Texto completoLilong settlement, as a low-rise, ground-related housing pattern, has many advantageous features: hierarchical spatial organization network, separation of public and private zones, high degree of safety control, strong sense of neighborly interaction and social cohesiveness, and so on. These factors make the lilong neighborhoods a pleasant place to live and hence they are loved by local populace.
This thesis traces the evolution of lilong settlement forms in response to social transformation, and analyzes its indigenous design features and urban characteristics. As an ultimate goal, this thesis also explores the key characteristics of this settlement pattern, and the valuable experience that could be drawn as reference in contemporary housing design.

In the recent decade, China has been facing serious housing shortages and inequalities in the urban sector. Shanghai, the largest and the most congested city in the country, represents housing problems of China in its extreme. Based upon the situation of this city, the thesis demonstrates the working of China's urban housing policy: its achievements in eliminating urban slums at the early stage and its failure of providing adequate housing later on. The analysis of the housing problems is focused on the notion that housing should be a universally provided welfare commodity. A variety of negative effects resulted from this notion are broken down to illustrate: i) low priority and of investment and low production; ii) inequalities in distribution; iii) heavily subsidized rents; iv) difficulties in cost recovery; v) "stereotyped" new residential construct ion. In the light of the analysis, the thesis discusses the current experiment in housing policy reform. Although the direction of the reform toward commercialization seems appropriate, the actual remedial policy provides only a temporary relief of the housing shortage but complicates inequalities in the urban sector. The argument of the thesis is that practical reforms should challenge the investment pattern and the distribution structure which have together led the problems. A combination of market and non-market methods to channel state housing services and subsidies to different income is suggested as a more effective way. In addition, the reform of policy will inevitably have its impacts on architectural design. The aim of the thesis is to provide an overview of housing development in China. It shows that China shares with many industrializing countries a shortage of housing and housing inequality in the urban sector. Its housing problem, however, is brought about by a peculiar set of policy directives and institutional arrangements that differs entirely from many countries. The study provides a reference for future policy formulation in China.

Texto completoThis monograph dedicated to the Expo 2010 Shanghai and it contributes to the general history of World Expos. It discusses the history of China’s participations in the World Expos and the contemporary effects of Expo 2010 Shanghai from multiple aspects.Firstly, it aims to trace the history of China's presence in the World Expos (from 1851 to 2018) by attempting to reproduce the of the country image of China that wanted to be shown to the world, but also to measure the impact of Chinese domestic politics on this international presence. Relative Chinese documents, including unpublished ones have been mobilized for this purpose.Secondly, the focus is on the Expo 2010 Shanghai, which was held within a very short time (184 days) as a mega-event. By reconstructing the root cause of the decision that led to this event, it is a question of identifying the role of this event that played on three scales: local, national and international. Expo 2010 Shanghai is part of a policy of geopolitical affirmation of China (like the Olympic Games) which wanted to show its ability to organize an event as a developing country for the events that usually held by western countries. The preparation, organization, and the influence of this event are the subject of a special study to understand the role of this event in the construction of a "world city" and a "Harmonious City" for Shanghai, in the practice of "soft power" strategy for China.Thirdly, the question of the evaluation (material and nonmaterial) of the event are considered from two points of view: Expo 2010 representations raised domestic and overseas; the influence generated by the left elements (pavilion, site, and materials) of this event on China, Shanghai city, as well as on World Expos. The final note seeks the future influence of the construction of the World Expo Museum and the experience of holding international expositions, which could be a permanent engine of China’s “soft power” strategy

ABSTRACT The purpose of this paper is to explore the current logistics situation of Shanghai and then to discuss Eclectic Paradigm (OLI model) based on the policies of China (Shanghai) Pilot Free Trade Zone as well as its location advantages. In response to the development of the global supply chain, both of international trade and logistics play important roles for many countries when they are formulating their own economic development strategies. Taiwan has experienced different periods of economic development and has now gradually formed a " Orders processed in Taiwan and manufactured in China " business model. In order to maintaining a key role in the global supply chain, Taiwan has to know the current development trend of logistics, particularly the current logistics situation of China which is so-called a global factory. The main findings of this paper can be summed up as follows: This research is concerned with logistics-based business models, such as innovative logistics solutions, international solutions and particularly Shanghai Pilot Free Trade Zone business mode. Taking China (Shanghai) Pilot Free Trade Zone as a research example, the author describes related details to help readers to figure out that China has successfully built international logistics centers by specific policies of free trade zones and their geographical advantages, such as basic raw materials, raw materials, manufacturing, finished product, after-sales maintenance, trade & event and so on.
