strategies, fostering hope is important to effective self-management in both physical and mental health. Hope is a cognitive set, focused on the future, and is operationalized as cross-situational goals and behaviors to achieve these goals. A unique intervention, built on positive psychology and hope theory, is described to exemplify the evidence and application of these concepts. The “Help to Overcome Problems Effectively” (HOPE) program’s design, content, and outcomes are provided. Further research is suggested, focusing on exploring hope as a mechanism for change.

Entrepreneurship is considered as a driving force for employment and economic growth. Attending to the current problems of unemployment in our societies the importance self-employment and, consequently, the concept of entrepreneurship, resulting in its increasingly interesting and necessary study. The purpose of this research is to examine through a content analysis, the information on entrepreneurship, provided by websites of local authorities. To measure this information, attending to the limited previous literature on the subject, we propose a model supported on the cluster analysis. The cluster's definition was based on the results achieved through a set of indicators supported by relevant information and adjusted to the objectives, supported in papers and documents containing the dimensions to be considered in entrepreneurship policy. The results achieved highlights that the information provided to entrepreneurs by municipalities is scarce and is focused on the resources and communication with entrepreneur.

Resumen
As autoethnography and other methods for self-as-subject research continue to increase in use across doctoral education, this guide proposes to inform the methods in this area specific to critical autoethnography for doctoral scholars desiring to conduct the many forms of social justice research. This includes indigenous research, contemporary feminist research, and arts-based research, which have also seen rise across dissertation research among many disciplines. While many works exist to describe critical autoethnography within specific contexts, few research guides examine critical autoethnography specific for use by the doctoral scholar and specific examples across research focused on societal change and/or disruption of existing power dynamics, lack of parity, or historical trauma from acculturation and/or dispossession. Thus, this chapter offers a concise research methods resource for doctoral scholars and their research supervisors to facilitate use of critical autoethnography across disciplines and among diverse research problems of inquiry.

Resumen
Children's gender perceptions are actively formed in preschool age and are an integral component of person's gender identity. The formation of sexual identity of a child continues from 2 to 7 years, and the formation of his/her imagination occurs in the process of socialization through: identification, imitation, following, modeling, direction, self-determination, encouragement, self-acceptance, self-reflection, cognitive dissonance. Child masters the social norms, patterns of behavior and cultural values of his/her nation. The gender approach to the upbringing of the preschool children should be focused on the formation and establishment of equal, gender-independent opportunities for self-realization of the individual. However as practical experience shows, the gender component and its methodological data are insufficient in terms of the content of preschool education. In preschool institutions, gender education takes place spontaneously, educators use the traditional approach to forming child's self-esteem and his stereotypes of self-perception only on the basis of gender, so it is important today to pay more attention to gender education and socialization. Experimentally it has been investigated the peculiarities of gender and age identification of the preschoolers of the preschool institution of a combined type #9 of the city of Chernivtsi. According to the research, the greater part of children of 5-6 years old are aware of their belonging to the male or female sex, having the already formed gender identity. Gender perceptions of preschool children are gender-appropriate: girls’ - feminine, and boys’ – masculine. In addition, they are stereotypical: boys have instrumental role, girls-expressive.

Resumen
The mental health of adult women is an important attribute of their motherhood. Weakening of mental health poses a threat to activities in the field of self-care and healthy development of their children. Even under these conditions of health disadvantage, women-mothers remain as the main mediators of health-promoting habits for their children, thus they become theirs first educators. The health literacy of these women also plays a role in this regard. For this reason, it is crucial to provide these women with sufficient special education that takes their individual needs into account. This research project is focused on finding connections between the mental health disorder of mothers, their health literacy with manifestations in the field of health-promoting behaviour, and with the need for support in the relevant area of childcare by professionals and close family members. The author will present an overview of research focused on this issue as well as her own proposal for a research solution, which received the support of the Charles University Grant Agency for the years 2021-2022.

Resumen
This contribution presents some aspects of the Department Interdisciplinary Research Project (PRID) of Roma Tre University. The main aim of the project is to define an innovative e-learning integrated didactic model that can promote the acquisition and development of skills for Lifelong Learning (European Parliament &amp; European Council, 2008). To this end, the implementation of the following essential variables and components of the Integrated Model is a priority: 1) the learners’ motivational involvement; 2) the quality of the experience of immersion within a virtual environment; 3) evaluation and self-evaluation practices. Considering the original model successfully experimented in the Degree Course in Education Sciences at “Roma Tre” University (Domenici, 2016) and particularly focused on evaluation and self-evaluation processes, we propose an implementation of so-called affective usability of the e-learning platform by creating relaxing, stimulating and aesthetic online environments, promoting a greater immersive capacity. To this must be added the students’ use of advanced ICT programs enabling them to experience scientific demonstrations and experiments in order to acquire a scientific mentality through the use of Context Simulation Tests and Virtual Didactic Laboratories (VDLs). The effectiveness of implementing the FAD e-learning system in acquiring the scientific thinking modality will be empirically assess.
